Prof. Mallory is a good teacher, there are a lot of readings and he gives quizzes & discussions on the readings the next day. He really tries to help you understand the authors point of view. If you can get passed the readings then he's great.
This man is amazing, even if you are not interested in philosophy he will captivate you. He does not care how you think as long as you take the time to understand another person's point of view. Take him if you want to look at things a different way! You might not change your mind on everything but you will understand why you think that way.
Dr. Mallory has by far been my favorite teacher at Polk State. As a student you are exposed to so many different ideas that your head hurts by the end of class! Every moment is worth it though and I often reflect on the topics shared during the semester. This is a must take professor!
Large reading assignments every 3 days, 5 minute, one try quiz every second of the three days. Very complex discussion questions related to reading. Comprehending, comparing and contrasting of 20-30+ pages and referencing them to other articles and videos is required. 5 page term paper. Will not take this professor again due to difficulty!
Prof. Mallory is by far one of my favorite teachers. He makes every discussion interesting and easy to comprehend. He is caring and always willing to help. All you have to do is read what's assigned, show up to class, and participate. I would literally choose for him to teach me every subject if it were possible. Must take!
Sweet little guy! Is extremely passionate about what he teaches. Is almost creepily good at not showing what he believes in which Is good for a philo and ethics teacher. MUST HAVE THE BOOK.
Dr. Mallory is awesome, very helpful and want his students to do well. It's great that he makes you think without giving you his thoughts, very hard to do I assume.
Dr Mallory is very helpful to all students. Overall he's a great teacher; i recommend taking his class.
Very interesting discussion topic and short 5 question quiz due every week. Readings were provided up front and additional links/videos were provided with each discussion. Professor was active in grading and discussions. Studying the material and book is a MUST! All questions asked to prof. were answered quickly. Will take again if courses offered!
He is a good teacher and knows his stuff. However if you are looking for an easy A stay away! His questions and assignments are very complex and take many hours to complete! Plus you receive 60 page reading assignments every 3 days for your quizes which are 5 min...
Dr. Mallory is one of the best Professors I have had at Polk State College. He responds super quickly to emails. He explains everything VERY well. There is a lot of reading. 5 min quick quizzes (2) a week. I would most definitely take him again. He also gives extra credit (summer course). He interacts with his students in discussions as well.
Unless you love reading ALL THE TIME on very boring subjects then this is NOT the teacher for you. Every week he gives you a ton of articles and chapters to read and there was so much information it was hard to keep up and remember everything. I would NOT take him again.
Really loved the class the lectures where great. If you miss a pop quiz you can't make it up unless you have a doctors note other than that the class was pretty great.
Great teacher who loves what he does and makes the content very interesting. Gets the whole class into discussions and is hilarious. There is a reading assigned before each class that must be done because there is always a chance he will have a pop quiz. There's a midterm but no final, only a term paper. He's an amazing teacher. Would take again!
Amazing professor. Would take again. Gives more than enough extra credit. In fact I passed this class off extra credit!
He's Literally the best teacher anyone could have i almost consider staying another year at polk to take one of his other classes.
He is a great Professor! Really cares about his job and students. He gives a pop quiz nearly every class on stories you are supposed to read. He will also give tons of extra credit over the semester to do, so take advantage of it! The class is based on your own opinions, so it's an easy A.
You are given a short pop quiz for almost every class base on the articles you read. You have to participate and give your opinion on many subjects. Make sure you take notes because they are very helpful for the midterm exam.
I had this class online, now the readings were short, but then they got really long and some were boringdifficult to reading. I took anatomy w this class so it's possible to do both. I passed w an A. There's discussion do at the end of every week & 1 quiz due every week (5 questions 5 minutes to complete), he's fast to reply, nice, and helpful.
Prof. Mallory is honestly the best teacher at polk state! His lectures are extremely interesting. He requires a lot of reading and has a bunch of pop quizzes to make sure that you read. His midterm is easy as long as you study and the final is completely opinion based.
