Very good prof., quizzes straight from lectures, good helper
fun class, tests straight from lecture, nice guy
good class for early in the morn, he wants this stuff to be easy too
Nice Guy-Quizzes straight from notes-new so looking to change for students
very straight forward, nice guy, lectures are student-oriented, take 300 w/ him!
very easy, just study the notes you take during class
his quizzes and tests are too easy; he knows what he's talking about
Good guy, extremely fair tests. I'm taking him again next semester.
One of the more interesting teachers
easy, calm professor, maybe the least stressful class
nice fellow...makes you want to do well
Funny, nice, easy quizzes, works straight from the notes, i didn't need my book
great guy, great teacher, and somewhat of an interesting class...take it
Tough class, but he's a cool guy and helps you out like a champ
Great Prof takin him again wants you to do well, big paper/midterm/final thats it
Excellent teacher, but doesn't realize it yet. Will be the best at UD in 3 years.
I agree, will clearly be the best teacher in the poli sci dept. once he realizes how good he is. 150 can be boring, but its just basics so it has to be. I`m taking him again next year.
good class..Tough paper..
a really good teacher but tough on work. wants you to do really well in his class and will be there to help make sure you you do. class isn't boring and hes a good guy.
very nice guy, tries to make the class interesting. if you put in the effort its easy to do well, no tricks with him.
I dont know how we taught politics and the media for 15 weeks. Plenty of fluff. Easy class to take, do not read text. Just need to study from your notes. Plus you get to see lots of movies.
Class was like watching paint dry. Most of the class is common sense. Easy paper, debate, and final. Suffer through class and pay attention and you'll do fine.
easy class - watched movies & tv ... easy mid term, paper, debate, & final - i read nothing & got a B+ ... good guy - take him for your capstone if you can.
Very knowledgable about class subject matter. Ties current events into the class, can be very funny at times. Just a very entertaining, interesting teacher. You will learn a lot, but he grades fairly easily on midterm/finals. Papers are graded fairly.
Best class - he's so funny, sarcastic, and really into the material. He showed the greatest films and hosted some really fun class discussions. Papers were graded SO easy - A's all around. Definitely take one of his classes!
boring and not willing to help his students. massive amonts of reading and difficult tests.
good class--he's very dry--do readings that's what tests are on--go to class there are a lot of quizzes
Interesting material, but the class can get boring at times. Go to class, and do all the readings, and you will be fine.
avoid
Definitely a great guy. Always willing to go the extra mile and help if you go see him. If you do the readings and go to class and you don't get an A, you are an idiot. Drop out of college. McDonalds is hiring.
easy class but boring at times.
Class itself is dull-he realizes it and tries to keep it interesting. Fairly easy grader-seemed fair. Would def. take again.
boring and unclear.
really unclear and not a big help. the class itself does suck but he doesnt help it. he expects you to alreayd know too much about analysis
Funny, good guy. I've taken him before, highly reccomended. The material is dry, but you will learn a lot. Tough in depth papers, but he is a great teacher. Might be the best posc prof at UD.
aviod
he is verrrrrrrry hard dangerous avoid him as much as you can he gives you a lot of work you have to write 20 pages research paper quizzes and exams and on top of that assignment due every 2 days DO NOT TAKE HIM. I highly NOT recommend him to you. He wil

aviod unclear unhelpful
awesome class, helpful when asked, tests long but you'll be ok as long as you go to class and read
Good professor - very clear, intelligent, organized, informed. I have learned a lot in his class. There isn't too much discussion. His tests are long, but if you do the readings and go to class, they are impossible. He comes highly recommended.
In the previous comment I meant to say that his tests are NOT impossible.
Regular guy with a good, knowledgeable grasp on just about everything. Really smart. Class is relatively easy, no attendence taken. Three tests and a paper though, so a decent amount of work but he's a pretty easy grader.
good guy, very smart, interesting classes - loooong tests but not too bad, relatively easy grader on papers - definitely take his classes
decent prof, kind of dry and sometimes boring. tests arent extremely difficult but there is a lot of reading involved.3 essay tests and a paper, but not a ridiculous grader..does a real good job of staying moderate, better than most profs at the university,i would reccomend him but u have to do work
A good prof to take since you have to take POSC 300, is helpful and book is good. But it is still boring...
Really interesting class because he integrated current election material and I learned a lot. The tests, however, are really long and he expects pages of details you will never have enough time to write!

