nice teacher, very helpful with homework during office hours and has a good sense of humor...class is difficult but the problems that are assigned are helpful for the exam. try to go to class unless you like reading the textbook
Not a good lecturer. HW is hard. Do your reading. Test material is weird. Shows us cool videos.
Really funny prof the videos are really good, hard problem sets but gives answers in class and during office hours
lectures are good because he talks about his work experiences, uses online lab for homeworks and quizzes and drops lowest exam score
Must take for econ majors, super cool prof
he is helpful and nice, go to the lectures. he tells you all the important stuff and what will be on the exam, grades easy
cool prof, easy grader
I like him, pretty easy going professor. Tests are very difficult, but he has a nice curve. BUT he doesn't teach at all. If you actually want to learn sth about economics he's not the one to choose. Lectures usually last 45 to 50 minutes.
Class was not too bad, I learned a lot. The good thing with this prof is he shows how this stuff works in the real world and how to apply it. I would take the class just for that reason.
very knowledgeable, exams are difficult but nice grader
take it not much better
Really nice, lecture is straight forward
love this prof, really nice but tests can be difficult, focus on what he tells you it will be on the exam
Cool prof. Laid Back in the wrong sense.. U can honestly cruise thru this class and get an EZ C.. But to get that B or A is virtually impossible unless you live/breathe econ. No way to honestly audit ur grade. Text is borderline useless. Econ lab is better than Pro. CLASS exam average = F; dont believe me wait and see. This was supposed to be fun
Nice prof. Class is easy but exams are challenging. stay on top of your game. lecture notes are pretty good and come from the book. You will for sure need the book if you plan to miss class or you just like extra sources.
Good Professor. Subject is HARD and tests are very difficult but he curves and most people fail the tests. As long as you keep up with the homework when it's due and do decent on the test (D or high F), then you should be ok. Ended up with a B when I thought I wasn't gonna pass. (due to low test scores) Take him.
Love this prof. The subject is extremely hard but I couldn't imagine taking it with anyone else. Must take! I got a B+ in the class and thought I was barely going to get a B.
nice guy but writes sloppy. lectures are straight from the book. the textbook used is not written good and doesnt give enough/good examples. they say its a 3 unit class but its really a 5 unit class. online homework has a lot of crap. all you do is plug in #s into formulas. not recommended....
I like this teacher alot...the lectures are straight forward and the tests are based on the lectures. If you come to class you won't get less than a B. If you study, you will do better. Trying to take econ333 with him.
literally bombed the first exam with a 48%. he dropped the lowest exam score. alot of case study and homework, but the points help out in the end. definately keep up with the work and you should do fine. exams are a bit overly hard so do your best on them cause the other points will save your grade.
do all of the homeworks, come to class and participate and you will get an A
Great guy he is on top of it, coming to class will boost your grade up
Tests were HARD and the material covered is very confusing. Supply and Demand to the extreme involving equations that were confusing. Didn't do well on the exams but after hearing everyone else's scores, I was golden. That being a 60% or so. Thought I wasn't going to pass but curved a lot so overall class wasn't failing. Ended up with a B.
Reviews are right on...hard class but good teacher. I recommend it and from most of the people I talked to grading is on point.
Not an econ major so this was challenging. I read every chapter, did all the practice quizzes/hw/tests. Prof is cool & super hot. Don't miss class b/c he will give easy pop quizzes which helps your grade. Loved that he utilized the online portion of the book. Very helpful and convenient. Got an A- in the class.
He uses connect for the homeworks. Lectures are helpful to learn the material. I got an A- and never opened the book. He will go over the problems if you ask him too and exams are straight off of connect.
He is funny in a sarcastic way. He talks pretty fast and goes through the power points in class. He gives a good outline on what be on the tests, but you will need to study to do well. I recommend him.
This guy is smart but not helpful at all. No matter how many questions I asked in any different way, he would give the bare minimum of information. He makes you feel stupid and helpless, and for a 200 level class, the workload is way too intensive. Overall his class is horrible and unnecessarily stressful.
lectures are helpful for the exams, if you take notes you will get an A, cool videos and the homeworks are all online
Covered one chapter a week with homeworks due every week. He usually goes over hw at the beginning of class and then starts on the next chapter. It isn't outrageously difficult but be prepared to be challenged. I studied for a week before the exam and got a 85%.
good class goes by fast going to take econ333 with him
Too many homework to do. My friend taking Econ 310 with other professor does not do any homework at all. Is is fair?
