I took his class online and found that forum to increase helpfulness. Questions to him were answered very quickly. Some people had trouble, but I found the clarity of having everything written out before you to be great.
Good teacher and very fair on tests and quizes. Some students hated the essays but I felt that they provided a better understanding of History.
Best experience in 3 years. Not only made the class interesting but he took the time to get to know the students. I am not one to speak up or ask questions but I was by the end of the quarter.
Excellent teacher, knew his stuff very well I learned alot from him. I have noticed he is a history teacher now. But I certaitly would not mind taking history from him. You get the chance to take a class from its highly reccomended
He is a great guy and wil work with you and your schedual if you need help.
His class is very interesting! I would definitely reccomed it. But don't take it if you are not into reading about history.
Good teacher, good lectures, boring readings, easy quiz's, interactive class
This is the worst class ever. I had hopes of taking it and actually learning about History but all we did was read essays and analyze them. I would not recommend this class is your looking to learn about the Pacific Northwest.
This professor suffers from a lack of cohesive connection. Then class was all over the place, from one century to the next and into present day, then back to ancient China, etc...When test time came I had not heard of anything on the page. Avoid this guy if you are interested in facts unfolding in any useful order.
This class was very hard due to the fact that we never covered the material, rather, Mr. Ripper rambled on tangents and whatever happened to come up. I am an A student and I felt lost at test time. There have to be better options...
Requires a lot of writing! 5 page essays every week!
Jason was VERY helpful- he did what he could to make himself available to go over assignments one-on-one. He is genuinely interested in what the students were writing about. Fun, easy-going, but still makes you put in effort. I learned a great deal from him through his unique teaching style and different perspective on writing.
He picks favorites and if you're not one of them, the class can be extremely difficult. If everything is not done exactly his way, you'll never be a favorite. He skips around a lot of seems to have trouble staying on topic, he'll be talking and then jump into a personal story and try to jump back into the subject but be completely off.
Solid teacher with a good understanding of the subject. Great clarity, but I would rate him as average.

Great instructor! Lectures were amazing.
amazing lecturer!! he has a nice voice & speaks very fluently, knows material like the back of his hand, & eloquently connects seemingly unrelated info. there were tangents and personal stories, but all were relevant & made the environment more personable. he's interested in student input & willing to help in/out of class. & VERY easy on the eyes!!
Excellent teacher. Deep passion for the subject and for helping students understand. Is an adult teacher and does not spoonfeed students, which causes some students to dislike him. Focuses on what is important in the topic and tests clearly based on his expectations.
Very good instructor, the lecturers are always really informative, and tests are a brease if you show up for class and do the little bit of reading he asks you to do.
Intriguing.
Very good teacher. I would highly recommend his courses. I'm in my second course with him now and it just keeps getting better.
AMAZING teacher, AMAZING man, I don't think that I've ever taken a class that I've enjoyed this much. Everyday was something new and fun, and I looked forward to it every waking moment of my life. He's very smart and knows his subject well, plus he's kind of...well...sexy. If I could, I would take the same class over and over again.
Ripper's class was the first college course I ever took. He did not disappoint. He was very entertaining and witty and he made the content enjoyable. His tests weren't bad. I had a summer course so there was less work. Highly recommended.
This class was horrible! the tests were base on the readings, which were huge amounts. the questions are all multiple choice usually but they are very specific. you have to study really hard. plus, he goes off on random tangents that waste time
Awesome guy. Really helpful and fun to listen to. Goes on rants, but they're usually entertaining even if not on subject.
I took Eng97 with him back in the day. He's a cool teach. Knows his stuff. For some reason, he would always take my essays for the class criticizing/analyzing. I guess he just liked to pick on me. In a good way... :) He grades based on your progress. For example, I got a D- on my first essay out of 5 essays total, but still got an A- in his class.
He was awesome and a complete inspiration. He gave everyone in my class confidence to do and achieve more. Take his class, you wont regret it.
I took several classes with Jason. He is by far my favorite professor ever. He loves history, is a great lecturer, and is a hottie. His tests are multiple choice and he doesn't even ask you about the dates of historical events! Classes don't get much easier. I went to class three days a week and easily got an A. And he's hot.
Jason's lectures are fantastic and fun, but on the rare occasion he wants student input, you better be ready with thoughtful comments. READ THE BOOK! Otherwise you WILL FAIL. Also, he doesn't like to grade anything until the last day, but it's curved so you never know. I loved the topical references, great class!
