The class is pretty easy to get a good grade in, but you have to study a lot for tests as they cover a lot of material. There is one paper that requires a good bit of work and research. There is not chance to get any credit back on any assignments or tests, even if you think that they were wrong.
Dr. Gonzalez is an amazing lecturer. There are some assignments but most are very easy although he does assign a big research paper. His tests were very hard for me and time was a major issue. I struggled finishing the tests in a less than 50 minute time frame. I got B/Cs on my tests with lots of studying so prepare to know things thoroughly
You do group discussions which are more interesting than they sound. There were only three tests (each have a ton of material) so be prepared to study hard if you want a good grade. Lectures are long, but interesting. Overall, he's a good teacher and would recommend!
He likes to talk a lot. If you have any questions, you'll have to ask your TA because if you ask him, he won't give a clear and direct answer. There are only three tests and they have a lot of material on them! The first is the easiest. You'll need to start studying a week in advance for his tests. At the end of the semester theres a research paper
There are a lot of things required for the class, least of which is regular attendance because it too counts towards the grade. The exams are tough with most of the matter being asked from the textbook. Some opportunities for bonus points, but don't really make a difference.
There were only three tests, and all of them had so much information it was difficult to remember everything. The second test was nearly impossible so study hard for it. I ended with a good grade but honestly don't know how. He does curve the tests which help since most people do poorly on them.
This class is filled with content. A bit much for an intro class IMO, but still not a super hard class. You have to really study for the exams though. If you don't, you'll probably fail. Go to every class since almost every lecture is filled to the brim with content. You have to put in work in this class. He's clearly very knowledgeable though.
Do not take this class if you want an easy A. You don't need the $100 textbook and do not write down the assigned readings (waste of time). Tests are really hard because of the short answers and jerk TA's. He is lazy and doesn't do much work, because his TA's do all the grading. 3 tests (drops lowest test grade), final, group discussion (joke!).
Dr. Gonzalez is a very caring teacher, he'll care a lot about you if you show you care about anthro. He has pop quizzes sometimes, and attendance is taken everyday through tophat. His tests are relatively easy but do require studying. The textbook isn't 100% necessary but is a good resource to use. He and his TAs are very knowledgeable, 8/10.
Not an easy A, but easy enough to at least get a B+ with a little effort. I skipped 3 pop quizzes (he drops 1) and studied last minute for the tests and was able to get a relatively easy A-. Study around 4 hours the night before and review the morning of and you should get an A in the class in if you dont skip.
He isn't a bad professor, but the tests are too much for an intro class. I was taking this class as a senior, and it was by far worse than most of my upper-level classes. The TAs also grade too harshly on the papers, and the group discussions are super elementary-feeling. It's harder than you might think, so take another professor if you can.
Heavy mandatory reading every week (textbook and supplements), group discussions (with citations in your posts), short answer assignments on readings, and a research paper. A ton to keep on top of for an online class - deadlines on Sunday, Tuesday (x2), Thursday (x2), plus ongoing work on the paper.
As an introduction class that many students have to take to fill requirements, this is the last class I would ever recommend. Gonzalez is not forgiving with grades and is condescending towards his students. Tests are full of overly complicated questions and too much content.
Very knowledgeable & passionate about anthropology, & it shows in lectures. There is a research paper & TA's grade, but if you read, study for tests, & actually try, you can definitely make an A. He also generously adjusts test grades, gives bonus opportunities, & gives answers to pop quizzes. Overall great class for my first semester of college:)
Professor Gonzalez is a good professor and honestly receives too much criticism. The class definitely has too much content for an intro level course however the information is pretty easy and just requires studying/reading the textbook. There are plenty of grade boosters and with decent effort you can definitely get an A.
He's a really fair professor! The work he assigns is easy pts which balances any poor grades and he offers so much opportunity to get extra credit. Even though attendance is mandatory you start with 2 passes and can earn up to 10 which if not used turn into extra credit! He also gives the best study materials for tests I've ever gotten from a prof!
THIS IS THE WORST CLASS YOU WILL EVER TAKE AT UGA. BEWARE. DO NOT take this class. Do not major in anthropology. He ruined my experience of anthropology. This class stressed me out to the point of tears.
DO NOT TAKE ANTH 1102 FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF YOU THINKING THIS WILL BE AN EASY CLASS. IT IS NOT. DO NOT TAKE IT. IT IS SO MUCH HARDER THAN YOU EXPECT AND IT STRESSES ME OUT SO BAD.
Jason is the epitome of making an easy A class turn into the nightmare you want to drop. Avoid his class AT ALL COST!!!
Professor Gonzalez is awesome! Clearly loves what he does and is really funny. The group discussions helped boost my grade at the end. Pay attention to his personal stories in class, they sometimes end up as extra credit questions on the test! Posts lectures online but deliberately missing important content.
I was very excited to take anthropology and if you are too, avoid Gonzalez. He is nice but takes attendance way too seriously. Check-ins at the beginning AND end of class. If you have above a 93 test average you don't have to take the final, but his tests are unnecessarily tricky & hard for an intro level class. Overall, nice guy, but NOT an easy A
Mr. Gonzalez is a man that you can tell loves his work and wants others to as well! He takes time to explain important cultural topics and even shows pictures and keepsakes from his travels and times studying along with providing hilarious stories about them as well. He chooses interesting discussion topics as well!
I took Dr. Gonzalez's online course this summer. It was a lot of work but definitely not hard. Dr. Gonzalez was always very helpful and quick to respond to emails. I think grading mainly depends on your TA so do more than the bare minimum and you'll be fine!
