Great guy to talk to after class..Understanding. So easy if you listen and do your work! Got an easy A
Amazing professor, that is very willing to work with you. You should take him for your ISP 200 class.
do NOT take him for sophomore seminar! it was way over my head, and i'm not a dumb student. he's relatively helpful after class, but expect to read his book and learn all about cosmopolitanism.
Great Professor, not an extremely hard class, and best part attendance isn't required.
Not a hard professor. Very systematic. A fair grader, whatever you input, will you get out. Alot of reading, one quiz, one midterm exam, some discussion notes and one final essay. YOU will learn alot in this class.
Very bright man, does not impose his own beliefs on students. Goes off on tangents (unclear). He doesn't know how to teach to an average student's level of phil. understanding. Tests are hard. You will learn a lot about the subject and your own beliefs.
It was so incredibly hard to stay awake in his class. Hard grader on papers, difficult exam, but very smart.
ahhhhh do not take!
This class wasn't too bad. The topic material isn't really something I'm interested in, but I did enjoy class. If you show up to class and pay attention then you don't really need to do the readings. He goes over everything that will be covered on the quizzes.
Prof. Hill is friendly, helpful and full of energy. He is just out there to get the students to socialize in class. If you like to sit in a class and not talk, I wouldn't take it. If you love to participate, go for it. I am a philosophy minor and it was great to read his book
He is such a nice guy. He follows a philosophy of true love for humanity as a whole, and this is what his ISP 200 class is based on: moral cosmopolitanism. He cares about your success and will help you. Very easily approachable. Class discussions are hot. Very intellectually stimulating.
He is smokin' sexy. Dresses really well. . smells nice, too. Quiz/Final questions are hard, though I went to class about 50% of the time and got an A-.If you are a good writer, you'll do fine. His discussions are reminiscent of a Q&A with an author at Barnes and Noble. He also teaches over avg.level
althought philosophy is not very interesting, he makes it fun with awesome dicussions and a cool accent! he dresses well and speaks articulately, and we got to have a party the last day! who wouldn't want to get **** in philosophy class?? awesome teacher. got an A+ on the midterm, u just need to know ur****
He's AWESOME. His class was hard because I couldn't understand what he was saying, he uses BIG words that you try to skip that sentence & pick up from the next, but you can't. He's EXTREMELY intelligent & very easy to approach. There's only one midterm, final, & quiz. There's weekly discussion notes as well. Yes we had a party. He's so nice.
i had a hard time understanding the concept of philosophy.. i still do but thanks to him i somewhat understand it more. cool guy. really fun teacher. some of the time he's hard to understand but you have a party at the end of the semester.. that was FUN!! take him :) i got a B+.
honestly he is a nice teacher and knows what he is talking about. but he talks to his class as if he will be talking to a group of philosophers! his test are difficult and he doesnt return emails. if you are not a philosphy major, dont take him!
He is awesome! He is always offering to help students understand. Even if he has to break it down into steps sometimes. Really gets the class engaged with learning the material. He understands how to approach each topic and relate it to society. I would definatley take him again!
A very talented and knowledgeable individual. Very proper I might add. If you want to do good, definitely participate in class and if you still don't get it, talk to him about topics at hand after class because he is always willing to explain something to you
nice teacher,very helpful..midterm pretty easy..FINAL IS HAAAARD!!!
Pr.Hill is a very knowledgable teacher. His knows what he is talking about but I have hard time to understand him sometimes because he uses hard vocab word when explaining his materials. MidTerm is easy but final is hard.
One of the best professors I've had.He really cares about how students do and he's very helpful.Class requires a lot of work, but if you put in the effort to study and read your grade will accurately reflect your work. He's a fair grader, but this is not an easy class for slackers, you must be willing to work and study.(midterm and final not easy!!)
I absoultely love Professor Hill. :) He should be director of Philosophy. Seriously.
If you put real effort into the work you do in this class it will pay off. Your grade is an accurate representation of your work and essenstially the effort you put into it. Poor effort will surely lead to a poor grade. Earning an A is much more satisfying than having it handed to you on an "easy A platter". Not a class for slackers but RECOMMENDED
He doesn't explain things very weell, and though I study I still get low grades. Still uses a midterm from 2003!Half of what was on it we never talked about in class (and I never ditch class either). I would never take him again!
yeah hes pretty bad. i have no clue what goes on in class at least 80% of the time. materials are very confusing and he doesnt do a really good job on explaining things. He also gets throw off by student's comment alot. Good to know that it aint just me tho ^^
The syllabus does not have due dates. He attempts to give due dates in class but are never accurate. Does an awful job explaining things, wants students to discuss material, but it is complicated material to discuss without the professor expalaining anything. Tough grader, you really have to like philosophy for this guys class, find someone better
seriously, find someone better......
AWFUL professor. Snotty, rude, unhelpful and unclear. Likes to belittle students. In addition, places material on exams and quizzes that he has never gone over in class. Favors philosophy majors, so if anyone here who has rated him positively is one, that's why. Overall, stay away from this idiot unless you already know the material.