4 unit projects for the whole quarter, spent probably 8 days on this class out of the whole quarter! If you have a problem just go in and see him he is easy to talk to.
Mr. Ripper is a wonderful teacher, if you're looking for a little effort class his is the one, you never have to do any work other than reading the text books, as long as you read what you're required to you'll definitely pass the class! His lectures are enjoyable and rarely controversial, most polite & funny professor I've ever had here at EvCC.
Great teacher, really easy to talk to and very knowlegable. His class focus a lot on the required readings, but his lectures are often insightful and about way more then what is read. I would highly recommend his classes to anyone.
Great teacher. More professors should be like this.
His online classes are fairly easy, IF you are comfortable with a large amount of reading and writing. All he grades is your writing (no tests). Be prepared to write about 35-50 pages during the quarter, but you can write on whatever you like within the historical period. If you read the assigned materials and do the writing, you should get an A.
Great teacher and his lectures are very interesting. Most history teachers are boring but he is not. There is a lot of reading involved with this class. The tests are mostly based off the readings. If you do ALL of the readings then you are sure to get a good grade. I would recommend him.
Jason is a great teacher. His lectures are stimulating, and he actively involves the class in the discussion. The tests are based of the reading, so as long as you read what you are suppose to, you'll be fine. Jason is easy to talk to, laid back, and always there if you need help with anything. I would highly recomend taking his classes.
I took Jason Ripper when he was an English teacher. He had a very laid back approach and I wondered why we were required to buy the text book. I think we only used it once. He thought outside the box. He also liked people who didn't pick the normal topics. I would take him again.
Jason is really laid back and describes history in a relative way. Our quizzes were mostly online and he didn't care if you took it with someone else. Although attendance is not required I found myself going everyday because the class was so interesting. I would take his class again.
Loved his class although I wasn't actually "in class" very often- not because his class was boring but because I just don't like history. This was the most interesting history class I have ever taken.
I had a really difficult time with Jason. He doesn't seem to know to handle an online class very well. We had huge, and I mean tremendous, amounts of reading between his book and another textbook. We were graded on our discussion board posts which were intensive and I personally did not get much out of. I learned a lot, but I'm happy to be done.
I think that Jason is an amazing teacher. I fished community collage in 2010. Over my three years in collage at EVCC I took almost all his history classes. He is knowledgeable of the content and has a deep passion for History as do I. He only grades on tests and papers which is awesome. I would 100% recommend him as a teacher.
Very nice professor. There's one presentation, but if you are afraid of speaking in front of people, there are some alternatives. He isn't afraid to jump into religious history. He's also very funny and loves telling stories.
Had him online. Tough grader on discussion boards, a bit challenging to get an A if you don't do discussion boards. Actively participate on discussion boards. This teacher is alright, pretty chill.. You learn a lot in his class..
This class only had 4 discussion boards for the whole quarter, that is it! We pretty much had to read the book without any lecture. The teacher didn't really interact much not unless he is giving you a harsh grade. This was just very hard and a waste of my time.
I learned a lot and enjoyed the class, however, Jason did not keep appointments, did not open discussion boards on time, and overall seemed disinterested in teaching this course. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Professor Ripper is a very intelligent man. He knows his history and he will let you know if what you're posting in the open discussion board is good, or bad. However, when it comes to grading he will most likely be extremely vague in what you did wrong. He is extremely picky in grading sometime, so in order to please him, I had to work my ass off.
Jason Ripper is the best teacher I've ever had. He's knowledgeable, intelligent, funny, and good at drawing parallels and connections between different subjects. He wants his students to do the work, but there isn't too much of it, so there's really no excuse not to. He's one of the good ones. Highly recommend you take one of his classes.
Took online class. Harsh grader, knows his history pretty well though. This one time I was supposed to get a 90 something on one of the discussion boards.. then moments later he regraded each of my posts and made it into a 60-70.. It sucked so bad. Horrible class, super uninteresting. Take a different teacher.
Ripper is a good teacher but I wouldn't recommend taking 147 or any of his other history classes, if you've already taken one. The discussion board format gets very tiring after two straight quarters. Content wise 147 is a great class though and I felt like I learned a lot about the Civil War in particular from Ripper's book.
lil' bit hard
Took hybrid class. Only assignments graded are quizzes and discussion boards. Review in class is all over the place and doesn't seem to relate to what was read in the book. Good teacher overall though. Not sure if I'd take class again.
