great teacher, very enthusiastic, you will love him
Most uninteresting class I have taken yet at El Camino. Has too much enthusiastic and it doesn't seem to be making the material any more interesting
He's a very awesome teacher! His notes are very helpful towards the quizzes and tests. He's very enthusiastic and willing to help.
helpful and friendly teacher. his notes and lectures make everything clear. i hardly used my books; waste of money. really study for the essay tests and t/f tests. he isn't hard unless you did not study. he makes the class interesting and fun.
This is a great class. He is very entusiastic and it makes a big difference in keeping the class interesting.
AWSOME teacher, REALLY enthusiastic and i learned sooo much. makes me really like history
Before, I hated everything about Mexico, because I didn't know about it. BUT, after I took Suarez's class about the Mexica, Cortez, and colonization of Virginia, and tenochtitlan, and american history, I literally became increasingly interested.
A Great Professor, really motivated to teach students how to succeed in history classes. Loved the material on history of MeXiCo. Real good Class for history majors.!
He is a wonderful professor. The only way you might not like this class is if you miss class a lot and don't listen to his lectures. You will learn a lot but he makes it fun.
The teaching style of Prof Suarez made it interesting to learn the matertial and helped to understand it. The methods he uses will help you on the tests as long as you show up to class and keep up with the notes.
he puts the notes on the internet. his tests are t/f and they are based on the notes.
HE IS VERY NICE & FRIENDLY. VERY HELPFULL. U CAN GET EASY A.
GREAT TEACHER .. VERY HELPFUL, BEST IVE COME UPON.
he is great. very easy. A+
very easy
Mr. Suarez is a great teacher, very enthusiastic lecture style. I already loved history and he makes one love it even more. The analysis paper that we do is cool too. He makes us write it early and then fix the errors as near to the end of the semester. I learn so much doing that paper.
His tests are true/false which is easy. Big assignment research paper. Lectures are soley his own. Textbook is not needed in class.
Good teacher. Save your money...you don't need the books because he has his own notes. Tests are T/F, 1 research paper. No homework. He cares about and wants to get to know his students. Really wants his students to do well and wants to make the class fun. He tries to make class interesting.
Great teacher. He makes history interesting. He is very helpful and clear about tests and essays. He is straight up honest with the students about exams and spills it out for you pretty nicely. Best history class ever! If you have to take a history class, pick one with him as your teacher.
What can i say, hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is so passionate and knowledgeable about his field. He makes learning more fun than you ever thought it could be. It was not about names and dates but about who and why? Absolutely fascinating man and fascinating class. The best history teacher at El Camino.
AWESOME teacher. History has always been a difficult subject for me as it is, so when the teacher sucks I feel hopeless. But Mr. Suarez is so enthusiastic and his lecture style holds your attention the entire time. He is very clear about what you need to know, it's only hard because history is never easy for me.
SUAREZ IS A VERY HELPFUL TEACHER. I RECOMMEND THIS CLASS TO EVERYONE. THERE IS ONE PROCESS PAPER DUE AROUND THE 10TH WEEK OF CLASS. THE TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE NOTES AND THEY ARE TRUE/FALSE QUESTIONS.
Very helpful, almost too much hehe. Good guy, actually cares about you comprehending his subject. Kind of a dork, but good natured and interested in making your life easier. ROCK ON SUAREZ!
Test are from his notes which you get from his websight. Text book optional (I didn't buy one). Really cares about your understanding and helps you a lot.
great guy. easy to pass the class.
His tests are true/false which is easy. Big assignment research paper. Lectures are soley his own. Textbook is not needed in class.
Perhaps the most enthusiastic of all professors @ El Camino. Very easy going, very straight forward, & somewhat lineant. His passion & views for history makes you want to get an A even more... keeping in mind it's not hard to get a "B"...
HEY IS A VERY INTERESTING TEACHER, TRIES TO US NO TO GET BORED. HE MAKE HIS CLASS KINDA FUN IN OTHER WORDS.

Suarez is great... If You Need A History Class Take It With Suarez!
Mr. Suarez courses are very interesting. This instructor actually puts in effort to make the class interesting and allows for topic discussions in class.Overall, if students study the course notes and read assigned materials, they will pass.It is evident through his teaching and attitude, that Mr. Suarez cares about student success! ^_^

He's one of the best professors I ever had. I had 7:45 am classes with him and I never fell asleep. He's the only history professor that actually makes interesting. I love him to death!
