I am only a few weeks into this class and so far he is extremely knowledgeable and organized. The class is simple and take some work though if you put any real thought into it at all is an easy class to succeed in. Only problem I have sometimes is deciding between listening to the fascinating stories or taking notes, sometime it gets hard!
I loved his class! Jason is so laid back & is willing to help clarify anything, all you need to do is ask. He's so approachable & very knowledgeable about his subject. His class is one of the few that I'll truly miss.
awesome teacher. If you have a chance to take any class with him, do it. He wants people to enjoy his classes, and he works very hard to make sure that they do. You will definitely learn from him.
I liked the teacher better than the class. The class was ok but I ended up feeling like it was the gospel according to Bart, the author of the textbook.
I have recommended this class to so many of my friends. Gave me a new perspective of life in general. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. The professor is so personable and keeps you intrigued the entire class. Do Not miss out on this professor, or the class.
Jason is an awesome laid back professor. His professional non biased approach to all the content that he teaches makes perfect sense. His classes follow a standard University format where he logically evaluates all the content that he teaches. Basically he knows hella cool stuff about his classes
I loved his class! Jason is great!

Extremely great teacher! I recommend him to anyone. Entertaining and educational. After his class, you'll want to have him as your teacher for all possible classes.
Great teacher who loves what he is teaching. Class is enjoyable. There are quizzes and papers. You have to show up to class and you have to read the text. I went into the class not caring about humanities, but you learn so much that it becomes interesting. Highly recommended.
awesome teacher! really gets people interested, good lectures
If you are simply wanting to learn the facts this is NOT the place for you. He takes a philosophical approach, which is not for everyone. I felt that he, as well as everyone in the class was searching for answers. Decent guy, but very tiresome. He expects a POSITIVE spin on any religion you report on, you cannot be neutral in this class.
He's a pretty laid back teacher. He's helpful if you need him. His class is all lecture and notes for the most part though.I suggest that if you have a short attention span, do not take this class. The books can be difficult to read and if you miss class once, you're screwed on notes.
Jason is awesome! If you want a broad understanding of world religions...he is the professor to get. Only homework is a couple weekly readings and a blog post. There is a midterm and final essay as well as a short research paper...but it is worth it. Plus, he is a really nice guy and keeps the class up-beat.
I was a little skeptical in the beginning (because I am not religious) but this ended up being one of my favorite classes. Now I am thinking about getting a minor in Religion. Jason is a great instructor, is really he helpful, knowledgeable, interesting, and funny. I got an A. I am now in another of his classes. I recommend him.
took world religion with him at flc, extremely helpful, nice guy, upbeat.
Jason is a really nice guy. His class seemed more like the gospel according to Bart or Jason. He says he tries not to persuade his students in his beliefs, but it's so obvious when he lectures that it's "the only way." That got frustrating. Otherwise really nice guy and very straightforward!
Jason is a cool guy. He always gives both sides of everything and gives everyone the chance to share their opinions during the discussion periods. I'd like to take more classes from him.
I thought Jason was an okay teacher. I don't like that he censors student?s comments. This is a college class; we should be able to express our opinion. I thought his tests were average, not that difficult. If you give an average effort you will get an A in the class. I got an A and didn't try hard. Overall, World Religions was an okay class.
Jason is one of the best professors I?ve ever had. I?ve taken a few courses from him and would like to take more. He has a deep and thoughtful approach and understanding to life and the subjects he teaches. He sees the world with his heart and an open mind and loves when students ask questions and present their own ideas. He?s very passionate about
I love this guy. He explains things clearly and as unbiased as he can. He presents the facts and lets you make up your choice about what to belive. He doesnt try to prove other religions wrong, but tries to open our eyes to different concepts we may not have known before concerning holy scriptures and the history behind them
Great personality & is really interesting to listen to, he keeps you engaged the entire class period - which is hard to find in the 3 hour night classes. He's a really nice guy & is very unbiased / neutral when discussing different religions. Class is pretty easy, assignments are clear, I think it'd be hard to do poorly in his class. TAKE HIM!
Yes he is interesting...but he is very unclear when he lectures. He goes in circles and repeats himself. He doesn't care if you attend class or not. This class was a waste of time and boring as heck. I read reviews about him being a good teacher..that was really wrong.
