This professor is awesome!!! I can honestly say this because I hate English classes, but this man made it pretty simple. Just follow what he asks of you (HW, papers, etc.)...plus he offers tons of E.C. opportunities. You'll learn alot from this man!

This teacher is the best english teacher I've ever had. I didn't even know how to write a paragraph before I took his class, now I'm getting A's on my papers in english 1A. He really cares about his students and he will go out of his way to help you.

One of the best teachers I have had! Very tough but he gets you to THINK and ask questions. He expects a lot from you - just remember to turn in all the homework. Go to his office hours before an essay is due to get feedback. This will help your grade

I wasn't supposed to be in this cockamamie class, so upon arrival on the first day, I was completely aprehensive. Nonetheless,McFaul made a remedial class bearable,and somehow, entertaining. If you want a young-at-heart teacher who genuinely tries to identify with his students,take him.Hes a riot.

He's hot so going to class is not a problem. The assignments are realistic and you really learn alot as far as writing a good paper. He is a great professor, and did I mention he's hot?

Really cool teacher. I've had his friend, Mr. MacDonald for Eng. 68 and 1A, so I am familiar with the format they require for their essays. One note, follow the format (you will know when you have him) or else it will be tough. I don't like English, so writing 5 essays this semester is not cool.

McFaul is a great professor. He's willing to help his students as much as possible. If you do your work you'll get an A. I took his online course & I got an A. If I can get an A in an online course that means the Professor is really easy or just good. In this case, McFaul was just a really good teacher. He always helped me when I asked. & he's Hot!

Makes you think a lot.... in a good way. You will actually learn in this his class and feel like you have really accomplished something once you finish! I got an A both times I had him. (Eng 68 and 1A) Take him when he comes back after his trip out of country. That's also a plus, he is well educated and travels a lot and will share his stories!

Fantastic teacher! Very intelligent (almost intimidating) and very concise. Use his essay format EXACTLY the way he shows you and you'll get an A easy. He does begin to get picky with grammar but its not enough of a factor to not take such an easy teacher.

Hands down my favorite college professor. His delivery and presence in the classroom was top notch. He made me WANT to come to class as I never found our weekly three hours boring or repetitive. Professor McFaul is an extraordinary teacher. His skill in the classroom is unique and has a way to get the whole class to take interest. He is a bit of a hardass, but its for our benefit. I have taken him before and have learned many things from him. He is very helpful as long as your not to lazy to approach him. I would highly recommend him.

Prof Mc Faul is willing to help when you need it. Though his assignents are a little difficult, he is willing to clarify if needed. I took him online, so I don't know his demeanor in a regular class. However, I did get an A. If you are able to handle an online class, I would take him.

Great guy, I took 4 classes with him. He is not an easy class if you want to pass english easy, but you definetly learn a lot not just english but many other things. He does not tolerate cheating at all, and you really don't need to with this class!

Holy Cow! I took McFaul for online IC and it was ok I got a B I guess no one splattered tomato sauce on my final! I'd recommend him for IA that way you can buy his phenomenal book What A Trip which is filled with poignant stories and will help you write better.

The quizes are very easy, I studied 45 minutes before classes and got over 100% for extra credit on every one (vocab quizes). His essays can be hard, I would say its not that easy of a class; however, he is a nice teacher and keeps you interested, which I think is important.

This professor is anything but a waste of time. He is honestly the most motivating teacher I have ever had. Class is never dull and he seems genuinely interested in helping his students, as long at the student wants to learn. Use his office hours to your advantage. McFaul teaches English 67/68 through a strict formula to ensure that people understand the basics of advancing arguments and making them concrete. A lot of people complain about his approach, but I think this is one of his strong points. Patience people! He's funny, entertaining and keeps people motivated. Professional! Can't wait for his 1A class!

i took jason's online hybrid course and it was manageable. the essays are all argumentative, and examples are always given for a head start. he was very helpful during his office hours and good with emailing. i definitely recommend him and ladies hes pretty HOT. haha

McFaul makes sure you learn the material, but he is very helpful. Many say that only girls pass his class, but I am male, and took his online 6 week 1C class and got an A, so it is possible. I also was taking 20 units at Chaffey at the same time, so I dont see why anyone who actually puts forth the effort wouldnt get an A.

