Jason is young, funny, extremely intelligent, and sexy. He has a ton of knowledge and is a fantastic professor. Very approachable and always uses great examples in lecture with video clips and personal stories. I always enjoy going to lecture, and this has been one of the most useful classes I have taken so far.
Jason is very excited about this topic, and is very knowledgeable about it. He uses very good examples in lecture, and the tests are a good mix of lecture and from the readings.
Not exactly easy but extremely helpful in letting you know where you went wrong and how to improve. Loves to talk with his students and get to know all of them
Jason is a fantastic professor. Even in a lecture hall with 200 people, he manages to make class interesting. He's very animated while lecturing and uses lots of hilarious film clips so you won't ever fall asleep in class. The class is really easy and you always know exactly what is expected of you. You ABSOLUTELY have to read the book to keep up!
EXCELLENT CLASS! Really well thought out curriculum.
Negotiations and Labor Relations was a great class with Jason Kanov. Be prepared to engage in negotiation almost every class and be able to comprehensively write about each situation. Go to class every day and keep up with your work; it's not too difficult to get a decent grade. No tests or final - just planning guides, negotiating, and papers.

Ill make this as straight forward as possible. He is very knowledgable, he is very intelligent. He is a good guy and his class is pretty interesting. Go everyday because some of his test questions come frome videos he shows you. A big thing to note is that his test are very subjective...HIS TESTS ARE HARD because ur grade is based on his oppinion
Class is pretty straightforward and easy to follow. Go to lectures and keep up with the readings because it will benefit you a great deal come test time. The tests ARE subjective, but you can do very well if you know, and can apply, course concepts.
He begins by telling everyone that it is very easy to get a B in is class but very hard to get an A. If you do all the reading and go to lecture and lab. You'll be fine.
going to class everyday is a must. lectures were broken up with video clips. you have to keep up with the reading to pass the quizes, the tests were a little difficult so really know the concepts and how to able them to real world situations. the only problem i had with the class was the expectations of students work were a little high.
Great prof. Has humor in lectures, as well as video clips to keep interest. Does have high expectations. Tests are all essay based, but as long as you know what you're writing about and can relate it to what he's asking (he is specific) you'll do just fine. On one exam I made up a story, but related it to what he asked and got 98% on that test.
Going to class was a waste of my time. His lecture had little do do with either the book or the text. The tests had nothing to do with anything. Basically i felt that you got a good grade if he knew your name and you did extra credit. I think his grades weren't based on the material much at all
One of the best professors I have had thus far. He was humorous and made the lectures as fun as he could. The lectures were COMPLETELY related to the book and the tests (I don't know what the last person was talking about...). Go to class, do the readings, and include key terms in your essay tests and you will be just fine!
Go to all the labs (once a week and free points), do all the quizes (open book), do the easy extra credit, go to class half time, skim over the book, and read the lectures posted online, then you can get a B. But getting an A requires much more effort. You also have a ten minute presentation that is done with 4 other group members. Great teacher.
Has unrealistic expectations. Tests for set at a 'C' average. There is no use in talking to him about your exam grade since he pretty much lets you talk then tells you, "Well, that's what I thought you deserve." You have no say in changing it. At all.
Your going to have to work very hard to get a B! I went to talk to him about a case assignment and he said that my answers were right but they could have been better so I only got a 80%. He also tells you right away that he wont change your grade when you talk to him but he will listen to what oyu have to say. Whats the point! His T.A. grades tough.
This class is literally pointless. He says that it isn't common sense, but next time you learn a theory on why conflict is bad (because it generates negative feelings) you will soon learn that everything he teaches you already knew in a more simple form. But then he takes this insanely useless knowledges and tests you the heck out of it. Good luck.
His tests are hard, I'm usually an A/B student and I'll be happy to have a B-, and worked pretty hard. He gives you an 80 if you do things correctly, you have to go above and beyond to get anything higher. Go to class everything and do all the readings and you'll probably be okay.