He is a great teacher and he cares about his work and students. He regularly gives pop quizzes, but you usually know they are coming. There are no tests, but there is a mid-term and a final. There is a reading to do before every class and most of it is pretty interesting. I enjoyed this class and I would recommend him to other students!
He's a great professor with a great personality. I can also say he's cares about his students a lot, so feel free to ask questions. It does require reading out the book, because you never know what the 3 questions are in the pop quizzes he gives out. Overall easy and exciting class.
A really nice guy, seemed genuinely interested in discussions. There is a lot of reading and it is mandatory as there is short quiz after each reading assignment over what you should have read. He was extremely helpful and sent out class-wide updates on how to improve your work. I would definitely recommend!
For a professor in the philosophy/ethics area of academia, I was shocked at how neutral he presented the issues/information. To this day I don't know where his personal beliefs lie on any topic other than socialism. He gives you a chance to choose your beliefs based on all the information you need to make your decisions. Much respect for him.
I'll take him again. Reading plays a major role in his class.
He is by far my favorite teacher. He is really easy to talk to, and really cares about his students. Our in class discussions are the best, and quite entertaining.
Every week you have readings to do, a quick 4 question true/false quiz to make sure you read, discussion post to questions, and 2 replies to write. 6 week summer courses, it is every other day instead of weekly. There is one paper for the semester and various extra credit papers. I never got anything lower than 93 in this and his Ethics class.
GREAT PROFESSOR! Show up for class, participate, and do the extra credit and you should receive an "A" His class was never boring!
AMAZING TEACHER!! You will have the BEST discussions in his class. He really knows how to lead a class discussion, and make sure everyone's opinions are heard.I would take his class over and over again. The only downfall is you NEED to read what he assigns because he gives pop quiz's but also offers extra credit,
Great Professor!!!!
Dr. Mallory is my favorite professor I wish I could take him for every class. He truly cares about every one of his students. If you read all the readings and pay attention in class you will pass no problem!
Dr. Mallory is an excellent professor! His class is A LOT of work but, it is worth it! I really enjoyed the class, reading and discussion boards, even if it was quite a bit of work. I wouldn't recommend taking him in a shortened or expedited time frame but, I do recommend taking his class!
Dr. Mallory is a very good professor. Reading and participation was abundant but the professors personality was what kept you engaged. Though I loved him as a professor, he firmly influences his personal beliefs into his lectures.
Professor Mallory is a great teacher who keeps things interesting and makes it really easy to learn. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to take a class they'll actually enjoy.
My favorite class so far! He really cares about his job and his students. There is a lot of reading and writing. You WILL have to work to pass. But, he makes it very interesting.
Awesome professor, really good class but you have to go each day, do not miss or you will miss quizzes. Also there is extra credit opportunities at the school to attend. Take advantage of those in addition. It is a great, thought provoking class.
I enjoyed his ethics online class. There is alot of reading and his weekly quizzes are really specific so you HAVE to read the material. His discussions are long but if you do the work it's an easy class. I would definitely take him again because you can tell he cares about the subject and wants you to really get involved.
Professor Mallory was a professor like no other I've ever had. I took him for ethics and he was an awesome teacher. He really made you question your stance on many huge ideas such as abortion, the death penalty, licensing for parenting and much more. Never ONCE gave his personal opinion and respected everyone's ideas. this class will change you!!!
This Class is really hard and difficult have to read 3-4 chapters 9-22 pages his quizzes pick out sentence that you would not remeber and only get 5 minutes which feels like seconds. also, you do not get to see what you make on the quizzes. I took him for ethics and it was horrible decision I made I did not learn anything seeing I am stressed.
Absolutely hated this class and everything about it! The reading is ridiculously long. I took logic and ethics, both classes were the exact same . Didn't learn anything, there's no facts, no lessons just lecturing on left -wing beliefs. If you're a conservative in this class you're doomed! Would never have paid for this class myself. Not recommend!
