it was fun and i think everyone in my class passed this class
Very good teacher. Although, I talked about random stuff while in group discussions, I still passed the class.. in fact, I scored higher than I thought I would have...
Jason's a pretty chill guy. I liked the class even though I suck at writing and don't like it. He's helpful and laid back. Making eye contact isn't his thing for the most part but that's fine. Hah yea I suggest taking him. Compared to other 280 teachers I hear he is easy. I liked him and would def take him again.
this class is easy to pass but attendance is mandatory and i had a hard time going to his class. i found it boring and we did the same things all semester. like i said easy but boring. it wouldnt hurt to take him. after all it is a remedial class
This class is whatever; interesting if you enjoy writing, boring as all hell if you don't. The only thing you'll be doing in this class is writing essays...all semester. Pretty easy grader, nice enough guy. This class was really nothing special, but not horrible either.
this class wasn't easy, but i learned a lot and passed easily. he teaches you well so its easier to pass the test at the end. go to class! hes very understanding, i didnt go to class sometimes when the homework was due and i emailed it to him within the hour of the class and he still excepted it. only 1 homework assignment a week, its kind of easy
He was really good at making you think. Got you interested in the material. Frustrating as ever when he asks for answers to questions that have no answer. But it was fun. Kind of a love hate relationship but looking back I really miss his class. Made me realize analyzing and writing papers critically can actually be intriguing.
I do think Parker is a good teacher. He's pretty entertaining to listen to and always seemed interested in what he was teaching. He leads his class towards what he expects in the essays, but at the same time makes you think about it. I believe this helps the students develop their writing skills.
Good teacher. I learned a lot about writing while at the same time enjoyed going to class. He makes a strong effort to make the time go by.
Parker made this class interesting, he introduce every essay topic with a great introduction. 4 essays (includes final) and in class work. He emphasis on what to write and give numerous examples. You shouldn't be loss. Great class because Parker is a great teacher.
Professor Parker is an amazing guy. Essay's are not fun to write, but he makes them fun. There is a total of 4 essays and you are able to revise one, there is minor homework, just do it and you will get credit. He has a wonderful personality, I strongly recommend him. Awesome professor
Excellent professor
Made RWS my favorite class during the semester. I actually learned something and enjoyed the assignments! The stuff we had to read was interesting and i considered majoring in english for a bit.m No in-class essays, just 4 big essays and little assignments in between. Very chill.
Jason is super chill. Super funny guy. Overall, he made a BS class fun and interactive with his students. After taking his class I am a much better writer. TAKE HIM!!
Prof Parker is awesome. He is very helpful during office hours and in class. Class has 4 projects with multiple parts and a written final. He makes the objectives very straight forward. He gives you the chance to rewrite one project. Be sure to answer each prompt in the assignment. Highly recommend taking Parker.
Prof Parker is swell.
My writing has improved. Hes a great teacher, makes you feel comfortable to ask anything on the assignment during office hours, classes are clear. Hes a good enough teacher to help you understand the material well enough to receive a good grade on it. He organizes information well so students have clear direction. AMAZING teacher.
Great teacher. A little weird but easy to undestand. He helps you alot in class to understand the readings and definaly helps you revice your papers.
Overall, I think he did an excellent job teaching. I highly recommend that you go to his office hours because he will tell you the weaknesses of your essay. I thought the class was boring but he had his moments when he was hilarious. I recommend him. Don't buy the Keys for writers it's really useless and you don't even use it in class.
He is a really good teacher. I would take him again for RWS. He knows what he's talking about and is very helpful. He's a little sarcastic and made me a feel a little dumb sometimes but I'm sure I deserved it because I probably wasn't paying attention. He doesn't assign to much homework and he really wants his students to pass. I passed cuz of him.
Basically you work in groups, and are teaching eachother. He knows what his talking about, he just doesnt know how to explain it well. i had to get help from the personal tutor a lot, 2 out class essay and 2 in class essays, and some assignments/time writting practices, overall his not to bad. i got a "b" but i had to work for it.
Parker, is a great professor. He was very helpful and will walk you through the materials each class. He was also very helpful in office hours as long as you go to them. He was very reasonable with late works, as long as u have a valid excuse he'll let you off. He also have a "late pass" in paper so you were to turn in one essay late. RECOMMENDED.
Parker is very down to earth. Class is pretty chill, but still discussion goes on. Fairly easy grader, you get what you input. 4 papers, no final. Really funny/nice. WAY better than other RWS professors.
