BEST. PROF. EVER. (literally anything and everything "best" entails in a prof) Was really sad to hear that he was only on contract@UTSC. ANYONE who gets this prof w/in ONTARIO is LUCKY. Heard he goes to Laurier/Western sometimes to teach. THE MOST ATTENTIVE prof ever, he makes himself SO AVAILABLE to his students. Teaching style =10/10
He is an absolutely fantastic professor. Makes himself so available to students so that we have the opportunity to understand everything. He explains things so clearly both in lecture and office hours. He also designed his class so that we could get easy marks to offset his challenging exams. Any who gets him as a professor in the future is lucky.
Best prof, really took the time to listen to his students' concerns regarding course materials and making sure we understood. The course got progressively harder. Exams went from super easy to super difficult. Had A LOT of in-depth application questions on the final. A fair course overall w/ an amazing prof
He explains thing in a very clear way so it's easy to understand. His exams are not easy but fair. He also hosted online office hours which were super helpful. Make sure you go to his lectures. It is required to do well and the lectures are interesting!
Jason is the best prof I have ever had. Makes class very, very interesting. 30% of your grade is just attending tutorials and doing surveys. you have to listen to lecture recordings or you wont do well. not book based. Didnt listen to recording and got 67% on the final (w/ recordings I got 86% midterm) Managed to still get 87%.
So far the best biology professor I have even been lectured by. Do not be fooled though, this is not an easy course, it is simply taught very well and very fairly. His exams cover all lecture material. Best professor I have ever seen.
Prof Jason Brown is literally the bestest prof i have had so far in utsc! He really made animal physio interesting for me because of the way he explained the content! On top of that, he's ALWAYS there to help you out!!
Probably the best Biology lecturer i have ever had. Although his exams make you think like crazy. You probably won't fall asleep unless you actually want to go to sleep. Very approachable, available and attentive. BEST LECTURER in BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES BY FARRR! Exams are not easy-.- He gives alot of extra things for free marks.
Jason Brown is an absolutely brilliant professor. I truly appreciated how willing and available he was to help out his students. I admire him for the hard work he put forth into giving his students a great quality of education. That being said, this class is definitely not a "bird course", but if you put in the effort, you can achieve a great mark.
Best professor I have ever had. Phenomenal does not begin to describe him. He is flawless in his ability to explain concepts. But most importantly, he actually cares about his students (you'll be able to tell from the course marking schemes- very flexible). His exams are NOT easy, but they ARE fair. Wish he taught more courses
Great Prof and extremely helpful. Be sure to visit his office hours if you do not understand the concept.
Great professor and all content is well explained in class. No textbooks used. Exams are very fair. Very engaging professor. Should be hired at UTSC as a full time professor.
great prof
Very willing to help, with lots of office hours and will explain everything to you although very long winded. Biochem is not easy and he makes you think.
Dr. Jason Brown is arguably one best possible professors one can have in a Biology related class as he has a tendency to break away from your typically feed and regurgitate the information on test. Rather, he has a tendency to promote questions requiring the student to expand their understanding concept taught in class in a more broader view.
He's awesome. His tests are fair.
He is the best Biology professor I've ever had. His lectures are amazing and I felt like I was watching National Geographic documentaries about animals when he's explaining stuff. He's very helpful and makes himself available for students. I wish he gets a permanent teaching position at UTSC because he's a valuable asset. He's simply the best.
prof is very enthusiastic and funny. would def take again 1010
Dr. Brown is OUTSTANDING! I don't have a strong background in biology, yet still managed to do well in the course largely due to how incredibly helpful and extremely patient he is! ALWAYS willing to help. His questions challenge you to think and apply concepts, and they're not simply a regurgitation of materials. Very engaging lecturer too!
Amazing prof. Office hours are extremely helpful. He is the best professor i have had for biology. I am lucky to have him twice. Recommended courses with him BIOC13, BIOC32, BIOD33. INCREDIBLY HELPFUL & always willing to explain topic in a way you will understand. Always do his online quizzes, very relevant to exams. exams are application based
Lectures are very interesting. Best course I've taken so far.
Such an amazing prof! Exams were fair, you definitely need to attend lectures and study thoroughly for his courses to do well. Loved animal physio with him though. His lectures are funny, tons of info, so recording it for myself was necessary. Highly recommend any course with him!