Fun class and wants you to learn ;.generous grader
He expects people to know what he's talking about. If you want to learn the subject don't take hime because I didn't get much out of it. I pretty much had to teach myself the material.
Prepare yourself for a tremendous amount of work if you want to take this class with him!! His a knowledgeable great guy with Phd in Econ and knows what he's talking about, but the amount of work is just more than what you expect! Tests are pretty hard as well, but he curves,,,Overall he's okay among others!
Terrible teacher. Amount of work required to pass is ridiculous. Easy material though (repeat of past econ classes + few extras). Take a different prof if you can. NOT WORTH IT. Teacher is also rude and impatient to students.
This was a fun class, we watched some cool videos. Class is hard but I heard it always is. Helped a lot during office hours and lenient on the grading.
Challenging class but I found it very helpful for my major. Structure is Homework/Paper/3exams/Final. He dropped one of the exams which I thought was very nice and it helped my grade a lot.
I got a B+ in the class and am very happy. The concepts are easy but the math is difficult. Refresh on your calc before taking.
Class is set up as 1 homework per week, and a group paper that is about 5 pages. Homework problems are from the textbook.
Cool guy. Attendance isn't required. Great amount of knowledge and conveys it well to the class. 3 tests, hard. Online homework, easy. Group project, hard. Case studies, easy. Would recommend him. Book is "required", i never used it.
So far class is pretty easy. We use connect and exams are straight from lectures.
Be ready for his class. A lot of homework assignments, 2 online assignments per week and one of them can take 3-4 hours to finish! If you will take his class team up with 2 other students to study well. There are about 10 case studies and one writing assignment. Advice, you better be a full time student & if you work full time don't take this class
Very bright guy, I would take another class with him. you better make sure everything is submitted on time
If you are looking for an easy A class, do not take this professor. His class was unorganized where a lot of things planned did not occur or was rushed. His exams are also confusing because his study guides are confusing. There is also a lot of work and a group project that was also very confusing. Avoid if possible.
Definitely avoid Professor Gurtovoy if possible. Don't get me wrong, he's a cool guy, but this class is a nightmare. Easily the most work I've ever had for any single class, and the professor is very unclear. He doesn't even know what he assigns. At one point I asked him about what he had assigned, and he said he didn't know. Cool guy, awful class.
Got an A in the class. Didn't think it was bad. All assignments and due dates are posted online don't be late
pretty easy would definetly take it again
This guy is truly useless. Can't really teach. Material is easy to understand if you read it but he seems to try and make it more confusing/difficult in lectures. He's unorganized and comes off as condescending/rude. He's a professor, not a student or friend. Not attending lectures for him to be my buddy.
Took this class online over summer so it's a shortened 1-month class. Wow. Expect to read 3 chapters each week, do 2 assignments per chapter, and a quiz at the end of it all each week. Plus we have a 10pg paper due at the end. I'd recommend not taking this class over summer. Might be better if it's spaced out over a full semester.
fun class would take it again
Easily the best online course I have taken. He gives a ton of information to use to learn the concepts. He also gives unlimited chances to get a 100% on the homework which is encouraging.
Easy class, every thing is online for you and posted in advance.
Easy passing, even if you do bad on the exams, he does a giant curve at the end... GIANT! good amount of work, exams are loosely based on what he says will be on it.
I have a lot of respect for him. He is the only teacher that will ask if you understand and reminds you of big picture ideas.
easy class, just attend and ask questions
Good Class, would take it again
fun class planning on taking econ 315 with him
Very interesting class
I got a B+!! Loved this class, grades usually are posted within 24 hours, gives you plenty of help for exams! Go Dr. G!
Exams are very similar to practice and assignments. Essentially follows the syllabus....
Does his best to get class involved but does not engage class. Be ready for a lot of reading and his assignments are pretty lengthy. Test are all multiple choice and are moderately difficult. One project that majority of time in second half of the semester was dedicated to. Offers help but can be somewhat confusing in his explanations.
Solid class. I took it at night so everyone was pretty quiet but he got us talking. He gets a sample exam and study guide for every exam. Three problem sets and a project that were graded. No complaints
His class is not interesting. He likes to talk about economic by himself. He provides us study guide and sample questions. Exams are not too hard if you prepare. Be ready for work and you will be fine.
Easily the best econ class I have taken as an econ major. Great examples and stories. More than willing to talk to you and help you. In one class he spent 1.5 hours going over homework from the week before.