Well, his class started out super easy, then it got kinda hard. He has vocab quiz every week (only 3 words and its 36 possible points out of 24, means if you ace it..it's 12 extra credit every week) he shows you EXACTLY what the test if gonna look like. He is very knowledgeable and has a funny example for everything he says.

If you are a slacker this class is going to be hard. However, there are a lot of extra credit points available. The people who say only hot girls pass his class are just mad because they thought they could slack off and get a good grade. This class does not work that way. Do your work and you will pass.

I must one of the most interesting, fun and relevant classes I've ever taken. Prof. McFaul is one of those professors who actually believes if you fail, he's failed too! There aren't too many professors like that anymore who actually care. His assignments are reasonable and he is always willing to work with you. Highly, Highly recommend!!!

Very smart and attractive teacher. Looks like Wentworth Miller. 1 paper and 5 essays. Even the in-class writning, he would tell u wht u are exactly expected to write before. Quizes are just Vocab, and these are all listed on the back pages of textbook. Most essays are based on reading, and u have to work hard. It's not an easy A.

Mr. McFaul is extremely helpful and clear. He's grading is hard--but not impossible. You'll have 1 issue/problem paper + 2 take home essays + 2 in class essays + 1 in class final. And he offers tons of extra credit for those who are average writers but still need an A. Highly recommended, unless you're a stupid slacker.

I took the 6 week Winter Intersession on-line hybrid class and I found this class VERY difficult. I struggled big time. He was helpful when I asked questions but I still did poorly. The essays I thought I did well on, received bad grades (65%!) and the ones I thought I did terrible on, received decent grades. I have no idea why!

Lazy people get bad grades in any class. Life isn't easy stop expecting to get good grades just because you show up. Go to his office hours if you want help he is very helpful.

Don't ever worry about falling asleep in his class!! His stories and Enthusiasm keep you Focused all throughout class and really help you relate to the materials you will be learning!

He was a very helpful teacher, especially if you have trouble with structuring your essays and paragraphs. Only gives quiz's on his Money Words cd. He clearly explains everything that you need to know. Sometimes he goes off topic but his stories are very interesting. He is not boring at all and is willing to help when you ask questions.

I took one of Jason's online classes and I did better than I expected, B+. I really recommend taking his online course because it is an easy A. He offers a lot of extra credit through postings and a reading assignment. The tests are easy vocabulary. Really down to earth and interesting guy. Go to his office hours, it WILL help! He's not difficult, just very tough on grading. He grades hard he says because its your last eng. class before the real world. If you work hard youll do good,if you do a half fast job-you wont. Basically, you teach yourself-Follow/mimic the examples he gives in the book and you'll do very well.+ the extra credit can bump u up a letter grade.

I took him for the six week hybrid class and it was A LOT of work. There were tons of assignments to complete. The test are just vocab which isn't to difficult but the assignments do require a lot of time. I would recommend to take him for the 16 wk course. There is more time for him to explain the assigments.

The last few comments are the most accurate of McFaul's current teaching methods. It is by the book and self-explanatory. The text includes examples of essays he wants you to follow and he grades based exactly on those formats. If you're still unclear, he offers his guidance. As for other less charming reviews, notice their grammar.

He is very very helpful, I always pay attecion to him, when I first attend to class I did not know how to write paragraphs or essays and now I feel confident about it... I surely recomend people to take Professor McFaul. Believe me you will not regreat about it...

I took Jason for 1A and yes he is a tough grader, but all you have to do is meet with him prior to turning your paper in and he will tell you what to fix and how to do it. He also offer's ample opportunities for exra credit!

dude... he is the best english teacher i have ever had. eng67 was extremely useful. he actually TEACHES you how to write, unlike other professors... after taking his class i did not need to take 68. i am planning to take his summer 1a online class. overall great teacher, you'll look forward to everyclass... no joke.

