helpful and friendly teacher. his notes and lectures make everything clear. i hardly used my books; waste of money. really study for the essay tests and t/f tests. he isn't hard unless you did not study. he makes the class interesting and fun.

Before, I hated everything about Mexico, because I didn't know about it. BUT, after I took Suarez's class about the Mexica, Cortez, and colonization of Virginia, and tenochtitlan, and american history, I literally became increasingly interested.

The teaching style of Prof Suarez made it interesting to learn the matertial and helped to understand it. The methods he uses will help you on the tests as long as you show up to class and keep up with the notes.

Mr. Suarez is a great teacher, very enthusiastic lecture style. I already loved history and he makes one love it even more. The analysis paper that we do is cool too. He makes us write it early and then fix the errors as near to the end of the semester. I learn so much doing that paper.

Good teacher. Save your money...you don't need the books because he has his own notes. Tests are T/F, 1 research paper. No homework. He cares about and wants to get to know his students. Really wants his students to do well and wants to make the class fun. He tries to make class interesting.

Great teacher. He makes history interesting. He is very helpful and clear about tests and essays. He is straight up honest with the students about exams and spills it out for you pretty nicely. Best history class ever! If you have to take a history class, pick one with him as your teacher.

What can i say, hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is so passionate and knowledgeable about his field.He makes learning more fun than you ever thought it could be. It was not about names and dates but about who and why? Absolutely fascinating man and fascinating class. The best history teacher at El Camino.

AWESOME teacher. History has always been a difficult subject for me as it is, so when the teacher sucks I feel hopeless. But Mr. Suarez is so enthusiastic and his lecture style holds your attention the entire time. He is very clear about what you need to know, it's only hard because history is never easy for me.

SUAREZ IS A VERY HELPFUL TEACHER. I RECOMMEND THIS CLASS TO EVERYONE. THERE IS ONE PROCESS PAPER DUE AROUND THE 10TH WEEK OF CLASS. THE TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE NOTES AND THEY ARE TRUE/FALSE QUESTIONS.

Perhaps the most enthusiastic of all professors @ El Camino. Very easy going, very straight forward, & somewhat lineant. His passion & views for history makes you want to get an A even more... keeping in mind it's not hard to get a "B"...

Mr. Suarez courses are very interesting.This instructor actually puts in effort to make the class interesting and allows for topic discussions in class.Overall, if students study the course notes and read assigned materials, they will pass.It is evident through his teaching and attitude, that Mr. Suarez cares about student success! ^_^

He's one of the best professors I ever had. I had 7:45 am classes with him and I never fell asleep. He's the only history professor that actually makes interesting. I love him to death!

If you want to learn, J. Suarez's class is must to take. If you are going to transfer to a uni, he will teach you alot about properly creating a university level research paper. He is very helpful and will stimulate your interests. I have learned alot taking his class.

I usually struggle in history classes, but in this class I didn't. Mr. Suarez provided notes and actually enjoys teaching unlike some professors. So, recommend everyone to take any classes Mr. Suarez is teaching. You might actually learn something.

At first, i failed his 1st exam, but the rest I passed them with an A. The only thing he does give are alot of exams including essays. But he helps you by giving u a brief outline and gives clear notes. If you study for his texts youll be fine. Youll enjoy his class and his many stories he has to say. Funny ones too

Mr Suarez is a great teacher. He is very active during class and he really enjoys what he does. The notes are "spoon fed" to you, so if you study them, the tests are easy. look at it this way he is just one of the best teachers i ever had. there is no way you can fail his class if you show up and read the notes listen to his lectures, just a great teacher the best way of teaching, you wont get an easy A either so work hard on remembering your history, i remember everything he tought in class MR Suarez JUST THE BEST!

This was a great class only because of the professor. He takes a personal interest that is very rare. He is not easy so lazy bums should not take the class but if are serious about learning then this is your best bet. This was my favorite professor at ELCO. Very open minded and welcomes respectful criticism. His class is worth the time .

A very good lecturer. He knows his subject well. He prepares excellent notes and outlines for the student. He offers good reading references. The notes and reading assignments work together. So read the notes before class and keep up with the assigned readings and you will never lose interest which means good knowledge and a good grade

WoW I never thought I'd enjoy history so much. Professor Suarez has great enthusiasm and is serious about "reaching" every student. Time flies even at 7:45 a.m. The course is challenging & fun. Review the notes he provides both before and after lectures and stay on top of the minimal reading and other assignments and you're sure to succeed.

