Very good teacher who tries to makes class interesting. There is extra credit pop quizzes if you come to class. There is no attendance policy. There are four test and if you don't like taking test he gives you the option of writing a paper.
Had him for 2 classes. Great teacher. Fun, interesting & humorous. Easy A. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Gives you options on how you want to take you exams (by essay or muliple choice).
Makes course very interesting and keeps lectures exciting. Offers paper option in lieu of exams. Very reasonable and willing to accomodate students as necessary. Attendance not required as all test material comes from text and lecture (notes for which are posted on Blackboard). Take him if you can!
Great teacher and very understanding.
my most interesting class all semester. went to class and barely needed to study, good lecture, fair tests. very interesting instructor.
Lets you take the in-class tests or do papers. I suggest the papers since all the material is provided, you just put it into APA essay form.
Fun class. Parker believes in "interactive learning" so there's lots of opportunity to ask questions, work in groups, take extra-credit pop quizzes, etc. Easy but interesting material, and Parker has a great neuropsych background and his own stories to share which makes things relatable. Recommended.
What an awesome teacher. People can easily relate to him. I like how he asks questions to get us interacted. He is very down to earth and just a cool teacher. ENROLL NOW!

Best teacher I have ever had! Psy 317 is an extremely difficult class and I got an A in here. Makes class fun and makes info seem easy to understand and apply in everyday life
Definatly the most interesting professor. He's really good at incorporating psych into everyday life. Always uses examples and even though this is my morning class..i dont have a problem waking up for this because it's always alot of fun.

Mr. Parker is a great professor! You will have to come to class, but if you take good notes and study it is not hard to get an A. He is really interesting and will keep you awake. I really learned a lot...take his classes if you can!
As long as you come to class and listen to the lectures you will be fine. The tests are mostly based on his lectures and not the book.
Took his Monday PM class; excellent professor! He's a practicing clinician, professor, and a student simultaneously, so he not only relates the material via personal clinical experience, he also empathizes with students! I only wish two things: One, class lasted longer, and Two, that it was more challenging!
I usually hate morning classes, but this one was worth getting up for. Most everything was posted, I actually ate brekfest most mornings in class and just listened to his stories. Very funny, good class.
Very kewl teacher. Actually will talk with you like a real person. Tests are mostly from notes and he posts everything. Answers e-mails. Offers lots of extra credit.
Attendance is not mandatory. I missed most of the classes and still made an A in both. Tests are mainly from the notes. Keep up with journals and do the extra credit (added 2 final grade). Very interesting teacher who tries to make the class fun.
Easy class, don't worry about buying the book (everything comes from his lecture notes). A cutie, too ;)
Prof. Parker is one of those rare professors who honestly cares about his students more than himself. He is bright, easy to understand, and extremely caring. There is no reason why anyone couldn't do well in his class. It is easy to follow if you pay attention, and he is very willing to help you understand it.
I highly recommend this teacher! He makes everything interesting and explains anything that is unclear. My only problem was that he writes his own tests questions and they were often confusing but not too hard to do well on, esp if you attended all of the lectures.
Great Professor! The material for class was difficult but he did a great job at explaining and was always there to help outside of class. Took him over the summer at the higher ed ctr in Va Bch-definitely worth the drive. I agree with the other person-he is definitely a cutie!!
I LOVED HIM!! Took him for motivation & physio. I learned so much and he is a WONDERFUL professor. Makes class fun. He tells you what you need to know for the test and other helpful info just bc. He loves his to teach. I would take him for all of my classes!!! NOW GO AND REGISTER BEFORE THEY FILL UP BECAUSE THEY WILL!!!!
I had Professor Parker Spring 06 and he was the best I ever had. He was able to utilize different teaching methods so that all students were able to understand him. He is not an easy Professor but he isnt a hard Professor. He is very clear cut of his expectations for his class and assignments. I would recommend him to everyone. He the best ODU has
Good professor, very knowledgeable and helpful. A bit disorganized...
