Loves to talk about cars and experiences. Encourages discussion.
tough but fair; good teacher
Wants discussion then dominates it. Self-centered, but he doesn't know it, I guess.
What a stuckup...
Jason, yours DOES stink! Leave the ego behind, ok??
He is never wrong, just ask him.

Tough, but learned a great deal. Classes are always entertaining.
J. Mac is a great professor. He is difficult, but fair -- and he knows what he is talking about. You get out of his classes however much you want to.
take it over the summer, much easier than you could ever hope for, whatever your grade is all term your final score will be a letter grade higher just because you are taking it in the summer...very helpful!
if you want to freak him out, yell "rhubarb!" in the middle of class. he told a story about somebody getting heckled by a student who shouted that in a class once. also, he has trouble saying, "lufthansa." make him say that as much as possible.

Jason is stuck on himself. He does NOT know what he is talking about - just likes to hear himself talk. He contradicts himself (and the text he assigns). Only B I ever received at BSU and he told me that was a good thing.
J Mac hits top three professors at BSU in this Dept.I have never learned as much about MKTG or common sense in my time at BSU.Speak up, there isn't a lot of work so get involved, and listen...I promise he will help!!! One word of advice: DEFEND ALL OPINIONS TO THE DEATH!!! HE LOVES TO CHALLENGE AND DIG FOR LOGICAL, CREATIVE, AND BETTER IDEAS.
Do the reading before class (he likes to quiz on the upcoming lecture). Read the text, and study the lectures and you will do fine.
Good Teacher...worth taking!
he wants people to talk, but when you do he tells you you're wrong. the tests don't really reflect what was discussed in class, although he swears he covers everything. he's just okay.
This class is way to hard. Jmac isnt really a bad teacher. Class is usually pretty interesting but I dont think anybody gets an A in this class. He grades so unreasonably. The class average on the first test was %67 and the 2nd was %71. He doesnt curve or give extra credit.
Jason Macdonald is truly a horrible teacher. There is not point in purchasing the text book. Everything that he tests on are over his notes. If you know how to take good notes, then you will do fine. Just study the notes. His lectures are horrible! He never really teaches. Instead, he likes to hear himself talk and tell stories.
Lectures are funny and related to his own experience. The tests however, are not funny; somehow he makes an easy concept complicated. The project is interesing and you'll learn the most from it.
Professor is a very strict grader and can be quite difficult. However, lectures are very helpful, fun, and clear. Overall an excellent teacher who asks a little to much for an introductory class.
Knows a lot about his field but he is extremely hard to understand. He almost seems like he is trying to make it more difficult for you on purpose. He also contradicts himself in his instructions. Overall I learned alot but it was frustrating along the way.
Jason actually lectures, he does not teach straight from a book. His tests are challenging, however has his class do a large project, so if you don't do so hot on one of his tests, you can still pull a good grade. A really cool professor though!
I tend to enjoy psychology and marketing theories basically stem from psychology? This was to be one of my favored classes of the semester. And then, I met Jason MacDonald. I find his assignments and lack of instruction laughable ? his lectures ridiculous and his methods for grading questionable. Take another prof if you can!
Many people like to complain about Jason being too hard. The fact is most of the complaints are from people who don't understand that a three hundred level class requires more than showing up. If you take good notes, go to class, and study the ppts before a test, you will do fine. The only weakness is when he contradicts microeconomic theory!
I really liked his lectures. I can honestly say his class helped me realize that marketing was for me. I got a lot out of the class project.
Great professor. Difficult, but great. He really knows his stuff. Go to class and study hard for the tests and you'll be fine. Also, don't sweat the project so much (because it really isn't worth that much of your overall grade).
This is a hard class..If you expected a survey course with just test and lecture take a different class. If you want to know for sure your a marketing major TAKE HIM, he challanges you, come to class he is funny not monotone, take good notes(test=notes, and work well with your groups you'll do great!!! awesome professor.
I found that asking questions didn't help. His slides don't cover his test questions fully. He likes to have "trick" questions. If you have a question you know everyone will get wrong, either you are teaching poorly or setting everyone up for failure. Why do that?
