He's pretty good teacher but...A lot of homeworks...TT.. and the exam was so hard. The average grade of our class was 60/100..
he's so sick. He's so hard. our midterm average grade was 60/100. Don't take this class! you'll regret. He's not reflexible. And a lot of homeworks....I did my homework about 3 hours. At least, you will be have to study 3 hours...
Same guy as Andy Geary. Math is a lot of work, he can't help that despite being a great teacher. He is fair, I've got an A and B in his classes. There is lots of HW but it is easy points. He drops your lowest test score, and lowest 2 HW/quiz. Main negative is his tests can be hard and focus on the hardest material and leave off the easy stuff.
worst math teacher i have ever had. do anything you can do to get a new teacher, or just drop the class and take it next semester. Tests are super hard, and homework is around 70-100 problems out of the textbook a week with a quiz every week. absolutely terrible. I have never got a lower grade than a B+ in a math class, til i took him
What a joke! Everyone failed the quizzes, everyone couldn't pass the homework assignments, and tests grades couldn't have been any better. He actually cancelled class and made it an online only class after he figured out everyone wasn't doing well in the class....makes no sense. That's Harper College for ya!
He gives SO MUCH HOMEWORK! He is great at teaching, but it was just too much homework. There are a lot of word problems, so if you don't like word problems then I would advise you to not take this. You get quizzes every time the homework is due, 3 exams, & then the final. The exams are okay. The first one is pretty tough, but it gets better after.
Couldn't concentrate, always belittled you if you asked a question. I felt so stupid! We don't know the answer that's why were taking the class! He just made you feel like an idiot, and his tests and teaching ways were impossible!
If there was ever a course that made me want to run my head through a wall, I would without hesitation say it is this one. Geary is practically never available in his office, the pace set for this class is RIDICULOUS, you are practically teaching yourself and the software is priced at a much higher value than what I think it's worth. SO AWFUL.
THANK YOU GOD, I could never ask for a better instructor other than Geary. He is the best ever. I mean, free points, extra credit, he is available,we understood, we got A's. I don't see the reason why you should fail a class where you are allowed to do corrections on exams, and get half of what you failed back. unless u're dumb for real. am in agai
very very recommended.
DO NOT TAKE HIS MATH 080 6 WEEK CLASS!! This is the hardest and most stressful class ever. You have to reteach yourself everything because of the software. He never responds to emails. The homework and pace is ridiculously to fast! I've never cried so much over a class in my life! I don't recommend this teacher at all.
Im taking Math 134 (Calculus for social scientists), and I'm doing just great. You do need to make an effort to get a good grade and yeah you will get a lot of hw. However, he is a good teacher, he knows his stuff. Wouldn't recommend him if you struggle with math tho.
TERRIBLE TEACHER. he over teaches students. he makes class drag and doesnt review for tests. he just continues on to next chapters.
Professor Geary was excellent. Calculus is absolutely awful but he does his best to help his students. The ratings on this our coming from people that dont want to do the work or are just too dumb for calc anyway considering it came from people not even in MTH 100. Tons of extra credit quizzes and tests are fair, and you can make up bad test grades
Professor Geary is the best professor at Harper. If you like math I would highly recommend him.
AWESOME TEACHER! He knows his stuff very well, and does a great job explaining things. The only downside is that the homework does not have much similarity to what we learn in class. He drops 2 quizzes and tests, and the final will replace the worst test grade. I recommend him for sure!
I took the 6 week fast paced 103 course. If you don't have the general foundations for Algebra, do not take this course. 25-30 hours a week of your time is mandatory. I was also taking 3 other classes and working and somehow managed to get out with a B, but I worked for it. Need I say it was hell? When Geary says 25-30 hours a week, he means it.
Impossible
Dont take this 103 class.. If you take this class you will have to teach yourself everything. In his 103 class it was half book, half online. In class it seemed really easy, then when it came to the online homework it was stuff we never went over. One week in the home work i had 2 errors out of 6 pages and i got a 60%. I am an A math student.