Very entertaining and easy to learn from
Take as many of his classes as you can. He is the best Professor I have ever had!
I took Professor Parker for 3 classes. I am taking another next semester with him. He is awesome! Very helpful. Knows what he is talking about. His classes fill up fast so sign up quickly.
He is a great teacher. He is super normal, and treats his students as equals. I respect him a lot, and will take what ever psyc classes he offers.
Great guy! Physiological Psychology was entertaining with him. It was fascinating to hear about his personal experiences with brain damage when we got to that section of the text. The man is extremely intelligent, and is able to lecture in such a way that he can hold everyone's attention and still throw in some humor and trivia while on task.
Use notes to study for tests and do not over-analyze tests!
Interesting and cute teacher! Only tests given, for which you need study notes only. Extra cred opportunities. Don't over analyze tests!
An extremely intelligent and down-to-earth man. You will learn something new everyday in this class. Exams are not hard, but the amount of information presented can be challenging. You have the options take all three exams, write three papers, mix and match, or write a paper to boost a low exam grade. Tons of opportunity for extra credit.
awesome professor. def take him.
AMAZING CLASS!AWESOME PROFESSOR!! I learned the craziest, coolest things from lectures. Absolutely fascinating. And he is hilarious. Class flies by. PLENTY of extra credit opportunities and exams aren't hard if you show up to lectures and study. This was best course I took ALL undergrad! TAKE HIM!!! You'll be glad you did!
I've taken him for a total of five or six of his classes now. He's an amazing teacher. I learn something new EVERY day in his class. Attendance isnt mandatory, but consider you will be missing out. Show up, study notes, never bought a book once. I got A's in every class, even 318 :] He gives 5 FINAL extra credit points too! HE'S AWESOME!!!
Very clear and helpful! The class was a bit hard, but I received an A and it was the most interesting Psyc class I have taken yet! Just make sure to read everything and take notes in class (he puts a lot of his own insights on the test), and do the extra credit too, of course. It's an easy A :)
Is a phenomenal professor. Is a nice guy. Very interesting. Funny. I recommend studying and keeping up with reading as this class is a little difficult. However, you will definitely walk away having learned a lot. A truly great professor. One of the best.
Parker is a great person and a great teacher - however he sort of dropped the ball with this class. Hopefully he will improve on this course in the future, because he is excellent in his other courses.
great professor, if you show up to class and study the notes you will do fine. Watch out for the T/F they are tricky. One of the best professors I have ever had
This is one, enthusiastic Professor. His passion for this subject is contageous. Whoever knew the brain could be so fascinating? You get out of it what you put into it. I almost dropped this course when I realized the depth, but ended up with an A and a richer understanding of psychology. Wish there were more courses like this.
great teacher, makes even the boring material interesting. Usually tests from notes, watch out for the T/F questions they are really hard
He was ALWAYS late! He was unclear on ALL of his assignments. He did not care about the class, but more so whether he'd make a concert or talking to car salesmen during class times. He expected a lot from students, but gave very little. He was unprofessional and so was his TA Katie. She was rude to everyone. Stay away, especially during summer!
This was a summer class. He came in late EVERY time. His syllabus was for the fall. His notes for the wrong edition book. Wasted 3 weeks (out of 7) and than crammed it in at the end. Not at all sure why he rated so high. Seems to me he phoned the class in. Can I have my money back? You didnt earn it! PHD goes to the head! Car salesman w/true
I would never take a class w/parker again, especially if the TA was Katie. Nothing about this class was organized.
It was a summer session. He usually is one of the best in the department but this was the worst class I have ever taken. The TA was pointless & rude and email replys were vague & useless. He didnt want to be there, he & the TA gave conflicting info. He wouldnt tell you what was coming up until the week before it was due Dont take this class w/ him!
Great Class, Student-Friendly Professor, Relevant as well as Interesting Material, Class was Fast- Paced, but it was a Summer Session. Extremely Supportive to Serious Students, and Fair to all of his Students! One of the best professors in Psychology Department. I would take him again and am glad he teaches at ODU!