Excellent professor! No textbook, but the lectures are packed, and you'll have to know basically everything he's talking about to do well. The good news is you probably will remember what he's talking about because he focuses on less content with more practical implications; a refreshing change from most biology lectures. Miles ahead of other profs
Very good lecturer. Held numerous office hours (virtual + physical) before exams which are very helpful.
Very thorough explanation of all course content and easy to understand. Fair exams with a variety of questions to pick from to answer/ explain on exams. Great group projects to help improve grade as well. Should become a full-time University of Toronto professor. Best Biology professor I have had in my entire undergraduate education at UTSC.
Mr. Brown is one of, if not the best biology prof at UTSC, grading extremely fair, makes lectures super interesting and provides as many opportunities for students to ask questions whether it is virtual or in person. Totally recommend students to take courses that he teaches!
Amazing! Super clear lectures. He cares about his students a lot so go to his office hours - guaranteed better grades because he explains things amazingly.
Amazing prof! Go to office - hours, it makes a huge difference when compared to those who don't. One of the few profs who holds numerous office hours so do use them. Lectures are clear-cut, he is able to explain the concepts that other profs have failed to do. He truly is amazing, even if it's an elective, take his course! You won't regret it!
Prof Brown is the best prof at UTSC! I love how he explains the concepts so clearly. I have taken 3 classes (biob34, biod33 and bioc32) with him and I loved all of them! I highly recommend taking a course with him!
Highly engaging and enthusiastic lecturer. Delivers with exceptional clarity. Spends far more energy than any sane person would on trying to help students. Makes exams very difficult and thought-provoking, but practically gives away 30% of the course mark FOR FREE via tutorials. One of the best professors at UTSC.
Amazing Prof ever!! Great explanation of content. Made me fall in love with Human Physiology
Unless you're really passionate about the material, and make use of office hours, you won't do well in his exams. He pretty much gives 30% free in tutorials, but the exams are extremely discouraging. Cumulative final. MAINLY "application" questions, which are just testing subjective thinking. Very few "basic" questions which test on lectures slides
Honestly the best prof I have had till now (am in third year neurosci). He makes every concept crystal clear. The exams however make you think and apply whatever you have learned- that is why he is the best! He knows memorizing isn't going to do any good, but rather understanding the material and being able to apply it will.
awesome lectures, you learn a lot. but exams are really hard. its mostly applicaion
I was going to take C34 for credit, after I received my 1st term test mark, I decide to make it NCR, all tests are hard for me (a lot of ppl on fb said the course is not that hard). You have to take detailed notes for the lecture and understand the material. All questions based on understanding instead of simple memorizing. Assignment part is okay.
Great prof, passionate about what he teaches and makes you apply what you have learned. Although his exams are fair, be prepared to think critically.
Really informative and enthusiastic lectures. The tests require you to think which I loved as well.
Jason Brown is the best prof at UTSC. He made the physics behind animal locomotion very easy to understand. AlWAYS goes out of his way to help students. I love him.
10/10 prof material his purpose in life is to teach amazing at his job hell make you love any course you take with him also has a great sense of humour wouldn't mind spending a friday night with him hes pretty laid back
Best dude ever and really compassionate too.
Jason Brown is an awesome prof who explains concepts really well. He always sticks to the main points and makes the topic easy to understand. You are guaranteed 30% for the tutorials. Plus, they are pretty fun to do. For his tests, as long as your answer is clear and concise he gives you perfect for it.
Test is so hard that it will wreck ur brain to the point you have to check ur pulse to see if u're still alive(classic jokes). Make sure to watch discovery channels, read lots of random physiological articles on wikipedia and u will pass with a flying colour! What he teaches is A, whats on the test 'what's the origin of the universe?'. OH Lordy.
The G.O.A.T in teaching Biological Sciences, enough said.
Take BIOB34 during the summer, much easier writing short answers than his extremely difficult multiple choice!!!!!
Highly recommend to do his optional quizzes the week he posts it and ask him any questions you didn't understand in his office hours! He's very approachable. His exams are application based so be prepared not to memorize content but rather to understand the material. Loved going to his lectures cause he doesn't bore you! Good luck!