McFaul's funny, charming, & intelligent, but a bit condescending/arrogant mainly to those displaying incompetence. The HYBRID 1C class is hard since you have to teach yourself everything, but he proofreads your paper & gives MANY examples/exercises that really help, so it's possible to do well. He DEFINITELY strengthens your writing. I recommend.

I enjoyed his class. The prompts for the required essays were challenging and fun, if you are willing to do the work. His grading is fair, and he is very understanding if you can't make it to the few required meetings for the online class; he allows the students to reschedule. One of the best professors at Mt.Sac!

ONLINE CLASS: Professor McFaul is an engaging teacher who presents incisive examples during his lectures. His essay comments are limited in their scope, but may still help the student improve. The in-class essays and take-home essays both require much time and thought.

Taking ENG1A online at the moment. Professor McFaul is a great teacher. He understands the shortcomings of the online system, so he does what he can to help students out. You should do fine if you listen to his written comments on returned work and come prepared. The pointers and advice given during office hours help A LOT, so I recommend that.

Professor is highly self seeking. Often states stories about how smart he is compared to others. I always got A's on papers but I now get a F or C. But, he does teach you properly and you will learn how to write. Don't get offended if you ask a question and he responds with a sarcastic answer and you feel really dumb. Happens all the time.

McFaul is a great professor. He answers your questions and clears up your doubts. I took for the nline/hybrid 1C class. He can be tough if you dont try. The key to passing is going to his office hours and asking whatever question u have and how to structure the essay. Do that and you'll pass. Just dont slack off

English is not my subject, but McFaul teaching and book really teaches you how to write. I took him for 67 and now with 1C. I regretted not taking him for 1A. He's very intelligent and values good manners. There's 2 take home essay and three in class essays. Lastly, theres extra credit opportunity as well. Do yourself a favor and take him.

Don't take him if you aren't prepared to work. He assigns complex essays that you really have to think about to do well on. He is helpful.

McFaul cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He could probably be doing other things for a living that would offer more generous compensation, but he believes in what he's doing. I've taken 1A from him (good class), but in this class his focus is on teaching students how to think and how to argue. I've definitely learned a lot.

I am currently taking his class and am enjoying it. Gives plenty of examples that are easy to understand. If you're looking for a teacher to sugar coat things for you, this is not the teacher you are looking for. Very blunt yet refreshing. PHEW. His class was hardcore (lol), but insightful. Though my brain wanted to jump out of my head & leap from his 3rd floor classroom at times, this is probably THE most helpful English class I've taken. I feel like I'm a better writer & I'll definitely be using all the USEFUL information he taught in the future. Learned a lot, thanks prof! :)

McFaul is the most intelligent professor that I have had in my college career. He is clear and straight to the point in what he wants from you. Just make sure you nail his vocab tests and stick to his prompts and you'll be fine.

Prof. McFaul is a super cool and handsome professor). He's very straight-forward and tells you from day one what his likes and dislikes are. Don't be intimidated by his large vocabulary and composure because he really is a nice person. He gives you little vocab. quizzes that can be E.C. in the end. Just follow his prompts and you'll be fine.

Took his hybrid class and it was easier than I thought it would be. Every lecture he tells you exactly what he wants and his quizzes are super easy! he is a really funny guy and goes off topic sometimes but its hilarious! I have learned the most with him in my college career :D

He is very clear in what he wants, making intimidating papers seem easy!! The essays were all in class, which helps fend off procrastinating, and the lectures were extremely helpful when it came time to write the essays. He can come across as arrogant sometimes, and the quizzes aren't worth very many points. Failed all of them and still got an A.

Even though his class is a hybrid, he doesn't assign anything due online. Just show up once a week, take good notes, and do well on the essays. Follow his essay format EXACTLY to receive a good grade on essays. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask! He is more than happy to help! He also offers extra credit, so take advantage of it!