This was a fun class. Very interesting topic. Professor Parker is very good at making the class relevant. He is funny and cares about how students perform.
If you can write a paper this class is easy. I don't know what all the hype was about. Alot of students wined over having to actually do work, but assignments were simple and clear. Professor Parker is very helpful and make a boring topic bearable. TA was a bit confusing, her info often did not match. Good Professor.
This class was exactly what I expected. I have taken several of Dr. Parker's classes and I usually write papers for him so I have had that APA stuff for a couple of semesters. The time crunch was crazy, but papers are pretty easy. I think the TA knew more about the new APA changes though. I liked that I got to pick my own topics. T/F are tricky.
Dr. Parker is amazing! He is funny and goes the extra mile to help you make the grade. He offers 5 points on the letter grade as extra credit, awesome! Best Professor at ODU.
Physio is the bomb!
Professor Parker was a great instructor! He had lots of extra credit opportunities and always wrote his tests off of his notes. We hardly used the book, so I would wait until the first class to see if he feels you need it. If I could, I would take all the classes he taught! YOu can also choose to write a paper instead of testing..nice!
One of the best professors I have had in PSY program! He is very helpful and so great at teaching something that I personally did not have very much interest in. Definitely recommend his courses!!
Fascinating Class With Charming Professor. He Brings content to life by anchoring material to his own stories. He cares about his students and supports them along the way.Take his classes, you'll see - if you study, it's an Easy A. He is a prize at ODU.
Mr. Parker is by far the greatest man at ODU. He is so patient, so kind and so helpful. Mr. Parker is extremely intelligent and shares his experiences with his students to make his classes interesting and worthwhile. He truly cares about ALL his students and his passionate about their lives in and out of school.
Anyone who takes Dr. Parker's class always say he's one of the friendliest, down to earth instructors, if a little disorganized! Glad to have taken another class of his; Always a pleasure.
This was the class that I feared the most. I have taken 317 with prof. Padilla and dropped it, he made this class impossible with all the lab work, quizzes and modules. Doctor Parker made me really understand stats and even like it. He is the most down to earth, nicest, funniest professor ever. Come to all lectures and you will get at least a B
Jason Parker was my absolute favorite professor of all time. His lectures are always interesting and he relates the material his personal experience in the field.
Dr Parker is awesome. 317&318 are not easy classes. I've had him for both and was successful. He cares about his students. The material is hard but you won't find a professor that can teach it as well as he does!
Interesting class. 3 exams, with option to do papers instead. Random amt of quizzes, which are all extra credit. He knows his stuff.
abnormal psych. dr. parker is the best teacher i think i have ever had. he makes the material so fun & easy. he gives you all the notes on blackboard so you don't have to worry about a thing. he knows what he is talking about!!!!! funny as hell. gonna take him for more classes at ODU. take him!!!
Pay attention, take notes, and get involved in the class and you'll be fine.
Dr. Parker is one of the best professors I've had. I have taken almost all of his classes and have received A's. His classes are discussion driven and he makes them interesting. Test are hard but if you study his notes and pay attention you will gain a lot from his courses.
I loved taking Pysio Psych with him, he helped me understand how the brain works and NO ONE explains things quite like he does. I kept his notes from the class and it helps me understand the brain. He's great and I would take more classes with this guy. He makes sure you understand everything. I love this guy as an instructor.
Dr. Parker does not read directly from the book, instead pulls real life situations from his experiences both professional and personal. Students are able to grasp an understanding of what the material is and how they can apply it to their life. He knows what he talking about and treats his students as adults. You will get the grade you deserve.
Class gives an insight into how we learn and how to learn better. Dr. Parker teaches many classes and he clearly enjoys what he does and actually cares about his students succeeding. If you care about you grade, so will he. He gives extra credit opportunities in all his classes as well as opting to write papers to help boost your grade!