Nice Guy, but EXTREEMLY UNCLEAR as a teacher! I took Stat201 at the same time and was thankful,he was very vague especially when teaching stat. Also very unclear about what he wants for assignments and what is going to be on tests. Not very helpful, tests are also very long. Avoid him if possible!
Very boring class but the professor is fair with grading procedures. Tests are all essay and short answer, but he gives a lot of partial credit. Tests are also really hard so make sure you know every detail, especially definitions and articles.

Avoid him he is horrible HIS exams are sooooo hard. he makes you to write a lot on the exams and on the papers. do not take him. NOT RECOMANDED AVOID HIM
This was a very hard class, but if you are going to take it, Mycoff is your best bet. The tests are very difficult and the material is not that interesting. He is a nice guy and it is worth your while to ask a lot of questions because the assignments can be very unclear.

very rude hard class and a lots of work, and papers due. NOT RECOMANDED
Mycoff's a great guy. Sure his tests can be tough, but its college what do you expect? Pay attention and you'll learn a lot, he knows his stuff. I've taken 2 classes with him and i'd take another if i had the time. Pay attention in class (and maybe do a few of the readings) and you'll do fine.
Awesome Professor. Very knowlegeable of information & makes lectures interesting. Tests are tough so go to class & read some of the important articles.
Where do I start. He's not helpful if you need extra explaining and teaches the class as though you already know it. I would not recommend him. Of course if he takes a liking to you then you'll do fine. Exams were ok.
He's a great guy, tests are true false, multi choice, and few short answers. Classes are interesting.
By far the best class I've had yet. Great subjects, always fresh and interesting. One of the most thoughtful professors I've met, and zips through the lectures, banging out a chapter each day. Extremely efficient. I never went to his office hours or spoke to him much, so I can't really grade on helpfulness, but I think he's quite clear in class
Good class, go to lectures and it will help. Takes lots of notes but are important for test. Test are 40 questions 10 t/f, 10 multiple choice, 10 short answer and 10 vocab. Good teacher, knows his stuff. Go to class, understand the chapters and study, youll do fine.
Mycoff is a good professor. He teaches through a slideshow which is good because that's all you have to take notes on. His exams aren't hard-just study-and got to class to get the notes. He gives pop-quizes but they're right from the slideshow. He is very helpful and a very nice guy.
Great guy, really knows what he's talking about, and I thought his lectures were actually pretty interesting. Tests are not hard if you study and you've gone to class. Pop quizzes are practically free points. Definitely recommend.
Great class! He is a wonderful teacher and really knows what he's talking about. If you're not interested in POSC you def. will be when taking this class. He makes it very interesting! Test are not easy but not extremely difficult. If you study you will be fine!
Great guy. Don't miss a lecture, tests are inclusive on lectures & readings & key terms in the readings. Wrote a book, which you'll use in class. Very intelligent & easy going. STUDY for tests at least 2 nights..3 tests, a few pop quizes (open book), an essay
Great teacher and really interested in what he's doing. Class is not very hard but the tests can be extremely hard at times. With the amount of credit you get, it is not hard to get a good grade in his class. Would definitely reccomend if you have any interest in the subject. Does a great job staying moderate about political events as well.
Mycoff's exams were a lot of material to study, but if you studied the key terms & knew them by-heart you could get easy 10 points. He gives pop quizes & as long as you go 2 class & take notes you'll be fine. MUST STUDY MORE THAN THE NIGHT BEFORE FOR BETTER GRADE THAN A C!
Good teacher. Very articulate during his lectures (pay attention they'll be on the tests). Make sure you do the reading as he'll pop some questions in from there too. All in all, he has his act together, teaches the material well, and is a good guy. I'd highly recommend
this class can be tricky, but gives very easy open note pop quizes that can help your grade. his class is usually pretty interesting. no final exam and one paper. i would recommend him.
Great teacher. He made class interesting. The test could be a little hard, but I would definitely recommend him.
Tests were not that difficult. Very knowledgeable on the subject. Reading is imperative to class success. Would recommend taking.
Overall he is a good professor. His tests are average difficulty, and you just need to know your notes and the highlights from each chapter to do well on them.