I took 301 and Internet marketing from Jason. I think that he is a really good prof. He is not easy but you learn a lot from him and he makes class interesting. He is very funny and engaging. He made me want to switch majors to MKTG because he does such a good job of making it fun and simple. If you have the chance DEF take his internet marketing!
Great prof...very helpful. Learned a lot in this class.
If you LIKE to learn, are willing to put effort in, or are a marketing major, take this professor! His class is challenging but he's EXTREMELY easy to listen to & you will learn. He really knows his stuff & you will leave class everyday having learned something. I finished with a B & I'm very happy with his teaching skills.
If you are a Marketing major maybe it's worth having him as a professor, otherwise, it was a waste of my time. What he teaches in class has nothing to do with what he tests on. He tests on concepts and terms that he never lectures on. He's a confusing teacher, plus he never writes back to emails.
Dr. MacDonald is a very good and interesting professor. He makes you enjoy coming to class. His tests are difficult, but he does lecture on all of it. You need to know how to apply the concepts, not just the definition. He is extremely helpful outside of class too. I would take more classes from him.
Tough, but good. Very interesting teaching methodology. The presentation is not easy, but very good teaching tool. If you are interested in Marketing, take this class. If you want a GOOD, INTERESTING, and ENGAGING professor, take this class.
If only my other teachers could be as engaging as this teacher. Really made me want to learn what he was preaching. If you want to learn something, this is the teacher to take a class from. His tests aren't easy but his class was more than worth it. Thanks Teach
easily the Best Professor in the whole university, AlFaisal University! his stories are great and are the best to learn from! the amount of pop culture knowledge is outstanding!, just the best!
One of the best professors I have taken at BSU. His lectures are super interesting and I actually looked forward to going to class. Tests are tricky but study your notes and they are manageable.
Jason is a smart guy. His lectures are incredibly insightful and educational. However, there aren't many assignments, so the tests are worth a lot. Be sure to study for them. All in all, I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.
Great marketing teacher, anyone complaining really isn't college prepared, thats the truth! Take notes during his lectures, ask questions when needed and you'll do fine.
Interesting lecturer, funny in a way. Get to know him, he has his favorites.
Jason spits real talk every class. Uses a ton of real life examples and is probably the most engaging and easy to listen to lecturers I have ever had. If you aren't willing to study, guaranteed you don't stand a chance at passing. Put in work and due diligence, take time to get to know him. More than willing to help those who help themselves.
He is a funny instructor, love talking about himself and places he traveled. He is a tough grader, his exam super hard Not an easy at all and All of it trick questions. His slide not helpful at all even though it is the only source to study. There is a test review which is nice of him but as long as you study he will trick you with his tricky Qs.
Jason is the best professor I have ever had! He is so knowledgeable about Marketing, and explains all of the topics in an interesting way. He also teaches with examples so it's very easy to grasp and understand the topics. If you do not want to go to class every day and study a lot for the exams, you will not pass.
on of the best class i ever had he deal with the student as an employees, his test is hard but if you study his review you will do good, has one big presentation. good luck
One of my favorite professors at BSU, also one of the hardest classes I have taken. His lectures are awesome and he is a great guy, the tests are very difficult however.
Super hard course, but the Professor is a real looker!
D-Mac was easily my favorite professor at BSU. His classes are NOT easy, do not take him if you just want to glide by. However, if you do take him you will not regret it. He is smart, hilarious, and has an incredible amount of knowledge and life experience. YOU NEED TO STUDY FOR THIS CLASS!!!! The exams will crucify you if you don't do the work.
I actually enjoyed this class because the professor made it fun and interesting, one of my favorites at BSU. There's just 3 tests and a project/presentation with a group. Great class-just show up and study for the tests. Tests can be tricky but not bad at all if you study with the material he gives. Easy B.
I am a non business major and he was one of the best professor's I have ever had. He always has great real world examples to apply to course material. Not only a great professor, but also an extremely cool dude!
Jason is amazing. Hilarious, knowledgeable, with a ton of real life experience. Charismatic, charming and easy on the eyes. He is my favorite professor after 4 years in college. Recommend to everyone, even if you're not a Marketing Major. The simulation was a pain - so hard and time consuming - but you learn a ton from it.