The info is pretty easy, so it's easy to understand concepts. Go to the labs (easy points). He is looking for key words in his tests so as long as you know the vocab you'll be ok. You'll do a lot of work, but it's easy to get done. I'm usually a C- kind of student, but I scored a high B.
Kanov is a great professor and I would recommend anyone to take him! Exams are kind of hard if you don't study but if you do then it isn't so bad. He got a new book this quarter and it was used weekly so make sure to buy it. Take this professor!
Avoid if you are minorities. Very Judgemnetal professor
Jason is a really great professor. His lectures are really clear and interesting, and if you go to the labs, they are easy points. You do a group presentation as a final at the end of the quarter, which is easy as long as you have a good group. The tests are not hard as long as you study his lectures. Write what he wants to hear and you will be ok
I loved this class. It's extremely well structured, Kanov knows what he's talking about and he has passion for it. If you keep up with the reading than chapter quizzes and hmwk assignments are easy points. He expects a lot of his students, but if you keep up with everything and study for exams you should be fine.
jason is one of my favorite professors at wwu. he cares about what he teaches.i took mgmt 311 and loved that one too. only lazy ppl complain. there is some busy work but its all apart of his master plan.test are hard if you dont have a grasp on the material, so study. 313 is team based be prepared to do 60% of grade with a team, even test.
Easy class
Cool guy. Fun class. Learned a great deal.
His grading style is RIDICULOUS. Anyone in the world could get an A+ in this class if it were multiple choice since it's all common sense. But of course, he has to make essay tests so he can mark you down on dumb stuff. The only good part is that if you read the book, you really don't need to go to class.
The class was a little demanding as far as time, but Kanov is a very clear and interesting lecturer. Lecture material goes pretty close with the book, but some might not like the subjective essay tests. Overall though, great prof for this course
Kanov is one of the best, down to earth prof's there is at WWU. I'd take another class of his. He is easy to communicate with and isn't there to just get a paycheck. He loves his new daughter too! Take this class. Readings only needed for pop quizzes. Read the summaries and you'll do fine. Work wasn't hard but very demanding on time.
One of my favorite professors. Very down to earth but lectures can get very repetitive. Content of the class is pretty straight-forward, but he even admits that it is very hard to get a good grade. Very tough on grading the two midterms , two case worksheets, and group presentation. No final though which is nice.
I loved how he lectured. He was very thorough and handled huge amounts of students well. He could answer all questions and gave everyone chances to earn participation points. His tests are short essay and you have to be PRECISE or he will dock you.
Kanov is easy and hard. His tests are subjective and he grades really unfair. But there is a lot of points possible for online quizzes and other assignments. A lot of busy work for the class. He knows the subject well but other professors might be better. He is taking a year off teaching MGMT 311.
His tests are pretty hard. He words his multiple choice questions horribly and makes them really tricky. Gives a lot of small assignments. Nice guy but he thinks he is really cool.
His tests are different than what would be expected.Just show you know the terms and concepts, and you should be fine.
Everything about this class was clear as day. He is VERY articulate. The only hard part are the midterms.
Kanov is great! He is funny and really cares about his students. If you have any questions he is great at helping answer them. I took 313 and 481 with him both classes are great!
Kanov cares about his students learning. He gives a lot of homework, readings, exercises, projects, exams. Be prepared to work hard. But he can be effective in teaching if you want to learn. Tough class, but you can learn about teamwork.
Lectures are long with no breaks but if you show interest you can get a good grade. Class was slightly difficult due to his grading and complex questions.
Jason cares about learning and has his PHD. He actually can teach. Class has weekly 15 min online quizzes on book chapters. 2 essay style mid terms and a group project final. I like the new hybrid class structure. He is still perfecting it. His grading is very unclear and rarely gives any As. You only have to go to lab, no class on Tuesdays usually
Very knowledgeable, knows Operational Mgmt inside and out. The class had a lot of busy work, however it was all quite easy. No final just a presentation the week before finals. He does take a very long time grading exams (there are two). He has a large class so it's hard to feel connected. All in all, a good prof and easy class.
