One of the most intelligent teachers ever...doesn't spoonfeed material and has great examples to share. And totally hot.

Interesting teacher. Kind of hard, but fun. Better study.

i enjoy mccoys classes. he keeps me interested from beginning to end. the only class where i don't check the clock and don't fall asleep. his class is only truly hard if you don't study the material!
I'm in the third class I've had with McCoy. He's a very energetic, very passionate teacher, and he expects you to actually learn, not just memorize. Even though I got a C in his class, I think I actually learned more from him than from any other teacher I've ever had.
Had him for General Psych and Human Sexuality. Wondeful teacher, and very funny to boot. Make sure you read and pay attention. NOT for the weak at heart!
He is very dedicated to what he does. He is a great teacher and great person.
Mr. McCoy is an awesome teacher. I had him for Gen. Psych and decided to take him again. His class is very hard is you don't study. He is extremely intelligent very interesting and totally hot. I would recommend him to anyone taking any classes he teaches. My advice if you are taking him: pay attention to lectures, read the book, sit near the front, ask lots of questions and study study study!!!
Jason is an awesome teacher and thanks to him i found what i want to major in...He's very smart and i wish i could take him again, none of my other psy teacher compare...
just your typical, "i think i'm cool cuz i know alot" proffesor. Oh yeah and it didn't help when i saw him out dancing with his students
Mr. Mccoy is a great teacher. He expects alot from his students but if you pay attention and ask question, he will try his best to help you understand what he is talking about. I would recommend him to anyone. He is a little hard but he is a great teacher and loves teaching.
He loves his work as long as it is HIM!He's a **** in love with himself.

He is a nice instructor.

i thought he was awesome! def. sarcastic but gets his point across. Most think hes a jerk but hes chill. anytime i ever needed any help i went to his office and he made sure i got the answers i needed!
He can be a nice guy. He cusses a lot, talks very vulgar and is an egomaniac. He thinks way to highly of himself and talks down on his students!!
Fun class. If you are debating taking it, just go ahead and take it.
hard teacher! looks like a cross between professor snape and trent reznor!
I took this class for human sexuality. it was awesome. LOTS of info, you learn alot and the book is extremely helpful. he hands out study guides and he will not allow you to take his tests if you dont do every question on the study guides. pay attention, dont be late and come to every class! hes brilliant, sarcatic. good luck!
He is Awesome.
Offers so much extra credit. This class is so easy if you actually study, pay attention the the pop quiz questions and read the book. I got 80s on two quizzes and ended up getting 100 because of extra credit.
Worst Teacher ever. It was an online class. Took forever to email me back. Told him I had a huge life crisis and didn't seem to care. For a psychology teacher he seemed to lack in understanding. A bunch of us in the class tried helping each other out since he was no help. Still no A's. If you like reading and no contact your like it.
Jason is an awesome teacher. He can be a ****r from time to time, but cmon people - this is COLLEGE, not highschool. He levels with the students and doesn't sugar-coat anything. It's a hard class but if you ask for help he will help you. He's great for advice too! I felt very comfortable asking him any kind of crazy questions I had.
UGH!!!!!!!
Forget what anyone's said here--McCoy is a great teacher and one of the best CFCC has. He's blunt and honest, does not sugar coat, has a bit of an ego, but is a great teacher who loves what he does. I learned a lot in his class. He's really cool guy & if he sees you're interested in the subject, you have an awesome friend in a high place.
No, he is not HARD, he is challenging. He actually makes you work for your grade, it's not hard to do well in that class. Be prepared for him to call on you randomly--he did it to me! AND DO NOT LET YOUR CELL PHONE GO OFF because you will be told to leave class immediately! I think he is an awesome teacher! I took his class in 2004, he is great.
This professor was extermely arrogant. I mention this because he makes a point to let you know how full of himself he is at least once each class. This can last up to 15 min. I felt like this class was a complete waste of time and energy. He failed to stay on track with the sylabus and his lectures were all over the place with no clear direction.
This is what a college psychologist teacher should be like. A little bit crazy mixed with brilliance. Any student complaining about this class is just to immature "to get it", and deserves to fail. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. You can easier but McCoy is a throwback to when teachers were not robots! Grow up and take the class.
Suffers from extreme arrogance. I took his class online and after one test I emailed him a few questions about the test. First,he failed to answer any of my questions and, instead lectured me on reading better. As it turns out, the answer was found in a later chapter, not covered on this particular test.
for those of you who wish to be coddled...try that in the workplace. Mr. McCoy helps anyone nad I mean ANYONE who wishes to help him/herself. I would bet that most of the naysays NEVER actually asked him for help!