He is a kind, nice and funny teacher. We had 1 page reading journal every week and one 6 to 8 pages research paper and 2 exams. It might sound hard, but not much! I learned a lot.
Very funny guy, very personable and honest. A great advisor and friend. He keeps everything interesting and has some awesome methods in regards to how the class is run. Amazing professor!
Nice guy. Jokes around a lot. Very helpful if you ask. Open, honest, and neutral. Can appear annoyed when he's not. TALKS A LOT. When the lecture is good, it's GOOD. If you're not into the subject matter, he'll probably bore you. Midterm and final essay style in blue book. Weekly vocab quiz. Weekly 1 pg assignment due. Weekly group discussions.
Overall really nice guy. Was obviously passionate about the subject but was able to keep his views separate to provide an unbiased overview of religions. I would take him again.
He is just awesome, will stay and talk to you on a personal level. He is the best prof ever. Chill dude. Weakly journals were fun and got you thinking. Really likes to hear your opinion
Jason File is a horrible teacher. He forces his beliefs on his students and puts you down if you have any belief in God. He also uses profanity as well as inappropriate references in class If you are religious at all, do not take him. He requires you to read an atheist book called "The God Delusion" which tries to persuade you to not believe in God
the only way this instructor would get a bad review is if one is closed minded about all religions outside of christianity. He is informative and open minded while still careful not to insult. If someone is pig headed his smart mouth is quick to speak with intelligent and FACTUAL evidence which is not only informative but entertaining. take him.
World Religions. He makes very funny yet semi-blasphemous jokes. He is very non-judgmental and has a fairly positive outlook on every religion. While super entertaining, he has a voice that is so calm (but not monotonous) that he always makes me sleepy. Midterm: write everything you know about one religion. Final: research paper.
He is an awesome teacher!
Awesome teacher! Totally open minded about everything in history and religions, always open to your input and discussions. This guy opened my eyes to a whole new outlook on History. Be sure to take at least one of his classes.
SPECTACULAR Teacher. Totally cool to talk too, and sparks great convos about theology. He is relaxed and pretty much lets everyone express their opinion regardless of how time consuming it is. Honestly one of the best teachers I've every had the plesure of being taught by.
As a returning older student taking necessary prerequisites for nursing, I took Prof. File's World Religion class for my humanities requirement. Jason is a wonderful, engaging teacher. I looked forward to attending his class. You will develop a healthy respect for all religions and learn so much in the process. Enjoyed your class Jason!
Great instructor for the Asian Humanities class! There's two quizzes and a take home final about what we learned. The quizzes were opennotes, but we had to really remember the details of the books: Tao Te Ching and the Ramayana. Each week, we had to turn in a weekly 1-2 page report. Each week had a lecture and a movie (mostly documentary).Got an A.
Great professor. Has positives to say on every religion and keeps the work load manageable. Midterm is spew everything fact you can on 1 eastern/western religion. Final is compare contrast that eastern/western religion. There's also a research paper. Not too bad. Took him over summer and was glad I did.
I took Jason File's Hebrew Bible class and have to say that he is a very great instructor. He has his own views on what he teaches and lets you know about them, but accepts your opinions and doesn't say "you're wrong." A lot of research but it was fun. Good class, good professor.
Impressive teacher!!! I definately recomend taking this class.
Amazing professor!! Simple grading style where success in the class is easy for those who engage in the material. In summer there was a midterm and final on east and west religions in essay form and a research paper. Journals due every week and easy if you do it. I couldn't recommend this Prof enough! You will enjoy this class! take him now!
Great class...I now love the subject of Humanities thanks to Jason! He needs to come teach more classes in Truckee!
Take Professor File...he is engaging and the class is so interesting. He is very passionate about what he teaches and it courageous. One of the best classes I have taken at Sierra!
Jason is a passionate professor who keeps it very real. He has a lot of insight and obviously enjoys his job. Study hard, show up, and you should receive an A without any trouble. He was extremely inspiring and was very helpful.