3 exams, 1 paper (4-5 pages, and easy...not a research paper), 5 or 6 open notebook quizzes to equal 1 exam grade all together, No final
Great for data analysis. The material is boring and i am terrible at math but i got an A. if i can get an A in this class anyone can. extremely helpful as far as helping you understand the material. will go the extra mile. highly recommended.
Pretty straight forward class. He tries to make it a little interesting, but the class is about the basics of our government. 3 exams with 40 questions half was from lectures half from the book so you must read. Lectures are easy to follow, go to class and read and you will do fine.
Dr. Mycoff is a great professor for the internship course. If you are doing an internship and considering getting credit for it, I would definitely recommend POSC 464. Throughout the semester, you keep journal entries of your internship and do a final project in the end. It's an easy A and definitely worth the opportunity!
uninteresting teacher. everything taught in the class i learned in 11th grade history, but the exams were impossible. gives clicker questions to boost grades
I really liked this class. He kept everything interesting and explained things clearly. Exams weren't too bad, easy clicker quizzes boost your grade. One paper too. I would definitely recommend this class.
Mycoff is a good guy. Class is very easy. Read a chapter or two a week, clicker quizes from the book. Lectures are simple, sometimes interresting. Tests are more challenging but nothing you shouldn't be able to handle if you read and go to class. Also one easy paper the entire semester. I recommend.
Mycoff definitely knows his stuff, but classes are pretty boring. Clicker quizzes are super easy and exams require more studying than you think. There are open ended questions on the exam mostly on textbook material so make sure you study lectures and the textbook. Not cool that we had to read entire chapters when we only had to know parts of them
Clicker quizzes are easy, just study the vocab words in the chapter. The exams are hard and always gives extra credit and bumps them up a few points even if you did good. Good guy and explains things good just expects you to know every single detail on the exam. His one sentence questions are graded very roughly. Overall a good teacher.
Nice guy, very knowledgeable. You must go to class (takes attendance) and pay attention if you want a B. Engaging in class projects pass the time and make the material easier.
Would not reccommend. Tests are hard. You read 50+ pages twice a week then never review what you read. He lectures for an hour then tests on specifics fromm mixture of both reading and lectures. Quizzes weekly. Takes attendance.
Cool guy, his lectures are really laid back and interesting. Made the material more fun and understandable. Exams can be difficult but you can boost your grade with the clicker quizzes. Read the chapters when assigned- you will do fine on the quizzes. Overall, good class.
Lectures never really seemed to catch my attention. Textbook readings are a must for clicker quizzes and exams. Exams are far from easy but all lectures are on UD capture. Attendance is usually taken. Wouldn't really recommend this class unless you are politically savvy.
Not too demanding of a class. One paper and three tests. He takes attendance so show up. Overall if you have a decent knowledge and interest in politics/govt you can get an A
Lecture is relaxed, quizzes are straightforward, attendance is taken. Exams are ridiculously HARD. Unless you have an interest in polysci, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Definitely try for someone else. Seriously. I DEFINITELY would not recommend this class, with Mycoff at least.
Surprisingly, I loved this class. I am a CJ major and so this class was required. I am SO glad I took it with Mycoff. Read the textbook and go to class and you should be fine. Three exams, non cumulative and one paper. LOVED!!
If you're bad at math, your doomed. It's a required course if you're a poly sci major, but it shouldn't be. It's heavy statistics, and he assumes you know a good deal about stat before coming in. Makes you feel kind of dumb when you ask questions, and really dives into the material fast. He's passionate about it though which is nice, he cares a lot
This class and professor are ridiculous! He expects you to read over 100 pages for each class and expects way way to much out of you. The simulations are insane and the portfolio is way to intense avoid this class at all costs.
Doesn't expect you to read hundreds of pages per class, but he expects you to read...surprise, we're in college. Not a tough grader at all on essays. Kept most of the class really engaged in the topic and the simulation. Probably the best professor I've ever had.
His class time isn't so bad but as soon as you go to take his tests, you're screwed. His tests are ridiculous. He takes forever to grade anything. He gives late notices for our quizzes and then doesnt post exam study guides until the day before the exam. He wants you to fail.
This professor gives no notice for quizzes, which average for 1/4 of your grade. He give you a study guide for exams, which covers all the material that is NOT on the exam. He is slow to return grades and is of no help to students what so ever.
Very knowledgable in his field. Can be boring and dry at times. Overall his class is very interesting. Tests are HARD! I had to make my class with him pass/fail.
