Good teacher, very clear but attendance is required
Ended up dropping his class .... Guessing he was a new teacher so he does not know how to teach. Very knowledgable but does not know how to teach to save his life. tests are VERY hard.... if there is noone else take him. but if i were you i'd stay away
very hard class and he does not make it any easier
If i say he is a horrible professor, it is not fair, he is horrible in teaching,Not personality! I have no idea who can recommend him! I cry after his class. He better to not explain ! He is just not a teacher ! Please don't take him or go and ask his students Horrible teaching method ! You can not believe how easy it could be but he make confusing
So hard to understand, I dont know if he doesnt get it himself ! He can not transfer ! He can solve !!!! Dont take him! You end up hating math !
This horrible teacher has an anger issue!he is very rude. He is the worst teacher I've ever had. No common sense. He does not know how to transfer the information, and he knows the worst way of lvingroblems. Horrible experience. He disrespects students.Dont take this teacher. If he knew how to teach the material, you could just pay no attention but..
I did't pay for this class so I can end up teaching my self the material, but those were the results. He can't teach, and makes the tests hard to "challenge" us. Seriously he's a joke. If you want to challenge us have 1 extra credit problem on the test not have the whole test be a challenge, then you wonder why more than half the class is failing.
He goes through the material very fast in class and doesn't really explan the concepts entirely. He is really helpful during his office hours and the book is good. His tests started out hard and got harder as the semester progressed. He likes to be tricky. You will need to study on your own quite a bit to really learn the material.
Difficult teacher but extremely helpful and grades softly on tests, goes out of his way to help students and is very flexible. Very pleasant person but that class is pretty hard if you struggle with math concepts.
Worst math teacher I have ever had. He didn't help one bit. If you asked a question, he will explain it. But if you didn't still understand he would get upset. He made everything a challenge. The test he gave were hard. He can't teach.
Give this guy a chance. Although some of the ways he explains things are more confusing than they need to be, he will explain it as many times and in as many different ways as it takes you to understand. Very respectful and nice, hard class but if you put in the extra effort, he's not a bad teacher at all.
Hardest class i've took. stats is supposed to be easy but he made it seem like a class at stanford. does NOT teach well and i definitely do not recommend him. AT ALL.
Attendance is required for this class. You can easily get away without buying the book, and while the class is super easy for me, most would beg to differ. He talks at a slightly faster speed which the human brain is supposed to be able to comprehend better and if you take notes it's easy to ace the tests as he lets you use a cheat sheet.
He is very condescending. Do not take him if you are late or cannot always make it to class, he takes attendance very seriously. He also does to make it a friendly environment to ask questions. "This course is a 3 unit course but i make it seem like a 4 unit course. you'll be spending a lot of time doing work for this class" -Jason Hole
I really had a hard time with stats in the past, but he really did a good job. He had quizzes every Monday(11 total), 3 tests, and 1 final. He droped the lowest quiz and test. He was kind enough to allow a cheat sheet on the tests which helps out so much. I learned a lot, and even though it may be a boring class, he tried to make it somewhat fun :)
Dr. Hole is a very well educated professor. He knows his stuff well. He was awesome with our class and very compassionate. The only thing I would recommend for him is to be a little more clear in the lectures and to write more steps. Otherwise he is a truly good guy who wants you to succeed. Put in the time, study, and you can achieve your goal.
This class isn't too bad. If math comes to you then you will hardly need the book. He allows cheat sheets on the exams and goes over the material every class before each quiz.
Professor H is very strict about attendance to his class. You can be late 11 times OR absent 5 times, any more and you will be dropped regardless of your grade. He ensures everyone pays attention in class and understands the material. His quizzes are short and his tests are straight to the point. All in all, he is a very fair teacher.
Strict about attendance and tardiness, however he does drop lowest quiz and test score. He is extremely helpful in his office hours and also stops by in the lrc. Extremely fair teacher.
Dr. Hole is an awesome teacher. This is my second time taking the class and although some people found his method of teaching to be a little more difficult, it was perfect for what I needed. He is very helpful and makes himself available to you for whatever you need. Class is not an easy A, but its second year calculus so it really shouldn't be.
I just enjoy his class.
If you're not focused and aren't a motivated student you will have a tough time, he loves to use vocabulary words. It's all based off test and quizzes so really study for that. I would recommend looking into other professors who are less tough
It's a class you have to pay attention to, and he doesn't help much with his monotony and he's a little condescending. I had to drop because I got so far behind and he just didn't seem that helpful.
Test are super tough especially if math isn't your best subject. Super strict on attendance. Suggest a different teacher.
Did not enjoy this class one bit. I had taken a similar class in high school and was confident in my knowledge but he made everything twice as confusing and don't even think about asking for help unless you want your brain to explode. Very unclear, monotone, quite boring class. Dreaded coming, but you can't pass math without showing up. No homework
Terrible teacher. We all know that guy from highschool who knows it all but doesnt really know anything, just talks untill you give up. Thats this guy. he complicates the easiest of concepts and dont even think about telling him he is wrong about something, you'll be sorry you opened your mouth.
