He is a really cool guy! I would recommend him because he is really nice and really smart. He teaches you many helpful hints and is great at teaching!
Doesn't care if you understand, goes to quickly for some people.
This guy knows math, I will give him that but that doesn't mean he is a good teacher. I mean he is the TA for my calc discussion but he is so boring, and comes up with the stupidest jokes. Doesn't really help, but the only reason i go is because of the stupid projects (which he doesn't go over) and stupid surprise quizzes. I wish he wasnt my TA.
Jason is very nice, willing to help you out, and he really knows the math. His examples and analogies make the abstract concepts easier to understand. Quizzes are also very easy if you pay attention to his pet topics. Grades projects/free response exams fairly. I couldn't have done well in this class without him!!!
Really cool! Very nice and always willing to help you!
Awesome. He is in love with math which makes the class easier and less boring. Go to his office hours, he is very willing to help. DO the HW and study, even if the HW isn't due/collected. It helps on tests. Do HW before lecture/discussion. It helps. Lee Rainey(TA) is ok, but makes alot of mistakes.
He is such a cool guy! I love going to his office hours because he is so helpful, especially before quizzes. He is very passionate about his profession, which makes him WANT to teach us. I really enjoy sitting through his class and I leave with a thorough understanding of the subject.
The class is easy as long as you go to it and not afraid to ask for help if you are confused. This teacher is always more than willing to help you and helps you to understand the material. I would recommend this teacher to anyone.
Wonderful teacher. His class may be a little boring at times, but he makes sure everyone understands and is more than willing to help you whenever you need it. I highly recommend him for any class. P.S. he says ALOT of corny jokes
The thing you have to understand about this class is that if you're not naturally gifted in math, you're going to have to work hard. Prof. Harrington is probably the best math teacher I've ever had. His passion for the subject makes you want to learn the material. As long as you do the HW and go to his office hours with questions, you'll do fine.
Jason was probably the best Math teacher I have ever had. He has a passion for the subject and did a good job in helping to visualize the material that was taught. His class is hard however. If you don't study and practice, you will have a tough time, but if you keep up with the class there should be no problem getting a good grade.
I'm so glad that Harrington was my lecturer instead of Smith (course coordinator). He gives you tips on how to study, and he explains things well. Plus he would get most of the notes done unlike Smith who is always behind. Remember to go to his office hours before exams!!
Teaches way better than the other calculus professors. He is very enthusiastic about the subject as well.
The class is very hard because he goes WAY too fast in lectures. People are too busy writing down the lectures and as soon as they look up, he's already on to the next page. He'll explain things very quickly as he goes through, but not slow enough for anyone to actually comprehend. Quizzes and online homework and way more difficult than expected.
Good lecturer, but writes everything down in long sentences, not fitted for math. Uses very confusing sign charts. Messy handwriting. Other than that, he is ok.
Went too slow in class with notes and skipped everything. Wrote down everything confusingly and spent 20 minutes doing basic algebra in class. The new textbook is useless and this class is super unorganized because of it.
Dr. Harrington conveys the information clear and has a lot of passion for the material. He is very smart. Exams aren't bad. Go to class and TZ, and it won't be hard to get an A.
I don't know what you guys are talking about. Harrington's a pretty decent lecturer. Well, if you never took calc before, then it may take some time to getting used to. But he was very clear in explaning concepts. Go to his office hours before the exams! It surely helped me!
If you are the kind of person like me who is not that great at math and needs a teacher who is clear and to the point, this is the worst possible professor. Harrington goes really fast and does not explain the concepts in a simple and efficient manner. In addition, his tests and quizzes are really difficult.
Great teacher. He goes fast, which takes some getting used to, but I learned to keep up. Yes, there's a lot of homework, but you need the practice to understand the material and do well on tests. Great sense of humor and a nice, grounded person if you get to know him outside of class. Show him that you're putting in the work, and he'll help you out!
Great teacher, great guy. He obviously loves learning and teaching and will do his best to make sure you understand the material and all of its possibilities. Do the homework and keep up with it. Do not be scared to correct him if he makes a mistake (he is human afterall) and if you don't understand something: ask.
Dr. Harrington is the best professor I ever had for math. Cares about his students and always willing to help. Cracks jokes here and there that are pretty funny. Very knowledgeable and happy to teach the subject.