He's a great professor! I took him for Summer 2010 and ended up with a B+. Prof. Parker was very helpful and nice. I'll take him again if he teaches RWS 305.(:
Just to clarify, he is not worthy of that chili pepper! But he's a cool guy.
Outstanding teacher. His thoroughness and expectations for the class made the class better writers. Funny, chill guy. No real busy work. Only three big papers that he gives time and conferences to help you prepare for. Don't hesitate to not pick him as an instructor! I wish he was teaching RWS 200 for my next semester.
He's a cool guy. Really helpful, lets you turn one essay in late and revise another. He teach's in a unique way and always keeps you interested, he never just lectures. Fun, interesting, past raver and has some unique stories to tell. Overall best class of my semester I would take him again if I could!
He is very interesting, entertaining, and helpful. He really helps you to do well on your essays. He gives you all the material you need. Overall, I enjoyed going to this class.
Parker is easily one of the best English teachers I've ever had. His class is really chill but he is really helpful when it comes to the papers. If you come to class, pay attention, and at least participate a little, I think it really helps you out. Some discussion board stuff but that's not hard at all. Essays are easy and it was a cool class.
He's really chill and helpful. Class was definitely entertaining and interesting, and he knows what he's talking about. I missed class quite often but still pulled a B-
i had parker for summer bridge and i can say he is a good professor. however, he does push you to your limit. he will explain what he is looking for in a paper but he won't tell you what you can and can't put, it's up to you to decide if it's appropriate or not. i recommend you take him, you will become a better writer at the end of the semester.
Professor Parker is an interesting one... I maintained an A for the summer. He's very unique which makes him stand out a lot more than other professors. He's very straightforward with the essays and clearly tells you what he's looking for. Even though I got A's on my essay, he goes over it without emotions just a check mark. Take his class! Its fun
He is very cool. The class is really fun and interesting. If you want to write good essays, you have to listen very well because everything he says in class will either help you to be a better writer, or help you on how to answer the essay prompt. I really had fun in that class.
Great Professor. He really kept my interests in class, and helped my writing skills increase to the level it needed to be. Take his class there is nothing negative to say.
You might be reading this Parker. His class was very easy and at the same time very helpful. Parker is willing to help you if you have any kind of problems with the readings. Very clear on his what he wants you to do in his assignments. Lot of group activities. Take him, definitely recommended.
Very cool teacher. He is easy and a fair grader. He's helpful and give interesting assignments that will expand you mind. Take his class for a very enjoyable semester of rws.
Pretty Chill prof. Clarity is somewhat confusing on his prompt. Class consists of 4 papers. 1 of them a group paper, 4th 1 is you in class final. Didn’t really need the book, thus one of the assignment is from the book. If you can share a book for a day, you’re fine. Plus, you get to revise one of your 1st or second paper. So overall, pretty good.
Pretty good.
Jason is awesome. He has actually made me believe that writing isn't as insufferable as every other RWS professor has made it. He's hilarious, extremely clear about his expectations for each assignment, and SO helpful in his private meetings so GO to them! He is also an extremely fair grader. I wish I took him for RWS 100 & 200. TAKE HIM!
Parker is awesome. I couldn't have imagined taking this class with anyone else, he is SO helpful and such a funny guy. Would start off class with letting us know how his fantasy football team was doing! I wish he was teaching RWS200 next semester! Minimal reading for essays, was a really fun class to take. Take him, you won't regret it!
Unlike most RWS Professors, going to class was actually interesting and exciting. He would always talk about video games or fantasy football. Essays weren't incredibly easy but he leaves comments and you will be fine if you go to his office hours or take him up on private meetings! Read ALL sections of the prompt.
I found his feedback extremely confusing, but if you go to class and office hours you will survive the class. The essay topics were some what interesting. He is an OK grader, didn't feel like I learned much but I got a B.
His class was always interesting. He frequently mixes funny things about his own life, especially sports, into his lectures and is very cool. His writing style is very laid back and entertaining, so if that is how you write too, expect high grades on your 4 papers. Sometimes he gives in class assignments so I recommend attending class.
I loved Jason! I went to his office hours frequently and he would look over my rough drafts and give me advice on how to improve them. I did well because of his insight and his class is manageable with little to no reading as well as little to no tests. I would 100% take him if he taught RWS 200! One of my favorite professors
Parker is the coolest professor I've had at SDSU, he gives great feedback and is always there to help revise your essays, although you have to read the texts and do your own analyzing and writing, he trys his best to make it as easy as possible for you, he is into modern topics and fantasy football! have fun!!
