It took me a while to warm up to him, but once I did I realized what a great teacher he is. His class is HARD, but he can teach. If you go to office hours he is super nice and very helpful. He really wants you to learn the material.
He will go voer problems with you outside of office hours. He will explain in class until you understand it. He will teach you. He's a kind guy. Good teacher. Not as easy as the other Calc 2 profs though. If I had a choice, I'd take his class again.
He can not sit in front of a class and teach. He will teach youthe basics and then test you on the exceptions, and rare instances. His projects pertain to nothing and are extreemly complicated to complete.

wow!!! he sucks..hes not my lecturer but i take his tests...man this guy is absoultely ridiculous...his projects have nothing to do with anyting you learn in class and the homework is pointless and his tests are so hard..hes terrible and he needs to start realizing that hes not teaching ****in grad students anymore...oi....dont take him, dont take him, dont take him!!!! please!!!! for your own god damn sake
I took this class because I wanted to take calculus, now I realize the error of my ways. This class is a weedout class. I wish I could have a Kozinski of my own to read lecture notes to me before bed because I have mild insomnia. The quizes and prodjects are fine, no problems. The tests are unfair for the amount of time alloted. Avoid, go to cc.
What can I say.. THE KOZ... he giggles like a schoolgirl and HES HOT. SAUSAGE FINGER HOTT!
Tough professor, projects are long and pointless, tests are rough. He acts like he is teaching a small group of students and doesnt realize that there are like 1000 kids in this class. Go to ****, it helps...
Dr. K, or "special K" is undeniably a badass. He is an awesome teacher and explains everything he expects covered with clarity. His exams are tough but you will be prepared for them if you do all the work. Dr. K is probably the nicest guy you will ever meet, you could punch him in the face and he will just smile and give you a hug. Really cares.
His tests are hard, his explainations are extremely confusing, and the "projects" are difficult and take a ridiculous amount of time to complete. He loves limits and trig functions and he expects you to remember everything from precalc.
Honestly, just stay far, far away from this class. His tests are ridiculously hard, and even if it was possible to stay awake during lectures, they dont prepare you anyways. TZ helps alot if you absolutely must take this class. Oh. And beware of the creepy man giggle and disturbing website picture.
AVOID KOZINSKI, HIS EXAMS ARE IMPOSSIBLE!Lectures=pointless, projects=incredibly time consuming for being worth 5 POINTS! Problems from projects covering exam 2 show up on exam one! His exam questions test the hardest, trickiest, and longest way possible to solve a problem. nice guy, but there's a problem when the class exam average is below 50%
a very tough class. very very time consuming projects are collected at random. tests r impossible. only attempt to take if you hvae had ap calc in high school- but even that will not help a bunch. unfortunatly he is the corrdinator so if u take calc 1, u got him. nice guy and personality tho...too bad he makes the tests.
The worst teacher ever.
I hate Jason Kozinski. He is ruining my life!!!!!!!!! If you have never taken a Kozinski exam, count your blessings.

Wow what a class! The projects are not to bad if done in a group but really unless you are eaither a calc genius or have had prior experience with calc it is one of the hardest classes ever. The tests make it this way they are beyond insane. There is never enough time to work the crazy problems the Koz comes up with. Evil evil class!
this professor is way too hard. his tests are harder than the AP exam by far. no way to avoid him because he is the cordinator for calc one so good luck.
His tests are nothing at all like his reviews. The questions are the most off the wall questions I have ever done.
This teacher is ridiculous. He is arrogant and self conscious, and it shows through his lectures. They are a waste of time and just confuse you even more. For someone who got a five on the AP test, I think it is ridiculous that i have to study hard to get an A. He takes simple material and complicates it for tests to where it's difficult.
You haven't been frustrated with Calculus until you've taken Calc with Kozinski. Lectures are useless, explanations too convoluted, and tests far more difficult than they should be. If you can avoid taking this class, do so.
The point of this class was to learn how to do calculus but he expects you to come in taking the class before, Just like Zach said there is easy, medium, and Kozinski questions, I hope he does retire soon
Avoid this guy at all costs. I came in with an 800 on SAT math and a 5 on AP Calc, yet feel that I've gone backwards in my knowledge of calc. His lectures and course pack are useless, and he offers little help to students that get confused.
Dr. Kozinski is a good professor. It seems like he’s been given a bad rating here not because of his ability to teach but because the posters are blaming him for their failure in the course. The tests are hard, but if you put some effort into the class you will do fine. Do not expect an easy pass just because you had AP calc in high school.
He's a fruit. Aced AP calc and this was still a ****. Hard ass tests but only goes over basics in lectures. I havent heard if he's helpful or not but he wasnt for me.
He defintely knows the material. He'll definitely teach it to you, but only the basic ideas. Then the tests are extreme applications for these concepts. I barely passed with a C, and I got a 7 on my IB Math Methods Exam. He claims that he is forced to make the exams hard, but jeez, teach more than the basics! Don't take if you're not too Math Savy.
Ridiculously hard, I came in with a 700 SAT math and even after AP Calc I ended up dropping this class because I was going to get a D+... Kozinski is a nice man but horribly difficult teacher, I have never had a class where I studied and still failed the tests... all you can do is go to **** and pray you have a good discussion T.A.
Warning to anyone taking 2311: You-can't-escape. He is the course coordinator meaning he sets the curriculum. You are virtually screwed if you don't do well from the very beginning. I had a 5 on the AP Calc and I don't care what any other people said about his teaching ability. He can explain fairly well, but his tests are beyond ridiculous.
I know a lot of people who had to change their majors because they dropped this class. There were a tests that had an averages below passing.
Dr. Kozinski teaches you how to shoot a BB gun then sends you bear hunting, then he acts suprised when you get mauled. He teaches the basic ideas in lecture, but his tests are extremely, ridciously, unnecessarily complex.
I have AP credit for Calc 1 and 2 and I retook Calc 1 in hopes of getting an easy A. Yeah right thanks to Kozinski I'm probably getting a C. Dont take this class he sucks.
good teacher. very clear. but thats because he ONLY TEACHES THE BASICS. book and notes are useless. there is no hope on his exams because they are absolutely IMPOSSIBLE. Everything seems easy in class and when you do your homework; but dont be fooled; im still tryin to figure out WHY HE MAKES THE LECTURES AND HOMEWORK SO EASY AND THEN SCREW YOU UP
Doing the assigned problem sets, attending lecture & discussion, and visiting your TAs during their office hours will grant you no more than a C on each exam. Had to switch majors because of this garbage.
OK, well for all of you that don't like going to lectures this class is for you. It doesn't make a damn whether you go or not. His tests are insane. I've never actually studied for hours on end and not aced the tests. I can do any problem in the book, but this dude pulls stuff out of his ass and makes CALC 1 as hard as is possible.
OK....Kozinski is not all that bad! I definately agree that the tests are rediculously difficult. But if you do the reviews and practice certain types of problems, you will do ok. He adds extra credit on the exams here and there and there are a few buffer grades with online hw and worksheets.
a good guy, very good at getting his point across (considering most other professors can't speak english). His tests aren't hard if you've taken AP Calc in high school and do the questions in the book. People who complain that his tests are just straight up stupid and they won't be back next year. Do some work and you'll get a B.