Very cool teacher. Uses connect with a couple exams. Mc and short answer. Would take again
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. He taught so fast and always assume you already know everything. Quiz and Exam are hard and most of the questions you have never learn or heard in class. Using Connect. Not sure if he actually reads Connect to see how most of the questions in the homework, quiz and test were not covered in class.
He makes the material harder than it really is. Attendance not mandatory. READ the book instead and if you need any clarification go to the tutoring center. He is USELESS. He is very unorganized. Teaches fast & scribbles on board. Hard to read. If you ask for clarity from him, he'll make fun of you . DO NOT TAKE.
I originally signed up for popp but somehow they replaced his for this guy. His ego gets the best of him. Thinks he knows everything but when you ask him a question, he stumbles upon himself. He says he'll give to the answer later but never does. Tests aren't hard but it's not what you learn in class. Study connect and homework instead.
Great professor very clear in class and helps a lot on the homework. He does a lot of the problems in class with us.
I like the class he always asks if you have questions and goes over everything. The tests are a little difficult but he does give you practice tests which helps. One homework assignment for each chapter online.
Love this class. Helped a lot during office hours and lectures are never boring. 2 exams and the final. We had weekly homework and one paper.
I don't recommend this professor. Assigns a LOT of random work, including homework assignments (Connect assignments, LearnSmart hw, required practice exams), "case studies", group 20-30 minutes presentation, and group paper 20 pages. Completely unreasonable expectations, unorganized, and his lectures are useless. Avoid.
Great teacher loved learning from him would take again. He is willing to work with you on homework if it is too much.
Great prof planning to take 335 in the summer with him. Answered all my questions during office hours. He is very knowledgable
Only 2 online hw assignments per chapter. 4 exams (final is partially cumulative). Exams are multiple choice & he provides practice exams which are helpful but not mandatory. 1 group project (10-20 pg paper split among 5 people). Teaching is not always clear but he is always willing to answer questions. Do the homework and this class will be easy!
Fun class I learned a lot. Homework is online with unlimited attempts. The exams were multiple choice. He said some of them would have short answer parts but he took them off because of the group project. I plan to take econ315 in the Fall with him.
Everything is very organized and given up front, no surprises. Paper, Weekly homeworks, and exams. If you study the homeworks and read the chapters from the book you should be fine for the exams.
it is hard
Great guy and easy to learn from. Lectures are very methodical and he gives a ton of very cool relevant examples. I'm the only one in class that asked questions and he would take time to answer them. The exams are difficult but he gives practice questions to study from. I plan on taking Econ333 with prof G.
Very structured class, follows the book. Homeworks are through mylab with unlimited attempts. Gives study guides and sample exams. Overall I think the class is easy and plan to take ECON315 in the Fall with him.
This professor makes an already interesting class, a very understandable and fun one. Lots of work!! Exams, Homework, Case Studies, Group Project/Presentation. Make sure to do the assignments by their due date or you're in for a night of exhausting work.
Please! avoid this instructor!
Fantastic professor. I am very happy I took this class. I took it three times , once at the irvine campus and failed. The way he explains it makes so much sense and everything is straight forward. I have never had a night class fly by so fast. It is a hard class so be warned.
This professor comes across as a jerk, but he is not. Economics is tough and slackers are usually the ones that end up failing in his class. The exams are difficult but are doable. He offers chances on homework and essays. He also cares about participation.
He is very unorganized. Short notice for assignments and exams. Needs to get it together. Very messy structure of online class.
Worst online experience I've had after 8 courses through the web at 3 different schools. STAY AWAY! I'm serious only take if you have no other choice. He never graded a single item all semester. Very unclear with his assignments and expectations. Sporadic^10. Took a month to put up the syllabus. Please heed my warning don't take don't take!!!!
1 research paper. It ends up being about 8 + pages. There is homework for every chapter also including, quizzes, and tests. He does not help much. HARD FINAL. The overall class is not too hard but the final kills. I did not read the book. He was late on the syllabus and sometimes forgot to email class what is due,and grades nothing.
Attendance is not mandatory but you have to come to class since he gives lots (more than 10) pop quizzes. There are 3 exams, 1 presentation and 1 paper. My group's presentation was really bad, but somehow I still management to get an A-minus. His tests are hard. You have to read and remember concept and very details.
Unorganized and a hard grader. This quarter, he added an extra midterm(3 in total), added 3 1 page Case Studies(13 in total), and added a group project that required a 20 minute speech and a 15 page write up, all which were not included on the syllabus. doesn't curve, even when many students got Ds. Barely teaches in class+crammed 13 chapters.
