Jason was an amazing teacher ! he made it fun to learn...he was always there to help you learn if you needed help with something. he told you what was going to be on the test. i really wish he would teach more classes! TAKE HIM..he is awesome !

If you are a visual learner, TAKE JASON! He simplifies difficult materials by lots of simple illustrations to help students understand. He makes biology fun and interesting. Questions are always welcome,entertained, and answered. I wish JJC would make him teach higher bioligy classes soon!

Great Teacher! Took 125 and 151 with him and I wish 250! Lots of drawing our mechanisms to help visual learners understand as well. He knows his stuff. Throughout my year attending JJC Jason was by far my favortie teacher! Jason was extremely helpful when explaining the material. He honestly cared about his students and their grades. Also, he was very funny which kept me from falling asleep and made class interesting!

This guy is awesome!! His class is challenging, but he prepares you for his exams with the use of study guides. I only used the Lab Book in this class, so save your money and don't buy the BIO book. Invest in some colored pencils or pens, it will help with the drawings. He lectures allot so the use of a voice recorder helps. Extremely fun class.

This is the best biology teacher I have ever had! He is so animated when he gives lectures that it actually helps to retain the information.He has a great sense of humor and is very laidbackdown-toe-earth! I highly recommend him for ANYONE! Very enthusiastic about Biology and animated when he lectures. Attendance is not mandatory, textbook isn't needed. Very down to earth teacher and tries to integrate funny stories and jokes into his lectures, which is nice since some of the material can get boring. Make sure you take all notes in class and do study guide to ace the tests

Jason is a GREAT teacher. Take him! He presents the material VERy well, just in his own way which will not help you much on the dept final. You will KNOW the material, they just present it on the final in a way Jason did not teach. Kind of confusing. Got a B and some great laughs and memories. Answers emails super fast!

I had taken AP Biology in high school about 8 years ago, and after just 1 week of Mr. Howland's lectures I was able to regain most of the material back. He is an amazing instructor that is dedicated to give you an amazing learning experience. He is very passionate about teaching and hilarious. He is by far the best Biology teacher ever!!! :) :) :)

I took him for a summer class. He is a very good teacher and has a good personality to make the class interesting.

I was scared to take a general bio course and after a few lectures i fell in love with biology. I took human bio with him just because i loved the class. He has sparked my love for biology and I am now pursuing a masters in microbiology all because Jason's lectures made go from hating biology to loving it. Tests are based off notes taken in class.

Overall very helpful. His teaching style is a way to get you to think, ask questions, and have fun at the same time. He truly enjoys what he does and strives to help everyone's learning style. Be prepared for laughter and a whole lot of Drawing pictures. He prepares you well for the tests and gives you the essay questions online All tests on notes

The tests are hard but if you study how he suggests, you can get a good grade. Make sure you come with a notebook, lots of notes. He's my favorite teacher thus far! Interesting lectures but can be long. Always gives help when needed, very enthusiastic and funny. Towards the end of the semester one of the last lectures. You will find out he is an evolutionary biologists which makes the topic more interesting to learn. I'd definitely take this class over 5 more times.

Do yourself a favor and take his class!!!!! You don't need the book, but you do need the lab manual because he will give you points for lab. Copy his notes from the board EXACTLY. Great Teacher! I took him during the summer. 7-9:20PM and we so far but two times out of the 5 weeks stayed the entire class. Study for his tests off the lectures he gives. STUDY! This was a summer course and very rigorous. But, he is such a great teacher I had little difficulty. First off, don't buy the book - you won't need it. The key: COME to class, take notes with colored pencils, pay attention - you will pass. It is a tough subject on its own right, but he makes it very easy. Also, plenty of easy extra credit.

My class was a night class 7:20 pm-9:50 pm. After working 8 hours sitting through a speech class and then at the end of a 15 hour day having this long class I thought it would be terrible but he is like 8 shots of espresso! Very passionate, energetic and over all awesome. Highly recommend! He teaches in a way I have never experienced!

Amazing teacher!!!! Wont find a teacher like this too often, who actually cares about teaching and making sure the students learn. Dress nice every day for class, and I learn so much from his notes. Science isn't my favorite subject, but Professor Howland changed my view on it. Every class you will have a lecture, however it isn't your usual PP slides. He writes his notes on the board, so you stay engaged because you have to follow along. Don't miss class or labs. Study the notes & make flashcards, if you do you'll have an A! No book needed.

Howland makes learning easy and fun. However, it seems some of the test material doesnt appear in the notes. He does not give study guides. He is accessible outside of class and very funny, but he seems to be the only one allowed to make jokes. He doesnt like to get off track in class.

Mr Howand was by far the best professor Ive ever had! If you show up to class and take notes youll do fine. He barely uses PowerPoint and instead writes notes on the board that are funny and easy to understand and remember. I took this class Spring 2020, were we had to move everything from Lecture class to Online because of covid. As an older student and hadn't done much of schooling, Mr. Howland was amazing in keeping up with each student, and helped above and beyond. Of course everything is difficult in College you have to study and work hard to get a good grade.