If you want to learn, J. Suarez's class is must to take. If you are going to transfer to a uni, he will teach you alot about properly creating a university level research paper. He is very helpful and will stimulate your interests. I have learned alot taking his class.
I usually struggle in history classes, but in this class I didn't. Mr. Suarez provided notes and actually enjoys teaching unlike some professors. So, recommend everyone to take any classes Mr. Suarez is teaching. You might actually learn something.
At first, i failed his 1st exam, but the rest I passed them with an A. The only thing he does give are alot of exams including essays. But he helps you by giving u a brief outline and gives clear notes. If you study for his texts youll be fine. Youll enjoy his class and his many stories he has to say. Funny ones too
Mr Suarez is a great teacher. He is very active during class and he really enjoys what he does. The notes are "spoon fed" to you, so if you study them, the tests are easy. He also has tons of great stories to tell. Everyday you get "downtime" to relax in the middle of a lecture. He reads this site too, so thanks Mr Suarez. I really enjoyed the clas
look at it this way he is just one of the best teachers i ever had. there is no way you can fail his class if you show up and read the notes listen to his lectures, just a great teacher the best way of teaching, you wont get an easy A either so work hard on remembering your history, i remember everything he tought in class MR Suarez JUST THE BEST!
Mr.Suarez is truly amazing.I have never enjoyed a history class until I met Mr.Suarez.He really cares about his students. If I had to take another history class,Mr.Suarez would be on my top list. And everyone, please disregard the comment below mines! That's absolutely untrue!Mr.Suarez rocks!
This was a great class only because of the professor. He takes a personal interest that is very rare. He is not easy so lazy bums should not take the class but if are serious about learning then this is your best bet. This was my favorite professor at ELCO. Very open minded and welcomes respectful criticism. His class is worth the time .
He is a good teacher, he gives you the notes and as long as you study from them you should get an A in his Quiz's. He is very helpful and interesting and cares about his students, a must take professor at ELCO.
Mr. Suarez is a very helpful teacher. He's like a father figure. When he talks, it's like You want to listen more and more. If you attend his class regularly and pay attention to his lectures you will pass his class with an A, guarenteed. He's very passionate about what he does. I would recommend to take Mr. Suarez for your History class.
anyone who doen't love prof suarez classes is probably a lazy wanna-be student. prof suarez exemplifies everything great about teaching; passion, interest in his students, and knowledge of the material taught. there is no more helpful instructor at ecc.
Suarez Is a great teacher, He is passionate and enthusiastic about his subject. He is more than willing to help you. He assigns a paper, and tests, over all the work load is light, you just have to study well for the tests.
Mr. Suarez is by far the most amazing teacher I've ever had. He is a wonderful teacher and mentor. He has great notes and is always willing to help his students out. When he speaks about history it is great. Never a boring moment, unless you are a lazy*** student. Study Study Study.
Not my favorite, because he wants everybody to speak in his class and im shy, but he explains really well, good and caring teacher and this class was actually very easy, 5 tests , study the notes and you will get an A like me!
A very good lecturer. He knows his subject well. He prepares excellent notes and outlines for the student. He offers good reading references. The notes and reading assignments work together. So read the notes before class and keep up with the assigned readings and you will never lose interest which means good knowledge and a good grade
the easiest, nicest, most helpful teacher. if ur not stupid, you should get an A.
WoW I never thought I'd enjoy history so much. Professor Suarez has great enthusiasm and is serious about "reaching" every student. Time flies even at 7:45 a.m. The course is challenging & fun. Review the notes he provides both before and after lectures and stay on top of the minimal reading and other assignments and you're sure to succeed.
I love this professors teaching tecnique! I wish all the teachers were like him. He makes History come alive. You actually want to show up to his class!!!
He's very enthusiastic about what he teaches. He's the best teacher that i've come across there.
Don't take his online class. I don't know how he is in the classroom, but from the looks of it, he isn't that great. His online class seems rushed and unorganized. The textbook is really annoying. The whole class is interpertation rather than facts. You may or may not like that aspect of history. His essay isn't all that fun either.