Lots of reading and discussion posts. He really makes you work for your grade but at the same time respectful. I sent several emails and he always responded respectfully. If you have more than 2 classes be able to multi-task. I had 4 at once and work so I did feel overloaded. Glad I stuck it out and did not withdrawal. Finished with an A.
Absolutely loved taking Intro to Philosophy with Prof. Mallory! Such an interesting class and as long as you do the readings and participate in group discussions, it's fairly easy to make an A. The readings are long but it's easy to keep up. Also, the "final exam" is just writing a 5-10 page paper. He's very respectful too, TAKE THIS CLASS!
Absolutely love Prof. Mallory. I took him for Philosophy and now Ethics and I've learned so much. Be prepared to read a lot for hw and have pop quizzes the next day (only 3 questions long). Participate in discussions, come to class, and read and you'll get an easy A.
Dr. Mallory is definitely a great professor. His class is a very enjoyable class that is based on class discussions. If you do not like to talk in front of the class, be prepared! He respects all opinion and is not biased at all. He gives great feedback and would definitely be recommended. Dr. Mallory is also cares deeply about his students.
I have to say, I took his class online summer 2017 fast track. It was hard but I had to look him up on Facebook! He is just great! His class is difficult ngl, and time consuming but if you try your hardest I guarantee, you'll get a good grade! P.S he is hot haha, that's just a plus but he is truly a good professor. I have nothing negative to say :)
Lots of quizzes but he loves what he teaches so it made it interesting, free writes and a quiz on the reading almost every class but only 3 questions so it isnt too bad. Def would take again.
Goes over controversial topic, so if you are super set in your ways and not open to new ideas you will not like his class. Has a tests almost every class that goes over the homework your supposed to read(2-4 SIMPLE questions) He really wants you to pass and gives extra credit too. (most reading are free online) The reading is normally 4-15pgs
Dr. Mallory is very passionate about what he do. Have a lot of quizzes and the discussions are very time consuming, but so worth it, because it makes you think logically and you would gain knowledge about a lot of topics. He responds very swiftly to emails. He is very understanding about any situation that you're in. Awesome Professor
I really liked this class. You can tell the professor is passionate about the subject. Make sure to read the homework. There's always a quiz but as long as you actually read the quizzes are pretty easy. Being on time is important too because the quizzes are at the start of class.
Always read or else you will be lost in class. The textbook isnt necessary he posts all the links to the readings in canvas. Be ready to take a quiz everyday (some days he doesnt test) and be ready to be put on the spot.
SUMMER TERM: 9 discussion boards. 5-8 questions long. TONS of reading, a 48min documentary, & sometimes just short clips. Readings are all primary, WORDY sources 1 essay at end for term grade; 7 pages minimum on the problem of evil. Lots of E.C. offered, I have a 105% w.o it though! VERY nice. Responsive to emails. Would even talk otp.
I took PHI 2100 & PHI 2600, and Dr. Mallory was one of the best professors Ive ever had. Hes passionate and knowledgeable about the topics, while still being respectful and open to others ideas. I highly recommend taking any of his courses, he truly does teach you how to be a better critical thinker. Pop quizzes are hardly pop and are easy.
The most interesting professor ever! He is so passionate about philosophy and he turns into this philosophy genius and starts acting out of character while shouting ideas lol, but take him he is awesome, there is a quiz almost every class, and there is a lotttt of reading to do. but each quiz is less than 5 question, and a paper.
Great teacher and very interesting class.
The nicest professor Ive had. He is extremely caring, responds quickly to emails, & is happy to answer questions even if theyre small. He does give a ton of assignments, so make sure you give your best effort. At the end he gives about 10 extra credit papers which arent hard, & they helped my grade so much. I reccomend his class to everyone
He really cares about both the subject and his students. Not gonna lie, there is a TON of reading and discussion for this class, but I've never enjoyed it like I have here. I got a low score on my first discussion, and after reaching out to him he took the time to help me and I did almost perfectly on the next. Could not ask for a better professor.