He is such a great teacher. He is very straight forward, so if you get butthurt easily don't take this class. You can tell he just wants his students to write, and speak correct proper english. He is also very helpful with the essays, which are very short ones by the way haha. Anyways, i took this class for fall and i very much enjoyed this class!

Jason McFaul is one of the most intelligent professors I've come across. His class was engaging and his essay topics aren't dreadful. The issue I had was the way he wants you essays in a pointexamplecommentary manner. He leaves no room for anything else and grades rather harshly if you stray away from. He is the best English teacher I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Its all about the essays though, but the beauty is that he tells you exactly what he wants there is no BS. He is precise to the point but he does challenge you to be better. I'm so glad I took him he made me a better writer. If you want to learn, take him.

Professor McFaul was a great professor. It says its a hybrid class but you dont do any work online, its just one meeting a week! The only tests he gives are vocab tests which are easy to get 100% on, and he even offers extra credit on them. Theres 4 or 5 essays you have to do but they are easy if you follow directions! TAKE HIM.

He says it like it is. It's easy but hard-work. Follow directions, ask questions and utilize the writing center!

He's so sweet, very smart, helpful, very clear and very funny. He has us lecturing taking notes and then there will be 1 min where he'll go off topic then go back to lecturing it's so much awesome than lecturing all day and get bored. I always get excited going to his class.

He makes the lectures interesting, but purchasing all of the books does get pricey. I enjoyed his humor and would take again. Definitely makes you work for your grade, but supplies you with clear cut directions to do so.

DO NOT INTERRUPT HIM!!!!! One of the things he hates the most is to be interrupted when he is in the middle of an important lesson. One of the things i enjoyed in his class were his stories and how they somewhat related to the lessons. TO BE BRIEF, he makes what is hard to easy.

Great teacher! Very hard and expects greatness. He really pushes you to want to do better. Vocab quizzes and in class essays and take home! Always stay on top of your reading!! He will put you on blast if you aren't prepared or not paying attention. He is a hard but you will feel accomplished after passing his class. you NEED ur text books

I had the pleasure of taking Professor McFaul's class for English 1A & 1C. He is a tough grader and expects a lot but also provides clear cut directions as to what he expects. As long as you do the assigned reading and stay on top of your essays there is no reason you should not walk away from this class with an A or B. He's a wonderful professor!

Love him as a professor. He's fair, and I love listening to him lecture. Such an intelligent individual. He also helps you drastically improve your writing skills.

Here it is plain and simple: this man is EXTREMELY intelligent and charismatic. He makes you WANT to work hard, as if it is not a chore but rather an internal challenge to make you a better person. Jason McFaul is an excellent professor. I thought of myself as a poor writer, yet his class helped me improve significantly. What supported me the most is the fact that he teaches an organized writing structure, and is very clear about his expectancy in the essays. If you are ready to put in the work he will really help you learn.

Professor McFaul has been one of the most inspiring professors I've had. He's very intelligent, witty, and to the point. His grading criteria is very clear. As long as you follow that and participate in class, you'll be fine.

I loves prof. McFaul. He is very clear and structured on what he wants on an essay and that helped me a lot since I tend to feel lost when writing essays. My writing has improved a lot since taking his class and I feel more confident about my writing. I did struggle a lot with in-class essays but mostly because I didn't practice prewriting it.

I took him for this Spring and I can say at first he seems very particular on how he wants his papers written but if you pay attention in class and follow his guideline I dont see why you will fail. He was a pleasant professor and caring. Its up to the student to put in the effort. He does offer extra credit on the vocab exams :)

Professor McFaul will be someone you either hate or love. His teaching style isn't for everyone since he pushes you to use your head and I respected that about him. I really enjoyed his class because he challenged me to think more effectively! If you like to EARN YOUR GRADES through hard work then take him. He also offers extra credit which helps!

Do yourself a favor and take professor McFaul. I was a little worried when I started but most of the people who are complaining are just lazy. The work he gives you is more than manageable. Gives a lot of extra credit. You will get a decent grade as long as you try and don't be lazy. Overall, it was a fun class.