I loved this class! Parker was a wonderful professor. I wasn't the best writer in high school, but this class and his help really changed my writing skills. Helped a ton for my RWS 200 class. Great teacher!
Professor Parker is pretty cool. In class assignments. There's 4 papers and they are all pretty easy. I really liked that he made 2 of the topics within your field of major, so while doing the paper you also learn about your major. Easy class, super helpful. Don't get the textbook, you don't need it unless you're a really horrible writer.
Took him at City College. Learned some. Makes you work for it. Reasonable and allows one revision on a paper. Relaxed class which ends early. If you suck at English this isn't an easy A. If you are mediocre and he knows you are working for it expect an A.
Parker assigns 4 papers that are around 5-6 pages long. Read the prompt and the grading criteria and you'll know exactly what he wants. Go to his office hours because he gives you good feedback! READ the assigned articles but the template chapter are kinda BS. He doesn't really assign tests but there are a few quizes. No Final.
Awesome teacher! enjoyable classes and relatively easy if you put the work into the 4 papers that are assigned during the semester. Also, expect to not have class sometimes, awesome bonus!
Parker is a cool, chill guy. You only have to write 4 essays, which shouldn't be hard if you read the book, go to class and participate in discussion, and ask for help. He also cancels class a lot, which is nice. No final or midterm, but there are a few quizzes and writing activities that will help you with your paper.
Jason was very laid back and simple. He showed up to class lectured and went over prompts for each essay and if not he just showed us videos of TED talks, youtube videos, etc. Simply follow his prompts and go to his officer hours for feedback and you'll pass with an A easily. 4 essays, one essay extra credit at the end of semester and homework here
Parker is seriously the best RWS teacher! I took him for RWS100 and 200 and did well in both classes. He is super clear about his grading criteria for the essays and always has really relevant topics/prompts that are actually interesting to students. Go to every class because it will definitely improve your understanding of the prompts.
Parker is one of the funniest/weirdest professors. Definitely makes an 8 am more enjoyable. His papers are reasonable length wise just make sure to make an appointment with him before the paper is due. He will give you advice on how to edit the paper and make it better.
Parker is the best teacher I've had so far. He's funny as hell, and you'll get A's on his essays easily as long as you put a little work in. Would definitely recommend his class over other RWS100 classes, he's a great teacher and makes writing easy. 10/10.
I loved Parker. He is a great teacher and explains everything very well! He is not a tough grader at all, as long as you put in the effort. He always has office hours and is super helpful when you have questions! He makes this class really interesting and I would definitely take him again.
Prof Parker is pretty cool, but I wish he wouldn't talk about his pet opossum so much
Your grade is three essays, which he offers lots of help on. He's an easy grader so be sure to go to his office hours.
Parker's style of teaching is pretty mellow. He will show you videos and articles based on whatever topic we plan on writing about a few weeks while drafting your essay. There are 3 essays + the final. You have to turn a rough draft of your essay which motivates you not to do it last second. His syllabus said there were quizzes but there were none
Great class for the WPA requirement. You will learn in this class.
Amazing guy. Wants you to succeed. Go to his office hours before essays are due so he can tell you what needs revision. Needed to buy a book that he had a couple quizzes on. A couple pop quizzes but he usually hinted at them. Overall a really easy class as long as you put effort in.
Professor Parker is an amazing teacher overall. His lectures can be a bit dry and boring, but he really does care about his students. His is always helpful during office hours and often cancels class the entire week that essays are due. Super approachable and easy to talk to.
Parker is a great professor but his lectures are pretty dry. There are a total of 4 assignments that are pretty straight forward. If you want an A on the assignments GO TO OFFICE HOURS with a completed rough draft and he'll really help with what needs to be changed/edited. Very approachable professor.
Good professor, lectures can be a bit dry, tries to add some humor; which is cool. No tests or Qs, just essays, more or less total 4 of them. Very approachable when it comes to editing. Go to off. hrs., he'll give feedback. Willing to cancel class for a wk. to meet at off. hrs. to work on your essay. Doable to get a passing grade
Parker was a great professor! However, I personally found his class difficult because most of the essays were centered around politics or public relations happening, such as current controversies. Im really bad at current events because I dont like to get too political and pick sides, So if your like me this class might be hard for you too.
Parker is by far the best RWS professor at State. He has an amazing sense of dry-humor and makes class fun, regardless of the material being taught. Your grade is based mainly on three essays, and then several short reflective essays. He prepares you for the WPA really well. Overall, he is an amazing professor all around.
