Teacher is very helpful. Uses power points, movies and artifacts to make history very interesting. Test are straight out of book and the reviews are very good. Lectures are 10 times better than any other history class i've taken if you know nothing about history take this class..highly recommended
Agree with first posters comments. Also, BEWARE!Regardless of your numerical grade, you wont get a "B" unless you do one paper, and you have to do 2 papers to get an "A"
Cool dude; first day of class he acts like student-beware-all good though. Powerpoints, movies, artifacts, this guy is cool. TAKE HIM. Made WWII and Vietnam a blast to learn - we watched PLATOON and had essay over. 4 Tests are 25 MC q's + essay which can be tough unless you keep up.
Definitely recommend! He is very personable and relates to the students well. His notes and lectures are simple and easy to comprehend. Not to mention, his test’s come DIRECTLY from the PowerPoint slides he posts on Blackboard. If you want an A or B in the class, you have to read a book and write an Analytical review.
really fun class. i hated history before taking his class. he makes is really interesting. he uses lots of artifacts and movies clips. gives a "review" for each exam. write 2 book reviews for an A and one for a B. if you hate history and are looking for an awesome teacher pick him. young and can relate to any student. I HIGHLY SUGGEST HIM!
Because Jason has gone above and beyond his call of duty to help, I HIGHLY recommend taking his class! He is an amazing teacher. I would take any course he teaches.
Best History class ever!
Best class I've ever had. He's brings in artifacts, tells great stories, and his lectures are easy to understand. If you didn't like history before, by the end the semester you will LOVE it.
Good teacher...you need to use his notes he provides, this is key for his class...he likes to use video alot and these come in handy for test/essays (essays are used in his summer session)Overall good teacher, obviously I am going back for History 2 with him
He is extremely helpful. I really enjoyed his class because of his awesome lectures (with all the artifacts and movies he brings--which are really good). You have a series of 4 tests (MC) and 2 papers (if you do one paper you'll get a B, if you do both you'll get an A). Overall, awesome professor.
Great teacher i loved him. He was willing to help eveyone! He is always bringing new updated movies to watch i loved the class. I actually enjoyed going to his class. He says his test are easy, but the were pretty difficult for me. You have to read the book to do good in the class. He grades the writting assignments really hard.
I looked Mr. Briseno up on this sight before I signed up for classes he had good rateings so I took him. His class was the hardest class I have ever taken. If you just want to pass with a C take his class If you want an A or B It will be a lot of hard work.I HATED his class
He was dreadful! The movies he showed in class were disgusting. He tells us 1/2 way through the semester that you would not have to write any papers if you had taken him in the summer. He is tough and you have to read the book; lectures are not that helpful. If you take him you better be willing to spend hr and hr on study and work.
The person below must have been an idiot. We had a bunch of them in our class. Teacher does what he can to help. If you come to class and do the reading it is an easy class.Briseno gives reviews and powerpoint and you actually learn something if you show up.Excellent class hands down just ask the student who actually PASSED!
History II rules with him! He brings in so much stuff its crazy. Very funny and makes class interesting. The test are 30 mc and you get a review. I hated history but came to every class..very interesting. The movies are great so are the lectures.
Good class. & great teacher. He has notes on blackboard before each class & they are very helpful. He obviously loves the subjecy & shows movies and clips. Easy class, I passed with a B but would've made an A if I'd studied more for test. He makes class very intresting and is funny and helpful. I'd take another one of his classes for sure.
I had this teacher for both History 1 and 2. Hands down the easiest classes I have taken. I only studied the test reviews and put hardly any efforts on my papers. I walked away with an A for both classes. If you show an interest in his class he will make it really easy. Lectures and Movies are interesting. Note: Movies do have a lot of bloodshed.
He's intelligent and good looking.
He keeps the class interesting, he collects WW1 memorabilia and brings it into class. Movies have a lot of blood and male nudity and tom cruise as an Irish man. Great class.
Excellent Professor, he loves to teach and loves history especially wars. His love of history helps his classes to be interesting, even if you are not interested in history. As long as you take time to fill out his pre-test reviews and read the book tests are not extremely difficult, but he definitely makes sure that you know the material.
He is a great teacher who does alot for his students. He gives you everything you need for a test and as long as you do the review and read you'll do fine. For the final i had 13 extra credit points, so take as many as you can because they will add up. He is young for a professor in my veiw. He is really nice and smart and has been everywhere.
I had Mr. Briseno for both history one and two his history two class is much easier. I would still take him for both though. He focuses more on why things happened or what caused something to happen instead of making his students memorize dates. It,s very easy to make a good grade if try.
Professor was good, but don't think the class is that easy. Yes, he makes the class fun and interesting - you will need to know the material AND papers are required to make and A or B.