In 4 years at Boise State this was my favorite class. Jason expects a lot of his students but if you show up and participate the lectures are amazing and informative. Yes you will have to study for the tests. Yes you need to know geography. And yes the simulation isn't easy but overall I learned more in this class than any other.
One of the few professors whose lectures could keep my attention each class. Class format suffers however given that his powerpoints and other pieces have little content in them. Only grades are 3 tests, a simulation, and a final presentation about said simulation. Talks about his experiences in Saudi Arabia and Tim Hortons just about every class.
He is an amazing professor. I had him for 301 as well and both classes were difficult but everything that's expected is laid out right in front of you. PARTICIPATE. He will know your name by the second week of class or sooner, so he knows if you do/don't speak up. His tests are difficult but not impossible if you pay attention/study his reviews.
Jason is awesome. His lectures are always interesting, never a dull class. The sim is a group project and is a decent part of your grade. Participate and you'll be fine. A lot of real world experiences and lessons. A really great class, definitely recommend it.
Truly enjoyed Professor MacDonald's class. He has traveled extensively and lived outside of the U.S. which lends itself to real life examples and great stories. We had an online group marketing simulation which was fun and very challenging. He is super knowledgeable and very helpful when needed.
Make sure you show up, participate, and pay attention! His exams ARE hard, but he uploads a study guide that is LITERALLY what the exam will be. He will give you a handful of essay questions to prep before the exam -- DO IT. He will pick 2-3 of the ones you have already prepared. JUST PREPARE and you'll be fine.
Honestly loved this professor. I took him last semester and I still think about things he taught! I hope to take a class from him again in the future!
Knows what he's talking about, and will help you understand it. Very interesting class with simulations to mock real world examples.
He has good knowledge of what he is talking about but I question his care for the students. You really have to pay attention to the definitions for the test. *Don't skip the study guides, you wont pass. I disliked this class and would never recommend this professor to fellow students. Overall not a great experience.
Jason is a great professor. This is a challenging, but rewarding class. Make sure you get good group members as you have a group project that is 30% of your grade. Also, make sure not only do you show up to class, but ask a few questions now and then or you'll lose a decent amount of participation points
Jason was a wonderful teacher. He knows the material very well and relates it to real life situations, The course is graded on a few things such as a simulation (group project), exams, a presentation, and professionalism. He's a harsh grader on certain things. Make sure to contribute to class discussions daily or he'll doc you down.
Jason is the best professor I've had to date at Boise State. He teaches through application rather than strict regurgitation . That said, you will have to fight for your grade in this class. Make sure to capitalize with high scores on the tests and actively participate as the simulation is mostly up to chance.
Jason might be a nice guy, but he seems to want to make his class as difficult to succeed in as possible. He's a horribly hard grader, has zero sympathy for students who are struggling, and seems to enjoy taking points away and giving bad grades. Not sure what his deal is, but I'm normally a mostly A, some B's student and I got a C.
He is a great professor. His test are hard, but he tries to give you everything you need. Just make sure you elaborate on the free response thats where I lost points. Simulation took 30+ hours outside of class. But his class was interesting and I really enjoyed him. It was a hard class, but super informative and easy to follow along the lectures.
I absolutely loved Jason's lectures, but this guy is a TOUGH grader. I was lucky to get a 71% on the midterm compared to the other scores in the class. I wish I would have known how important it was to ask questions and speak up in class before the end of the semester. Takes an extremely long time to grade assignments. Pick a good group for the sim
Don't take this professor. You might read some good reviews about him but you won't know how bad he is until taking him. Get ready to think the class is easy for 10 weeks of the semester only to do a project that is worth 20% of your grade with no instructions, and don't even think about emailing him with a question, he wont respond with an answer.
Jason is very smart and has fantastic lectures, however he is extremely intimidating. He makes you feel inadequate at times but i don't think he really means to upset students. That being said the actual assignments are very difficult and you cant slack if you want a good grade. Also the Sim is extremely important. Be prepared to work for your A.
He can be kind of a tough grader, as he looks for specific things he wants mentioned in the discussions and group paper. Tests can be stressful due to a 50 minute time limit for 40 questions, but they are open book and you get two chances, though the last attempt is the one that counts. The group project is a sim and a lot of it is based on luck.