Awful teacher. He gives the most simple explanations during class and does not go over material given in the online homework questions. You pretty much have to teach yourself in this class by going over the textbook on your own. He does not cover ANY of the difficult problems AT ALL. I do not recommend taking this class.
Prof. Geary teaches in a very clear and concise way, the methods and level of difficulty that he teaches in class are comparable to what can be expected on exams and quizzes. Homework is tedious, but also necessary - it isn't unreasonable. He always seemed happy to help anybody who showed enthusiasm and effort. He will prepare you well for Calc etc
He is not very helpful and actually told the class that he should be a last resort to go to for help. He gives the simplest explanations in class and does not prepare us well for any tests or quizzes.
Geary is my one and only math teacher I had so far. He's not much of a joker, and as mean as he seems, he is truly sincere. He's the type of person you need to get to know in order for him to feel comfortable acting goofy around you. He doesn't want to fail you, but if you don't work for what you deserve he is not going to pass you.
Pretty helpful but not a fun class. There is tons of homework and lots to remember. It was only college alg, so it wasn't that hard.
Very good teacher. Took him for calc 1 during the summer. First time I ever enjoyed math thanks to him.
Teaches only the basic. Assign tons of homework that don't really prepare you for quizzes.
He is a great math professor. He does give homework due only every two weeks but it truly does help with taking the tests and the final. He is a very thorough teacher and a very nice person. I highly recommend him to any future math students.
The class is fair. It's not hard because he is a phenomenal teacher. His lectures are colorful and easy to understand, which makes the homework manageable (he does collect and grade every week). Tests, again, are fair. If you paid attention and did the homework, you're going to do just fine. Just be wary of the time limit for the tests.
He's incredibly helpful. His class is NOT easy, so don't take it if you're not big on lots of homework. Homework is 20% of the grade. My entire stack of homework over the last semester from his class alone is as thick as a textbook. His tests are easier than the homework, so if you do the homework thoroughly, you're guaranteed a good grade! :)
Clear, on point, and by the book. He explains things very thoroughly and encourages being questioned. Simple analogies for a generally tough topic. Doesn't get sidetracked (rarely like once in the semester). Clearly tells you what you need to know on a test. Writes notes on projector and posts them online. Need book only for homework(in library)
Outlines expectations very clearly in the beginning of the semester. Calc is tough, especially if you plan on learning the material from the book (like I do for most classes myself) but he really dumbs the material down in his lectures so it's easy to understand. Even though he posts notes online, you won't understand them if you don't attend class
I took his online class over the summer, it was really, really tough. I'm horrible at math, so a lecture class would've probably been better suited for me. Regardless, Professor Geary was very approachable and helpful when you e-mail him for help. If you suck at math, don't take his class over the summer, the amount of material is intense.
not helpful at all and has an attitude, steer away
took his online course, he's very prompt to answer questions and a nice guy but has a hard exterior shell. wants everyone to be successful and gives extra credit opportunities
Calc is tough, but prof geary made it a lot less intimidating. hw due every week, but that's to be expected w a math class. Do all your homework, doesn't really take long and it prepares you well for the tests. Geary is a nice guy, seems a little unapproachable at first but really wants all his students to succeed. highly recommend!
very helpful- there for office hours, takes and explains questions well, lectures weren't bad (example problems and concepts were explained well), grading was understandable, one of the best calculus teachers, some tests were tough but that was ok- he always answered questions and made sure the student understood the material. Thank you!
yeah he is really nice, i definitely do recommend him, he goes really easy on grading, definitely has a clear grading criteria, i just got an A in calc 2 class, hmmmm, well take him, well for the tests he will drop one lowest, and for the homework he will drop 2. Book not required in class, but required for homework. Great Professor.
Taking this class currently over the summer, lots of homework but then again its only 8 weeks. The professor is nice and wants you to understand how to do these problems rather than just getting the answer correct.