He's a great teacher, hands down the most fun of my teachers this semester. If you read and go to class, print his notes, you will do just fine. I love his class.
I didn't mean to post 'poor quality, HE'S EXCELLENT!
Excellent professor. He keeps the lectures interesting and his occasional wise cracks can be pretty funny sometimes. If you do the work on the lecture objectives that he provides, you will do very well in this class.
Amazing teacher! As long as you read and do the reviews you are for sure passing every test! There was one analytical book review that was very easy as long as you follow the directions he gives you! I will be taking him for HIST 1302!!
Keep up with notes and reviews and you're good.
He's one if the best teachers I've had. He tells it like it is. Very passionate about history and so knowledgable about the things your textbook Doesn't tell you but keeps you very interested. I took both Hist 1 and 2 and wish I could take another class of his. Made A's in both classes. Not easy but worth it.
He is awesomesauce. I am taking him again for 1302. If you do the reading and reviews you will pass. If you slack because you think he is so cool, you will fail. Do you work and pay attention, as I would recommend for any course. This class is not EASY, so if you are looking for a free ride, this is not the class for you.
Loved him! Definitely a good professor!! Wish I had him for hist 1301. He's very passionate about history which is a good thing because it kept me interested! Test were pretty simple if you study and do the reviews. Also the book review wasn't too bad either!
This is the teacher you want to take!!! Go to class, take good notes (he tells you want is important for the test), do the test review and you'll be fine without reading the book. **I LOVE that he lets you re-take one test if you get a low grade!** Book Analysis was kind of confusing and it was time consuming having to read that book. He is awesome
He is passionate about history but seems to have some personal issues that make him a little volatile. It is stressful to be in his class because you don't know if you could be the target next.
This is the professor to take for your History classes. He is definitely very passionate about history. He keeps the class interested and even brings in time period memorabilia from his private collection. He is very approachable and always available when needed. I recommend him and will take him for my next class.
I liked his class earlier but the tests he gives you should get a 70 percent to pass. or else think before you stay.everything in test is not from the class handouts. Does anybody know how to study his materials?
Great Professor! I will defiantly take him again for my next history 1302.
Easy class, if you take good notes and follow thru the reviews he gives you. Don't have to use the text as much, but in order to understand the concept, you should. Lots of awesome and interesting videos that he uses to support ideas. Easy to pass if you take the time.
He is very cocky and he does not go out of his way to help.
Very good teacher interesting videos not boring actually took time to help me pass with some study tips..lectures are power points
Great teacher very interesting class hated history but loved this class...you need to show up and read the book..brings in artifacts recommended
Hard to get an A but if you only want to pass, this is the class.
Very interesting class has power point must read book but gives reviews has office hours and does try to help you pass unlike my other professors
I have withdrawn History twice before with other professors Mr Briseno helped me pass this class. The Class was interesting and i felt like i actually learned something. Highly recommended
Great professor. He makes learning history fun. There are four exams and one paper. Extra credit is offered. He provides copies of the PowerPoint presentation to help with note taking. Important to read the book. Highly recommend this professor.
Read chapter before you go to class and take notes.
Great teacher makes class interesting not easy but at least you will not fall asleep
He is the best teacher I have taken so far. He is very interactive with the class and also has a lot of details to help you pass the test. He will expect you to write a paper and he will expect you to take your test. He is there to help you, but you have to speak up. You have to go to class, take notes, and read to pass. But it is fun!
He lectures every class with the exception of test days. Only one book analytical book report, which to me was the hardest thing about the class. His degree in both history and archeology make his view on history fascinating. IF YOU NEED HELP, ASK FOR IT. He can be intimidating but just have some courage because asking is better then failing.
Lectures taught through visual, verbal, and media. Listening to the 'write these down' clues is key. Understanding the importance of history is obviously a plus. One four-page paper is required, on a historically significant book on a extensive list to choose from. Professor is fair, not egotistical, approachable, and relevant to the uninterested.
This class was tough. You better be prepared for a lot of reading and studying. His lectures are awesome, but the tests are really tough. There are 4 tests and an analytical book review. Bottom line, this is not an easy class.
Good professor, pay attention and you will pass. Would take again.
when I took his class everything made sense. He does take his test answer out of the power point and chapters. So it is important to read the book. His lectures are interesting and detailed. He also has video examples to show you that really stuck for me because I'm a visual learner. One book review be sure to take your time.
Lectures and explainations are typically very clear and easy to understand. If you keep up with assigned readings, the tests will be easy. And take good notes.
He is a good teacher who has a lot of experience to share and really cares about history. I did not read the book at all and did not study. I printed off the slides before each class and followed along with his lectures and took notes. I got an 80 on every test. I give him credit for giving detailed lectures. If you read you will get an A.