Class is intense but well taught. Dr. Parker has been a sex educator for over 25 years and he knows what he is talking about. Realizing this class can be rough for some students he is always there to talk and continues to care for his students. He is a great teacher and counselor. If you pay attention, take notes and study them, you'll do great!
Dr. Parker is magnificent! He brings so much pizazz, joy, and good humor to the classroom. His discussions are very interesting and are easy to follow. In addition, he gives plenty of extra credit opportunities throughout the course. There is nothing like having a professor who truly cares about their students!
Really nice!
Prof Parker's lectures are awesome! He keeps you entertained with stories of his real world experiences. You don't need the book as the tests and quizzes come from his notes. Notes are very extensive, but broken down to make sense. If you study the notes during the lecture and do the extra credit, easy A!
Dr. Parker is GREAT! Attendence not required but he makes you want to come to his class and he gives quizzes (extra credit) to boost grades. Does not require book. Test come from lecture notes. You can choose to type a paper instead of take a test. Im taking all the rest of my psyc classes with Dr. Parker. Highly recommend.
He is understanding and a very good teacher. I would take him again for other psychology classes he teaches. You will need green scantrons for his class for his exams. He's nice and an awesome teacher to have.
It's never a dull moment in a class with Dr. Parker! I've had him a couple of times and the information is always easy to understand, the exams are mainly based on his notes which he provides online. Work hard, show him you work hard, and you'll be just fine! :)
I absolutely LOVE Mr. Parker. The guy loves his beagles and his stories but I never mind any of his little lesson tangents. I wish I could carry him around in my pocket. Dude is genius.
Absolutely loved both his classes. I took two classes of his this semester (psych. sex & ex. child). He is a great professor and adds personal stories and makes class interesting. He is very smart and knows a lot and shares a lot with the class. His quizzes are the best, they can't hurt you, only help you! I highly recommend him, plus he is funny
Dr. Parker was reworking the course as we went along to further differentiate Animal Behavior from his Learning course, as there is a decent amount of shared material. I would say that he did a good job considering that he was reworking the course as we went along. The tests were aligned well with the lecture material & no there were no surprises.
I took him for the fall semester and I absolutely loved the class. He welcomes students to bring guests and he's very open for student participation. He's really clear on how he grades and gives multiple extra credit opportunities. I never skipped class because I loved learning all of the material. He doesn't take attendance. Great class. Loved him
Professor Parker is one of the best professors at ODU. I loved his class and would take him again without a doubt. I actually considered getting a minor in psychology because I loved his class so much. This professor definitely deserves all of the positive comments on here. Many of the students in his class are taking him second or third time.
This is my second class with Dr. Parker. He is so entertaining and I am taking him for a 3rd time next semester. There are 3 tests. I did not buy a book. Study power points and come to class and you will pass. Quizzes only adds extra credit to test. You cannot fail them. There is also opportunities for other extra credit points. Got a high B.
I absolutely loved Dr. Parker's Animal Behavior class! There is a total of 3 tests, one being the final, and extra credit quizzes that can only help your grade. He's a little disorganized sometimes, but since he was reworking the class, it was understandable. He also gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. I would definitely recommend him!
Dr. Parker is fantastic. He's both extremely knowledgeable and funny. He's actually there to help and is available during office hours and by text. The notes he provides are very detailed and will provide all almost all of the test material. Make sure to show up- pop quizzes count as extra credit on your final grade! Will take again.
Parker is an interesting guy, really nice. He can say things without thinking but it makes for interesting discussions. Gives great extra credit,is understanding , & approachable. Tests can be tough, you need to really study the PowerPoint material, I can't emphasize that enough. Only 3 tests, We grade the tests the next day which is a good thing!
Dr. Parker is hands down the best professor I've ever had at ODU. His lectures are captivating and there's a lot of active discussion that keeps it interesting. He's fair. His door is always open if you ever need help whether it's school related or personal. If you get a chance to take a class with him, do it. You won't regret it. Great guy overall
Excellent lectures. Keeps you engaged. I loved him and took more of his classes specifically. Lecture preposted. Go by his lecture notes. Great teacher!