A MUST!!! All the notes, he made 'em. all u gotta do is just print it out n follow along. his tests r st8 from his own notes. teaches with a passion. his essay project is probably the hardest thing in that class. but even that isn't that hard. he's super willing to connect with you personally and help you out in any way he can. great teacher!!!!!!!
He's genuinely a nice person. My bro and I have taken classes (Hist 3 and 19, live) from him, and it's been nice having a prof that treats all of his students equally, regardless of their GPA. He actually cares, which for some may be a good/bad thing. I think of him as an uncle, so it's been a treat taking classes from him. So go, Mr. Suarez!
He is a great teacher!! I Loved his class, and learned so much from his lectures...
Mr. Suarez is a good teacher. He lectures with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. Lectures can get boring however when he just talks and talks and talks. No textbook is required. His tests are EXTREMELY EASY!! All of the questions are true/false!! The tests are the only thing he grades you on as well!
Online class was easy. Only graded midterm quiz. The rest was marked off as full points if you turned it in. Take this class!!!!
Professor Suarez is very passionate. And I truly admire his passion on History. He has a great depth of knowledge in history. I am a history major and I think he is the best history professor in ECC. If you pay attention and participate in his class, anyone can get an A. I really recommend him.
HARDEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!!! There's so much STUFF to learn!! I spent HOURS and HOURS studying for his tests. He still gets a happy face because I do admit I did learn a lot but MY BRAIN HURTS still!!!!!!
I had Suarez for Hist1A and it was the easiest class I've even taken. All the tests were true/false statements and the answers were pretty obvious if you studied. He mainly teaches off lectures notes, so you can get by without the book. Doesn't think dates are super important and focuses on other areas. Really wants you to do well and it shows!
COOL AND EASY TEACHER. TEST TRUE-FALSE QUESTIONS AND BASED ON ALL NOTES.LOTS TO STUDY BUT VERY EASY TRUST ME :). BEST TEACHER EVER . TAKE HIM AND DO NOT BUY THE BOOK NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE DID I OPEN IT.
great teacher, really cares, must study for tests
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I HAVE HAD. LEARNED LOADS IN THIS CLASS. LOVES DISSCUSSION WHICH HELPS. TEST STRAIGHT FROM THE NOTES. STRAIGHT. ALL TRUE/FALSE. HIGHLY RECOMMENED. I'LL PROBABLY TAKE HIM AGAIN. DON'T BE TARDY OR ABSENT.
One of the best instructor at El Camino. His class is one of my favorite. All you need to do is study the notes which are very easy to understand. Three true/false tests in all and he drops the lowest one. The only negative thing is the process paper, but then again, IT IS a history class!
Very helpful, very informative. Group discussion is used heavily in the class and a lot of information is taken in. I honestly wasn't too thrilled with the subject before attending, but he definitely made it worthwhile. Three T/F tests, drops the lowest score. Three group graded activities and a process paper. You won't regret taking the class.
Very good teacher. 2 objective tests (+1 optional, drops lowest grade), 2 in class essays. Seminars/discussions very interesting. Really gets you thinking. Would take him again. We never discussed the textbook reading. Fair grader.
Very helpful, he is available during his office hours if you are having trouble. We did not use the book at all, his test are based on his notes. You do not have to take many notes because he hands out his lectures. If you study the notes you?ll do well. I would recommend this class to anyone!
Mr. Suarez is very helpful & always responds to email ques fast. I took this class online & at first he seems unorganized & not clear but once you start doing the work & it becomes clear & easy. Also he gives so much time to complete assignments and easy grader. trust me if you want an easy A take this teacher!
really helpful..
Great teacher!!! will help you to get an A. He does care for his students and will do all he can to help. Also super clear in everything and very easy going, never boaring! Ohnestly best teacher i have ever had!
he is the best professor ever! if you don't like history, you will learn to love it or at least be interested. He helps his student succeed, if your having trouble passing his class just talk to him and he will give you tips on what to do to help you succeed. The book you rarely use it.
very awesome teacher..all you have to do is pay attention and bring your notes to class and you will pass...he is very helpful and will make sure you pass his class
Ohhh man! Nothing but the best teacher ever! I really enjoyed his class...