McCoy is a fantastic teacher. Sure, he is a bit cocky. But he has worked extremely hard to get to where he's at and is very passionate about his job. Remember: this is COLLEGE. If you want a good grade you have to work for it! His tests are challenging, but overall one of the best professors I've ever had!!
Learn how to spell your professor's name... McCoy...
He may be a wonderful professor in regular classes at a regular time. However, if you are planning to take his online psychology classes, I would recommend you to think it twice. There are many teachers out there who try to actually "help" students instead of just asking to re-read the chapter. Overall, his "critical thinking" strategy is ineffecti
Ineffective and Brutal
Has a big head and let's it cloud his ability to properly help students. Offers to help when anyone needs it, but when it comes down to it he spends more time making **** comments than actually helping. Much too cocky & acts as if he believes that he has never made a mistake in his life.
Not only has he been my advisor, but I took his Human Sexuality class and learned more than any other class. He pushes you, expects the best, and if you really want to connect, go chat in his office with him. He is real, and an awesome professor. Don't take it if you are in school for an easy A, take it because you enjoy learning.
I took his online class and there is a lot to do on your own. I had trouble keeping up with the homework, but in the end, he really helped me out. Stay on top of the assignments and you will do fine in his class.
Hands down he is one of my favorite teachers. Hes down to earth and is extremly smart. He loves what he does and it shows. As long as you put effort into your work you will do fine. Plus he's sexy :)
McCoy is the best ever. As long as you have a good attitude nd pay attention you will get a good grade. He is also smart, sexy and funny.
He would come in ranting about something each class. I am a shy person and he didn't seem to like quiet people. Would make you feel bad if you didn't understand what was going on. Made me nervous and I withdrew passing after a few weeks. Will never take his class again.
He is very intimidating in class but if you go to his office he is nice. Tends to rample during lectures and cusses alot. Maybe he does it to make the class interesting but it could scare students away. Also test are hard so take good notes. Any little thing he says write it down. He is wonderful once you get to know him so go to his office.
Straight up: I did not like him. Very pompous and intimidating. He directed snide remarks to ANYONE who asked a question and made him/her feel embarrassed. Overall, I think he should not be a teacher, because of his lack of patience, and is a bad representative of CFCC.
Everything was done online. He gives no help. If you cant read hundred of pages to find one line with the answer, you wont do well. This online class was awful.
He talks down to students. Implied we wouldn't go far in life bc we attend cfcc. Rants and raves about his personal drama. Def has favorites, usually the girls in the class. Material would be interesting if we covered it. Instead we hear alot about how great he is... according to him.
I think this professor was very helpful and I enjoyed taking his course. Although he makes you study and actually come to class, I have benefited from taking his class. You need to be prepared to study and actually do work.
If you take notes, pay attention in class, show up to class, you will do well. He is a little conceded, but he knows he stuff. He bends over backwards to help you. But he won't be much help if you don't care enough to even show up for class. On a side note, he is the funniest Prof I've ever had. If you respect him, he respects you back.
This is rather upsetting because all that Mr. McCoy is guilty of is expecting you to care about school. To anyone that gave him a low rating: you only have yourself to blame for failure. Mr. McCoy goes above and beyond to help any student who is willing to ask for it. All he asks is that you actually try and care. Wonderful teacher and friend.
I credit Mr. McCoy with initially sparking my interest in science, although I will debate the legitimacy of most psych research. He is enthusiastic in his instruction, and critical of those with low standards and no interest in learning. I am now in medical school and can honestly say Mr. McCoy had an impact on my life on par with any professor.
Great teacher show up and show a little initiative and you will easily pass
The information covered was very interesting and the class is usually entertaining. The work load can be overwhelming and it is extremely difficult to earn an A. If you have an overwhelming desire to learn about psychology then this is your class, if not take someone else. A lot of the class is learn on your own.
I will admit he can come off as intimidating and harsh, especially if you've never met or had a class with him. But he goes out of his way to help you if you show him respect and that you care about your education and the class. This class had a huge research project though so be prepared to spend most of the time on that. P.S. TAKE NOTES!!
I took human sexuality with him. I was so excited about the class and it was a complete disappointment. He puts so much effort and time into this end of the semster group project...You do not learn that much about human sexuality. And he is intimidating... makes you feel really small as a person.
I'm taking Human Sexuality with him now. For starters, he's very easy on the eyes! He's a great speaker, so it's easy to get wrapped up in his discussion and forget to take notes! It's a bit hard to determine what his tests will be about! I personally feel that he requires too much work for this course though.