He was very respectful and caring about grades. 10/10 would recommend
Prof. Mallory is a great teacher and makes this class very fun and interactive. He gives us lots of pop quizzes but they are easy as long as you read the articles he gives you. Overall his class is very easy to pass. The only downside is that he never puts any grades is the whole semester.
Professor Mallory's class has honestly been my favorite college class thus far. He's easy to access outside of the class and will respond to any questions you may have pretty quickly. His grading criteria is super clear. Despite the amount of reading, this class taught me so much about morals and ethics. I'm grateful this was class was mandatory!
Awesome teacher. Only downside to the class is that other than the exam and final paper, he only gives two types of assignments: discussion posts and 4 question quizzes. The quizzes can slowly tank your grade because if you miss just one question you get a 75% and they're worth 25% of your grade. Extra credit at the end of the year helps a lot.
Im a science major but Professor Mallory really made me enjoy this course. He is kind, hilarious, and very intelligent. Mallory encouraged respectful class debates and really opened our minds and eyes to other opinions or arguments. Mallory is a fantastic professor and I highly recommend him.
He is an amazing professor that makes every class interesting and enjoyable. He has a great sense of humor. There is a pop quiz everyday so be prepared. Highly recommend!
The course work consist of weekly quizzes and discussions. There is one term paper and a final. He offered four extra credit papers. There is a lot of reading. I had a hard time understanding some concepts so I failed my final. It dropped my grade from an 89 to 76. I did an extra credit paper and it raised to 78. He was so kind to raise it to a B.
Professor Mallory is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. You do have to read to pass the daily pop quizzes, but overall the class is very easy. Professor Mallory makes it fun by using interesting examples to explain topics. Funniest and craziest professor I've ever had!
Amazing Professor. Gives feedback. Truly seems to care about your grade and is passionate about what he teaches. You will write quite a bit every week for a discussion. Final exam was open book & multiple choice. You will need to do some reading and watch some videos but they are all interesting! Book isn't really needed. Most material is online!
Great professor, was very specific about the requirements for the course. There are pop quizzes but as long as you do the reading for the class they aren't too bad. He also only has a mid term exam and the final is a long paper that took me roughly 8-9 hours to complete. Overall the course was nice.
My favorite class so far! 3 question quizzes are given at the beginning of each class so don't be late. Textbook not needed, all reading material is given online. Do the extra credit offered and you will pass. He is very animated when giving lectures. He makes the class so fun, I would definitely take him again. Do the work and you will pass.
Each week followed this pattern: read, quiz, discussion. The quizzes were about 4 true/false. The questions were sometimes too specific, asking about specific scenarios from the book. The discussion boards were very long although they definitely cemented the material. The extra credit at the end of the semester can really bring your grade up.
The professor himself is good, but the work not so much. The quizzes are only 4 questions, but you must read what is assigned and understand it, 8 min. is given per quiz. The discussion questions are time consuming and basically essays. There is a term paper and final at the end. I am taking this as an elective, too much work for an elective!!
He is one of the best professors I have had! He is super caring and smart. He also brings the topics to life and is very animated. He makes the class very fun, easy, and engaging. I am not one to talk, but he made it a very comfortable environment. I 100% recommend taking Mallory! There is no test, however, pop quizzes on the assigned reading
At the beginning he seemed very awkward but in actuality hes just passionate about his class. A lot of reading. A 3-4 multiple choice question quiz at the start of every class. The midterm is very easy. The final paper is extra credit but he wont tell you that at beginning of the class. If you skim the material youll pass with an B. Very easy.
He is one of the best! He cares about your grades, and is willing to work with you. Gives out EXTRA CREDIT!! One of the best professors!
Professor Mallory was one of the best professors I have had. This class had a lot of reading, and watching long videos but other then that it was a very easy class. He gave extra credit papers at the end which REALLY helps! The extra credit replaces your lowest test grades and makes it 10/10. Hes very nice and gives great feedback on assignments.