Dr. Parker is the best professor I have ever had. I am always excited to go to class, no matter what he's teaching. I've taken two of his classes and would take any class he was teaching. There are few tests but many extra credit opportunities. If you aren't great with tests, you can write a paper instead. His Psych of Sex class changed my life
He is an abundance of cool information! I love attending his class and hate when I miss. You cannot fail this class unless you are a complete slacker. He gives opportunities for extra credit. Makes class fun! Great guy!!
There are only 2 teachers at ODU that I absolutely adored and enjoyed class with, Dr. Parker is one of them. Unfortunately, being a senior I won't get the pleasure of being in another one of his classes. I definitely recommend taking one of his classes, it's definitely an amazing experience- you enjoy being in class!
Professor Parker is seriously one of the BEST Psy teacher. He truly cares about his students, he wants you to learn, and most importantly he's there to answer any question you may have. He works with and really wants you to pass his class! I love him, he's a little corky and funny lol
Great prof. overall, I would take him again. Tests are taken directly from notes and a few lecture questions, so showing up to class is beneficial. He also gives pop quizzes and occasionally a test answer or two if attendance is really low. The only thing I didn't love is that he DOES NOT use blackboard and doesn't have any kind of set schedule.
Dr. Parker is an awesome professor who has a true calling for what he does! He cares about his students and actually wants you to learn something in college. I've taken a few of his classes and loved them all. GO TO CLASS not only bc his lectures are interesting but also bc he gives pop quizzes to reinforce it. Gives lecture notes LEARN THE NOTES!
Dr. P is a delight & knows his stuff! His lectures are entertaining, inspiring, & enjoyable. 4 tests, made up of 50 T/F & multiple choice questions. Tests straight from the notes, almost verbatim. Quizzes - but they only count for Xtra credit. No attendance policy. YOU DO NOT need the text! Offers 5 xtra credit points towards your final grade.
I was really nervous about taking Physio - but it was a joy w/ Dr. Parker. 3 tests, worth 75 pts each, made up of T/F, word banks, & multiple choice. Usually 1 or 2 diagrams on the exams. Random pop quizzes, but they only count towards extra credit on the exams. You can receive up to 5 additional extra credit points towards your final grade.
Dr. Parker is an absolute gem! His lectures were filled w/ anecdotes, role-plays, & hilarious drawings. Class was filled w/ repeat students who all adore him! You DO NOT need the textbook. 3 exams, 50 points each, made up of multiple choice & T/F. Dr. Parker offers tons of extra credit in the form of quizzes & 1-pg write ups. Easy A.
There has been no professor I have respected more than this man due to his knowledge and helpfulness. He'll stay an hour later to help students. I've taken Psych of Adolescence, Animal Behavior, Psych of Sex, Physio, Psych of Adolescence, and Principles of Learning. His lectures are not only awesome, but he makes you WANT to come to class. #YAASSS
Dr. Parker is one of my favorite professors. This is my last out of 3 classes I have had with him for my minor. There were 3 tests, extra credit quizzes, and he gives additional extra credit. You can opt to write papers if you don't want to take the tests. This class had a lot of info mostly like an anatomy class so you will have to study.
He's not a bad teacher. I had him last semester in person and class was pretty cool. He goes off topic alot which can be both good and bad, because sometimes its very interesting and sometimes its not and he gets off track. He's the worst with communication. Thats the biggest problem!!!!!!
Never take an online class with him. He's bad with communication. Ive been trying to get him to restart my exam for 4 days now and he keeps say he will do it later, but keeps forgetting! The worst !
Took in person and loved him, online he is horrendous. There is NO communication, students rely on each other for clarity. He says he's always available but texts and emails go unanswered. The syllabus is a joke. He does online meetings but most times gives less than 12hr notice of when they are. Would never take online again, he does better live.
