first half is dead boring. he talks way up above our heads. gets defensive real easy if you don't do well on his quizzes. pretty stuck on himself, too. the students do better presentations than he does.
a really nice guy. challenges students but is very helpful and answers all questions. I have registed for two of his classes next semester. can't wait!
He's a great professor who's very interested in his student's lives. He's willing to work with anyone who needs it and his expectations are clear. Really enjoyed taking him and would defintiely take him again.
if you can ever figure out what he's droning on about, you might be able to keep your eyes open in this class. if someone else is teaching 200, though, take them instead.
This teacher does mostly lectures, has a bunch of quizzes and you have to do a notebook for his class that is really hard. His tests are even harder, but their also tricky. The book might help a little bit, but he wants you to know his lecture stuff too which is different from the book,it's a bunch of extra stuff to memorize. He's too demanding!
Dr.T's awesome! He's a professor who truly cares about all his students; really passionate about what he teaches! Yes, he is a tough teacher (I would not recommend him for a filler class), but if you put in effort, you will get A LOT out of his class. He makes class interesting and really helps in office hours! I have him for 2 classes next semster
Dr Teven is an extremely intelligent professor. He expects a lot from you, but provides you with the tools necessary to succeed in his class. His lectures were informative, interesting, and fun. He is also very helpful during office hours. Most of all, Dr Teven cares about his students and wants them to succeed
I learned much from the man. Really cares about students and makes it interesting. The tests are hard but if you study, you do well. Enjoyed going to class everyday!
If your taking him because you have to for the major, it's one thing, but don't get yourself stuck in a class with a 20 page syllabus. Ask another student for the study sheet he gives out for the final..it will stop youn cold!
Great Prof!Enjoyed his class. Love his teaching style with powerpoints. Very helpful. Gives study guides. Alot of interaction and conversations. Fun class. I took it in the summer qand got a good grade
His classes are interactive, insightful, and fun. He always looks for student feedback and often speaks of how much he learns from his students. He's contributed a lot to the field. His exams aren't difficult if you've read and his assignments really help you apply what you're learning to everyday life. We need more teachers like him...
This was a great class. I had Dr. Teven for another class last semester and he always knows how to make the material interesting and fun. He's one of the best profs in HCom.
Dr Teven is a great professor. He is passionate about teaching and really cares about his students doing well. He will go out of his way to help you out. He is a great professor and a cool guy.
Great Professor, I enjoyed attending every class.
Enjoyed this class. His tests are difficult, but plenty of opportunties to do well. Lively discussions. Definately recommend.
Dr. Teven is a very nice and fun teacher. The tests are based on lecture and the book - they are not simple answers but his class is fun and he is an awesome teacher. He is a great teacher to get to know.
hot professor and smart...great teacher! learned a lot and had fun...never missed class and actually looked forward to going...best part of my tuesdays and thursdays! highly recommend him.
Tough but fair. Don't expect a pushover, but this man really cares that you understand what he is teaching. He leaps at the opportunity to get student interaction and never makes you feel stupid. Take the time to do well and you'll learn loads from him. Read the textbook; the exams come out of the text, so you must read. Great porfessor!
Read the text! The exams come from the reading. Lectures are great: lively, interesting, he likes lots of interaction with students and loves being challenged. Never fear to ask a question, he'll answer it and never let you feel stupid. Really cares about his students and whether you are learning what he is teaching. Awesome professor!
He was my favorite teacher last spring. Read the text and study the notes, tests are based on that. He is very nice and you will enjoy the class.Take him!
He's a really great and entertaining teacher. He cares about whether you're understanding everything. Tests are heavily text book based, but easy if you study. And he's funny!
Dr. Teven is great! He's fun and entertaining. He loves a good class discussion and he knows how to make the material interesting.
Dr. Teven is the most incredible professor at CSUF. He knows his stuff, is extremely helpful and is such a great public speaker that you are instantly drawn in. He is the greatest professor ever... and not too hard on the eyes =]
lots of speeches so be prepared to talk in front of the class. there isn't much interaction with teven because he divides up the class with 4 different lab directors and you see them more often then teven. hes a really nice, funny guy and is really enthusiastic about the material. little boring though.
Cake. Awesome class. Just take him already!!!!
You get participation points for attendance. No homework. Two easy speeches infront of only 25 kids. All exam questions are on the book's website, which they give you the link to. Exams are not accumulative. The prof and TA were funny. Great teacher all around.