Dr. Kozinski is a very nice guy who made Calc I a very unenjoyable experience for nearly everyone in Fall 2005. His explanations are suitable for a kindergarten class while his exams seem like they are for a grad student. I passed with a B so I know it was possible to pass the class but he did make it very challenging.
...Lectures are ok, makes everything seem very easy, but the tests may even include some calc 2 with him being a previous calc 2 prof. never gives the exact average for class grades and test scored (cuz they are that bad)...be prepared to hate him...i got a D, retaking the course..
Cute little man, but his tests are absurd. Lectures are boring and rather pointless (as is homework). Projects are a pain but necessary since they collect them in discussion. Practice tests and **** are the way to go.
11 stars out of 10 for calculus 2. He was a great teacher. His exams were questions from the book. Easy B, not so-hard A (I got a B, I didn't take the optional final).
If he is still teaching MAC 2311 next semester at UF, BEWARE OF HIS CLASS. The only way to get an A or B in this class is to have had Calculus before - I made a C despite working my butt off. Homework and lecture examples are easy, but his exams are simply insane - he has screwed up many people's academic plans. Avoid if possible!!!
If you are not a very strong math person, good luck since you cannot avoid him. He's the curriculum coordinator. Otherwise you stand a reasonable chance of making a good grade. I'm a math person and I thought he put many hard, time-consuming, and involved problems on the tests. Come on, Dr. Kozinski, a simple problem's enough.
because I have to get a C+ for computer engineering hardware I have to take this class again. The Lectures were worthless. The Homework problems were worthless. You need those project/quiz points though or it will really mess you up when you need those few points. And you will.
If your thinking you want an A in this class you better be prepared to work really hard. His lectures are worthless and his tests are ridiculous. He tries to connect real life situations in his problems which makes them confusing. He always throughs trick questions on the test to drain points from you so be careful. A B in the class is possible.
his "real life" examples are not helpful and he should make his own practice test if he is not going to have similar test to the previous head of the department!
A nice guy, but not good at teaching those who have never touched calculus before. If you took AP Calc in High School you'll be fine.
I thought AP Calc in high school was difficult. Comparing this class to it, AP Calc was a breeze. His tests are completely unrelated to the lectures. The projects are supposed to be similar problems ( and problems you should know)to the test, which are not.If I did it over again definitely recommend a tutor or broward learning center.
"the koz" is a nice guy and willing to help you if you're stuck but as far as calc 1 goes...it sucks and is by far an insanely hard class!
I thought it was illegal to be harassed by a teacher, but taking his tests was as bad as dropping the soap in prison. The test doesn't match the lecutre to any possible extent and he enjoys making students fail. each test has at least 4 trick questions. He is a young guy that thinks he is god
Kozinski= failure. worst teacher I have ever had. no exaggeration.
unnecessarily difficult
Class is hard- everyone hates him but i think he was a good teacher he just made difficult tests. Somehow he managed to give me a C+ and made me still like him. he really loves math and he shows it. Just study and do your homework and don't be a slacker and you'll be alright.
I don't understand why everyone's giving kozinski a bad report. I got an A. Whenever u didn't understand sumthin all u had to do was go to him. The last 3 exams and the final was easy for me. I didn't realize ppl felt this way about kozinski til i read the comments, lol, oh well. Only take the class if u really REALLY like math.
I have never tried so hard and done so poorly in any class...ever.
Wait till Khuri or Crummer teaches this class.
This dude ripped on the TZ guy, not cool! Zach does nothing short of help us as much as he can and the Koz here pulls an ego trip in class.
Absolutely horrible. His lecture book doesn't pertain to anything close to what the exam will look like. He just gives easy examples and then completely makes the test 10 times harder. I just go to **** and the guy there is amazing and that is really the only way I am passing the exam. If you need this class dont have him
He's helpful and clear, that's no doubt, BUT HIS TESTS DO NOT RESEMBLE CLASS MATERIAL IN THE SLIGHTEST SENSE. You can't avoid him because he's head of the department. Just study as hard as you can and get as many practice tests as you can.
Tests are impossible. Get out now.
I had Dr. Kozinski for advanced calculus 2 during summer C. His tests/quizzes were difficult (fortunately some were take home), but he was clear and explained concepts thoroughly. Dr. Kozinski is very nice and caring. He is also very helpful during his office hours and doesn't try to make you feel like an idiot like many math professors like to do
His tests are really hard. He is a pretty good lecturer just don't zone out and go to class. Only problem is he doesn't explain everything like algebra crap I didn't know. Go to TZ it was awesome. I hated freakin discussion stupid long projects and pop quizzes. Just study your self! STUDY STUDY STUDY and do practice exams!!!
This guy is evil. He talks to you like as if the work is so easy in a condescending attitude, but its not the same work he puts on his tests. For example he would say that x+y=2 would be on the test, in reality, he would put ln(X)times the integral of y to the e^59 power. and then ask you to solve for what he had for breakfast. I hope he retires.
Nice guy, and I'm sure he means well, but seriously, the tests are beyond impossible. Calc 1 is obviously a weed-out course, but this is just ridiculous. I even know of some Calc AP students who had to drop out of class. If you've never taken Calc before (like me), I highly recommend you take this class elsewhere.
I wish i could post what i wrote on my teacher evaluation paper
This was by far and away the worst class I have EVER taken. Wayyyy harder than pre-calc. Hardest tests ever. I DONT LIKE THIS GUY!
OH MY GOD! Do not take this man at all, you can not avoid him unfortunately. I dropped this class and i know 25-30 people (my friends) who dropped also. Take this class at another institution because he is not going anywhere, unfortunately!! All in All, he sucks!!!
He is REALLY frustrating. He doesn't teach the material very well, and then he expects you to know WAY more than he taught for the exams. There IS a reason that they are evaluating his class. Also, he goes over the end of the period EVERY time. Since he's the course director you can't avoid his tests, but take a different lecturer, PLEASE!
the lecture notes do not correspond to the exams he gives..be prepared!!! get outside help if u can.
Worst teacher ever, does not do good lectures, the worst course co-ordinator you can get so drop the class and take it during summer.

Bring back Khuri!
Avoid this class all together. This guy is rutheless and is out to fail as many students as he can. He thinks it is good when 2/3 of the class have a D! Doesn't care at all about his students and doesn't even use his own notes for lecture.
avoid this class at all costs. take mac2233 if you can. if not, take it over the summer or go to **** or else you will probably fail and die trying.
I recommend this class if you took AP calc or really like math. Otherwise, it is really hard (according to the other comments). I took AP calc and easily got an A in this course. The tests come from the notes, go the discussions and review the quizzes to study. Be aware that this is a weed out course.
Trick questions on tests not related to notes, lectures, or study guides in an attempt to fail as many students as possible. I do not reccommend this course to anyone - go to USF to take this course. He makes up the tests for all sections. The adminstration is aware of this situation but chooses not to do anything about it. BEWARE !!
As long as you're prepared to work (yes, this is college calc) you'll be fine. Other students were upset because he doesn't throw the answers at us or make the tests easy, but his mission is not to fail us. Too many student are blaming their own failure to learn on his teaching, which is not at all fair. If you're good at math his course is fine.
