BORING!!! I would rather stab myself than sit through his class. Rambles non-stop for the entire time in a monotone voice.
absolutely horrible...performing my own open heart surgery would be more pleasurable. teaches as if he was giving a sales presentation, not teaching. Very monotone, very boring, little prep for exams.....dont take him.
Great professor, the other ratings are not accurate. Professor Taylor is a good teacher and he explains the concepts very well so that they are easily understood. The kids that have given him poor ratings are probably freshman that have no clue at all.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Talks to class as if he were doing a presentation to a bunch of people with doctrates in Economics. Terrible at getting the basic point across so that an average student can understand it. Tests are extremely hard!!! AVOID HIM!!!
I'm a jr., and Taylor is by far the worst prof that I have had here so far. He has no concept of the fact that the class is not econ majors, and he is cut and dry and boring. Nice guy, horrible teacher. U of Virginia's loss is an even bigger loss for us
Dr. Taylor is a good professor. He knows what he is talking about and is always willing to help students. He grades on a huge curve too, which works to your advantage. I think those other people are full of crap.
Don't even bother trying to pass the tests because they are awful!!!
It does desearve a brake because it's his first year. I feel he knows his stuff incredibly well, but doesn't teach it very effectivly. I think that has to do with the difference from this school to the one he use to teach at. Adjusting is key for him!
he teaches thoroughly, always willing to help, and cares about his students......he can be a little boring, but overall, he's very nice, tests are easy, and he grades on a big curve
A wonderful professor. He really cares about his students doing well. Grades on a big curve and as long as you go to class and take notes you will do fine.
great teacher, explains a lot, don't have to read the book, just go to class to get the notes but the tests are hard if you don't understand the material. Can't just memorize
People who complain this prof is too difficult are either LAZY or not smart enough to be in college.Go to class.Take good notes. Ask questions. STUDY. Don't expect the prof to hold your hand and oversimplify everything. It's not hard to get good grades.
Awesome teacher!
Well, this class isn't *easy*. It's challenging, but totally passable and it is possible to get A's. But you absolutely have to be there for the lectuers and study your butt off. Be prepared to work for this one.
Taylor is a good person but is very boring. Doesn't do anything to make the class interesting and the tests are really hard. You really have to work hard to get decent grades.
Professor Taylor is a real assest to CMU. I have had many econ professors at another university and have not experienced a prof. that explains the important economics concepts as well as him. Read your notes and be present and the tests will be fair.
He expects a ton out of his class, teaches at a high level. If you want to be challenged take his class, if you want and easy A take another teacher. Big curve on class, but his avg. score on test are usually 59. He is a first year teacher @ CMU.
Great teacher. The class is challenging, but follow the lectures and study for the tests. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to pass the class, just pay attention.
The class is boring at times, but he makes sure that everyone understands everything and actually cares about his students doing well. Nice guy, very willing to help. I highly reccommend taking his class
Taylor's an awesome guy. Some people from previous semesters say that his class sucked, but apparently he's made a lot of adjustments and made the class a lot better. If you go to class and take notes, it's really not that hard.
It's true, you do have to work in this class! Econ and this prof are very boring though! The tests suck really bad and there are too many! The final is comprehensive and sucks also!
Taylor is awesome. He is very honest and tells everyone the class won't be the easiest but if you actually go to class and pay attention you will learn a lot and do fine.
Go to all classes - LISTEN - take good notes.
The people who thought that this class was boring probably just didnt like economics. He is a fair teacher but you have to be willing to listen. I think he does a good job of explaining the concepts and trys to make sure that everyone understands.
Taylor is a good professor. He has his notes ready so you can print them alol off before class. He explains concepts really well and his tests arnt that hard, you don't really need to study if you just pay attention in class.
He is great, always letting us out of class early and has a great personality. His notes are on blackboard and exams are not too difficult he curves them.
you have to go to class, he keeps his notes on blackboard but take more in lecture, tests are hard, mostly written short essays
Good professor. Lectures can get a bit boring but is not a hard class at all if you pay attention and do the work. You can get screwed on tests if you don't pay attention because most of it is short essay questions. He knows his stuff so just pay attention and you'll do fine.
Great teacher! Just print off the notes off blackboard, go to class, and write down more notes from the lecture and you'll do just fine. Tests are not hard as long as you go to class.
