Fair and passionate about the course. Texas State is notorious for difficult history classes. Dr. Mellard kept the material interesting and purposeful. I am so glad I had to take this class and really glad to have had Dr. Mellard as my instructor. If you miss class you will not do well. There are daily quizzes that amass to 10% of your grade.

He is confusing and his class has no structure. He just bounces around on a timeline making it difficult to take notes that are necessary for the test. Quizzes every class on irrelevant detail from readings. Tests require this same detailed info. Gives unclear assignments and expects you to complete them perfectly, with info not told to include.

I genuinely couldn't care less about Hist. and this class was no different. Just make sure to take notes, ask your classmates for help, and join the groupme! There are quizzes on the chapters of the required text (answers on quizlet), there are two additional readings which you will have to write a paper about. And there are 3 essay exams as well.

AMAZING, i took professor Mellard in fall 2020. I am not one to like history at all but Mellard talked about history in a way as if it was a fun story. It was easy to stay engaged the entire class and homework was easy as well as the major grade assignments. 10/10 recommend.

He is a good professor and you can tell he is passionate and educated on the curriculum. I personally found his class super boring though. I had a hard time paying attention during his long lectures. But the "exams" ( just essays) are pretty easy. I barely took notes or went to class and got As and Bs on my essays. This class is pretty easy.

Professor Mellard's class is really easy to get an A in as long as you go to lectures and take notes. All powerpoints are posted through canvas but it is up to you to take notes to be able to do well on exams. Assignments are on inquizitive and tests are designed as prompts that you have to answer (pick 4 out of 10).

The tests are all essays rather than MCQ which an be nice in terms of not having to study a ton because he gives you a few days to complete them! While there is a lot of homework it is all graded on inquisitive so it is participation based and easy & fast to complete if you read the textbook. Very easy class to pass.

I absolutely adore Professor Mellard! He clearly knows how what he is talking about and he makes the class interesting. My only problem is that I am more of a visual learner and most of the information was not on the slides but it wasn't too hard to keep up. Attendance is mandatory but you get 8 excused absences so it's not too bad.

Dude is extra af when it comes to exams. He will give you 30 IDs (names, events, bills, etc) to study but will put 9 random ones on the test? one long essay and one short essay for ONE exam, that needs to be written in class. Just does too much for no reason.

honestly does way too much for it being a required core class. the exams are 3 parts; IDs, short essay, and long essay. and this is all expected to be done for one exam in person. way too much work in my opinion. also expected us to complete our final along with an additional assessment all in the same timeframe. would not recommend at all.

Dr. Mellard is a very good professor! He is super kind, gives you free absences in case of emergencies and he is always available to reach. He is an easy grader. Beware of the super writing intensive exams, and make sure you prepare well to write a long essay, short essay, and 4 paragraph questions in a span of an hour and a half.

I'm not the biggest fan of history, but I honestly enjoyed going to this class. Exams were usually about 4-5 pages of writing. You'll do 4 identifications, one short and one long essay. This class is easy if you just put a little bit of time into homework and studying for the exams. Most of the time I studied the night before and got a 90 or above!

You get about 8 unexcused absences, but if you show up to class and take notes you'll be sure to pass. I loved going to Mellard's lectures. He is funny/engaging and wants you to participate. Only three essay tests, and some online assignments that take a while but he drops a bunch of them. The only thing I didn't like was that the IA's grade the tests and if you get assigned to an annoying one you're kind of SOL.