His tests are, by in large not based on the homework, or the two varieties of online homework. The TA barely has time to gloss over the many topics for the week. Clearly, as the poster below states, you need to come into this class already "good in math" to be ok, because you will not learn it here. You only will be tested on it.
While he may not be attempting to fail students, he doesnt do anything to help them. I got an A in precalc which is supposed to be harder and barely passed this class.
he is a good lecturer and might trick you into thinking the material is easy but once you take one of his test you will realize that he wants to test you beyond what is necessary. You will hate him and join a anti-kozinski facebook group, no matter how well you know math. if a test is easy one semester doesnt mean it will me the next beware and GL!
He is an evil man. evil. Do not take this course. please heed my warnings. Anyone but Kozinski. I would lose weight studying for his exams, i would eat sleep and drink calculus all to get a C because he would ask you to do the double dirivative of something you have to do the chain rule and quotient rule to. He needs to make his own lecture notes
There is a way to do well in this class (get an A and have a life), however that either means 1 of 2 things. 1) you have taken calculus before and done well or 2) you will take this class with the knowledge that it requires a significant amount of work and the rest of your course load be light.
Seems like a nice guy in class, tends to giggle when no one knows the answers to the questions he asks during lecture. Tests are very very tricky if you aren't a math genious and the questions consist of all the "exceptions" to everything he teaches. GOOD LUCK!
good lecturer... except, his lectures do not prepare you for exams (if that makes any sense) The exams are impossible, nothing like homework or lecture notes. I took this class knowing how difficult it would be, I figured if I put enough work into it I would be fine.... I had to drop it. If you have to take it for a major or something, get a tutor!
His class is challenging. I kept up with all homework, went to every lecture, took practice quizes, and exams FOR HOURS. No matter how much I prepared I never felt ready for tests (and I wasn't), but neither were many others, judging by the number of people still writing furiously at the end of all of them. I used to like math before this semester.
kozinski is an evil man. he seems like a soft-spoken teddy bear, but seriously, he's evil. he doesn't use his own lecture notes, so his tests don't match up with what he taught in class. his tests are nearly impossible. good luck to anyone taking his class...
lim d d-> infinity Where d= difficulty.
It is unfortunate that it is not Khuri who is teaching the course.
Ridiculous course. Unnecessarily difficult. The only way to do well is if you're really good at math or you've taken calculus before.
I aced Calculus I in high school and failed this class twice!! Sadly he is the director and cannot be avioded. His lecture notes barely correlate to his impossible exams. I studied until I dreamt calculus and still did poorly... twice! He is evil and so are his exams.
Yes, this class is difficult but not impossible to pass. As long as you don't walk in expecting an A in the course you will do fine. I walked away with a C+, not something I wanted but I'm not a math person. Unfortunately a lot of pre-med and engineer kids HAVE to take this course. Don't freak out, but be ready to work.
This class is very challenging. His test are extremely hard. I studied like crazy for all his exams and still did bad.
His lectures seem clear while you're sitting there...but when it gets down to studying for the tests, it leaves you scatterbrained. His tests are way too difficult, and I consider myself a decent student. If this is a required class for you--just suck it up, be prepared to do poorly, but don't definitely give up!!!
Apparently most college professors in math departments view calc 1 and calc 2 as a not respected group of classes. Because of that the good math professors teach math majors. If you pass even with a D you'll be feeling the d for done philosophy.
he smiles when he teaches because he's thinking of how many people he's going to fail on the next test.
for my final the practice test was 10000 times easier than the actual test....... I scored 100% in the practice test without any help and I got a 50% in the actual test.......... he wants us to fail!!!!! YOU WILL FAIL!!!. I got a B though
I am a good student. I study like crazy. The fact that I had a private tutor and barely got a C+ shows how difficult he makes this course. He is a good teacher just a horrible test writer. His tests were like nothing I could have prepared myself for. His tests are made to trick and confuse you. So suck it up and good luck!!
I never took Calculus in my life before taking Kozinski. From reading these ratings, I was scared, but pulled out a B+ with not as much studying as I should've. He's not THAT bad...he could've been much much worse, such as not giving so many extra credit opportunities. You still must study quite a bit.
I did every problem for the homework 3 times. I studied 5 hours a day on calculus and i lost 17 pounds in weight. I had calculus dreams. When I got the exams, it was nothing like the homework. See for yourself. The failure rate on his classes are about 50% as well. The facts speak for themselves. Go to Santa Fe, avoid the nightmare.
I can't say how happy I am to see all these negative comments. This guy is the worst teacher I've ever had. Why the administration put an incompetent grad student in charge of a 4000-level class, I'll never know. I couldn't make heads or tails of his lectures, and he never assigned homework for practice. He's an embarrassment to the university.
nice guy, bad teacher. Class is boring and dry. the information is poorly administered via slides. You will fall asleep if you can bare to attend the lectures.. and when you get the test you will understand that being awake would not have helped you. nothing can save you!
A girl came to his office and told him she didn't understand why she was still failing his tests when she studied for weeks at a time. He told my friend not to worry and that if HE were taking his tests he'd be struggling too. wtf?
He SUCKS the class is too tough for anyone to pass with any grade above a C... trust me dont waste your money, I struggled so much and I was going to **** on top of that... his tests are nothing like his lecures, and plus the TAs dont teach us anything... the class is doomed they need new TAs and a new teacher... hopefully the administrati
i got out of high school having completed calc 2, and had to take calc 1 coming to college (various reasons) and i got an E in his class. i know how to do math, i'm good at it, i actually like it. but this dude messed up my math grade...and that's pathetic. it's true what ppl say about him, he's retarded.
Boring teacher but you can't blame him, even more boring subject. Class is mostly examples, but that is the best way to learn the material. Skipped a good amount and stil got a B+
His class is simply an embarassment to UF. They want to be a top 10 research Univerisy but they subject there undergrads and post-baccs to this class. This class is crap if you want to learn and pass calculus. The Koz acts all laid-baick and nice, but he is NOT. He is a poor teacher and does not prepare you for tests. No respect: Koz + UF= crap.
... Umm if you're not an engineer or a firm believer that Math is da center of the universe then u will most likely hate his class. His tests, lecture, and projects are all completely different so I realized half-way through that all that mattered for an exam was 75% practice test, 20% notes, 5% projetcs.Final kicked my a** took me from an A to B.
Crazy head prof. Easy to get an A if you are only taking this class and study 24/7 for it.
IF you do decide to take this class, go to ****! if it wasn't for them the small percentage of the class that did not fail or drop out would not have passed.
Yeah, TZ all the way, its the best source out there and worth the money.
evil spawn. i am not a hateful person, but i would not urinate on kozinski if he was on fire.
ok seriously people i got an A and i skipped a TEST.... it was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy, people just dont study and then they fail and then they blaim it on him, honestly he's mediocre at best as a teacher but he is way easier than people say
He's very hard to learn from. The way to survive in this class is to 1) Go to **** (seriously, you need this) 2) Do all the practice problems and make sure you can do every single problem on the practice test. 3) Do decently on the quizzes. As for Kozinski, his lectures are mediocre at best.