Jason File is an amazing teacher. I had him for my very first class at sierra (was a summer class) and even though i was nervous he made things extremely enjoyable. As others noted, he is extremely passionate about the humanities and gives great insight into it. Even though religion is a major component, he approaches is very well and fairly
Professor File is super cool. Able to talk about religions without putting you to sleep. If you do decide to sleep, "at least sit in the back" (-J. File). Weekly journals about a page long, plus a final research paper and that's about it.
He's a great teacher, quizzes are simply and easy, just study for them! He is super chill and likes to joke around a lot.
Easiest class ever and great professor. He literally sometimes gives you the answer to the quizzes thats how easy the quizzes are. Only thing that sucked was just typing up that 6-8 page research paper which took a long time to finish. Other than that amazing professor such an easy class.
Professor File is hands down one of the best professors, if not the best, that I've ever had. Super willing to help students, very open minded and knowledgable. Overall a really good human being. Love him.
Pretty easy. the reading quizzes are a huge part of your grade so make sure to at least spend about an hour the night before. There's one 6 page paper due at the end and that's about it.
One of my favorite teachers by far. Super cool guy. Really interesting lectures. There is real effort required for a good grade.
Jason is incredible. You will leave feeling enlightened, and inspired to be the best human you can be. I couldn't recommend him enough- he has a huge heart, a huge brain, humility and happiness.
Great guy with a real passion for teaching, Had 10 quizzes and 1 paper. Studying for quizzes is required but nothing he gives study guides to make it fair and clear. Funny and well respected, highly recommend.
Jason was a fantastic professor, very understanding and upfront with his expectations. He doesn't give you any homework really besides the formal paper (which is assigned the first day of class, so you have plenty of time to work on it), your entire grade consists of 10 quizzes, the paper, and a final. He's a fantastic professor, highly recommended
I can see why Professor File has a good rating, hes laid back, not many tests. However I personally find him to be off putting. The power points are not very good. He takes up a lot of lecture time talking about current events. Definitely read the book if you want more factual content. The lectures were a tad boring for me. Don't be late too class
Great, funny guy who actually makes a morning class bearable. Take quizzes once a week on info from the book, gives study guides for them. Assigns one research paper with a short presentation (laid back) and the final is a 3 pager about our thoughts of the course. Great class and would definitely recommend taking professor File, he's awesome.
This class was a really well put together. There is reading you have to do, a reasearch paper, journals and a final paper. His lectures are easy to follow, but can rabbit trail at times. I would take another class that he teaches.
He makes the quizzes very fair and gives specific requirements for the research paper. Getting an A wasn't too difficult. If you miss any quizzes you can make them up and he's very relaxed during lecture. Class was fun, but he had no problem mocking students which I found off-putting. Overall he was a good teacher.
Great professor. Gives great insight to the historical and artistic aspects of humanities. 10 quizzes during the course. make flashcards of the terms and study them and you'll get A's on all of them. Big research paper due at end of the course. do research early or you'll get a D on it like me. Definitely recommend for this class.
Loved Professor File. One of the best professors I've taken at Sierra, would definitely take him again. He has a great sense of humor and makes paying attention in class super easy. He also genuinely cares about his students. Would deeefffffinitely recommend him to anyone, even non-Humanities majors such as myself. Seriously, great class to take.
I love Jason. He is easily the best teacher I've had at Sierra. I took him for World Religions. His tactful approach to teaching one of the oldest and nowadays controversial subjects is commendable. It's a bonus that he's legitimately a good guy and obviously cares about his students. Interesting class. Thanks Jason!
I loved Jason's World Religions class! As long as you study, and ask for help if you need it, you'll do fine! Take this class with Jason. Awesome teacher who is super smart and leads good discussions.
This class is pretty much an easy A. Do well on the quizzes and term paper. He is a cool person but his lectures are not aligned with what is on the quiz. His lectures are practically useless- just do the quiz study guides he posts.
Literally one of my favorite teachers. The work load can easily be broken up. You really just have to study hard for the major test. He makes class fun and looks at all religions from and unbiased standpoint which is honestly the best quality you could ask for in this course. Probably the only enjoyable class where I learned A LOT of useful materia
The class is easy and Jason is a cool guy. There are quizzes most weeks which are pretty easy to study for, just make flashcard from the list of words he gives. There is one research paper and Jason is a somewhat hard grader, but it's not too bad if you're enthusiastic and knowledgeable about your topic. The final is just writing what you learned.
