Great teacher! Has a passion for Anthropology/history and that really comes off during his lectures. Tests were all take-home and although they were tedious but necessary materials to use later in the semester. Not to mention easy on the eyes ;)
Fun, laid back guy with a great sense of humor. Knows his stuff and makes the class understandable. Can be tough at times but if you keep up its a fairly easy A.
Jason is a good teacher who is laid back and easy to get along with. His tests are take home and easy to do if you pay attention in class. Jason has a wide knowledge of this subject and can answer any question you have. I suggest his call to the fullest.
Good teacher. Knows his stuff. He isn't boring. Tests are very thorough and somewhat difficult. His class is an excellent general ed that everyone would benefit from taking. With a bit of effort I got an A in this class.
I had little interest in this subject before the class but Jason made me change my major to anthropology because this class was so interesting. I learned more in this class than any other I've ever had. Do readings, fill out study questions, show up to class and its an easy easy A.
Fabulous teacher! Take him for your gen ed if you get the chance. He is hilarious, passionate and overall adorable. One of my favorite teachers at Missouri State!
Jason is an awesome professor. He is super interesting and you don't even have to take tests in his class. Do not confuse this class for a blow off class though because there is a good amount of work and if you fall behind it would be very difficult to catch back up.
No book needed, and super easy. Just keep up on readings so you are not blindsided by quizes (but he does cover the subject in class).
This instructor is the most engaging general education teacher I have had. He does an awesome job making the readings and discussions worth doing. I had little interest in the subject previously but this class and professor does a great job of stimulating interest and demonstrating the subject's importance and relevance. Would take again.
Ton of reading. Go to class to make sure you get the answers to the discussion questions. You can use them on the final. Super easy points. Not my favorite class. Group project sucks. No time in class to get together.
Jason has an obsession with people being on Facebook and texting during class. There is a lot of reading and some of the articles are real beasts. Go to class to get the answers. His grading can be inconsistent, but he clearly knows what he's talking about and enjoys sharing his knowledge. There aren't many points possible so keep up with stuff.
ENROLL INTO HIS CLASS NOW!!! He's an awesome teacher and is very respectable and understanding. He's real. Not a quack. One of my favorite teachers ever. Do what is expected and there should be no reason you shouldn't get an A.
He is very unorganized. He talks too much. He gets off topic a lot. A little snappy and gets irritated very easily. Really boring class. Not very helpful.
He is very good looking and is a very easy class. I had him for intro and went to class everyday. It was one of the easiest A's all semester! I say take his class if it is an option!
He changed his course a lot since 2012. His class is easy, and he'll make an effort if you will!
Jason is such a considerate professor. He's very knowledgeable and articulate. He took the class seriously and was very helpful. At the beginning of the course, we were assigned reading with worksheets but changed it to online quizzes instead. He doesn't take attendance, but shows culture videos he uses for questions in tests. Highly recommend!
Difficult homework everyday, grades without telling what you did right or wrong, and requires an hour-long group presentation at the end of the semester-students must individually present for about 8 minutes.
Jason changed my life. I had no idea that I would choose anthropology as my major until I took his class. He's super knowledgeable about anthropology and he's incredibly helpful. There is a lot of reading in his class but I found most of it interesting. I definitely recommend taking Jason's class.
Super nice guy and not bad to look at either! Lots of reading and the quizzes are hard sometimes. He takes attendance, so you have to go to class or you'll lose points.
Not a difficult class, but you definitely need to keep up on the work. You lose 2 points for every class you miss and there are usually two quizzes per week. Midterm and final are online and open-note. The only reason I didn't get an A is because I slacked off. Do the work and you won't have to exert much effort to get an A.
Jason was a great professor. You could tell he really cared about the material. Attendance is important though (you lose points if you don't go to class) and some of the online quizzes were tricky, but if you pay attention in class and actually do the readings, you'll be fine. Class participation isn't required.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. He is very fair and will help you out whenever needed. His class is very easy to pass if you pay at least SOME attention.
