i droped this**** like it was hot! seriously, highest grade on ANY paper was a 85, but other then that not a bad teacher
He is a very nice person. He doesn't grade the essays hard. He is a little dingy, but the class is taught fairly well. He makes sure to go over each text read and he answers each question asked. I hope to have him for ENG 1102!
Kesler grades essays fairly easy. There's rarely any outside work, except for essays. The reason an 85 was the highest grade on the first essays was because nobody proofreads anything before they turn it in. Its a great class if you never want to show up. There isn't an attendance policy.
His class is not too difficult, he does grade strictly, which you'll realize after you get your first paper back. Attendance is entirely optional, and usually pointless. You won't fail his class, but you won't get a B either. Not recommended.
Kesler is a very easy teacher. There is hardly any outside work besides working on your papers, and reading the material. You don't have any test or quizzes, and he grades lightly. I recommend this class to anyone.
Mr. Kesler is a good teacher. His notes are very sloppy. There aint no possible way that you can take notes. His class is fairly easy. English is not my strong subject and i have a B in his class. I would recommend you take Kesler over any of the other teachers.
Ok...here's the truth....I did like his class and yes no quizzes or tests (just essays)...BUT we needed extra grades not just papers. They're usually 3 to 4 pgs, he grades VERY hard and my first paper, half the class failed. It's more like if you dont agree with his opinion, you wont get a good grade. Take him at your own risk!
HE IS THE WORSE TEACHER EVER!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!! HES A HARD GRADER AND IS VERY HYPROCRITICAL ON YOUR PAPERS AND WILL NOT GIVE ANYONE AND A TO SAVE YOUR LIFE!! STAY AWAY!
It's not impossible to get an A in Mr. Kesler's class. I got one..not because I aced the papers..but probably because I went to class every day and did all the extra miscellanous things that were 20% of our grade. Mr Kesler is a good teacher..if you work hard and go to him...he's very approachable..then you can make your A or B.
He is a fairly easy teache. If you do everyhting his way and be very SPECIFIC on his papers, then you want have no problem coming out of this class with an B. He does not give A's. He does not believe anyone deserves them. I would recommend him overall. He is a good teacher. You actually learn something.
At first this class seems like it is going to be easy and that he is a really nice guy and then you get your first paper back and it slaps you in the face. (Everyone failed!) His grading is EXTREMELY strict! He's nice and heplful but if you want to get a good grade take someone else. I didn't take him in the spring and got A's and B's on my papers.
Fun class. Goofy guy. Pretty much discussed things the whole time. He is a hard grader though, but is more than willing to help. I wouldn't mind taking another class of his.
I got an A, but it was VERY difficult. Just do what he wants... not impossible to do well
Grades very harshly on papers.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Did not learn a thing from him. Class was a waste of tuition money. Grades VERY HARD. Impossible to get an A.
Professor describes what he wants very clearly. He's a great teacher but he is tough on grading essays. I would recommend
His class is very difficult if you do not have an aptitude for analysis of literature,(if you don't you will have to work your a** off) but he is available if you need him and he is a very energetic quirky, fun guy, and hes easy on the eyes ;)
I have had him for eng 1101 and 1102, he grades papers hard, but he is a good teacher- just follow the directions on papers.
Unclear at times...Grades hard as hell...Dont take if you dont have to
This professor is very interesting and helpful. Although his class wasn't easy, I learned more from this class than any other. He explains exactly what he expects from his students and grades fairly. I recommend this class to anybody. GREAT TEACHER
If you like to go to class to do nothing, take him. Class is mandatory. It is not boring, he is a really goofy guy. His handwritting is so horrible it is funny. There are very few assignments. He grading is somewhat difficult but very strict. Meet requirements! or you will fail the paper. Easy B, just do your work and turn papers in on time.
Extremely helpful and genuine. Accomodates for the class and is interested in making himself clear and understood.
LOVE HIM! [even though I hate lit and writting papers] You will only have three out of class papers and he will tell you EXACTLY what he wants and as long as you do that it's all fairly easy. He understands that not everyone loves English, so he makes it barable.
Loved Kesler, and is super nice, but he grades his essays ridiculously hard. He dances sometimes when he thinks no one is watching. He is tall and goofy, and extremely nice. If you arent that great at English, I wouldnt recommend him, but if you will work hard, do it. You will enjoy him and his red pen.
he is really nice && funny but his class is hard. he says one thing about what he wants then grades a completely different way. if you have a very creative mind and know how to use a billion adjectives and just make a simple sentence like "my dog went pee" sound crazy cool, then he is the teacher for you
Does not listen to you when you ask him questions. Stays in hs own world. Tells you one thing and grades different.