Lectures have NOTHING to do with the weekly quizzes. Just do the study guides for the quizzes and you'll be good. You might as well show up to class with a book or laptop bc his lectures are bogus, but he does take attendance. Great Guy tho. ':D
Great teacher! I have never taken Jason before but I was very impressed with his intelligence! Easy quizzes every week, one presentation on research paper, does take attendance everyday, final research paper(take seriously.) also final paper on review of class! Great/ funny guy
Jason was very unorganized, we were supposed to do "presentations" but ran out of time each day (all that studying for not being graded on). During the time sensitive tests he would do roll call. The final was literally a take home paper for what you learned in the class, I wasted lots of paper in this class during his lectures that were useless.
Best professor iv'e had. If you're taking this class as an easy A GE then this is the wrong class for you. The midterm and research paper require sooo much time to prepare for and although getting an A isn't too tough, he makes you work for it. He's very inspirational and will challenge the way you think. Book is only needed to study for midterm.
I loved this class!! Wish all the rest of the classes could be like this one. Be prepared to read and do some serious research for your term papers. This class will make you question your religious views but will also give you a different perspective. Jason is laid back and very approachable who will do all he can to help you just have to ask.
If you like never knowing what your grade is, being preached at about random biased political discussions not associated with the lectures, being put down for expressing your own views, and being graded based on how much he liked you, then this is the class for you! Be prepared to show up to class to hear him talk about random nonsense.
I took all the quizzes by studying the terms on the study guide which were on studyblue. Didn't have to read the chapters in the textbook. Make sure to pay attention to location of the images. Final paper is easy. Have many sources to cite and you should be fine. His lectures are great and I was genuinely interested when I was awake.
Super chill dude, really laid back and ready to connect with students. His Humanities 10 class was kind of a joke though, you don't have to try to pass. There is a lot of textbook reading but you can just look at the study guides and pass since most of them are like "what is this picture of?" The final paper is the only tough part but its take home
Jason only pays attention to the students he likes so if you want any face time with him, get on his good side otherwise expect to be ignored and marginalized. His lectures are sloppy and don't align with the assignments and quizzes. He told us that our final would be based on our notes but that wasn't at all true. $98.00 textbook was pointless.
A very good professor. Super nice, likes to joke around, keeps class interesting. His lectures are usually history based while the textbook studies are more for the artifacts for said period. His quizzes are easy to study for as long as you give yourself more than a day. He offers extra credit through canvas discussion which are interesting and fun
Really heavy weekly reading and homework assignments. Be prepared to watch hours of documentaries every week. Not a bad professor, just a lot of what seemed like useless busy work.
Jason took over my class when the previous professor left, and while it was clear he didn't know some material, he did a good job of teaching the rest of the semester. I would take one of the classes that he normally teaches, as he seems to know quite a bit about his own subjects. He's kind of a funny guy, and doesn't shy away from much.
He explains every topic in detail and takes the time to answer any questions that students have. The main "difficult" things you'll have to worry about is a difficult in class essay midterm and a 7+ page research paper, but if you put time into both you'll do good. There are weekly reading assignments that you must write about. Great lectures!
A lot of reading and homework. Excellent teacher uses many platforms to make sure you understand the weekly topic. A lot of documentaries, reading and writing. If you do the work and put in the time youll pass.
Pretty laid back and funny but also a bit unorganized (didn't really go by the schedule or seem to know what day we were taking quizzes). A little too much emphasis on religion in a secular class IMO (he read from the bible a few times). Really good about excusing you from class if you have to worry about something else though.
World Religions taught by Jason File changed my whole outlook on life, really. I grew up in this bubble barely exposed to anything and he really challenges your views and makes you see things you didn't before. This class is not for those who are sensitive to liberal ideas and those who are close-minded. I would take this class over and over again
By far one of the best classes I've taken and incredibly genuine. The beginning of the class is mainly lectures while he covers different religions but he is engaging and captivating. Later in the semester the structure of the class is more open which allows time for more conversations. This class has changed my perspective on people and life.
