He is a fair grader and will give you good feedback. CCJ 200 was a fairly simple class because every week will look the same just different subjects. Online lectures are also put well together.

This professor is an officer that brings to light the problems with the justice system, and the history behind it. I like the fact that he tries to help the people by finding out what is causing them to have police contact, not just lock em up like alot of officers do. some people just need help. I think there needs to be more humanity.

Professor Jones always cared about my progress and always showed interest in my future goals. I believe he's a great professor and is always happy to give his advice. Considering this is one of the last criminology classes I'm taking before my major, I can easily say I ended on a 'high' thanks to him. I wish him all the best!

I've taken a bunch of classes from Jason Jones and his classes always have clear requirements and are well organized. There is a lot of reading but if you're like me and struggle with reading, you can get by without.

This class was taught using a textbook, recorded lectures, discussion posts, and quizzes.The information was clear and easy to understand, but discussion questions were confusing at times.There's a decent amount of reading each week but it's manageable.If you want a good grade it's necessary to complete every aspect of the discussion posts on time.

I really enjoyed this class! He provides a PDF of the textbook so you won't need to purchase a textbook for the class. You read chapters of the text and then take a quiz on it. I took Professor Jones for crime control strategies. I took the class for my criminology minor and enjoyed it a lot. Jones is a caring and attentive professor who takes pride in their work and provides clear expectations. I recommend taking Jones and his courses as he makes them engaging and fun to be in.

His personal experience in crime control strategies really enriched the experience. He was not only able to give us clear definitions but could attest to the experience he has had in the past with a modern day deteriorating Portland.

While the class is lecture-heavy and relies heavily on the textbook, that does not mean Professor Jones does not add his own spin to the material. The most memorable classes came from the stories he shared. If you pay attention and keep up with readings you will be fine! If I wasn't graduating, I would take any of his classes again.

I really enjoyed this class. Some of the assignments were tedious, but not too difficult. One forum post a week, two responses that included asking a peer a question, and answering questions you received; then two easy quizzes a week with questions from the text. I can't speak highly enough of this professor. Although I'm studying engineering, his unique teaching style has made me more curios about the justice system. Get ready for 300 word discussions though. I think what makes his classes so interesting is that he talks about his experience as a cop, and how the strategies he is teaching worked.

Prof Jones is one of the best at PSU. His coursework is designed intentionally to make you think critically about the concepts, rather than expecting you to simply accept them whole cloth. This class is a lot of theory about criminal justice but Prof Jones does a good job at applying it to real world cases and topics. The course was completely online. Jones was a great professor. Each week he interviews individuals working on different aspects of forensics and creates a podcast that you have to listen to on your own time. For weekly assignments he requires students to do a video reflection on topics that were learned. This reflection is only seen by him. Overall great course and professor!

Took his intro to forensics class and loved it! He's a chill guy and cracks jokes every so often. Homework mostly consisted of video journals, if you make the 5 minute mark, you'd get full credit. Relatively easy class.

Even though I took a class with him online, professor was still good to give you feedback on the assignments that were turned in. Instructions for assignments were pretty clear and easy to understand. I liked how even though he was strict with a deadline he still gave an extra day to turn in assignments without penalty.

This class was a lot of fun. It's intimidating at first due to the use of video assignments, but they're extremely self-explanatory and you get used to them quickly. Everything is provided for you, including the textbook, and the lectures are short and engaging. I would definitely take it again and highly recommend it.

I took CCJ299 Intro to forensic. This course is an exploratory career course, while the main subject is forensics we do discuss other careers in the criminal justice system, anything from medical examiners to district attorneys. The weekly video entries did worry me in the beginning but as I went along, they became easier. highly recommend

Professor Jones is a wonderful teacher who genuinely cares. Don't waste the opportunity to learn from this man, his insights are rounded and well informed. The textbook is thorough. The content is dense and complex, but valuable. I highly recommend this course.

There are weekly 5-minute talking assignments with a chapter and lecture quiz. The talking was tough at first, but after getting used to it, I prefer it much more than any other assignment. Professor was very reasonable and responds to his emails pretty quickly. I recommend this course for its content and the professor.