He grades very hard, and isn't clear on what he wants. I don't think a single person made a A on any paper in the class. Don't even try to read what he writes on the board, he forgets letters, slurs it all together, its basically chicken scratch. If you can, take a different teacher. He also has the energy of William Shattner, quite annoying.
INCREDIBLY EASY! the easiest english teacher i have had. real nice guy and funny. bad hand writing but the class really is the one to take .
Pretty much impossible to make an A. I DO NOT advise anyone to take his course.
Easiness1 Helpfulness3 Clarity2 Rater Interest1 He grades very hard, and isn't clear on what he wants. No one made an "A" in his class. Half the class dropped out. He is vague in what he wants and is no help at all. You must go to the writing center to get help, and if he is there, get someone else. Not a good teacher at all.
Giant nerd. Inconsistent with what he says he expects because he grades differently. Sought help but didn't get it. Came into class from A.P. Lit. with an A+ (100) but begged for a B- because he is extremely too picky. Only took him because he had an open seat right before registration. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!
not clear on the papers that he wants. No test only three papers in the class. you just need to have him stay on topic and not venture to the nerd side of him. He gives you an outline for the paper but grades differently. he can be rather a pain at times but keep asking questiong and get things in on time and you will walkout with an A in the class
Super easy grader!
Pretty cool guy. Grades papers pretty hard. Is sarcastic while answering questions about turning little assignments in which makes you think you dont have to turn it in but really you do.
Worst teacher I have ever had.Hardest grader. Isnt clear on what he wants. I wrote the best papers and he gave me D's. He trys to be smart while answering questions when students need clear answers. Grades like youre an english major. DO NOT RECOMMEND
I'm an international student and I enjoyed my very first literature class ever. Even though he is a hard grader, he is still smart and tries to be funny, even sometimes successful! The exam are very easy! I'd recommend him.
Great Hair, Amazing Singing Voice.
I'm not interested in World Lit and this class didn't improve my outlook on it at all. It was taught similarly to an 1101 class and we never interpreted the text. Instead, we covered context and plot summary. He taught from his notes which kept us on track but also limited us to what he had written down.
He was super cool and funny! Made class easy to stay awake, though not always clear on what he wants. There are 3 papers and an in class final whivh i made an 70,82,80 & 95. Recommend him fully!
Great Teacher ! I received a B in the class but then again i procrastinated with all of my essays. Do not procrastinate, and i promise you'll receive a good grade. He is helpful, and interesting. I recommend you take him
Was not clear on what he wanted in an essay. Hard grader. Failed the first essay and did not see myself doing any better in his class so withdrew.
He is really quirky and funny in his own little way. He makes sitting through classes easy, but I would not recommend him at all unless you are a professional writer or planing to be one. He grades essays ridiculously hard and is unclear on what he wants. He only likes one writing style and that is his own.
Very good professor who is always willing to help. I had him for 1101 and 1102. He makes class enjoyable and is very clear on what he wants from you in the essays.
I liked Dr. Kesler's class despite my grade. We only took two test the entire semester and two quizzes. Reading will help you a lot in his class. Taking notes will too. Eventually you will understand his handwriting and how he operates. As far as papers, it was hard for me to write a simple and to the point paper.
He makes it clear on what he wants from your essays. He also is available after class and during his office hours.
Very smart and knows what he's doing. He is rather tough on papers so you should be prepared to get any and all help you can get, including him. He is easily flexible on helping you get papers turned in. All you really need to do is exactly what he says and you'll end up with a least a B.
I love, love, LOVED Professor Kesler. He is funny, and helpful, and very well respecting of the views of each individual. He gives opportunities for you to use your work as an example to the class and corrects it for you. The final exam was an in-class essay that he allowed us to make a "detailed outline" for before we wrote it. HE IS GREAT!!!!
Kesler was amazing! I expected Eng 1101 to be much harder than it was, all credit given to this guy. Awesome material and super sweet guy. Plus he's hilarious. Just make sure to come to class and follow his instructions on his essays. 3 out of class essays and 1 in class essay. Not hard at all!