VERY easy class. You do a couple short 1 min speeches in the beginning and have two more formal (around 5 min) speeches, along with the midterm and the final; you get to choose the subject of your speeches and perform them in a more intimate setting in a lab group (20 ppl)
Very fair. Enthusiastic about the subject he's teaching. Material is pretty easy but make sure to study for the tests. Otherwise, you should get a good grade.
Very enthusiastic about teaching. He gives us "relaxation break" by putting up funny youtube videos :) He truly is a fantastic teacher.
Great professor! enjoyed this class because of the breakout sessions, which made giving speeches SO MUCH BETTER. 2 speeches and 2 exams. He does make a study guide for the exams.
Dr. T is real, makes the class relevant to you and your life. The class is fun, yet you do learn the material. Read the book for th tests or you won't do well. TAKE HIS CLASS, any class!
Dr. T is amazing, but do the readings, because his tests are intense. Class is fun, entertaining, and everything you need in college!
Love the man. One of the funniest and insightful teachers I have had in my college career. Take his classes for sure.
Dr.Teven really is an amazing professor. When it comes to tests know your material. The speeches have an outline which he gives out. It is really great to visit him during office hours because he might include you for one of his lectures. =] It is a must to take him at CSUF.
Extremely sweet, understanding, and fair professor. He gives out fun activities like self surveys and you find out a lot about yourself in this class. It is essential to have the textbook for this class. If you do the readings, you get an A!
Dr. Teven is a great professor. He is funny, helpful, and easy on the eyes ;) His tests are a little difficult, but not too bad. He made the class so much more enjoyable than I was expecting. Take him!
really smart guy, but a bit dogmatic if you ask me. I would take every HCom class from him if I could because he is a really good teacher, and person (from what I know). He is hard, but wants us to learn. Take him for any class.
He is an awesome professor! Integrates little activities into his lectures. His exams are usually based on the vocab in the text so make flashcards. Had to give 4 speeches in front our breakout groups but were pretty easy. Really nice guy. With his guidance I was able to feel more confident about giving speeches and socializing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
pretty cool prof. although we broke out in lab sections and he was only there for the lectures, he was very interesting to talk to and had very good examples that relate to our lives. 2 big presentations and 1 little one. 1 midterm and 1 final. he counts participation with worksheets.overral great prof TAKE HIM!
TAKE TEVEN. Dr. Teven is the best professor I've had so far. He's extremely knowledgable and is contributing writer for the next HCOM textbook. He is super interesting and grabs every student's attention. There are two formal speeches, a midterm, and a final. Got A's on both speeches. Study for the exams & you should do well.
very knowledgeable about subject. class time is spent talking about examples. test questions come from the book! you have to read the book! very fair on grades.
MUST TAKE TEVEN! Great teacher, very helpful, knowledgeable in the subject. Wants all students to understand and will help and be interactive. Funny and nice. Must take, he wrote the book, he teaches whats exactly on the test. ATTEND LECTURES
awesome professor! He made his lectures interesting with worksheets and partner activities. Exams are tricky so make sure to look over all the terms and concepts constantly. Great class!
Teven is an awesome professor! I would absolutely take his class again. He made lectures incredibly interesting and he is actually fun and humorous! The class is pretty easy if you try as well as attend. You have to give two 5 minute speeches which sound terrifying but you do them in front of small "break out" groups, easy class! Loved it!
AWESOME! He was able to give great insight to the topics covered. As always, ppt's and assignments went hand in hand to class lecture. He utilized the book well. Tests were always straight forward and he always made himself available.
Good quality teacher, really nice, very approachable, wants his students to succeed. VERY knowledgeable and coauthor of the book! Teaches by lecturing and giving examples through ppt. Midterm and final aren't easy so read the book, know concepts and key terms briefly explained during lecture. Two speeches (info, persuasive) during breakout sessions
Great teacher, coauthor of the book. The book is really good too, fairly recent and is easily relate-able. Biochem major but this was one of my favourite classes taken yet.
Great teacher!
Amazing teacher! I recommend his class!
Wrote the text book and was rather arrogant
I absolutely LOVED this class. All the material taught in class is relevant to real-life. Very interesting stuff. Dr. Teven is a super nerd ball :) best professor I've had at CSUF. His tests are right out of the book so you HAVE to read. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you won't want to miss because it's just so awesome! Definitely recommend!
Amazing teacher! I recommend his class! Midterm and final aren't easy read the book carefully. To get a good grade you have to STUDY! Half of the time is in lecture and the other half is in a break out class throughout the semester. The speeches are done in the breakout class, 2 speeches.