Class is fairly easy except for the true/false questions on his tests. 10 quizzes throughout the semester; easy 100s.. just look over the bold terms. 1 easy essay. The only real issue I had was that some of his lectures made no sense and didn't have any connection to the reading. But go to class; attendance is worth 1 point and they add up.
I actually loved Mycoff as a professor. Being a political science major that may have been why. He knows a lot on the subject and is a really nice guy. As long as you make sure you read the reading before every class youre golden. Go to class too because he takes attendance but those are just easy points. I would totally recommend him!
Came in with a good attitude about this class and Mycoff crushed it. You need to read about 50 pages every class and that sounds easier than it is. His quizzes were easy, but that's only because he made his exams so impossible. Class size is over 200 so he's not really "helpful." The main portion of your grade consists of 3 tests (no final). AVOID
Very interesting class. Anyone interested in congress should take this course. A LOT of work however and reading so be prepared.
I was really happy with Mycoff. The class consists of 6 clicker quizzes and he only grades the top 4 grades, one paper which he offers extra credit for and grades very easily. The only challenging part of the class is the test but they are very doable if you actually study..know all the vocab on the exam and you'll be fine. Take his class!
Professor Mycoff is a very fair teacher. His exams are as difficult as you make them depending on how much you study. He does give a lot of reading in the textbook for each class. There is one paper that was generally easy and he was an easy grader. Definitely recommend if interested in Poli Sci or if you want an easy B or A.
Mycoff has a sarcastic sense of humor. Its pretty funny unless you ask stupid questions, because then hell give you sarcastic answers. His lectures are really helpful and you definitely have to read to text book because the quizzes are all vocal from the text. The tests are okay if you review or pay attention in class.
Big fan of Dr. Mycoff, guy was on Daily Show with Jon Stewart but so humble he wont even discuss it unless you bring it up. Dedicated to his work, will enjoy if you like politics or want to be a lawyer or lobbyist. However, you need to read the chapters inside and out and look for tiny details for test/quiz questions. Also, work hard on the essay.
Professor Mycoff was a great professor overall. The class consists of 3 major tests, 3 papers averaged to one grade and 6 clicker quizzes (but only your highest 4 are graded). He's a pretty fair teacher and if you study and understand the material you'l be more than ok. Best part was no final.
Prof. Mycoff made things very straght forward and easy to follow. There were three exams with no cumulative final. If you do the study guide and the vocab they are easy and require no reading. Study vocab night before for quizes and come in to class for attendence points. If you study vocab its an enjoyable easy A. I got an A.
easy breadth class...attend the class and you'll be fine. clicker quizzes from the definitions in the book so you do need to buy it. i didn't really read the chapters though. nice guy. lectures weren't really boring either.
Had Dr. Mycoff for both POSC150 and POSC300. For 150, his work is a bit tedious but if you attend class regularly you will receive a good grade. POSC300 research methods highly recommend taking it with him. He made the class a lot easier than it could have been.
He's an amazing professor. I thoroughly enjoyed taking his class and I hope I have an opportunity to take another one of his classes. He's very clear cut. The only thing I didn't like was that TAs graded everything. However, if I brought anything they had said on my papers up to him that I didn't think matched up, he ultimately gave me points.
Mycoff made both classes very easy. I would definitely take him again. He is well-versed in the material which makes it in turn, easy to understand. In 150, it's basic material, with clicker quizzes that should boost your grade, with only 3 simple tests. In 300, we took 2 exams which were both simple as long as you have a general understanding.
Mycoff was a great professor and made boring material as interesting as it could be. The class was pretty easy, you have to take three tests, clicker quizzes, and write one paper. The class is all lecture and the clicker quizzes are mostly based on vocab from the assigned readings. I heard that he gives extra credit if you go to his office hours!
This class was my all-time favorite. Interest in Congress helps a lot. Second half of the semester is a House of Representatives simulation, participation is REQUIRED (lots of out of class activity). Half of your grade is a legislative portfolio. If you put in effort, you will get an A. Only 2 exams, super easy grader. Wish I could take again!!!
Having taken PSYC209 prior, this class was a piece of cake. Moderate amount of homeworkin-class assignments, 10-paged research paper. Workbook is necessary, didn't pick up the textbook at all this semester. Two exams, super easy grader. There is some simple math involved. If you're into research and statistics, this class will be a breeze for you.
