He is a very fair teacher. Always wants you to understand, and will take timeout to make sure you do understand. He gives out 3-4 projects during the semester, which are tough but at the same time they prepare you for the real world. I would recommend taking this course from him.
He makes the tests easier than the hwk he gave us. he is pretty nice but the way he teaches is kinda weird too deep i think
Very good teacher. Explained everything very well and was very helpful. Fair teacher. One of those teachers that wants you to succeed and learn the subject. Will give you individual help if struggling with the subject. As long as you did the HW and paid attention you were guarenteed to pass.
Horrible teacher, blammed entire class for overall low grade rate. six students attended on average. students fault my hiney
Very good teacher. In depth explanations that help students to understand the concept of the problems rather than just memorizing a formula and not understanding how it really works.
Took 5b and 6. Drops lowest test score, including final (didn't take final in either class, both A's). Mandatory homework, but very willing to help. Sometimes does not understand questions in class, be clear on what you mean. Tendency to run class long.
He's an extremely helpful, good teacher. He gives you all the opportunity to improve, and all time to do so. If you go to class, and do your homework, the class is piece of cake, and he'll make sure to help you.
Great teacher! I took two classes with him and both of them were a lot easier because of the way he taught them. Dropped the lowest test grade including the final. So if you are happy with your grade before the final you don't have to take it. Do all the homework it will help with your overall grade. Do take him if you have the chance.
Hard Teacher. Black and white gives no credit for attendance. But if you don't attend you'll be lost. I had surgury and had to take my exam on medication. Studied hard for final exam stuff that was on the study guide was not on test. Stuff that needed to study was not on study guide. Was 2 point from a C gave me a D! :-(

Very clear. Makes sure you understand the material. He's easy to talk to unlike most math professors, and I'd say he's the best I ever had.
Decent teacher. Willing to help. The textbook used is really terrible though.
He is a horrible teacher. Never on time, very unhelpful and unorganized, assigns ridiculous amounts of homework and has horrible communication skills. Jason tends to lie as well so save every email. The man needs to be FIRED!
Pretty good teacher and clear. It's a calculus class so you can't expect a teacher to be easy unless you want to fail all your next math courses. Available when you need him just need to put in the time.
This online class was not too hard at all. The only thing you should do is study very hard and do all required exercises. This class was interesting. The teacher was clear, helpful and fair. I would recommend this class to anyone. It's easy to blame a teacher, blame yourself if you fail the class.
If you struggle at all with math I suggest you find another professor. He goes very fast and allows only 5 minutes for homework questions (and there is a ton of homework). He recommends using his office hours, but he's often late or doesn't show up at all. Can be very condescending if you don't understand something.
You'll get through the class if you pay attention and do the homework, but he's not the greatest at really explaining things or clearly answering questions
There is A LOT of homework assigned. If you pay 100% attention in class and ask questions on anything youre not clear on, youll do good in the class. The lectures are fast paced. He responds to emails quickly. He cares about students who care.
There was a lot of homework, one offline that needs to be turned in once a week and online homework that was everyday. If you get stuck with him, I suggest creating study groups and talk with those around you about the offline homework. He also had half calc. half no clac. per test. Gardner was hard to understand at times and can be harsh.
Wow one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He really should not be teaching higher level mathematics. He makes mistakes frequently during his lectures. mixed with his horrible handwriting and frequent errors, youre doomed. Also condescending when he thinks the class should know something and its obvious we are struggling. I hate this teacher
When in doubt, read "rate my professor" and do not pick gardner. My teacher was you tube university.
"I should say..." He is a competent teacher, but does make errors while writing that can confuse. I did not find him to be very approachable. DO NOT fall behind on the ton of homework you will have. The online does a good job of teaching you.
Overall a good teacher. He assigns an online homework for every class, and an offline once a week. His tests are reasonable, and he gives out study guides that are basically harder versions of the tests. Do beware that some of his solutions to the study guides do not match up to the actual guide. Other than that, "I should say--"
His lectures were excellent, but he did some unexpected things. Testing was allowed for only the first half of the period, and calculators were not allowed for half the test. I found his grading criteria for tests unfair and questionable. Many of his emails would not get delivered, so communication was difficult.
It seems like the guy knows his stuff but he just can't impart the knowledge clearly to the class. His tests are difficult, and he isn't very helpful outside of class; it's difficult to rely on him etc. Always show up to class, finish your hw, use the tutorial center. Or just take anyone else. Not recommended.
Jason Gardner was extremely confusing for integration... If you want constant mistakes, tons of homework(on/off-line), hard tests, and and overall condescending manner... well, this is what you'll get! Stay away!!! look at how many are registered compared to other instructors!