This professor set a schedule in Titanium and then completely checked out. Absolutely no communication, save for a few reminder emails. He didn't respond to any emails, either. The material he posted online was not updated from Summer 2015. To top it off, we had to pay to take the final online instead of taking it in a classroom. Very frustrating.
Awesome Professor! Very hard class & lots of homework & a group project but very fun professor too! Make sure you don't miss any class & don't let your work pile up! You'll never be bored. His lectures are so interesting & you'll learn a lot. He's also a very nice & understanding person. Best professor I took at CSUF! He's such a gem!
Worst professor I've ever took! Very unorganized, doesn't explain the concept well. If you ask him "why can't you do this or that?" His answer, "you just can't." Doesn't even write what we're solving for which makes the notes very hard to understand. Gives tons of homework. Emailed "study guide" the day before the exam which wasn't helpful at all.
Homework is a lot. Do not lag and only worth 10 points. Keep up with reading, test is reading, lectures and homework. 3 exams, 1 final. Group project, 10 pages with group, 10 pages by yourself, and group presentation, LOT OF RESEARCH! He is helpful and if you just listen and take good notes you'll be good. It's just a lot of work.
Unclear grading criteria. Unorganized, not all assignments are on syllabus. Read the book for specifics, but the lectures and tests are very conceptual. Cannot memorize and pass, must understand concepts and think differently than homework suggests for tests. Very rushed at the end of semester when we ran out of time to complete lectures.
Too much work, too little time. A lot of research.
Took him at csula, the WORST!!!! Don't have many characters to write about how awful he is. All I'll say is this guy must have his teaching credentials taken away. I am VERY disappointed at csula's finance department for hiring this guy.
One of the hardest classes I've taken In my 4 years of college. Lots of work. Managing the course load is essential to passing, especially if you have other classes. I learned a TON in this class. If you come to Professor Gurtovoy for help, he will help you. Show up to class, go the extra mile, and you will pass.
Lectures are entertaining, but do not reflect the amount of additional information you need to know. Therefore, you MUST read the textbook. Lots of reading and studying. Tests are a bit difficult. Semester long group project, 10 page research paper, and lots of homework due on exam day. The class is doable, but do your best not to procrastinate.
I had him for both econ 333/335 at the same time. Cons: TONS of work. 10 page journal, 20 page paper, weekly homework, presentation, Cumulative final. This class almost made me hate my own major. He is VERY vague, unorganized, and sometimes rude. Pros: curves final grades
Tons of reading & hw questions from the book & tells us don't follow the book cuz its wrong. Then "why are you assigning it to us?" Sent in a sub for ALL tests except the final. That shows how careless he is cuz he thought it would be a waste of time for him to show up, sit, & just leave. While we had questions during the test. No Help!!
Pretty cool guy. I had him for ECON 333 and 335 at the same time. He is very knowledgeable in economics and finance, i recommend getting to know him, i definitely learned a lot by talking with him outside of class. There is a 20 page paper due at the end of the semester but you're just applying everything you learn in class. Quality over quantity!
Cool Professor. Study the material along with the practices he gives you and you'll be good. He's fair and wants his class to learn.
Do all the hw & good on group project . YOU will pass.
no good. do not recommend.
The professor did not care about students at all, went over the material very fast letting the students do most of the job on their own. He posted sample tests and solved them in the class but the actual tests were heavier. LOTS OF ONLINE HW AND QUIZZES. Final was super hard (bc of mass shooting threat on Campus was online and not multiple choice)
Too much work for any class, took it online and the work load was more than my other classes combined. Online and textbook assignments required which took around a couple hours each to complete; repetitive and pointless.
I highly recommend Professor Jason. He was really caring and willing to help me get through his classes. If you don't care, they don't care. There is a lot of homework, but if you are sure to do it all, you show up for class, and try your best you will pass his class. I took him for both lower levels Macro and Micro econ, and would take again.
Homework is very reasonable and all due the day of the test. Lectures were quite good, he knows his stuff. He doesn't demand total mastery of the material he just expects a fair amount of understanding. Tests are multiple choice but the final has a written section. Takes a while to respond to emails, but overall good professor.
Too much of a workload and terrible lecture materials.
I've taken three classes with Prof. Gurtovoy, 1 in person and 2 online. He's a great dude and really cares to help out. I would suggest taking him in person, however the online work can be helpful as well as long as it is taken seriously. Really appreciated my time with him.