He is a super chill guy; however, his class was very difficult for me. I took his hybrid class, and it's only based off weekly tests and discussion boards. Need to have his book, and there is a substantial amount of reading to do. I won't take from him again in a hybrid setting, but I might if he is better when regularly seen.
Jason is a GREAT teacher! So far, he is my favorite teacher at EvCC. I will give some advice, DO ALL THE READING. Jason uses the textbook a lot and it is ESSENTIAL to pass the quizzes. If you don't stay on top of the reading you will fail. All in all though, Jason is a great teacher. I absolutely love his class and look forward to it everyday.
He really can make a person get into history. I would take any of his classes. I highly suggest him to anyone who needs history or just wants to really learn.
Fun class! All the learning came out of the book, so showing up only mattered on quiz days (most days were just discussions). Weekly quiz, only one assignment due at the end and no final! Plus you could extra credit for drawing cartoons about the reading on the back of the quiz! He was a bit picky about what kind of index cards used for quizzes.
Jason Ripper is well educated in colonial history, but his lack of focus during lectures is a cause for concern. Jason seems to rant more than he educates, and has issues with staying even remotely on topic during group discussions, possibly His weekly quizzes are poorly executed and have little to do with source material.
He is a great teacher and was really helpful!
A very interesting class if you're already interested in History. As long as you do the readings and study you'll do great
This class is extremely boring... There is a lot of reading and his writing is tough to get through.
I took Ripper's course on campus. He is hilarious, intelligent, and makes history interesting. I gave C effort and got an A. He gives some really funny personal stories, will get to kow the students, and won't deal with your crap. Study maybe 10 minutes a week for the tests, and don't procrastinate on the essays, and it'll be a breeze.
You can pass this class pretty easily by just making sure to read the book - every question on the weekly quizzes is on there - but it's worth going because he gives interesting lectures. I recommend doing the weekly journal thing every week instead of at the end because it's AWFUL to do in one day. Overall a pretty great class.
Jason is awesome! I loved the class. His instruction are straight forward. His lectures are funentertaining if you enjoy history. Do the reading though! Otherwise it will not be a fun quarter for you... he will give pop quizzes. He gives out one actual assignment for the quarter, which will require your time. Don't procrastinate (I didn't).
Took the summer quarter of world history 103. Didn't do well on the first two tests. A lot of reading and facts to remember. Overall I enjoyed the class. Mr. Ripper is witty and makes the class rather enjoyable. Don't expect to be handed an easy grade. You must work at it. Great professor, will be taking classes with him again.
I've had two classes so far with Ripper. They're SUPER easy, provided you do the reading--don't procrastinate on it. He assigns light reading every day. Quizzes every Thursday, usually 10 Q's. Pretty simple and easy to guess if you didn't read. 1 writing assignment per week due EOC, really easy. He doesn't expect much. Easy A even for bad students.
Prof. Ripper is one instructor that has resonated with me here at Everett Community College! Not only is he a wealth of knowledge but super entertaining to listen to and engaging in his class lectures. I feel that his class is "easy" if you show up and participate but reading and preparing for the final project is essential!
He makes history really interesting. He also is very relaxed, one time he made a pop quiz to see who could come up with the best history rap, extra points for some cuss words haha
This is a really reasonable teacher. Although intimidating at first- on a one on one basis he is super reasonable and helpful. He knows his stuff. He lays out pretty clear guidelines so just follow them and you will be just fine. Overall pretty easy class and I took the online version.
Overall was a good class, and he was a laid back professor. Quizzes every Thursday that come straight from the book, and mandatory reading. Plus he's hot.
Ripper was a fantastic teacher he really made the class fun and easy going. He was really understanding when you turned something in late and you always had the chance to take the quizzes even if you missed them. He made history interesting and showed how it could be compared to modern life. His quizzes weren't to hard if you read the book.
I have heard many wonderful things about this teacher, but online he is practically non-existent. The papers are long but relatively easy, and the teachers presence is hardly there. I emailed him several times alerting him that it was a due date for something and he had yet to create a board for. He does not answer questions and grades slow online
Jason Ripper is an awesome professor, he knows what he is talking about, and always makes jokes during class. This class was easy as long as you read the chapters, and study for the small quizzes, then your all good. Just make sure to always check canvas because sometimes he cancels class, and informs you in the morning of that day.
He wrote his own book, so he's very picky about how you write about it. If you don't have time to do like an hour or more of homework every night for this class, then I don't recommend it. This class requires a LOT of writing.
What is expected is kind of confusing and the grading is consitant
4 discussion boards, 4 quizzes. Each discussion must add up to a minimum 6 pages in length, double space font 12 (to get a C), and cover all topics in assigned readings. Limited time, one attempt only quizzes.