He is humorous, polite, and engaging. His stance on communication issues are centered as to challenge students to see both sides of the spectrums. He is an expert on the topic of goodwill and credibility. He is very knowledgable, very experienced, very credible. Exams can be challenging, study his review guides, read the book, you will do fine.
Alright class I guess. Lectures are pretty boring and useless in my opinion, so I never attended. Speeches are quite easy as long as your instructor is not a hard grader. Memorize the vocabulary words in the book and you will do fine.
A rockstar! Learned a lot of this professor. Take him, you wont regret it.
Took him for 308 MOST POINTLESS CLASS EVER LIterally we sat there and talked about our feelings Says he loves his students but didn't even email me back to help me Nice guy but he doesn't go over anything and just talks about his articles I had to pry out the freakin instructions for our papers out of him Need textbook cause you teach yourself
Challenging prof! Makes you think critically about issues. He also does funny impersonations of politicians. Would take his class again but I'm graduating in December.
Pointless, talks about her daughters and how great single dad he is, does not understand students care more about their studies and their grades in the class not how nice he is in his personal life!!
Dr. Teven is an excellent prof! I have taken several of his classes and I'm always amazed at how well he relates with his students. He is always prepared and is entertaining in class. Highly recommend his class, especially Family Comm.
ABSOLUTELY WASTE OF TIME!!!!!
Dr. Teven is intelligent, friendly, & humorous. I'm not sure how his other classes are, but for 200 it was part lecture & MOSTLY student discussion. He really appreciates ppl's input; however, I found that it wasted class time & we'd go off on tangents & not really cover important material that was on his study guides or the exams.
When it came to the examsquizzes, I had to review for myself from the book. Lectures were not entirely helpful & consisted more of discussion, which wasted time. 5 quizzes (drops the lowest), 3 exams (final is not cumulative), group presentation on a theory, application folders (seemingly simple if you don't wait until the last minute to turn in.)
Everyone who has taken a class with Teven insisted I take him. And they were right, he gives so much of himself to students who care. Wish I could fit more. FYI, The poster who had to "pry" instructions out of him did not do the assigned reading before class, which was why she didn't get it, and had to waste everyone else's time. Frustrating.
Extremely helpful, generous with his time. Is flexible and willing to meet with students within their schedules. This is a dry course that no one wants to teach, but he makes it interesting. Even provides page numbers next to each item on the study guide. Take just some responsibility for your own learning, and he will go out of his way for you.
Please do not take this professor if you are the type to take advantage of someone's kindness. He is so flexible, and I often saw students with a sense of entitlement take advantage of that. He is willing to push back dates or work with a student who is in trouble. All you have to do is communicate with him. That is the point, after all.
Very nice teacher. The class is pretty boring and the class discussions seem really irrelevant (talks about daughters, personal stories, etc). Not a lot of points in the class so midterm and final are very important. Provides study guides. DOESNT FOLLOW SYLLABUS POINTS. which was annoying, TERRIBLE at emailing back. But very nice guy. Particpate.
Nicest professor. He does the lectures in a big room then on most days you will meet in your smaller break out classes which is where you do your 4 presentations. Attendance really only mandatory on break out days. Presentations aren't bad. First 2 are very simple. Last 2 are timed. Recommend reading the book to do well on the midterm and final.
Professor Teven was such a great professor! His lectures were clear and interactive. He's a really nice and funny guy, he actually makes you want to show up to class. Doesn't assign any homework, so just do good on your 4 speeches, midterm & final. Overall easy course with a great professor, take him if you can!
Dr teven is an ok professor, it's more of the lab directors that teach, the lab director at least the one I had was amazing, Susan was possibling one of the greatest teachers I've had ever, dr teven was just there to lecture it was the real responsib of the directors to teach.
Dr. Teven is the ideal professor. The things is I learned a great deal about life from taking his class. He adds so much insight into communication making me want to learn more. Definitely recommend taking him. He is unlike many of the HCOM instructors. Quite engaging!
Dr. Teven gives semi-weekly quizzes for the readings each week. Just know the terminology and you will be fine. There is one group presentation where you explain a Communications Theory. Dr. Teven, as a professor, is extremely sincere and helpful. Genuinely a great guy who makes communication theories relevant. I would take every class with Teven.
Family comm was my favorite class this semester. I really enjoyed taking Dr. T before I graduate. I learned tons and will apply the content to my life and my own family. Highly suggest taking his classes.
Teven is really quirky. His lectures are interesting and relatable. The two speeches, midterm, and final make up your whole grade. The small breakout session is where you give your speeches isn't the whole lecture hall. I loved my lab director but they change for every semester so hopefully you get a cool one.