He's awful. I took his class over the summer and dropped it after two tests. I been to every class, did all the work, and dropped with a 39%. Awful at explaining and his online work is outright ridiculous. About 30-40 questions a night on an online system each night and it will mark your answers wrong if not typed right. DONE TAKE HE IS AWFUL!
He overloads homework and doesn't explain it. Don't take this class. If you're a hands on learner you already failed.
I took his online class over the summer and it was ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Horrible. DO NOT TAKE THE ONLINE CLASS!! Ive always been pretty decent at math but this made me rethink everything. He does not give any additional help besides office hours but if I had time for office hours I wouldnt have taken it online. You have to teach yourself and the online program he uses is horrible and grades you wrong for tiny mistakes.
Not a good class. Take it with someone else. None of the other math classes give as much homework as this guy. Just helping out. It was insane.
He says he wants to help and how homeworks gooe for us but theres just way too much its bogus. Dont take class unless you have want to eat sleep and breath math.
The homework is unbearable. I dropped the last day it was awful. Unless u enjoy 3 hours of hw a night dont take this class!
Too much homework
TOOOOOO MUCH HOMEWORK!!!
He's not a bad guy. Very interesting but the homework is a lot even for college. I don't want to do 4 hours of homework in general let alone math only...
Homework or you wont pass so get ready to sit down and do hours on end of math each and every night!
One of the best professors/teachers I have ever had. Very detailed in his explanations. A+professor
This class is really hard for what it should be... Way too much online work.
Just way to much work for such a simple class. Hated this guy.
He was not a bad teacher, but not a great teacher. He wants to answer your questions. There was a good amount of homework he assigned every day. He doesn't like it when you come in late, so show up on time. That's about all I can say about him.
I took Prof. Geary my freshman year for math 103. I was hesitant to start due to the reviews he has but he actually is a really great teacher. There is for sure lots of homework to be done but it helps a lot for the test. He is open for questions which is great. Not bad at all. If you do the work and go to class you should be fine! Good luck.
Professor Geary is exactly what I hope for in a teacher. He takes the time to explain concepts as best he can in addition to encouraging questions every step of the way. He is very nice and professional. There is a lot of homework but I think that would happen in any math class and it really helps for understanding the material. Highly recommend!
I took Professor Geary for MTH 124. He is honestly such an amazing professor. He is always there for you if you have any questions. He gives a decent amount of homework, which is to be expected for a math class. Make sure to always go to class and do the homework for easy points!! Great professor!!!
He's a pretty good teacher. There is a lot of homework, but it helps you in the long run. He lectures well and tries to make sure everyone understands what he is trying to convey.
This Teacher is absolutely terrible. Too much homework. Im talking 45 online problems and 25 written problems EVERY NIGHT. He singled me out in class . Made me miss a test because i did not have a photo ID when he did not ID anyone else . Ignored emails. He does not care. Too strict.
I took Prof. Geary, WEB Summer course, MTH 103. I was hesitant to start because an online summer course, but it actually is really good. There is lots of homework, and it takes app. 20 hours per week to be done, but it helps a lot for understanding the materials and good performing on the test. He is open for questions and always answers emails.
tough guy gives too much homework. test is not nearly as hard as the homework but time consuming. Time your self during practice test as he doesn't give much time during a long test.
Answers all questions. Good teacher. Normal math class.
I needed a lower level math class to complete credits so I took this online class. I've taken AP math level already, so this class was very easy for me. However, its aloooot of online work and if you're not already good at math it may be hard to understand online. But again, I loved taking it online. Depends on what type of student you are.
Not the ideal math professor at all. Tests are extremely long for the allotted time in class and have much more difficult problems that have not been gone over or done in homework. A lot of homework problems for each section and not that much time to complete them. Teaches some sections decently but others way to complicated. Do NOT take him!!!