GREAT personality. Tests are okay if you pay attention in class; reading the book is just supplemental. Don't be afraid to speak up in class; its a good atmosphere for it and he loves it. Makes a boring subject bearable. This guy is awesome!
Nice guy. Knows his material, but can be a little technical at times. Tests are short essay. Grades partly on participation. Doesn't go directly from book, so it is purely supplemental. A challenging but managable course.
Good teacher but went really fast and didn't go indepth with things. All essay tests. He grades really hard! No joke!
Great teacher. Difficult at times, but will give a fair grade for fair effort. Take his 201 class.
This guy is a BADASS; I must say that he is my faviorte Prof. I've had at Central. He gives lots of examples and they are always amusing. Don't try to take the class without putting in effort; he is a good man and always willing to help. Jason Taylor = LEGEND.
GREAT proffesor. really makes the class intersting and relates to things students like and understand. The tests will be easy if you go to class, listen to the lectures and under the concepts which you will if you listen to him. if you have the chance take his class it is enjoyable
Good teacher. Clear lectures, very helpfull, easy. TAKE HIM!
Good guy. Kept things intersting and always gave good examples. A lot of the homework questions are on the exams so if you do the homework and really understand it you will do good on the tests. Tests are all essays/short answer/ draw graphs but aren't overlly difficult if you study. I hate Economics but this one wasn't too bad with Jason Taylor.
Great teacher! He explains things clearly and thoroughly and it really helps you understand the material. His tests are challenging on purpose to make you think, however he curves the grades afterwards to balance it out. I would recommend him for anyone taking an ECO class. I wish I could have him for all of my classes.
Professor Taylor is extremely knowledgable in economics, and it shows. BEWARE, if you are not 'expert-like' in economics, his 365 class will give you a stroke. Lecture are decent, however, he uses a lot of technical jargon. Problem sets/HW is are slightly difficult and time consuming. Test are all graph/short answer and tough. Slight curve on test.
Jason Taylor is the best prof at CMU. He is a really cool guy who actually cares about the students and makes ECONOMICS INTERESTING. Imagine that!! He's brilliant and I plan on taking him in the future if he teaches any more honors electives. Prepare to work hard and know your stuff and you'll actually learn and remember it too. TWO THUMBS UP!
Easy class if you attend regularly. Has powerpoint notes and exams are pretty much everything from the notes. There are opportunities for extra credit, overall enjoyed the class and ended up with a B.
Very direct and helpful. Generally cares a lot for the topic and for students. Enjoyable and informative classes. All-around awesome professor.
The TEACHER! You'll really know all he covered in class, which sometimes goes above the book. But you have to study really hard to get "A"
Great guy, loves the class, you dont really need the book, i didn't use it once, you necessarily have to be at every class, but he has a participation grade, and if you miss a day, you miss crucial info. If you go to class everyday you'll do fine, there is a group project thats easy, overall a great class and great guy
He took over our class halfway through the semester and I thought he was very good. The tests are a little hard because economics can sometimes be a lot to understand. If I have to take another economics class I'd take Dr. Taylor for sure
The best econ professor that i have taken. He knew what he was talking about and he was very helpful. He tests arn't that bad as long as you study and he makes econ interesting.
Jason Taylor is the best econ professor at CMU! If you go to every class and follow his power points, you will have no problem getting a good grade! He is also super funny/adorable! I cannot beleive he does not have a "chili pepper" rating yet! I think he is extemely attractive!! ;)
Amazing professor. The best I have had thus far, he explains everything so well and makes it interesting. It isn't boring and he relates it back to us. He talks about current issues a lot, which again makes it more than just a lecture class. His powerpoints are really helpful as well. Tests aren't bad, but you have to study.
Prof. Taylor is an excellent professor. You will have to work for your grade, which is the way it should be. His style is very clear and organized. He's also very helpful outside of class and genuinely wants you to understand the material. Highly recommended.
Loved it, even tho I hate Econ.
One of the best teachers i have ever had by far. Makes everything you learn very interesting and relates it to everyday life. never really use the book, he has note online. Highly recommend taking him
class is very easy, just print out notes and do the home work. study from hw and previous exams and you will do just fine. very good teacher he has excellent abilities beyond that of an ordinary teacher.