He was incredibly awful. Monotone, condescending, & arrogant. Very strict re: attendance when returning from break. Unhelpful, & confusing. I barely made it through one class, one kid got up and left. I will be dropping ASAP. If you are stuck in his class best of luck to you (especially if you struggle with math) & don't ask him ?s it'll be worse.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He may have a PhD, but doesn't know how to teach at all. He makes the easiest concepts so complicated and confusing. He cares more about attendence than about his own methods of teaching. I wonder why Saddleback has hired such a terrible teacher.
2nd year calculus is a difficult course. the students complaining about him are most likely the students that doze off in class. He gives you answers to the homeworks and quizzes. which means you just have to take tests. He's extremely fair. Just pay attention and invest time in the class and you will see your grade improve.
I never rate professors... But "Dr." Hole is just absolutely horrible. Has no teaching methods and does not care about students at all. Grades tests extremely difficult and tests are completely different than the homework and quizzes. If you want to get a good grade, go somewhere else.
If you take his class expect to put hours into studying the course material in order to get a good grade. He provides study guides and provides feedback on what will be on exams.
I was one of those students who gave Dr. Hole a lot of hell. And last semester, I was ready to deliver the worst review I've ever given. Honestly, he's a great professor, just insanely smart. He is harsh because he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. If you get less than a B in his class, you didn't try. Pick your fights carefully
Dr. Hole definitely makes you work for it, but he explains the material in a way that is much more understandable than other teachers at Saddleback. His tests are composed of a lot of the material from the homework. If you put in the time and do the homework you can do well in this class. He is the first teacher that made math fun for me.
Professor Hole is perfect, just try not to get in trouble and do what he expects and you're good to go!
Really horrible. It's too late for me to drop his class and I always regret coming. He does not know how to teach. I and some others constantly have to explain to the people in the class how to do the problems in less confusing ways. He makes a lot of mistakes when going over problems so he always has to be corrected.
Worst teacher I have ever had. If you can get extra help do so, because the way he teaches is ridiculously confusing. I had this same kind of material in my previous math class and passed that with an A. Professor Hole really just needs to learn how to teach.
If you want to understand mathematics, take his class. He actually walks you through the proofs which helps you to solve any problem - even with missing components. He has endless patience when asking for help - just don't be late for class. My notes from his lectures are golden and will be a solid platform for me to dive into 3B in the Spring.
I personally like Dr. Hole's teaching style. He explains things in a very clear way. I also know what to expect which is typically homework worth 10% of your grade, two tests, and a final. He is a very fair grader and his tests are highlighted within the study guides, leaving little in the way of surprises.
wasn't helpful at all. will mark you absent if you're 2 minutes late to class and will not let you use the restroom unless it's at break, also sarcastic and rude. would NOT recommend this professor!
Definitely avoid! Does not explain concepts well at all and tests are nothing like the homework! Plan on spending hours teaching yourself how to do the homework just to have the test completely unrelated to lecture and homework. Take with Westphal instead, at least you'll understand the concepts from lecture.
Ive taken Dr. Hole one other time in the past, for math 3c. In that class he was truly amazing. This was not the case for math 26. Hole failed me miserably at teaching me the concepts in linear algebra. He answered questions poorly, lectures were unprepared and confusing, and i was forced to do all my learning outside of the classroom.
He's a pretty boring professor. You only have 3 tests and that's including the final. He lets you use a cheat sheet on the exams. Homework was easy and online.
I've taken Dr. Hole's classes before; he is the most organized person I've met. You know from day one what is expected of you and what you need to do to pass with the grade that you are after. He posts a study guide a couple of weeks before the tests, and if you do the questions recommended, then there is no reason not to do well.
I do not know what is the relation between Economics and Mathematics! His BS is in Economics. He has PhD in Math but it does not mean that he is master in all math topics. One of the worst MATH instructor. Rhetoric is one of the most important items that he does not have and cannot transfer information well. Do NOT take math course with him, never
Instructor must be able to answer all student's question. during this semester I saw more and more that Mr. Hole cannot answer the question and students had to give up and ignore and say: Never Mind Professor! Hole is worst..
Do not take this guy ever, he is literally the worst math teacher ever and couldn't teach whatsoever. Test are tough and you won't expect similar subjects on the study guide. IT WILL BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. He may have a Phd in Math, but one thing, he's horrible at teaching. HORRIBLE.
Not a bad teacher. In his lectures, it is hard to understand, so you should read the textbook. You need to be prepared to work hard to pass though.
Dr. Hole is good for a math teacher. Very clear with what material will be covered on tests, and goes over examples of everything you will need to know in class. On top of that, he's always in his office and responds to emails very quickly. You'll have to work to pass, but it's definitely not impossible to succeed.
I had him for Pre-calc. He will answer any questions you have. His tests are tough but fair, you will get the harder problems from the sections on the test. This was a challenging class and I've heard he is not the easiest professor but I enjoyed the challenge and feel prepared for calc. Do the work, study often, and your math will improve.
First of all, do not take a Calculus course in the summer. Second, this professor is insufferable and is the only person I've had to review. His teaching style is more or less straightforward but he's not flexible at all. Due to a family emergency, I had to miss a non-test day, yet he threatened to drop me for hours missed. Avoid & drop.