This class is probably one of the hardest I've taken. There are not many assignments, but the assignments you do have are pretty hard. You better hope you get a good group for the simulation because it is a really difficult project and you don't get to choose your groups. The tests are pretty difficult but still doable. He is a nice guy but hard.
Jason is an awesome lecturer, HIGHLY recommend to actively participate (graded). For the sim/case studies listen to what he says in lectures, write it down, and do exactly as he says. That is all it takes really. Group work is a large portion of grade, FOLLOW THE RUBRIC and he will give you the grade you deserve. Must look at files he gives for sim
Professor MacDonald makes lectures really interesting and fun. I have heard mixed things about him but to be honest, he is a great professor. He definitely expects your best work and participation in class. Not too many assignments other than the group Simulation, but as time goes by, it gets easier to understand.
Professor MacDonald will definitely push you out of your comfort zone, which can be difficult at times if you're super introverted like myself. However, this class was very valuable and I learned a lot. The lectures are always entertaining and he relates it to real life so you grasp info better. The sim is hard but you learn a lot!
Jason's teaching abilities are fine but he is so arrogant. He spends about 25% of class talking about his ex-wife. He also grades attendance but not every day so people who have missed multiple classes can have higher grades than those who have only missed one. He also docs points for little things like being a minute late to class.
For all major assignments you will have to work with at least one other person, and bulk of your grade is determined by a group project where your team is randomly assigned. My experience was great bc my team was great. Prof was always extremely clear with his expectations and advice for assignments. Fantastic world experience and insight.
Jason is by far one of the most intellectual professors at Boise State. He is witty, funny, and is not afraid to say something bold. Don't take this class if you get offended easily. Don't take this class if you don't talk. ever. His grading structure is laid out nicely, and if you try just a little you'll at least pass. I recommend taking.
Jason is a super great teacher you can tell he really cares. However, there is no supplemental material provided in this class, he has slides but often just tells stories about himself or his ex wife. There is no prep provided to help study for his extremely difficult tests that he says "shouldn't use any critical thinking".
By far my worst experience with a professor at Boise State University. I would not recommend this professor to anyone. He consistently talks about himself, his ex wife, and the same 5 stories over and over again. His PowerPoints are terrible, doesn't provide study guides, and tests on material that wasn't even covered.
Professor MacDonald boosted everyone's grades during course eval., by about 10% and claimed it was due to the attendance grade. After the final/course eval., he "reweighted" the grades and everyone's grade dropped by 10%. His lectures were not informative and his test questions don't match his lectures or the textbook.
In the first week of class a slide had "mommy porn" listed and then proceeds to bring up his ex-wife every chance he can. He grades us on our "professionalism" from attendance and participation in the class. I think its very unfair that a man who teaches us and uses these terms can grade his students on being professional.
First, do NOT buy the textbook. I did not use it the whole semester! Professor is going to seem like a jerk at first and he is a tough grader, but he is hilarious and very entertaining to listen to. Attending the lectures is necessary for a good grade, but they will not waste your time. I highly recommend this class. Bad reviews=written by him!
While he's really funny, it feels like the lectures are just him telling personal stories that sort of apply. He also talks about his ex wife a LOT which got kind of uncomfortable. Very tough grader. There are only a few assignments through the semester, so you have to do well from the get go. The sim takes up majority of the class.
This dude is actually awesome. He can be inappropriate at times with certain language, but he is the first professor that I actually enjoy listening to. I think it may be because he tells stories and asks engaging questions the entire class, but I had a great time. Don't get the textbook, and make sure to focus a lot on the simulation.
He will spend a long time talking about his ex wife during lectures. Then he will go to a slide that is actually important say “this is important” and move on. A huge portion of the grade is the simulation so make sure you and your group are on the same page bc if you mess up it's over. Only take his class if you have no other options.
I really disliked Jason's class. The simulation is so difficult especially when your group doesn't all help or know whats going on. Good luck in this class!
Most people didn't like Jason, but I really enjoyed his class. It's difficult and make sure to reach out for help, especially on the first homework assignment. You will need to meet with your group at least 3 times outside of class to make decisions for the simulation. As long and everyone contributes & you get help when needed you'll be fine.