He knows his calculus in an out, and he communcates it well, unless you're deaf. Calculus can be difficult, but obviously, people DO ace his tests...like me...if you fail his class, you either lack intelligence or will power...either way, I don't want you as an engineer building a faulty structure, or a doctor who malpractices. weed outers are good
Comment 1 and 3 below me have to be written by a TA, Kozinski himself, or a kissass student. Ive heard the engineer/doctor comment from Kozinki last spring. He is a super nice guy, which makes it biased to say he is a good teacher. This class is tough, you have to keep up, he expects you to know everything about math. TZ saved me! Check it.
horrible teacher. his techniques and ways of explaining things are ridiculous. had i not already taken calculus i would have been lost. i feel bad for those who were taking calc for the first time
I have no idea what these posters are talking about, Kozinski is a GREAT professor and he teaches exactly what you need to know for tests. Obviously you are required to study, do work and you should be attending all lectures/discussions. It really helps to have the notes and student guide from target copy because there are past exams to study from.
He might be a hard professor but he sure knows his stuff. He teaches you one new concpet and then expects you to know all the ways around it. It's not that bad but it sure does make you take some time out to study.
Good class to take in the morning... Helped me get enough sleep for the rest of the day. He looks a little sad when he walks in wearing his purple sweater and little umbrella so I think you guys should give him a hug. About the material though, it was all bologna and I taught Calculus better to myself!
This teacher is the reason they created that anxiety program for students who can't take test well. He teaches fine and is willing to help you out however the test are ridiculously hard and he shows no sympathy. Take the class at your community college and you'll get an A. Tough it out wit kozinski and you'll be kursing his name everyday
Count me as a bright freshman who has now dropped calculus and will be taking it at CC over the summer. I worked my ass off, but you clearly had to already know calculus before taking this class. When I pay my money I'd like to be taught the subject, not weeded out and made to feel dumb. The way this class is taught is a bad reflection on UF.
For all who are nervious due to the unhappy face next to kolzinski's name there is no need to be alarmed. The class is hard if you have never taken calc before. I myself took IB and AP calc in high school and found the class to be easy. Study, pay attention, go to review sessions and dont assume and you will pass(all depends on your ta's grading)
Most of you will be stuck taking this class for major prerequisites anyway, so whining about the teacher wont do much. His lectures are clear and easy to follow, as long as you pay attention. Having said that, dont be fooled, the tests are MUCH harder than what you go over in lecture. My advice, attend discussions and ask questions!

He's a very good professor, despite what some say. class is easy to pass, the test are hard and very tricky, but fun. if you are confident in your math skills dont be scared by what others say. just study a little bit and do the practice test and you are almost guaranteed a good grade. i took AP calc and got a 1 in the test, got an A in his class
only goes over easy materials and doesn't even explain that well. tests are very tricky. be ready to study a LOT and you'll be lucky if you pass.
Hard for no reason at all, Kozinski is a moron, he'll piss you off given that you take his class, he'll explain a simple expression, only to get hard on the tests, he'll teach you what 2+2 is and then on the test make you factor equations, bad analogy but you get the point, try to get out ASAP
Very thorough and is able to teach to suit a variety of students.
I think the problem isn't that the course is difficult but rather many freshmen take it and many of them are just plain lazy. If you do all the homework and UNDERSTAND it, you should at the very least get a B+ or a low A. He gives extra credit on his exams.
Class is all about the tests. All tests are made by him and are tricky. His lecture notes are pretty simple and dont reflect the material on the tests that well. Fairly hard to get an A unless your confident on your math skills.
I took AP Calc and got a 1 on that test but get a B in the class, so it is possible. It will be better/easier if you have a calculus background though! Try to get Jaingtau Lao (or something..) for your TA, very easy grader, you'll get a 9/9 on every test and all your participation points! Also very helpeful!
Kozinski was excellent at getting the point across and making it easy to understand. I took AP Calculus AB in high school and got a 4, but have a much more full understanding of calculus after taking his class.
Frankly I don't care for this guy...he uses old notes that previous professor had. Very lazy with his teaching...class as a whole sucks including the TAs who can't speak english worth crap...but I think thats the math departments fault!
extremely difficult. your TA determines your grade, if they are easy theres hope, if you get one like me you're screwed now matter how much you know
i had a low A grade in his class despite his hard tests (if you haven't taken calc 1 before...good luck to you). I had about 93% in his class until the final. his final is extremely hard. it's like two times harder than his regular tests. i dropped down to a B and missed b+ by like a point or so...yea...the TAs can't speak english.GL to you....
He has a bad rep of being hard. This is true. But the way to get around it is to not assume you know the material if you have taken calculus in high school and use the past exams to your advantage. Do the past exam he gives you and the ones given in the Broward Math Lab. These tests are the same format but different numbers as the ones he gives
IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS STUDENT, DON'T LISTEN TO THE OTHERS!!! If you have taken AP Calculus and got at least 4, you would never come to this class and still get an A. I needed a D on the final to maintain my A!!!! All you gotta do is to read book and do all the odd numbered problems and work on his review sheets and practice tests.
The guy is simply sick. Avoid if you can!!!
I had never taken calculus before and barely passed his class. He is not good at explaining things, and the final was so hard I basically guessed on every question. If you get a good TA it helps but I would avoid him at all costs if you can. Nice as a person though...
His tests arent that bad. Just do the practice exams and you should be fine. There is extra credit on every test. You get to drop your lowest test score. His final was a bit tougher than the regular exam. An A is very possible as long as you study.
Horrible class, tons of work. You need to study every single day for at least 2+ hours if you hope for anything above a C. Don't slack, and don't miss a class/discussion group. Once you're lost you're lost for good.
Avoiding Kozinski is like avoiding sitting down and studying. It sucks, but you got to go through it. He is the one who made the course afterall. He grins with joy watching the whole suffer in confusion as he goes over the lectures. The test questions only cover very strange exceptions to rules you learn in lecture. His office hours are limited.
Nice guy and a good teacher but the class was difficult. If you are struggling you just have to do the book work and go to Broward Math Lab its REALLY helpful, they got me through the class. His free response questions on the test are similar to his practice problems of lectures and the exams are similar from year to year so study previous exams.
tough class. in my opinion, the hardest out of all UF calc classes (inc calc 2 & 3)
his tests are ridiculous! calc is already hard enough he doesn't have to try to trick you on every question too!
Didnt have Kozinski for a lecturer, but as a course instructor, it was the hardest earned B+ ever. His tests are filled with many tricks, which I didnt feel gave me a grasp of calc 1. Broward Tutoring helped alot as well as the old exams..his problems tend to be similar from old exams just a lil harder. making an A is possible but requires devotion
I took this class last semester thinking that I'd review calc 1 again (I got a 4 on AP calc AB) before jumping into calc 2 and it would be an easy A class. Bad Idea. I actually had to study HARD in order to get a good grade in this class. His tests are... nothing like the examples he does in the class.
Insane pace makes it hard to learn the material before the next lecture; very easy to fall behind.
HARD CLASS! tests are really difficult. HW is okay, just do it. Practice to get better grade and make use of ****
obviously, the man is a math-nazi. his tests are unnecessarily tricky and difficult. but i will give him this, he knows calculus inside and out, and will make sure you do, too. unfortunately, the other posts are right. its very, VERY helpful to have taken the class already. if not, well, study hard. you'll have to.