Really hard class. Must be ready to read alot and stay on task.
Suarez is an amazing professor! He makes the trip from Santa Barbara to Torrance everyday just to teach his students. His passion for his subject and for his students is evident. He provides structure as well as freedom to the classroom. He is punctual, intelligent, and inspiring. Take him & you wont simply learn facts, you'll comprehend what was.
I'm taking his online class and I'm not learning anything. :( Also, I hate mygradebook. Why can't he use myetudes???
his ok. not a great teacher. i learn more from other history teachers. his lectures suck; they have nothing to do with what we are supposed to be learning. test are all in class essays.
boring lectures. spends too much time in precolonial history and he rushes trough the other important history of mexico :/ i didn't learn much. he loves to talk about how he is preparing you to transfer that what he actually teaches you
Mr. Suarez is great. He's really passionate about history and it shows in his lectures. There's no textbook for the class and all his lectures are online
Legit all around
Great teacher. Very helpful if you ask for it. Online class is a lot of reading. He really helps for the midterm & final if you need it.
I learned a lot in his class. Very helpful. A lot of reading required, but that's part of learning!
He's a great teacher. He is very helpful in the work.
Very easy. He is very helpful and goes out of his way to make sure his students pass his plans I can recall I was going through personal problems and he was like a counselor to me. He teaches like a university level professor which helps u once you've moved on. One of the best professors I've had in my life!!!..
great teacher! very helpful! might seem tough the first day of class but really isnt.
Pretty easy class. He has packets you printout prior to class meetings. A few online quizzes, and 2 writing exams. The only thing I wish he would improve on is his syllabus. It has no dates, no schedule. You can't really prepare ahead of time. Also, don't bother buying the textbook. Waste of $60
Easy class. He is helpful. he want all of his students to pass. he gives 2 essay exam, lets you rewrite the first one(very easy just study!). 3 online quizzes(T/F). one resource page(very easy to do). Seminars/discussions by group. give you notes to print before class. don't need to buy the book.
His lectures are long, but you do learn a lot. He had a few online quizzes, two in-class writes and when I took him Spring 2011, my class had to do a webpage about any of the time periods we studied. If you know the material, you'll easily get an A. Just make sure to bring your notes with you to class.
Best history professor I've ever had, made each lecture interesting and dynamic, he really takes his time in telling the past with much detail. He is very knowledgeable in his field. He has a great sense of humor and will go out of his way to help you. This is not an easy class, but he will inspire you to work hard and learn history!
Very good professor. He not only cares more than most professors, but he is also encouraging and devoted. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. It was a tough class, but he made it a whole lot easier.
Professor Suarez is very knowledgeable and humorous, his lectures are interesting and time flew by. It's also nice that the material isnt the same old US/Europe/WWI/WW2 stuff we all learned in high school. He is also extremely helpful and will go out of his way to help you, even if it's not related to his class. Not an easy A, essay tests are tough
Great teacher, very helpful. Time MUST be dedicated to this class. His lectures are long and it's definitely not your typical history class where you only need to memorize facts. He expects very well thought out answers. Not an easy class if you don't like to think you really have to work for your grade.
I took his hybrid class, and i thought he was an amazing teacher, for seeing him only once a week i was able to grasp the content and do well in the class. Be prepared to write in depth essays, and READ HIS NOTES! they are clear and easy to understand, the one problem i had was that for a online class he was not prompt on returning emails.
I've always wanted to tell him thank you. He changed my way of thinking about school . I love how dedicated he is to his students and the guy is pretty young himself so he can relate a lot. Always helpful and very encouraging. Plus you learn a lot. Do the homework and you'll be just fine. :)
Probably one of the BEST history professors at El Camino..just read the assigned readings, make keyword outlines, study a lot, listen to what he emphasizes in class AND DON'T BE LATE. I'm warning you now....
Do your self a favor and take his class! Suarez is one of the coolest mofo's youll meet at this school. Never a dull moment . Also no pricey book you have a buy. He's great teacher and just a great person to talk to. Really take his class you'll think the same!
Very helpful and really seems to care about his students. The book is inexpensive and he has his notes posted online. If do you what is recommended, read and study you should be able to get a decent grade.