A great professor, he is what inspired me to continue studying math. I love how he really goes in depth on the theorems and how to prove them. He prepares you well for calculus. His exams are tough, but with a lot of efficient work you should do well.
I have never had to rate bad on a professor, but he was the worst teacher. Im an A student and I recieved a C. threatened to drop me when I emailed him that I had to take a placement test for English, was 10minutes late to class he interrogated me, I had never even missed a class before. he gets upset when you ask questions and doesn't answer them
Very stoic and down to earth when teaching. You must attend every class or he will berate you. Good for a challenge, but also is an easy grader on exams. He gives plenty of partial credit. He will seldom repeat info in the lectures, so pay attention! He is the only professor that teaches the upper division math courses, so stay on his good side!
I'm currently taking his Math 26, and I've taken his Math 3A a couple semesters ago. How well you do largely depends on your ability to keep up on the homework. He always answers questions for the previous class's homework, so you want to attempt/complete the homework before each class. Also, organization is excellent.
Has a bad reputation which can be misleading. Condescending and socially awkward, but genuinely cares about his students and inquires about their life outside of class. If you go to him, he will help you. I HIGHLY suggest making office hours a regular habit. He's a tough grader, but I wouldn't take any other teacher for the same subjects.
Dr. Hole is a great teacher. His lectures are slow thorough and very well structured. He might just be the brightest math professor around. That being said, his tests were the hardest i'd ever experienced. For that reason I was unable to pass his class. I still think very highly of him. His tests were just way to difficult for me.
Lame guy and teacher. Makes class super boring. Tests are pretty straight forward but his lectures are hard to follow, so it was hard for me to prep of the tests
Hes not a very nice guy. His class is structured with 3 tests thats it if you aren't a good test taker get the heck out of there. He has NO HOMEWORK... which is bad if you need homework to pass classes... If your late a few times he will drop you and if you miss more than four he will drop you like he's the not the teacher to be messed with.
Prof. Hole is a great teacher. The homework isn't graded and isn't mandatory to do. If you want a good grade attend all of the classes, write down everything he puts on the board and have a thorough "cheat sheet." You are graded on only 3 tests so study but this class is easy if you pay attention and do a few problems before the test. So easy.
I took this class my first semester at Saddleback, and I was not prepared for such a punishing class straight out of high school. The grade is 60% tests, and 40% final... but there are only two tests. I failed my second test, and I was unable to pass at that point. He seemed uninterested in every lecture, homework is never reviewed or graded.
Overall, Mr. Hole is just an ok professor. He's not the best at explaining the details of a given concept so I recommend him only to those who are already decent in math and can teach themselves if need be. As long as you show up, are attentive, and take diligent notes and actually study those notes then you should be able to do well in the course.
Not a terrible man, just not the best professor. Taking over summer didn't really help either.
I really like Professor Hole this semester. The downside is that the only grade is 2 tests and your final, however he did implement a take home portion to the tests which was helpful. If you need help or do't understand something, go to office hours. He was always really helpful when I went in. This is a hard class but definitely do-able.
The course was more than fair, and the material was conveyed clearly. Test and lecture heavy, but also gives good feedback. Don't be more than five minutes late to class. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Hole.
Professor Hole is well educated about Pre Calculus, however can be hard to follow considering that he goes into depth why we solve a problem that certain way rather than instructed step by step how to do it. Class is derived of three Test; however he grades partially on exams. I recommend the class to students who are strong in math.
Professor Hole is very good in explain the concept. He does not get frustrated when you make him repeat more than twice the same thing. He is very helpful in his office hours. DON NOT BE LATE. Do the homework and pay attention in his lecture and you will be fine on the tests.
You have to move pretty quick to keep up with him but it's a good class. The tests normally don't have the hardest kinds of questions from the covered material, and are only about 7 questions long. Take home portion of the test normally functions as a study guide and ensures your ability to pass the test.
Great professor... If you enjoy retaking classes. Tests are near impossible. Pulled 3/4 nighters before the exams on top of the time i'd spend in the LRC. My highest test grade was an F.
Don't take unless good at MATH
One letter...W as in withdraw
3 tests make up your grade. That's it.
Dr. Hole is a great choice. He knows the material and is active in teaching. However, you have to work for your grade. He does not care if you pass or fail.
3 tests, all 10 questions, that's all that goes into your final grade. Also no make ups. He's a cool dude but be prepared to study for the tests or go to tutoring to pass the class.
He did a good job of teaching. It's more of a, you won't learn until you do it so let's jump right into the lesson. But he also will explain very well. Everything about his class is good, but don't be more than 2 minutes late or he'll call you out for sure.
He's the type of professor who doesn't take excuses. Either you internalize and study for YOUR OWN benefit or you don't. He doesn't care either way. That should be the end goal of all his students. He is very serious at times because he wants you to be serious about education as well. People give him crap for that.
Professor Hole is a great teacher. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. As long as you, show up to class and do the very small amount of homework that is given, than you will do well on tests. Will answer questions when asked
Just tests and the final make up your final grade. Pay attention in class, fair grading, and fair tests. Enganging, funny, and to the point lectures. Would recommend Professor Hole.