The professor's way of teaching is very interesting and keeps the students engaged I enjoyed how the class had different topics every week. The homework was reasonable I enjoyed how we needed to submit a video about what we learned during that week along with the class having weekly interviews with people in different jobs in Criminal Justice.

Very easy to understand and would engage with the class although if you don't do the assignments by the deadline there isn't an opportunity to turn it in anymore other than that it was a great class.

There are no quizzes and exams. you just need to participate in weekly discussions, which are manageable and easy. . The final assessment is an online presentation on a topic of your choice. . The class was really enjoyable, and the professor made it fun and engaging. Plus, his grading system is pretty easy.

Jason Jones is a very charismatic professor who is well versed in his field of study (primarily criminal Justice and Law). His assignments are unique and interesting but not difficult. One thing of warning is that he made it very clear at the beginning of class that he has multiple jobs outside of teaching to his assignment deadlines can be strict.

An excellent educator. Early in the term, he asked everyone which topics they were interested in, and covered them throughout the lectures. Each week consisted of engaging materials (including interviews with local professionals), video assignments, and occasional discussion posts. There was even a field trip. Awesome class.

I've never had a professor who had gone out of his way to show so many different sides of one topic. Usually it tends to be the same criminologists, theories, & vocabulary within the CCJ department at PSU but this professor really cares about what he is teaching about!

Very hilarious professor. He made lectures enjoyable and I loved being in his class. You will learn a lot during the lectures while having a great time. He's a bit picky on citations but overall is a great professor. Nothing bad to say about him, just take his classes and I swear you will enjoy it.

There are around 2/3 assignments due every weekend; one of them includes a 5 minute oral video of a specific topic you learned that week. You do get used to it though!! I really enjoyed the class and don't have any complaints :)

I took CCJ 299: Intro to Forensics this term and it was definitely a really good course. Because it hadn't been offered before it was an experimental class where we got to choose what we learned based on our own interests, which made the reading and assignments more fun. As long as you do the work and come to class, you'll get a good grade.

I think that Professor Jones does a very good job at communicating instructions and has great and helpful feedback when it comes to assignments. It should be noted, however, that the course is very heavy on research and despite me personally enjoyed it and don't see this as a negative, I know that some don't enjoy research heavy courses.

Professor jones was great, his class was so easy to do and learn! He cared about the the lectures as well as his students. On line class consist a of a few discussion posts, weekly video assignments, and weekly quizzes. Finally was 51 questions multiple choice.

Professor Jones had a weekly discussion post as well as a quiz based on the lecture and a quiz based on the reading. There is a final paper that end that is pretty hefty, but it's really just you taking your discussion posts throughout the term and combining them into one big paper. Consistent and pretty easy workload.

Professor Jason is well organized and gives very clear instructions for assignments. weekly assignments were a chapter quiz, a lecture quiz, and an oral assignment. work load wasn't anything crazy.

If you have trouble or a device that cannot handle recording good sized weekly lectures every week this class would not be great as main grades are those videos. Other than that great and interesting class, Jason is very nice and accommodating

This professor is very big on being “academically honest”. The lectures and textbooks are very informative and give you all the information you will need for tests. I liked the class and enjoyed the professor. He grades very promptly and also gives you an extra day to complete assignments after the due date.

The weekly discussion post is critical, missing the weekday deadline for the initial post my most frequent mistake. There's quizzes based on the lecture and the reading each week, pretty straight forward. The final paper is massive(min. 15pgs) but it's basically a compilation of your research from the weekly discussion posts so don't skimp on those

Do not take my performance in this course as a reflection of the course itself. This class was well put together and the professor was great at making sure everything was well organized. class was an intro to forensic, super simple. able to choose what you learn. simple homework once or twice a week.

This class was good. Weekly quizzes and discussion boards that you post, then respond to classmates. A large research paper at the end that is built with the weekly discussion prompts. This makes the paper a little less daunting. Overall a good experience.

The course CCJ 200 was a great way to start studying criminology. I had fun discussing my opinions. There were weekly quizzes for the lecture, chapter reading, and discussions. Overall, the professor and the course were great. Just remember to write your course name when emailing him, as he has many classes and it can get mixed up.