He is a funny guy and really helps with the class. You will have a hard time understanding what he wants at times but not much
Professor Kesler while a truly funny individual is not the best teacher. He is unclear about his expectations for his exams, and when you go to him during his office hours he still cannot explain what he is looking for. I came out of the class with a B, but that was mainly because his papers were so easy. Could be amazing with clarity.
Has unclear grading criteria. Doesn't seem like he grades based on content or effort.
He'll proofread something, and then criticize the final product. Basically he waits til you turn something in before telling you what needs to be fixed. He also doesn't tell you what he's looking for.
Kesler is super intelligent and very funny. His lectures are pretty long but they are helpful and interesting. He is clear on what he expects of you from the essays and exams. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and 46853/10 would take one of his classes again. He is easily one of my most favorite instructors at UWG.
Loved this class. He's a great instructor and really funny. Definitely take up his offer on stopping by his office to discuss anything you're curious about including your papers. He'll answer any question you have. His tests aren't bad if you actually study.
Kesler is one amazing English professor. We did not have any exams only 4 essays throughout the semester that had to be 3 pages. He gives good feedback and will help you develop thesis statements. You only need one book and you definitely going to use it and it's inexpensive.
Kesler was extremely scattered and wasn't so clear when teaching. I did not enjoy the class at all to be honest. I feel as if there are much better professors to teach the class. I received a C in the class, took it again with another professor the next semester and received an A.
Loved this class and this dude. I've taken one of his courses before so I knew what to expect. He's witty and his lectures are relatively engaging. His essays and tests are tough and he grades them that way too, but he gives good feedback. You get the grade you deserve tbh and you leave actually learning stuff.
He was a great teacher, funny too. There where only 4 papers. With the final being a in class essay. He is absolutely a tough grader. There are small homework task he requires you to turn in as well. He has a fast turn around time to questions, and is willing to help all the time.
Unclear about what he wants on his papers. Really scattered and all over the place. Writing is not my thing but I passed 1101 with a high B and my professor really helped me a lot which Kesler does not do. I cannot stress this enough HE IS UNCLEAR ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS ON HIS PAPERS. Yes he will give you an outline on it but he will not follow it.
This man is the worst English professor at the University of West Georgia. First, he doesn't really explain what he wants in his paper. He talks about how much he writes for one his classes and he expects are papers to be at his level. And secondly, he doesn't help the paper along the way. He always tells us to go the writing center if we need help
He had very few assignments over all, all of which are based on the readings for class.
Really cool guy who is very funny and easy to talk to. I took him for intro to the Art of Film ( ENGL 2080) . He is a thorough grader, but honestly since we are in college, that is to be expected. He will look at punctuation, MLA, and the quality of the content in your writing. the work load is very, but does want you to try your best.
Prof. Kesler was never clear on what he wanted you to write or talk about in your paper. He was very critical and particular on the MLA format and wouldn't give me a passing grade because my margins weren't one inch. I could have written better, less rushed papers but he was never specific with us in class and I did go to him for feedback, no help.
He puts nothing on course den so if you dont go to class you are screwed. Boring guy.
I had Professor Kesler for Film 2080 and he's a pretty good teacher. He's easy to get along with and he is very open to help if you have any questions. The films we watched were very interesting and I enjoyed how much he cared about what the students had to say and how he encouraged you to think further. Great class.
He is a really good Film professor. He is enthusiastic about the subject which makes the class more interesting. He works with the students very well. He talks with his students about how the tests would be made up. He is also really funny. I would recommend taking film with kesler.
Tough grader
Instructions were unclear and grading was tough, which isn't a great combination. There wasn't much variety in the assignments, and I didn't learn anything I didn't already know from high school. It was difficult to know exactly what he wanted, even when I listened to feedback. Mr. Kesler seems nice, but I'm not sure he even knows what he wants.
Tough grader would not take his class again!!
He didn't even seem to know what he was doing and he was very unorganized and was all over the place. The three times I went to class he treated me and my classmates like idiots who didn't know what quotations were. He also cancelled class due to close contact with someone positive with Covid THREE times so that's six weeks we missed of class
Professor Kesler has been a fantastic professor! He is enjoyable in this class and leads an engaging conversation within class time. He breathes new life into older works and truly loves what he does. He is also incredibly caring and wants you to succeed. I truly wish I had more classes with him but as I move up he is left behind. Never forgotten.
Attendance is taken mostly everyday so if you're not there you get a 0 for the day. All of the classwork is focused around 3 main essays. He provides a rubric for the essays that is pretty clear, but he definitely makes you work to get a good grade.