Jason is a fantastic person and I really recommend taking him for history. If you leave an impression in class he will remember you for years after you've taken him!!
I would not recommend this teacher if you're considering taking his online class. He does not do things in a timely fashion and doesn't seem to prioritize or at least check in on his online student's work. Your grade is based solely off of a total of 8 assignments, making it very easy to do badly.
Cool dude! Awesome stories, what else to say?
The guy gives great lectures and is charismatic. I strongly doubt how much he actually cares about his job. He seems to do the bare minimum, collects his paycheck so he can support his lifestyle. He is super laid bak and is the teacher equivalent of a student who wants to get their stuff done and get out of class. If you want an easy A, he's the 1.
Jason is interesting. They call him easy A ripper, but he is the only B I have ever gotten at EVCC. Don't miss class, it really pisses him off. He is a cool dude for sure, but fishy on grading . A lot of people like him, like, A LOT, but he just wasn't my cup of tea. He purposely made the tests hard because ppl were skipping class, so it hurt me.
Jason was a rip! Awesome and funny guy, better great teacher. His lectures were extremely thought provoking and felt more like a philosophical class. He made it easy to participate during class and talked about honest, real-life issues back then and currently. Really appreciated his down-to-earth nature. I would definitely take Ripper again.
I believe that Ripper is an amazing person, however, I don't think he is a great teacher. He is VERY (emphasis on very) lecture heavy. He tends to ramble on and on about things that don't relate to what we should be talking about. He requires you to read many articles over the weekend and never goes over them in class.. Quizzes are difficult.. :/
He is okay but not as good as other instructors that I've met before. Jason usually talks out of the topic. I was late once and when I got to the class, he had not started yet. Just make sure that you have prepared or read the book before going to the class. He will go over those things and it will be easier to understand if you have prepared.
This is the second class I took with him. His classes are mostly lectures but instead of just telling us information, he likes to make it interactive and deviate from strictly just lecturing to having class discussions on the reading. He also grades your notes on fact vs. interpretation which is different but better than a final exam.
Incredible professor, you will learn a lot, makes you think critically, hilarious guy, very kind.
Ripper is an amazing guy. He's absolutely hilarious, really kind, and will joke around while still giving an awesome lecture. However, there is some hefty reading that is fact-dense. It's hard for someone like me who has ADD, but if you plan out your readings, the class should be a piece of cake. If you're questioning taking Ripper's class, DO IT!
Ripper is an awesome teacher who truly cares about his students. His lectures are very thought provoking and entertaining. I recommend doing the readings ahead of time to not be overwhelmed when quiz day rolls around. You won't regret taking him as an instructor!!
Jason answered every question I had about assignments, but he doesnt conform to things like his syllabus. All of your assignments are discussion boards, a minimum of 6 pages to get a C. 4 times quizzes. Really cool guy and super laid back class
Jason is the best. He's hilarious, kind, and personable while making the classroom a really fun learning environment. He does talk quickly, and taking notes is difficult... however, if you bring a recorder and let him know that you'd like to record, you're all set. I was never bored, and I took his classes consecutively for three quarters.
Ripper is super fun to listen to, and his class is only as difficult as you want it to be. If you want an A, you'll have to work hard, but if you're okay with a B it's a pretty chill class. He's very accessible and understanding. Skipping class won't hurt you too bad, and he doesn't mind.
Ripper is a tough grader and your grade is based on 4 assignments. If you do bad on one of them than you better get an A or B on the rest in order to past the class. He gives good feedback, but I hate how the class is based on a couple of assignments. And you get lots of reading too which makes the class even harder.
Ripper is talkative and friendly! He is understanding and often let us out of class early :). Very lecture heavy, and lots of reading, but if you're good at memorizing facts you'll do well. Only thing that frustrated me was in order to get an A we had to write a whole extra assignment per class. RIP my 4.0. Ain't nobody got time for that.
He uses books that are interesting. Your grade is based off 10 quizzes, which are not about themes from the reading but rather about specific details that no one should expect you to know or care about. He's super lazy, he doesn't assign the reading until the last possible second and gives you your grade (10 question mc quizzes) a week later.
I loved going to his lectures. The workload was manageable and I had a good time overall. Be prepared to write.
