Jason Nielsen was not a pleasure to have as a professor. I enjoy reading through other comments due to individuals disliking his course for the same reasons. He does not give assignments back for review, poor communication over email, and poor flow to the class. I would not recommend his course or him as a professor.

Yeah he's a tough professor, but it pays off. You WILL learn accounting and work for the grade you get. His structure of how he teaches the material is very clear, effective, and informative. Due dates are consistent and assignments flow with d2l. If you actually take your major serious then show up. Otherwise switch to Communications.

I had Professor Nielsen for Income Tax Accounting, it was online and during the summer. It was the hardest A that I've ever received, I spent Memorial Day and July 4 inside focusing on homework. I hated him and every minute of it until I was finished, but I learned a lot. Oddly enough, I respect him more and more as I realize how much I learned.

Prof. Nielsen knows his subject, but isn't good at explaining things more clearly if students have trouble. The few times I asked for help he gave me such vague answers that I still had no idea what he was talking about. He is a tough grader- this class is not an easy A whatsoever! Lots of hw too.

If you care about your grades and cannot dedicate at least 10-12 hours a week to this class, do not take this professor. Every week there are multiple assignments and a quiz. You only get 13 min for 10 questions which isn't enough. No doubt he knows his stuff but his feedback is of very little help. If you take him, be prepared for a challenge.

I highly recommend finding another accounting professor. To be honest, I'm not sure how he became certified to teach a college level course. This professor is the worst professor I have ever had in my 4 completed semesters of college. The material he "teaches" is in no way similar to the tests. He gives you the answers and doesn't explain them.

He kind of grades unfairly and takes points of for insane things. I would rather go to a different campus instead of every having him as a prof again. he also gives us crazy amounts of homework, all of which are graded hard.

He makes you work for your grade, but he also sets you up to succeed. You can submit corrections for all of your homework. He responds quickly to questions via email & on the forums. He makes his own lectures (not just the book publisher's). When I asked about supplemental reading for my next class he gave me the an old textbook.

I enjoyed his class so much that I'll be taking him for the rest of my accounting credits. He adapted the text from another publisher and provides it for free. He lets you resubmit the homework for full credit after he goes over it. I've never had a teacher reply so fast to my emails and discussion posts. I've genuinely learned so much useful info.

I would love to know how everyone else did on the final. I had a 98% up until I took that final that I FAILED! If I would have had an entire day, I may have been able to pass that test. The final dropped my grade to 85%

I've taken 2 of this prof. classes, Acct 151 (Grade B) and Acct 160 (Grade A) and I have really loved his teaching style! He gives visual and informative examples of the exact type of problems that will be on the homework. When you submit your homework, you can watch a video on the correct way to do the problem and correct your work for full credit

He explained things clearly and used a free online textbook. Weekly homework that he goes over in class and gives you a chance to re-submit corrected homework for credit. A few small writing assignments and one large group essay. Only complaint- the final was more difficult and harder than what was practiced in class the class. 7week zoom/virtual

It gives no feedback on graded assignments, and feedback given is useless because it's a word or two, not really feedback as to what you did wrong. He hardly answers your questions in any way that would help you and refers to the PowerPoint he uses to teach the entire class unless you are an accounting prodigy I would not recommend.

While most of his course is fine, the difficulty absolutely spikes towards the end. I had a 94% in the course up until the final week when I suddenly dropped to a 78%. I don't believe he read over the material for our final project as the questions asked for information that was not present on the financial statements.

Do not enroll in Prof. Nielsen's class. Experience was awful and he barely taught. The 'feedback' he gave consisted of a few sentences and was utterly useless; effectively he is stealing a paycheck. There are much better accounting teachers at Hacc who care about students. Look at his other reviews if you want a 2nd opinion.

Almost no feedback at all. What little there is will be a sentence or two max on a good day with short, unhelpful, rude and unprofessional language. Teaches through YouTube and PowerPoint. There is no textbook for Intermediate Accounting I!? Had him for Tax Accounting and thought he was like 3/5, but 0/5 for IA1. If you have a choice, avoid him.

Most of his instruction is in 1hr+ recordings from his other classes, you can tell he doesnt like asynchronous. Hes also pretty disorganized and informal, so he's nice but his feedback is low quality or non-existant. Class was pretty confusing, especially the group project. No rubric! He only gives the bare minimum amount of info for assignments.

Professor Nielsen's ACCT151 class can be hit-or-miss. While he explains concepts clearly and uses a free textbook, feedback is limited. However, unstuckstudy and practice assignments help students succeed. Overall, a challenging but manageable course.

I took ACC II virtually, I really hated how his class was structed. There are weekly modules that require a ton of reading, watching lengthy videos & HW problems that were absurdly long. There were no written quizzes or tests, just assignments. Due dates were not consistent. When he offered feedback, it was not the most detailed or helpful.

This was an incredibly difficult class. I killed myself keeping up with weekly very involved discussions and responses, very difficult and lengthy homework sets, and several weeks with multiple high stakes items due. Despite this, Professor Nielsen is very kind and helpful outside of class and provides lots of resources to understand the material.

Horrible teaching style. HACC doesn't have other teachers in acct field. It's frustrating teacher makes learning feel difficult than it needs to be, since he is the only option available. It's sad to feel that the professor isn't invested in student success. This creates huge barrier to learning, & makes it feel you're navigating course alone.