Parker is quirky and funny, that can sometimes come off as weird but nevertheless entertaining. He says attendance is mandatory but after like a month he stopped taking it. Grade consists of 4 essays and 2 short reflective essays. There is like 3 15 question quizzes but they're REALLY easy.
Jason Parker is the greatest of all time. I couldn't imagine a better English professor. He is funny and always be there to help you. TAKE HIM PLEASE!
Parker is super chill and his class isnt so hard. Make sure you show up and learn what you need to know about the next essay and you should get an A if you get his help. He is super chill with grading too, hes not your average professor. People said his lectures are boring, but he actually talks about real world issues so its not boring.
Jason is a super cool guy. He extends due dates because he is going to go to a Red Socks game with his brother). He jokes about raving and skyrim. And he makes sure you are fully prepared for the assignments in the course. He is an awesome guy and I am definitely glad I was able to get into his class. Looking for an easy course, here it is.
Parker is a fun and quirky dude. If you're just coming to SDSU and you have him, he definitely takes some pressure off from the stress you might be feeling. His classes are pretty easy, essays are prompted clearly. So far, he seems like a pretty hard grader. I think he really really wants you to go to him to review any papers before you turn it in.
Jason Parker is one of my favorite professors at State. He is so funny and really relatable to students. He is very clear about what he expects on assignments and gives plenty of time to complete them. 10/10 take his class.
I just completed a semester with Parker and I fully enjoyed it. He's really funny and quirky which makes the class more interesting. A's on essays are pretty attainable if you put some effort into them. Also, he's always available for office hours and is willing to help you with your writing so utilize that time!
Honestly, Parker is such a great guy. I AM SO GLAD I GOT AN 8 ON THE WPA BECAUSE THAT IS WHY I GOT TO TAKE HIS CLASS. From my resume, cover letter and general writing, Parker has been such a great professor this last semester. If you can fit his class into your schedule, do it. If you can't, then fix your schedule. He's awesome... dont miss out!!!
Probably my favorite professor from this past semester. Super cool and funny, and all the assignments are on very relevant subjects. He also gives you so many opportunities to ask questions and receive help with your writing. I really enjoyed his class and would recommend him to anyone who needs to take RWS 200.
The greatest 8am class I've ever taken. Parker is a super laid-back, chill, & intelligent professor. His section definitely was much less work than everyone else I talked to taking RWS200. Gives great feedback & will guide you step by step to ensure your success. Very easy class to show up to & participate in. Work very hard and you'll be golden!
A little quirky, but one of the best professors I've had. He goes above and beyond for his students, and does a non-traditional final project instead of an essay. A few quizzes from the book and 3 writing projects. I hated RWS 100, but loved this class and the perspective I gained from it. Highly recommend!
this guy is amazing! definitely recommend taking RWS with him. super funny! he gives multiple choice question quizzes every unit that are very simple. writing projects aren't too hard and gives awesome feedback. 10/10 recommened
Parker is funny sometimes with his random jokes. But also his material can be very boring & I feel like every time we had a new writing project, he didn't fully explain the material. I attend every class and pay attention, but yet we have a paper due in 2 days and I have no idea what a rhetorical analysis is or an "OP-ED", I had to google them! smh
Parker is good but not great. As for RWS classes, he's one of the easier ones. He sometimes seemed lazy and apathetic towards teaching. His assignments were never extremely hard and he doesn't grade overly harsh. The topics were interesting! Overall, he's not bad. He's a solid choice, but he won't be one of those teachers that has much impact.
Professor Parker teaches in a way that's really easy to understand while cracking a joke or two along the way. He makes you want to do well in the class and cares about his students. He makes sure to be available outside of class and gives good feedback on your questions or submissions. Take a class with him!
Good choice for 495. All 495 classes have the same assignments but Jason is the way to go. He loves to rave and play video games. Very open with communication. Assignments are essay or presentation style reflecting on yourself so it is not very hard. Due to covid, he made great flexible changes which still allowed for assignments to get done.
Really good guy. He gives a lot of opportunities to ask questions. He sets up office hours and specific time slots to respond to student emails. Assigns non-traditional writing assignments to make the class more interesting. A lot of the texts that he assigned were very relevant to current events. Fair grader and offers good feedback.
Prof. Parker is a kind teacher with a good sense of humor. His grading criteria is super clear and he gives great feedback, so the essays are straightforward and relatively simple. The topics he chooses are super interesting and informative. Only one synchronous class per week and a few readings.