Ripper is a fantastic teacher. You absolutely do need the textbook and to read it on the days assigned, he will randomly ask questions about the readings and if no one can answer he will give you all zeros on the upcoming test. Pretty much all class is is lectures that the quizzes are not based on, but he's super funny and you will learn a lot.
real funny dude & no midterm or final
He's pretty easy going most of the time
I'm glad I took this class. You need to be prepared to write a LOT, but you get plenty of time to complete the coursework. The work isn't particularly difficult, but it can get time-consuming. I learned more in this class than in any other history class I've ever taken. He's a slow grader but he gives really great feedback every time.
Quizzes are based entirely off of reading. About an hour or two of reading per night. You won't do well in the class if you don't do the reading. Final assignment is based upon notes taken in class and formulated fact-based opinions. He's really relaxed; sometimes pretty silly and goofy.
You have to read a lot each night and if you don't, you will most likely not do good on the quizzes because they are based on the readings. The only thing I didn't really like was that he did swear a lot during his lectures. I just personally do not like that language but other than that he was a good teacher.
Ripper is great! He's funny, approachable, and helpful. His class is easy so long as you show up, take enough notes, and read the book. Quizzes are very small. Grade is mostly based off of notetaking and analysis. He knows that most students are taking a history class for the credit, so makes it enjoyable and interesting and not hard. I recommend!
Funny, laid-back, loves his students, opinionated, and works to make his lectures easy to understand. Lots of reading involved, but the tests are a breeze. Has one big writing assignment based entirely on in-class notes and an optional one with fun analysis. Highly recommend whether you like history or not. He's REALLY nice even outside of class!
This was one of my hardest classes but I loved it. We had to read a lot but as long as you participate and do the work you can pass. I learned a great deal from this class and hope to take this professor in the future again.
Loved his lectures. I'm just not a good writer so I struggled a bit. Being a CS major really didn't help me there.
I am taking his online class. The design of the class is rather brutal, with there being only 4 assignments. Because of this, there is absolutely no room for error. However, he often does not answer important questions until due dates have passed. Other than that, at least he is a good writer. And yes, he is the author of the textbook.
Jason is one of the best teachers Ive ever had. Highly recommend him to anyone.
Amazing professor and course. The entire course literally had 4 quizzes and 4 essays, and that's it (although it does mean don't mess up). Very easy grader and kind guy. I would definitely take his course any day and recommend it to anyone. Just be decent in your writing and you're good.
The course was okay, theres only 4 assignments which makes it very hard to keep a good grade, especially when the instructions are unclear.
super nice and helpful, gives great feedback :) only reason I wouldn't take class again, is because the subject is kinda blah to me
Its literally an English class. He makes you read pages from a history book that he wrote, and then you write papers on it. You are just graded on how well you can write. Each assignment you have to write a total of six pages about the chapters or the highest grade you'll receive on the assignment is a C.
It is an English class rebranded, it contains far too much writing to be one that I would ever want to take again. If it wasn't required for my degree I would drop it so fast.
Professor Ripper is excellent. He is super interesting, fun, offers great feedback, and is very clear in assignments. His assignments are creative and sometimes student led. He teaches you the facts in history but also to analyze them with what we know. Highly recommend this professor!
He is the author of the book that he uses in class. There were only 4 papers during the coursework but you really need to work hard on it. He doesn't offer extra credits in case you didn't do well in one of the homework.
Jason is a very fun teacher! There are weekly lectures in person but they are not mandatory, very few assignments besides weekly quizzes on readings (super easy), READ THE BOOK! It helps a lot! He is very understanding and open to discussions. Would take him again in a heartbeat!
For the online class, you get around 3 chaoters from the book, 4-5 articles and 3 one hour long videos in which you have to note the most important people and events and include it in a “mini essay.” its all self work and your essay us based off a question you came up with.
His class was all about reading from his history book, watching a few hour long documentaries and then asking a question and writing three 7 page "essays". He didn't really have a teaching style since he didn't really teach he just kind of told us we had to read and answer questions.
Very helpful & quick to respond to questions. Flexible and understanding. Passionate about his work.
He talks about religion in class a lot in a way that I feel is disrespectful, so I don't like attending class. His online portion is decent, pretty easy with a weekly quiz and two writing assignments for the year. He grades fairly and work is straight forward. Do the readings and you'll be fine.
you read from the history textbook he wrote - it's only a few chapters long and feels like a book so it's not bad. there are 3 discussions in the whole class. you have to answer 5 people, having 7 pages worth of writing at minimum for each discussion. as long as you read and manage your time this class isn't too hard, just heavy on writing.