Jason, to me, is an example of what a good teacher should be. He's personable, but not personal, passionate, lectures are exciting, reading is informative (if dense), and everything required of the student is clear and streamlined. He detracts some points for absences and the online chapter quizzes can be difficult, but overall: great experience.
Mr. Shepard was very unorganized. He did give us extra credit we he missed up on a quiz; however, it made the class confusing. I had an A in the class until the final project. I did the paper, and presented very well, following the rubric to a "t". For some reason, he decides to give me a D on my final project and I end up with a B+.
Pretty good class. Jason is laid back and a very engaging lecturer. Expect one book and a paper during the first half of the semester, and a group project at the end. Read the assignments, take the quizzes, and show up to class and you'll do great. The subject is fairly interesting (I took it as a gen-ed).
Jason. We can use his first name. He's super chill. I really enjoyed every lecture. He has degrees in history, anthro, Latin American Studies and is getting one in public health. Show up to class so you don't get points deducted. Study the answersquestions for the online quizzes. The same questions appear on the final.
Class consists of weekly quizzes. Do the readings and you will be fine. Also, has two papers, one over a book he has you read, and the other goes along with the group project he assigns second part of the semester. Make sure to attend class, he does take off points for skipping class. A midterm and final are the only tests, overall not a bad class.
One of the best professors I've had so far, very excited to share his knowledge with you. Other than the midterm and final there are weekly quizes, papers over chapters of a book every few weeks, and a final project in the last weeks of the semester. Go to class, take notes, read and you'll be fine.
Jason is a nice guy, and wants people to succeed. But he also is liked for his extra credit and curved grades. He expresses multiple times in class to "remember this when you evaluate me", which to me didn't seem right. His class is the first class I have ever had trouble understanding how he grades and been graded harshly on simple projects.
Tests are hard and there is a 50 min group presentation. You get points taken off every time you miss classes
Jason was a good professor but if you don't like reading don't take this class. There are small reading tests every week, you have papers over each chapter in a book he assigns and there is a 50 minute group presentation at the end of the semester. He also takes off 5 pts for every class you miss. He does offer extra credit though.
No textbook, but you have to do chapter report on each chapter of the book called "The Wayfinders" which is ridiculously boring. 3 page outline & two essay paragraphs per cahpter. He's extremely unorganized and is slow at grading. Good luck on the tests because at least half of the questions are never discussed in class or the book. Doesn't shower.
I loved Jason's class! He is a very laid back person and I learned a lot from him, however his organization is at a minimum and he doesn't like to answer his email very often. If you like Anthro, you will learn a lot from him because he is very passionate about his profession, but it won't be an easy A.
Overall Jason Is a good teacher to take show up to class to because if not he will take 5 ppints from u everyone u miss he gives a lot of extra credit and the tests are online easy A
He is great! Show up or you will lose points, do the papers on time and do the extra credit and you will be golden!
Jason was the best college professor I have ever had. His class is very fun to attend and he is very knowledgable on the subject. He inspired me to become an anthropologist.
Jason is a great professor. He is incredibly smart and makes lectures very entertaining. This class was very hard and you have to do the readings to do well, but the class in so interesting. Only a mid term and final. One group project, attendance is a must he takes 5 points each day you miss, readings are assigned before every class.
class was okay but did not like jason. you don't get any class skips and he takes 5 points off for every class you miss which is the equivalent of a quiz grade for him. also lectures are pretty pointless. everything you learn is in articles posted on Bb that he quizzes over. also the tests are kind of hard compared to the rest of the class
While there's only one chapter book that you need as a "text book," he quizzes over a lot of different articles he finds. Test and quizzes are all online but are "choose all that apply" or true/false - kinda trick questions. 7 mandatory papers/essays Lectures are extemporaneous with no powerpoints or notes. Hope you're good at taking them.