Took him for human sexuality and makes it very difficult to get an A. He's a little ridiculous for an elective course and will take points off on the test if he feels you over elaborated. If you ask for help its hard to follow what he is saying
Mr. McCoy is entertaining and really gets you interested in the topic. He does rely heavily on the book, and his tests are fill in the blank and short (very short) essay. However, he lets you pick and choose which questions to answer on the tests which makes it a lot easier. Overall, he is a good teacher and he is always available to help.
Ok this guy if far from easy, but he never promised to be. He teaches. College class at a college level at a college where most students are competing. I appreciated his lack of "spoon feeding" not everyone deserves n a just be/c they show up. Mc coy is no joke show effort and he will too. If not get the f off his roster!!
He first comes off kind of rude. But if you put effort into his course he will be more than happy to help you with anything you need. He is definietly one of the best teachers I've had at cape fear. If you go to his office he is willing to help you with everything and his tests are not very hard at all. Just make sure to read a lot of your book.
Only gives tests. There is nothing else he gives to help balance out the grade. He can be very unprofessional and does not offer the bast of help. I recommend taking another PSY class. Attendance is also very important in this class.
Mr. McCoy's style of teaching is very unhelpful and confusing. He doesn't acknowledge the fact that you may have other classes that are of equal or higher priority and will grade on whether or not you've stopped by his office for whatever reason he comes up with. He's also really rude & disrespectful. Take someone else if you can!!
I have enjoyed his class so far. I actually took part of this class before with a different instructor, and I enjoy McCoy better. I will admit he can seem a bit conceited but he is very enthusiastic and lives what he is teaching, plus his tests are easy if you attend class and study. Looking forward to his human sexuality class next semester.
McCoy is very knowledgeable about his subject and is helpful. He does come off as being very arrogant, changes topic frequently and will waste too much time criticizing the teams about their group project almost making you feel like you are in a company meeting at the beginning of every class.
I took this an elective because i thought it would be an interesting subject to learn but mr mccoy made me feel very small and dumb. He does not do exercises to help us learn. You're supposed to read the text and all information he posts online and basically teach yourself. I can't be effective with that style, maybe some people can.
I love him!! He is one of the best teachers I have had at CFCC. He treats you like college students, and expects you to do the work. He is always available and willing to help, he clearly tells you this throughout the whole semester. Do the work, and you will get an A.
Makes one feel little. Very conceited and makes you feel uncomfortable. Way too obsessed with the end of semester project and not the class it self. I am a student with a 3.8 gpa who is used to different forms of teaching but this man's form is sheer mediocrity. He jumps from place to place in lectures with no sign of a reason or pattern.
This man thrives off curb stomping your grade into the ground and mutilating any sort of self esteem you have. I am an A-B student and he is awful. He's rude, mean and the worst teacher i've ever had. He continuously tells us to go to his office or make an appointment because just telling the class what we need to do in class is hard apparently....
I am a student with a 3.6 GPA and I have never had such a difficult time in a class, especially an elective course. He is always angry and in some cases rude. Our past two test have been ridiculous. The questions are written wrong and we are supposed to assume what the hell he was talking about. Do yourself a favor, do not take his class.
I have taken 5 sociology & psychology courses & have never made lower than a B. I seriously would make an effort to take any of his courses with another professor & avoid him. Countless typos on tests & assignments then blames his students for being confused. Puts WAY too much emphasis on forcing students to come to his office for vital information
Mr. McCoy was arrogant but funny. He was very engaging when teaching. You mostly have to read your book and study, there are only tests and a final project. He likes when students come by his office to say hi or talk about the subject. Gave one EC opportunity.
Not easy, but the best class I've had yet. His lectures were funny and taught me something real. If you want to learn something, he is definitely the teacher for you. If you want an easy ride, go take an art class. I would definitely seek him out if he taught another course.
I've taken psych with 3 different professors and he is my favorite by far. very helpful if you are read to learn.
I loved Mr. McCoy'S class. maybe its because I'm so passionate about psych. but even if you weren't, hes a great teacher. most of his tests were verbatim in the example quizzes so I'm really not sure how anyone could fail this course. great guy, very interesting lectures. i never had the need to skip.
This was hands down my favorite class of this semester. He has extremely engaging lectures and taught things that were interesting, not just facts from a book. He comes off a bit strong condescending at first but he's actually pretty cool. Visiting him in his office would be a good idea.
When I started this class, I thought it was an easy A. So I definitely slacked off and missed serveral classes. I began to go a lot more and realized he is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is sarcastic and just hilarious. He definately makes you work for your grade. I had a D in the class and by the end I came out with a B! GO ME!