Okay, very smart guy. Very crystal clear prof. he knows what he is saying but his exams HOLY DEAR LORD. Okay I heard he is easier during the summer because of SA questions I had him during the fall and he gives very hard MC exams. I have no idea how to study for his exams i did everything from mind maps to emailing him. read research papers GL
I LOVED HIM, I just wish I had gotten lucky with exams, marking etc. Man things are unfair sometimes. Jason Brown, we'll meet again and I'll prove I'm good in the course you're teaching , someday ....
Jason Brown was by far my favourite and most impressionable professor at UTSC! He taught the material so well and there was never a dull moment in his class. His exams were all application therefore, making it difficult. However, he taught the material so well that applying it wasn't that difficult. More professors should be like him.
The tests are very application based rather than simply rote memorization. Expect a lot of questions where an experiment is outlined, and you need to predict results for example. This can make the tests more difficult than memorization based courses, but he offers a large amount of free marks elsewhere to make up for it.
The GOAT. really get to know the concepts. His exams arent ur usual bio questions like the rest of the b level courses. ALL CONCEPTUAL. Try connecting 1 theory to many other theories. i almost failed the first midterm, but once u know how to answer his questions, u can def. get 90 for the final. Never give up.
you can tell he's very passionate about what he teaches during his lectures. he makes the material very interesting. his exams are ALL application, connecting theories so you really have to understand the material. theres 2 term tests and a final, I failed both term tests and still passed with a 3.0, once you get the hang of it, you can ace exams
A truly compassionate professor who makes sure his students understand the material and will casually throw in jokes to make sure the class is entertaining and this is truly rare to see in UTSC. He ensures he is always available through office hours + emails, though the material may be difficult-- with him as a professor, you can't really complain
The best university professor I've ever had! He is seriously passionate about what he teaches and actually wants to make sure that you understand and apply what you're learning. Exams are hard since most profs don't use his kind of applied question style, but attending office hours is very helpful in understanding how to approach questions!
Very interesting lectures, gets to the root of the subject instead of just telling you what's in the textbook.
Okay so Brown is actually a very amazing professor he explain things clearly and is very passionate. He also does give some easy marks with tutorials however his exams are super hard, don't bother memorizing. His questions have a lot to do with research that connects to the concepts in his lecs. Do the quizzes each week (super helpful).
This guy is a legend. He might have one of the hardest exams you'll ever take but at the same time all I can say is I have never learned more about what is applicable to real life than I have in this course. The absolute best way to put it is he will open your mind and cause your mind to make a connection between everything you have ever learned.
Jason is one of the best profs at UTSC. However his exams are the worst. It's all application based (which isn't the problem). His questions require a lot of outside information that he thinks is 'common knowledge'. So if you don't have that knowledge from outside of class it makes it difficult to make the connection to answer the question.
Amazing lecturer, however, impossible exams that are very hard. The answer key is based on his thoughts, he assumes we think like him to answer the questions. His questions are application based, dont bother memorize whats on the slides. Dont take this course if you dont need it.
Great professor. But not if you want a 4.0. Like everyone else said, application questions are his thing. He makes it relatively easy to score between 50-70% but he makes that last 30% very difficult to attain. Aim for 100% in the tutorial quizzes and assignments.
His exams are tough. However, it is possible to earn an A: Try your best to get perfect on the krogh and knuttorials. Don't study the textbook at all. Rather, go to the lectures and type out/write down everything he says. Literally everything. Record the lectures if you have too. Don't memorize everything, rather, UNDERSTAND everything.
He is a spectacular Professor. I can't really say much about his teaching style or his assistance in helping students pass the course or any other sort of consultation. However, his test are a bit extreme and he really wants you to think analytically and outside the box in order to pass his test. Do his quizzes and attend his lectures
All the test questions are applications; u need to DEEPLY understand the concepts taught and decide which one applies in each of his questions. He would give you a paragraph-long question discussing the highlights of a research and ask u "why" they observed what they observed or to what concepts it's related or do u even expect it? AMAZING THINKING
Jason Brown is by far the best professor I have had at UTSC. He makes sure you understand a concept good enough to APPLY in real life. 100% of his exams are application questions. He's very giving in terms of grade; he always gives u more questions than he will mark; leaving you a choice to choose what questions to answer. You'll learn to THINK.
His tests and exams are out of this world despite his amazing lectures. You need to pay attention in class to truly understand the concepts that he outlines.
Cons Writing one of Dr. Brown's exams is like taking a can opener to an F-22 mid-air jet fight. Pros He could give a lecture on rocks and you'll still be engaged in his class. He teaches you to apply the material in real-world situations like no other prof. He makes sure that you can make up the marks you lost on exam thru tutorials.