Business Calc is a hard class no matter what teacher. Geary was an alright teacher, the notes laid out everything you needed to know, except sometimes there would be questions that we didn't take notes on, but if you email him he'll explain it. The tests were similar to the homework but had some tough surprises that I didn't appreciate.
So there is a lot of homework, but it's easy to keep up with if you do it a day or two after he's given the notes for the chapter. The homework is what got me through the class. His lectures are very interactive and steady. He creates the test to appropriately fit within the time frame given. Gives lots of extra credit. Definitely would take again.
He's a great professor. He doesn't mind explaining things again if you need extra help. The homework was a lot harder than the tests, but that's better than the other way around. Would definitely take his class again.
Awesome! There's a ton of homework but he's amazing.
Geary is a great professor. I took him for 2 other classes (MTH103 & MTH 124). He does assign a lot of homework majority of the time, but it really helps with the unit exams (which were extremely similar to the homework and/or class notes). He is very organized and uploads all the notes on Blackboard. He is always there to answer any questions.
This math teacher is amazing! Tests are every other Friday i know it sounds bad but its actually amazing. When in calc 2 having multiple sections on a test is very tough and he has only 3 sections per test making it less stressful. Lots of homework so get ready to work. Best math teacher.
Honestly, i was super lazy. Easy a if you do the homework and take notes. Ask him for questions. You will actually learn a ton. Best of both worlds. If you are lazy, late etc. you will hear it from him.
Prof. Geary gave great lectures, and would always answer your questions with clear explanations. However, he gave a lot of homework--one assignment usually took me one to four hours, and we had two or three each week. This was a very good practice and a large chunk of your grade, but was often overwhelming. You should get an A if you do the work.
Very difficult math class. I took MTH 103 online and it has been by far the hardest class next to statistics ive ever taken. There is so much homework to do and no way around it to shorten the amount of time you have to put in it. Exams are okay but final is hard and you must pass final to pass this class. never again.
One of the best at giving lectures! So well organized. Only downfall is that he's a extremely tough grader.
Professor Geary's lectures were top notch. He would explain the concepts in a clear way and they're structured nicely so its easy to take notes. The grading however is his downfall, as the tests are graded too rigidly on correctness rather than concept. The homework is mostly 20-30 questions twice a week, a lot of it is busywork.
Professor Geary is a great professor! He's really good at teaching the material. Gives a lot of partial credit on exams, so it's not wrong or right. You still get points for attempting a problem. A lot of homework from the book. Always odds book problems. He's very nice. Be on time to class. He is picky with that. He is always ready to help.
He's always there for you if you have any questions. He is clear and straight forward, so you exactly know what'll affect your grade. There was a good amount of homework he assigned every day, which should be expected for a math class; though, he would only assign the odd-numbered questions from the book. Good instructor and good lectures!
4 tests and final. Since covid to make sure youre not cheating on tests, he'll email you after youve taken the test to go over your test and you'll have to explain them to him. Be prepared or he'll give you a 0! Towards the end, he lefts you redo 3 hw assignments and retake a test. Also take the practice test very similar to the exams! do all hw!
Professor Geary is awesome if you actually pay attention to class. He will answer any question and won't continue the class if somebody doesn't understand. It is hard and it will require many hours doing homework and doing research at home to finish homework. But if you do it you will pass this class easy without even studying the day before.
If you take good notes in class and study for the tests, you will have no problem passing this class. His explanations are straightforward and the notes are very similar to the tests. Notes are always posted online after class. Homework took about 2 hours to complete, but due a week after the lesson.
I have taken almost every math course you can take and never stumbled upon a worse teacher. 50 minutes to complete a test with over 20 problems. Homework takes 3 hours to complete. But the worst part is he is the toughest grader of all time. Does not allow for any margin of error and takes off entire points for simple mistakes. Do not take him.
I have never taken a course that has required this much homework to be done. On average you have 3 homework assignments each week and EACH assignment has 40+ lengthy problems that require excessive work to be shown. All to be done on paper. Professor does not understand that everyone has outside responsibilities, not to mention classes.
