First couple of classes I wasn't very impressed, but it ended up to be a really good class. Passionate about families and good social scientist. Very easy exams. Two papers that aren't too bad. You just need to start on them early.

A teacher who understands students at their level, and cares about them on a personal level. I took his class at night and thought it would be hard to have a night class, but he kept my attention the whole time. His class is work, but you learn so much. Amazing teacher!

He is an amazing professor. He is passionate about his lectures, and relaxed about his exams. If you attend and keep up on readings, exams are easy. Papers really aren't hard. One paper might require planning ahead.

Dr. Carroll is my favorite teacher in the MFHD department (and I'm graduating!) I heard wonders prior to the class, and he was even better than that!! Just go to class and do the readings and you'll get an A.

The material covered in this class is EXTREMELY basic. You have to write 2 papers which will require some preparation (start at least a few days in advance). Tests are rediculously easy. Take this class for an easy "A".

At first, I was a little weary about this course. It seemed boring and repetitive. However, after a couple weeks Dr. Carroll became one of my favorite professors in this department. He is an amazing teacher who conveys the subject well. If you read and go to class, you'll do great!

Great teacher. Every class was educational and enjoyable. Tests were easy and only one paper was assigned. Only other assignments were attendance and whether or not you read the chapter before coming to class. Not only was this an easy class, but it's actually important stuff you'll apply to your life forever.

Best class I have taken at BYU. It is challenging with the research paper, but he doesn't give tests which helps out. It is so interesting a class I think everyone should take!

This class was amazing! He is very passionate about the material. He tries to get to know everyone personally and will answer any questions you have. He's a funny guy and he teaches well. An amazing teacher! He captures the essence of a 100 level class—stimulating and educational without being ridiculously difficult. Only one paper and two tests that cover exactly what we go over in class. I would recommend this class with this professor to anyone.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Thought provoking lectures, interesting readings, no tests. Two large papers but sections were due throughout the semester. He was very clear on what he was looking for in the papers. I loved this class. I was really sad when the semester was over. You will grow as a student but in a comfortable and fun way.

Clear, organized, and passionate about the subject matter. Listens to students, genuinely interested in them. Curves his tests quite nicely. Uses the book but goes mainly from class discussions on test. Good teach!

Very caring professor and really knows what he's talking about. Not a terribly hard class. Grade yourself on reading and attendance, three papers, and a midterm and a final. As long as you understand the concepts and put a bit of effort in, you'll be fine. Highly recommend this class, even if you aren't planning on getting married right away!

Second class i've taken from him. Do your readings and listen in class and you will get an A. He is a leading researcher in the field and several of the reports you study he was a part of. I loved going to class and even went to discuss class topics outside of class and talked to him as more of a counselor/mentor. A great guy and a great class!

He is very thought-provoking and kind. I LOVED the lectures. There was a lot of reading, but I still got an A on the tests without reading them. You grade yourself on reading and attendance, so it's based on integrity. Great class.

This is one of the best classes I've taken from BYU, and Dr. Carroll is amazing! He has some very insightful things to teach, and he keeps you interested the whole time. The class is easy, but you learn so much. This was the one class I was really sad to leave on the last day.

Dr. Carroll is dynamite. Absolutely a dynamite teacher. Easy but engaging class. I learned a lot without feeling unneeded pressure over tests. Easy A but better yet, awesome class.

This class was extremely enlightening! I loved learning from a teacher who is so obviously invested in what he is teaching. The papers are fairly graded and the tests are easy (as long as your study). He is helpful and willing to answer even the most "awkward" of questions with a sincere desire to instruct you.

I'm not getting married anytime soon but learned SO much about myself and gained amazing insights to what marriage is like. The papers and tests are SO easy and i felt the spirit very often. This professor changed my life!!!!! He is my favorite professor and what I learned from him was incredible. I also gained a greater understanding of the gospel and a greater love for our prophets. Grading procedures and tests are straight-forward and fair. I highly recommend this class, no matter what your current dating status.

I loved Dr. Carroll. Although SFL 223 doesn't count for religion or GE credits, he really brings the spirit to the subject. He is an amazing professor and you really learn a lot from him. I would HIGHLY recommend taking marriage prep from him because you learn so much about marriage as the world sees it, and as we see it in the Gospel.

This was the best class! Seriously, everybody who has the chance to take the class should! You learn so much, and he teaches with such enthusiasm. He helps you find ways to talk about the things that you might have not been able to talk about before. You learn so much, and think about yourself and life in new ways.

This class literally changed my life. I think about the principles I learned all the time. I took it when I wasn't dating any one or anything and I'm so grateful I did because I learned SO much about relationships. A beautiful class! Everyone should take it. Great class great Professor. Basically teaches you how to handle and future marriage issues. Class should be made mandatory for all BYU student. Sit back and soak up the teachings like a sponge.

Dr. Carroll teaches in such a clear manner, and perfectly balances gospel teachings with research findings. Lectures are enjoyable, and learning the "secular" parts of marriage prep along with the spiritual was invaluable. It is a three credit class, so do expect to write 3 eight page papers, and have a midterm and final exam.