Amazing class. Textbook not necessary, but helpful. Did an online component instead of class on one of the days. Simple grading and overall easy and awesome!
This guy is a joke. Requires participation in a giant lecture class. Makes insanely unclear weekly quizzes. Bases his grading system off of everything you learn not to do in the material.
His online tests were exremely difficult and they take so much time. Annoying class and his final is insanely hard and he doesn't grade fairly. Only take this class if you have to because otherwise it is boring and too difficult
It's clear that Kanov cares about what he teaches. He does his best to structure the class for maximum learning. TAKE THE ONLINE QUIZZES & TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY. They end up being a big portion of the grade. Same with participation during class. I find this subject interesting though some is not so exciting. Interview project wasn't difficult.
Pretty difficult class. There are many confusing online quizzes. The final test is hard. Very hard to get above 80%.
I really did not enjoy this class even after watching the entire module and doing all the readings getting 100% on the quizzes is not a sure thing. Kanov also has absolutely no real world experience working in any of the situations he teaches about so it is very hard to see him as an authority on this subject despite his PHD.
If you actually put WORK into your academic career, don't listen to the negative reviews on here saying he's so "hard". There are quizzes for almost every reading, but if you actually READ it they're easy. He wants you to learn, and that's why they're there. Jason is a great teacher. I learned more in his class than in 90% of my other classes
Kanov is a nice guy and the class is pretty simple and easy, but it becomes tedious by the end. And listening to the same lecture 3 times(in class, lab, and modules) gets annoying.(his voice will frustrate you by the end of the quarter). However you learn a lot. The quizzes and midterm were confusing at times. But i loved the class.
Nice guy, genuinely wants you to learn the material and take something from the class. That being said the class isn't hard, but it does have an obnoxiously lot of busy work. Don't take it if you have other time consuming classes.
Lots of busy work but easy and interesting class overall. If you keep up with the work you will end up with a good grade for sure.
This is a hybrid class, so you have access to ALL course materials right from the beginning. That's a plus. The assignments don't seem that hard to begin with, but this guy is hard pressure. Don't expect him to follow all of the best-practice managerial guidelines preached in the text. Team competition can be fierce. Stick to your guns.
Jason is the best professor I've encountered at this institution. He is clear in his objectives (albeit long-winded), fair, calm, and focuses on teaching the subject at hand. He strives to exemplify what he expects from his students. Above all he is a true teacher.
Very articulate. I liked his class a lot and he loves what he is doing. There was 1 problem which is the final exam where he gave you 11 ques. beforehand 3 of them are going to appear on the exam; however, he wont correct them for you which means you could spends a week working on them then you end up with D on the final.
Great professor! He integrates lab, class and online perfectly and makes things very interesting. As long as you get together with your team around once a week and stay on the online stuff (which is easy considering its all laid out for you,) you should ace the class.
Class isn't all that hard, but it is A LOT of busy work and reading. It is easy to get a good grade if you go to class and do the reading for the quizzes. He is a good teacher & is always willing to give extra help if you need it!
Hands down the best CBE professor at Western. His lectures are interesting, he lays out all student responsibilities from the beginning, and is always willing to help or clarify anything. His classes are some of the few I really learned something in.
Everyone raves about how he is great, but I thought this class was very sub-par. It was boring material that you mostly learned by reading the book. His final is pretty ridiculous because it's writing when all you practice is online quizzes and then he grades it harshly.
There is a lot of reading assignments and small quizzes, in addition to video lectures. There is 2-3 chapters a week, some articles, and up to 1 hour of video lectures. He posts questions through out the quarter that are going to be on the exam. Do these questions one at a time and don't wait to do all of them until the weekend before the exam!
By far worst class I've EVER taken. The class itself is common sense and the irony of having to take a managing class from Jason is thick. No motivation to do any work for him ever. Tedious and pointless work every week, feel like I'm in high school again. Stupid lecture videos you must watch 8 of a week and take quizzes. DO NOT take this class
Great prof! Loved this class. Be ready to participate, don't be a dead weight. Also, stay ahead on assignments. This class should be required for all students because you learn skills that you will use forever. Anyone who says it's "common sense" or "pointless" has probably never had a job before. Follow the rubric and you will get an A.