Dr. Briseno is freaking amazing!!! His lectures are funny as well as informative which for me, made class really fun. The one thing he does not tolerate are students on their phones during a movie or during lecture. Dont be this person!!! He will punish the WHOLE class for your lack of attention. So stay off your phone.
BEST History teacher I have ever had! His lectures are hilarious and interesting. If you want an A you have to read the chapters and do the reviews. Tests are always multiple choice - NO essay questions. (Take this from a person who did not know a thing of US History)
Prof. Briseno is very tough but is the best history teacher I have ever had. He really cares about history which makes it easy to learn. He does help you prepare for the tests, but the tests are not based in "who did this?" It's more of "Why was this important?" Overall, this is a great professor if you want to learn and don't mind some extra work.
Read chapters before his lecture. Take good notes of what he says and of the powerpoints. Sometimes he does not go into detail of what's gonna be on the test, but he does have funny stories. He gives a review and half of it is in the test. He also plays several videos so make sure you take really good notes of those.4 multiple choice tests & 1 test
Great class easy to follow along 4 tests 1 paper multiple choice. You must read the book to pass awesome
Briseno gives you the objectives for the test 3 days before the test and he wont help you to answer any question on the objectives if you have a question. Passionated about history. I was counting my days to finish his class.
He makes history fun, although you might get picked on for asking a "stupid" question. Easy class if you just read notes; he tries to scare you into reading the text, but that's really not necessary- you just need the notes, and to show up for class in case he shows a video. Some videos are pointless. He's also major eye candy. Would take again.
Read the textbook. Makes history interesting. Fantastic powerpoints, all available online. Funny. Brings historical artifacts to class. Spirited guy. Tells personal stories along with lectures, but they're usually interesting. Class time was long but he gives breaks halfway through.
Professor Briseno made class very interesting, engaged and he always communicated things in a clear way. His lectures are super interesting and he plays videos to help convey the lecture. He goes out of his way to help students, answers emails promptly, and is really fair with grading. I would definitely recommend taking him as a professor.
Prof. Briseno doesnt teach many classes but you can tell hes very passionate about his material and what he says. His class is lecture driven and quite not heavy but he plays many videos and makes sure you understand. If you ask him for help he will do everything he can to help you out. Great guy!
Mr. Briseno is well educated when it comes to history as he is a collector of war items. There are 4 test and 1 book review paper. He allows you to only retake one test. Mr. Briseno also offers different ways to receive extra credit. He is very understanding and helpful just make sure to read the chapter before class and take good notes.
Briseno knows a lot about archaeology & it was cool how he integrated his knowledge into the class lessons. Organized powerpoint lectures. He incorporates sociology/group psychology, which I found fascinating. We watched historical movies that tied into what we were reading about. The reading's a lot, but wingable. Many extra credit oppotunities.
Great Professor!
Pretty straightforward class and professor. Be sure to study lecture objectives and show up every class prepared to learn.
Mr. Briseno is the best! the lectures can get lengthy, but he brings in historical artifacts and makes the lectures super interesting! the videos that he shows are super cool and I wouldn't hesitate to take this class again!!!
Take. His. Class. He is so passionate about what he is talking about is a HUGE history lover. He offered REALLY cool extra credit and made the whole experience so fun. Power points can be a little dry but his commentary makes them more fun. You take 4 or so 30 question tests and 1 book report so easy and fun.
He is not an easy A, but his classes are the best. I used to hate history until I took his classes. If you want to learn and enjoy history take his classes; he is the best teacher I have taken so far in ACC
History has never been my thing. The information would go in one ear and out the other, until I took this class. Briseno has a great way of keeping your attention during his lectures, he doesn't just read off of the powerpoint. He provides awesome lecture objectives before each test, if you do them you will pass! He offers great extra credit.
He has a great collection of history artifacts to show the class. He genuinely loves history in a way that makes the class very interesting. He does not white wash history . Very clear grading policies.
Professor Briseno is the best history professor you can take! He is very passionate about history and really knows his stuff. You need to read the textbook chapters before class and use the study guide to get a good grade. He is a fun and insightful teacher and I hope to take him for History 1302.
Four tests. Thats all. No other assignments to help your grade. Tells you to just read the book and youll pass. Thats a lie. His tests are so difficult. Im typically a 4.0 student & I didnt do so well in his class. Refuses to help you, refuses to give study guide early. Puts stuff on the test unrelated to what you read. Unprofessional.
He records all his lectures so you can watch them anytime. They are very entertaining. There are four tests which are difficult if you do not complete the study guide (so big hint do it and do it early). He responds to emails within a day and even met with me for almost an hour to discuss study habits which helped a lot.
