Keeps it fun and keeps you laughing

--He's extremely fun and easy-going. He knows a lot about Asian Religion but so far hasn't focused much on the "CULTURE" aspect of the class. He likes to joke around while teaching and ultimately, keeping this interesting.

he is easy going, very easy to approach, not standoffish. he is very knowledgable, funny, likes to know what movies you saw over the weekened. if you pay attention, take notes, study, ask questions when you need clarification, you are guaranteed an A in the class. this class is not hard just a little time consuming. he is a great teacher.thanks

He keeps the class very exciting and is very helpful if you don't understand something. His tests and grading system are very fair. I was not looking forward to this class but was sad when it came to an end. AWESOME teacher!!! I highly recomend him.

This guy is so young he looks like a student. Really nice, layed back guy though. He takes boring topics and makes them funny, so you can't get bored. Tests are pretty easy. However, his notes tend to be messy, and he doesn't follow the book, so pay attention to his lectures!

I have never had such a great professor... I wish they all could be like this. Not only is he totally knowledgable about religion but very funny... Never a dull moment. He is always available for questions by phone, email or in person... There is no reason anyone should walk out of this class with less then an A.

Professor Messana is great! He's young (mid-thirties, maybe?), personable, interesting, and very helpful. His lectures are all over the place, but he gives exam reviews that clarify everything. This class (accelerated summer session) had no assignments at all. Do not buy the textbook, Professor Messana doesn't use it. I really enjoyed this class!

I took his class last summer 06. He was a fine teacher and made students laugh. Through him I found comp religion quite interesting. You should take his class in summer. In six weeks you're done and got an A too. He loves watching The Simpsons.

Excellent professor and always kept the class interesting. I learned a lot about different religiions in his class. The only thing I think needs some tweeking is the field trips....maybe better organized. I would definitely recommend a hummanities class taught by Jason Messana

"His Imperial Majesty" is a pleasure. His clever humor keeps you laughing, listening, and learning. Can easily take notes on your own, and not just what he writes on the board. He gives a term sheet before each test to make sure you've gotten everything. Simply study lecture notes, and you'll earn an A. Sweet, personable, and easy on the eyes!

I actually had him two classes in a row (humanities and comparative religions)His classes are awesome! He's very entertaining and his notes are easy to follow. He always eases into class and he even lets you get the slides for the test to study. He gives you a review so you can study from the notes. I didn't by the book for either of his classes.

Comparative religions was so great with him as a teacher! His field trips are fun and you only have to go to 2 of the 5. 3rd is xtra credit. His lectures are fun and it's all from notes. There is a review sheet given and he tells you which ones are short answer. You really should be at class though.. overall, he's great!

One of the best teacher i ever had! It was fun, he is not bad to look at, and it was easy. All you have to do i go on a couple of field trips and study the vocab sheet he gives you. The exams are straight from them. Towards the end of the sem. he even gave us answers to exams prior to them

Jason is a hell of a teacher. Makes the class really fun, and helps you understand all the material really well.

He is an awesome Professor..He is def. veryyyy nice to look at :) He gives u terms and the definition and u just have to match them on the test! so easy,so nice, and did i say hot? yeahh! :)HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Very good prof...things are black and white. Attend class, learn the material, get an A. He gives you exactly what will be on the tests and it's as simple as that. It is all simply term memorization. Well worth it and you actually take something from this class.

He is an amazing teacher, and is very willing to work with the students. If you are one of those people that cannot keep their mind on one subject for too long, and get distracted, he will go on to something else for a few minutes to refresh you mind and get you back on track. This teacher is HIGHLY recomended for your humanities classes!

Best teacher at MCC. Gives you everything for your tests extremely easy. And nevertheless he's extremely knowledgeable! As he calls himself "a nerd" "scholasticaly inclined" or however he gets across that he's a dork, lol. Great professor.

Great teacher, and class is NEVER boring...so, when you go to class, expect to have fun and learn at the same time. He is so funny, and not like teachers who think they are funny and students laugh even though their not funny, you will leave his class cracking up at some of his jokes for weeks, at least i have. This class was very easy, yet I took a lot of info from the class. He is very interesting to listen too. Turns religon stories into modern day adventures! Great class. 2 field trips required. 3rd extra credit.

You don't need to buy any books for the class as he tests only on notes. If you there and take notes, it will be easy---his tests are mainly matching and a few short answers that he tells you ahead of time. There will be field trips and a few papers but they are not graded for grammer just your experiences.He puts long ago happenings in todays term

Very good teacher! I wasn't very excited about this class at first but once it started I really enjoyed it. He is hilarious and very easy going, if you dont want to go to class, you dont have to, just make sure you get the notes from someone because you need the notes for the tests. No textbook is necessary, I definitley reccommend him!