Dr. Harrington helped me get a good grade in this class. He is funny and it is easy to understand him. I did not use study edge for this class, he really explain everything well. The only annoying part of his class was the group projects, but they were still not that bad.
Professors a cool guy but he makes material a little than it should be. He pretty much only teaches in examples, rather than defining most things. Exams arent too bad, but Study Edge pretty much a must because it simplifies everything, and the Study Edge guy, Marty, actually knows how to relay the information.
Initially the class was difficult and required a lot of studying to get a good grade. I didn't to my best in the first exam so decided to use Study Edge as a tutoring supplement to help me. After using Study Edge I was able to do well on my exams to the point where I ended with an "A" in the course. Highly recommend for this course.
Harrington was an alright teacher, but this being a business math class means it couldn't be terrible. Just Study Edge it a few days before the exam and knock out the mock exams they give you and you should be fine.
Prof. Harrington is a nice guy. However, if you haven't taken a math course in a while, I would recommend someone else. He moves very fast, so if you take notes you're more likely concerned with getting everything down than paying attention. Tries to explain the concepts to make it simpler, but complicates it even more than it has to be.
the absolute worst prof I have ever had. I took MAC2233 and had Marjorie Crittenden teach the class instead of Harrington, and it was probably the worst thing I have ever experienced. Be prepared for tons of homework, quizzes, and exams that are not at all like the homework. Use study edge it saved me from having to take this class again.
Exams are difficult, my grades on them were all over the place. Homework all through webassign. Get StudyEdge!!! Lectures very boring. Dropped a few HW, Quizzes, and Participation points at the end, problem was didn't know what my grade was all semester. Final Exam can replace an exam.
He is very clear of concepts. If you did not attend any other calculus class before, it is a little bit difficult because he moves fast. But Professor Harrington tries his best to lead students and he replied emails quickly. All quizzes and homework have specific schedules. If you follow his steps, you will get an A easily.
Professor Harrington is an easy-going professor who is very fair with what he teaches. Exams correlate well with lecture and he gives ample time to complete homework through WebAssign (assignments are usually posted about a week before they are due). I used study edge for this class and found it to be very beneficial, would recommend to others.
Survey of Calculus 1 is a difficult course, but there are many ways to get a good grade. Do well on the homework and quizzes because it will really buffer your grade in the end. Also attendance can strongly impact your grade. Lastly I would recommend Study Edge. It breaks down the course well and makes studying for tests much easier.
You must study and review topics since the final is cumulative, however it is possible to get a solid A. Harrington really does care about you understating material and responds well to questions that you have. His office hours are helpful. Homework 3x a week and 1 quiz a week. Tests are vital to get a good grade.
This class should have been an easy A, it was not. Exams are all through webassign and do not match what problems you are given through out the lectures and review guides. Not a bad professor, gives ample time to finish assignments and is understanding. Exams were awful.
No way I would have passed on my own. Went to his office hours because he does a horrible job of explaining in lecture and he was arrogant. Study Edge saved my butt highly recommend for this class! Overall be ready for many weekly HW assignments and quizzes and a clicker question after every lecture which you need as part of your grade :)
Harrington is a chill guy. Sometimes his lectures are confusing, but usually he does a good job at teaching. If you're struggling, go to office hours!! They helps. Also, make sure you do the past exams he puts online for upcoming tests. They help a ton.
I came into this class scared because I hadn't taken a math class for over a year, however Professor Harrington explained concepts clearly, provided excellent examples similar to test problems, and gave an adequate amount of EC, homework/quizzes (which really do buffer the grade at the end!) Do all the work, and watch every lecture, online is best!
The class isnt too difficult. The homework is extremely tedious and is nothing like what is on the quizzes or lectures. Hes a funny guy but I didnt find his lectures helpful at all. I only attended until I got the maximum amount of participation points. Exams are very fair. If you do well on the old exams you should be fine on the real one.
There were 3 exams, Webassign homework, and a cumulative final. The homework varies in difficulty and is nothing like what is on the exams, but it isn't worth too much of your grade. Lectures aren't too important and he posts the videos, but he does at least one clicker question each class. Study the old exams he gives you and you will be solid.
Harrington was a pretty good lecturer, but spoke a little too fast and sort of made some concepts seem harder than they really were. Exams are almost identical to previous ones, so study those. HW is harder than exams sometimes so don't freak out. My discussion quizzes were basically the NYTI sections. Concepts were kept almost rudimentary, easy A
Class was pretty easy for me, he presents most topics well but others can get very confusing. He likes to make corny jokes so get used to that. Don't need to read the textbook.