I loved this class. Professor Taylor is passionate about economics and it shows. He's very helpful and lectures are usually interesting. He's a bit of a dork, but usually funny. He also didn't require a book for our class. We did have to buy a $30 Wall Street Journal subscription though. If you can, I would recommend taking class with Dr. Taylor.
Professor Taylor is a very good professor and loves economics. I really enjoyed this class and he opened my eyes about the macro economy. He makes the class very easy to get an A but also teaches a lot of information and is a very credible professor. I would definitely recommend him.
Don't need the book. Very easy A. HW only turned in prior to exams. Could get by without going to most classes.
Great guy! Really helpful. He really has an interest in getting to know each of his students and knowing them on a first name basis. He's passionate about helping his students succeed. Hopefully coming out with an A this semester
Very easy class. Extremely knowledgeable, would go out of his way to see you succeed and really understanding. I would suggest him any day
Great professor! Easily one of the best at CMU! He is very passionate about teaching and economics. He takes a strong interest in hs students. Exams are easy if you take notes in class and do the hw. Very helpful with any questions. Take time to go to his office to chat. He is great to talk to.
Don't need textbook. Very nice professor. Go to class and participate when you can and you'll have no problem getting an A
Professor Taylor is an outstanding teacher. He actively involves the class and puts a great deal of effort into the lessons to try to make them more applicable to life. No need for the book, homework and test answers come straight from notes as long as you take complete notes. Also gives you previous exam and study guide to study for tests.
Best professor I've ever had. The material is presented very clear and he finds the best real life examples to relate the material to. Take this class.
Mr. Taylor is one of the best professors I've had at CMU. His lectures are flawless. If you put in the effort on the weekly assignments and attend his lectures(which are interesting anyways) then you will do well. The assignments are easy and are helpful study tools for the exams which are not too difficult. Awesome guy. Take him if available.
The worst CMU Professor i have ever had. challenging homework questions every friday morning challenging exams as well. the worst experience i have ever had with this professor
Jason was the man. Definitely recommend him in an Honors class to students. Genuinely interested in giving you a good class experience
Dr. Taylor was a great teacher. I got so much out of his class and he will get to know you by name. Definitely take a class with him.
Gives great lectures. Actually made learning economics interesting because he's so passionate about it. His tests are directly from lecture notes. Easy homework. One of my favorite professors here!
I dont like the way the class is set up. You have homework due every friday morning that is sometimes really difficult, along with homework due every sunday. Hate the way he sets up his tests, because they are just so random sometimes. Econ is my worst subject, but professor Taylor is a great guy but he just seems to ramble alot and i cant focus.
Jay Tay is the man, best class I've had at CMU yet
Professor Taylor was an excellent teacher! My favorite one I have had at Central Michigan to date. His lectures are entertaining and clear and his slide notes contain all of the information you need to take helpful notes. Professor Taylor explains Macroeconomics in a very easy to understand way. Do the homework, they become test questions.
Professor Taylor is a great professor. He is very fair and does not care if you skip lecture. His class is laid out well and you will always know exactly what to study for on the test.
He was a very good professor. He covered the material well and as long as you show up to class you'll do well.
Very business-like, professional, and knowledgeable. The class is fast paced, and notes are essential. I will choose this professor for every class available.
Professor Taylor knows the content well. He's a good teacher but has very high expectations. If you skip, there's a good chance you'll miss a lot of content on exams, so make sure to come to class. Exams are short answer. There is some form of homework due every class. Group presentation at the end of the semester. Not easy, but you learn a lot.
4 exams for 100 points each, 100 points for written homework (due every Tuesday, self-graded), and 100 points for online homework (due every Sunday). Each exam has 6 extra credit questions. Lectures are easy to follow. Attendance isn't mandatory, but show up and try and you'll get an A. Great prof, he brought us donuts once too!
Professor Jason Taylor is definitely the best professor I have ever known in my life. He encourages students to succeed, Describes thoroughly, and the information he gives in all his classes, not just this one, are the best you can get from a Professor. I wish I have more studying at CMU to register in all his classes.
Jason Taylor has got to be one of the best econ professors at CMU. He keeps the class engaged and makes a dull subject somewhat entertaining. Homework due at the start of every class (self-graded) and online homework due every sunday. Exams are really easy if you go to class and do the homework. Several extra credit questions on each exam.