Tests are tough, and not always about what he talks about in lectures. You NEED to read the book. Overall great class and great professor. Participation and attendance matter.
Dr. Teven was a very honest lecturer that is for sure. He tried to make the lectures more interactive with activities which helped. The class had two "big" speeches, a midterm, and final. If you want an "A" on the tests you really need to read the book he assigns. You are given a lot of freedom with speeches so practice a lot and get an "A"!
The class itself is fun and laid back. You need to get out of your comfort zone. There are 2 oral presentations that should last 5-6 minutes. Be sure you are confident and have read the speech well. The exams are a bit tough. The best way to review for the exams is by going on the website offered on the back of the book. Has the exact same test q's
Teven is an attractive professor. He teaches amazing and is clear on what he teaches from PowerPoints. He has a lot of enthusiasm and is funny! This class is composed of 3 speeches, a midterm, and a final. Class is broken up into sections to go over chapters and speeches. I for sure would take another class with him in the future. Never boring!
He was definitely my favorite professor. I always went to class and read the book, which isn't necessary but very helpful! Participation doesn't matter but it's hard not to sometimes. I didn't like public speaking before this class.
AMAZING TEACHER. Dr. Teven is seriously the most caring professor ever. He's very helpful and thoughtful, always tries to understand and help out his students. Only 2 exams, they are kind of hard, just make sure you study well. Do need the book though because his test is based on the book
2 exams that are tough, so study. 4 speeches (first 2 are 1-2 min, last 2 are 4-6 and then 5-7). class is very fun. he loves his jobs. you have breakout sessions with lab directors. good class overall.
Although he is nice and a good professor, I personally feel that he did not cover most of the material during lectures. Make sure you read the chapters for the exams carefully and differentiate different concepts. But he is funny sometimes during lectures.
Class seems easy but tests are tough. tests on material he never covered. Seemed frazzled and disorganized. Lectures don't relate to age of students. Gives good feedback on papers, but is a tough grader.
Professor Teven has been the best professor I have had in college and in high school. Not only does he care about the student's but he also cares about knowing what we all do outside of school to make the class more welcoming amongst us asstudents. He is a great professor and an has been an inspiration to me! Trust me you wont regret takinghisclass
He's an amazing professor, he is calm and not judgmental. He is a great person to talk to about almost any topic and provides great insight. He doesn't speak too quickly or too slowly, he speaks clear and I never saw him yell once. If you know the key terms then you should do fine on the tests. You won't regret taking him.
Dr. Teven inspires his students to be competent communicators. A quote that befits him: "The mediocre teacher tells; the good teacher explains; the superior teacher demonstrates; the great teacher inspires." William Arthur Ward. Dr. Teven is the latter of these teachers. To my benefit, I have had the privilege of registering in 3 of his courses.
One of the best professors I've had at CSUF. I loved learning about persuasion techniques. You can tell he likes what he does, and he cares about his students. You do need the textbook.
The tests are difficult, as in that you need to read the textbooks and pay attention to the lectures. But, other than that hes a great professor. He truly cares about Communications, and the students. He is open minded, charismatic, and hilarous. He truly was my favorite professor this past semester, and hopefully will get him again in the future.
Dr. Teven is amazing at this Lab director program. He literally lets you be creative & entrusts you to do activities for the kids. He's very open-minded & there if you need ANYTHING! He is also a huge encouragement throughout the whole semester. He has a huge passion for his lab directors succeeding. Definitely an amazing & rewarding experience!
Teven is an amazing professor! He really cares about his student's success. Totally would recommend. You definitely need to read the chapters to succeed in this class.
His lectures are fun. The majority of the test comes directly from the book, and I easily got away with skipping lectures and just reviewing chapters at home. The tests are not cumulative, but make sure you review terms from the book to do well on the test because he doesn't go over them during lecture.
Have taken Dr. Teven for three classes now and he is an excellent prof. He is so enthusiastic and has a passion for teaching & students learning. He is insightful and applies the theories to real life. I learn so much from his teaching. I want to become a professor because of him. I highly recommend taking him for a class.
Tevens lectures dont cover much material. Your grade is based off of 2 speeches (100 pts ea),midterm (100 pts),a final (100 pts)&participation (50). He doesnt grade your speech a lab director does but he will still lower your grade even if he didnt see yours. Tests are hard because its not definitions its more of scenario qs. doesnt grade + or -
The subject is very easy. However, you don't have a lot of chances to bump up your grade, so you must do well in every speech and exams. 1 midterm, 1 final, and 2 speeches (one informative & one persuasive speech). The midterm and final is 50 question multiple choice, worth 100 points each. And the speeches are 100 points each as well.