I think Kozinski is a great teacher - his lectures are very clear, he gets the main point across, understands the subject very well, and is always willing to help with questions after class. I never used the book, I simply paid attention in lecture and went to the discussions and that was enough. Paying attention to the lectures is VERY IMPORTANT.
The mathematics that is taught isn't hard..it's the tests that are the problem. Most students that are doing well have had Calc. II and III already. If this teacher isn't avoidable for you, find someone who can really sit down and tutor you one on one style. Good luck.
I had never taken any calc at all before. I went to **** for every exam and I studied the review problems from class and tutoring. Considering this, I earned a C easily. If you like calc and are good at it, you will be fine. If you don't make yourself study and you can still do well.
avoid at all costs!! this class made me change my major...tests are nothing like the material he teaches...ive heard a couple people say he teaches at the graduate level, even my TA was lost most of the time and i went to ask him for help and he was EXTREMELY rude...
Hard class...Must get tutoring help...This class is extremely difficult to get an A in but its mandatory and there is no avoiding THE KOZ! He is mean and hard. Tests are insanely difficult only because he is a "good" teacher and thinks you can understand things on his level. Have a good understanding of "ln" and "e^x".
Extremely difficult to the point of having around a 50% passing rate. True, if you get through the class you know your Calc, but this class is not worth taking if you can get by with Survey of Calc. Tutoring helps a lot though and it's not impossible to do well, it just takes a lot of extra work.

The course is good, Kozinski just isn't a good teacher. He not only tries to make it difficult, but I and many of my friends were actually denied help from him when attempting to understand how to get from the problem he gave to the answer that was found in the book. warning: It's often difficult to understand what he is asking in his questions.
HARD ASS TESTS
hard tests ridiculous projects. went to **** and even that didn't help had to drop.
really good lectures, hard exams.
porjects are extremely hard and useless for the tests and course, online assignments take four hours and are due on saturdays, tests are ridiculous.
Helps to have some backsground in calculus. Lectures are boring. Doing homework and practice problems are a must for understanding the material and getting a good grade.
First of all, TZ is a must if you want to get a good grade in this class. The examples in lecture are nothing near how difficult his tests are. My advice: go to the math lab, go to TZ and study at least a week ahead of each exam. This guy sits in his office all day and must think of the most difficult questions to put on tests!
Kozinski knows his stuff. However, he just can't transfer his passion for calculus into his teaching skills. Lecture was boring and I learned nothing from it. Getting a good grade isn't impossible if you devote your semester to calculus and do TZ.
Passing this class is not impossible. Study hard for the first test it is not as easy as you will think. If you want an A, firsy go to class, second start studying week & half prior to test, third do the book work(IT helps!! a lot of his questions come from the book) finally do all the little stuff, it adds up. Do this you get an A.
This class is very difficult. In addition to studying for Calculus itself, you must study Kozinski's tricks on his tests. This is a weed-out course, and it is meant to make students drop/fail. Studying old exams and going to TZ will help a lot. The TZ packet for the final did not help at all, so do the practice final in the blue book.
This class is a weed-out class. I first took it in fall and had to drop. I took it a second time and did much better. Tricks to do well is keep practicing over and over his old exams, especially his final. You must go to lecture to get clicker points, and TZ is the best help to doing well.

One of the worst calculus 1 teachers Imaginable. He goes over simplistic examples in class, teaching them poorly, then on the tests, you have to figure out the most difficult types of questions with no previous experience unless you went through every problem of the sections yourself in the textbook and taught yourself how to do them. BAD
CONSIDER THIS YOUR WARNING! Worst Calc 1 teacher ever. Go to TZ. It's the only reason I passed this class with a C. Take this somewhere else and make sure you can do the blue book problems, helps with free response.
In two words: weed out. the college of engineering loses half of its undergrads to warrington in this class. zach from TZ saved my grade, it's a MUST. Two years later and I still can't figure out that damn rabbits and wildflower question from the second test.
I figured I'd post a review unlike the others: If you do the practice problems, old tests, and use any external tutoring resources, you should do fine in this class. I did all of this and got an A (95%). This is coming from someone who scored 550 on the math portion of the SAT. It's doable. Honestly, his tests are almost verbatim of past tests .
weed out! i had to drop this class because i didn't really know what i was getting into. took it at FAU instead and got at A. kozinski knows what he's doing and seems clear in lectures, but when it comes to exams, its a different story. i have to be fair though and say that this class is doable.. do blue book problems and go to TZ reviews!!
Horrible Teacher! Do every project and online homework, you will need all the extra points you can get. For his class you need 300 pts to get a C. I had 299 at the end of the semester and I fought with both my TA and Kozinski. They would not negotiate the one point.... I am taking it again in the Fall
Kozinski is one of those professors that you think you are lucky to have because he doesn't have an accent, but after his first test you start knowing THE KOZ. I advice to all to just focus on EVERY pass exams. That is the only way to pass his exams. They are almost the same. Don't let him get you! you need every point possible, so don't slack off
Kozinski is the worst prof I've had. His tests were nearly impossible. The lectures are oversimplified and mostly a waste of time; no one went to them because it didn't do any good. I know people who did well in AP calc and were struggling to pull a C in his class. If you can avoid MAC2311 at UF, do it. Otherwise, good luck!
Tests and assigns uselessly intricate, tricky problems meant to be misread. Supposedly on probation for high drop/fail rates. If you can avoid him, do it.
I hope he someday reads this comments and realizes what big mistake he's making by making the class so hard, that is no way to teach us, is just a way to make us suffer. It's not normal for 900 people out of a class of more than 1000 to fail...I think his methods aren't just right...SO, if you don't wan't to struggle, just don't take the damn class
I took AP Calc in high school and passed, but since I'm majoring in engineering I chose to take it again. That was a big mistake. This class is a complete waste of my time. I occasionally go to lecture and still understand the majority of the hw and projects w/o using the book. Also the notes taken in class are completely useless and make no sense.
OMG this teacher makes everything seems 100x more confusing than it should. I have never heard so many bad comments about a teacher in my life. This is the worst class i have ever taken. Kozinski makes learning math impossible. Hes so selfish and doesnt seem to care about his students at all. Please please please dont take this class!
Don't take calc with this man if you have a choice
wow! this guy is crazy. he has no idea what he's doing. He solves problems all day in class but dosn't explain anything. GO TO TZ!!! i have never taken calc before, and not to be cocky, i went to TZ and got and 83% on exam 1 (better than most of my friends who had all that AP and IB calculus background) GO TO TZ!!!
I have taken up through Diffy Q in high school, but decided to go back to Calc I so I could get an "easy A" and build a strong foundation for calc. Big mistake. If you have the AP credit, go into Calc II. If you are in Honors, take Honors Calc instead. If you HAVE to take this class, go to TZ!
Piece of cake!!!! The only reason anyone does good at UF is because of tutoring zone. What a shame.
He is probably one of the hardest professors you'll encounter at UF. His tests are Extremely Difficult and his notes arent very helpful. About 90% of the class goes to TZ for help, to finally understand what evil K said in class. STUDY, do the quizes, and math problems in the book. Good Luck!
