He actually makes class fun. Not only does he get the lesson/point across, he makes sure you understand it. Environment is casual and very laid back, yet still respectful. I highly recommend him.

Had a hard time coming back to school and Dr. Spangler made the transition much easier for me. I excelled in his class beyond what I thought was possible. He encouraged me and brought out my potential. He is very laid back, but expects you to do the work required. I hope to have more professors like him on my road to a higher education.

Before taking his class,it was very hard for me to understand a lot of things. He clarified so many parts of the English language for me. It was hard work, but it was definitely well worth it. All you have to do is keep up with the work and pay attention in class.

He is understanging. you can actually tell that he is one of the few professor that actually car about their students and not just a paycheck. Very insightful and articulate. Assignments seem more like those you'd expect in an English class and the text used was a little annoying at times. But if you like discussing, reading, watching, and writing about movies, this class is a must.

He's good, and he knows it. He's knowledgeable, and has a super massive vocab so if nothing else you'll use bigger words. A LOT of essays but he's fair with grading and is always available and willing when you need the help. I would highly suggest taking him.

Great dude. Old-school so he definitely picks on those attached to their phones. He gives a lot of helpful feedback on essays. Must have rough draft for peer evals or your essays drops a letter grade. Keep up on the research paper because it is very hard to BS it last minute. You definitely learn how to MLA and research. Pick credible sources.

Summer was my first time ever going to college so I wasn't sure what to expect. Dr. Spangler was not only a good teacher not very helpful as well. If your one of those people that is attached to their phone I wouldn't suggest Dr. Spangler as your teacher. If you plan to work hard and want to learn He is the teacher for you!!!

If you take his class be prepared to do journal entries, and take quizzes on your film every week. If you do the work, you'll pass with no problem. Take him! Spangler's really funny and a fair grader. Be sure to screen the films, because there are weekly quizzes. You do need to buy the textbook. Overall he's very fair and wants you to get something out of the class. He's very helpful, and cute to boot.

I thought taking this class online would have made my life easier not having to be in classroom, but I was definitely wrong. Although Dr. Spangler was very helpful & a great Professor, I wouldn't recommend taking his course online, unless you're willing to really work for your grade. Spangler's classes are by far the best English classes I have taken. I really enjoy that he can keep us entertained while teaching his material. He busts joke out of nowhere and you are guaranteed to laugh at least once. His essays are straight forward and the grading is a bit tough, yet he tries to work with you if you have any questions.

He is pretty hard on grading. I thought I was going to fail at first. However, he is an extraordinary teacher. Show up and you will learn a ton from him. He is very funny. If he grades hard, it's because he wants you to learn. I'm glad I took this class. What he taught me was worth the C I got.

I took Spangler for 60A, 60B, and 1A. I honestly would follow him in English 50 and 1B if he thought it! He's easy, funny, and is their for his students. Take his class, you won't be disappointed!

Spangler's a funny, chill guy and as a result the class is really enjoyable. It's easy, but that doesn't mean you can do nothing and pass. There are quizzes every week so you need to do the reading, watch the movies, and PAY ATTENTION to them. If you're interested in film at all it'll be a good experience. Spangler is a professor that makes you want to take all his classes. A really laid-back & funny guy but he does expect you to do the work. He is great at analyzing & making you think deeply about films. Professor Spangler is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. This is the second class I have taken with him and I enjoyed it once again. He is hilarious, helpful, and definitely knows his stuff! I highly recommend him! All of the films were great, just make sure to complete all of the reading for the weekly quizzes.

I've taken both of his film classes and he's great! He's really laidback and funny, which might trick you into thinking he doesn't expect much but you'd be wrong. You gotta actually read, watch the movie, and do the 2 essays he assigns. I'd definitely take more classes with him if I could tbh!

Professor Spangler is fantastic! Super hilarious, which makes lectures not bad at all. There's about 4 essays due, but he goes over There's prompt and answers any questions you might have. Always available through email and office hours if you might need more help. Pop quizzes are EC. Doesn't take late work, and online he is important! Great prof!

This class is very quiz heavy. He gives out a quiz once a week and they are crucial in order for you to pass. Just make sure you read and you'll be fine. There are 2 film analysis essays which are pretty fun if your'e a film major. Keep all of the quizzes so you can study for the final. Also; the final has 2 essay questions. I highly recommend.

This is the best professor I've taken at RCC. Dr Spangler is hilarious. I took this class in the winter so the workload was heavy. His assignments help you so it's not just busy work. Dr. Spanglers one of my all time favorite professors, and if you love cinema, youll enjoy his FST classes. His lectures are a hilarious combination of movie talk, Dad jokes, and self-deprecating humor. Hes laid back, but students who underestimate his tests & essays often do poorly on both. HW is watching films, film analysis, and reading.

The class was really insightful and very informative. Spangler made it really enjoyable to learn about film. Be very aware that there is no homework besides two essays so the grade relies heavily on tests and the final so pay attention to the lectures and read the book.

Professor Spangler is amazing and very caring. There are optional zoom meetings to talk about the film we had to watch for the week. Weekly discussions/assignments worth the maximum of 20 points and weekly tests on the chapter. We had 2 essays analyzing a particular scene in a film & the final was the same format. Overall, he's charismatic & funny.

Took this class during Covid. This class is great if you already have an interest in filmmaking. Well-paced coursework, provides great feedback on essays and discussions. Homework is straightforward and clear-cut. Would highly recommend it!

I learned a lot from his lectures and assignments. be ready to read and research in his class. Workload isn't too heavy if you stay on top of it. The class is a lot more fun and easier if you interact/joke with him. He is helpful and is there to help support the students so use him as a resource. Dr. Spangler is certainly my personal favorite teacher. He is one of the only writing instructors that I have ever felt genuinely improved by. His lectures are wonderful, assignments inspire critical thought and encourage students to communicate, and sense of humor is on point. This professor is the only reason I still come to campus on hard days.

This class was pretty difficult for a 1A. Other than the essays the assignments were very easy. There is a book you need and he will quiz you on it but only for extra credit. He does grade pretty harshly on essays. I'm not a fan of the way class goes only because I think we talk about a lot of unnecessary things but pretty okay class.

Dr. Spangler is great. Highly recommend taking his class. I took the 6 week winter course and it was easily manageable. All together there was 2 discussions, very easy weekly homework, very light reading, 3 essays and a final. Great feedback and seems like he genuinely wants you to succeed. Easy A and I really felt like my writing improved. 5/5

Spangler is probably the funniest teacher I've ever had. He is a great guy and helped me through my situation. I promise you will not regret taking his class. All quizzes are extra credit and the term is essentially based off of 3-4 papers. He is clear in his grading and gives the best feedback of any teacher I've had.

The only "negative" I have, is that I wish he did more lectures. He often had students rate and advise each other instead, which left me feeling like I wasn't learning anything. I struggled in my next ENG class because of this. However, you can tell this man truly cares about people. Get ready for the "dad jokes." Show him you care, & you'll pass.