Jason will make you enjoy class and learning about religion. He really is educated on all aspects of religion and gives everybody chances to ask questions (and makes you want to). I think about things he says even after class. Great guy!
One of my all time favorite teachers. He obviously really cares about this subject and helping you learn about it. Every lecture was interesting and he really enjoys when students participate in lectures. Not a difficult class. Just make sure you take good notes in the first half of the class and study for the midterm. Everything else is cake.
The class was interesting, and the professor really goes in depth with his lectures, the only thing is that you need to do really well on the Mid-term or you may see a dramatic grade change. Take really good notes, I barely used the book it wasn't as helpful but good to jog your memory before the midterm after that it really isn't useful anymore.
mostly 3 hour videos and 5 min quizzes w/10 questions. Only problem was that he NEVER had the access to assignments or discussions on time. I emailed every week for him to add URLs, open discussion forums, and even replace youtube videos that were no longer available. As a person who works and goes full-time, frusterating to not have the full week
Pretty awesome, super funny. Cares about his students and doesn't like to do things like everyone else. Good to talk to, quizzes are easy if you read and study. Discussions online are easy. you can show up and not say much. He's alright to talk to out of class and reach. Good prof.
Just turned in my last paper for Humanities, and Im sad that the class is over. Im glad I chose that class over a sculpture class, because so much was learned about how previous eras really laid the foundations down for life as we know it today. People were so advanced in various ages, and weve just built upon the amazing foundations they laid.
Great teache,r really enjoyed the class.
By far one of the most amazing teachers on the campus. He is extremely wise and his lectures are filled with information without leaving you drowning in boredom. He is likeable with great accessibility and simply just a down to earth guy. If you show up and do the work it is an easy A. Super chill class
I took two classes with Jason- he's one of the best professors I've had. Though he does have lectures almost every class, they are easy to listen to and learn from due to clear and helpful visuals. He is a compelling teacher, and meets students halfway in order to ensure their success. Not too hard, anyone could get an A with some effort.
OK Teacher, promotes discussions.
This professors is good at what he does even though he goes off on random things when lecturing. He works with you in some point or another! Just study for quizzes because that's most of your grade.
This guy literally gives so much course work every single week. You have discussion boards along with multiple quizzes and a paper due every single week. He thinks you have all the time in the world to work solely on this class. Do not take this class with him if you don't have to. You'll spend hours every day just to get by.
Great professor, would recommend. It's a class that is exactly what you make of it. If you want to learn, you'll enjoy the class. If you want to just get by, you could do that too. Required reading actual books, not a bland text book. Weekly discussions. Good lectures. Multiple quizzes. Just do what he says, which isn't too hard, for a good grade.
Hum 001 Online, there is at least 5 assignments a week. As long as you do the HW you will pass but it is a lot of time consuming assignments every week, including 3-4 page papers. You have to watch long documentaries then take a quiz on them. The discussion boards you have reply to 5 other students. Not ideal when you're full time student.
Never have I ever done so much work for a class before. Claims to understand it's just a GE course but then makes you do like 5 separate assignments every week. Teach yourself kind of class. Make sure to read books and watch documentaries for quizzes. Says 6 page but actually wants more pages research paper at end of semester.
This guy convinced me to change majors, that's how passionate he is. He loves what he does and you can tell. Infinitely smart and very respectful of the cultures he discusses. You won't find another professor quite like Jason. I can't think of one thing to complain about. Take his class, you'll love it.
Overall mythology was a very interesting class. If you are thinking of taking this online don't. When we switched to online because of covid, prof File for the most part stopped teaching and the class become very boring with mindless work. Another thing I didn't like was the book reports. You get 4 in total and the books took me forever to read.
This was Professor File's second time ever teaching HUM 15 so it was very under-developed as a class. The class was graded by quizzes, 4 book reports, discussion boards and a final term paper. He grades only on completion for every assignment (besides quizzes) even the final term paper and book report essays. Easy A but didn't really learn much.
Jason is super awesome! He took over a completely different class after my professor had to leave and then we went online for COVID he handled it so well and was so helpful and understanding. Ive now take 3 of his classes, hes incredible
Hes the best professor Ive had at Sierra. Jason is extremely kind, intelligent and the information you absorb in this class will help you throughout life.