Had him during Trump/Clinton election. Managed to stay as impartial as possible and give a holistic view of what was happening. Must know every aspect of what's on the study guides that he gives out before every test. MC and T/F can be very tricky on exams. Quizzes and papers are relatively easy
Great guy. Class is pretty straight forward and he's definitely willing to help when needed. Offers a few extra credit opportunities that are easy to do and helpful. Definitely would recommend.
Great teacher, makes class very interesting. Need to come to class and need to take notes at home and in class. 6 clicker quizzes, drops 2. There are 3 tests, easy if you study. Also one paper. You still extra credit on almost every assignment if you are willing to put effort towards it. Would highly recommend taking one of his classes.
You have to do the reading to pass, but as long as you do the work and try it's not bad. Go to class (he gives pop quizzes on the readings, so always do the reading), take notes on the readings and his lectures, and you'll be fine. The chapters are long and kind annoying, but he goes over the info in class too to reinforce it.
Professor Mycoff was a great professor. Lots of reading of a very dense textbook, but the reading is important for the quizzes. Pretty typical class, the worst part is the reading but just do it & get it over with when it's assigned because you will need it for the tests & quizzes later. Great lectures.
This class is so much fun and an easy A if you put in work. There are only 2 exams and you don't have to read for them. Just memorize what is talked about in class. The class is a Congress simulation so you learn a lot. The main grade is just a portfolio of everything you did. Take this class!
Congress was a ton of fun. The exams are really really easy, which is good because the simulation is most of your grade. The simulation is a lot of fun if more people participate. It is a huge group project, but at the same time, really fun. You write laws and simulate congress. The portfolio compilation is best if not left for the day before.
If you have to take this class for your major, take it with Prof. Mycoff. The lectures are posted on UD Capture and he gives you study guides for the exams. However you don't want to miss class, because you never know when he's going to have a quiz or take attendance. Although he announced our quiz dates a few days before the quiz. 3 exams&1paper.
Professor Mycoff is great at what he does. I really enjoyed that he used lecture to relate content back to real world scenario. Although it is a large lecture hall, he managed to keep me engaged. There are 3 exams (no final) and 1 position paper. Position paper is not difficult and exams are straight forward. I'd recommend this class!
Not hard at all. Just go to class and do the readings. Mycoff gives study guides with potential test questions, so def study from those as well as memorize the bolded words in the textbook. There are quizzes and participation points, so don't skip class too often (you get some freebies). There's one essay, but it's not graded too hard.
Mycoff is a great guy. LOVED THIS CLASS
Professor Mycoff was amazing. He clearly outlines what will be on test and gives you a list of possible short answers for every exam. His quizzes are super easy, they're either vocab based or easy simulations. It's important to read the book for quizzes and exams, though. He's also a super caring guy and will work with you if you reach out to him!
Perhaps my favorite professor thus far at UD. He is tough but an outstanding teacher and will help you as long as you put forth some measure of effort. I believe he is the head of the Political Science department and is extremely knowledgeable in his field of study. You have to earn your grade but he sets you up for success. Great professor
I took 300 over winter session to minimize the pain and if you are scared about the class I would recommend the same. Mycoff is easy to understand and is very helpful. His exams aren't hard if you do the work and go to class. Made this class A LOT easier than what it is during a regular semester. Very nice and easy grader. TAKE HIM FOR 300!
Mycoff was very confusing in his expectations for the course and legislative days. It takes awhile to learn what he wants.
So hes kind of confusing in what exactly it is you need to do, but if you ask he'll clarify. 50% of your grade is the simulation and of that 50% a lot of it is your portfolio assignment. A lot of us didnt realize that he literally had everything that we needed to do written out until 2 weeks before the semester and it would've helped our/work grade
I loved this class, especially the Congress simulation! It is a lot of work and a student needs to work throughout semester (not just in the last few weeks). It can be confusing, but Dr. Mycoff will clarify if you ask! My advice is to get as involved in the simulation as possible. Dr. Mycoff is a great professor and I recommend taking his class!
Great Professor! There are a few quizzes , a couple exams, and a major paper. Just show up, click in, and study. Exams are somewhat hard but again, just study.
If you go to the lectures or watch them on udcapture you will be fine. Mycoff was a good professor who was able to explain everything that he was saying in a simple and understanding way. Has discussions every week that are helpful for explaining the lectures that week. Overall was a pretty easy class you just have to put the work in.