I swapped into this class during add/drop and it wasnt what I expected. The textbook assignments are stupid long and aren't covered in the notes (77 topics some weeks). Tests are supposed to follow the background guides supplied but ended up being at least half textbook material. Group assignments have vague rubrics and most of my group didnt help
Was definitely not what I was expecting coming into UGA my first year. The rubrics were very vague and you're graded harshly. The tests barely covered what you worked on during the week. He gives you a study guide, but they don't help. He offers extra credit, but it's not enough to bring your grade up. Avoid at all costs. It doesn't count twice.
He has not adapted well to online learning. He has not given one lecture and relies on you to read to book and read his one-page "background guides". The tests are weirdly specific and difficult. It is possible to get an A just takes an unnecessary amount of work compared to other anthropology professors at UGA. 0/10 would not recommend.
Class was easy, but this class requires alot of textbook reading. Also discussions are due almost every week which can be alot of work. Offers past unit tests which is super helpful though. There is also several opportunities for extra credit. Overall, a class that requires a good amount of work.
Gonzalez has figured out how to be paid as a professor without actually teaching. The TAs graded every assignment, aside from the ones graded automatically by the textbook website, and the only 'lectures' provided were outdated 5-10 minute videos. If you don't like teaching yourself through textbook questions, I advise not taking his class.
This class has a lot of unnecessary busy work, but the tests are very easy. He gives you the options for the short answer questions before the test. However, be prepared to be doing around 100 Connect questions a week along with a discussion.
Had him during fall 2020 pandemic semester and when I actual interacted with him he was alright- EXCEPT the whole class was based of the TEXTBOOK- so you're teaching yourself everything (its 80$ btw) and the group discussions are more like writing a miniessay. You'll probably be super annoyed when you get a 3rd midterm 2 weeks before your final.
Attend lectures for participation points (TopHat) and keep up with the material in lecture slides and the tests will be pretty easy. I probably opened the textbook once or twice, and there are some larger assignments you have to do, but none of it is too difficult.
Although I did not get a chance to know Dr. Gonzalez personally because of COVID, he did his best to stay in touch with his students. There are quite a few assignments per week, however, there are not very hard. The tests are also pretty easy. As long as you stay up to date with elc and get the work done, you will get an A.
If your expecting GEOG 1101 amount of work, youre mistaken. 7 individual discussion posts, and 7 group discussion post. Discussion post must cite the textbook, discussion articles, outside sources each multiple times for full credit. Same for group post. To do that means there are 14 essays plus a final 6 page essay. WAY too much for a 1102 class.
I will go ahead and admit I drew this class out of a hat, but I am glad I did. Dr. Gonzalez's class does require a lot of work, but it helps you develop a more beneficial, globalized perspective of things in the long-run. The online class itself was structured very well: office hours were easily accessible and all assignments were posted on-time.
I did not learn anything in this class. To be honest, his way of teaching made me HATE anthropology. It was completely asynchronous however we had group discussions that we had to do every week. His class is very reading-heavy. The tests have very specific questions from even his videos. You can get a good grade if you put a lot of effort into it.
Possibly the worst class you could take and do not ever take this class over the summer because you won't have a life. I have never had to do so many group assignments where half the people in your group don't even participate, but the professor doesn't even care about that and won't help. Everything is graded so harshly and specific it's crazy.
His summer class is the hardest thing I've ever had to keep up with. I spend way too many hours during the week answering roughly 300 MC questions a module in addition to lengthy discussion posts, group documents, and assessments. He also grades way too harshly considering this class never meets and I do all of this while working 5 days a week :/
This class is filled with busy work. The actual subject of anthropology is very interesting but this professor forces it down your throat so much through HOURS of assignments and readings that you might end up hating the subject entirely. He expects you to devote your entire life to this one class. If that wasn't enough, he also grades unfairly.
Don't take this as a summer class. The course was simple, but he made it unnecessarily hard. Sometimes he gave helpful feedback, but it was usually just snarky, unhelpful comments. Everything was vague. I honestly feel like I was robbed of my money. Sometimes group members didn't even show up. We learned some cool stuff, but the class was awful.
Grading dependent on quality of TA. You need to work: PLAN AHEAD & BE INDEPENDENT. Expect long (and seemingly pointless) hours with group discussions, assessments, and textbook questions. READ RUBRICS!! Take notes based on learning objectives. Assessments based on background guides and textbook readings. Currently at an A, waiting on final grades.
Avoid taking this professor for Anthropology. Dr. Gonzalez has a great knowledge of Anthropology but makes the class a lot harder. It is almost impossible to get an A on any of the assignments. This professor is the toughest grader I have seen and if you want to take this class as a requirement, take it with some other professor.
I don't understand why this guy's rating is so low. Dr. Gonzalez is an absolute icon and must be protected at all costs. The class is super lecture heavy but in general he's an interesting presenter and it isn't boring. He's a little quiet, so try to get a seat towards the front and you're golden. The connect assignments take a min but rnt hard.
I love him! He makes learning fun and is great at explaining. The connect questions are time consuming, but not hard. Tests questions usually come from his lectures, so show up even though he doesn't take attendance, your notes will help a lot. He has really interesting stories and the group discussions are also very interesting.
Lots of unnecessary work and lectures and homework do not reflect the difficulty of the tests. You will definitely have to work for your grade. Would recommend a different professor if you are looking for an easy A.
Dr. Gonzalez does a good job of covering the material in an easy to understand way and always gives time for questions in class. The textbook readings each week were a bit tedious, but definitely covers important topics that the lectures don't cover. There's weekly discussion posts, which were annoying, but the due dates are lenient.
Jason was an awesome prof. Unlike some, his grades are a good mix of a bunch of things so if you bomb a test, you could still pass. His tests are super easy though. He gives a bank of potential questions and makes it really easy to study. There is weekly connect question s but they are easy to do. Overall, hes a really good choice.
Dr. Gonzalez is definitely very knowledgable about his field, but the class has a good deal of busy work that doesn't really have much to do with what we're actually tested on. The discussions are kind of long and take awhile, but if you do it right it's not difficult to get an A.