Dr. Teven is a real nice guy. His syllabus is a bit intimidating, but he's a softie so don't worry too much about it. HCOM 413 was nothing groundbreaking but I think it helped some college students reflect on their friendships and intimate relationships. Helpful stuff. Class is easy. Test is straight from the book. Group project is easy too.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. His tests are very hard, and all over the place. The tests are right from the book, which he wrote, so get ready. Way too hard for a level 100 class. Try to take a grad student for HCom 100, and they will grade easier. The tests were surprisingly difficult and he didn't cover a lot of the material.
Dr. Teven is a wonderful professor. He really cares about his students & wants them to do well. He offers a ton of perspective on the communication discipline and how to apply concepts. I took two classes with him and loved going to class. His exam are challenging as others have said but if you read the book and participate you're good. Recommend!
Teven was the best teacher I had for my first semester at college! His lectures are very interesting, and make me think about majoring in Human communications. His classes are always fun to attend. He has 2 big speeches, which are given in small break out groups, of about 25 kids. Take him, you won't regret it!
Teven is really funny and tries to make class really interesting. There is dialogue between the class and professor if you want to participate. You only present twice and they are very easy presentations and in front of your lab directors, not the 90+ class. Downside is the course is graded by only four things, just study and you'll be fine.
Dr. Teven is nice, and approachable. He knows what he's doing and very adorable. His lectures can be all over the place so it's better to focus on each chapters and reiterate the concepts you don't know. Two article reviews, a sales presentation, three tests, two quizzes. The book is needed.
His teaching isn't conventional. The overall class, in my case, was over 100 students. He assigns lab directors (4th or 5th year students) who are the actual ones who listen and grade your two major speeches. Grade consists of a persuasive speech, informative speech, and a midterm and final. My lab director was great, just depends on who you get.
Dr. Teven is the man. He's kind, understanding, & really WANTS his students to succeed. His tests are TEXTBOOK heavy, but his lectures are informative & fun to discuss along on. The guy is a sweet person, and it's easy to get a good grade if you really pay attention and do the work. His grading is clear, there aren't any surprises. Would take again
This class has a midterm, final, and two speeches. The Textbook helped me out of lot. He divides you by 4 or 5 groups to give your speech in a smaller setting so its not as bad. He is really funny and caring! The lab assistants change every time.
Half of the semester is in a lecture hall with dr. teven while the other half is spent with a TA in a smaller sized class. There are two difficult exams that are based out of the book and there is an informative speech and a persuasive speech with your TA that is easily graded. overall enjoyable class, even for those afraid of public speaking
Attendance is not mandatory but it is highly recommended to attend a majority of the classes. His discussions are always interesting and you usually participate because we all have a family so we all can relate. The textbook is helpful during the midterm and final, but his notes are very helpful as well. But his exams are on the tougher end.
I really enjoyed this class and the way it's set up. Only HCOM100 class that separates into groups. The professor is super nice and really cares for his students. Tests are a little tricky but if you study, read, and attend class you'll do fine! I definitely recommend this class
Took HCOM 320 in Greece with Dr. Teven, and the experience was great because he provided a lot of social support. He presented insightful lectures on the origin of communication studies on beautiful sites in Greece. He definitely takes the time to enjoy the trip with his students, and it was great to have an adult who just had fun with us!
a good teacher. a funny man. his class was interesting. read the textbook for the exams. wish i was a HCOM major. i might minor in it now.
Dr. Teven is the best! He is so caring and professional. He is easily one of my favorite professors at CSUF. His tests are challenging, you need to read to book or you wont pass. He is always available to his students with office hours and email. Highly recommend.
Dr. Teven is the best professor ever. He is so kind and knowledgeable. He is very friendly and will help you a lot to understand the course materials. His classes are super fun and never boring. Because of him the class environment becomes so positive that all students become great friends. He is a fair grader, so study and turn in the assignments.
Dr. Teven was a cool dude. Lectures were good and he tried to make it enjoyable. Sometimes, could go off on tangent, but was cool overall. Tests are a bit hard when they ask scenario based questions. Make your speeches interesting and vibrant for good grades. Very organized on speech dates and your outline is not due till the day you go.
Dr. Teven is funny, caring, and knowledgable. His lectures are really interesting. His midterm & final are hard so you really have to study the book that he co-wrote. You have small break out sessions with other lab directors who grade the speeches. You are assigned to them by last name. I liked the break out sessions, its easier to make friends.