Jason is a phenomenal teacher. He's honestly one of my favorites and has made me love anthropology. His lectures are fascinating and full of energy, and all the readings are really interesting. Everything is very clear and straightforward. Definitely a teacher and class that I would take again. Highly recommend him.
Very chill guy. Lectures are interesting and discussion based. The only bad thing about him is that he is a tough grader so make sure your papers are exactly what he asked for.
He is really passionate about his work so that makes the class interesting. However, there are a ton of small quizzes that are kind of difficult and you have to read articles to be able to complete them. The class really makes you think and there is no outside homework except for a project at the end. Each time you miss a class, he takes 5 pts off
Jason was an amazing teacher! Prepare for multiple reading assignments a week with a follow up quiz on each. Attendance is a big part of your grade. His lectures are long but very engaging and he likes to hear your opinions and questions. I got a B because I quit reading the material, but it is all there. Honestly considered switching major to ANT.
GREAT! Mr Shepard is one of my favorite teachers ever. He is very nice and understanding and his lectures are informing and well said. He has encouraged me to major in Anthropology.
Jason is probably the best professor I've ever had. He's understanding, he's incredibly knowledgeable and seems to genuinely care about his students. There is a short article and quiz due every class period, but I found them easy and interesting. He ends every class by saying 'you all are looking particularly lovely today', which I adore. 10/10.
He is a great lecturer, but his homework is misleading, and there aren't very many opportunities for points. Thankfully, he offers extra credit, but it is hard-earned extra credit. This is not an easy A class, but it is a very good class for anyone serious about learning the material. Shepard is also an actual anthropologist and has experience.
Mandatory attendance, gives tons of extra credit, few online quizzes a week-pretty easy, no tests besides online midterm and final, interesting to listen to, would definitely recommend
Overall, I would recommend taking this class only If you're interested in Anthropology. Otherwise, If your looking for an easy Gen ed to take, like how I was, this isn't the class for you. Definitely isn't an easy A, however, he does give extra credit. You get points taken if you skip his class, and he gives a good amount of homework.
If you don't attend class you get 5 points taken off every time you miss. This quickly adds up. Jason does not treat this class like a 100 level elective, he treats it like an upper level course. This is the farthest thing from an "easy A" unless you go to every single class and do all of the extra credit papers. Would not ever take again.
Pretty hard class, don't take unless really interested in anthropology. Makes you do a group project that you have to present in front of the class at the end of the semester and write a research paper. Tedious.
"Jason" as he has his student call him, is brilliant and has a relaxed personality. His class policies- not so much. No electronics even laptops, deducts points for missing class/tardiness. He is a brutal grader. Gives E/C opportunity but you will really have to work to get it.
DO NOT DO IT. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Jason means well and is a very smart man, but the class is entirely to difficult for it to only be level 100. There is no textbook (except for a novel you have to write a minimum 6 page paper over), no power points, no lecture outline. Just him speaking. The extra credit is not even worth the hassle.
NOT an easy A. No text book. Required readings on BB. Lots of quizzes over the reading but not for many points so if you don't do well, grade suffers. Lectures drag and all over the place.
He's a great teacher! It is a lecture heavy class. There's reading and online quizzes that is most of the point for the class. There is a paper and a group project. He docks five points for every class you miss. Jason makes the classes interesting! The lectures are not boring at all. However, he gives out a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
Jason is very passionate about the topic. You have online readings with quizzes, but the time for the quiz is unlimited and you can use the reading while taking it. You need to read the book assigned for the paper, and there is one group project. You need to go to class, but he offers lots of extra credit for missed classes or missed quiz points
Overall a decent guy, my favorite part is he says "I love ya guys" all the time. Great class for a GPA boost. Class is mainly discussion, reading quizzes are simple, and one group project at the end of the semester.
Jason is an awesome teacher and very knowledgeable, however, his tests really suck and for this class there is only a midterm and final with some smaller assignments on the side. You really have to know the material to get an A.
He's definitely the best professor I've had this semester. I highly recommend him and this class. I learned a lot and wish I could take more classes with him.