Mr. Ripper has been the best professor I have ever had. He is understanding, quick to respond and Mr. Ripper wants you to pass his class. He made me want to learn more about History. Take his class!!
I would recommend watching a Crash Course/Heimler's History video before doing the readings so that the material makes more sense, as the documentaries and especially his book explain things in a very convoluted way. My main problem with him is the complete lack of feedback. There was no rubric provided for the essays and no constructive criticism.
I loved his class, he was fun to listen to and was passionate about history, which helps avoid a monotonous and boring class. The workload was not heavy, we had three main assignments and quizzes based on one textbook chapter a week. The reading was roughly 10-15 pages, and we had at least a month or more for writing assignments.
While Ripper's class was enjoyable, he seemingly expects students to memorize the material and do extra work without instruction. This is balanced out by how friendly and forgiving he is, but students will still be making shots in the dark for the first few assignments. I'd easily take him again but I'm reluctant to recommend him to others.
Pretty entertaining class! Really liked the professor and the lectures but the lack of rubric made the essays harder than they would've been if a rubric had been provided.
Hated reading a 15+page chapter a week but he has a good standard for the learning of his students. I would hate the lectures if he wasn't funny, but I stick around for the jokes. There were three big writing assignments at the end but he's not a harsh grader. I heard from a friend online is a lot worse though.
I would recommend Jason! He is funny, chill, and easy to communicate with. The class only has 3 graded discussion boards (where you respond to three people with a minimum of 500 words), 2 chapters a week (around 30 pages), and one 10-question quiz a week. It did kinda suck reading over the weekend but it is a very manageable class!
While there is little interaction with the professor, he provided excellent learning resources. The assignments require a lot of effort, but you will retain what you have learned. Because of his assignments, I can remember history that I learned over a month and a half ago. I would highly recommend this professor for an online class.
I have taken 4 classes with Jason and would take all my classes through him if I could.
He assigns many resources you'll have to read and watch, which can be very time-consuming if you're a slow reader. His exams (there are 3) are an open discussion board based on the reading that includes a LOTT of writing, at least 7 double-spaced pages for a C. I wrote around 22 on average and he gave me a 105/100 (an A). No other homework tho
The professor made history engaging with his humorous lectures. Though the workload was heavy on reading and writing, unstuck study was a lifesaver for boosting my study efficiency. Overall, it was a worthwhile challenge that helped me retain the content.
Weird/unclear structure. Syllabus didn't do a good job at explaining what is expected of students. Assigned readings and videos were very lengthy. Class had 3 topic assignments/exams that consisted of writing minimum 7 pages of responses for a C grade. Would be horrible for a slow reader or note-taker. Nice professor, just not the class for me.
I hardly ever attended class. This was not a problem, as I was able to pour over the required history textbook and learn the material required for the online quizzes. When I was awake early enough for lecture, he is very personable and funny. Engaging lessons. The final was an open-ended history report, on whatever subject you like.
Ripper wrote his own book for the class, and it was pretty interesting. The work was clear enough and he cares about the quality of the work. Shout-out to him!
LOTS of reading and writing but if you do the reading you'll be fine. Also, a funny teacher. Once you understand the assignments, they're easy, just a lot of work. Will be taking again for History&147.
Very simple class. Only 4 large assignments based off assigned readings and videos. Easy to pass and late work accepted any time.
He had accused me of AI multiple times in my work, despite me giving him evidence of my legitimacy as well as me having witnesses to my original work. He did not use my preferred name multiple times, despite me using it in my emails to him. I overall did not enjoy his class, and I am an avid reader of history.
While there is a TON of work in the class of reading and taking notes. I took two history classes with Ripper, and the assignments themselves are easy; they just take a while to do. You have lots of reading and note-taking to do, so don't take this class if you have a busy schedule. Great professor overall, and he's pretty funny too.
Prof. Ripper's HIST 103 class is fun and there isn't a lot of work, which is what I like for history courses in general. There are discussion replies due each week (500-600 words) and a weekly quiz. Basically the rest of the time is free. Just make sure you do all the readings!
Overall this history with Professor Ripper was great. There is only 4 big assignments the whole quarter and they are fairly simple. I highly recommend out of all the readings required to pay extra attention when reading his textbook because it will come in handy for most topics.
There's only 4 “essays” graded throughout the whole quarter. Really easy, you read his book like 3 chapters per unit, watch like 2 hours of documentaries, then respond to 4 questions with a 1-2 page “essay” for each question. Tbh I didn't watch any of the documentaries, the essay is just to show you understood what his book is about.