Dr. Teven was a good professor, who showed a lot of passion. But you spend half of the semester with him and the other half with TA. I was lucky enough to have an easy&outgoing TA so that made my semester go by smoothly since she wasnt a tough grader (she wanted all of us to pass); two speeches, two exams (hard so study), & participation matters.
Super funny and entertaining!! Speeches were graded fairly and somewhat easy as long as you put in the effort. Final and midterm were based on all the terms learned so as long as you memorize them youll get an A or high B.
Prof Teven is such a funny and caring professor! There are 2 small speeches (show & tell, introducing a classmate) and 3 big speeches (informative, persuasive, celebratory) which are easily graded. Midterm & final were super easy--just review the vocab from each chapter (I never read the book). And the only mandatory classes are speech days!!
Dr. Teven was by far my favorite professor this semester! Definitely recommend taking his class, it really isnt difficult unless you dont try at all. He is very funny and super down to earth, he loves to get to know his students. There are only 2 exams that come straight from the book, just make sure to cover everything on the study guide.
Loved Dr Teven, the only bad part is half the meetings are with TAs and not him. Study for tests or wont do good.
He is awesome and relatable, too bad Rona screwed things over
He was really fun and caring. Lectures were extremely chill and he just talked to the class like a normal person. The entire class consists of 2 small speeches, 3 big speeches, and 2 tests. The tests are easy and reading the book once was enough for an A. The speeches can be hard and nerve-racking, but just rehearse and you'll do fine. Easy grader.
Dr. Teven is so nice, one of my favorites professors at CSUF. He is so kind and his tests are super straightforward, there are no tricks at all and he's a pretty fair grader, if you don't put in some work, you won't pass but if you put the effort it's a pretty easy A/B grade.
Professor Teven is one of the sweetest and kindest professors I've had at CSUF he really cares about his students' success. I would 100% take him again!! His workload is not bad at all, mostly lecture heavy but it's just a review of the reading.
Dr. Teven is a really nice guy and I enjoyed listening to some of his lectures! His lab directors are also very organized and always try their best to assist you. Most of his class consisted of taking notes from his lectures as well as reading and studying from his book. Had 2 major speeches and 2 exams with one extra credit assignment.
I passed. There are 2 exams and speeches. He wrote book. Take good notes. He tells a lot of stories and can go off in a tangent and loves to talk about his own greatness a-lot.
I had Dr. Teven for an online class and he's pretty cool. He rambles a lot about different topics other than the one we're supposed to be learning which can make the class boring at times but I would take him again.
i really enjoyed dr. teven and his lectures. he made it easy to understand and he is very caring for all his students. you meet w/ an assigned TA every week and do most of your work with them in a breakout group. be sure to read assigned chapters & you should pass the exams!
he okay and okay teacher and he not very intresting bcuz he do not stick to just lecture and dont want to hear about his personal. hes wishy washy and he just wants ppl to lik him ego. took his online class n their are tests. study n you will past
Enjoyed taking Dr. T for Persuasion. He assigns a sales presentation & 2 exams, and some small papers. I would prefer to have the class in person tho. Great instructor. Chill prof!
His lectures are good. Majority of the test comes directly from the book so review. Cons kinda into talking about his personal stuff (into himself) and takes over much class time. Read, review and you will pass.
This was the first time I took one of his classes. I learned a lot. He cares about his students doing well. Helpful prof! Def recommend!
he is hard prof. & all over the place. Read his book. The tests were surprisingly difficult & he didn't cover a lot of material and wasted class time with extra personal stuff. Needs to get to the point.
Dr. Teven is one HCOM professor that you need to take as a Communication major. I was not expecting to enjoy Persuasion (332) and it just so happened to be one of my favorite courses taken at CSUF. He may go on long rabbit trails in class but if you pay attention he is tying the story back to a lesson. I will enroll for all of his offered courses.
Ok prof. Tests not easy. Wouldn’t take again. Class didn’t keep me interested. Had to take. Read book and notes.
He is the nicest and most caring man at the school! My textbook didn't come in time and he was willing to let me borrow his. He has a real passion for his subject & loves teaching. Recommend taking his class!
In my two years at CSUF as a transfer student I can say that professor Teven has been my favorite professor thus far. He has an interesting & fresh perspective on life and communication. I have learned so much from his classes. As far as I can remember, we were graded on two exams, & sales pres. Read the textbook for the exams & you should do well.
Needs to use own examples about himself instead of others to relate to his lecture. Most was about other students and took much of class time. He did not finish lecture sometimes it seems like.
He is an amazing professor!! Dr. Teven wants students to do well. He does expect college level work but he explains everything clearly. He uses great examples to illustrate course material. I highly recommend his family comm class! Glad I had one of his classes before I graduate.