Jason is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He gives incredible, thought provoking lectures. all the reading material was fascinating, class is super easy, much of the grade was attendance. Super understanding, really neat guy. 10/10
Just a real chill teacher, no surprises in the class. Flexible, and interesting class.
I took Prof. File's class during the fall 2020 semester. Our weeks were broken up into 4 assignments a week, a discussion board, a quiz, and two credit/no credit papers. Mr. File was the only one of my teachers to grant me an extension during COVID. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to help them succeed. He was quick to answer emails.
Prof. File's teaching style is very loose, and his class is set up for credit/no credit. (If you meet the minimum requirements, you get an A.) He gives out a weekly quiz on information discussed that week, and he does not provide feedback on papers. I would not recommend this class if you like structured learning and professionalism in a class.
Class was really interesting if you are trying to learn about religions. There was a lot of writing assignments but he grades on completion not on vocabulary or grammar. Take his class. He is an amazingly kind professor who will teach you!
Professor File is great! I enjoyed taking is HUM0001 class a lot. There are a few readings and lots of videos to watch, but they are all super interesting. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this class or not but the way he organized it and grades made it really doable and enjoyable. I highly recommend to take his class if you need this for GE!
Jason is quite honestly my favorite professor I have had so far. Mythology was an interesting class going into it, but Jason made it even more fun to learn about with his zoom lectures/discussions. Easy grader and all work is pass or fail. In other words, type it up, turn it in, and you will get and A. This class was worth it.
I took the 8 wk accelerated course, and if you don't have great time management I wouldn't take this professor. Assignments weren't hard but very time confusing (each video about an hour long). Gives 5 min per quiz to answer 10 questions, so you have to know everything beforehand (he gives study guide each time). No extra credit. Recommend pdf book
Professor File makes you think this is an easy course but the quizzes will kill your grade. Youre expected to watch roughly 3 hours of documentaries, then take a quiz on the material about random obscure facts, itll be 10 questions in 7 minutes or less, not even a minute per question, and he wont regrade for spelling errors.
I took an in person class of Professor File's. It was very interesting concepts but was treated like an online class as we did nothing but get on off topic tangents pertaining to nothing we were learning about and then having to do heavy amounts of homework. Quizzes were hard online and were given no time. Grades on attendance.
This class is heavy on listening and writing, but the assignments are all credit/no credit and you will pass as long as you submit a paper relevant to the prompt. The lectures were really interesting. Five replies to discussion boards was kind of much, but Professor File really cares about this class and has passion. Take if interested!!
File is great, this semester all assignments were graded on completion. Interesting lectures and discussion posts. You will watch a few episodes on Netflix (w his link). Easy A if you do all the work!
Gave homework over spring break. 2-3 papers a week, 2 quizzes, discussions boards. 5min for the quiz and trick questions when you have no time to even read the questions. Lots of videos and papers for a 3 credit course. He's a pretty easy grader BUT just too much homework.
It's clear that he's never taught an online class before. The class consists of reading or watching something, then writing an essay on it. Very lazy teaching, none of the material we read or watch is his. I haven't learned anything in this class and my interest in the subject has gone out the window due to the amount of endless busy work.
This class is a lot of work, but it is all super interesting. The work consists of weekly papers ( full credit if completed), essays, discussion boards (you must respond to 4 peers; confusing), quizzes (gives you like 7 min for a 20 question quiz, expects you to know without having to think about it), and documentaries ( 3-4 hours a week).
File hands out loads of hw, each week consists of assigning 2 1-2 hour videos with a quiz, reading over 10 pages to write 500+ word summaries, and Discussion Boards requiring 5 total responses including your own. It's not difficult work, it just sucks how time consuming it is. If you're lazy like me, take a different professor
in a regular semester, you have at least 6 hours of wrk per week, if you are taking this during the summer it is 12 hours. the wrkload is the biggest I have seen w/ generally 2 papers (300-900 words/1-3 pages) and a quiz. included w/ the hw are large readings and several hours of documentaries. don't take w/ a full load or wrk, find anyone else.