I've taken several classes with Dr. Parker and he's awesome. Students absolutely love him. He provides his notes, but be aware that you may need to add information to them to make them more clear. Also, do not be fooled. He is very nice and funny, but tests are difficult!! He can be forgetful about things and slow to communicate, but great overall.
Professor Parker is one of my favorite professors at ODU, and will be taking him again next semester. He gives you the option to write papers instead of exams! He is hilarious and extremely helpful; however, if you do write papers he takes a awhile to get back to you on the grades. Definitely worth the writing if you are not a test taker.
Ive had him in person & online and I wouldnt recommend him for either. He's bad w/ communication. This is his 1st online course so he has no idea what he's doing. In person his stories can be interesting but he goes off topic with them ALOT. Notes are long but its exactly whats on the test.
Very uncommunicative, students relied on each other for clarity. Things weren't usually posted by the time he said they would be. The actual work isn't very hard at all, but prepare to stress over it anyways. Online is not his forte, which is disappointing given
I have heard wonderful things about this professor but that only holds true for in-person courses. NEVER TAKE A COURSE WITH THIS PROFESSOR IN AN ONLINE SETTING. Communication is almost nonexistent; I was constantly flooded with emails from other students asking if anyone knew what was going on. Online students are not a priority for him.
Took Parker's online class and he was straight up. New class so LOTS OF EXTRAS! If you take his class online do whatever it take but make the ONLINE SESSIONS... Gives extra credit and gives you his cell phone text awsoume.
Professor Parker is one of the best professors at ODU. He really works to support students. Online lectures were amazing- Attend online sessions to do well and know the material. Lots of reading but if you love the subject it is great stuff. Highly recommend him for this course and any other he may be teaching. Don't miss out taking his course.
Dr. Parker is a great instructor. He is enthusiastic about what he's teaching, and is very available for any questions. He holds (optional) live web-ex lectures/reviews which are recorded if you would like to view them later. Do the discussion boards - there are only a few of them, and they are 1/5 of your grade. Overall great instructor.
Professor Parker really cares about his students doing well in class and goes out of his way to make sure you do. For instance, he has repeatedly told the class that if exam day comes and you feel that you're prepared, arranging to take it another day that week when you have had more time to study is fine. Never had a professor as kind as him.
Dr. Parker is an awesome professor. I took his abnormal psychology class and loved it. He practices in the field so he brings a lot of real-world experience to the classroom which makes his lectures so interesting. Grade was based on best 3/4 exams and quizzes for extra credit + SONA. He is also very approachable. 10/10. Recommend.
Hell i'd come to sit in for this class just for the Trivia portion. Lectures are entertaining and enriching. Tests are bit challenging, but mainly due to the volume of info and terminology. Tests come from the notes and are not tricky. Extra credit is there and makes a worthy difference. If you fail, its all you, no reason to...
Dr. Parker is by far one of the most fascinating professors I've had the privilege to learn from. He genuinely loves his job and really wants his students to do well. He tells the best stories during his lectures and he relates every bit of subject matter to real life. Attending his class is the best way to pass... plus he's hilarious!
Best professor ever. Took all his psychology courses. Learned much and never bored. Three tests and pop quizzes used to curve grade. Study for the tests and you will do fine. No home work. Never a dull moment. Hilarious.
Best professor I have ever had. His lectures are so interesting. He is kind and caring of his students and sometimes shares his real life stories in such a humble fashion. He is also absolutely hilarious. Come to class and study for his tests. That is it. No homework and plenty of extra credit.
He is a great professor. There is never a dull moment in his lectures. He will let you write papers instead of tests which is awesome! However, him and a lot of other ODU professors need to keep politics outside of the classroom.
Animal behavior was probably one of the most interesting psych classes I've ever taken. Dr. Parker's lectures are always interesting and informative. Plus dog training day for extra credit.