Such an Amazing Professor. Class is a little stressful, but f you stay up to date with readings and due dates you will be fine. Work hard.
Dr Mallory made this class just generally a great experience. He creates a lot of truly engaging discussions and is great at what he does, he's also caring and understanding of outside forces affecting work. Only complaint is how LONG all of the assignments are. He makes you work for it and the reading and assignments take a solid amount of time.
I took him for intro and ethics. Amazing professor, one of the most influential teachers I've had. He challenges the way you think but is extremely kind and respectful. He champions human rights issues. If you have the opportunity, you really should take a class with him - you won't regret it.
Dr. Mallory gives you great articles to read for the quiz. You must understand the articles if you want to understand the discussion post questions. He is a very great professor who allows you to have a proper discourse during the discussion post. Be mindful you will have a hard time if you do not read the articles twice.
First time rating a teacher but Mr. Mallory is a great teacher and very caring. He gives alot of extra credit and he respond to your email in a timely manner. it is a lot of reading but he is a easy grader. I would take another course of his if i needed it. 5 star
This was a wonderful class to take and Dr. Mallory is a great professor. There is a clear path to obtaining an "A" and he gives ample opportunity to fix grades. It is a lot of work, but if you are interested, I would recommend!
Dr. Mallory is a great teacher. Helps students and really wants them to succeed. Definitely a lot of reading but if you read youll pass real easy. Gives lots of extra credit!!!
Expect 1 discussion post and quiz each week. The class is an easy B. If you want an A, he offers very easy and a lot of extra credit. It is a very subjective class, so there is minimal studying involved. If you can explain your opinions well, this is an easy class.
Awesome professor. You have one quiz and one discussion board due each week. It is a lot of reading so make sure you have time in your schedule to read multiple passages. As long as you give good, detailed responses you will get a good grade. Gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. I would 100% take him again.
Awesome teacher. Like some of the other reviews, here's 1 short quiz and 1 discussion post (somewhat lengthy but interesting questions so its enjoyable) per week. For each week, around 2-3 readings which you will discuss in the discussion post and in the quiz. Gives multiple chances for extra credit, just stay caught up and you will do great.
Professor Mallory’s work load is heavy but his lectures are so interesting! Every week consist of an 8min quiz (4 questions) about the reading and a discussion post where you will end up writing about 1300-1500 words for each weekly post. He is a great professor and I’m happy I took his class. I learned a lot in this class. Highly recommend !
So Professor Mallory himself is great, he is fun to interact with over email and very helpful. The class itself was confusing from day one, it felt like gibberish to me reading anything. So if you take it online there is a quiz based off the reading due and then a discussion 4 days after basically each week. An easy class but very confusing
Dr Mallory is the best teacher Ive had in Polk State. Dr Mallory will not let you fail as long as you put in the effort. We had to read a chapter in our philosophy book every week to complete the discussion assignments. I didnt read not one page and passed the class with a 75%. If you put in minimum effort take Dr Mallory.
Don't take him. He's probably the most confusing professor ever. Very unorganized. I would give him a 0/10 if I could.
TIME CONSUMING! Professor is great, 4 extra credit paper opportunities, class is interesting, BUT out of my 5 classes I spent more time on this class than any other. Posts are 6-8 questions but take a lot of reading and have part a,b,c,d, and e; have to watch multiple videos for every post. Spend 2-3.5 hrs on each post. Overall takes 4-6 hrs/week
I really enjoy Prof Mallory as a teacher, hes sooo nice and understanding and he leaves comments on every submission which is very beneficial in my opinion. The assignments are veryy lengthy though and it is a lot of reading. That may be due to the fact that my class is online but it is still pretty difficult. Philosophy 0/10 Mallory 10/10.