His lectures go in circles and he makes frequent mistakes. Half of my class didn't even bother to take notes, because he's so hard to follow. He seems like he knows what he's talking about, but he isn't good at relaying it to the class. I taught myself the entire class from the textbook, which luckily is very clear. Take Renwick instead-he's great.
Ok, I don't even know. I didn't do bad in his class, but I found myself having to learn from my notes, friends, and prior knowledge. I've taken this course before and only took it again to review, but he still confused me at times. The final is optional and will replace your lowest grade. I don't suggest you take his class if you are dependent.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. Do not take this guy's class.
Oh, the struggle is real with this teacher. Errors are made on the daily. Highly not advised if you're not an independent learner, but if you are lucky enough to take him, be prepared to head to the tutorial center a lot!
Honestly, your grade is totally up to you. If you put in the effort, he will guide you every step of the way, but if you're use to taking easy teachers that the reviews on ratemyprofessors recommends then he is not for you. College is not for you if you can't put in the effort. You think you'll get easy teachers all the way up to your B.A?
He does have some trouble relaying information clearly, but if you just ask for clarification on HW in his office hours then you won't have trouble. People point out that he makes mistakes, but he really only writes the wrong letter or number occasionally...he's only human, we all make stupid mistakes.
Pacing was slow for me. If you have a question he will answer it though. Lots of online resources available if you are willing to access them.
great teacher
He's great, take him. I'm taking him again for math 5a. Optional final, study guides, and generally easy tests expect for test number 2. Watch out for that one.
good guy take him, don't buy textbook, just buy mymathlab
He's not horrible but he's not great. I did well in the class but sometimes struggled to understand what he was saying. I had to get a lot of help from the tutorial center. He explains things well and shows a lot of steps but often makes mistakes which can be confusing. Also he is really bad about updating grades correctly and promptly.
Very helpful teacher who really knows a lot about what he's teaching. That makes the class a lot more interesting and as long as you pay attention and go to class, you should be fine. He does a lot to make sure you get the help you need to succeed. Will be taking classes from him again in the future.
I passed but i really didn't try all the hard. Just don't do what i did and stay ahead of everything since day one
Really one of the best math instructors I have ever had. He explained things so they were really easy to understand, Helpful and available both inside and outside class. In fact, if you do you homework and go to class, he is actually pretty easy. I would recommend him to everyone. Optional final exam helped.
Could at least try to teach the class. He would make at least 5 errors in each lecture and just explained how to fix, extremely confusing. Tried to get help, but he was either extremely late or did not show to office hours. I had to go to the other Math 7 teachers for help, they were very clear and helpful. Should have waited.
Good Instructor.
He assigns a bunch of homework questions that he never showed us how to solve in class. I wouldn't take him again for that reason alone.
If you take notes and pay attention you will for sure pass the class. Straight forward tests and homework (no surprise hard questions), helps you with questions after class step-by-step, and gives a video for his practice tests online which show you how to do each problem. He's also kind of cute and really charming.
Awesome teacher, not only handome but very clear in how he teaches. Love how he breaks EVERYthing down! I always looked forward to going to his class. I also always got great feedback. He's a very knowledgable math professor! I would take his classes again. Thank you Mr. Gardner!!
Professor Gardner was probably the most helpful teacher I've ever had. He is willing to stay after class to help students as well as have office hour and online office hour opportunities. Study guides are very helpful for tests. He is genuinely passionate about teaching and helping his students succeed.
I really enjoyed Mr. Gardeners class. I'd take him again for future math classes.
Easygoing, likeable, but sloppy mistakes--gets dates wrong, mixes up terms, doesn't watch clock. Illegible handwriting was a big problem. Budgets time poorly. Will work one on one to help students succeed, still tough class. For those sitting in front to decipher tiny untidy scrawl, instructor's tight hipster trousers were slightly distracting.
His lectures are very long and detailed so it was very easy to keep up. He gives a lot of examples and if someone is not getting it he is more than willing to help. Personally I thought he went a little too slowly and I quickly got bored but I rather have a teacher teach too slowly than too fast. There is homework due every class period though.
Honestly the material is not that hard to understand. However, Gardner loses track of time he arrives late to class and lets us out late. It takes a week to cover one topic and the textbook for the class is custom made by him. There is some unnecessary work like a project for this class. Overall he is an okay professor and he helps out.