Worst teacher ever. Makes an easy class seem hard. Skip to calc 2 if u can. and if u take this class expect to have to remember everything you have ever learned in math and physics
I learned Calculus in high school. so he is kind of useless to me anyway. Because of the big class size, so he can only show you the definitions in class and you have to do the homework and do the questions yourself. which is kind of hard for a lot of people. He is always ready to help though if you go to his office hour.
He really enjoys math and thinks that all his students enjoy it as much as he does. I was very good at math prior to this class, but he makes it very difficult. He is the best lecturer, but he makes the test and they are VERY difficult. You have to study your butt off to pass this class. If you can, skip it and take Calc 2, it will be easier!
hes not soooo bad, but he is rather hard. do not take the class if you do not have a VERY strong calculus background, i have one, and i still have tu study, he is very helpful and nice during office hours, and does not mind explaining things over and over. go over lectures after class is over at home. it helps. do the reviews he gives and old exams
his class is really not that bad as long as u put a reasonable time into studying..mostly everyone fails the first test which is eventually dropped if its ur lowest test score, but if you've had calculus before then the tests after the first one are really not that bad.. GO TO CLASS- its really helpful and plus u get clicker points:)
good if you go talk to him, test HARD
I was a mathlete in high school, so I was good at math. Somehow, his class didn't seem real. I just couldn't comprehend it. Maybe it was my lecturer, but he could maybe give examples that were possible to understand. You have to study more than you've ever studied before to pass this class. And go to tutoring. Tests are hard! Homework is hard!
If you're not a genius than you have NO CHANCE in this course. TZ is the ONLY way to succeed!! Listen to US! 28 pages of BAD rating CAN'T POSSIBLY be WRONG!!!!!! Take the course ELSEWHERE!
If you don't live, breath, eat and sleep Calculus you have no chance! I took Precalc at UF before going into his class and it did nothing! Please, listen to everyone who tells you to take it at a community college! I wish I did!
I'm a physics major and find this class MUCH harder than necessary. Tests are hard, which are about 75% of your grade(including final). Avoid Kozinski at ALL costs!!!
Well, this class was very difficult, but managable if you have a STRONG calculus background. I got a 70 on the first test and 93s on the rest. Your TA is crucial. GOOD news he isnt teaching this course anymore. Shu-Jen Huang is, BAD NEWS he is doing CALC 2. :( Sucks for that course
His tests were easy if u read the questions clearly. He liked to put trick questions and he made questions hard if it was an easy concept we learned about. Everyone taking him for Calc 2 next year i heard it was pretty impossible cuz its classes of 30 people
I'm not particularly smart, nor am I very hard working, yet I'm still acing this class. Most important thing is to spend time on homework and projects. Some people go to class just to get the points for attendance, well, obviously you're not going to learn much if that's the case. He just doesn't give us enough practice, otherwise, he's fair.
Dont let the rumors discourage you from taking him. All you need to do is put time into the tests and you'll do fine. I didnt have his lecture, but i had boyland's- do not take boyland.
Aside from the first test which I though was ridiculous I managed to get a B in the class. (Its pretty good for someone who took only up to algebra II in high school then took AP Stats). His test are fair don't let the rumors scare you he's a pretty good lecturer actually. This is just a class you have to put work into.
This class really isn't that bad. I'm guessing all these these horrible comments are from students who thought it was going to be an easy A. Of course you have to study a lot and do your homework and take good notes. Doing all that, though, an A in the class is very possible.
I didn't think he was that bad at all. I think the ones who didn't like him were mostly the ones who failed. The first test was easy if you are good with pre-calc, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th got steadily easier and the final was ridiculous. That's just my opinion though because some people didn't get perfect scores on it.
Hes is a very good teacher and he knows what hes doing but.....his lectures are fast and weird...the tests are worth too much the homework is worth too little...and the final is ridiculous..The average grade is like a D...but you have to work for that C
From what i thought after the first test it wasnt' that bad as i got an A on all of the others and aced the final. If you are not strong in math and analytical skills i recommend not taking him but otherwise, he is the best lecturer. Only the 1st test was very hard...all the others you just had to study for and know the material. Easy A for me.
i just took this class last fall and had shu jen's lectures in the morning. the only reason i took this class is because they "suggested" it. i had calc 1 credit from high school before. my suggestion if you have credit already is dont take it. i barely got an A in the class and the exams are rather difficult. study hard.
Hard class-requires a lot of work. I managed to get an A though through TONS of studying before each exam and TutoringZone. The exam reviews at TZ are a MUST!
Unfit for teaching at any level
really really hard class in my opinion. The only way i did well was go to TZ weeklies and studied my a** off. I did not understand anything in the lectures. He is a nice guy when you talk to him but thats not really worth much. Id avoid him unless you really genuinely are a math person or you're ready to devote your life to calc
Class is not that hard...just takes practice. I fell alseep during lecture and did not take notes at all, learned what I didn't know from the book. Just do the online homework, and if you get it you'll do fine. Not hard. Just takes practice.
His test are very hard. The best thing to do is go to TZ and study the packetsif you want to do well. I probably would have failed without TZ but I ended up with an A in the class.
You pretty much have to go to TZ to pass this class. Kozinski makes things too complicated. He will spend an entire class complicating a 1 minute concept.
Go to class for clicker points; they are a good percentage of the grade. Tests hard, final impossible. Really nice and undestanding in office hours but cannot teach. Avoid if you can.
He makes things way too difficult, just go to class for clicker points and talk with your TA's, not him!
Be warned that he teaches calc 2 now. I learned it this moringing when he walked into my calc 2 class. I instantly transffered to another class. I personally don't know a single student who liked him when they had him for calc 1.
His lectures were borderline pointless, his projects were rediculous, and his first test was out to fail everyone. From the second test on they became fair. He practically gives free points for participation and WebAssign. Overall if you have not taken calculus before at UF and have "the Koz", drop him immediately and find another teacher.
easy class. got a high a. pretty much tells you the answers if u just look at old exams. easiest class taken at uf
Just go to tutoring zone. Zach will teach you everything you need to know, and do it 100 times better than K-dog. Study old tests, and look through TZ packet. He reminds me of the woodlen creatures from south park. He's nice then kills you on the tests!
By far worst teacher i've had at UF. makes even the simplest things seem impossible. tests are ridiculous.
Not a good teacher. In order to be successful in this class, you either have to be naturally adept to math or have had a really good calculus teacher/background whereas you learend all the material already. does not make it easy to be successful without these prior tools! avoid!!!!
I had the Koz for Calc I and II. His tests are difficult but not impossible. Attending class is really helpful, I didn't for Calc I but actually look forward to Calc II... I hated calc up to UF but honestly Kozinski is inspirational! He's sharp, is willing to follow student reasoning and able to help. Do all work and you will be fine!
This guy is the most confusing man on the planet.
Honestly, this was the hardest B I ever earned. I always attended lectures, but the material wasn't always covered well. Our first test only had a 15% passing rate, and I passed by only one point. The rest of the tests aren't bad until the final. He's approachable and nicer than I expected...he even wrote me a rec.
While I did not take his Calc 1 sections, for Calc 2 he is extremely fair and there are multiple ways to bring up your grade if you mess up on some aspect or another. I would highly recommend him for Calc 2, don't be like myself and be hesitant about class with him. A decently easy A,if you study properly. HW represents Test and Quiz questions well
Maybe in a couple of years he'll be better.