Jason Brown has provided the most fruitful learning experience i've ever had. Tbh I went into the course all scared and that it was going to really be extremely hard, because of what everyone says, but if you ask me, if you're really interested in the subject it becomes so fun and his exams are acc not that hard if you do all his practice questions
Brown is an amazing prof. Most knowledgable and passionate prof at UTSC. He makes lectures interesting and uses real life examples. Not an easy class but if you put the time and effort you will be happy. Attend lectures and do practice questions. Exams will make you think outside the box making you become a critical thinker.
Jason Brown is the best bio professor you will ever have! He explains things so well, he'll send u detailed email responses if you are confused on anything. But the trade-off for such a good prof is that his exams are CHALLENGING. Just make sure you go in with solid info on the MAIN ideas being taught. Don't memorize! Understand the concepts!
Best prof I have ever had. You can tell right away that he cares about biology and he explains concepts very clearly! Only issue is that his slides are only pictures so you have to make sure that you attend lectures/listen to recordings. His tests can be tough but do the practice and study main concepts and you should be fine. worth it anyways.
His exams are hard enough that they might as well be written in german, but he is one of those professors you will remeber after you have graduated. He truly cares about you as a person and is the most dedicated professor I have had.
JASON BROWN is by far one of the best bio profs at UTSC. Don't be scared by people's reviews. Yes his exams are very challenging, but if you are looking to learn critical skills like application instead of rote memorization then this is the course for you. It will 100% help you gain a deeper appreciation for biology. Good luck!
This professor is the best I've seen in the university. He inspires and gives you a way better idea in any area he touches. He will spend plenty of time explaining the concepts that you didn't understand - very approachable. I used to come home, call my friends and share some ideas from his lectures. Exams are tough and interesting.
Great professor but his tests are unrealistically difficult... He expects you to think like him
Really great professor and interesting lectures. You will soon learn the answers to all the wonders you ever had in your life regarding physiology however, his exams are extremely challenging and are ALL application questions. Do his practice quizzes
He made concepts easy and clear to understand. He is approachable and helpful. He just not stand there and go over boring concepts, he actually applies concepts in real world situations and makes it interesting to learn about. This means you must go to class. Exams are found difficult because it is application based, but he weighs things fairly.
This man is the GOAT. He is clearly very learned and speaks with few yet complex words. It can be an information overload during lectures,so you really have to ask him questions and talk to him, he is very approachable. For those who have done IB, his exam questions are like that. No clear grading criteria, you just gotta know your stuff consisely.
Dr. Brown has been my absolute favorite teacher throughout my time here. He is a phenomenal lecturer and is so passionate about what he teaches. I've taken 3 courses with him, and if I had the opportunity I would take another one of his classes in a heartbeat. Do not be fooled though, his classes are NOT easy and his exams require real effort.
I understand why people are saying his exams are difficult and he expects you to think like him, but the truth is he's an engaging lecturer and hopes students can apply the concepts and examples explained in his lec that are often not on the slide. Theres a reason why he takes time to explain, I actually understand the material.
Jason Brown is an amazing lecturer! I could easily sit through his entire lectures entertained without nodding off. But be warned, his exams are lethal. They are only m/c which seems easy enough, however none of them are based off memorization. You better know the concepts and truly understand them (which is doable so long as you listen in lecture)
His exams are difficult and heavily application based, so you need to study and understand the content in order to do well. That being said, he is one of my favorite biology professors. His lectures are easy to understand because he's so good at teaching. He's super understanding (gave us extensions for projects)during these times. Best prof ever
Dr. Brown is an incredible professor. His teaching style is amazing, keeping you on the hook to know more about what he is teaching about. His tests and exams are all application based and difficult, but they definitely make up for the way he lectures as he is passionate about the material, and they are the best. Be up to date with the work though.
Professor Brown is a really nice professor and very understanding but his class is actually really difficult. The class is an INTRO to physiology and he just goes really deep. If you are actually interested in physiology or have some knowledge in Bio, you should be good, but if you don't this class is a little difficult. Online makes it easier tho.
He's obv knows what he's talking about and a good lecturer. His exams are difficult but he lets you make up for the marks in the assignments as those are easy. One thing which annoys me is that since the lectures of online, he talks sm and the videos are much longer than they're supposed to be. He keeps adding on extra 20-45 min which is unfair.