Make no mistake, this is a very hard class and Hole isn't a great teacher. He is smart and knows his stuff well, but from interacting with students to his grade system (3 tests only) he unintentionally makes it very hard for students to do well. That being said he is very considerate outside of class and willing to talk (just don't ask for a curve)
This is possibly the worst professor I've had. Idk how he got a job as a teacher, since he doesn't know how to teach. He's smart, but he doesn't know how to communicate his knowledge to others. When he is doing problems, he skips work in btwn steps so you're always lost. The grade is made up of 4 tests, if you want to learn, don't take him.
This is possibly the worst professor I've ever had. He is smart but unable to communicate his knowledge effectively. He skips steps in btwn the steps to a problem so that you're always lost. He goes fast and when you ask a question, he does not explain well. The grade is made up of the tests. If you want to learn, or even pass, dont take him.
The class is made up of 3 tests! There is homework but he only checks 1 or 2 problems from it and they are part go the test grade. His lectures are mainly on the proofs of how to get an equation and gives very few examples before moving to next section. Work with friends to try and understand.
Some may say his lectures are kind of dry, but I found them super entertaining and informative. Took him for two semesters and loved both. I feel like I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hole to any STEM majors who want to really know their material.
3A was tough, homework similar to test. Take advantage of LRC tutoring and dont rely on practice tests for exam just use it as a supplement.
I actually REALLY loved Hole. His class was extremely easy as long as you did the short homework problems. People in my class complained he was hard but of course he was THEY DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH THE HOMEWORK (which is super short). He allowed us to have 30% take home tests. Just do the homework and the tests will be super easy.( Im not a math person)
Your whole grade is based upon two exams and the Final. That's it. Each exam is worth 30% and the final is worth 40%. He skips a lot of steps while lecturing and never gets out of his seat. he only uses the overhead projector. Dont take him unless you plan on teaching yourself calculus.
He had me regretting my desicion of coming back to saddleback from IVC. Worst math professor ever, never had his lectures ready, he'll just use the ebook on his phone to look for examples... Take only if it's your second time taking the class or you're hella good at math, or if you wanna teach calc to yourself. Your grade is based off 3 tests,
Avoid
Really hard class! Your entire grade is based off two test and a final nothing else. Dr. Hole is not very good at explaining things a different way if you dont understand. He is very monotone and at times will randomly start yelling to get a point across. Would not recommend
Prof. Hole's class is not very good- in fact one of the worst experiences in my college career. The material is basic, and he expects you to know what I'd assume every other professor does for Calc. 3A. The only problem is his class is based upon only a few tests and that is it. So you fail a test, and you will not receive an A in the class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM EVEN IF HE IS THE ONLY PROFESSOR LEFT. I have never done horrible in a class, I did horrible in this class!!! He DOES NOT teach. Expects you to know it all by yourself and belittles you in front of the classroom if you ask a question and don't understand!
Prof Hole is a solid choice for Math 3A. He teaches pretty conceptually - will not hold your hand and walk you through how to do each problem. While only 3 tests make up your grade, he offers assignments that go toward a fixed percentage of each overall test grade (super helpful). Attendance and being on time is super important.
Taking Professor Hole's MATH3A class was a huge regret. I have never failed a course in my life, prior to this one. The entire grade is based on 3 tests, which would be reasonable if he actually taught. If this is the only available class left, it's obviously for a reason!
Lmao just a terrible teacher. Dont expect to get an A unless youve taken calculus before. Make sure u study for hours for each test because if u mess up on one of three of your tests even a little bit it can screw you out of being able to get an A. Be ready to do a lot of practice on your own if you want to have a chance at an A.
Hole isn't well prepared for his lectures. Gives a lot of even numbered homework problems where there are no answers and doesn't cover all the answers in class. Didn't allocate enough time for the Final review questions--only 1 hour. Wants u to buy the Saddleback ed. of the textbook even tho the regular edition is almost the same and 1/2 the cost.
Do not expect to get an A unless you study for at least 5 hours per test and have taken calc before.
He doesn't know how to explain concepts, he just barely goes over the basics and then speeds through examples that might've actually been helpful had he taken the time to go step by step. When he assigns homework, there are no answers to refer to unless you actually buy the textbook. CANNOT miss a lecture, have to teach yourself, unhelpful notes.
I myself didn't do well in the class for reasons beyond Jason's teachings. I showed up to every class (mostly), and during that time I felt like I was learning a lot. I failed to take that knowledge home with me, thus why I didn't pass. However, he teaches the course well and is more than happy to help out if you ever need.
Lectures are a bit tiring, so you really have to pay attention. Make sure you keep up with homework and really put in th eoutside work. Otherwise, you will most likely fail.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! NEVER take his class! Attendance is mandatory and part of participation. Im very good at math but the way he teaches makes you think you know nothing. Horrible way of teaching. He will drop you without telling you. Even if he is the last class to take, DONT DO IT!!!!!