I'm surprised by the previous ratings as this has been one of my favorite classes by far. I've yet to see an instructor as passionate about math. Sure the lectures are long but they're very detailed and thorough. I never have to study except before exams. The course is really well structured and it's obvious work has been put into it over the years
Great teacher, follows great teaching techniques, and very helpful if help is wanted
Awesome Professor, he just makes sense! He has a logical explaination for any calculus problem & he writes out EVERY step. I hardly ever feel lost in his class. I like how organized and chronologic his lectures are. study guides with video solutions sent to ur student email, optional final, a calculator for exams, hw problems from the book
Took him for 5A &(now) 5B; wanted same structure. Agree: improve handwriting: g's lookin' like s. Lets us out late: 10 minutes avg. PAY ATTENTION DURING LECTURES! DON'T SKIMP ON HW! Clear cut when explaining, but tends to write too fast. Tests difficult, but he is there to help. Make friends in class for future study groups. Strength in numbers!
His lectures were extremely long. The problems he did in class seemed straight forward and much easier, until you got to the homework. He assigns so much homework! It's ridiculous. He always went over class by 5-10 minutes and expected students to sit there. If his tests were like class lectures, there would be no issue. Never again taking Gardner.
His class is very organized and he explains everything step by step
I will never take this teacher again. There were few times that this teacher was actually on time and class hardly ever ended when it was supposed to. His tests weren't too difficult but he didn't elaborate on what was wrong on them and his lectures are terrible and unorganized. Lastly he is very late on uploading final grades to blackboard.
Jason has a very cool personality. He is always willing to help you after class. Homework is reasonable for a 4-unit class. Do the homework and do the study guides; you should get an A. He isn't hard or unfair but you will need to study and understand the math. Yes, he is almost always late, so for fun we made bets on when he'd show up... Lol.
His lectures are really slow, which is good because math can be difficult to understand. He goes over the homework. I would take him again.
perhaps my favorite professor that i've ever had. tests are challenging, but he posts study guides that cover the exact types of problems that are on the exams. the final was optional and would replace your lowest grade received on a past test. he allows you to email homework for full credit as long as it's scanned. and to top it all off, he's hot.
Professor Gardner was 5-10 minutes late to almost every class especially as the semester went on. He loses his train of thought frequently, which makes it feel like he wastes a substantial amount of class saying "ummm". Lots of homework which isn't too bad if you stay on top of it. Takes forever for him to pass back tests and grade work.
Professor Gardner is a FANTASTIC math teacher, I have always struggled with math, But he makes it so easy to understand and incorporates real world examples into every lesson which I really appreciate. I definitely plan to follow him as I advance in my levels of math
You have to show up for class or befriends a good note taker because he lectures on the board (no online notes). That being said, he explains things slowly and throughly-always offers extra help at his office hours. He has a lot of tests, but do the study guide and you'll be fine. Definitely would take a class from him again. Fantastic guy.
Mr. Gardner is a pretty good teacher. He explains calculus very thoroughly so that it is easier to understand. He also shows up to class 5-10 minutes late every day and because of this, often continues the lecture past the set end time by a few minutes so be prepared for that.
He made calculus the easiest class I've had all semester, definitely taking him again for 5A. He is late every single day, and class typically goes over about 5 mins every day because of this. He fights people leaving on time by saving the homework he wants due until the very end of class, so leave some wiggle room in your schedule.
Do not take this teacher! He is never on time, class always ended way later than it was supposed too. His lectures are hard to understand and his handwriting is awful. Everything on canvas was unorganized and always had the wrong date. He is not understanding and is never accommodating to your situations. Really bad.
This guy does not care about anything. Definitely never taking him again and if you want to do well don't take him.
Homework was an easy grade. Lectures were easy to understand. I would recommend him.
Thanks to Professor Gardner I was finally able to understand Calculus. Although during Summer it is a lot to learn, he explains it and answers questions very well.
This guy is constantly late and his lectures are hard to understand. He misses a lot of class and expects you to learn the material if hes gone. If you want to pass dont take his class.
He's very thorough. If you like to know every detail about the concepts in Calculus you'll enjoy his lectures. He does not get straight to the point. He's condescending, if you miss class he will say something about it. He's late every single day and goes over class time. Lots of homework that was more challenging than the actual exams.
Mr. Gardner did a great job of explaining much of the theory behind why things work in Calculus. He also gave clear lectures and helpful study guides for the exams (with video solutions on Canvas). Would recommend!
Assigns multiple hours worth of homework 5 days a week without breaks, by far the most busy-work filled college class I've ever taken. I already know this level of math very well and I am still stuck doing pointless homework for the good part of my day, every day of the week. This class is not about learning its about completing assignments.