I am sorry, but Professor Hill is absolutely the best professor I have taken!!! It sucks that he is getting terrible ratings, when he is such awesome professor. Yes, the class is challenging, even flat our difficult at times, but if you pay attention, take great notes and study it is possible to get a good grade. I received a well deserved A!
It might have been bad acoustics in the classroom, but I found him hard to hear/understand a lot of times. Still, he's got a good relaxed approach to the class and is a fair grader. Doesn't overload students with work. Just 2 tests and a paper. Was fine for me.
I've had Hill for several classes and I recommend him. If you do the reading and keep up with the syllabus you should be fine. He's also available to students if they need help in the class. He makes himself available during office hours. One has to work hard to fail his class.
This guy is smart, insightful and very easy to listen to and understand from in class. He responds well to those who engage in class but I didn't say a word ever and he didn't judge or punish me for it in grading. I would definitely take another one of his classes.
Dr. Hill is amazing. Seriously take him. He treats his students as equals and creates an environment that fosters discussion. He's incredibly kind and understanding both in and outside of class. He trusts his students and respects them and their viewpoints. Not to mention, the man is brilliant. Incredibly intelligent. Take. Him.
Professor Hill was a great teacher, he knew his subject matter backwards and forwards and his enthusiasm for the subject made it so easy to stay engaged in the material that he was teaching. He's willing to work with students until they understand and will answer any question that a student asks. Extremely knowledgable and friendly.
Brilliant man, brilliant professor. By far the best and most intelligent teacher I have had at DePaul.
This was an amazing class, it was a very controversial topic but it was fascinating. Must keep up with all that readings and notes.
Unclear, unhelpful, and nasty attitude when I contacted him by email for help. Do NOT take his course, he is a truly awful professor.
Favorite professor at DePaul in the philo department.
Professor Hill is incredibly knowledgeable and is definitely an expert in his field. He encourages discussion, but he'll spend a lot of time lecturing which, after a while, gets boring. Really relatable & tells funny, personal stories. Always uses real-life examples in his lectures. Very flexible about due dates & assignments. Wants you to do well.
You have to really not try in his class to get less than an A. He wants everyone to get a good grade and will sit with you outside of class to rewrite your assignments. Lectures a lot but they're interesting because he makes them funny.
He loves philosophy, and he loves when students offer their thoughts! You are going to learn alot! Would you want anything else from a class? Although the texts are difficult, if you don't understand something Professor Hill will spend time helping you after class. Unlike other professors he genuinely loves his field and he loves to help students!
We need more professors like him
Prof Hill really cares about his students and is not out to directly give them a harsh grade. His class can be a little difficult as the reading assigned was very dense and the paper topics are quite complex, but he is very helpful with discussing the information in a clear and concise manner.
Professor Hill is a very caring and inspirational person. He tries his best to involve everyone in class discussions and have us enjoy the class. The only thing is he is unorganized at times and unclear with assignments.
Best teacher I've had in my three years of college. I'm a finance major and wasn't expecting to enjoy this class as much as I did. Dr. Hill lets every topic be discussed which promoted deeper discussion
Extremely easy class to pass. Did not seem to care much about us the students. Appeared disconnected.
Worst prof i have had at depaul, does not care about his job, assigns work that seems pointless as it is not discussed. vague prof. avoid at all costs if possible
I actually enjoyed Prof Hill's class initially, but afterwards I became aware of his outrageous views of Muslims, transgender people, and essentially all non-Western societies. He also advocates for the elimination of the Palestinian people. I'm incredibly disappointed/disgusted with this and I would not encourage anyone spend their money on him.
This professor is a deep thinker.
Prof is innovator in his field.
Has a bit of an ego, but keeps his opinions outside of class. Read the texts, talk in class and do the discussion papers. Yes he has said some inflammatory things, so if that truly bothers you look elsewhere. He's an average philosophy professor.
Very tough professor
Toughest professor
He is very difficult and not understanding
Hard Grader and not a good teacher, doesn't explain material well.
Professor Hill is very strict on attendance and has very bad office hours. Also, he's a very hard grader and his teaching style is very different.
Very hard grader!
He doesn't explain the material well and he grades very harshly.
Very difficult, and tough grader!
He is not open to any ideas other than his own
Not open to ideas, very tough grader!
Very tough and strict on grading!
Very tough and hard grader! I wouldn't take him ever again even if I was paid.
I had this professor once and will never take him again. Avoid at all cost.
He is not open when someone asks him to explain a problematic statement that he makes. Please Avoid him at ALL COSTS!!!!
Despite Prof. Hill's controversy, his class comes across as exceedingly normal and predictable besides a handful of alarming comments. He is non-confrontational and does seem to make an effort to keep his opinions out of the classroom. Only 3 grades, and heavy discussion.