He is a great prof and explains topics in details. But for these online classes since there is no textbook you have to make your notes from the lectures. A 1hr lecture could take 3-4 hrs to complete when doing the notes bc there's sm details. The midterm and exam should be fine as long as you do the practice quiz. Lectures were very tiring.
He is an awesome prof. He explains concepts extremely well and his tests are fair. I had him two times so far. He uses studies and papers to help us explain concepts.
Lectures are great, professor is extremely kind, accommodating and easy to approach. Practice quiz is very identical to final exam. Exams are collaborative (& pretty challenging). Have a chance to resubmit failed assignments or allot its weightage to the final exam if missed. 2 midterms, best counts as 25% and worst is 10%. Great course overall!
Great professor but his exams are so hard and application based. You must understand the material inside and out. He makes up for the hard exams but giving you very easy assignments and he allows students to work together during the exams but do not let that trick you because this class is definitely not a bird class. He is very caring.
SUCH AN INCREDIBLE PROF. We all know that metabolism and all the pathways are so detailed and dry but man, Dr. Brown makes sure to explain not only the 'what' but the 'WHY' and his lectures are the best. Exams are all heavy and critical thinking so you really have to study and know your stuff but he makes learning it so fun!
Dr. Brown is my FAVE prof at UTSC! I love him so much!! He trule cares for his students and is hilarious! One of the best lecturers I've seen at UTSC. Very engaging lectures. Exams are difficult however, so make sure to study hard!
His lectures are good but his exams (midterms and term test included) will kill you. they are HARD don't think for a instance u will do good. JUST don't. I would avoid his class. Sorry, i hate his exam style you gotta make connections from the broadest topic to super detailed info he might have said. ITS SUCKS!!
I can say this is the hardest but nicest prof i have met during my 4 years university. familiar with the lecture notes will only guarentee you 70+ you need to do the optional quizzes, need to be good at critical thinking , need to do research after class. he can give 15 minutes speech in just one slide of powerpoint. need to be a good notetaker.
Prof. Brown is probably one of the best lecturers I have ever had, he connects almost every one of his points back to a study and really breaks down concepts for ease of understanding. But notetaking is a must, take note of everything he says because he will likely refer back to those points in his questions.
(1) GOAT!! Got my first 4.0 in uni! Enjoy the material rather than memorize it and you will understand it much better. His questions are kinda tricky, he puts research findings which you have to relate to the course material. Will give u a finding and ask if u are surprised or not from what u learnt in the course. Tt takes some time to understand..
Definitely do his optional quizzes cause they are very similar to how he actually tests. His assignments will save your grade. He made us discord to collab on the test which helped you look at each question with different perspective. Learn to apply the knowledge in real life. Thats the only way youll enjoy & do good in. Students got help w/B33 too
His exams will be hard only if you are the type who memorizes without understanding. If you understand the material, you will most definitely do well. And even if you get a question wrong, you can justify yourself and he will listen. All the bad reviews are probably the ones who do rote memorization which will not take you far in later years anyway
Honestly was scared taking this course after reading reviews, but don't worry!! His lectures really make you think outside the box but they are engaging and enjoyable. I don't even like physiology but he made this course super fun though I wish we had live lectures (they were vids). Exam q's really make you think so do those practice quizzes weekly
Prof Brown is really great but his class is so hard. You get to work together as a class on the tests but don't let that fool you, these were the hardest tests I've ever taken. Lectures are interesting but everything is application based so don't bother trying to memorize anything. Go to office hours and he will explain everything you need him too.
He is legit the besttt professor I have ever had. He makes his lectures really engaging and very easy to understand especially if you pay attention and make sure to watch and review the lectures thoroughly. BUTTT his exams AREEEE HARDDD even though he let's you work through them with others....but its still possible to get a 4.0
Dr. Brown's lectures are engaging and he always takes the time to answer students' questions. His exams are challenging, but fair, as they are collaborative and open-book. He ensures that students develop a thorough understanding of course concepts rather than encouraging memorization of the material.
Not a fan of the exam style, as a student who has trouble staying focused the collaborative exams were a nightmare. People also did not contribute to the discord server so I was pretty much on my own. There is no info on the slides, focus on the examples and you'll do fine. The concept of critical thinking is fine but the execution was poor.