To be an entry level class he makes it hard for no reason
This class is very TA reliant, if you get a TA who cares about being clear and transparent with you, you will be ok. However, good luck trying to understand any of his rubrics because he has no understanding of his own grading criteria. Stay away from this professor and try and find someone with better ratings because he is awful.
Dr. Gonzalez relied solely on TAs in his class and was not very willing to help with issues or questions. This class was a lot of busy work and lecture heavy. He is very knowledgeable about the anthropology field, so if youre hoping to be an anthropologist he would be a good choice.
Not sure why some of these reviews are so bad. He was a good professor, and you will come out with an A if you apply yourself. There are questions due every week that go along with the textbook, but answers are on quizlet. Most of the material can be found in quizlet because he recycles. Class discussion days are mandatory. Youll be fine!
I really liked this class! I loved Dr. Gonzalez, and I thought his lectures were super interesting. There are 3 tests, a final, a few discussion posts, weekly homeworks, and a final research paper. As long as you put in some effort, you'll get a good grade. Would definitely recommend if you're interested in anthropology.
Gonzalez was an awesome professor. Its obvious that he really cares about the material that he is teaching. The class is structured so that you have to stay involved in order to do well, but the material is engaging. The assignments are very easy and straightforward and the rubrics are all detailed. 10/10 would take again, it was super interesting.
The tests will be based on his lectures and not from textbooks. So if you focus in class you are set. All other activities which are weighted heavily are more or less participatory and easy to get As. This class is easy overall because no reading is required (it is "required" but you don't need them for tests) thus not time consuming.
Gonzalez isn't as bad of a prof as ratings make him out to be, but given the option again, I'd definitely take the other professor, considering how much lighter a workload it sounded like they had. Gonzalez shows lots of enthusiasm over topics, & offers lots of extra credit opps, but prepare for long tedious homework & tests based only on lectures.
I think that Jason is a nice guy, but not the best teacher. Lectures were scattered and I could never hear him. Also, tests are on lockdown browser with camera which was awful. Take the other teacher because hers are online with no lockdown and the workload seems a lot lighter. I would not take this class again.
Lots of busy work. Take another professor
He talks so much but never actually says anything
DO NOT TAKE HIM. His instructions are very hard to understand and contradicts himself. You will have 3 hours of textbook reading and questions alongside the reading. Also, THE MOST BORING CLASS EVER.
Gonzalez has a pretty quiet voice for someone who teaches in lecture halls and his lectures are not the most entertaining. The workload is bearable and the tests are decent. Not an entertaining class, but overall it's bearable.
Do not take this professor!! Way too heavy of a weekly workload. The discussion question each week is tedious and is basically 3 short essays with citations needed. Several hours of work alone then you also have at least 2 hours of online concepts. This class could be great if the weekly discussions were not so detailed and strict.
Very boring, unclear lectures, where tons of information is thrown at you at once. Tests are difficult, pretty tough class.
Do not take anthropology with Jason unless you enjoy doing 2 hours of McGraw Hill questions every week. He likes to go on tangents in lecture then hurry through the content and does not post the PowerPoints anywhere. The test are easy if you study but the study guides he provides are terrible and don't go over 1/2 the material on the test. Avoid.
The class really isn't awful if you actually sit down and study for the tests. Lectures are not bad if you just copy the powerpoints. There are weekly McGraw Hill questions and discussion posts but once you get in the habit of doing them they aren't bad and aren't toughly graded.
Don't take this class/Gonzalez to fulfill Section IV. Your grade relies on your TA because they grade your discussion posts and tests. His lectures are really boring and he makes the tests unnecessarily difficult. Loads of info to know for the tests, and because I studied a LOT, I have an A so far. Not an easy A, there are easier classes to take.
Gonzalez is really boring during lectures. He also doesn't post slides and requires a lot of textbook reading every week as homework. The tests aren't all that bad if you study for them, but it takes a lot more effort than it should to get an A. Wouldn't suggest him by any means, but it's not the end of the world if you get stuck in his class.
The content of the class seemed interesting to me, but his teaching style ruined it. His lectures are honestly boring and he doesn't post any of the slides or lectures if you don't make it to class or don't take notes. I've dedicated more time to his class and its unnecessary assignments than my core classes, just don't take him.
He is a nice guy, but I have spent way too much time on this class. 2 hours of McGraw Hill questions and an online discussion every week. Boring lectures. The tests are hard to study for because the info comes from his lectures/power points (which he doesn't post). Study guides aren't helpful and it's unnecessarily hard to do well on tests.
Dr. Gonzalez is a really nice guy, but his class is mainly lectures, and they're not very interesting. The homework consists of textbook questions on Connect, and they're super repetitive and unnecessary. Same thing for the required discussion posts. The tests are online though and they're fairly easy if you pay attention in class.
All i need to say is, don't leave his class early. I watched him make a scene and embarrass one guy for leaving class 10 minutes early. Jason accused the poor soul of "disrupting" his 300 person lecture. And threatened to take points off his grade.
I don't get why people are saying this is the worst class ever. Not even kidding when i say i have a 100% in this class currently. There are connect questions due every week but i don't notice them anymore because i split them up through the week. The tests are kind of difficlt but he gives you a list of short answer questions that will beon test.
Do not take this guy he's a piece of work. His class is about a subject that only exists in the United States and there is way too much work for it to be a culture class. He has MH Connect questions that have like 90 concepts and it takes hours.
Unclear lectures and doesn't post the slides. Half of the time I don't even know what he's talking about because it's so much, unorganized information thrown at you. Assignments take a long time, between connect questions and discussion posts. The tests are hard. You can get a fine grade, it's just a lot of busy work
This class was very lecture and textbook heavy, but not all that hard. I learned most of the information from doing the homework. As long as you do the connect questions (basically quizlet but for a grade), you'll be fine. As a teacher, Prof. Gonzalez isn't great, but the class is interesting and easy.