I took professor Teven for a GE requirement, HCOM 100. He was a really good professor, get ready to write though and work in groups.
He is just ok as a professor. I took the 318 class with him. Get ready to read the book. One test it was like I was set up for failure because he did not go over the test material thoroughly. A lecture he did not finish and classmates he let take over much class time. hes nice but does not really make him a great professor. Sorry
persuasion class is fun with doc T! liked how he taught us tricks to persuade others and in workplace. he was a nice teacher and taught me more than in the classes i took for speaking and persuading. gave guidelines for how to do work. fun class. i was surprised i learned a lot i can use at work and with my boyfrined.
fun teacher. nice. smiles alot! practical information! I like him and I suggest you take his class. He is smart and knows what he is talking a bout.
This teacher is a tough grader but he is fair. Mr. Teven is fair and gave us chances to get better grades. I read other reviews that said he was not a good teacher. I think he is a great teacher. He made me want to study hard and get the high grade. I think if you want to learn and want to work you should take his class and get a good grade
Class no listed and Doe not reply in a timely manner. Class hard to follow
don't waste your time.
hard to get a hold of
Dr. Teven is a caring and engaging professor. I have taken several of his courses and I always come away a better student. His encouragement and support are instrumental to my success. I am grateful for his commitment to students like me. Thank you Dr. Teven for being an amazing teacher and mentor!
Professor Tevens was a good teacher but the class was extremely boring, he often reads off of slides which are posted on canvas and the test is literally the whole study guide. If you put in any effort at all you will do fine. Great guy and the TA's are all cool and helpful.
Professor Teven was hilarious and gives good advice, and his TAs were amazing! My only complaint is that for his lectures, he kind of just reads off the slides, but it's not that bad. Some speeches were graded pretty hard, while others seemed more lenient. Assignments are discussion boards almost every week, but they're pretty easy.
I love professor Teven! He truly cares about his students and his lectures were very engaging and hilarious. I love how he is understanding. He does have little assignments which you do have to get a good score on or else your overall grade will go down.
Prof. Teven is good at talking. In fact he spends most of his time talking where boundaries can be an issue. He uses the PowerPoint slides all the time which shows me he doesn't need to prepare much for the class lectures. There was nothing wow about the class. It was quite boring.
I had prof Teven for research methods this semester. I was nervous about taking this class but he made it accessible and fun. Learning about SPSS was intimidating but helpful. The class was online so its important to keeep up with the assignments. Great class and instructor!
Dr. Teven truly cares about his student, not just our well-being but our mental health. Dr. Teven's tests are difficult; you must read, read, and read. However, he is more than willing to be present to help each student. He is a tough grader; however, it is expected in college. I have taken many of his classes and would take another course.
Although he is nice and a good professor, I personally feel that he did not cover most of the material during lectures. Make sure you read the chapters for the exams carefully and differentiate different concepts. But he is funny sometimes during lectures.
I took Dr. Teven for research methods. He is very straightforward and fair yet he challenges his students in a good way. He would give us quizzes to see if we knew the material. I would say read the book. He assigns several papers. A fair grader but he does take a little time to return and give feedback. He takes attendance in class.
Mr. Teven usually uses slides for each class. He tries to put things that is easily to understand but sometimes it's not my era and I can't relate. Just humor him lol. The teacher also has quizes. Teacher isn't too accessible out of office even though everyone has their phone glued to them! He wrote the book and just study hard.
Super chill prof! Dr. Teven encourages participation. There are 2 exams, and least one quiz and he gives study guides. He is good about emailing you back if you have questions.
Professor Teven was a good teacher but the class was extremely boring, he often reads off of slides which are posted on canvas and the test is literally the whole study guide. If you put in any effort at all you will do fine. TA's are all cool and helpful.
I took his 308 class over the summer and boy I wish I hadn't. While his discussion posts were interesting his SPSS homework was difficult and time consuming while being poorly explained. Maybe it's better over the regular semester but I would not advise taking it over the summer.
Dr. T is a great professor, one of my favs Ive had at CSUF. He is very understanding, and more than willing to help students with anything they need, and is very easy to talk to if you need help.
He must of been on vacation while his class was going on. I felt no structure in the class and I took it in the summer time. Maybe because it's all impacted but I felt like the class was disorganized and the teacher was not as accesible I guess. I got a B. Just study and read.
In my two years at CSUF as a transfer student, I can say that professor Teven has been my favorite professor thus far. He has the most engaging personality when giving his lectures that it automatically intrigues you. As far as I can remember, we were graded on a midterm, final and group paper and presentation.