McCoy is arrogant and rude. He picks favorites and if you aren't one of them you might as well drop the class. He told us he is mean to his students so he can get it out of his system and go home to be nice to his wife. Thinks he is hot when in reality he is chunky with a superiority complex. Does stick to office hours
Mr. McCoy has wonderful lectures but tends to be sarcastic and a little condescending and too quick to answer a question when you really are trying to stay interested and do what he's asking you to do. Be prepared for pop quizzes and you'll hear about 50 times to READ THE CHAPTER AND TAKE NOTES before he talks about it. He is funny and passionate
I was amazed by how knowledgeable he was on the subject I definitely learned a lot. The class is hard but you can do well if you try. Most of the tests were open note so I took up to 20 pages. Don't miss class, he tends to give pop quizzes and covers a lot of information. He knows he is smart and he makes sure everyone in the class knows it too
I took introduction to psychology and it was very difficult. If you don't have prior knowledge in this subject, it'll be much harder to do well. He gives pop quizzes and if you don't miss any days he will round up your grade. There are 4 tests which are difficult and over 3 chapters at a time. He is sarcastic, but has interesting lectures!
I took McCoys online PSY 241 and thoroughly enjoyed it. You are given all of your HW's and Tests for the entire semester day one, so you can work at your own pace. I recommend doing at least one section a week to stay on track and ahead. You have got to read all the chapters to do well! You can definitely make an A if you do so and put time aside!
Very fair, will take him for other psychologies.
Definitely not one of the easiest classes I've ever taken, but McCoy is a great professor. I would recommend him to any one interested in taking psychology. Definitely will work in this class. Also be prepared to take pop quizzes almost everyday. Can not thank Mr. McCoy enough for being a good professor.
Mr. McCoy was odd at first but became my favorite professor. Each lecture was interesting and participation is encouraged. Do the homework and take notes on it! You will have pop quizzes each week with open notes. He takes top 2 of learnsmarts, attendance, and quizzes! Don't have to get the physical book. Get McGraw connect. The book is included.
Took this class online. Clear schedule and grading. Just do what you're supposed to do and you'll pass. Very responsive to emails and nice. Discussion boards were a pain to do and some people don't post till the last minute. Overall great course and useful information about development of humans
I was very satisfied with Mr. McCoy's online psych 241 class. There are 2-4 learnsmarts and one test every two weeks. The learnsmarts are easy. The tests are easy (50 questions with an hour and 15 mins). I highly recommend McCoy if you are choosing to take online, the work load is not heavy at all. Discussion boards count as extra credit!
Great instructor, extremely knowledgeable of Psy field, if you don't waste his time he won't waste yours, Pick his brain before, or after class, or during office hours, very helpful,
He's amazing! If you attend every class you will be graded on a 10 point scale/or given an A. The only thing he's strict about is phones. But it really benefits because you end up with a great grade and the test is everything learned about in class. There are 3 long assignments but are optional, help you learn, & 10 points extra credit on tests!
The most important thing about his class is attendance and learning from the book. He is an excellent teacher and if you take time to go to his office he will help you out.
great overall teacher, kinda hard to follow lectures doesn't use many power points, make sure you get a book, mandatory class appearance for a good reason.
Mr. McCoy gives great lectures, always interesting and engaging. If you do the reading and study the material then you will do well. If you miss classes you hurt yourself. Pay attention, do the work, take advantage of practice tests opportunities and the learn smarts. No laziness in this class. Slackers do poorly. He knows his stuff! No phones!
Textbook online and included in with tuition, Keep up with the few assignments that he assigns. Test answers are usually from the book and keep a note of examples he uses in class they might show up as a question. All and all amazing teacher
Mr. McCoy is a great instructor all in all he is the best instructor I've had in a long time. Online text book included with tuition. Would take another push class of his again ,actually tried to but classes were full lucky devils.
prof McCoy is one of the most understanding teachers I have had. The only work you have to do is discussion boards weakly and they are easy and fun.
Took online. Highly recommend. I brought the optional loose leaf, and used it on EVERY test and quiz. Highlight your book, like your online smart book and use on the quizzes. You will get a 100%. Prof McCoy is very encouraging, and communicates clearly. Final is optional. Will drop your lowest quiz and test if you take it. Time consuming but EASY!!
Prof McCoy is just GREAT. Take online and buy optional loose leave. Highlight text book, like it is online and use it for your quizzes. Also use it for your test. Sometimes the McGraw hill connect chapter quizzes can be time consuming but its EASY. I promise. McCoy is encouraging. Final is optional. Drops your lowest test and quiz if you take.