The worst professor I have ever had. He does not explain anything when you ask him for help, instead almost looks down on you. His notes in class are not at all helpful for the tests/homework. Instead, I spend countless hours at home teaching myself. On top of an absurd amount of homework. Also, a VERY tough grader.
He’s teaching styles are unorthodox coming from online learning especially. Making all homework come from online but each problem and the work must be hand written. Does not allow retakes, late hw, or excuses of any aspect (even illness). Uses review days before test to start notes for the next unit setting many students up for failure.
professor Geary is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He is fully incompetent when it comes to online learning and does absolutely nothing to help his students succeed. He is terrible at responding to emails, his notes are messy and disorganized and he is assigned more homework than there are days in the week. 0/10
DO NOT take this professor. He does not care about his students when i approach him for help he says "you should already know this we went over it" what kind of professor says that ? he is intimidating and not good at teaching he is not passionate about what he does. When sick he does not care he does not make exceptions
Yes, there was a lot of homework, but if you did it yourself, there was no need to study for the tests. That said, some of the homework was just busy work, with too many examples for the easier chapters. He is amazing at lectures and explains things very well. He keeps asking if anyone have questions, so if you didn't ask that's on you.
I had him awhile ago and forgot to do a review on him. He is genuinley the worst teachers i've ever experienced, he does not care about his students, everything thats on the study guides will not be on the tests! halfway through the semester 2/3 of our class dropped. He was just horrible at teaching and expected everyone to understand
This professor seemed to be somewhat decent but he is a tough grader but his notes were on top notch however was ok with students but he does start his review for 080 for the first 6 weeks but moves on to unit 1-5 however gives a lot of homework.
Professor Geary is a good professor that I would highly recommend. I was surprised to see all these reviews claiming he doesn't help students or answer questions because he would literally have full days of class dedicated to answering questions and helping students with stuff they don't understand.
The lectures are well-organized, but the grading is tough. Lots of homework, though it helps with exams. I found Unstuck study and the free textbook useful for study prep. Attendance is mandatory, so don't slack off.
Never in my life have I seen a teacher that is so Harsh on their students than this one. You only get 50 minutes of classtime to take a test that is about 20+ questions, the homework is unbearable and a nightmare to keep track of and overall he doesn't care if you are struggling as instead of helping you he talks down on you.
If you're looking for a supportive math professor, look elsewhere. He doesn't value students' time or effort and assumes his class is the only priority. Even when I showed all my work during teleconferences, he doubted my honesty. I scored 76%, but he gave me a zero, accusing me of cheating. Disrespectful and discouraging.
This professor is unprofessional and disrespectful. When I asked to reschedule a teleconference due to work and 4 other courses, he refused and said I'd get a zero if I didn't attend. He takes things personally, accuses students of cheating even when showing full work, and doesn't respect our efforts or time. Avoid him.
He does not respect that people who take online classes have many other responsibilities besides his class. He treats the online class as if everyone is cheating. Unless this is the only class you have and you dont work or have kids, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. zero extra credit, overly suspicious making people do conference calls post tests.
If you want to take a 103 course, you're better off taking someone else. This teacher does not respect his students when it comes to turning in assignments late, having missing assignments, not understanding the material or being excused. I asked if I could reschedule the teleconference since I had work but he said no.
Online is all self-directed. Do the homework and learn the material and you'll be fine in his class! If taking online he will have random (but mandatory) teleconferences where you might have to explain your work after tests. He responds quickly to emails and was very quick to help me and has a lot of time for those who are really trying to learn!
He is a narcissist and should get help. Unless you have a finger up his bum, he's going to be mean, disrespectful, belittling...you get the point. FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR. This guy is a good reason for practice of TENURE TO BE STOPPED. Needs to be FIRED. Who hired him? They should be ashamed. Other professors have no respect. WORST teacher EVER.