Love listening to Jason. You have to go to every class or you'll lose points, and there are weekly reading quizzes. 1500 word book report due at midterm-- stressful, but if you do it half decent, you'll get full credit. Tests are online, fairly difficult. Honestly, the class was pretty easy to get an A in, but quite a lot of work at some points.
Show up to every class and write down what he says. Lots of Extra Credit but its hard to do. Lots of reading.
Loved listening to lectures, interesting/funny. He often got sidetracked & didn't really cover the material he asked us to know for the midterm/final (only 2 tests but were difficult). Online quizzes over reading weekly, not easy. TAs grade a paper worth lots of points - check over their work. Takes away 5 pts each absence. Nice guy, but strict.
Really cool and laid back professor. He uses online reading assignments and quizzes. He does two tests, one paper, and one presentation but he grades very easily. Just show up and do all of the easy assignments! He deducts 5 points from overall grade for every absence, it can really tank a grade at the end of the year.
Very difficult class for an elective. Would not recommend.
Jason is one of the best Gen Ed teachers I have had yet. Yes, he does talk for a while but he cracks jokes every now and then to lighten the mood. I took this class as a Gen Ed requirement and he made me look forward to it. Of course, there is a lot of work involved, but you can't expect to get an "A" without working hard on your classwork.
Do not take this class! Homework consumed up all of my time during the semester with his weekly readings. Your grade will suffer even if you complete the readings and hour long documentary's because they are followed by his tricky online quizzes. He only takes away points for missing the class and gives none for showing up. Not a 100 difficulty!
I loved this class, I took it online. Theres many weekly quizzes, about the assigned readings, you actually have to read them to do well but they're are really interesting! There's only a midterm and final, they're pretty tough but if you've done the work you should do well. If you're not wanting to try at all then this course prob isn't for you.
Would never take him ever again. His weekly quizzes are nearly impossible to get 100% on, they have large readings attached to them. His course is too much work for a Gen Ed class. He doesn't have any Power Point slides to take notes off of. His lecturing is just him going off about stories and are hard to figure out how it ties into the lesson.
Lots of reading. Lectures are hard to follow. Wade Davis paper that is ridiculous. Weekly quizzes that have readings are nearly impossible to get 100% on. Attendance is taken, possibly the only thing that saved my grade. Goes on about stories that you won't be tested on. Big waste of time. GPA killer. Group presentation. Tough grader, no mercy.
Jason is a nice dude but the class is not great. Super long lectures that I did not get much out of. Go to class or you'll get 5 points taken off for every absence. You'll get 10-12 quizzes due every other Tuesday which does not sound like a lot with all that time but they're awful. They take up so much time, I personally don't recommend this class
A HORRIBLE professor do not take. Literally sucks, I though this was gonna be a simple gen ed. nope extremely hard.
His class is WAY too hard for a gen ed. The amount of reading required is excessive and ridiculous. He gives interesting lectures but you have to try really hard to get an A. There's an average of about 150-200 pages of reading for every unit and at least ten quizzes due every other week. Don't take. There are far better professors for this.
Jason is unprofessional. He is a huge flirt and doesn't stick to the course material. Do not be surprised if he tries to win your favor by regaling you with personal stories as opposed to being an effective instructor.
You take many, many, many quizzes that are not worded the best. Lets just say I am a straight A student, until his class and got a C. If you are not interested in Anthropology then I would not take this class at all. If you have to take it, do online because the lectures are pointless.
Jason is by far one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He is literally one of the reasons I decided to major in Anthropology. His lectures are interesting, and the stories he tells really help you understand the topics. I would definitely recommend!
Jason Shepard is a pretty cool dude but there is SO much reading involved in this class. attendance matters so you have to go but its pointless cause he gets off topic and just rambles the whole time. you pretty much teach yourself thru readings and the 10 quizzes due every other week. also a huge paper and huge group project due at the end
I love him as a person and his lectures are super interesting, however there was much more homework than I expected for a class like this.