Don't take his online class. I don't know how he is in the classroom, but from the looks of it, he isn't that great. His online class seems rushed and unorganized. The textbook is really annoying. The whole class is interpertation rather than facts. You may or may not like that aspect of history. His essay isn't all that fun either.

A MUST!!! All the notes, he made 'em. all u gotta do is just print it out n follow along. his tests r st8 from his own notes. teaches with a passion. his essay project is probably the hardest thing in that class. but even that isn't that hard. he's super willing to connect with you personally and help you out in any way he can. great teacher!!!!!!!

He's genuinely a nice person. My bro and I have taken classes (Hist 3 and 19, live) from him, and it's been nice having a prof that treats all of his students equally, regardless of their GPA. He actually cares, which for some may be a good/bad thing. I think of him as an uncle, so it's been a treat taking classes from him. So go, Mr. Suarez!

Mr. Suarez is a good teacher. He lectures with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. Lectures can get boring however when he just talks and talks and talks. No textbook is required. His tests are EXTREMELY EASY!! All of the questions are true/false!! The tests are the only thing he grades you on as well!

Professor Suarez is very passionate. And I truly admire his passion on History. He has a great depth of knowledge in history. I am a history major and I think he is the best history professor in ECC. If you pay attention and participate in his class, anyone can get an A. I really recommend him.

I had Suarez for Hist1A and it was the easiest class I've even taken. All the tests were true/false statements and the answers were pretty obvious if you studied. He mainly teaches off lectures notes, so you can get by without the book. Doesn't think dates are super important and focuses on other areas. Really wants you to do well and it shows!

One of the best instructor at El Camino. His class is one of my favorite. All you need to do is study the notes which are very easy to understand. Three true/false tests in all and he drops the lowest one. The only negative thing is the process paper, but then again, IT IS a history class!

Very helpful, very informative. Group discussion is used heavily in the class and a lot of information is taken in. I honestly wasn't too thrilled with the subject before attending, but he definitely made it worthwhile. Three T/F tests, drops the lowest score. Three group graded activities and a process paper. You won't regret taking the class.

Very helpful, he is available during his office hours if you are having trouble. We did not use the book at all, his test are based on his notes. You do not have to take many notes because he hands out his lectures. If you study the notes you?ll do well. I would recommend this class to anyone!

Mr. Suarez is very helpful & always responds to email ques fast. I took this class online & at first he seems unorganized & not clear but once you start doing the work & it becomes clear & easy. Also he gives so much time to complete assignments and easy grader. trust me if you want an easy A take this teacher!

Suarez is an amazing professor! He makes the trip from Santa Barbara to Torrance everyday just to teach his students. His passion for his subject and for his students is evident. He provides structure as well as freedom to the classroom. He is punctual, intelligent, and inspiring. Take him & you wont simply learn facts, you'll comprehend what was.

Very easy. He is very helpful and goes out of his way to make sure his students pass his plans I can recall I was going through personal problems and he was like a counselor to me. Pretty easy class. He has packets you printout prior to class meetings. A few online quizzes, and 2 writing exams. The only thing I wish he would improve on is his syllabus. It has no dates, no schedule. You can't really prepare ahead of time. Also, don't bother buying the textbook. Waste of $60

Easy class. He is helpful. he want all of his students to pass. he gives 2 essay exam, lets you rewrite the first one(very easy just study!). 3 online quizzes(T/F). one resource page(very easy to do). Seminars/discussions by group. give you notes to print before class. don't need to buy the book.

His lectures are long, but you do learn a lot. He had a few online quizzes, two in-class writes and when I took him Spring 2011, my class had to do a webpage about any of the time periods we studied. If you know the material, you'll easily get an A. Just make sure to bring your notes with you to class.

Best history professor I've ever had, made each lecture interesting and dynamic, he really takes his time in telling the past with much detail. He is very knowledgeable in his field. He has a great sense of humor and will go out of his way to help you. This is not an easy class, but he will inspire you to work hard and learn history!

Professor Suarez is very knowledgeable and humorous, his lectures are interesting and time flew by. It's also nice that the material isnt the same old US/Europe/WWI/WW2 stuff we all learned in high school. He is also extremely helpful and will go out of his way to help you, even if it's not related to his class. Not an easy A, essay tests are tough

Great teacher, very helpful. Time MUST be dedicated to this class. His lectures are long and it's definitely not your typical history class where you only need to memorize facts. He expects very well thought out answers. Not an easy class if you don't like to think you really have to work for your grade.