Let me start out by saying NEVER take his class. He lectures for two hours straight with a five minute break in-between and usually doesn't let you out on time. He doesn't care if you pass or fail, he is just there to teach. If you're taking this class and actually want to pass pick another professor because he isn't good at all.
worst professor! I'm sure you're looking on here to see if he's a good professor because his class is always the last one to fill up, there's a reason for that. I can't stress this enough don't take his class. He goes thru notes so fast explaining the information needed for problems and just going doing random problems from textbook, not useful!!
He has no emotion behind his teaching. Changed textbooks on us midsemester after we had to pay for the first one. His lectures were copying exactly what is written in the book. Does not accept late homework. Calls out student for being wrong or late in front of whole class. Not understanding or friendly towards students in class or office hours.
Please dont take his class even if its the only one open. I saw other reviews like this and some good ones and thought people just didn't do good in the class. NO, he's a bad teacher. He doesn't care about students or teaching. Most boring lectures ever copies exactly whats written in the book. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE MISERABLE AND FAIL!
Very cool guy. He genuinely wants to see students succeed even though he is monotone and it may not show. Work hard, think smart, do homework, attend class, you will most likely pass. I struggled with calc, but thanks to his tests I realized being an Engineer wasn't the profession to pursue. Thanks Dr Hole...
When the pandemic struck he was very flexible with students during the online transition. However, don't mistake flexible with easy. He is not easy, he is fair. Welcome to the big leagues, calc is not a joke. It will tear you apart mentally if you let it. Use his office hours and the tutors to your advantage. Good luck with calculus.
Dr. Hole is a very helpful and respectable Professor. I took him for 3B and 3C and learned so much. I recommend skimming through the sections before he teaches them to get a good grasp of the concepts. Also going to his office hours and asking lots of questions is key to success in his class. He bikes to class too so watch out for him on the road.
Calc is a hard class Dr. Hole knows his stuff but he has a very dry sense of humor that can sometimes come off as rude. He is not afraid to randomly call people out and roast them if they don't know. Class had 3 test 40% of grade and hw due every day 60% of grade. He only spot checks hw so if you get the only one he checks wrong sucks for you.
Very accessible if you make the effort to reach out. Its 2nd semester calc so the expectation is that you already have a grasp of calc 1. Uses OpenStax book. Lots of desmos and outside the box work required, perfect for STEM majors. Dont expect high school level treatment, hes pretty black/white with grading.
Worst teacher at saddleback, he doesnt know how to teach students period. Puts very little effort.
Made calc really easy. His lectures were so good that it would put you to sleep. Really inspiring professor. Don't call him professor or he might fail you. Only refer to him as Dr.
Rounded my grade by five points. The curve will save you.
Very knowledgeable but is incredibly pompous. There are some teachers who genuinely want you to learn the material. I did not get that vibe from him. He can even be condescending sometimes. There was an air of superiority from him that got in the way of his teaching.
Dr. Hole was an amazing professor! While math is very difficult, he does everything he can to help you out. He is easily accessible outside of class and will match the effort you give to him. If you try hard to learn, he will provide everything necessary. Good dude with humor, people just give him bad ratings because math is super hard lol. Take!
I currently taking this course right now and man is it difficult. All the exams are super difficult and are proctored. The homework is also difficult and he will catch you if you try to cheat, so BE CAREFUL! I just took the final and man did I cry a lot ;(
The exams are not that hard, just proctured. Just make sure you understand the topics in the class, and you will be fine. Pay attention and ask for help when you need it!
Not a good experience at all, doesnt know how to teach, def dont take.
Here's the thing, I like Dr. Hole, he is a cool guy. However, the way the he grades the class is hard. I worked very hard on all the homework assignments, got 100% in that category. On the exams, he gave us only 5 minutes per problem (online) which consisted of 5 to 10 problems. If I had gotten one problem more correct on the exam, I'd have an A:(
Skip! One of the worse teachers I've had at SB. He's so unorganized and unhelpful. A month into the class and he still doesn't know how/when the test will be. Good luck getting a helpful answer, if at all, when you email him. He doesn't care about students. Check the calendar carefully, he will change it. You are better off just teaching yourself.
Dr. Hole's 3C class makes you wonder just why they let anyone with a Ph.D. become a lecturer. His lectures are decently high-effort (he has a good mic), has recordings. However, he is not good instructor. At all. Struggles to answer questions and gets defensive unnecessarily. Took the summer section; 3 tests, 5 quizzes, no curve, unnecessarily hard
I took Dr. Holes class, Math 3B and found him to be honorable.
Dr. Hole did not respond to any of my emails and barely kept in contact with any students throughout the semester. The textbook and lectures were useful, however on exams Dr. Hole would seemingly give it a random grade and not allow students access to them. Take any other professor Dr. Hole should not be teaching at Saddleback.
One of the worse Professors I have ever had. Does not respond to any emails, and has horrible communication. The lectures provide little insight, and the grading criteria for exams are inconsistent and basically unknown. After quizzes are submitted (even reading checks) you will not be able to see what questions you got wrong. Stay far away
screw him. dont take this class pls fire
take any other class
you'll have to learn everything on your own so there is technically no professor! gives you 200 checkpoints each worth 1 point and gives no explanation for why you received a test grade! he grades the final after the semester is over so you have no idea if you will have to use the p/ no p option or w the class! literally horrible
Doesn't give clear answers to questions and is somewhat condescending/passive-aggressive. Also makes homework extremely tedious for no reason.