Multiple weekly components, still manageable. Minimum of 3-4 days of active engagement required each week. Pay attention to detail, points docked for small oversights. Requires video journals each week as well as a heavily weighted video project over three weeks. Hugely informational, great crisis framework, amazing education opportunity.

Nice professor, took this class because he was teaching it. Although I recommend taking his in person or hybrid classes as you miss out on a lot of the interesting content when online. It also was not as enjoyable online but not too much on his part. I do wish the lecture videos weren't split up into random 2-7 minute increments.

Prof. Jones was awesome!! I really enjoyed his style of teaching, his lectures, and his feedback on assignments. I'd say my only complaint was the weekly Journal entries, I didn't like having to record myself talking, but I do think that it helped me retain information.

There are a lot of video assignments for this class, but they are not very difficult. Some do require having a partner so be prepared for that.

I am pretty sure that I saw it from other students, but Dr. Jones' class is truly a "do the work and you will be fine." He clearly outlines his expectations, and the workload is manageable. He assigns 5-7 minute video assignments, however as long as you follow the instructions, it is pretty informal and easy to complete.

He also emphasized that the class was meant to be a forensic appreciation class as opposed to a standard intro to forensics course, which I appreciated. Class was initially listed as In-Person/Hybrid, but the professor moved and the class shifted to online. Despite this, the class structure remained very easy to follow. Content is rich with valuable info rather than busy-work. Course topics were voted on at the start of the term, so the things students cared about more were prioritized in class.

Dr. Jones takes a no-nonsense approach to teaching his class but has a lot of care for his students and encourages, almost expects, students to think critically and out of the box. There's a lot of work to do, especially weekly video recordings, but he grades fairly and gives timely feedback.

In my opinion the professor was great. The readings were interesting and the right amount (40-60 pages in average per week) plus the lectures explaining the readings and the extra material; the lectures were interesting and he gave a lot of examples to understand it better. I would totally recommend this professor and the course.

I took CCJ200 online, and it was very straightforward. The assignments are easy to find and clear, and as long as you take the time to actually do your work, you will pass. I liked that the class had the same weekly assignment format and that at the end, you had extra credit options.

Very easy class; you can cram everything on the night it's due in like 3 hours. only had trouble with reading the interesting albeit boring book. He understands that you're a person with things going on in your life, and will extend due dates if there were issues uploading specific assignments. Great class, great introduction to CCJ.

He is very strict on when assignments close so make sure to turn your work in on time. Although he does give one extra day to turn in an assignment with full credit.

Professor Jones is extremely organized and clear about his expectations. His lectures and materials are straightforward, guest speakers he would share with us and their experiences with their jobs. it gives you more of a better understanding there's other fields to get into once you graduate school there are other options.

I thought Professor Jones was passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. I took the class only to fulfill credit count requirements, but surprisingly enjoyed the course. Weekly quizzes on book chapters, and lectures, plus a video as your discussion post. A final exam at the end. A good introduction to the subject of Criminal Justice.

Dr. Jason is the 1st professor I've met that has gone out of his way to interview local professionals in the field (Forensics) where he asks for first-hand advice for students wanting to pursue careers in their profession. This class was extremely valuable and I promise it will be worth you time (and money!)

I do not like online courses. The only reason I'm saying I wouldn't take a class from Professor Jones again is because he lives in a different state than I do. Given that this class was fundamentally a different learning style than I work well with (university's fault, the course catalogue listed it wrong) it was about as painless as possible.

Jason Jones is an amazing professor who communicates clearly and wants his students to succeed. He grades assignments quickly, replies promptly, and is very forgiving with grading. Specifically, with this elective class, where things are meant to be more relaxed. The class was fun and just the right amount of challenging.

This class mainly consisted of “Video Journals” and weekly quizzes. Quizzes were easy as long as you read/watch the material of the week, multiple choice too usually less than 10 questions. The video journals were harder, we had to video ourselves discussing things we learned during the week, five minutes minimum with four talking points.

Already took a course previously with Dr.Jones. He is a phenomenal instructor! Most of class consists of video lectures, quizzes, video journals, a final exam and presentation project! His classes are super informative and it's clear Dr.Jones is passionate about everything he teaches! I loved this class! Definitely would take another course again!