Really understands how to teach the material - homework was helpful with examples.
Dr. Harrington is a good lecturer who really seems to know what he's talking about. It is true that the homework does not always match with the tests, but that is really not his fault - the school's purchased programs just aren't the best for this class. His lectures are often attention keeping, and there is a quiz in discussion section every week
MAC2233 is a hard class, and I did poorly on my first exam. But then I ended up going to study edge. Because of study edge I was able to ace the rest of my exams with their clearer and more interesting teaching approach, and multiple practice problems. Harrington is a nice guy, but Study Edge is a must to get an A in this class.
Clicker questions for participation grade every class. There are about three homework assignments and one quiz every week. I used study edge and his practice tests to study. If you do really well on the multiple choice and okay on the free response you can still get a very good grade on exams. Lots of extra credit too!
This class was next to impossible for me. Unless I had study edge I would literally never have passed. 10/10 would not recommend this class avoid at all costs
He is a great teacher, tries to make class enjoyable. Can get an A with use of Study Edge.
Great professor! Doing very well in the class without Study Edge. Do the practice exams before each exam, helps so much!
Always available in office hours! Im not very good at math but if you practice and get help its very doable.
In the beginning, I didn't really care for Harrington, but as the semester went on I grew to like him. His exams aren't difficult, and if you go to office hours its very helpful. If you take the practice exams and do the reviews he posts online, you will definitely make an A, I was able to make high A's on all exams, and didn't use study edge.
Jason is a great guy. Tries to be funny in lecture and does a good job teaching. Depending on your TA the class can go well or terribly. The quizzes will always get you. Chances are, if you're in Survey of Calc 1, you will want to get Study Edge. Doing the homeworks and Study Edge for every exam should get a pretty solid grade.
Im not a math major but needed this course as a pre-req. Harrington does a good job explaining the calculus; I was scared coming into this course after slogging through 1147 but it turned out much better.
Harrington is a nice guy and a pretty good teacher. Lectures are clear and easy to follow, you just need to keep up with the work to be successful. I heavily relied on study edge for exams, but I got nearly 100% each time.
Go to class and do the homework and youll be fine on the quizzes and exams.
Nice guy and is really there to help students by curving the final and providing extra credit opportunities. He makes you work for your grade though. Lots of online homework and exams are tricky so don't study last minute! He provides lots of old exams to practice from which is helpful.
He really goes over the material and making sure to explain WHY formulas are used and the reasoning for the concept. Go to class for extra points, do quizzes on time, and study for the exams **study edge** and you should be fine. On the exam he provides extra credit questions so make sure to do those even if you guess on them.
I really enjoyed Harrington! Tons of extra credit was offered, the exams were overall pretty easy, however, I am very math oriented. If you study his previous practice exams, you will do fine. Lots of participation points to help further boost the grade.
Dr. Harrington was one of my favorite professors. His lectures were not that clear so I used Study Edge and found that it made the class so much easier. The practice tests that Study Edge gives mirror his exams.
Dr. Harrington was a great professor. His lectures were extremely helpful in learning the material and his TA and office hours were a great way to ask any questions you have on the material. I would HIGHLY recommend using study edge for this course, because their video reviews and practice questions are really helpful in learning the information.
Used Study Edge and got an A. Marty, from Study Edge reviewed everything thoroughly and taught everything in a manner that was easy to understand.
Struggled ridiculously hard through this class even with Study Edge. Actual exam was harder than the practice exams.
I worked very hard in this class, used study edge, reviewed past exams, etc and had to drop the class. My math background isnt strong but I was willing to work hard, however the exams were much harder than anything taught during lecture, homework, or the TA sessions. If you arent strong at math I wouldnt recommend this class.
This class can be very challenging if you're not good at math. During lecture, Dr. Harrington was very unorganized and all over the place. While he is funny and enthusiastic about what he teaches, the lectures were almost always useless. I had to teach myself most of the material. He was helpful in office hours, other than that, wouldn't recommend.
Professor Harrington is very passionate about what he teaches, but he did not help me pass this class. Harrington often makes mistakes throughout his lectures and rushes through many concepts that are very important. It is very easy to get lost. If you have this professor, pray you have an amazing TA to help you through the course.
He is enthusiastic about teaching and seems to care, but he won't go the extra mile to ensures everyone success. Dr. Harrington was always behind in lecture and wasted lots of time explaining topics that weren't relevant to the lesson.