McFaul is an incredible professor. This class is simple, but it is not easy. He makes his expectations clear and helps his students to meet them. He is very passionate about teaching, and it shows. He is a pretty hard grader but he always offers help. I took his hybrid class but it probably could of been fully online. Lots of online homework but not super overwhelming. I went from an 83 to a 92 at the end of the semester because of all the extra credit he provides. Really wants his students to succeed and his lectures are never heavy.

Interesting professor. Took hybrid class during summer. The books can be pricy. Interesting lectures and can seem intimidating. Has a pretty straight forward way that he wants his essays written. 2 inclass essays and 2-3 take home essays. Always ends class a little bit early. Offers extra credit on quizzes so utilize those.

Yes, he has a very strict guideline for how assignments are to be done, and no he does not tolerate people messing around in class, but I appreciated all of these things. He is always willing to review your work and gives good feedback on how to improve. I can 100% say I came out of this class a better writer. Bonus is he has great writing prompts.

Prof. McFaul is one my favorite teachers of all time. Hes very interested in teaching and loves to tell stories. He also gives you the format he wants for his essays and if you put in a decent amount of work, you should definitely be fine. There are also plenty of extra credit opportunities in addition to his great class!

Took Professor McFaul for Engl1A & Engl1C and from all my English Professors in the past I have become a stronger writer because of McFaul. His grading structure is simple to follow and he clearly explains his expectations for essays. He offers extra credit that can substantially change a grade by one letter but you must be passing without it :)

McFaul is one of my favorite professors. He talks to students to make them feel comfortable which gets the class to talk. When someone is stuck on how to write for an essay, he helps a little and offers office hour help. Overall, if you attend the class and listen to his lectures, you'll pass.

You came to be better and improve your educational goal so an essay A is not part of his syllabus but once you get a hang of the class... you will be absolutely thankful that you took English 1C with him.

Being out of school for awhile and this class being my first class I would not have chosen a different professor. It's a hybrid class, so about a third of your grade is from online assignments but majority of your grade is coming from the essays. He inspires you to write and grades you fairly.

BEST professor. Not an easy A but, I learned how to write a good essay with significant evidence and examples. Home/bookwork ties in heavily to essays and class discussions, best to pace yourself and stay on top of readings. Take notes on essays, instructions are translucent and formulaic. Professor McFaul was the most interesting professor that I have ever had. He can make the stereotype of boring English into something more fun and adventurous. You can tell he loves what he does and shows passion when he teaches. . He does offer extra credit, but you must be a good standing student. He gives great feedback and offers help.

I took this class in the fall of 2019 and I am glad I did. I was never very good at writing, but this professor made me challenge myself and in fact motivated me to be a better writer. It really shows that he cares for his students and the material he has to offer.

We first started as in class lectures, but due to COVID19, we switched to online classes. I got worried about the transition to online class, but Professor McFaul made it so understandable for us. Greatest professor Ive ever had so far. His online class was structurally organized from the first day of class to the end. The course work is really manageable and in order to get a good grade, just do what the instructions say and read any other information that he provides for assignments. I will use what Ive learned for the rest of my life.

Professor McFaul sincerely cares about the success of his students. It was the hardest class Ive ever taken but its a good experience! The class doesnt get really hard til week 12 when you do your first essay but its doable, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE these essays take several days to write! My opinion is that you wont find a better 1C prof than him

I took Professor McFaul during Spring 2021. He is awesome ! He is very helpful, & always available for his students. Being an online class, he did a great job in explaining each assignment in detail and provided examples. I had my son mid semester, and he gave me additional time to submit my assignments. He is hilarious, and inspirational.

I absolutely LOVED this class. Professor Mcfaul has created a perfectly structured class that was easy to navigate and when I had questions, he was there. I would 100% take another of his classes and recommend him to anyone. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Homework from Mon-Thurs. 3 I/P papers and 1 essay. Lots of discussions examine the texts. Lots of texts you'll read and you don't have to completely understand them. Just wants you to type what you interpret the texts to be. There are vocab quizzes, but you're able to use the Money Word pdf. Don't be afraid to ask him for help. Do the extra credit.