This class broke me. So much unnecessary busy work for a culture class credit. Seriously, none of my classes for my actual major required this much work. MH connect questions took hours even though they're on quizlet. Boring lecture and didnt post notes so u basically had to go. Dont take this class unless you love busy work and wasting your time
Uses connect way too much and tests are way too hard for an intro class. Also theres a final research paper, unit test, and a final exam all in the last 2 weeks.
Dr. Gonzalez was an ok professor. His class was very lecture heavy and you had to be in class to take notes, he never posts them online. Just seems like he likes hearing himself speak. Though its not a hard class, there's a lot of busy work. Overall, don't take this class if you don't have to. Kind of a waste of time.
Not too difficult to get a good grade in this class if you put some time in it. Gonzalez is very passionate about the subject but just assigns too much busy work. Very fair grader.
A lot of these reviews hate on him but the class wasn't really that hard. There's weekly reading/questions but they're for completion and really help me understand the content. There is a paper which sucks but other than that all you have to do is just do the work and you'll get an A. There are discussions but they're an opportunity for Xtra creds.
Gonzalez is a good lecturer, but not a good professor. He is good at telling you information, but not good at helping you understand it. This class relies a lot on your own understanding and will-power to understand the material, but it is not hard at all. Tests are loaded with material, but doable.
Too much homework. Each week had a 2.5 hour multiple choice assignment, 40 textbook pgs. and a discussion post that took around an hour. Hard to understand in lectures (mumbles) and much of the information is not on the slides. Tests are all lockdown browser with a webcam. 4 page paper at the end that the class does not prepare you to write.
Reading the reviews, it seems like I am an outlier in thinking that Professor Gonzalez was a pretty good professor. While I won't deny that the homework was excessive and overbearing at times, if you simply do the work you will get an A, as the class is not graded too hard. If you are interested in Anthropology like I am, the class is not that bad.
While its easy to get a good grade, be prepared to do a lot of homework. There is at least 3-4 hours of work expected to be done each week. Tests are not easy and are a heavy part of your grade.
Prof Gonzalez is not very nice and his class is extremely boring. The tests have material that he never mentioned in class. Lots of hw - 3-4 hours a week plus studying when there is a test. There is a 5 page research paper at the end of the semester and each topic has different requirements like making a 15 min video. Don't take this class.
I took this class because I thought it would be an Easy A. This class was so much material, homework, and took a lot out of my week. However, because there is so many assignments everything balanced out and it is very doable to get an A. The tests were extremely hard and difficult to get above a 93 to exempt the final.
in my opinion i really don't think gonzalez was that bad. the lectures had good content and i thought the tests were relatively easy if you study the lecture notes. i didn't read the textbook either and still got an A. there's probably better professors, but if you have to take him i truly think that you will be fine if you just do the assignments.
Professor Gonzalez is super passionate about what he teaches and the lectures are usually pretty interesting. There are required readings but most people manage an A without them. Tests aren't terrible if you study for them. A decent amount of work but an A if you need one.
Lots of work - questions online once a week, discussion posts throughout the term, long tests. The tests are online with a lockdown browser and are pretty hard, so study. I think if you put in the effort you can get a good grade.
He's a nice guy and knows what he's talking about. Class wasn't that bad there are just easier classes for your culture credit, and I found it boring personally. Lots of information and too much time spent on hw and studying for an intro class, but if you do it, you'll do fine. Appreciated being able to exempt the final with a 93+ test average.
This was an easy class but so much information and homework. Wasn't too bad but the weekly connect questions were so tedious with at most 200 questions attached with readings. There are 3 tests and if you average a 93 or better you don't have to take the final which was a nice plus. He also offers a lot of extra credit. He can be arrogant.
Very impressed with Dr. Gonzalez and how much material he knew and covered that lined up almost exactly with the textbook. The more you do, the higher the grade you get on any assignment. Some material was boring but I learned a lot and got an easy A. Textbook is the way to go. Going by the rubrics was easy and fair enough. Would recommend.
I ended up having a lot of work in this class for it to just be an intro class. We had weekly connect questions that would take hours (nearly 200 questions at times) and discussions that he would expect a lot from. Reading the textbook is the best way to do well on tests, gave out extra credit and if you have a 93 noncurved test average or higher.
Professor Gonzalez seems like a decent enough guy but I would never take this class again. I only took this class because I needed a culture credit and it was one of my most time consuming classes of the semester. Honestly, the textbook was more helpful than the lectures but I will still attend. Tests are VERY specific, not very easy overall.
Boring lectures; too much work for entry level course; doesnt seem to want you to like anth There are three midterms that arent too bad; short (400 - 8000 word) papers every 2-3 weeks; and weekly readings with questions Overall not the best class for getting a WLC credit
I have a love hate relationship with this course. It is a ton of work, I had more work for this class than I did my other 11 credit hours combined. However, if you put in the work you will get an guarenteed A+.
If you go to lecture and do homework you'll get an A. However, the lectures are boring and he gets off topic/rambles. Homeworks takes forever, like 80 topics that take 3-4 hours. Grading is done by TA's, so if you get a strict TA your grades will be worse than a classmate with a different TA. Unclear grading on discussions and so much writing.
I did good in this class, but it was extremely time consuming for a 1000 level class. I feel like he made things harder than they had to be, and the tests were difficult. He was also really rude. There was a ton of homework. The homework was helpful in learning the material though. Your grade is basically determined by your TA.
Ok, listen up. Professor Gonzales was amazing! Lectures were super interesting and he was quite funny. It was the perfect amount of work for an intro college course. Manageable weekly MCQs, frequent discussion posts, and a final paper. Be sure to take notes on what he says AND what is written on slides. I highly recommend hominin final paper.