I liked Jason File's class, although the assignments were time-consuming as long as you completed and turned them in you got full credit which is worth it for the amount of work assigned. It was a lot of reading and watching videos but if you stay on top of it you'll get an easy A, plus he has all the assignments open so you can get ahead!
Took as a summer class and it was a ton of work every day, but it wasn't hard work. You watch some documentaries or read passages and take a quiz or write a paper on it which is based on completion so if you do it you'll get full points. Everything we learned was interesting and if you spend time completing the assignments you'll pass.
File's classes are always so interesting. Hum15 was a lot of fun and although what seemed like a lot of assignments (each week has about 4 assignments, mostly videos with write-ups) they're all relatively easy as you get credit for completion. He does require 4 books to read throughout the semester with a reflection that was credit or no credit.
Professor File was amazing! I can't say enough good things about him. He cares for his students and when t comes to HW he gives students 100% as long as they reach the requirements. Highly suggest taking him for Humanities classes.
Super easy class, but very interesting. Got through the whole class without reading most of the material given, maybe a few pages here and there, and then the Exodus and Genesis for the "midterm".
I wouldn't recommend taking Prof File just because of the workload. I took his class online and while the homework was easy it took numerous hours each week to do, there were roughly 4 assignments per week and each took a LEAST 2 hours a piece. My anatomy class was less time-consuming.
Be sure to read the syllabus carefully as everything you need to succeed in the class will be in there (watch for the discussions). Overall Jason was very insightful with assignments but had little empathy for personal issues and did not care for other opinions. I took an 8 week course and expect 8 assignments per week, two being quizzes (No final)
assigns too much homework for a class that people are taking for credit only. unrealistic standards that make it impossible not to utilize that AI tools he talks down on so frequently. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Jason was one of the most wise people I've ever learned from. He was super interesting to listen to during lectures, and I genuinely learned a lot from him. There was a lot of homework because it was an 8-week class, though he didn't grade the homework very rough: most assignments were credit or no credit. Super fun class to be a part of overall.
For the 8-week summer course expect 7-8 assignments per week, roughly 2 hours and up to 4 hours per assignment, which include credit/no credit papers and quizzes. 3 mandatory books each w/ papers. Heavy time commitment but does not grade harshly.
I took his humanities class during the summer online and loved him! There are many assignments for each week but they are all due at the end of the week, and if you don't finish them you can ask for an extension. There is a lot of reading and papers so give yourself plenty of time. Other than that he is super cool and easy going!
I'm mid-semester in Humanities 1 online, and Prof. File is awesome! There does seem to be a TON of assignments compared to other 3 unit courses & 5 discussion posts/week, but the material is so interesting. As long as you read the material & follow the clear instructions, you will do great! I would definitely take another class of his again.
Prof File's class was an interesting but heavy workload. The assignments were time-consuming, but graded generously. I found Unstuck ai and the free textbook helpful for staying on top of it.
He started tenure recently and made it known. He said he doesn't care for our class; it is a throw-away class. I noticed in every class that he didn't care. He barely did any teaching in the class; I felt like every time I walked out of the class, I learned absolutely nothing. A ton of HW with no in-class teaching.
Professor File is honestly one of the most wise and interesting professors I've had. It is true that there is quite a bit of homework, but it is a hybrid course so that is understandable. His lectures are interesting and engaging. To be honest, the only reason I got a C is because I was lazy: an A is very obtainable.
Jason was one of my favorite professors ever. He made World Religions come alive. So mellow and interesting.
Married a student, just saying
Professor File was everything you would hope for in a summer course professor. While the course was condensed to 8 weeks, it was totally manageable. He was understanding and gracious as needed throughout the semester. Gave me a few extensions, and his grades were extremely fair. 10/10 would take from him again.
very very good down to earth professor who loves to talk to the class, get their opinions and have respectful conversations about whatever the class wants to talk about. Great teaching style and a great class to take if you like human history and religion, made the class very interesting and definitely worth taking. A+++
Loved this guy. I changed my major due to his world religions class. I am biased though because I love humanities so reading and doing the work was easy for me.
Professor File was an amazingly dedicated teacher who truly cares for his students and for the subject he teaches in.
Easy class. No final for end of class. No book needed. Discussion board replies must be spread across the week. Recommend prof and easy grader