Horrible professor. Refuses to help students. I and many friends have gone to his office hours, emailed him, etc on a couple extremely difficult questions in which we were already provided the answers, and he refused to show any of us how to work the problems he himself had written. Our TA's didn't know how to solve them, and my grad student frie
As with most hard subjects, it's easy to blame the teacher; kozinski's really good at what he does, but most don't recognize it because they're too busy complaining about the work. if you like math and understand the fundamentals, you'll have no problem
Great Calc 2 teacher! Very hard, but if you do the homework and study you will do fine. You will actually learn and understand calc 2 by the end of the semester.
Awesome Calc II teacher especially in a small class. If you study the work and ask him for help (which he is more than willing to help) you'll do fine. He's very enthusiastic about the class and he is pretty good at explaining this during class.
calc 1 sucks with this man. maybe he's changed w/ calc 2, but 1 was a def weed out. tests are far too difficult, hw is the same, and as a prof- he just plain sucks. avoid if possible, suck it up if necessary.
Calc 2 is a hard class, but Kozinski is extremely helpful, especially in office hours. He actually cares how you do and is willing to help you with anything. If you keep up with the class and hw, you'll do fine on the tests and in the class. He's a great teacher in the small classroom setting.
Class was easy. Call it remedial calc if you will. Has no trig. He explains everything pretty well, goes over subjects a lot just to get you to understand it through pure experience if nothing else.
Class was fair, not too difficult if you put some effort in.
Class doesnt seem so bad during lectures. Totally different story for tests. Practice tests don't help, tutotringzone doesn't help, nothing helps! Wait until next fall to take this class. He isn't teaching it.
He races through the hard concepts and takes forever on the easiest types of problems. Exams are far harder than anything that shows up on homework assignments
If you don't have some background in Calculus, I would NOT recommend taking Kozinski. He is the kind of guy who assumes that you know everything there is to know about mathematics. The tests are ridiculous and the online homework is tedious. There will be a new lecturer for this class after the Spring 2009 semester, wait to take it if you can!
Doesn't explain himself well. Talks to the class like you already have a Phd. Tests are ridiculous. Have a firm algebra background if you take his class. My least favorite teacher I have ever had.
I know the only reason I did well in this class is because I had already taken Calculus and I went to TZ- it is not easy at all!
Go to class for the notes and the clicker points. Attendance can save you at the end of the semester. Put the class off until Fall 09 if you can; he's being moved to graduate-only. He makes the class far more difficult than need be for business and life science majors.
BEST ADVICE: Go to class and discussion. Points will help you out in the end. Make sure to do ALL webassign. He rounds the scores so its even better for you. Tests are tedious but if you do the practice problems in the book, you're good. I got a B cause I slacked on one of the exams and some of the webassigns. Not a bad prof.
Go to class. Go to discussion. Do the homework and you should be fine. His exams are not easy, but are not ridiculous. Not a class to slack off in, even if you took Calc in high school
can work on ability
Awful! Worst math teacher I have ever had. Find a way to not take him- Consider taking MAC2311. His lectures are boring and he teaches very difficult ways to go about finding the right answer. I know this because I took AP Calculus and passed the AP exam. WebAssign is almost impossible- they usually have one way to insert the correct answer. BEWARE
The multiple choice on the tests can kill your grade. Questions are tricky and time consuming. My friend is taking MAC2311 and the tests are way easier and that is suppose to be a harder class! Highly recommend you take 2311 over this. I wasn't aware that business majors could take either.
Kozinski isn't a bad teacher, his tests are just mind bogglingly difficult. I spent some 12 hours a week studying for this class and pulled off a D on test 1 and test 2. From what I understand, as long as you have already taken calculus he is a great teacher but if it's your first stab at it... you may want to reconsider having him.
Worst teacher ever. i don't even go to class anymore, his lectures don't help. just go to the end of class & do the clicker for attendance and make sure to do his tests from the previous semester.
The class was a challenge but with an adequate amount of effort a good grade is achievable. Kozinski was very clear in class and I easily understood what he went over. Any math class at UF will have difficult tests, so his are no exception. Completion of attendance points, webassign, quizzes, etc. are necessary and really help buffer test grades.
His lecture is not bad; However, his multiplechoice portion of the test is tricky and time consuming- he set you up for a D in the class, so if you want to get at least a C study the old test and practice the same type of questions over and over again. Try to avoid him if you can.
Amazing! his projects and homeworks are challenging but will prepare you to succeed in any problem solving class. His class made me love math and change my major from pre-med to engineering the 1st semester of college. Taking him for calc and doing the work will help anyone succeed in math, computer programming, logic, etc. I'm eternally grateful.
This guy definitely challenges you. His lectures are kind of helpful because they expose you to the material that will be on the exam. Projects and participating in lectures is key. Don't ever use the textbook theres no point. I went to tutoring zone and then did practice exams the night before each test and got an A in the class. Good luck!
He makes the class much more difficult than it really is. His lectures are not very helpful. Do not buy the book. The class is really tough if it's your first Calculus course. I recommend going to TZ and doing the old exams from Target Copy. Also, go over the WebAssign problems before each exam. Many problems are repeated with different numbers.
It kinda bothers me that so many people think this guy is a terrible teacher.. is UF really that stupid.. this guy is just like any other math teacher. teaches you what you need to know step by step, and then has his TAs teach you again.. getting an A isnt hard at all with his grading system.
If you don't have to take this class, DON'T. I was considering a double major but it ruined my majors GPA. You NEED to do the homework and I'd recommend TZ. He gives opportunities to get extra points, but I was just 5 pts from a B, out of 350, and he wouldnt give me it. Challenging course but I wish I hadn't taken it. Multiple choice was so hard.
Kozinski really isn't that bad. He goes through the material fast though. Definitely go to Broward Teaching Lab and pick up the old exams!! They are practically identical to his current ones. That's pretty much all I studied and I got an A. And start the WebAssign problems early! the Broward tutors are also a big help with Web Assign.
teacher is pretty easy. He speeds through everythng but his tests arent bad at all. as we see here, he's really not that bad of a teach if u check the registrar.
Avoid like the Plague. His lectures are not helpfull, and his exams are murderous. His exams tend to focuss on the exeptions to the rules, ans special cases rather than on the core materials.
Not a good professor. Avoid if at all possible. Spends so much time on theory that example problems barely get done. Tests were tough but I taught myself everything and passed, but barely. The concepts were pretty easy however and looking at other teachers tests it would have been easy to get a B or A. His tests are very tricky.
If you take this class, you're probably looking for trouble. Its hard to comprehend what he says and he refuses to use the mic in a large auditorium. Seems like he's out to trick you
If you're checking this, it probably means you still haven't picked your classes and if that's the case, RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!! DIDN'T HELP AT ALL!!! RUN!
I think the # of pages of comments for this guy says it all. Heck I had him 3 years ago and all I can say is STAY AWAY. Go to a community college or sneak into a high school for AP calc. I managed an A but only because I kept my notebook from AP Calc which allowed me to bypass all the useless theory crap he teaches that only mathematicians use.