Nice guy, but I don't recommend. The work for this intro class is more than my other upper level classes combined. His lectures are sometimes cool but some topics are so boring. Take ANTH1102 with a different professor if you just need the credit. Weekly connect questions (takes like 3 hours), long discussions, tests, and a final research paper.
I do not understand why he has such a low score. He was a great teacher. There is a lot of course work, but you have tons of time to complete it all and most of it does not take a lot of brain power just time consuming. I would take his class again, because he graded easily and always curved tests. Super easy to get a good grade in his class.
Even though it was online this was literally the worst class I have taken throughout college. He made everything complicated for absolutely no reason. There was something due literally every day.
alot of stuff to do but easy. its easy to get an A but much more unnecessary work compared to other gen-ed easy credits and other anthro classes.
He literally will talk about himself the whole lecture, every day. He also wont help you with things, he'll pass along everything to his TA's. I genuinely cant tell you one thing I learned in there. He doesnt know how to teach and he is sooo not helpful with any questions you have.
Be ready for a load of homework/ course work in general. Lectures are not mandatory however he does not post any presentations online. tests account for a major part of grade. many group projects and discussions.
It was an alright class, I just hate Anthropology. Unit 2 was the hardest test as it required a lot of memorization. Discussion posts are such a pain to write sometimes. The professor was rather funny, so it made the class more tolerable. No slides are posted so make sure to attend class. Lots of textbook reading.
Really enjoyed this class. Test were a little difficult but if you do the study guides that he posts than you'll be fine. Group discussion posts got a little annoying but it was a good break form lectures. Do the homework and study for the tests and it won't be bad. You're able to exempt the final if you get an A average on the 3 unit tests.
He wasn't a bad teacher at all to me. All the discussion post are graded by your TA so if you have a nice TA then you're good. The connect questions were easy but they do take a bit of time. Attendance is not mandatory but if you're going to miss class have a friend in the class because he does not post the notes on ELC. He is also a bit sassy.
2-3 hours worth of outside of class work. The lectures may be extremely boring but you should definitely show up to them because it can mess you up for the tests if you fall into the habit of not attending.
I really enjoyed Professor Gonzalez's class. Yes, sometimes his lectures could get boring or he would get off topic, but usually the information he was teaching was exactly the same on test. The Connect questions you have to do weren't hard just very time consuming. I would take him again for the easy A.
Really enjoyed this class. He always had interesting examples and stories. I never got bored in the lectures. There was a lot of work for an intro-level class, but it's not hard work (weekly connect questions and discussion posts). The tests really aren't bad - just study. If you have an A test average you can exempt the final.
Honestly, for an intro class it was a lot of work. I took this class thinking it be an easy elective but I was wrong. I have a A+ in this class, it was a crap ton of work & his lectures are SO BORING. He goes on long talks & the discussion posts is a SATAN SPAWNER. But, if you do your work you'll make a A, but you soul will be sold away to satan.
Not a bad professor at all. Not much work to do besides connect questions and discussion posts which are easy completion grade 100s. Tests are moderately hard but if you study well for them then you will be fine. Final research paper was also very easy and should be an easy A for the class overall as long as you put in the effort.
As long as you turn in all the work, take notes in class, and study for the tests, you will be fine in this class. Jason is nice and pretty funny, and although there are a lot of assignments none of them are hard. I would recommend studying extra hard for test 2 and also looking at the research paper topics far in advance.
when signing up for this class, these reviews made me think this class was going to kill me. it did not. if you go to class and pay attention, you will do well. there is a pretty decent amount of work but it's all manageable. the TAs are very helpful if you reach out and there are a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
ANTH 1102 is a good class if you need an easy culture credit. There are LONG weekly Connect questions, and a pretty lengthy discussion post every few lectures. Dr. Gonzalez is also good about giving you the information you will need for the exams. If you are okay with easy exams at the expense of a decent amount of hw, take this course.
This class can be a lot of work. There are connect questions every week that can take up to three hours a week and there are discussion assignments every couple weeks that can take a while. You will get a high A in the class if you just do the work. The tests are fairly easy, but getting the notes from the lectures are needed to do well on them.
This class was somewhat assignment heavy and as a result is not necessarily one you can just sleep through. However, Jason was an excellent lecturer and was very informed as an experienced archaeologist. He was very interesting to listen to and made it worth to attend class, even though it was optional.
Dr. Gonzalez was fun and had entertaining lectures. He was knowledgeable about course content and did not simply read off of his slides. There was a fair bit of work near the end of the semester with the paper, but it was never difficult especially if you didn't procrastinate. He was very generous with test curves and they were easy.
Lot of homework, but it is all easy.
was a pretty awesome prof. i broke my leg and forgot to take a quiz and he saved me. a cool dude overall, clearly cares a lot about anthropology. would take again, just make sure you care about anthropology.
Taking this class as a senior to fulfill a prerequisite for grad school. Easy content, easy exams, nice professor. He offers plenty extra credit. No attendance taken except on 6 discussion days, required attendance. HOWEVER, I've taken many intro level and upper elective classes. This is a TIME CONSUMING class. There's a ton of TEDIOUS BUSY work!
Professor Gonzalez was a great lecturer and offered a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. There was a lot of work that was pretty time consuming, but if you did the work you would get a good grade in the class. The test had somewhat difficult questions that weren't always covered in class, but overall wasn't a terrible class.
If you just read the weekly questions, not even the textbook, the class is very easy. Go to class for the first couple weeks, then stop a little in and just put effort into it outside of class (minimal effort). The tests are super easy, just be sure to look at the long answer questions beforehand.
ANTH 1102 is an awesome and easy class to take to fulfill your requirements. Dr. Gonzalez is a caring professor, and lectures are interesting and funny, although attendance is not required, and in my opinion, you can easily pass without attending lecture.
Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy filler credit! Discussions are treated like a research paper and the final project is incredibly tedious. Tests are also extremely hard due to a combination of FRQ and MC. Overall way too much work for what the class is
Most unhelpful professor. Email him a question and will just professionally fade the question. Doesn't really care about the students and tests are too short for the amount of content. Lots of discussions and research paper. There is a lot of extra credit opportunities though.
Rambles during lectures, goes off topic often, and is sometimes hard to understand, and doesn't post them online. Connect questions every week, sometimes over 100 concepts (3 1/2 hours). Discussions are bi-weekly, tedious, multiple citations, reply WITH A QUESTION, and graded abnormally hard. The last 2 weeks of class: 2000 word paper, 2 exams.
He's a funny guy but lectures are kind of boring. Work isn't that difficult if you just do it. If you want an A just take notes and do the HW and discussions.
The amount of homework is actually insane, so don't expect this class to be an easy GPA booster. Everything is graded for completion though, and a lot of extra credit is offered. Tests are take-home and online but with a lock-down browser. Dr. Gonzalez does have a bit of an ego, so if you need help or an extension, make sure it's a real excuse.
Dr. Gonzalez was quiet the character. This class was incredibly boring and very tedious. The content was not hard and neither were the tests but there are easier culture credits to take. He did not provide his lecture slides and there were weekly participation homework assignments with hundereds of questions that would take hours to do.
Felt like I had to work a lot harder than I should have to scrape by with an A in 1102. The connect questions and discussions take a surprising amount of time & effort, but the TAs grade loosely which helps. The 20 question short answer bank on the tests will become your enemy. Going to class helps a little & he does have some interesting stories.
TERRIBLE CLASS Makes it seem easy but the professor does not teach and only talks about himself then tells you to do an assignment he gives absolutely no directions on. Also assigned into groups for a year long poster project. Discussions every Friday. Plus another group project you work on throughout the year. It's not an easy class at all!!
I think this professor must have a miserable life and feels the need to take it out on students. I have never had a professor give so little direction as to what will be on exams and quizzes. He expects you to know obscure little details of several 10+ page articles for the quizzes, and you have to know 2 months' worth for the exam. Avoid!!!
He has you do so much busy work and useless assignments. His TA's refuse to give full credit on any kind of writing assignment(they will take 5-10 off for spelling on a 3 page comprehensive paper.) All he does is talk about himself during class and the quizzes are super specific. More work than my 3 engineering classes. Dont waste your time!!!!!!!!
Each week you had to collaberate with a random group on a document and discussion and ton of reading, quizzes, and tests. He also is not understanding, he gave me low grades because I "didn't contribute enough" even though he knew I was recovering from surgery. If you have to take it over the summer it's fine but defintly look for other options.
I'm a straight A student, but he made it terribly difficult to do anything. Expects you to read multiple long and detailed articles starting from the weekend, then you have a quiz on that material by WEDNESDAY 8 AM W LOCKDOWN + CAM (HE DOESN'T FINISH HIS LECTURE BY THEN, YOU TEACH YOURSELF)He rudely cussed at me for a mistake HE made! DO NOT TAKE!
Yes, we have 5-to 6 articles or videos to watch each week with a quiz, but they aren't very hard if you actually do the readings. If you make A's in the weekly quizzes and writing assignments, you are exempt from the exams. ALSO, he recently asked us to evaluate the class, and he listened and changed what he could!
These ratings are actually so over-exaggerated. The class is really not that bad for a college course. Like yes there is a good amount of assignments each week but college isn't like high school, this should be expected. Coming from someone who puts in the bare minimum and procrastinates, I was still able to end with an A+. You'll be just fine!!!
Loved him!!!
This class was an easy A. Work outside of class included readings, quizzes, and writing assignments each week, which take a bit of time but are not difficult. There is also a group project. Engaging lectures, very knowledgeable professor. He also asked for the feedback of the class and made adjustments accordingly.
The class itself is easy. Your given readings to do outside class, take notes on lectures, take weekly quizzes based on the two. Work outside class may seem like a lot but it's all easy stuff. Recommend spreading out the workload (which isn't even bad) throughout the week. His lectures are good.
yes there is a good bit of work outside of class, but the class is very interesting and easy to follow, and its not incredibly hard to receive a good grade. his class is very clear and laid out very well.
Great teacher, lots of busy work. Also lots of group work. Easy class if you pay attention, stay on top of work, and can work well in groups.
Drops a lot of low grades/missing assignments + gives extra credit out often. Ik some people complained about workload, but it's just one quiz and essay a week- but all the info could be found looking at his topic overview. Attendance is "mandatory" but if you just do the TopHat questions by yourself you really don't have to go- TA grades work
Weekly quiz, readings, and short essay, but they are easy if you pay attention in class and you can redo the quiz three times. Don't have to take the exam if your average is an A in both weekly essays and quizzes. Some group work throughout. Professor is very knowledgable and cares about the information he is teaching. Not as bad as everyone says!
He said he changed the class entirely, and I found it to be good. There are weekly readings, quizzes, and writings. Attendance isn't strict, but there are group activities that you'll want to show up to and TopHat questions in the lecture. He's very passionate and exempts you from the exams if you have an A average on your quizzes and writings.
Lecture heavy, but very engaging. If you maintain an A on the writing and quiz assignments then you don't have to take the two exams. There is also a big group project due at the end of the semester.
The workload in this class is no joke - lots of time-consuming discussions and assignments. But if you stay on top of it and use helpful study tools like unstuck AI, you can definitely pull off a solid grade. The professor has an entertaining personality, even if the lectures can be a bit dry.