Prof taylor is a good guy. I struggled on my first two exams but it was on me not him. hes very willing to help and if you struggle go to office hours. class material is dry but he makes it bearable. questions from class material and media assignments are the homework and pearson stuff. only study class material and you'll pass. take this class
Prof Taylor is really laid back and interesting to hear lecture. His class is relatively easy if you pay attention in lecture and do the kind of optional homeworks . Would definitely take this class again.
I loved Professor Taylor! You need to go to class to get homework/media assignment points (Both very easy to do, but you do get a good amount) and he will lecture the whole time, but he is engaging, caring, and a fairly easy grader. Gives extra credit if you aren't on your phone, gives a question skip on exams. I would highly recommend him.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever meet.
You have homework assignments after every class and weekly media assignments. Additionally, there are weekly online homework assignments. The questions on the exam come straight from his lectures and his homework assignments. Also there are about 4 or 5 extra credit questions on each exam, and you can skip one question. Great professor!
I would never take Prof Taylor for an Econ class again. I have never had a professor treat me like such an idiot for not understanding the class material. I am not an expert economist, and he never seemed to understand that.
Best econ professor I've had at CMU! I would take more classes with him if I could.
Will really take the time to get to know his students. A bit shy but wants the best for his students
Professor Taylor was great as far as lectures go. His exams were pretty hard though and no study guide was offered. The final is also cumulative. Attendance was not mandatory, but he doesn't post slide shows online so you have to go if you want to do well.
Easily the best professor I've ever had at CMU! If you attend class, take notes and study your homework you will do well on the exams. I was worried this class would be really hard but he made it manageable and I've learned a lot.
Professor Taylor is by far the best professor I've had at CMU. I truly struggled in microeconomics, however, received an A in macro due to his teaching style and grading criteria. He breaks up the information into smaller sections, meaning more exams, but less info to retain for them. I HIGHLY recommend. I hope to have him again in the future.
he was an amazing professor. his lectures were easy and he understands that students don't want to listen to the teacher talk for an hour and 15 minutes. his homework is super easy and his exams are just like the notes. just make sure you take good notes and show up to class and you'll get an A no problem.
Professor Taylor is an amazing professor but I found this class a little more difficult than others have said. The homework was super easy and as long as you complete it you get an A. But the exams I found a bit more difficult. He provided study guides but they weren't very specific on what to study. Also go to class and go to exams.
Really good teacher. As long as you attend the lectures you should do well in the class!
terrible, hard grader and exams have like one multiple choice question rest written answers
He is the best economics professor at Central. His powerpoint slides were very well made and adapted based on current events. He really helped me understand the world from a more economical perspective. He does cold call you in class but there's never any pressure behind it. You can tell he really wants the best for his students.
If you show up to class and take good notes on the slides he presents you'll be fine. The tests are all short answered but the questions are discussed in class and through the homework. If you study all your notes a couple of times you'll be fine. Plus there are always extra credit questions. Tests every couple of weeks so you can't miss any day.
You only get homework points if you attend class, lectures are always easy to follow (lots of Yoda jokes), loves what he does, and really cares about his students.
Professor Taylor is super friendly and a great professor. His lectures make the content super easy to understand. Go to class and you'll get a good grade!
If you show up to class and pay attention, you can easily get a passing grade. Professor Taylor was by far my favorite professor I've had and I hope to take another class with him. His tests are mostly written but if you study for them, you will be fine. He always explains stuff that the class does not understand and gives out study guides for test
He explains things in a way that is easy to understand, and he gives great lectures that I am engaged in and interested in. DO NOT SKIP CLASS HERE, IF POSSIBLE, you will fall behind. Study for his tests tho, they can be hard (especially for me because im a naturally bad test taker and his tests are all written). Overal, great respected professor.
Fantastic guy, fantastic professor. Professor Taylor is such a nice guy, and his lectures lay out everything so clearly so you'll able to learn very well. You will need to take good notes, as his tests are a bit difficult and always hand written in class. But all the information you need is on his lectures, and he explains it perfectly. Take him!
Definitely would recommend, Mr. Taylor was the best professor I've had and knows how to teach and teaches right. 4 to 5 exams all written answers but if you show up and take notes you're going to get an A. Will 100% be taking his class again as an econ major.
bit of an oddball, and likes to use forced participation, but seems genuine.