My favorite professor I have had. So nice & funny, has a different grading criteria. Coming to class and completing the work for the class and extra credit will get you an A. The extra credit isn't super hard and he makes it easy to understand what you need to do to get the grade you want. I tried to take him again second semesterbut class was full
As with all writing classes be ready to write several papers, but you get several weeks to do so. He gives great feedback and is pretty flexible in office hours meeting.
There are a lot of papers to write, but he makes class very engaging.
This class was fairly easy and the professor is very kind and funny, but frankly I HATE the grading structure. On each project you only need a 5/9 to get a B in the class, but getting a 9/9 will STILL just get you a B. You have to do 3 extra credit assignments for an A. Seems silly to me, but if all you want is to pass, Parker is your guy.
I am in Parker's RWS 100 class, he is my favorite teacher I have had so far. He talks like he is a ted ed speaker which is super badass. His presentations are engaging and his assignments make you think. If you apply yourself you will succeed in his class. I want to take his upper division classes.
Take Parker if you want ted talk style lectures, group projects/presentations, and a lot of hw + 3 major essays. Each assignment is graded on a complete/incomplete system, no letter grades each assignment is worth the same, as long as you cover the points in the prompt, you receive a complete on that assignment. You'll pass but its pretty boring.
Relatively straight forward class, I went to all class sessions, turned in all of my assignments on time, and had no problem. For the final reflective essay, I accidently submitted the wrong document and didn't notice for a couple days. Even though I had never messed up a submission before, I got no credit and my grade dropped from an A to B. Sad.
this Professor really cares about us learning and being successful. he's not the type to dock you for missing a part on an assignment, he wants us to learn, so hell give you an opportunity to fix it. I appreciated the way he graded because it encouraged the learning process, it embraces mistakes as part of the process.
I really enjoyed this class!!! I definitely would recommend taking him. He is a really unique professor, and is also super understanding of his students.
Loved my guy Jason. There were a lot of assignments but he was very understanding if you had a life outside of school (work etc). Brought us snacks to class all the time. Thought provoking assignment prompts! Definitely a recommended professor.
The professor is nice, but his grading system was awful. He waits until the last possible second to grade assignments that were due in March. We stayed on the same topic all semester and every assignment felt like the same question over and over again. Nothing was taught in this class that wasn't taught in high school. I would chose another class.
Jason was one of my favorite professors! He's super funny and down to earth and so flexible which I loved. He's understanding and what you learn in the class is actually valuable and interesting in your day to day life. Usually there's discussion boards for every class you have to answer and those are easy points you can learn. Take this course!
He has a unique teaching style which made class more entertaining. You do have to attend lectures but your given a couple days that you can skip. There are a couple papers throughout the semester but they are graded on a CR/NC basis. If you do want to get a higher grade than a B, you have to do extra work, but its not that bad. Overall good class.
Great all around Professor. After his class, I feel a lot more confident about my academic writing skills.
Easy straight forward class, a good professor.
I loved Jason!! This class was definitely one of my favorites last semester. Although there were 4 quizzes and 4 essays, they were all pretty easy as long as you read the material and do the weekly discussion posts. This class is an easy A if you do all of the assignments.
Prof. Parker's RWS200 class is engaging, with interesting topics and clear grading criteria. While the workload can be heavy, using helpful tools like Unstuckstudy alongside the readings can make it manageable. Overall, a solid choice for an RWS credit.
My fav amazing professor! The lectures, quizzes, and papers are straightforward, and his expectations for the assignments are clear and reasonable. He is ALWAYS willing to answer questions if you are ever confused and responds quickly. A man of awkward humor, but he tries his best to entertain his students on a subject that he is passionate about!
Super straightforward and my overall favorite class i would 100% take it again
He is honestly the best professor! He is super chill, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students. All of the tests are very straightforward and all based off of material he has taught. The essays are also super clear to understand and he allows you to bring in a cheat sheet for the in class essays to build off of.
Very cool teacher, he made English class enjoyable again and I love that. He's easy to talk to, works with you however he can, and is very understanding of any situation you might have. Lenient on attendance, let's you take 5 days off and it wont affect your attendance. I did miss a couple days but you should go to his class, he's awesome.
I really enjoyed Parkers class. He wants you to get the most out of it without giving too much work. He holds conferences about the essays in which he critiques and tells you what is left to write, which sets you up for success. You can also revise your first three essays. He is caring, funny, and will accommodate to you.