I should have dropped this class as soon as I saw that we were reading Ayn Rand. Aside from his ridiculous, antiquated views on various social issues (look at his twitter for instance), he talks in circles, allows certain students to dominate discussions, assigns pointless busywork, and favors students who share his perspectives. 0/10
I had Prof Hill before he became more well known for his controversial opinions. Class was completely mundane & forgettable. He rarely showed up for class, emailing 20 minutes after class started that he had a migrane and wouldn't be able to come We maybe had class about half the time. We were only graded on 1 final paper, and everyone got an A.
Professor Hill was one of my favorite philosophy professors I've had. Our course covered existential topics and he opened my eyes to a library of different authors I'd never read both in relation to philosophy and not. On top of that he lent the discussion to everyones opinions and often let the students take the reins. I had a blast in this class.
Great prof
Professor Hill is a very intelligent person but he is not open to criticism or pushback from students on perspectives that he does not agree with. He claimed he would be neutral during class discussions/debates, but he would get very defensive towards students who held views that opposed his.
Jason Hill is the worst prof. I have ever come across. His class had absolutely no structure, despite his repetitive claims that it would. Weekly assignments were pointless and never given grades, students led the entirety of class time, and he refused to use D2L. I learned nothing except that he's transphobic and extremely defensive. Total waste.
Professor Hill's 'Love, Hate & Resentment' class was very interesting, I learned a lot and the books assigned were extremely thought provoking and cool to read. His class consisted of class discussions through zoom, 1 midterm paper and 1 final paper. He doesn't use D2L at all but he was a great professor and so accommodating and helpful.
No doubt the worst professor I have ever had. My class had a total of two students in it, and a third joined that he himself recruited. Hill and his recruit spent nearly all of the next few classes using each other as an echo chamber and not taking other student's input. Complete waste of time, avoid at all costs
Super interesting reading- I bought two of the books. Two essays, if you explain yourself thoroughly you will get an A (even if you don't meet page #). Every class was discussion, but it was online and no one participated. He is a very kind, understanding, thoughtful man with funny stories.Easy to talk to. Love him, but wouldn't take online again.
This professor was so kind and genuinely cared about his work. He makes existentialism easy to digest and was just a great guy overall. If I had any more credits left to take for philosophy, I would most definitely take him again. Read the books, participate in class, and it will be fun! He only graded on three things participation and two papers
LOVED this class! Attendance mandatory (3 absences) & weekly un-graded readings+ discussion questions & 2 papers. Participation matters bc class discussions are the basis of his lectures. Fantastic class discourse & very open to new ideologies despite what others have said. Flexible w/ assignments & the nicest+ most interesting professor I've had!
I think he might actually be crazy and he just decides whatever he would like to teach is what he will teach despite the fact that the material he goes over has nothing to do with the initial description of the class. Easy to pass the tests even if you do not do the readings and attend the class though.
He rambles about nonsense that doesn't apply to the lecture during the lecture. He ended up trauma dumping A LOT. I feel sorry for him.
Crazy amounts of reading per class. Didn't end up finishing because the workload was so heavy. Also this guy is nuts. Claims he wants to have discussions on the reading but ends up going on so many tangents you completely forget the point. Also never gets around to reading everyone's writing despite having a 1.5 hour class on zoom. AVOID.
Avoid taking him. Doesn't use D2L and syllabus is extremely vague, I found myself really confused and stressed about due dates and what he wanted from assignments throughout the whole quarter. Reading assignments are ridiculous, literally assigned us 250 pages in one weekend. Lectures were confusing and didn't relate to all the reading we had to do
Most students at DePaul are aware of Jason Hill's Twitter account, including denial of the genocide of Native American tribes. As for his teaching abilities, Hill seemed to be knowledgeable enough, but often went on long boring lectures. His papers were easy, even though I had no clue what I was doing. He seemed a bit lost, I hope he gets help.
Yes take him.
Dr. Hill is an excellent professor and a wonderful human being. His lectures are engaging, and the reading materials are interesting. Throughout the quarter, he assigns one paper and gives a midterm test. If you go to class and take decent notes, you should do well in the course. I highly recommend taking a class with Dr. Hill—you won't regret it!
I honestly think Prof Hill is a great professor. I am not usually engaged in conversations during class, but i felt myself always talking and engaging in this course and I think he always was very appreciative of the students that would speak. I would take this class again, only two written assignments-midterm paper and final paper. Not long papers
Professor Hill was a great professor. I was nervous going into this course because I had not taken a philosophy course yet, but this class was genuinely interesting and most days he gives us the floor to discuss with each other. The material was genuinely interesting to learn and talk about. Would highly recommend taking this course.
Hill is hilarious, and exactly what you'd expect from a philosophy teacher. Some people in our class never spoke once and probably passed. He doesn't use D2L, all papers are emailed. Class discussions were interesting, and I looked forward to hearing his insight.
After your first class with Jason Hill you will be exited. He seems passionate, seems easy going, and like a fun 10 weeks. After googling him and finding his Twitter you will realize he has offensive conservative beliefs. He's called for the annexation of the West Bank by Israel, denied the genocide of Native Americans, and denounced abortions