Lots of homework from the textbook every day. The class was synchronous, and even though the live lectures were required to attend, they were not very helpful or necessary. The course was a little unorganized and class ran late almost every single time. However, the study guides for each exam were very similar to the tests.
Prof. Gardner was very thorough with his asynchronous lectures. We did have to go to his live discussions twice a week, which I thought was helpful for review and asking questions. There is also a good amount of homework, and it did feel like too much at times. The study guides had video solutions and were almost identical to the tests.
Best math professor I've ever had. Very good at teaching math especially online. Made the material so understandable and was very understanding given the fact we were forced to be online. I recommend.
Many of the live lectures are useless and are a couple weeks behind the actual assigned work. His handwriting is illegible and near impossible to read without going over it a couple of times. He skips over many topics which he then assigns as homework. He vaguely explains everything requiring you to do you own research to even understand.
Professor Gardner's class consisted of two recorded lecture videos a week and two asynchronous meetings. Both meetings were helpful and as long as you pay attention and participate you won't have to worry too much about exams. He is very helpful in the meetings, but his class does have a lot of homework at times.
He is the type of professor to assign homework the same day as a test. I've shed pounds of paper doing homework. He's an alright teacher, with almost illegible handwriting and notes may be confusing but he always answers questions, at least in office hours. The synchronous meetings basically repeat the recorded lectures and don't relate to hw.
Solid professor, better person. The class consisted of two homework assignments, two video assignments, and two live sessions per week. Straight forward and consistent progression through the class. Tests make up a majority of the grade.
his writing is terrible, maybe better in person. Gets back to emails very late and sometimes does not reply back. The lectures are pointless because he goes over assigned lessons to watch the day before and has no time to answer homework questions. Assigns homework on test days. Always late to class and office hours. Do the study guides!
Exams carry lots of points. Very consistent and good pace throughout semester. Lots of homework but makes learning better.
Gives multiple homework assignments a week but they aren't too difficult and help boost grades. If you know how to solve the study guides he hands out, the test will be easy. Lectures are pointless because they are a repeat of what he teaches in his posted video lessons.
Every test is monitored by proctorio and He requires a 30-minute follow-up meeting after the test where you have to prove you did that work by solving problems that were on the test. He also assigns 3 classloads worth of homework and the lectures are twice a week ranging from 1hr to 3hrs.
Professor Gardner was a solid choice for Math 4B. As long as you attend lectures, do your best to understand the work, attend office hours if you have questions, the class should not be overly difficult. I would recommend him, but I do think he deserves only a 4-star rating. He is not the perfect professor, but his desire to teach is there.
All of his online material is terrible, if he is your only option for a teacher, take his in person.
He was very thorough in the lectures on what we needed to do. He gave clear examples. However this class requires a lot of work. There are mandatory lectures and there were lecture videos that we watched as well. The exams were pretty easy as long as you were there for the lecture days.
One of the best math teachers I have had. He has perfected online teaching in a way others haven't and he made calculus enjoyable. He explains things very well and I believe he was very fair grading. He wants you to succeed if you try. Zoom participation is optional but I recommend if you struggle at math.
Prof. Gardner, while not a bad teacher, is a tough teacher. He isn't very accessible outside of class, and he doesn't explain grading mistakes. If you want an A, it will take a lot of work to figure out where you are going wrong.
I really liked how he sets up his classes and how he teaches. Office hours are very short. All exams have videos where he solves each problem on the practice exam, they are old videos so I'm not sure if they're outdated or not. Some problems on the actual test are not on the practice test.
This professor is very lazy and unorganized, he published a few modules for assignments due the same day at 11 AM. His grading is bad, if you meet with him to go over your work you can find his mistakes and he will give you points back.
There were 6 exams in spring22, they're weighted at 81%, and the final is optional. He is not a bad professor but I hate his grade weight and the amount of homework and synchronous class work he gives for them not to really help with my grade. He is pretty unforgiving when it comes to missed work, you only get one pass on HW.
Math sucks but Gardner made it slightly easier. There were 6 tests in the span of a semester, but it could have been worse. He does require a face to face session after a test to confirm whether or not you did not cheat, but it was only once so it was not that bad.
Expect an overwhelming amount of homework and lecture every week. Study guides are provided before each exam. Feedback on homework and exams were a bit unclear and unreasonable at times. The final exam for this course is optional and would replace your lowest exam grade.
You will have a HW assignment almost every night and a periodic project throughout each unit. He has study guides that roughly resemble the tests however he is still a super tough grader. He also believes in more tests covering fewer chapters so be prepared for a test every 3 weeks.