Professor Gonzalez truly cares about his students and makes a clear effort to try and make his class more enjoyable. He mentioned that he has changed his approach to the class recently so I would disregard old reviews. There are weekly readings, quizzes, and writing assignments but they are very manageable. He does use tophat for attendance though
While attendance is claimed to be not mandatory he does top hat questions during the lectures to take attendance, however you can do them from home if you don't want to go. There is tons and tons of homework for this class every week, however if you stay on top of it you can get exempt from the exams which is nice. There is also a group project.
Attendance is technically mandatory but it just consists of open-ended Tophat questions so you can just do them from home. Honestly I don't understand why he gets so much hate. There is a LOT of coursework but it's still easy and very easy to get an A. Also there's weekly group projects and quizzes, but you can retake the quiz if you get above a C
He a big bish
This class was a lot of busy work. Every week you had to do readings, quiz, big writing assignment, show up to class, and do inclass work. If you did the work, you can easily get an A and get exempt from the two tests. The final project is pretty easy. He did seem passionate about the content and he had a groupme to be accessible to the students.
The weekly quizzes were based on extremely long readings with secure browser quizzes that were extremely specific. U also had writing assignments, which were graded harshly. He did make quizzes easier later on and if u get As on both quizzes and writing assignments before tests, u don't have to take them. Not a hard class but too much work.
This class really isn't hard-the readings are long but manageable and you're able to retake the quizzes up to 3 times. The writing assignments are short and easy if you go to lectures, the TA's can be weird about grading though and don't like to give out 100s. You can also exempt midterm and final if you have an A. Professor is quirky but nice.
His class is well-organized. In-class quizzes and hw small assignments on TopHat are for participation, weekly quizzes are time-limited and require a lot of reading. Group and personal assignments are manageable. There are two exams, but I got automatic As due to high grades on quizzes and assignments. Instead of a final, there's a group project.
Took Intro to Anthropology. Very group project based and TAs do all the grading. You can exempt exams as long as you keep up with weekly assignments. Quiz retakes and Final group project. Easy class if you show up and keep up
It's a crap ton of work. Weekly quizzes (lockdown browser), weekly readings & homework, and weekly writing assignments. Everything is graded by a TA, so it can make or break your grade. But if you bring up a bad grade to the prof, usually the grade can be changed. Boring lectures; attendance is required as it's recorded by TopHat. 7/10 recommend.
Dr. Gonzalez was a nice and passionate professor. You can tell he enjoys his research as well as teaching. The first half of the semester was very text-heavy, but he responded well to feedback, and it became more manageable. If you do the readings the quizzes/tests are easy. There is a good bit of group work that is not very enjoyable but easy.
Dr. Gonzalez is very passionate about anthropology and excellent at teaching it in a captivating way. Expect weekly 350+ word essays, lockdown browser quizzes, and readings. This class can be very easy if you are willing to pay attention and retain information taught in the lectures and readings.
As a person, I think Gonzalez is a great guy. He is very dedicated to anthropology and loves teaching it. However, the group projects in this class are where he loses me. The group work happens on Fridays. The group project is worth 25 percent of your grade, and if you miss some work days, he will allow your groupmates to kick you off the project.
This class was so easy. everyone rates it hard on here but theres no tests if you do your homework and i put in very little time outside of class. attendance is only mandatory on fridays. this is a great credit for culture and its not hard.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! I'm in it, and he assigns unnecessary homework and readings. The readings consist of multiple 20-page articles, along with 20-minute videos and a quiz due at 8 AM on Wednesday. The quiz questions are extremely niche, and you won't remember any of them. Only the TA grades, and they grade so harshly that it's annoying.
If you hate yourself, sign up for this. He assigns so much busy work and only has the TA grade the assignments. He is extremely rude when you ask him a question before class and always has an attitude. The TA's all grade differently so your grade is up to them pretty much with zero explanation. It's impossible to keep up with the work and do well!
Does not care about your grade.
Doesn't care
When looking at review for him pay attention to the date, because in the fall of 2024 he completely scrapped and restructured his course (because he realized it sucked). Its now easier, there are no textbooks, there's a bunch of opportunities for extra credit, not that much homework, and as long as you show up and take notes you'll be fine.
Great professor, knows his stuff, will answer questions. Do good on the homework (very easy) & quizzes (somewhat easy and online) and you are exempt from tests. Assignments are consistent, same things, same time, every week. One big group project over the year that takes minimal effort. Attendance taken only on Fridays. Class is TA reliant.
DO NOT TAKE! This class is looking forward to taking a bite of cereal, and then mid bite realizing the milk is expired. Such a disappointment and sour feeling! He assigns so much work and is so strict on grading it. Prepare for your TA to suck! And maybe for you to fail out of UGA! All the 5's are him and the TA's lying to your face. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Don't take this class. It was so much work and graded very harshly. Every-time I tried to ask him a question after class he was so sarcastic in a rude way, very unhelpful, and made me feel so dumb for asking a simple question. Also doesnt take sick notes ??? not sure why.... also ONLY takes attendance on Fridays. No pros about this class.
All busy work not listening to students. Uses tophat even thought he is too old to understand technology and everything goes through his TA's who grade incredibly harshly. A miserable experience and he is just a rude human for someone who teaches anthropology. A sad outcome of a class I was excited to take.
not good at anything
Attendance does matter and lectures are pretty boring, but such an easy A, besides for group projects all assignments/exams are done outside of class.
Did not teach, assigned readings which all tests and homework were based off of
This class was fine, he is fine. There's a lot of dumb busy work which is so annoying, but it also becomes pretty manageable once you develop a system. The TAs grade harshly which is annoying. Also there's mandatory Friday discussion and group poster project which sucks if you have bad groups like I did.
He does give a lot of homework, but it is so easy that there's nothing to worry about. As long as you scan the readings and watch the videos you should be alright.