I never wanted to miss class! I was totally enthralled during every class period. The only assignments are 3 eight-page papers and 2 tests. His tests are straightforward and helpful. He assigns a lot of reading (which is actually quite valuable), but you can get by without doing it. Do the reading, though, because it will help your life! Worth it

I took Eternal Families/Marriage Prep and it was the BEST. Everything you learn you will use in your life and he has amazing insight. Especially for topics that are harder to discuss. He will having you laughing one minute and feeling the spirit so strongly the next. Easy papers that reflect on your life. I still pull out my notes from time to time

Dr. Carroll was a great teacher. Very funny and made class fun. Clear grading, was always willing to work with you on assignments if you need it. Daily quizzes about readings and attendance. Pretty basic assignments, nothing too hard.

Dr. Carroll is so awesome! His lectures are so informational, and he really encourages open discussion in class about tough subjects. He always welcomes questions in class, and even says we can contact him with questions after the semester is done, because he is just that passionate about helping us in our lives.

Dr. Carroll requires two big papers in addition to two midterms and a final exam. Exams are easy if do not overthink them! Attendance is not mandatory, but his classes are dense in material and high in quality, so make sure to attend. There are lots of required readings from Conference talks and the textbook. Very willing to meet with students.

Professor Carroll is amazing! He really knows his stuff and his lectures are entertaining and the material is applicable to your life. There's only two papers, two exams, and daily quizzes so if you just keep up on your work and pay attention in class it can be an easy A.

Dr. Carroll is so full of the spirit! There are two papers that are fairly easy and a midterm and final. Everything you need to know is on the study guide! If questions arise you can ask the TAs. There are also daily reading quizzes. Super easy! Each one is four questions and not timed. I highly recommend Dr. Carroll!!

IF you are to take this class, take it from him. Pretty sure he was the one to design the course as it is relatively new. I learned much more than I thought I would. The readings are a lot but they are interesting. I highly recommend this class and this teacher. Pretty life changing stuff.

Interesting, applicable material and amazing metaphors. I still use what I learned in daily life. His tests, papers, and assignments were all reasonable. Although you need to be familiar with some specific principles, the tests were pretty intuitive if you went to class, and he doesn't expect students to cite his own lectures in the two papers.

All the good things are true. He's awesome! He explains things moderately and truthfully. His lectures are so entertaining my spouse came every class. He's a real gem and BYU.

Not only did I think he was charismatic and interesting, but his lectures always brought the Spirit and helped me to learn so much about marriage/dating, with great supporting evidence from prophetic teachings. Professor Carroll is really important; I wish everybody at BYU could take his course. He's incredibly intelligent and lectures with purpose. The class is a religious and academic credit and, though this makes the class more difficult, I loved how he blended the two together. His perspective is blunt and refreshing.

Dr. Carroll is THE BEST! He cares, inspires, is knowledgeable/passionate about his subject, and well prepared. Everyone should take SFL200 from HIM to improve their life/relationships. Nothing matters more. He invites comments and articulately/kindly/wisely shares undiluted doctrine. As an older student I know he teaches TRUTH greatly needed today.

His class was really easy mostly, although the TAs sometimes graded the papers harshly. He takes 30 minutes to say what could be said in 7 minutes- but other than that, the material is interesting and he presents it well. The tests are based on class learning.

Dr. Carroll is a great teacher in general. He likes to discuss things so you can lead him astray with comments so he usually doesn't finish the lecture, but he posts his slides.

Dr. Carroll is a great professor. I grew so much spiritually from this class, I felt that I understood church doctrine instead of church culture. The tests aren't too bad but there are a lot of true/false questions which I don't love, but other than that he is great. I would take a class from him again!

Dr. C is very passionate about what he teaches, which makes class more engaging. Some papers are LONG (start early!) and TAs are harsh graders. I had to petition my grade on one, and Dr. C reviewed it and gave me a better grade. Fascinating material, and pretty easy tests as long as you attend class. You can grow both spiritually and intellectually

This was a great class, but a lot of work. 2 tests, 2 seven page papers, 2 other reports (pretty easy), and TONS of reading every class. Dr. Carroll is very passionate about this subject which made lectures engaging, but he sometimes wouldn't finish the material. Still, gained many new perspectives on the gospel and would take his classes again!

Jason Carroll is my hero. I can't even tell you how much this class changed my life for the better. I loved it SO much. There is a lot of reading each class, otherwise just two papers, one midterm and a final, and a few other small assignments. You need to do the reading and go to class to get a good grade, but it's so worth it bc you learn so much

I left every class feeling inspired. Dr. Carroll is amazing. You do have to try to get an A, but it's not too hard. I learned so much in this class. Take it from him if you can! The only problem I ever had was he has a hard time sticking to his lecture schedule because he just has so much to share.

The lectures are a bit long winded, and I unfortunately couldn't pay attention because of how long the class was, just because it was a bit boring. I missed quite frequently and still got an A.

The lectures are informative, but the class can feel a bit repetitive. Attendance and readings are both graded, so be sure to stay engaged. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep - definitely worth checking out alongside the textbook.

I love this professor, his class is pretty easy overall. There are two 10 page papers, and you have to get two textbooks and read them quite a bit. But there are no final or midterm. Super chill, he loves his students, very informative. I would take his classes again.

I loved my Marriage Prep class from Dr. Carroll. The papers weren't too bad especially given that the rest of the class has very little homework. This class is a serious must-take for both married and single people.