I took his hybrid class, and i thought he was an amazing teacher, for seeing him only once a week i was able to grasp the content and do well in the class. Be prepared to write in depth essays, and READ HIS NOTES! they are clear and easy to understand, the one problem i had was that for a online class he was not prompt on returning emails.

I've always wanted to tell him thank you. He changed my way of thinking about school . I love how dedicated he is to his students and the guy is pretty young himself so he can relate a lot. Always helpful and very encouraging. Plus you learn a lot. Do the homework and you'll be just fine. :)

Professor Suarez is one of the most dedicated professors at El Co. He honestly cares about the well being and success of ALL of his students and is available to meet with students. Even though the class was 3 hrs straight at night he made the material interesting and lively. Highly recommended!

Suarez was a great professor. Kept the class interested and entertained on the subject... I mean people (including me) were ACTUALLY interested in what he had to say. Essay exams are STRESSFUL, but not that hard if you know your stuff and can write intelligently. BE ON TIME, don't miss a class. Just wasn't that great about responding to emails.

this teacher is an amazing guy who actually cares about his students. He makes you earn your grade but its because he cares about you and your education. Overall, the class is easy if you pay attention and dont hesitate to ask for help. He is always available, and will be more than happy to assist you with any misunderstandings

Mr. Suarez is one of the few types of teacher one comes across in their academic endeavors that truly care about the student. His has developed a history program that is outstanding, He teaches with such passion, you can't help but learn. I highly recommend this teacher to any student who cares about their education.

Was a very fun teacher. He is very good at giving lecture in a way you don't get bored but you must follow along with him or you will struggle. Gave us few in class activities to make us think critically. Class consisted of multiple choice tests, a few in class essay exams (just focus on key words), and I believe on paper on a certain topic.

Suarez is a teacher who truly cares about what he is teaching and truly cares if your are learning. It isn't the easiest class; but hey its college. You will learn, a lot! He does a great job in prepare his students for the UC/CSU system. Take him only if you are serious about this class.

Suarez is so amazing I learned a lot about Mexico's history. He explains it in a way that you remember it easily. It's not an easy class but you can see the difference between him and other teachers. He's really passionate about what he teaches it makes you want to consider changing your major. (I know I did)

His online class is a mess. He does not like using Etudes and makes you use multiple other sites. His setup on Etudes is horrific and not easy to follow. If you don't check your MyECC email you will not be able to follow through with his assignments. No set schedule ahead of time so planning is out of the question.

Very nice guy. He's funny and does make this very boring subject interesting. Has a 15 minutes break every class. If you are good at analyzing documents, than you will definitely pass his class. He does give chances for every student to pass though. The midterm and final are in class essays. Do well in both and you'll pass. Very easy class

He is an excellent instructor. His class is really informative and interesting. He is a great guy that is approachable and you can talk to him about anything. His essay exams are quite challenging yet they prepare you for the 4-year. Read his online lecture notes and study! Exams are strictly on memorization. He will answer any questions you have!

The best teacher I've had yet. He's really funny & truly cares about his students. He won't talk down to you & is the most passionate teacher I've ever had in college. Most of your grade is based on two in-class essays but he prepares you well & if you do the work you can get an A. He also teaches a lot about life. Taking him again next semester.

Great teacher. Get ready to learn and understand history in a new way. Quizzes are online. Midterm and Final are in-class essay. Its an easy class if you don't miss and take good notes. He tells you in advance what is expected in both essay exams. No way you can fail if you pay attention to what he tells you. Plus no expensive book is required.

Terrible teacher. He basically puts up a website and makes you go from there. No sense of direction towards your assignments. You're on your own in that class. Lectures are pretty dull as well. I would not take him again.

Mr. Suarez is easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is so passionate about teaching History and creates a subject that is typically boring very interesting. He literally tells you what he expects for the midterm and final and is very helpful during office hours. Not an easy class, read the lectures and study and will pass.

Professor Suarez is great! You can tell he is very passionate about what he does. His lectures are clear and he has all the power points online. The books are not necessary, he gives two essay exams and some multiple choice quizzes. If you pay attention in class and study the powerpoints you will pass.