Jason is a wonderful professor who enjoys helping students LEARN the material. This is not an "Easy A" course, but if you put in the time and effort, you will do well. Homework is due twice a week and requires extensive reading. Multiple choice tests are easy if you do the reading. A class well worth taking.
Lots of small assignments every week, but there's one test at the end of the quarter. He posts questions throughout the quarter, DON'T wait until the last minute to study! Not much socialization besides with your team, make sure you have a good group. Jason wants to help as much as he can, don't be afraid to ask him questions! Overall great class
Jason knows management and organization behavior. He is the man. Teamwork Basics was incredibly informational, and the class removes students from their comfortable role of consumers, to having to add to the class. Expect to be heavily involved, plenty of assignments, but you will learn how to work in teams more effectively. Great class.
The class material is dry, as it's vague and tries to apply to all management positions. Dr. Kanov is dedicated to management, organization and the class material, but is given almost two hours to fill with material. Unfortunately, his charisma falls disappointingly short after less than an hour. The remaining second hour of class is dreadful.
Jason is a nice guy and willing to help if you need it, but I did not like the structure of this class. There is a lot of work including quizzes, small papers, lecture videos, and readings. The class itself isn't difficult but there is just a lot of busy work involved. Overall the material was boring and I'll avoid taking another class with Jason
Jason was a vague professor, HIS class is one big example of reward A but hoping for B. He does nothing but talk in circles, and does not answer questions correctly. When responding to questions and teaching all he does is state "you should have learned this already, or its in the book. For teaching a class on "great management skills. he HAS NONE
Kanov is really passionate about management but he does ramble a lot. Going to class is important, and make sure to stay on top of assignments. Very straightforward class with the layout. Show that you care and he will be happy.
Prof. Kanov is a tough grader, but he really cares about his students. At first, I thought Jason was a harsh grader but he gives good feedback on each assignment. He recognizes the changes you make as a result of his feedback and grades easier as the quarter goes on. If you want to learn how to negotiate well, take this class! Not an easy A though.
MGMT313- heavy workload, get ready for group meetings and group works since it's a team building class.
Yet another run-of-the-mill, unengaging, and dry-as-all-hell business core professor, who assigns far too much reading for a course whose material basically boils down to basic common sense. I honestly stopped doing any of the additional readings midway through. There is no reason we should be reading four chapters a week for material this boring.
Lectures were so boring and slow, most days he would spend 2 hours going over 6 slides. I stopped going early in the quarter and still did well in the class. He over complicates everything for no reason. Expects specific answers on case exams even if you back up your answer with evidence. I learned a couple useful things, but most is common sense.
Incredibly boring lecture, lots of busy work that will kill two nights of your week. A large portion of your grade is based on the only test at the end of the quarter which has a huge build up and depends upon your knowledge of the entire textbook. Super particular grader, needs you to know and apply every of the 350+ terms. Do not take
He expects very specific answers on the case exams and will grade you harshly for saying anything else (even if well supported). There's not really a point in going to the regular lecture because you're taught online beforehand by the readings/videos. He also set up several conflict-inducing activities, which I don't think was a great idea.
Jason is a really good guy, however, he does not teach the course material well. He also has very high satndards that are impossible to meet with how he teaches. He also has you do a group project then a presentation that is a good part of your grade. I would try avoiding taking it with Jason.
Very organized, modules include all resources needed (so no textbook). Weekly online module quizzes that have quite a few readings required. Two team exams, a group project and presentation (due during dead week) and a final (two questions essay style). Definitely ask for feedback on group presentation as he is a tough grader.
Jason is one of the most kind and caring professors I have had at WWU. The class was easy to navigate online and everything is set up through modules so that you don't need to purchase a textbook. Grades are based off of short module quizzes, an essay question style exam, and a group project. Would definitely recommend taking this class with Jason!