Class is time-consuming, but easy. Essentially you read/watch videos and then write your opinion. There are little four question quizzes that if you do the reading, you should get 100s. There's plenty of extra credit clear from the beginning. I even got random extra bonus points here and there. The material is interesting.
Professor Mallory had 4 quizes that also connected to the 4 discussion questions. I took this fast track and it was easy it was fast paced and didn't take very long to get the assignments done. The articles are very long and the term paper is about 10 pages long but if you focus it should take no longer than 2 days. It was a really easy class.
Took it over the summer and I got to say when getting a bad grade let's hope he doesn't say "yikes". Instead of explaining why you got that grade. He did not put logic into the class he taught.
Lots of reading with this subject, only 4 question quizzes that are not proctored. Gave two extra credit papers only one page long, each extra credit assignment was two 100's. Do the extra credit!!! Reading was provided through canvas. This teacher was amazing!
Dr. Mallory is an excellent and encouraging professor. I took this course as a summer B course and there was a lot of reading and writing. The quizzes are a little tough, however multiple extra credit opportunities are provided. Discussions ranged from 1000-2500 words. Overall, you will most likely receive a good grade if you put in the effort.
Dr. Mallory displayed care that I hadn't seen before in an online course, going to great lengths to answer clarifying questions I had about assignments. Discussion posts are long but well-guided so it doesn't feel like that much work. Only complaint is the 4-question quizzes which, while very easy, mean a bad grade if you mess up one question.
Professor Mallory is a great professor. It's an ethics class and I think he recognizes that everyone thinks about things differently, and as long as you show effort and that you care about your work he'll give you full credit for everything.
Dr. Mallory is an amazing ethics professor. Authentic in all he does and truly values being ethical. His class is truly objective, allows students to hold their beliefs, encourages considering other beliefs, and encourages healthy disagreement but never allows unkind words. The only professor I've had so far who made me wish I was in an IRL class!
Professor Mallory is a very kind and helpful person. His 8-minute quizzes are challenging, but his discussions are straightforward. You have to read articles to do the quizzes, and he gives lots of extra credit, which will boost your grade. I highly recommend taking his class, and I would retake him.
Professor Mallory is a genuinely nice teacher. He makes this class very fun and the lectures are always interesting. This is one of the few classes where I actually enjoy doing the discussion posts. He is very respectful with his feedback and offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. There is a lot of reading but it's all pretty easy.
Good professor, lots of reading but definitely not a tough class. He is very flexible, may take some time to get back to you to messages but if he responds after the due date of an assignment he will make an extension for you. I would take him again.
Professor Mallory creates an open and engaging class. Quizzes are challenging but manageable with the provided readings and extra credit options. The discussions encourage diverse perspectives. Using unstuck study alongside the course materials helped me stay on top of the workload.
Very great at providing feedback for student papers. Awesome professor to have meaningful and insightful discussion with.
he is a great, lenient, and motivational prof. his 8-min quizzes are only 4 questions and are answerable as long as u read the articles for that week. discussion posts due every 10 days. he's easy to reach. you can tell he's passionate about what he does. 3 extra credit opportunities. the class was challenging for me bc I can't philosophize easily.
If there's a chance for a different professor, TAKE IT!!
Really enjoyed this class and professor. A bit of reading, but if you like philosophy, it's a great and fairly easy class. Discussion heavy, which can be challenging, but it's set up in a student-friendly way. Prof clearly passionate about the subject, engages in depth in feedback. Nice and easy to reach out to!
The nicest professor I had that semester. He sends very positive audio messages about discussions. I had some attendance issues and he was very helpful and understanding. The weekly quizzes are easy if you just read the material. He offers two extra credit papers that are not very difficult. Manage your time and you will be fine. He grades nicely.
At the beginning of the course I was dreading the amount of reading and writing, but over time I learned to really appreciate Dr. Mallory. His goal is to get you to think critically and explore your own views deeper. He is very caring and wants what's best for his students. I'd recommend him to anyone if you don't mind a lot of writing.