Physiological psych is by far the hardest class I have ever taken, it was also probably the most beneficial. Every class I have taken since physio I have used something I learned in that class. Dr Parker is a great teacher, it is just a hard class with a lot of info. Lot's of ways to help your grade with extra credit or papers though.
Loved Parker's lectures, but his test were pretty hard until you figured out his style. But you can write a paper instead of taking the test or to replace the grades which can be helpful. Only 3 test grades count and he gives pop quizzes but only for bonus points. Puts notes on blackboard which is all you need to study. Very slow grader though.
I'm so sad I only discovered Dr. Parker in my last semester! I loved having him. The class was made of 3 exams, but he offers a ton of extra credit. I genuinely looked forward to this class because I actually LEARNED stuff instead of memorized stuff for tests I didn't care about. TAKE HIM!!!! You will not regret it!
Hes an amazing teacher because he actually teaches & he loves what he does because its so interesting. Theres only 3 tests which is all terms but if you prefer, you can write a 10 page paper in its place. Extra credit opportunities are there & hell work with you if you need it. One of the best lectur professors at ODU hands down.
I LOVE Professor Jason. He is an amazing professor and loves what he does. He is very knowledgeable of the topics and always tells stories to help you understand. He offers extra credit and its 4 tests and only 3 count. His tests are easy if you study and pay attention. I would take him for all my psychology classes if I could.
Dr. Parker is an essential asset to ODU. We are so lucky to have him as our instructor. He is the most passionate professor I have ever encountered, and he genuinely cares about his students. He goes above and beyond for his students, and I appreciate that so much. I enjoyed his class so much, I signed up for 3 more classes with Dr. Parker next sem
I cannot say enough good things about this professor! You NEED to take him! He is so funny and keeps class interesting. There are 3 exams. That's it! That is the whole class! It's amazing, and I have learned so much from Dr. Parker!
Dr Parker was my 1st psych professor at ODU & he made me very excited for my future in psych. In 321 the textbook isn't needed bc he posts his lecture notes for the class to use. As long as you read and follow the notes you'll be fine. He offers tons of extra credit & is an all-around wonderful professor. I looked forward to his class every week!
Professor Parker is my favorite professor so far at ODU. It's not a very easy class, but he makes it interesting and fun to learn. He provides many extra credit opportunities as well. I highly recommend taking him if you have the chance to. I am take two more of his classes next semester.
I AM CRAZY THANKFUL TO HAVE A PROFESSOR WHO ACTUALLY MAKES ME WANT TO SHOW UP FOR CLASS. I wasn't at all excited for this class because it was mandatory: BUT LISTEN HE MADE ME SO INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT. He is so interesting and I've literally never been like, "Yay its time for class." Lol. Class was fun and tests were easy. TAKE HIM OR REGRET IT
I literally love this man XD So charismatic, intelligent, and fascinating. Honestly the best professor I've had at ODU. I promise you won't regret taking any class with him.
If you are serious about psych, do not miss this opportunity to take his class. I am so happy I did. I don't know how else to convince you. lol. Do ittt!
Listen, I love the guy. He has a way with words. But he has a lot of issues with technology and does not post things when he says he will. At first it was fine, but then came the final exam. Sorry. I wanted to leave a better review, but jeez man. I need more structure than what you gave us.
This course is SO unorganized and chaotic. Almost every quiz and exam has multiple questions that are marked wrong when they are in fact correct. There is no semblance of a schedule, and he can't seem to be consistent with his promises. His lectures and quizzes are not uploaded timely, and it creates for a very stressful online course.
He is very nice, but his exams are very very very hard. You need to be Dedicated for his class. I took three of his class in one semester and they were like a nightmare to me.
I am a senior and this professor is the WORST professor I have taken in my four years here at ODU. He is unorganized and disrespectful, the whole semester myself and his students had to tell him when to post assignments and how to do his job. Save your time and money and do not take Jason Parker as a professor.