I live right by Center campus, but made the trip to South campus after reading this professors ratings here. Definitely worth the trip! He is an excellent professor that really has a passion for what he teaches. Very funny, so the class is never boring. I would recommend him for any humanities class.

This is the best, coolest, and awesomenessessesest teacher macomb--no not just macomb-- that the world has to offer! haha, take any of his classes and prepare yourself for a world of "moo-haha," Messana points, and the best movie ratings available! This class is like 4 hours of religious stand-up. His teaching style keeps you awake and interested. He takes a very laid back approach to the material but he DOES know it all. You will learn a lot, have a great time, and get an A, all you gotta do is go to class, and Hey, why wouldn't you want to. This professor Rocks!!

This guy is awesome & reminds me of my older brother. He says 'Sweet' a lot. He's very funny, engaging and entertaining. Extremely knowledgeable. If he doesn't know (impossible!) he will find out! He makes a touchy sub. for some truly hysterical. No textbook needed. Just take notes on the terms (provided) and learn them. Tests are straightforward. Would take ANY class he taught. Best "Nerd" I have ever met!

Ive never had a prof like messana! He keeps the lectures very humorous and hes generally nice. If you study the study guides, guarenteed A. Only problem is the research paper he assigns, but he is very lenient on the topic :)

Great teacher, Could have done without the movie overview each class. No books necessary, Took a lot of notes but only really need to write down what he says on the term sheet. Whish I could have taken it during the 16 week course as there was a lot cut from it, didn't get to do any of the field trips was looking forward to that.

I am glad I took this class in 7 wks, I could not have done it in a full 16 wk semester. He is funny, however, what is up with movies? If you need to take a Hum. class, this is the best one to take and with this professor

His class was soooooo interesting to me.No book necessary but be prepared to take notes all class long. He relates some of the info to todays world so it is really hard to forget what he says anyway. Would like to take all his classes he makes the subject very interesting. Tests are clear and you know exactly what to expect!

Everyone who says he's not a good Prof is just angry because the Fishmen and Henry judged you. Messana is an amazing Prof and I've learned so much from him. He says he judges you but I have never once felt stupid in his class. He is always very helpful and willing to work with you!

I may be biased because the material interests me, but I thought Messana did a very good job with the class. He focused a little more on Eastern Religion, which was fine because I knew the least about them. Tests are a piece of cake and quizes are open note. Don't buy book, never use it. Definitely suggest him and this class

Had Messana for religions and I just loved going to this class! He is just hilarious and the class is really easy as long as you go every day and take notes. Greatest person/teacher ever. He is extremely funny and entertaining, and better to look at than most of the old professors. Don't use a book at all. Tests are merely definitions, very easy. easily the greatest teacher i have had throughout my entire time in school (grade school thru now college) makes anything interesting, hilarious, understanding, actually teaches and doesnt make you read everything, extremely helpful and an amazing person to get to know and talk with.

Jason is hands down the best professor Ive ever been taught by He really knows how to make boring subjects fun and relate everything to modern times. I always walk out class laughing! Text book was used for about the first 2 weeks then never used again. Tests were easy, just study review sheet. Easy class, fun teacher!

Though I didn't like that we NEVER used the book,he is so hilarious. If you're a nerd, or into asian culture of ANY sort..this is your guy. Ladies, he's not bad on the eyes either. He's a very fair grader, and he does not give extra credit.

One thing that you should keep in mind is that you do not really need a book for this class. He assigns reading assignments but we always discussed what we read. As long as you write down everything on the board you will be fine for the test. He was really funny and I enjoyed his class a lot. Don't use your phone in his class!

A very patient and helpful instructor he would probably want me to say very excellant but I am to say excellant. I learned a lot from his class and he keep your attention with his exciting stories about the Bible from all cultures. I must say without a doubt he knows his stuff.

He is funny and makes jokes the class flys by. If you need to take this course take it with him. All test questions are on the review sheet. Tests are multiple choice. I am going to take him again in the fall. Great Prof!

Really cool guy, test are easy you justhave to take down eeything he says i class, he does give out study guides which are exactly whats on the test. the only thing was that there is a group project that has a 5-7 page paper that goes along with it. although the project was fairly simple and the essay is as well

This was by far the best teacher that I have ever had. He honestly made me want to attend class everyday. I finished the class with an A. The majority of your grade rests on the 6 tests that he gives and the 2 papers that are required. He also allows for one extra credit paper. He is a great teacher and everyone should take his class!

The class is great, i don't know if Messana is WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPS great, but i enjoyed the class. He holds no religious beliefs, and is equally offensive to all religions. I had to bite my tongue a few times. But the tests are really easy and you don't need the book.

Messana (Messiah) is a funny-guy and treats the material in a relaxed way, so it's enjoyable to learn. Four hours felt like nothing! Tests/exam were super easy if you studied. Attendance/tardies don't exist, but you definitely need to be there... turn your phone off unless you want him to answer it! I highly recommend this class and professor!