He explains and walks through concepts/examples so well - one of the few amazing profs in the bio dep! His tests are always a challenge (short answer), yet that has not stopped me from taking 3 of his courses and doing well! Requires deep understanding, not just memorization, but the challenge and actual learning that he facilitates is the best
Great lectures and you'll learn a lot from him, however, exams are tough and need you to think very critically and sometimes you may get the wrong answer just because of not having a logic similar to his.
The TAs in this course is nothing short of egotistical so expect your assignments to be marked very harshly or having to redo them more than 2 times. The exams and midterms are literally not even based on the lectures, rather it is on empirical research articles. So mainly, you don't even need to study but just search up the article's results.
One of the best lecturers at UTSC! Lectures require lots of attention and understanding the concepts and how they work is extremely important for good grades. The podcasts are guaranteed free marks so focus on doing better on each successive exam. The exams do require a lot of critical thinking and reasoning so practise a lot with the quizzes.
Dr. Brown's BIOB34 class is interesting and easy to pay attention to. The assignments are simple and easy to get 100%. The hard thing is the exams. The questions are thinking questions and you need to think outside the box to get answers. But, he did give us a discord chat for students to discuss answers. He gave fewer questions and plenty of time
One of UTSC's hidden gems, prof. Brown is one of my favourite professors!! His courses are structured in a way that promote the students to do well, and his lectures are great. when he sees the audience losing interest or not paying attention, he says something random and funny and hooks everyone back in. definitely recommend him!
Very confusing, requires students to know about experiments results that were done long time ago, and very unfair grading!
Fantastic course with amazing lectures! The lectures tie into the BIOB34 material but develops it by looking at cool physiological controls! Labs are really fun and pretty straightforward. Lab assignments are basically free marks. SAQ term quizzes and final were fair. As always, his questions require critical thinking. Do the practise quizzes!
One of the best BIO profs at UTSC! Amazing lectures which teach us how to interpret physiological findings. Make sure you get started on short communications 1 early cuz its free marks. DO NOT LEAVE TILL LAST MINUTE! Actively engage with the practise quizzes and aim for a conceptual understanding of concepts. Exams are all application MCQ. STUDY!
Amazing lectures! you HAVE to study for the tests which are the hardest. SC1 was free marks but takes a lot of time
Genuinely enjoyed his style of teaching and assessing . I don't think I've ever enjoyed a project like I enjoyed the jeopardy assignment. And the exam qs really had us apply knowledge. Was online bc covid, but I wish I would've waited and took it in person now . If you're even alittle bit interested in physiology, take this, you'll have fun .
Be ready to do all of the work for your short coms if u get a bad group and then take a gamble on the exams because the collaboration makes you second guess yourself even if u know the content well. I would rather take a more concise in person exam (can easily still be application-based) as opposed to an overly ambiguous online exam.
his group projects are either "100% or 0%" and you're given feedback to resubmit the group projects to get that 100% as long as u follow the feedback given. there's flexibility with term tests and he weighs them differently based on your performance. the final exam was the hardest exam ive ever written and dropped my grade, but term tests were fair
Great professor! Definitely recommend.
Best prof at UofT. I love him so much that he's ruined all other professors for me
Amazing Professor, He is my favourite professor at UTSC, always there when you need him and very good at explaining concepts. His questions are challenging but as long as you take good notes and connect topics together then you should be fine.
Very thought provoking and very caring professor! In all of the courses I have taken, I have not learned remotely as much as I did in his class. He also is very generous in helping you improve performance as the semester goes on. Overall a stellar lecturer and one of the best at UTSC!
I love Jason Brown period. that is ALL that matters, one of the best professors and if not he is THE GREATEST PROFESSOR EVER THE ABSOLUTE GOAT!!! A KING!! he understands everything he provides opportunities for you to succeed at every moment, take this course, study hard, and ask questions you will do incredible because he has your back!!!
Jason Brown is an incredible professor! His lectures are engaging, practical, and thought-provoking. He holds high standards but gives constructive feedback that helps us grow. Despite being a tough grader, he's always approachable, understanding, and truly cares about his students. We absolutely love him!
Professor Brown is the best professor I have ever had at UTSC. He genuinely cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He explains concepts clearly and is always available for whatever questions or concerns you may have. If you take detailed notes and do the practice quizzes you will do well.