Despite the challenging material. Prof. Gardner gives insightful and in-depth lectures into the material. His pedagogy is comprehensible. However, tests are heavily weighted, so studying is key. He is non-judgemental and helpful. There is quite a bit of homework, however he will help you if you need it. Anyone can pass with dedication.
I think if you have a good understanding of calculus his class would be for you, but if you are new to it and to its concepts I would recommend you to take another professor or wait another semester to take someone else. His exams take up a good part of your grade so if you do well you will pass the class but if you don't you probably wouldn't.
He writes his lectures out by hand and his handwriting is often illegible so sit close to the board. His canvas and homework schedule are unorganized and often don't align with the material learned in class. He assigns overwhelming amounts of homework. Avoid his 2 day a week class as he is always pressed for time and rushing through the material.
Great professor, just gives a lot of homework and his hand writing can be hard to read sometimes (though I sat towards the back). I typically suck at math, but I actually didn't do so horrible in his class (would have gotten a B but I didn't study for the last test). His study guides are very helpful, and he has videos explaining the answers.
Took him years ago and actually failed his calculus one class. Just graduated Fresno State with my BS in Civil Engineering. Didn't like the guy.
I took Gardner because he was the only one teaching Pre-Calc, and he was very frustrating to learn from. This was over COVID-19, and his online lectures/meetings were rushed, mainly students solving problems independently. I understood Calc concepts well before taking this class, but when I reached out for help, he was very condescending.
Bad handwriting, VERY outdated lecture and homework help videos on his canvas.( Microphone peaks a lot, doesn't even work for some videos) The video guides are mostly 144p-360p. Very awful. Atrocious canvas organization. Often had to reschedule homework due dates and caused a lot of confusion. Would not recommend.
Moves quite fast in class but encourages questions all the time. Will take time to explain if you don't understand. Lots of tests, but he has helpful study guides for each one. PLENTY of homework but it's very beneficial. His handwriting isn't great but if you sit in the front you'll be fine. Overall pretty good!
Assigns an overwhelming amount of homework that's completely unnecessary. He also TAKES 5% AUTOMATICALLY?! To get these points back you have to do ALMOST ALL of the homework(you can miss 2). He says its like an extra bump in your grade at the end of the year? Like what? Just put my grade in Canva bro.
Jason epitomizes mediocrity as a teacher. His disorganized class structure leaves most students confused. He deducts 5% at the start of the year, regained only through excessive homework. His chronic lateness and constant errors during lessons make his teaching completely incompetent, undermining trust in him as an educator.
I would not recommend this professor. If you have to opportunity to swap, take it.
Lots of homework but isn't a strict grader on hw as long as you do it and show effort (He will doc for messy hw). Study guides are related to the class and the tests, ask questions, go to the tutors, his office hours, as long as you understand the study guides you will pass the class. He is very kind and passionate when teaching. Apply yourself.
Prof. Gardner assigns excessive homework and his lectures are fast-paced and monotone, making it impossible to stay engaged or keep up. His teaching lacks clarity and structure, and he doesn't seem to care if students understand the material. He is also chronically tardy. Overall, not a good experience and wouldn't recommend his class.
Professor Gardner runs a structured class, though his handwriting can be tricky. The course has a heavy workload, but the study guides and videos help clarify concepts. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for test prep in this class.
alot homework
Mr Gardner was my first math teacher at CCC, so I had no frame of reference. But after taking 5B, I realize how unnecessarily difficult he made things. He piles on excessive homework and does a poor job actually teaching. His lectures are unclear, and it often felt like I was learning everything on my own. Avoid him at all costs
I took this class seeing the bad reviews on RMP, but honestly he's not bad. Most of his lectures were actually decent in content. Class was EXTREMELEY course heavy, but it lines up with what he teaches anyway. In other words, he's not as bad as the reviews make him out to be, but he is also just an average professor.
He's a very nice professor. He shows that he cares for his students and does a good job teaching as well. He's very helpful and kind. Getting a B in his course was my own fault, he is a great instructor.
removes %5 of you grade automatically, only able to get it back if you finish all the homework. He assigns a ton of homework (an average of 35-45 questions/night). Very nice, isn't condescending, chronically late, and has illegible handwriting.
Professor Gardner utilizes a very heavy lecture focused teaching style. As soon as you are seated, expect him to be 3-5 minutes late everyday, and be ready to write notes for the rest of the entire class. Do not expect to understand all of it because you WILL be struggling to keep up with his lecture. Expect to receive C's on homework assignments.
Terrible professor. He gives you a ton of homework and each homework is insanely long. His lectures are tiring and he goes way too quick. He is also ruthless when it comes to late homework and expect the tests to be difficult.