Takes up so much with primarily busy work. Reads right off the slides in lectures, and can be very demeaning to students. Biggest issue is he lets his TAs grade however they want to. Some people were given the ability to resubmit, while others weren't. Your experience is completely connected to your TA, and they were not helpful.
The class itself was not very hard because even though there is a lot of reading, if you do well on the weekly at home quiz (3 attempts) and writing assignments, u get to exempt the midterm and final. However, the grading is really rough and depends on the TA's that grade strict and seem to grade based on their own personal preference
Gonzalez had quite a bit of coursework, but it was always very consistent each week. His quizzes aren't too bad as long as you do the reading and overviews. Tests are optional as long as you do well on quizzes and weekly essays. Does TopHat as well.
There are weekly quizzes due Wednesday morning at 8am every week, which are based off the lecture from Monday and some of the readings. There are usually 2 readings each week along with a homework assignment. Every grade in this class is easy to do good on provided you prepare. Group assignments are weekly and a final project with a group as well.
He's pretty chill, attendance is only mandatory on Fridays. You can exempt exams if you have an A average in the weekly quizzes and papers which is achievable if you just do the readings (they're boring). Theres a final group project that you work on throughout the semester which isn't too difficult it's just a thorn in your side. Overall, cool guy
The class overall is very easy. There's easy weekly review quizzes and writing assignments, but most of this is busy work. He lets you use chat gpt as a resource for some assignments. Just keep up with everything and it's pretty manageable.
Very routine homework that is not too bad at all, MC proctored quiz and 300 word writing assignment. There are two exams that you can exempt by having an A average for weekly quizzes and writing assignments. Attendance is important though, but just showing up and doing the minimum should get you an A.
The whole class is just him yapping.
He gives so much busy work with the weekly readings and quizzes. If you don't have the opportunity to exempt the test, just look over the quizzes, he uses a lot of the same stuff on the exams.
Considering this class had 300 students in a lecture hall, I'd say Dr. Gonzalez did a splendid job. He is incredible at explaining anthropology material, and the class structure is PERFECT. Each week is the same thing, due at the same time. One small paper and one quiz. If you have an A on quizzes and papers, you are exempt from the tests.
Super easy class. If you have an A average on weekly essay and online quizzes you don't have to take the exams. The quizzes are lockdown browser and camera, but they are not really all that hard if you do the readings. Lots of readings every week. Writing grade highly based on your TA.
Dr. Gonzalez is a funny guy. However, his lectures are SO boring. He just yaps. The lectures are hard to pay attention to. There is so much busy work: 4-7 articles, 2-3 videos, 1 quiz, 1 HW, and 1 writing PER WEEK. Attendance is mandatory on Fridays for group work days. If you have an A average for quizzes and writing, you can exempt exams.
Lots of busy work, like basically all busy work. mandatory attendance (15% of grade) lots of group work.
Prof. Gonzalez is great and clearly loves to teach. The schedule of assignments is the same every week, so there's never any surprise assignments. The reading quizzes are pretty heavy but as long as you at least skim everything, you'll be fine. There are group assignments too, but those are still pretty easy + you can be exempt from the exams!
He has the same assignments every week, just adapted to each module. It's not difficult, just consistently required work.
Such a fantastic professor who is very passionate about what he teaches. I think some people assumed the class to be "easy" since it's an introductory course which maybe is why they weren't ready for the work he gives (even then, the work is easy). Just do the readings and you'll be okay. Attendance is only mandatory on Friday's. Take his class!!
Lectures are so boring and not a single soul in the lecture hall paid attention even though attendance is mandatory. Course is pretty easy overall just do all the work on time. No final just 2 exams and you can exempt out of them if you do good on the homeworks and online quizzes. Group work every week that isn't helpful at all but is mandatory.
Dr. Gonzalez was one of my favorite professors this year. The homework is heavy, but it's very straightforward, and if you average an A on quizzes and writing assignments, you exempt the tests. The writing assignment grades are based on your TA, but overall, it's such a good class to take!
Gonzalez is snarky, and very unhelpful if you have an issue with grading or the course. Good thing is that there are so many grades, one or two zeros won't kill you. It's pretty much a guaranteed A, but there are better courses out there to fulfill the culture requirement.
Everyone who said this class was difficult is wrong. it is literally so easy, just do the weekly assignments and you will not have to take any exams. ill agree sometimes he is snarky, but only if people ask obvious questions. He is caring, and if you just do the work, you are guaranteed an A.
Graded based on tophat participation. There is a lot of busy work every week (about an hour worth of reading, quiz based on the readings with three attempts, a writing assignment and a group assignment). If you have an A average in the quizzes and writing assignments you can exempt both exams (no cumulative final).
he mumbles off topic so much and talks to himself in the middle of a sentence. doesnt go over the content we read which will be on quiz until after its done and an essay is due every week. also group work every week. he tries way too hard for a class full of business majors who need culture credits
Chill class, weekly lockdown webcam quizes you do out of class and weekly writing assignments. Attendence plays heavy into grade also. If you need the culture credit for Terry then I'd say he is aight, but it is definitely not as free as some people say imo.
Very easy class just a lot of busy work
Professor Gonzalez is fun at first, but he covers only half the content each week before the lockdown browser quizzes. He provodes notes and articles that provode no substance and just force you to memorize random facts. This class has a heavy work load mainly comprised of busy work.
He is an excellent professor, and teaches his class in an entertaining way! It is very lecture and work heavy. Outside of class each week: readings, videos, quiz, assignment, and essay. All his work helps you understand the class though. If you do your work well, you can be exempted from all the exams. He loves questions and expect group projects.
The lectures are pretty pointless and there is a weekly quiz and writing assignment. The entire class is graded by TA's so for your writing assignments you just have to hope you get an easy grader. If you have a 93 average on the quizes and writing assignments you are exempt from any test. You can do attendance from home except on fridays.