O/L during Covid. Jason is an extremely nice guy, but not a great professor. Most lectures are optional and pointless to go to, theres 2 reading quizzes due tuesdays and discussions due thursdays. Exams are take-home, can prep questions ahead of time, but he grades harshly. Group project isn't impossible but a lot of annoying hoops to fly through.
This prof is the worst, you have to show up to his class or you don't get credit for the assignment, you cannot turn it in online. And then after turning in the assignment you spend 2 hrs talking about things that are irrelevant to the tests. Also his tests are papers where he grades it like its the most important thing in the world. At most 15/25.
Worst professor at western that I've encountered. Don't take his class, point blank period. You'll end up needing to spend so much time meeting with your group to do assignments and a whole presentation that's due ON dead week. Also, very harsh grader, he wants you to use his own definitions of things and claims dictionary definitions are wrong.
Don't take this class if you don't have to or take it with someone else. Class attendance is mando you'll lose 4 points if you don't go. Readings for assignments are way too long for how little points they are worth. 2 exams and a group project at the end. Too much team dependence with the project if you get put in a bad group it's going to suck.
Pros - nice guy, that is it Cons - lectures were very boring, I pretty much paid $4 to come to class to be on my phone you literally have to come to class to turn in PRINTED homework 2 quizzes each week, lots of reading 2 midterms were hit or miss final presentation, very team dependant
VERY TOUGH GRADER, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
He seems like a cool dude and tries to assign "fun" assignments but honestly, this whole class was a big yikes. I feel like he TRIES to be clear in his lectures and grading criteria, but he ends up talking in circles, and grading criteria is a giant grey area. No textbook, but his own written material- which is just as rambly as his lectures.
Would not take again
This professor was two sided. In class he is a very respectful person who is gentle and kind to everyone's answers and participation. Unfortunately he is very nitpicky and will tear apart your finals and final project. Even if I followed his advice and criteria, he would find something else to tear apart and ultimately failed me on it. Be careful.
I took 311 with Professor Kanov in 2021, which was an online class at the time. He gave very specific instructions that were easy to follow. His lectures were pretty engaging, and found him to be a very reasonable, kind person. I felt comfortable asking him any questions I had. I recommend 311 with Kanov!
not my type of professor
Absolute joke of a class. Some things were interesting, though. He takes himself way too seriously, and is a tough grader for no apparent reason, will nitpick anything and everything. One of the worst grading systems I've ever seen, you can do the "optional" exams, put in the work, and still receive a U... the same grade as not even taking it.
This is the worst professor I have ever had and it is not even close. The grading system is terrible, the way the class is designed is bad, and half of your grade is on group projects.
This class was so dry in content. Lectures never went into the depth he'd expect you to understand on the exams. Also uses his own grading system that makes no sense. Super nitpicky on grading and talks in circles when you ask for feedback often leaving you more confused than before. Will never take a class with him again.
Class is heavy on workload because everthing is spread out, has his own grading system that makes it hard to fail the class unless you just never show up. Fun group project where you get to interview people and suggest improvements for their management practices. Just do the work and follow the rubric and you'll get a good grade. Exams optional!
Nice teacher who cares about his students, but such a slow and long lecturer, classes were two hours and he added almost nothing outside of the assigned reading. Fun In-class activities, the group project and exams weren't too hard, but he grades them harsher then you'd expect. Over explains everything! Wants a lot of detail on assignments.
Professor Kanov's MGMT311 was a mixed bag. The coursework was heavy, but the group projects were engaging. To do well, follow the rubric closely and utilize helpful study tools like unstuckstudy alongside the free textbook. Overall, a reasonable class if you put in the work.
What a great guy - Lecture heavy but very inspirational and learned a lot in class. Show up to succeed.
Very unclear grader, and over explainer. Ask lots of clarifying questions for assignments because the essay he writes for instructions and feedback are not helpful to most. Lectures are long, slow, and unimportant in nearly all ways. only saving grace is that the classes (311/313) are pretty easy.