A very paper-heavy class. Lots of class time was devoted to going over the anatomy and construction of writing/editing a paper. I wish he were a bit more specific in his requirements for papers, but he gave you space to write about your own topics. Very helpful if you wanted/need help on your papers.
Jason Kesler is honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had in my life. I am somebody who is incredibly good at English and I have never gotten below a 90 in an English class for the past 18 years until I took his class. He grades incredibly harsh and the feedback and instructions he gives are super unclear. Do not take this class.
He is a teacher that sometimes will be all over the place. He grades very heavily, his feedback is very vague, and he is sassy sometimes.
Do not take him! Only reason I put a 2 is because he can be funny. Very tough grader. Feedback is very opinionated and he knick picks at the littlest things. Will have class only to talk for 10 minutes. Opens little pop assignments right when class starts and will close them right when it ends so that if you're not in class you will get a 0 on it.
Will grade you on participation...not just if you're there. Will walk around and look at your computer. Nice guy but way too strict and tough! Especially for an English class youre taking straight out of high school! Usually an A student in English and could barely keep a B in here! Way too picky with grading but not very clear on what you do wrong
Never makes assignments due at 11:59 so if you have a life, don't pick him LOLOLOL. He is OD with grading, and way too picky. PLEASE ONLY TAKE HIM IF HE IS THE LAST OPTION FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!! A very nice guy in general but when it comes to grading absolutely NOT!!!!!! It will be hard to get an B let alone a A. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Very tough grader & very opinionated when grading essays. I have never gotten below a 90 on an essay and have never struggled in English until now. He has a specific way he wants you to write your essays, like I said he's very opinionated and takes points off for the smallest things. Would not recommend at all.
Doesn't open assignments until the class starts, then closes the assignments after class is over, meaning you HAVE to go to class to know about small assignments (aside from essays) to receive a good grade, not very understanding as some people can't make it to every single class. Also makes assignments due early during the day instead of 11:59pm.
I have never had an issue with this professor. He is extremely funny and very active when it comes to lectures. Attendance does matter but he makes it clear in class when and how much not to miss! He is a tough grader but if you take his words and criticism into account you should have no problem. If you too AP/ Honors in HS, I would recommend him!
I would definitely take Mr. Kesler again. He is very caring, and he is hilarious. There are times when he would randomly give you an assignment and it is due on a Wednesday, but if you are a person that does their work when needed, it won't be difficult. He gives really good feedback on the essays also so that you can make a better grade next time.
Such a harsh grader. Get ready for your essay to be a 60/100
Professor Kesler does not respect women. I raise my hand all the time in class and he will randomly call on a boy who is not raising his hand instead of calling on me (a girl) who has her hand raised. He also makes fun of his female students and does not make fun of his male students. So disrespectful
When I entered his class on most days I dreaded knowing I would be there for a considerable amount of time do to his lack of organization. He repeats himself repeatedly about rubrics, the assignment at hand, and just banter. He picks at the smallest things on your paper and gives vague feedback as well as instruction. Take a different teacher.
The teacher will claim you are cheating without any proof. When ask for another chance he will tell you to deal with it. He is not understanding at all.
Professor Kesler was amazing, I'd highly recommend you take him. Just turn his work in on time, don't wait till the last minute and you'll be good.
He's a bit uptight and passive aggressive as it relates to the way you present a problem to him. Also things are due at 5, even if you get an extension. I mean other than that he's noble and very distinct body language, which kept me engaged, sort of.
Go to class and youll pass. His papers aren't hard if you put in effort. Easy class if you listen and do what he asks. Great guy and worked hard for his students even through he was sick.
Prof Kesler is a good teacher, but he is a tough grader for English 1102 You will have to write about 4 papers and attendance is not mendtory but I do strongly encougre that you go because every time I went I was thankful for more helpful information on future papers.
Professor Kesler was great! Awesome! Until I suggested we get a paper due at 11:59PM instead of 5PM. Very petty towards me after that and it affected my grade after class had already ended. He's a good teacher but don't disagree with him on things or suggest change.
Professor is impossible to please. He would encourage you to send him your rough draft, encourage changes, then deduct points from what he told you to change. He's decent until he feels challenged about your opinion or knowledge. He does not like to be wrong, you will not get a good grade on future papers if you do, speaking from experience.
Pr.Kesler is a good teacher but just a tough grader.