Kozinksi was one of the worst teachers I've had at UF. He somehow managed to make Calculus even more boring than it already was. And that purple sweater.... **shudder**. Avoid if possible.
I had his class for Engineering Calculus and it was hard to understand alot of what he says but if you stay focused you start to and you will never know more about what you are studying then with him as your teacher. He is very passionate about math and likes students who are as well. Work hard and you'll reap the rewards
He is really helpful during office hours, but I didn't get much out of the lectures. He is very confusing at times and goes very fast with the material. Thank God for tutoring zone and having taken AP Calc in high school.
His tests make you think, but he is not as bad as everyone says he is. He is very nice. His lectures can be confusing, but he goes at a decent pace. If you study hard enough, an A is not out of reach.
people just need to stop complaining about this teacher and actually go to class and pay attention. if you listen in lecture and do the homework then he is no more confusing nor is his class harder than any other clac 1 professor.
Stop complaining about this prof. Yes it's hard, it's UF. He goes kind of fast and doesn't really go over concepts thoroughly. He just does a lot of examples. His exams really test your comprehension. If you go to lecture and discussion, get all those points, and study and do practice problems and exams, and TZ if you need it, you'll be alright.
OK so kozinski is hard we all know tht... but not impossible... just make sure u come from a decent calc background in high school and u should do fine... dont let everyone scare u... his lectures are useless... u pretty much have to teach urself... but its just calc... really nice guy though...
OK so kozinski is hard we all know tht... but not impossible... just make sure u come from a decent calc background in high school and u should do fine... dont let everyone scare u... his lectures are useless... u pretty much have to teach urself... but its just calc... really nice guy though...
Kosinski is not bad. He is a nice little man and he is very smart. Honestly, all these people who whine about how hard the class was are probably just blind to the fact that this isnt highschool anymore, and you cannot pass without putting in effort. If you go to class, take notes, and do the homework/projects you are almost guaranteed an A. His tests are very fair. If you don't go to class and end up failing, try blaming yourself instead of the teacher for once.
He is a pretty tough teacher that makes the content kind of confusing. Web Assign for him is a real pain because it takes about 3-4 hours to do 30 questions but that and the lectures are almost exactly how the exams are so if you do those you'll be alright
He is actually a great teacher. He is very helpful. Yea, its true that his lectures are useless, but there is a clicker, so you actually have to come to the class. His tests makes you think, which i think is good. Never paid attention in the class, still got an A. So, its not THAT hard.
people need to stop whining. he was the best math teacher i have had in a long time. tough but comprehensible. his lectures featured LOTS of applications for engineers, so if you are majoring in engineering this is a must. besides being EXTREMELY helpful outside of class, he is just the nicest person you will ever meet! oh, and almost no busy work!
Kozinski was an awesome teacher. If you pay attention in class your bound to learn. His exams are more or less exactly like his practice exams so this should be a breeze.
Great, great, great. Knows what he's talking about and if you come to lectures, practice, and go to his office hours, you'll be fine. He's very helpful in office hours!
Calculus is tough but there a lot of resources to help you succeed this class. I did not find his lectures one bit helpful but old exams are a great way to practice for his exams.
really bad teacher. I passed this class in high school and I only get by this class with my previous knowledge. He raises through the lectures and doesn't explain the important parts. Only reason I go to the lectures is because he takes attendance with clickers.
His voice is completely monotone so if you sit anywhere behind the first four rows you'll most likely find yourself zoning out for the majority of class. I only did well because I took AP Calc AB in high school. If you take his class, take the webassign seriously and get someone else to teach you how to do the ones you can't.
Calc for Eng.-He cannot teach, lectures are pretty much only useful for participation points.TA sessions and tutoring are your only chance at passing. He does not curb, even with his ridiculously high fail and drop rate.Looks like I'm dropping and taking it again. Too bad he's the only one teaching Calc for Engineers. Definitely a Weed out course.
He is not as bad as people make him out to be yeah during the lectures he doesn't really explain well sometimes but he will take time out of his day to explain a concept or a question even if its not office hours as long as you atleast try to get help. Also he incorporates a lot of engineering material in his lectures
The only thing I find annoying about his class is the large size of the auditorium. Can't blame him for that. You have to put work to earn your grade, that's about it.
Absolutely horrible teacher. Uninteresting, difficult to understand, and describes everything in an incredibly incomprehensible manner. Attendance is mandatory in the 600 person auditorium, so it gets loud when everyone is speaking to their friends about things other than Calculus because they'd rather not be there.
Textbook is a joke. Class size is too large to make it a mandatory class.
Not as bad as everyone makes him seem. Not very helpful in office hours but not a terrible teacher. Put in the work and you will get the grade you want.
Lecture is very basic. Not helpful for the tests. Hopefully you will get a good TA to prepare you for exams.
Kozinksi is a good teacher. He is not nearly as bad as everyone makes him out to be. As mentioned, the amount of work you put it in will be the result you get in the class.
His lectures are not too clear and his method of explaining concepts is rather poor. This is definitely a weed out course so be prepared. Tutoring and extra help may be needed to get a good grade.
Overall his powerpoints were good but some of his examples strayed too far from the material and made it difficult to understand. i feel like i couldve taught myself better than sitting through class
Kozinski is truly an awful teacher. Unfortunately there is no way to avoid his class if you are an engineer. His lectures do not help prepare you for the test at all, web assign homework is useless, and his tests are very difficult. It also is unfortunate that in the discussion sections my TA only goes over the homework and doesnt help teach at all
He doesn't teach the subject well. He complicates everything. If I hadn't taken calculus in high school, I would have struggled having to learn it from him.
He is an average teacher. I took calc in high-school and got a 5 on the exam, it was really easy to understand, but now i feel like I'm lost in calculus just because of how he explains things. If you can help not having him as a teacher, try, but if not its not the end of the world.... I hope.
It was a challenging course and there are a lot of curve balls on the tests but he is a good teacher, there are just 900 kids in calc one for engineers which is not fair to the students. My advice is to get to know him I got a B by the skin of my teeth but I made it!
I got a 5 in Calc AB in high school so I knew all of the information (and then some) that we covered in class. Therefore, the class was pretty easy. Unfortunately, the way he teaches isn't always clear and he even confused me sometimes. The TA's would also sometimes complain about his confusing methods.
Took Calc III with Williamson, but went to him for office hours. Really good at explaining concepts in different ways, giving geometrical perspective, and problem analysis. He does skip "a lot of" stuff in his class, but I can't see why people call him "hard."
this class had wayyy too much work needed for it, 7 quizzes a week and exams that were nothing like the homework or quizzes. he draws little pictures that have zero meaning and expects that to explain all of calc 3. he will help you if u ask but this is suppose to be the easiest calc class and it was the hardest.
veryyyy easy
Fair/Easy dude. Really helpful if you need it. Give him a chance.
Calculus 3 is 10x harder with Kozinski but if you want to learn the material instead of just getting an easy 'A' take his class. I found it really hard because I took it alongside several other challenging courses. His Calc III exams were actually some of the toughest in my undergrad.
It's really time consuming and he'll definitely make you work for the grade but study edge is REALLY helpful for this class so definitely get that
Very good teacher, very helpful. Thanks.