Probably the best professor I have ever taken. Jason Suarez was very passionate and dedicated towards the course and his students. He has a very unique system that is based on equity, where the grade was solely based on the work put in by the student. I'll never forget this class. Truly a good guy, highly recommended!

If you get an opportunity to redo work for bonus points, go to his office hours and get it done! Just remember a lot of the details and make sure to write about them

Pay attention in class, learn the story of the material, improve your writing skills if you're bad with essays, and you'll get an A. Professor Suarez is one of the biggest assets to El Camino College, hands down. His comedic antics and love of his field, helped me tremendously after I transferred to Cal State Long Beach. Easily one of the best history teachers i ever had. I took 3 of his classes and none of them disappointed. He helped develop my love for history particularly ancient history. His class is entertaining and he clearly is there to help you succeed. Just don't be dumb and text all class or not study and you will gain a lot from the class.

Suarez is a real one. He believes in you the way a parent believes in their own child. This guy is one hell of a professor and is a true definition of a teacher, a guide, a great example and role model. He breaks down the real values of education and the significance of history. He is one of my last classes before I transfer and I am so glad I took his class. He does not give homework but participation matters. I don't talk lots during class but he seats you in groups where it is easier to discuss. He makes his lectures so interesting that time flies and you leave feeling excited for next class. Mr. Suarez is my favorite professor this semester. His SSCI 101 course is partly about learning social science but really focuses on you as an individual, learning about transferring, and your career and academic goals. He is very equity-minded and cares about each and every student. There's no busywork, just a few meaningful, personal assignments.

Amazing teacher to have online! Didn't realize what a gem he was until I had other teachers where the course material was so thin and so lacking- he worked SOO hard to make sure that hundreds of years of history fit into his slides and you clearly understood it. Suarez, while really equity-minded and cares about the student experience, tends to do heavy modules for each week. I took the class as an 8-week session which explains it. You only write two papers and have roughly two quizzes a week with a discussion post. Work with your peers!!! Other than that, he seems like a super cool dude.

This was my first ever professor coming out of high school. I took the course over Summer 2020 and it was a nice experience. His class is straightforward and he provides a tutor to help you out with his papers. I usually do not enjoy history courses, but this class is the one you want to join! I enjoyed this class, i felt like I learned a lot and his modules and his grading criteria was really clear and easy to follow, his lectures arent pre recorded they are solely powerpoints with lots of text so you have to read and take your time but the quizzes are 100% module content so its easy to get an A!

I learned so much in this class and am bummed the semester is coming to an end. Professor Suarez approaches history with a holistic approach in which he includes an array of philosophical, sociological, and cultural anthropological to teach history. Seriously, if you want to learn and leave the semester feeling enlightened, take his class!

60% of your entire grade is JUST the Midterm and Final (both essays). I got my grade back for the midterm and I got a 0 when I should've got at least half credit for doing more than half of the minimum 6 pages, the LENGTH was the REASON I got a 0. Now I'm 30% down an it's impossible to even get a C, thanks for taking my money. I dropped it today.

I am sad that I cannot take any more classes with Prof Suarez. This class was amazing, and the midterm and final essays are a majority of the grade but they are very doable using his provided lectures. He lists very specific (fair) instructions for essay requirements/submission. The page requirement is a MUST. It is time consuming, but so so fun!!

Lots of insightful information provided about the subject matter. The time in which we had to complete each unit was so little-Every week contains 2 units, making the pacing of the class extremely fast. Very caring professor, but the class is made up of photos of text that have not been proofread and are full of grammatical errors. There were two 10 page research papers that took a long time to complete. No lectures by the teacher, but lots and lots of reading w/o context for it. More like a grad school level class.

I took his 8 week course. I would recommend taking his 16 week course or someone else. Suarez is nice, but the class structure is mediocre. 2 units in a single week making it very fast. Heavy readings essays are worth 60%. His readings have mispellings and on slides or websites. Quizzes are easy. I did like the content but structure could improve.

There's no time limit with quizzes & discussions are a breeze, just make sure to put some effort into your replies & you'll get full credit. The 2 essays are pretty brutal (worth 60%). If you follow the guidelines religiously & give a good effort you'll pass. I thought my midterm was going to get a 70-75% but he gave me 100%. Love the guy for that.

Prof Suarez makes this history class engaging. The lectures and readings are essential, but using Unstuck study along with ChatGPT made the essays a breeze. Grading is clear, and he's quick to provide helpful feedback. Definitely worth taking, even if attendance is required.