Professor Suarez is one of the most dedicated professors at El Co. He honestly cares about the well being and success of ALL of his students and is available to meet with students. Even though the class was 3 hrs straight at night he made the material interesting and lively. Highly recommended!
Suarez was a great professor. Kept the class interested and entertained on the subject... I mean people (including me) were ACTUALLY interested in what he had to say. Essay exams are STRESSFUL, but not that hard if you know your stuff and can write intelligently. BE ON TIME, don't miss a class. Just wasn't that great about responding to emails.
The man knows his stuff. Class is very instructional and you will learn due to how much information and clearness he makes the class look. Very good class. Money well spent.
Awesome teacher. Really helpful. Not my easiest class but super amazing
this teacher is an amazing guy who actually cares about his students. He makes you earn your grade but its because he cares about you and your education. Overall, the class is easy if you pay attention and dont hesitate to ask for help. He is always available, and will be more than happy to assist you with any misunderstandings
Mr. Suarez is one of the few types of teacher one comes across in their academic endeavors that truly care about the student. His has developed a history program that is outstanding, He teaches with such passion, you can't help but learn. I highly recommend this teacher to any student who cares about their education.
Was a very fun teacher. He is very good at giving lecture in a way you don't get bored but you must follow along with him or you will struggle. Gave us few in class activities to make us think critically. Class consisted of multiple choice tests, a few in class essay exams (just focus on key words), and I believe on paper on a certain topic.
Suarez is a teacher who truly cares about what he is teaching and truly cares if your are learning. It isn't the easiest class; but hey its college. You will learn, a lot! He does a great job in prepare his students for the UC/CSU system. Take him only if you are serious about this class.
Suarez is so amazing I learned a lot about Mexico's history. He explains it in a way that you remember it easily. It's not an easy class but you can see the difference between him and other teachers. He's really passionate about what he teaches it makes you want to consider changing your major. (I know I did)
Really poorly organized. No clear direction of material. Glad its over would not recommend this guy to people I dislike. Fortunately I won't be needing anything he is teaching again. BEWARE. If you want to mess up your GPA take this class otherwise pass.
His online class is a mess. He does not like using Etudes and makes you use multiple other sites. His setup on Etudes is horrific and not easy to follow. If you don't check your MyECC email you will not be able to follow through with his assignments. No set schedule ahead of time so planning is out of the question.
Very nice guy. He's funny and does make this very boring subject interesting. Has a 15 minutes break every class. If you are good at analyzing documents, than you will definitely pass his class. He does give chances for every student to pass though. The midterm and final are in class essays. Do well in both and you'll pass. Very easy class
He helped me pass the class during office hours. I got an A. Study study study. Its easier that way, dont cram last minute.
He is an excellent instructor. His class is really informative and interesting. He is a great guy that is approachable and you can talk to him about anything. His essay exams are quite challenging yet they prepare you for the 4-year. Read his online lecture notes and study! Exams are strictly on memorization. He will answer any questions you have!
Taking Suarez was probably one of the best choices I have ever made. He cares for his students deeply wants to see them succeed! Very easy going, visit him during office hours and trust me,he will help you get the grade you deserve!Gives online quizzes, long reading assignments & in class essays(midterm & final). Class is possible to pass w a B!
The best teacher I've had yet. He's really funny & truly cares about his students. He won't talk down to you & is the most passionate teacher I've ever had in college. Most of your grade is based on two in-class essays but he prepares you well & if you do the work you can get an A. He also teaches a lot about life. Taking him again next semester.
Great teacher. Get ready to learn and understand history in a new way. Quizzes are online. Midterm and Final are in-class essay. Its an easy class if you don't miss and take good notes. He tells you in advance what is expected in both essay exams. No way you can fail if you pay attention to what he tells you. Plus no expensive book is required.
Terrible teacher. He basically puts up a website and makes you go from there. No sense of direction towards your assignments. You're on your own in that class. Lectures are pretty dull as well. I would not take him again.
HE should really go back to janitorial services or coaching as a teacher he is not really any good. He lacks focus, a real format,or teaching skills. Likes to talk about himself a lot and erodes course material time doing it.
Mr. Suarez is easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is so passionate about teaching History and creates a subject that is typically boring very interesting. He literally tells you what he expects for the midterm and final and is very helpful during office hours. Not an easy class, read the lectures and study and will pass.