For some reason gets extremely defensive about everything and is a terrible professor. Never answers questions, doesn't reply to emails if he feels like it, assigns SO MUCH WORK, and constantly regards everybody in such a condescending manner. I don't know how other faculty tolerate his presence, if this is the same way he acts around them as well.
Very condescending and you can see his god complex truly shine through. He is always extremely defensive for no reason and doesn't respond to students' attempts at communication, even regarding questions about content. Definitely doesn't do his job well, as students all around seem to disdain him and his teaching practice. Worst professor I've had.
Jason is disrespectfuly rude. Jason likes to bully students if he finally acknowledges them at all. Jason is an A**#@!& Fire Jason immediately Jason needs to be brought back to reality and humbled Jason obviously is a small insecure person. I wonder why Jason is so mad and feels he must bully and intimidate people? Jason needs a new job. #TheWorst.
I am unsure what this guy problem is. I am easy going student with 4.0 and normally form lasting relationships with my professors as I meet them but this guy seem to have an attitude problem and hate both his career and people who are learning and achieving success. This guy is obviously jealous and bitter due to his lack of success. So sad. Avoid!
Prof Hole made me feel uncomfortable every time we would talk he would either be rude or act very wierd towards me that I am happy we were not in the same room. He would give me wrong info and I was so close at 89% I just got my grade and he marked my test down but will not show me what I missed or why. He is shady and a gross Wierdo and unfair.
Teacher is a Joke. Class is BS. No communication. No feedback or grading given. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! Literally anyone is better. Wish I could say how I really felt but I don't want this post taken down. People need to know how bad a class and professor can be. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Saddleback needs a new online Calc professor, this schmuck sucks.
If you are the type of person that can pick up a textbook and learn calculus, this class is for you. Videos created by Prof. Hole are equivalent to an audio textbook. No examples, no feedback, complete DIY college course. The Openstax text used is riddled with errors so beware. Do not take if you want to learn something or need examples worked out.
I picked him because he was my only option to finish calculus 2 before this fall. There's a reason why taking the course this summer with him was my last option.
Worst professor I had during my 19 years alive. I will never forget this man and what he did to everyone in this class. He never responded to emails and gave unnecessary and disrespectful remarks. He docked points for no reason because he "felt" like it. His ego is through the roof and is the most obnoxious professor I had. Don't take him, please.
Avoid this professor. He will screw you over and destroy your GPA. Takes points away from tests without reason. You cannot view wrong answers after you take quizzes, and therefore cannot learn from mistakes. Writes emails in a condescending manner. Very unprofessional, and clearly does not care about student success and or futures.
Jason Hole is the worst professor I've ever seen. You need to teach yourself everything and he won't help. His exams are very hard and take off points arbitrarily. He won't reply to Any of your emails, after the semester is over and gone forever, and leave you with a B/C. His character Too Bad! Don't take any of his classes.
Its an anti cheat class. So drop ir if u think u can cheat since its an async class. He will ask everyone during different exams to come over zoom and justify their answers. Use chegg and he will catch u in an instant. If u have a tutor for the exms still u need to justify ur answers. So yea its an anti cheat structure.
Should be A-Hole. He would not answer questions. AT ALL! Never gave feedback on work. Scheduled office hours he never shows up. Lazy. Rude. Does not care about his job. I am a woman and he made me very uncomfortable the ONE time I was able to actually get him to respond to me after calling the math office to ask how to get ahold of him. A$$HOLE.
This Professor ruins GPAs for fun. He will not provide feedback when you get something wrong. He talks disrespectfully to students. He is not consistent in his grading. Does not teach lecture. He treats this like passive income, and so the college should really reevaluate if ghosting students is something they want to endorse.
The worst professor I had in my life whole life!! nothing else need to be said.
Good luck with him. He will deduct points even if you do the work just because it is not formatted correctly. His teaching method is one of the worst as it is mostly self-learning. Also, even if he does respond to emails, the response is so vague that I do not know what the fook he is even talking about. I would not wish him against my worst enemy.
I know you are probably taking his class because it is the only online class available. But drop if you care about your GPA because everything everyone says about this professor on this site is true (he might be even worse). Do not be fooled by the grades everyone claims on this site because I am sure it is likely to have been worse.
I have taken this class because it was the only one online. If you are able to learn things on your own then you will be fine. The first few exams are going to be easy and then its going to be weird and hard but doable but the final was extremely hard. Do what you have to do to get an A ;)
i see a lot of reviews saying he is a GPA ruiner blah blah but i honestly think his class is very straightforward. he is involved on the discord, makes videos for each section/week, and has a weekly zoom for review that he uploads to youtube. most of the class is thru the textbook and through vids he makes w/ pretty verbatim questions/processes
He failed me after taking the final because he FELT i cheated in my 2nd exam. Even if I cheated (which I did not) what he did to me was extremely and immoral. He asked me 3 times to justify my answers and i did but since i was the only one who got full points in his 2nd exam he got mad. There is no way to tell who is cheating. this guy is no human
Worst teacher ever.I regret I took him just because being online. He ruined my GPA. He gives you 0 with no reason and you can not see the reading quizzes correct answer and when you ask him for it, he answers unprofessional and rude.I was going to take him for 3C, but I will not. He doesn't care about anything, he is just there to make extra money.