Very responsive to emails and even meet with me twice one on one to help with study habits. I wish all online professors were like this. I withdrew History last semester and got a "B" in his class and learned alot.
I took an asynchronous online class. I highly suggest watching his lectures, doing the study guides, and actually reading the textbook. The only grades are four tests, so study hard, READ the book. You can retake one test in the semester and he provides one extra credit opportunity. He holds test reviews and records them.
Good teacher and provided important feedback that helped me understanding the test expectation. He is not clear about the fact that 95% of the test content is from the Book. He provided video lectures to view but I realized test questions are directly taken from the book. The book information is authoritative to what answer is right in the tests.
The only grades are four tests, mainly from textbook. You can retake one test in the semester and he provides one extra credit paper. I feel like I learn a lot from this class and his lectures are pretty informative and he tells u in lecture what to expect on the tests. His test can be tricky with wording so make sure you understand the material.
I loved his lectures! I'm actually kind of bummed I took this as an online class because he has great lectures. This is a straightforward course, if you read, watch the lectures, and study your notes, you'll do good in class.
There's a lot to read so manage your time well. He gives away some answers during class lectures, but his lectures won't give you everything you need to know for the exam. The book will. So pick a diff prof if you hate reading. Exams are the only thing that counts toward your average, but you can get 2 points on an exam for doing the EC essay.
Lectures were very helpful. He gives you lecture objectives to help with the exam. You will need the textbook. I failed HIST 1301 last Fall and got a B in this class. He made everything easy.
One of the only online professors who actually answers emails. He is very helpful and willing to meet and help you study. Lectures are amazing.
Great professor, he is very kind and he will help if you reach out! The class consists of 4 tests that come from the textbook, I struggle with just reading and retaining information so this class was hard for me, but if you can do it I recommend this class! One retake up to 100 out of the tests, and lockdown browser is used for all of them.
Great guy
I took his online 5 week summer course and it was tough! A lot of information in a short amount of time, but it is very very interesting. If you watch the lectures and use the study guides you will do fine. He is super helpful, quick to answer emails, and definitely seems to want you to succeed.
I took this as an asynchronous course and the grade was an average of 4 tests and one extra credit opportunity. He gives recorded lectures, powerpoints, and the textbook is free. The test questions come directly from the learning objectives which are easy to find in the lecture slides. He answers emails quickly, is understanding, and is relaxed.
I am taking the 8-week course and it was very quick and easy. He has very enjoyable lectures that are already recorded and gives you objectives that are always on the test. Def. fill out those objectives as you read and watch lectures. It is very important you do that. He always communicated with his students and was very approachable.
Too many questions on the study guide for ONLY 4 tests. Those are the only grades. Expected to watch all the lectures and read word by word on the textbook. In my opinion he crammed so much into his study guides and tests.
If you have a busy schedule this is the class to take. I took his 8 week course. You only have 4 exams which was better than the 1301 course I took which had 5 exams, 4 quizzes and a paper. His is really fast at answering emails and will meet with you to help you with study techniques. The lectures are really good. You will need the textbook.
You have to read your textbook. He does give lectures that help summarize it but you seriously have to read. I didn't read as much as I should have and it messed me up. He only grades off of 4 tests, no homework, and gives you a chance to retake 1 test. He also gives you the opportunity for extra credit. Overall a great professor.
Professor Briseno wants you to succeed, he offers a lot of support and extra credit options. There were only four grades, all exams. Expect a lot of reading and studying! That's the only way to pass his class. His online lectures were fascinating and always kept my attention. The book wasn't too bad either, it was an interesting read.
took the online class, there are 4 tests +1 retake which isn't applicable to the 4th test, extra credit goes to your 2nd test grade (+8pts), personally think the prof is very knowledgeable but not the best option, lots of reading/lectures, study guide was not always reflective of the test, also test could be vague/confusing to some because of this
This class was structured amazingly! There are 4 tests; each covers around 4 chapters in the textbook. As long as you read and watch the lectures you will be good. He also provides LO's which cover almost everything on the tests. Make sure to complete them! There was an essay extra credit opportunity for 5 points on test 2.
The course is only graded by 4 tests, but don't let it scare you. If you stay focused and avoid procrastination, you'll do well. His lecture vids clearly tell you what is important (and what's not) for the test, and he provides test-prep Qs. 30 minutes-1hr/day was enough for me to be successful in his class. He gives extra credit opportunities too.
Briseno is a cool dude. The course is graded by 4 tests, so if you're okay with that then the course isn't too terrible. I took the 8-week course so it was definitely a bit more challenging, but I can imagine that the 16-week course is super chill. One thing tho is his test questions can be a bit tricky, so really slow down and read the questions.