Professor Suarez is great! You can tell he is very passionate about what he does. His lectures are clear and he has all the power points online. The books are not necessary, he gives two essay exams and some multiple choice quizzes. If you pay attention in class and study the powerpoints you will pass.
Probably the best professor I have ever taken. Jason Suarez was very passionate and dedicated towards the course and his students. He has a very unique system that is based on equity, where the grade was solely based on the work put in by the student. I'll never forget this class. Truly a good guy, highly recommended!
His lecturing style made me really engaged with the material and piqued my interest in history. He definitely has a passion for what he does and really wants his students to do well. If you get an opportunity to redo work for bonus points, go to his office hours and get it done! Just remember a lot of the details and make sure to write about them
Professor Suarez is a great professor and educator. He truly cares about educating his students on life and how we view history as well as how it effects your everyday life. Take him and you won't regret it.
He's outstanding. You don't take him for the subjectyou take him for him. Pay attention in class, learn the story of the material, improve your writing skills if you're bad with essays, and you'll get an A. His class can be easy, but more importantly, it's an opportunity to improve yourself as a student (or beyond that) if you go the extra steps.
Professor Suarez is one of the biggest assets to El Camino College, hands down. His comedic antics and love of his field, helped me tremendously after I transferred to Cal State Long Beach. If you do the work his system will have you writing better historical essays once you move on. He is a mentor that I'll never forget. Thank you Jason!
Easily one of the best history teachers i ever had. I took 3 of his classes and none of them disappointed. He helped develop my love for history particularly ancient history. His class is entertaining and he clearly is there to help you succeed. Just don't be dumb and text all class or not study and you will gain a lot from the class.
Professor Suarez is amazing. He makes you believe you can pass his class and any class you take. When he is teaching it is like he is tellin this amazing story for the first time and he really keeps you interested in the material. He keeps the class fun with his jokes and the great music he plays before class starts.
great prof. his lectures are interesting he tries to get you into it so you're not bored in his class and he really cares about his students.
Professor Suarez was one of the best professors I have every had. He is but on being on time and attendance also he cares about his students and the tools they need for success. He helped me learn how to study properly and this has helped me do better in other coursers. He has a lot of personality, nothing but nice things to say about him!
The best professor I have ever had in my entire life. He is passionate about his lectures and always engages the class. He gives lots of opportunities for success, you just have to try. I am happy to say I am taking another of his classes next semester and I can hardly wait. I have learned more than I ever thought I would about this class. Love it!
His an amazing professor I enjoy his course and honestly go to class and midterm and finals are easy I really recommend this class!!
One of the best professors I've ever taken. He really loves his area of study and when going through the codices he gets super excited and that passes on to the class. Midterm and Final can be a challenge but if you study a week before you'll be solid. Don't BS him and don't show up late, also participate or go to office hours. he will forget names
Suarez is a real one. He believes in you the way a parent believes in their own child. This guy is one hell of a professor and is a true definition of a teacher, a guide, a great example and role model. He breaks down the real values of education and the significance of history. Truly inspirational, my best decision was taking his class. 11/10.
He is one of my last classes before I transfer and I am so glad I took his class. He does not give homework but participation matters. I don't talk lots during class but he seats you in groups where it is easier to discuss. He makes his lectures so interesting that time flies and you leave feeling excited for next class. I recommend!
The best teacher that's all I have to say
I took Prof Suarez for 154 as well and loved both classes. He's very clear about what he wants from you when it comes to assignments and essays, which you only have two of (midterm and final). He's always available to talk to you about your grades and ways to improve.
Took prof Suarez last fall, he's the BEST ever. He lectures during the majority of the class and leaves time for group discussions. He has a great sense of humor. Only graded on midterm and final which are in-class essays. Easy if you take notes during lectures and study them
This professor assignments might come off difficult at first, but trust me that as long you actually look into the content and not have the mindset "oh this is the right/wrong answer" it'll be a breeze. The quizzes are super easy as well to put it out there. Tip: always reach him out for help it'll will help you in the long run!
Mr. Suarez is my favorite professor this semester. His SSCI 101 course is partly about learning social science but really focuses on you as an individual, learning about transferring, and your career and academic goals. He is very equity-minded and cares about each and every student. There's no busywork, just a few meaningful, personal assignments.