Dr Harrington was the best professor Ive ever had. Even though the class was online, he was a great professor and truly cared about his students. I was always able to message him if I had questions. I would recommend him to anyone.
personally, his teaching style doesn't really work with my learning style. He is a very fast pace and a lot fo the learning you have to do on your own and are expected to come to class with prior knowledge of what is going to be gone over today. A fine professor, as long as you're willing to out in work.
Dr. Harrington is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and his lectures were always funny. He holds reviews before tests, and provides resources if he cannot. The course itself was not very difficult, but was not easy either. There is homework due almost everyday. Try to watch the videos and do the reading in each module before the lecture.
Super reasonable exams that reflect the homework. If you have to take this class I recommend you take him.
Lectures were all over the place (nothing was clear or concise), and a lot of the homework/ group projects had unclear directions. However, Harrington is super enthusiastic, and exams were fair overall. Wouldn't choose to take him again, but also wasn't a miserable experience/
Dr. Harrington is pretty funny and chill and makes lectures decently interesting. He cares and will help you in OH. Content is not too bad. Class organization and hw coding could be slightly improved. He is a fair grader and you will learn stuff. Solid choice.
Computer projects are vague and graded tough. Exams are easy. Hes funny but sometimes very awkward, nice in office hours, but doesnt always respond to emails. More work that a 2000 course should be, but not hard to get an A in, especially if you have programming experience. Good intro to python.
Lemme tell you a little bit about this man. He is such a SWEETIE. I literally passed with a C by the skin of my teeth and it was super important to do the homework and go to class, all of which I never did. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to pass, I felt like I learned a lot with him
Would NOT TAKE AGAIN, they says its for beginners but that is FALSE. I feel like I learned nothing and struggled the whole semester and discouraged, if you have programming experience go for it, if not DONT. Prof was passive aggressive and not very helpful. He may have enjoyed lecturing but they were boring, no structure and unorganized in course.
Exams and classwork are reasonable. Watch lectures at home, do assignments in-class and ask questions when needed. Prof is amazing and very helpful, the classroom was super chill. The course significantly speeds up around the second half of the semester so beware.
Not alot of chance for extra credit in the class so make sure to attend class and complete homework. He's funny, but isn't really helpful when it comes to learning and its flipped class so I would get study edge to clear up any confusion. Homework and Classwork is super easy though.
Professor Harrington is great, this class is not an easy A but if you put in the work it definitely can be. The exams could be tricky, the averages were in the C range, but tons of classwork, homework, and discussion quizzes can boost your grade.
I took AP Calc AB in high school but taking this class was a good refresher. He was not the best lecturer and I would never really listen. His packets did help somewhat, but Study Edge exam reviews are what really helped me get an A in this class. It was definitely a lot easier to understand and they showed us topics that would appear on the exams.
I found the content of the course disorganized. The exams were FRQs (no multiple choice) and unlike the homework. The homeworks and computer programming projects are simple but I don't think they really help for the exams because for exams he expects us to do proofs.
Overall I enjoyed the class but going into it with no programming experience was tough. He also is inconsistent with giving exam reviews. Group projects were weren't too bad but sometime felt beyond the scope of what he taught. Attendance isn't mandatory but he often tells you exactly what's on the exams so it's very beneficial to go.
He is very funny, specially in the small class settings. I highly recommend him for the higher level courses, not for the beginner courses. Also, he dives deep into obscure mathematics, so if your are into that you will enjoy him very much, if not, you will suffer through the semester. He does explain well and is very god at answering questions.
Harrington is an interesting and funny guy, and very knowledgeable of the subject! I did feel like his lectures were a bit disorganized or unplanned at times. But he explained the stuff that is important well, and always told us what was going to be on the exams. Some group projects were a bit hard, but put in the work and you'll pass.
I loved Dr. Harrington! Very passionate about math. He has a flipped class, so you do worksheets in class with a group and watch lectures and do Xronos for homework. Attendance is mandatory for the discussion classes (once a week) only, but the weekly quizzes can be pretty hard depending on your TA. I had Chi Ding, and his were hard.
Dr. Harrington was great for calc 1! He is very passionate about the subject and always willing to help. The class was a flipped style, so we had to watch lecture videos outside of class and then complete worksheets as a group in class. Attendance was only mandatory for the once a week discussion period, where we would have a short quiz.