Mycoff is a good professor that explains things concisely. The weekly discussion groups are very helpful in breaking down the lectures into more digestible information. The tests can be difficult, but the study guides help. Mycoff can be dry, but is overall a decent professor, and is helpful outside of the classroom as well.
POSC300 is not an easy class, it's kind of the Black Sheep of PoliSci classes at UD. Dr. Mycoff is definitely the guy you want to take this class with. He understands we're not Stat majors. Very patient with explaining the simplest of things. Exams are hard, but put the effort in and you'll pass the class. Mycoff rocks.
Mycoff's a good guy and always knows what he's talking about. Some ppl dislike his class b/c he can be dry and the lectures feel long. He's a fair grader and gives you easy clicker quizzes that boost your grade. My advice is definitely read from the textbook and study guide for exams. He is always there to help you. It's not that hard to get an A
Amazing professor. My favorite professor at UD, 10/10 would take his class again.
Professor Mycoff is an amazing professor. The course material he taught was well explained and easy to understand. There were 15 quizzes, 3 exams and a final. The exams were essay based and very easy to complete. The quizzes were easy as long as you read the chapters. There were in-class assignments that were homework if not finished. Easy A.
Prof Mycoff clearly knew what he was doing and was nice to the students. He definitely wanted to hear what we had to say. The lectures could be a little dry sometimes. If you do your weekly quizzes and can write a decent paper, you'll be just fine.
This class sucks, but Professor Mycoff helps you through it. He posted the lectures online so you didn't have to attend, but would do breakout rooms every day to work on the assignments in the book. He's really patient with all your questions, and will explain the same thing 5 times if he has to. Put time and effort and you'll get an A.
Mycoff is a good professor and knows what he's talking about, can be very monotone and dry but he does crack the occasional joke. Theres a quiz on 1 or 2 chapters in the textbook every week and there are 3 exams (1000 word papers). Also a research paper but you do it in stages so its not hard.
He is the bestttt. Extremely clear, informative and kind to his students. I was able to joke around with him very comfortably and he was always extremely honest about his expectations. LOVE HIM
This class wasn't awful, but definitely tougher than I expected. This class requires good time management, with lots of dense textbook chapters. Professor Mycoff is accessible via email and will meet with you after class or during another time if you have questions, but typically you will have to reach out to the TA first.
Even though hes very monotoned, I loved his way of teaching and his one quizzes during the week.
Good professor, dont recommend the class if you arent in PoliSci. He is super open to questions and happy to reexplain things. He made the math part easier then I thought. A lot of homework which is nice because its mostly graded on trying. Textbook is helpful but he says before exams to study what we learned in class. Engaging and nice teacher.
The class is tough once the math is incorporated because it moves really fast and math has never been my thing. But overall, Mycoff was a great professor and made the class better. Its a required course and isn't the most exciting but with Mycoff, you will get through it and he will help you.
Dr. Mycoff is absolutely amazing. His class is so straightforward, and he makes the material easy to understand. He is also just a really nice guy! I recommend.
Best professor at ud
PLEASE READ. I got almost perfect scores on my first two exams, had 100% average for quizzes, and he graded my two final papers as D+'s, COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE, and took four months to consider regrading my papers after I profusely emailed. My final grade never reflected my work. Took an ENTRY LEVEL class as a BREADTH requirement.. NEVER take him
Mycoff is ok, but he's very clear and you know what's expected. The quizzes are easy points and most of the time you only need to skim the chapters to get the answers. He can be a bit boring but he makes things easy to understand. Also gives a lot of time for assignments.
The class is generally huge and boring. You can miss as much class as you want. The class is mostly based on 4 essays. There are discussion sessions, but they are boring and there are no discussions. Too many topics and little concentration in the lessons learned.
Professor Mycoff is really invested in his class; always prepared; his directions are very clear; his feedback is good; and he always makes the subject easy and accessible for students, regardless of how familiar they are with the subject. The textbook is long and expensive though, just a heads up :)
Took him over winter for Research Methods. If you're scared of taking this class like I was because of the math, the winter session is the way to go. Mycoff will be sure to get you through the class and understands that there's a reason why you're a poli sci major. Just showing up every day will go a long way to getting a solid grade in the class.