Dr. Hole is one of the worst professors I have ever had the displeasure of taking. His grading structure is abhorrently dishonorable, and he never justifies why points were taken off. He assigns work at random that was not stated in the syllabus, forcing students to do pages of work when no one had a way of preparing for it. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I took 3b when dr. hole was a 1.5 star rated teacher. A surprise final, I got a B I took 3c and now he is a 2.5 star rated teacher. surprise assignments I got a C Professor rarely laughs, a lot of the students are really toxic, glad it was online. they complained away the lockdown browser and sneered. 2 / 3 problems I got 100% I tacked to my wall.
Im still enrolled in this class, but there are group work every week which is graded very harshly, huge freeloader problem. Lectures feel like a text book audio and are difficult to understand. No answer key provided for hw so don't even know if your on the right track.
You need to be on top of things for this class. The lectures provided by the professor were personally not very helpful for me, so I did watch a lot of Youtube calc lectures which really helped. He is very helpful in office hours, so don't let yourself stay confused. Make sure to ask questions whenever your struggling! and work very very hard!
He gives almost no feedback on both hw and test questions and certainly with no elaboration. He's an EXTREMELY tough grader, I nearly perfectly completed a question to the T on the final and he gave me a 4/10 on it because of 2 missing sets of vector arrows on a 2-page problem. Also, exams are 80% of your grade, dropped from 95 to 75 from the final
ended up just doing group work by myself bc people don't care. Test questions were not made to trick you, but you need to study the right things so make sure to really study what he give in the study guide. He is helpful during office hours when you're stuck on HW and I was able to get a lot of clarification. do NOT think of cheating
I took Prof. Hole for 3B in Summer 2022 and had the worse experience of my life. His lectures were awful. He has no regard for his students and is a very tough grader! He's just reading you the book like a bedtime story. He is unhelpful and can get very condescending when you point out any mistakes he made. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
10\10 do not recommend. midterm\final 80% of your grade. Test problems are 10x harder than the study guide. doesn't comment on why points are missing from homework, or tests... you're just wrong. Hand writing is impossible to read during lectures that he writes out on his tablet. Hw is all group work and you cant turn in your own hw.
Dr. Hole is the harshest grader I have ever seen. Everything is graded on written work and he will take entire grade points off for even small formatting mistakes. And if you try to appeal a grade, good luck. He believes he's always right and will use the Zoom meeting to demean and demoralize you. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Going into 3B, I already read the reviews on this guy, so I was expecting the worst. But he turned out to be kinda decent. Lectures were boring, but he prepared us well for the midterm and final, so we really knew what to expect. He offered a lot of extra credit after the midterm to help raise grades too, but imo he wasn't harsh, he was fair.
This teacher is the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. He will demoralize you and prides himself in insulting students. He told me I should not be in his class after I asked him for support. Do yourself a favor and avoid this horrible human. Every negative review is true, trust me, I scoffed at them in the beginning but they are true.
Got unresonable points off, zoom with him, argue for 2 hours, no points back. DONT TAKE IT.
Took him for 3B. Half the class dropped before the final. The entire grade was made up of 2 exams. A midterm and a final. Once he realized the whole class was failing, he began to curve everything after stating " I don't curve, ever ". He belittles you for being confused if you ask any question in class. TAKE ANYONE ELSE.
I'll keep this short and simple: do NOT take this Professor. Every other negative review is accurate to what you'll experience if you take his class. Avoid at all costs.
If you have not taken a calculus class prior to this one you will likely be completely lost for the majority of this class. 80% of your final grade is from 2 exams. When teaching he will rarely put a number on the board and talks in variable nonsense for the majority of a concept. This makes it very hard for most students to grasp.
Dr. Hole was by far the worst professor I have taken. I took him summer of 2023. Classes were long and boring. He was very unhelpful. I had to miss a few classes for work training and he told me to withdraw from the class or he would drop me himself. There was no reasoning with him. I do not know why saddleback still has him employed.
Taking Calc with this "professor" is a waste of your time. Lectures are boring and will put you to sleep. He makes everything the most complicated it can be! When he asks you to answer a question he wants you to be extremely specific or else you're wrong! If you don't show up on time, don't bother showing up at all. Homework is due before class!
Picture the teacher during Ferris Bueller's day off but if he was a passive aggressive with an ego so massive that Mount Everest envies its size. I put lecture heavy in a tag but that's deceptive as he doesn't lecture, he instead does example problems the whole two hours hoping you somehow catch onto a subject that he did not give you a lecture on
My class went from 43 students to amount 15 and only 8 showed up to the final. Dont bother taking this class.
Prof is passionate about what he teaches, he's a great guy but the way his class is structured is less than ideal. Lectures were 2 hours long. Hw every night but you only got 10 points in the entire semester. There were only 4 things in the grade book for 16 weeks of material. if you failed the midterm or final you failed the whole class.