If you want to truly understand the subject this is the teacher for you. He explains the subject in detail.

He cares about his student doing well. He is a great teacher when it comes to the topic and if you don't get an A, it's because you didn't want to. He does interject his personal beliefs (politics, covid, protests etc.) into lecture days but if you can get past that he will help you understand material for sure. Tests off of lectures.

I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to take Bio 149 or the other ones that he teaches! He is very caring when it comes to needing an extension to exams or labs. Online classes can be difficult but he made sure we were all doing well :)

I had him as a last minute inline teacher due to the pandemic, he was really concerned about the students doing well in his class and that he was doing a good enough job. His lectures were never boring! Amazing professor and person!

Professor Howland is immensely passionate about his subject and teaching. He is also incredibly kind and always ready to make the extra effort to help his students; he has always made himself available outside of class and always encouraged curiosity. I recommend attending every lecture and writing down his outlines word for word; great study tool!

This was my second time taking biology unfortunately but I made the right choice by picking him to be my teacher. He is Amazing! So caring, funny, made lectures enjoyable. I would recommend anyone to have him as a teacher

He is the best professor!! I would definitely recommend him to anybody wanting or needing to take a Biology course. A very caring and understanding professor. His lectures are exactly like his tests so make sure you take notes off his powerpoints.

During hard times like these, a professor like Prof. Howland is amazing to come by. He is a great professor and really explains everything very well. His online lectures were very informative and he drew on his board so we could take perfect notes. If you make sure to take good notes and pay attention to his lectures, theres no reason to not pass.

Took Prof Howland's class during the pandemic so everything is online. He is very understanding when it comes to personal life such as work. Very helpful with explaining in lecture/note taking. Wish that he had an A&P class I could sign up for.

You have to take his class, amazing teacher. Cares about his students. Very passionate about what he is teaching, allows extensions if you're struggling. All around great teacher. TAKE HIS CLASS.

If you have the chance to take Professor Howland DO IT! He’s one of the very few that cares. His tests are based on his lectures, breaks down the material so it can be understood easily. You can tell he’s passionate about what he teaches! Wish he taught micro and anatomy :(

Don't even look up another professor for bio149, howland is the best! He was by far one of the best professors I've had. He is very helpful with the material and wants you to understand what you're learning. His exams are hilarious and he keeps a positive atmosphere in the classroom/online lectures. The department final exam is difficult...study!!!

Professor Howland is a great professor who cares about the material he is teaching He gives great detailed lectures to make sure everyone understands the material. I would definitely take a class with this professor again in the future.

Amazing professor. He is very helpful and overall his lectures are funny and helpful. He gives you all the notes you need. 5 exams pretty simple. If you study you pass. He also gives extra credit assignments at the end and throughout the semester. He is super kind, funny, helpful and he makes sure everyone is on the right path. Take him!

Professor Howland is an awesome teacher & you can tell he really cares about the well-being of students. He is always around if you need help and his lectures are really fun to listen to. You can learn a lot from Professor Howland & he has a very engaging way of teaching. Don't be afraid to ask him questions because it will help you out.

FAVORITE PROFESSOR ! Not one single homework assignment he doesn't believe in busy work ! Listen to his lectures take notes everything you need to know he writes down on the board. The lectures are funny and he definitely keeps you interested . 1000/10 . I would take this professor for every bio class if I could!

He was an amazing professor who is very passionate about his class. He is very clear about what to expect for the exams and labs. Only downside is he does not respond to emails all the time, but he is available before and after class.

I've taken 5 years worth of classes and P. Jason is my favorite teacher EVER! He is passionate about teaching, cares about his students, is so inspiring, makes lectures interesting, he's down to earth and really friggin' cool! Lots of extra credit and tests are hilarious. Theres absolutely NO reason why anyone should even get a C in his class!

Professor H actually LOVES what he teaches which makes his lectures amazing. He is also super funny and cares about his students. He teaches what he has to and gives no busy work. He WANTS you to succeed, his class was stress free and easy. Take him if you can, you won't regret it! One of the best professors I have ever had. He is so passionate!

If you have a chance to take him, choose him right away! Super caring and gives STUDY GUIDES. Honestly it is an easy A if you try and put in work. Really great lectures and not boring.

An engaging professor who makes lectures fun and informative. Lots of extra credit, no busy work, and helpful study guides - this class is a breeze if you put in the effort. unstuckstudy can also be a great study tool alongside the class materials.

I took the 6-week accelerated course in the summer; he is my favorite professor by far. Other science courses I've taken were challenging, and the professors were not helpful. His lecture notes are very organized, and he takes the time for his students to provide clear exam study guides. He has tons of extra credit opportunities and is charming.

Just take him. Best professor I have ever had.

You will 100% not regret this class. Genuinely the professor I have ever had. I am someone who has struggled with learning, however I always look forward to listening to his lectures and wanting to learn more. Not only does he know what he is talking about, but he is very lenient with his grading and often offers extra credit in various ways.