Go to his lectures because he takes points for them, but you really won't learn anything during them because he gets off topic easy. I liked him as a person but I did not like the way he "taught". He assigns a lot of homework and his quizzes are pretty tough. I really do not feel that I learned very much during this course.
Jason is a great guy, however, not a great teacher. Gets off topic constantly and assigns roughly 10 quizzes every other week with a crap load of reading. One 6 page paper and a group project followed with a paper. NOT WORTH IT. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Jason is so funny. His lectures are literally the best. He requires a lot of reading, but most of the material can be found on quizlet and the readings are actually very interesting. Show up to class because he takes attendance.
Professor's quizzes are extremely difficult and almost impossible to pass. The exams are even more difficult. They are based off of all of the quiz questions, so do not bother completing the study guide he gives you. 10-15 quizzes each week. Grammar is usually incorrect and he takes forever to email back. I would never take a class from him again.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take Jason's classes. He is a cool guy but wildly unpredictable as a professor . Changes to assignments set forth in the syllabus with no warning and his tests are extremely hard. I ACTUALLY did better on the ACT than I have so far on Jason's tests. If I could redo my life the only change I'd make is not taking this class.
I loved this class. There are weekly quizzes that are a lot of reading but overall not that difficult. Jason is really caring and willing to help if you put in the effort. This has been my favorite class at Missouri State so far. I am lazy, and do not like doing a ton of homework but if you stay on top of this class it really isn't too bad.
It is all busy work. You are given a bunch of work to do, approx 3 lectures (that are not his own, theyre literally someone else), sometimes documentaries that are a waste of time, about 10 readings and then 10 quizzes with those readings. Everything is due Sunday night. Midterm and final are cumulative and are 100 questions.
This class is an online option and I would recommend. There is a lot of information given at once, but it is completely manageable. If you read the text that is provided you are guaranteed an A on the quiz/homework. He is really easy to get ahold of as well and gives good feedback.
Jason is a great professor and has some of the most interesting lectures which are the best part of this class by far. There is a required textbook but it is a free online download. All assignments and exams are online, open-book/note, and multiple choice. There is a good amount of reading required for the course but it didn't feel like work to me.
Pretty good professor everything was mainly online it was just about setting time to get the things done. Class wasn't that difficult but the amount of work that we had to do per week made it seem like it was. One week we were expected to do 15 quizzes, discussion board, and a midterm. Again, everything is online but still it was a lot.
Very much a love him or hate type of professor. Lots of reading and the first tests are fairly difficult. He does provide study guides and usually will give feedback on missed questions. Lectures are entertaining, but he can easily get off track however this usually doesn't hurt anything. One final essay at the end, it is fairly simple though.
I absolutely loved his world cultures class. I consider myself a very open-minded person and this class has further stretched my opinion of the world (in a good way). I genuinely think Ill carry and use the information I learned in this class throughout my life. He is a really funny guy and if you do you homework you will absolutely be fine.
Class is VERY boring because all class time is lecture. BUT all the work is online, 7ish quizzes and Packback due every two weeks which is plenty of time to get them done (not on Respondus so Quizlet is your BFF). TONS of EC like literally could have 140% in this class.
It's a blended course so everything is online. Lots of reading and there are quizzes assigned to them. They are easy and you can find the answers online. His lectures are pretty boring but he does take points for attendance. I never paid attention in class. He does offer lots of extra credit opportunities though. Overall easy class for GenED
One of my favorite classes I have ever taken. Genuinely changed my outlook on a lot of things and my view of the world as a whole. Jason is such an interesting guy which makes his lectures entertaining and worthwhile. Class is very easy if you just put in a little work and turn assignments in.
This class is an easy A that is full of busy work. The lectures are mandatory for 5 points each. 10-15 quizzes on blackboard each week that are on quizlet, no lockdown. Entertaining nice guy. Offers some extra credit.