It was the only class I never considered skipping. It was the whole package- there was humor and fun combined with education and learning. Not to mention, prof. Messana is clearly a highly intelligent and rather quick-witted individual. And yeah, he's a cutie.

Don't buy the book, you don't use it. If you show up and pay attention, take notes, etc it'll be a breeze. The exams are off what he talks about. He never uses power points or anything so you can only go off what he says which makes it even more important to be there.

His INTL class ended up being far more informative and exciting than I had thought prior to entering the class. Messana-san got lost on the path of life(Kakashi!*Guy-sensei voice*) and the one time i saw him in the class before me, i almost had a panic attack. Make sure you're never absence because all you need for the tests is to listen to this man tell stories, it rocks. I'm sure any class you take will have it's nerds and he WILL geek out. Hot nerd!

His class is mostly lecture, but he has a great sense of humor and keeps things interesting even through dry material. He's not always easy to catch in his office, but when you can find him he's very welcoming and helpful. His initial advice and after the fact feedback on assignments is worthwhile. When asked how you are say do not "I am well".

Makes the class fun. His tests aren't hard at all if you just study, they're matching tests too. He gives a study guide before the tests and lets you know what the short answer questions are going to be. You have to write two papers and take field trips on your own time.

He does require two papers on churches that you have to visit but the experience is a good one. Also offers 50 points worth of extra credit!

Seriously Messana is without a doubt the funniest professorteacher I have ever had. I found myself laughing the whole class along with everybody else. The material may be really bland, but he does an excellent job of connecting it to ideas that we would understand. I definitely would take him again if I could.

This is the only Friday morning class that I've actually enjoyed. You pretty much spend the whole class period laughing, who wouldn't want that? Lectures were very funny and entertaining. The class was easy as long as you show up and look over your notes. No homework, just tests and quizzes. And then 2 self-directed field trips and short response papers. Definitely would recommend this class. You also don't use the books.

what a find! Professor Messana not only gives you religion, he gives you stand up comedy to go along with it. I was amazed on how intelligent he is. He reviews religion in a way students can understand; He is also very clear on what will be on the tests and sticks by his word. I would recommend this class. I drove down to south campus for it!

Professor Messana was excellent!!!!!!! I was going through a very difficult time and he was very understanding. I took him for Introduction to Japan. I didn't know anything about the culture he made it very interesting. I might add he's nice eye candy. Great guy!!!!!A+++++++++++++ rating!!!!

Amazing professor!! Over the semester this became a class I looked forward to on a weekly basis. He makes a 3 hours class fly by. Books aren't necessary for this class, everything is comes directly from his lectures. As others have said, sometimes he gets a bit off topic but that's usually from questions asked by the class and still interesting!

I took Jason's class over a 6 week summer term. I learned so much about the major religions, including my own (Judaism). I left with a respect for all of the major religions. No books are required but you should not skip lectures if you want to do well. He's very interesting, has had amazing experiences. I'll take more of his classes in the future

Just write what he lectures about in class (definitions, names of events and what happened with them, specific details, etc) and study those notes to pass the tests (which are very straightforward). Group project but he mainly grades independently. Very funny teacher and lectures aren't boring. He isn't the most most organized but not a big deal.

Loved this course, loved this teacher and his teaching methods. He's pretty much all lecture, but he speaks in the form of casual conversation, not professional to the point of boredom or convolution. Pay attention and take decent notes and you'll get an A (and probably a laugh or two while you're at it)

He's the best. So far I took two of his classes, I'll definitely take more classes with him when I need more credits. Exams are very easy, review sheet is provided before every exam. Group project was fun, lectures are beneficial and fun to attend. There're 4 exams and 2 extra credit assignments which worth 100 points equal to one exam.

I got kind of lost at times but just made sure to go over notes and ask questions if I was confused. I took this class for eight weeks, so it was pretty intense. There was a lot of reading, and you had to do everything on your own. However, the assignments are easy to do, and the class is heavily based on exams, so ensure you understand the material well. He takes forever to grade and to email you back. Overall, it was a fun class.

HUMN1700(comparative religion 8 week online) he makes the class really easy. did not feel like 8 week because not a lot of work was assigned. really easy to get all the work done, and he's an easy grader when it comes to discussion posts. Tests are easy and not recorded. if you fail, you're just lazy. Overall, amazing prof and def taking again.

This was a great class! I learned a lot about all the different religions in the world. He does provide long video lectures to explain things if you didn't understand that weeks reading. Overall, it's an easy class as long as you're willing to participate and read that weeks chapter.

I took the Comparative Religion class online, and it was super easy. Weekly assignments took about an hour or less. I only emailed him, but he responded quickly and was very understanding. Definitely recommend taking this class if you want something low-stress and manageable!