Cool dude, but his lectures are kind of repetitive and almost identical to what's in the textbook (which was free and linked). Group projects were either medium difficulty or insanely hard, no in between. You can ask him for help and he might give some direction, but not a lot. Has a tendency to say exactly what will be on the exams during class.
Lectures are hilarious and he is a great professor. He was easy to understand and made grading criteria very clear. Dr. Harrington is also easy on the eyes.
I took MAD2502 with no prior programming experience so I was learning Python for the first time and he made it pretty easy. There are three group projects that are all fairly simple and a group final project that you spend about the second half of the semester on. He's a funny lecturer but gets off track easily so be prepared to teach yourself
Man I loved this professor. Easily one of the best within the CISE field at UF. What a legend. I haven't had an instructor that made learning new math concepts this engaging and explained this clearly since one of my fav professors I ever had back in Calc 2. Extremely nice, accommodating, and great teaching. The kind of math prof you hope you get.
Not many assignments with each also having a decent amount of weight. The grader can be very nitpicky and dock you points, so you must be extra careful. The professor is decent but gets off-topic sometimes. If you have Python experience the first 3/4 of the semester should be a breeze. Make sure you pick final group project members wisely!
Dr. Harrington's lectures are easy to follow and he posts his notes on Canvas after class. If you're a math major/minor, this class is ridiculously easy. No proofs, and the most complex math done is Taylor polynomials. If you have never coded before, you can skate by in this class. There are even themed exams (our final was Star Wars themed)!
Dr Harrington is a really fun and easygoing guy. His exams were not particularly difficult, especially with him telling you exactly what to prepare for and common mistakes. Overall just a really great guy and effective teacher, would recommend taking any class taught by him.
Very caring professor, gives amazing hilarious lectures. I had an extremely busy senior semester and asked him for extension for multiple hw and prep exams, and he kindly granted them to me. The course material is tough, numerical analysis is never easy, but he tries his best to make it look easy. highly recommend him for this
Dr. Harrington cares for his students and does whatever he can to explain the difficulties of programming and calculus 2 topics in one course. While the grading is difficult from his TA, I found many times when simply reaching out would be quickly responded to with a clear explanation of what I didn't understand. Enjoy his 70s sense of humor!
Took the flexible learning course and really enjoyed the class over the summer. The video lectures were informative, and the homework assignments really helped me grasp the concepts. A few times I had to seek help via YT math channels, but overall the online HW was what really helped me fully understand and was able to do pretty well on the exams.
Professor is very passionate about the class, and that translates to his lectures. He's funny and uses real-world examples which helps a lot. Prior to each exam, he clearly states what you'll be tested on which makes studying more streamlined. With homework, they can be exaggerated compared to what you're actually tested on, but they are helpful.
The lectures are in-person but definitely worth attending. Topics are explained clearly and we're tested on what we're taught. The homeworks and exam reviews were helpful too.
Super funny and made class enjoyable. Fair grader with not super hard exams. You can tell he enjoys teaching and helping people learn. Would absolutely take another class from him, it was a joy to show up to.
Harrington's class is a mixed bag - lectures can be disorganized, but he explains key topics well. The group projects range from easy to quite challenging. Attendance is highly recommended, as he often previews exam content. unstuckstudy was helpful for study prep.
Dr. Harrington is one of my favorite professors at UF. His class is really interesting, and he's very knowledgeable about the subject. He's also helpful and responds to emails promptly
He's is a great professor and always makes the classes fun and interesting. Would for sure take him again.
Amazing professor. Material is dense and most of us were pretty intimidated by writing the proofs but he made it seem doable and explained everything very well. He incorporated fun mathematical legend stuff into every lecture and they flew by because honestly they were pretty fun. He cares about his student and is passionate about the material.
Such a fun professor, he dressed up in a Batman suit during covid Calc 1 lecture. Best professor at UF
The time commitment is very minimal since the proofs were very easy, and exams had buffer points (over 100% was possible). The way he took attendance was fun because he made us answer a question rather than make us say "here." The only thing I disliked was the group homework since I found collaborating annoying. But the way he grades is very clear.
Dr. Harrington was great. You can tell that he is extremely passionate during the lectures, and he truly teaches what he enjoys. Very willing to help when I asked! There are not a ton of assignments for the class. The Capstone project is time consuming and will make up a very large chunk of your grade, but he communicates this very early on.