Super easy classes! Each module is a smartbook assignment and an exam that accompanies it. There was only 8 modules and the last is optional. I also took his life span development class and it was the same.
He is highly recommended bc will let you know what to focus on for your test and all tests has a 1 hour time stamp to complete.
I took this class online. It was very easy, just make sure you read the textbook and do the homework. The amount of questions on the homework can be daunting (300+ questions per week!!) but aren't hard once you just sit down and do them. I barely had any interaction with the professor, this was a teach-yourself type of class. Interesting subject.
He was great. The class is an easy A; read the chapters, do the chapter quizzes, and unit tests. I was struggling this semester, missed a couple unit tests and chapter quizzes. I emailed him and he responded right away. There is no late work for the course but there is a final exam that replaces two of your lowest exam grades.
Remote taught at my Uni in California. Really easy to talk to and makes course content really easy to understand. Lecture heavy for 413 but not 414 with most emphasis being on the group research project.
Professor McCoy was easily the best teacher I had during my time at CFCC. I ended up switching my major to psychology because his lectures were so interesting. Do not hesitate to take any of his classes, I guarantee you will enjoy it
This was a very interesting class I learned a lot, pretty easy to get an A or B if you do well on the exams. Quick to answer emails or any questions.
Take Him!!! Not only can you learn a lot about Psych, teaches you about applicable, relevant things aside from just class content of serious value. Will work with you with any issue. Attendance not mandatory but extra points for participation. Direct assignments, not much work, gives you everything you need to know about tests. Loves discussing.
This is a very easy class, i recommend this professor (quizlet is your best friend) - 1 exam and 1 writing assignment a week, however the professor does forget to post the work a lot. i took this lass 100% online. if you're looking for an easy class this is it.
Finding solutions is easy. You can expect one weekly examination & writing task. The instructor provides valuable & concise feedback readily available for inquiries. The course textbook is accessible online. The content is exceptionally comprehensible and incorporates contemporary scenarios to maintain an engaging & enjoyable learning experience.
Mr. McCoy is a very good college professor in my opinion. He really appreciates attendance and his work was very easy. He assigned mostly inquizitives which I can 99% of the time find the answer on a quizlet, same with the tests. He gives great lectures and is a funny guy:)
This guy is horrible. He constantly forgot to open up the courses causing us to be behind. He made a mistake and gave me a 0 for one of my assignments even though it was turned in on time. I've been emailing him for months and he just gives me the runaround. Here we are at the end of the semester, and he still has not corrected it.
Great class on lifespan perspective. Heavy course load but honestly as long as you stay ahead then it will be a lot easier. Just read the chapters and turn things in on time. Professor McCoy is great to work with. He takes his time with grading papers but everything else is a quick and pretty fast paced. A great online course.
Chill funny guy, he cares a lot about this field and makes you want to do the very best you can. The assignments aren't difficult as long as you do the readings and watch the videos he assigns, his lectures are engaging and I had fun doing the final project. Attendance is important so make sure to come, and turn things in on time.
Took this course over the summer and we did the same thing each week. Exams, homework questions, and a writing assignment. Very manageable. The writing assignments were sometimes 2 page papers, or just coming up with a catchy quote for the reading that week. Very easy and would take him again.
Mr. McCoy doesn't have respect for his students time and was very frustrating while I took his class. Once a week, more often than not class was canceled without a heads up email. Assignments were graded extremely late/hard to find. The class was overall easy, and I enjoyed the material, but I would never take a class with Jason McCoy again!
I would not recommend Mr McCoy. He was anything but encouraging and nearly all his remarks were sarcastic and made you feel stupid for asking a question. He would cancel class without beforehand emailing the students and we would only find out by a note written on the board after we'd already driven there. Tests were also really hard to study for.
Cancelled class without warning, took forever to respond to emails, if he ever did, and was very rude. Please don't take Professor McCoy.
Makes learning enjoyable, very easy to understand harder concepts.
Mr McCoy does great lectures WHEN he lectures. We ended up watching a lot of his prerecorded videos and I feel like I didn't get as much out of them versus when he actually lectures. Make sure you're in class because he gives you answers for the exams you won't know unless you were in class that day. He's very understanding and will work with you
Liked to use lecture time to consistently remind the class that he was a masochist and not a good person--strange. If you can get past that he is a perfectly fine professor.
There was SO much reading to do each week. Only other homework was inquizitives which weren't bad. There are a couple of exams which have random questions on them that have nothing to do with PSY. Odd guy but I got an A in the class. As long as you put in effort, you'll pass and he bumps your letter grade up if only a few points off.