Amazing teacher to have online! Didn't realize what a gem he was until I had other teachers where the course material was so thin and so lacking- he worked SOO hard to make sure that hundreds of years of history fit into his slides and you clearly understood it. Did a perfect job at capturing connections. Lots of reading, quizzes straight from ppt!
Suarez, while really equity-minded and cares about the student experience, tends to do heavy modules for each week. I took the class as an 8-week session which explains it. You only write two papers and have roughly two quizzes a week with a discussion post. Work with your peers!!! Other than that, he seems like a super cool dude.
Took his 8-week session and it is really fast paced, but he makes everything clear. His lectures are sometimes a lot, but they are easy enough to understand. Quizzes for every lecture, a couple discussion posts, and two essays.
This was my first ever professor coming out of high school. I took the course over Summer 2020 and it was a nice experience. His class is straightforward and he provides a tutor to help you out with his papers. I usually do not enjoy history courses, but this class is the one you want to join! Easy A if you try and it honestly is not boring at all.
I enjoyed this class, i felt like I learned a lot and his modules and his grading criteria was really clear and easy to follow, his lectures arent pre recorded they are solely powerpoints with lots of text so you have to read and take your time but the quizzes are 100% module content so its easy to get an A!
I learned so much in this class and am bummed the semester is coming to an end. Professor Suarez approaches history with a holistic approach in which he includes an array of philosophical, sociological, and cultural anthropological to teach history. Seriously, if you want to learn and leave the semester feeling enlightened, take his class!
60% of your entire grade is JUST the Midterm and Final (both essays). I got my grade back for the midterm and I got a 0 when I should've got at least half credit for doing more than half of the minimum 6 pages, the LENGTH was the REASON I got a 0. Now I'm 30% down an it's impossible to even get a C, thanks for taking my money. I dropped it today.
I am sad that I cannot take any more classes with Prof Suarez. This class was amazing, and the midterm and final essays are a majority of the grade but they are very doable using his provided lectures. He lists very specific (fair) instructions for essay requirements/submission. The page requirement is a MUST. It is time consuming, but so so fun!!
This course on Mexican history gave a depth of understanding that was more insightful than any other history course or topic I have read. Prepare to change you view of Mexico and historical cause and effect with an enlightened view of historical process and the complexity of the Republic of Mexico.
Lots of insightful information provided about the subject matter. The time in which we had to complete each unit was so little-Every week contains 2 units, making the pacing of the class extremely fast. All you need to do is watch the presentations every week, and you should be able to pass; as the tests and essays are based on the presentation.
I took History 140 online for a 8 week course. Powerpoints and Readings are pretty much essential and all you need to understand the content of the class. While essays being the deciding grade. Clear grading Critiera. Overall Professor gives good feedback on Discussions and Essays. He also responds quickly to emails or zoom.
Very caring professor, but the class is made up of photos of text that have not been proofread and are full of grammatical errors. There were two 10 page research papers that took a long time to complete. No lectures by the teacher, but lots and lots of reading w/o context for it. More like a grad school level class.
Sir Jason Suarez was amazing, probably the best professor I had. He could know his students, their weaknesses and positives very well in very little interaction. He would engage amazingly in the class, not to mention the sense of humor. I took his class around 2011/12 at el camino and I still remember his enthusiasm to engage students with him and
I took his 8 week course. I would recommend taking his 16 week course or someone else. Suarez is nice, but the class structure is mediocre. 2 units in a single week making it very fast. Heavy readings essays are worth 60%. His readings have mispellings and on slides or websites. Quizzes are easy. I did like the content but structure could improve.
There's no time limit with quizzes & discussions are a breeze, just make sure to put some effort into your replies & you'll get full credit. The 2 essays are pretty brutal (worth 60%). If you follow the guidelines religiously & give a good effort you'll pass. I thought my midterm was going to get a 70-75% but he gave me 100%. Love the guy for that.
Prof Suarez makes this history class engaging. The lectures and readings are essential, but using Unstuck study along with ChatGPT made the essays a breeze. Grading is clear, and he's quick to provide helpful feedback. Definitely worth taking, even if attendance is required.
Great professor, take him if you need history. highly recommend.