If you do not like politics or are not particularly versed in politics do not take him. I was required to take this class for my major otherwise I would've dropped. His exams are essays and he is a tough grader, got a 54 on the first one, and all he did was insult me, I was not given constructive criticism. He clearly does not respect most students
I wasn't very interested in Politics before this class (I had to take it for my major.) However, now I am very interested. Professor Mycoff has great lectures and I've learned a lot I can learn. There are 3 exams in the form of essays, but they are relatively easy. He can be a tough grader though. Be prepared to read and take a lot of notes.
I was very impressed by Mycoff and enjoyed listening to his lectures. They often included entertaining elements like group work and games. His essay grading may be a bit harsh, but he is an excellent educator and truly inspired me to continue with my major and improve my writing ability.
One of the nicest professors I've had. As long as you show up and take decent notes, you'll do well. The papers are a little tedious, but overall I enjoyed the class.
Professor Mycoff is a clear, organized professor who has realistic expectations for his students. Pros: Attendance isn't mandatory, quizzes are online and easy, and there aren't a lot of big assignments. Cons: A lot of classwork that is graded, essays can take awhile, lectures are hit or miss. You definitely need to read the textbook.
love this dude but he did NOT round my 89.91 to an A-, understood it said in his syllabus that he does not round but like come on man. overall great class great prof though
Professor Mycoff conveyed information very effectively with his slides, especially for an intro-level class. Despite only attending about half of the actual lectures, the recordings were always available on canvas and I never felt behind at all. Mycoff is a great professor who is also very understanding.
I really enjoyed this class. Didn't take attendance. Posted an outline of the notes before class which made notetaking much better, since he relies on lecture. Weekly online quizzes easy 100s worth 10%. In-class assignments, super easy, worth 20%. Paper exams, a bit challenging, worth 50%. One major paper, worth 20%. I would retake.
Professor Mycoff is my favorite professor I've had thus far. I've taken him for both 300 & 150. Super knowledgable guy, and really wants to see you succeed. As long as you go to class and study your notes from lecture, you'll do great. Highly recommend his Winter session 300 class.
Had a textbook but didn't necessarily need to read it to get a good grade in the class just attended the lectures and discussions and its pretty straight forward. TAs do most of the grading so talk to them about assignments that you're confused on. Exams were all written and take home.
Professor Mycoff's class is engaging and manageable. Recorded lectures, easy quizzes, and reasonable assignments make it doable even if you miss some classes. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for staying on top of the material.
Professor Mycoff seems like a nice man, however, he lacks understanding of when a student has a difficult situation. During the semester I had to take an absence and he was very difficult to talk with in regard to rescheduling even though I had university approval. His exams are okay in difficulty and he assigns lots of readings/quizzes per week.
I took the POSC 300 Honors section, and it pushed me. I recommend taking it when you have time, definitely not with 6 other classes; I could have learned a lot more. I learned to code in R, analyze data decently, and write a research paper. It's not easy, but it takes effort. Show up, ask questions, and keep asking. He's patient.
Professor Mycoff is nice, but very dull. He only discusses what is on his slides and never offers any opportunities for engagement during actual class time or asks if anyone has any questions. The TAs for the class also don't seem to know what they are doing, but grade extremely harshly on exams and papers. Try to find another professor for POSC150
DO NOT take posc150 with him. I don't think he understands what a 100 level course is. Even my 300 level courses do not require as much work as he assigned. Tests are hard and the paper he assigns is confusing. The TA's discussions are not helpful either.
His lectures aren't very interactive and he just reads off of slides, the Discussions are basiclly useless in helping you turly understand the class, its just a meh class with a huge workload, and the exams are DIFFICULT like very confusing
Prof. Mycoff is a nice guy to talk to outside of class. However, his TA's and him clearly do not go over what to teach in our discussion classes because they are clueless. The material is not that hard and the work seriously does not take that long, but the 3 exams are awful. Make sure you study extra for them. They are also 50% of your grade.
explains things well in class, unfortunately exams are nothing like the study guides/prep he gives, and you won't feel prepared for a lot of the questions despite studying extensively. discussion sections are pointless, and every class has an assignment. they're usually easy, but can be annoying at times. project is very easy and straightforward.
Explains things well in lectures, however be prepared to read. The 3 tests did not reflect the study guide and we're rlly hard. Classwork, homework and quizzes are easy and online. Was disappointed as we were made to believe the last test was online, then were told it was in person four days prior.Discussion section was often not abt class material