Almost put poor instead of awful but I remember he was only nice after I burst into tears in OH. Was so picky I couldn't even ask a question and I already felt vulnerable because life and he made fun of me jogging to class. The man doesn't show outward positivity. I then got to class way before he did. He usually pulls up 3 mins before. Big L.
Honestly, the worst proffesor, hes rude and not understandable, he enjoys seeing the students suffer, the class isnt hard but he makes it. If you fail the midterm/final you fail the class since they are worth 90% of the grade. He makes easy and short things look extensive and hard. He also leaves a lot of homework but only calls u 3 times.
I would first like to start by saying that this class will not incubate lazy behavior. I have personally (unfortunately) seen many people leave bad reviews. However, many of these people would be on their phones or playing games during class. If you get a low grade due to that, it is on you. If you put in effort to succeed, it will happen.
EXTREMELY rude, has no sympathy for his students.has pop quizzes on things we either just learned or haven't at all. it's like ur begging him for extra change when you're asking for half a point back on a 7 question test worth 70 points.makes everything he teaches more difficult than it actually is.Poor environment created by this teacher.
Professor was extremely rude and condescending, the concepts themselves are very easy but he tends to over explain and make things way more complicated than they should be. Your grade also will solely depend on one midterm and one final. If you're able to, I recommend taking this class with someone else. He also lacks empathy and personality.
Avoid this class at all costs. The professor is passive-aggressive with a massive ego, making lectures dull and unhelpful. Attendance is mandatory, but you'll likely be lost without prior calculus experience. Thankfully, Unstuck ai and other study tools can help pick up the slack.
pre-calc it self isnt a hard class, however in this course and i think all taught by this professor your grade depends on the mid-term and final, there is no graded homework. the study guides did provide a solid outline for the midterm and final, the professor has no personality btw super dull and a very boring class but i was able to pass with a B
Grade rubric: 80% exams and 20% participation points. Two exams and I was barely able to pass with a B-. He atleasts gives you partial points so you can get 1 point back if you tried atleast and didnt full on skip questions. Homework is optional and he uses the textbook. Goes through chapters so fast like 2 in 1 lecture but finish all the sections.
Make him quit teaching. He's bringing down every student's grades.
Exams will determine your whole grade. He doesn't give tasks where you could bring up your grade. You know there's something wrong with the professor when the class average is low. It's not even supposed to be a difficult class. He overexplains things that make simple concepts more confusing.
Hi, I did not like my experience attending Professor Hole's classroom. I was in the tutoring center everyday to achieve an A in Precalc. That was okay with me but things like, the homework having most of it not be on previously discussed notes pissed me off because I value my time. There is zero grace in this class and his teaching. Don't take.
Worst professor he just does examples. There are two exams worth 70%. So all your grade depends on that. He does not teach he just yaps.
Dr. Hole comes off as condescending, petty, and rude, especially when answering questions. The homework load is unbelievable and he assigns unnecessarily difficult proofs in an attempt to teach critical thinking. He can be helpful in office hours, though. If anything, this class taught me how to suck up my annoyance and get through a course lol.
I thought if I studied hard enough I could make it through the class. Avg on the final was a 32% with no curve. Unless you're a genius do not take. This professor enjoys humiliating his students and feels superior to them. I retook w a diff professor and passed w an A
I absolutely loved his stats class! Barely had to memorize any formulas for this class we mainly used an online extension called StatCrunch. 3 major exams that were pretty easy if you show up to class everytime, also do quiz corrections he changed my exam grade to a 100. Soothing slow talker, good at what hes teaching, makes it very straightforward.
A true black hole of a class. Grade is based on 2 exams. Gives lengthy study guides yet very short exams. Does not like questions in class. Looks like there's something disgusting in his mouth at all times. Incredible how little help and support he gives. Yet to meet someone who passed out of the 10 people left by the end of the class.
I don't think Dr. Hole is nearly as bad as people on here make him out to be. For what it's worth, I will say he is a tough grader, very by-the-books, and he hasn't always explained things in ways that are the most helpful to me-- but on the other hand, he is very considerate with what we have going on and offers plenty of extra credit/easy grades.
Professor Jason's teaching method is a breath of fresh air. He doesn't shame you for asking questions and fosters a safe and fun learning environment, albeit the fun may be subjective haha. Overall, I think all of these reviews was a mis-judgement of his actions. I think a lot of people may find him "hard" but Professor Jason is a very fair grader
took him last year. Nonsensical lectures. Graded by 4 things. Took him because he was the only one left. Dropped before the midterm. If you really have to take him just lock in ig. If there is any other prof TAKE THEM. 3B is already the hardest in calc sequence imo (ive finished 3B and 3C), he makes its as confusing as he can. good luck.
very condescending, lectures make no sense are explained in a very weird way that makes it more complicated than it needs to be, spent a lot of time on easy stuff and little time on harder stuff. Not allowed to use calculators for exams, and makes you purchase a textbook only to use it twice in class.
Had to take over summer. I was scared because of the reviews but honestly a great teacher. There is 1 homework problem due at the beginning of every class as participation points. There are also take-home problems that are bonus points in the test category. I barely got an A and missed 5+ classes. If you show up and do homework you will get an A.