He was definitely a tough grader for papers and had specific instructions with how he wanted assignments to be done, but honestly if you do all the work you WILL pass! For discussions, do the reading (dont worry if you dont completely understand) & elongate your responses and youll be good. For an A, do the extra credit! Definitely recommend! :)

Professor McFaul is an amazing Professor! He really wants he students to engage with each other in class through discussions and he gives a lot of extra-credit opportunities. I took this class during winter so it went by in 6 weeks but honestly it was an enjoyable 6 weeks. He will also get back to you quickly and provides great feedback for work :)

Professor McFaul took over the class half way through and he was organized and gave clear instruction. He responds quickly to messages and gives out his phone number. I would recommend you do all homework it all relates to the papers due. Have him review your papers he will give you pointers. I would recommend if you are willing to put the work in.

Although I got an A in this class, by no means is this an easy class. I took this professor during the winter semester but I strongly suggest not taking it in 6 weeks especially if you have a lot of things going on in life. I had to WORK for the grade I got but overall just read the rubrics for compositions and use Grammarly.

Professor McFaul is very kind and willing to help as long as you reach out, but this class was very difficult. The workload gets overwhelming very quickly, and although that is likely for a six week class, in order to achieve an A you must WORK VERY HARD. Achieving an A is not impossible, but you MUST be willing to do the work.

Great professor and extremely friendly. We used a textbook and a flash drive that together was less than $100. He makes the class fun and the work isn't heavy. A couple of essays here and there but they come with a very descriptive template that's easy to follow. If you follow the template, you'll get a good grade. Definitely recommend his class.

Professor McFaul is absolutely amazing. Turn in all your homework and do the quizzes and you will do great. This class has the clearest instructions and he is a really nice man.

Now this a professor you should consider taking. He is absolutely someone you should consider taking for your classes. He gives good feedback, his teacher assist is beyond sweet, and assists you in ways that matter. He also has a great sense of humor as well. So overall, I would recommend taking his class. Also, it's a safe zone for LGBTQ+ people.

Great professor that teaches you a lot during the semester. I took this class online and thought it was well-organized and easy to navigate. He is a relatively strict grader but is overall very reasonable in his decisions. This is not an easy class by any means, but it is doable. Overall, I thought this was a very helpful class.

He's a great professor that I would recommend taking. Missing assignments is a nonnegotiable as you will need 80% in the Homework category, and 70% in the Essay category to pass. So Make sure to submit assignments on time. If you need the support he makes himself available outside of class. Simply put he's stand up guy and an even better Professor

Professor McFaul is amazing! I'm not sure what else to say other than that. He accepted late work without penalizing, gave amazing feedback and even offered to given detailed feedback if asked! Gave out his personal number in case you ever had questions. I'll hopefully be registering to take 1C with him.

Probably the best online class I'll ever take. As someone who despises writing classes, his was the least painful. Extremely organized and clear. Some downsides are you have to buy a proprietary book (I think he writes them under a pseudonym), as well as a PDF of vocabulary words. Despite the $70, he's the best bet for English here at Mt. SAC.

I love the way Professor McFaul teaches. This was my 2nd class with him & I was not disappointed at all. He has online teaching mastered. Gives clear instructions & guidance to all of his assignments. Responds to questions promptly. Gives clear rubrics. Don't skip any announcements or weekly intros, most questions are answered there. NO COMPLAINTS!

3 I/P papers and 1 Essay. Very touch grader but offers a lot of extra credit to compensate for it. There's a genuine interest in our well-being and academic success and always answers emails quickly.

Honestly, I loved taking this course online, I took both English 1A and 1C, and for me personally, it was a super easy class and he doesn't grade that hard. This class was pretty organized and clear. If anything, doing the vocab was the most tedious thing.