So, Dr. Parker is a great professor in that he is knowledgable and cares. HOWEVER, DO NOT TAKE HIM ONLINE!! Can't stress that enough. He is disorganized, he accidentally marks correct answers as wrong on tests, his scheduling makes no sense, he's often very unclear. Seriously, don't do it to yourself. Take him in person or don't take him at all.
took 322, 325 & 424. Teaches all course the same. Grade consist of 3 exams, couple quizzes & EC. Exams (MC, tricky T/F) & Quiz are literally based off notes, study them CAREFULLY & you will pass. Opt out of exam with 7-12pg paper. However, beware he is DISORGANIZED, never followed schedule, students had to beg him to post material.
I love Dr. Parker, but he is not an online professor. We waited until the end of the semester to take 2 exams. His notes were not timely posted, lectures on Zoom were not always uploaded, even though questions came from them on tests. Not mandatory to come, but almost fail if you do not. he is too "loose" with grading and deadlines.
Doesn't respond to emails on time. lectures are not posted in advanced blackboard is a mess. little to no grades in this class so you have to pass everything. Questions on quizzes that were correct were marked wrong. Relies on teaching assistants too much!
Insists on 60+min power points. Goes dark for weeks at a time, did not meet educational accommodations, and is unreliable outside texts. My advice: Read the book and lecture notes to prep for test. If he offers a live review, attend. Don't count on catching recordings; they'll never go up. Finally, check graded tests and call him on bad grading.
Dr. Parker is hands down the best. His lecture videos were very informative and relatable. He's available anytime of day and he had no problem spending as much time as you needed to understand the information. Offers lots of extra credit. Easy to get an A just do the reading, watch the videos, and ask questions. Highly recommend any of his classes.
You can pass the class on his lecture PowerPoint notes. Quirky quizzes and tests, but use notes and common sense. He is very good with the material and enjoys teaching. Would take a class from him again.
Dr. Parker is absolutely amazing with in person classes, hands down the best professor I've had. His lectures are very engaging and collaborative. As long as you are paying attention when in class, or read over the powerpoints/notes you can easily get an A. He is also incredibly understanding of when you have to miss a quiz or exam.
I loved Prof Parker. His lectures always kept me entertained and excited to come to class. He offers lots of extra credit which I should've taken advantage of, because the quizzes can be a little tricky. He genuinely loves teaching and you can tell he's a great guy. Attendance not mandatory. He can be disorganized though, so beware.
This class was taken online, and from what I have heard he is amazing in person, but apparently online, in my experience, was awful. The syllabus had no assignments or schedule of any type, we were told this is a class you can "binge", which meant that he wasn't going to post anything until class was almost over. Would not recommend to worst enemy.
Absolutely loved Professor Parker. You have 5 exams that make up your grade in the class. Nothing too hard, as long as you look over the material and come to class. His lectures are very chill and he cancels quite often. Recommend him for any type of psychology class!
Parker is good and his class was very easy for intro to psychology, BUT if you value organization he's not the prof for you. He was consistently late by 15 minutes, never put grades in, and I didn't learn much. For positives, he was funny, his lectures (when long enough) were entertaining, and he was very clear on tests.
The classes grade is based on 5 "exams", two of which are not technically exams. one is a pretest and some surveys and one is an average of some quizzes. His lectures are great. He is very knowledgeable in his field and knows how to make it at least a little interesting. He is generally very energetic and has a nice, loud speaking voice.
he is pretty funny and really knows what he's talking about and has a ton of experience. the only thing is that he can be pretty unorganized, but besides that i recommend him, he's great
Professor Parker is very passionate about psychology and his course is very easy. He engages with his students during lectures and makes the material understandable. I enjoyed listening to the stories that he would tell us. There are a few pop quizzes but they are very easy as long as you focus during the lectures. The tests are online and easy.
Professor is knowledgeable and makes the content engaging. Classes are structured a bit differently, but staying on top of the quizzes and pretests can help. I found Unstuck study helpful for efficient study prep.