Entire class material is taking online quizzes over articles and videos you're supposed to read. When actually in class he just tells stories about his personal experiences which can be quite interesting but only remotely relate to the class. He is very kind and loving and will help you if you are struggling. 10/10
Be prepared to do a lot of reading on your own time. He is fun to listen to and I enjoyed his class, however the disorganization at the end of the semester really stressed me and others out. I will say though that he gives extra credit opportunities and is very understanding about deadlines and will give extensions if your talk with him openly.
I don't mind Shepard. He seems like a cool guy, but I absolutely hated his class. I would never come to class if attendance wasn't graded. All he does is talk to himself for an hour and a half, twice a week. There is zero in-class activity and zero benefit to actually going. I play on my phone, same as the rest of the class.
I took Shepard's online world culture class. It is easy for a gen ed because there are a lot of quizlets to take all the quizzes for it. If I did do all the expected work and readings without the quizlets it would take hours for sure. He does allow late quizzes and extra credit. The quizzes are stupid and are just busy work half the time.
If you don't enjoy anthropology or history his lectures can be boring and disorganized, but if you do it can be really enjoyable. There were a lot of assignments to do, but they are all online and are really easy and can be done at any point before they are due. He is also very understanding and willing to discuss issues you may have with the class
I took this class as an in-person lecture but the very first week of classes he didn't have us come to lecture (he was sick) and so after that I didn't go to class for the entire semester. Still passed the class though lol. There was a ton of busy work and quizzes that didn't really help me on the exams at all.
This class gave twice as much homework as any other class that semester, and I was taking 18 credits. Jason seems like an alright guy. His lectures are fairly well organized, but he adds so much of his own opinion and politics. Besides that, this class isn't really about world cultures; it's an introduction to anthropology. Take at your own risk.
I really like this class and the Jason is extremely really nice. His stories he shares if really funny. There is a lot of reading and quizzes but its really simple. There is a lot of reading and videos to watch with this course. You have two weeks to do a unit and there are 7 units plus 2 exams which you will have 3 hours to take.
There was a ridiculous amount of work for an 8 week class. Even if the class was a full 16 weeks, it would still be too much work. The only reason I was able to finish it all and get a good grade was because most of it was on quizlet. Quizzes after every article/textbook chapter. About 15-20 readings and quizzes for each reading every week.
I loved ANT 100 with Prof. Shepard. The content was presented very objectively and he made sure to touch on different points of view for just about everything discussed. When I went to him one-on-one with an inclusivity concern he heard me out and adjusted his next lecture to reflect such. Keeps the subject interesting and has good articles.
Really easy and fun class. Would recommend!
I took this class online and it was one of the easiest classes I have taken. He opens up everything so you can get it done when you want. You are graded on assignments all that are 10 points and you just comment on the things you are reading to get the points. Your tests are 100 points and 100 questions, open note, 120 minutes.
This professor is a great professor. Majority of your work is online, but he lectures every dat and take attendance points as well. He has all of his work open and due dates posted, so all you have to do is show top and turn your assignments in on time .
Professor Shepard's course covers a lot of ground, but with unstuckstudy and the free textbook, you can stay on top of the readings and quizzes. He's engaging in lecture, and attendance is mandatory, so it's worth going.
Every class is a lecture, but they are very interesting, and I've never been bored. My only complaint would be the amount of reading. There are at least 25 documents that you need to read and comment on for each of the four tests that are sometimes long. However, they do cushion your grade, as they are easy points. Would definitely recommend!
The only reason I wouldn't give Jason a 5 is because his tests are a bit odd. Part-way through the semester he switched from an entirely true/false and added some short answers. He is very funny. I will caution this is a reading-heavy class and readings are worth 10 points each. There are only unit deadlines so you have to stay sharp.
Class was super simple. His lectures were sometimes disengaging and hard to follow. You must time manage if you don't you will not do good. There is a lot of reading and the tests are pretty difficult if you don't read. However the class while hard was fun.