One of my favorite profs. explains very well given the content is hard. Short communication assignments were long and tedious but they were completion marks so you can get that complete 40% of your final. The other 60% is 2 midterms and a final. Prof. Brown is caring and is willing to accommodates and changes Hummod settings for short com.
Dr. Brown is my favourite professor at UTSC. He genuinely cares about his students' success and listens to their concerns. As someone who has taken all his courses, I recommend taking at least one of his courses.
BIOB34 with Prof. Brown is a challenging yet rewarding course. The exams require critical thinking, but the collaborative format and access to resources like the course Discord make it manageable. Staying engaged in class and utilizing tools like Unstuck study can really help with exam prep.
his exams are really challenging.
Really cool professor. Unlike other lab courses that are just theory, he makes you actually think and apply concepts to the real world. Super active on class Discord chat. Easy to attain 100s on lab assignments. But term quizzes and final...all short answer, all critical thinking. Don't memorize, just grind through practice questions.
A caring and friendly professor. Although some exam questions can be a bit tricky, The majority of the tests' questions were not horrible. certainly recommend to go to his office hours and ask questions so you can get familiarized with his way of thinking
- He is very chill and approachable - doesn't have a rubric for his biweekly quizzes - doesn't give much feedback when he gives back the grades - expects you to know things and wants you to explain stuff even if it wasn't mentioned in class - labs are easy and fun Make sure to check practice quizzes and attend his office hours to ask questions
attend his office hours and try to understand his thought process when answering questions. keep up with the material!! if u know ur stuff, u will know how to answer the questions. do ALL the practice quizzes. the questions can be tricky but if you put in the work u will do well.
This course lacks a textbook, learning objectives, and written materials, making it hard to study effectively. Nuanced concepts are tested in quizzes but not taught in lecture, leading to confusion. The structure emphasizes self-teaching over instruction, creating major barriers to learning and academic success.
His content is difficult, but he had short communication assignments (40% of your final grade) but it was for completion, so 100% here. If you get somewhere around 70% on all the midterms and finals (these are worth 60%), you'll land somewhere around an A- to and A. Overall, do well on short and do decent on testing. Kind and understanding Prof!
one of the best profs at utsc. makes learning so engaging and fun. tests arent easy, but manageable if you study well. he actually cares about his students
Dr. Brown is literally one of the very few amazing profs at UTSC. His lectures are clear, engaging, he takes the extra time to explain hard concepts. All of this exams are hard, you won't be able to solve them online with AI, but he allows for notes consultations and the exams are reflective of lec content. He doesn't assign any readings.
Jason Brown is so goated. His grading scheme is super clear from the get-go. He's very approachable and accommodating. His labs for this course are interesting and fun; they will always leave you wanting to learn more. All lab reports are an easy 100. When prepping for his quizzes, ALWAYS PRACTICE with his optional quizzes!
ridiculous quizzes
The one course I looked forward to all week! Each lecture feel more like a story thats explained with enough context to have an in depth understanding of the concepts. I have never forced myself to use logic and reasoning to critically analyze question until I took a course with Jason.
goattttttt
AMAZING PROF. LITERALLY INSPIRATIONAL!! Every class is a story, and I cannot get enough of it.
5 isnt a high enough rating
Although the quizzes/exam were the most difficult part of the course, the professor is amazing. You can tell he clearly cares for his students and he also does a great job at teaching the information in his lectures. I actually looked forward to attending his classes and his lectures were not only very well taught but he is also very humorous!
live laugh love Jason Brown
The best prof I've had so far. His lectures are fun and he actually helps you understand the material. He's really approachable and not intimidating to talk to like some other profs xD. The tests are hard, but they really build your critical thinking skills. This was my first A+ at UTSC, so his teaching clearly works. U DA BEST JASON BROWN
Greatest prof ive ever had
Prof Brown is an amazing lecturer but his exams are no joke. I love this man but some of his questions have me a stroke
His lectures are engaging and hilarious, and I genuinely did learn a lot from them. However, I do not think that his assessments allow me to demonstrate my learning. You need to think in the same way the prof does to do well on his quizzes, and unfortunately I don't think the same way as Jason Brown. The travel vid was the only thing that saved me.
Amazing prof. he clearly loves teaching his stuff and explains really well. exams and quizzes are tough.
His quizzes and tests can be subjective and hard to succeed in.