I loved taking this class. Each day was different and very interesting. Professor is very engaging and keeps everyone's attention throughout the lectures. You can tell that Professor Even cares about his students. I would definitely recommend taking this class!
#1 proffessor so far. He actually cares about the class and engages them in doing many things that are fun. He even brang cupcakes one time. Huge W's
Seriously one of the best teachers I've had. He really connects with students. The speeches we did were actually fun, and we picked our own topics, which made it easier. He is genuinely interested in what he's teaching. Lectures were ok, not the best, but he always kept them fun.
Professor Teven is super funny and nice. In his lectures he shares personal experiences. In this course you will be given a lab director, where you will meet with them once a week and have your speech presentations. Other than that it is pretty easy and you will pass if you prepare your speech.
Loved him, he was a great professor. The tests are easy as long as you have the book and google. He's very approachable and it is easy to talk to him if you have questions or things you need to talk to him about.
He was just okay. I felt his tests were rather hard and the class was overall difficult for me. He has to share his own experiences rather than others experiences which I feel would make for an overall good class. Tends to be a conservative grader.
I liked this professor because his class had teacher assistants and were spilt up. He is very funny and nice. I would def take him again. Attendance is not mandatory. Speech topics are really easy.
I really enjoyed his class! Lectures were alright but he would always share personal experiences that would make the class interesting. He is very nice and funny too. Speeches were fun. He let's you choose your topic. Overall, he's a great professor and his class has lots to teach!
Dr. Teven is a gem. Very humble and cares about students. Took several classes with this professor and he never disappoints. He is approachable, down to earth, and helpful. It's clear he loves teaching and is awesome at it. Be sure to read the book and use his study guides. Overall, highly recommend his classes!
The professor is funny and engaging, sharing personal stories that make lectures interesting. Speeches are straightforward, and Unstuck ai is a great study tool alongside the textbook. Attendance is mandatory, but the class is manageable with preparation.
I am bad at writing and public speaking, but Dr. Teven made this class easy. He is very understanding and patient. There are four main speeches and two 50 MCQ exams that are done outside of class. There is a general rubric for speech, but you can choose the topic!
Disorganized. Not interested in the material to me. Seems unfocused. A need to be liked. Work was doable. TA was cool. Wouldn't take again.
Professor makes the lectures engaging and participative. WARNING if you sit in the front rows he will make the most intense eye contact with you the entirety of the semester for all 75 minutes of the class, super unsettling. Also, he will selflessly plug the textbook because he was one of the authors, personally, I never used it once.
I feel as though he has issues teaching in front of people. In class, he is unusually uses a lot of hand gestures and motions and staring. In addition, I feel as though, he is not insightful or very analytical. He seems very superficial and not with it. He likes to brag about himself and his life.
It was not the best class. Just it was taught by one professor. He seems okay but I wouldn't say I would take him again based on some of the response here. He was just a professor I guess
Loved the class, loved him, loved everything. He is a great teacher, very involved with the students. Will answer any question you have. Makes the class very interesting. I was not a hcom major but after taking his class i switched to comm and I am very satisfied! Take him you will love it
I had better professors at CSUF. The overall class was boring and vibe was really weird sometimes where i felt he was just staring during the lecture directly at me. Wouldn't take again. Just the vibes...
Professor Teven really cares for his students. His teaching style, course assignments, and passion for the subject made every class engaging and meaningful. The lessons I've learned in his class will play a significant role in shaping my future, both personally and professionally. Highly recommend him!
Starts strong with energy and support, but fades when you actually need consistency with assignments and test information. Class structure becomes messy, communication weakens, and you're left feeling like you cared more about your success than he did.
Solid and lectures can be engaging, especially on topics like communication and relationships. But something felt a little off, like he was more interested in sounding insightful than actually being self-aware. Students who are paying attention might notice a disconnect between what's taught and how it's delivered. Take it as you will.
Class has good info, but when people shared personal stuff, it didn't feel like he really listened—just jumped to the next topic or threw in a movie. Kinda felt off at times, like it was more about keeping the lecture going.
One of my favorite professors. I can't wait to take more classes with him in the future. He knows his stuff and is very relatable on a personal level. Take him! Awesome class all around.
Dr. Teven is a great professor. To do well engaged in class discussions and take notes of the lecture slides. The work load was average. He is very understanding and cares about the well being of his students. There is one group project and presentation but it was a simple assignment and he gives you plenty of time to complete it.
Dr. Teven is a really good lecturer. Participating in class and discussions gets you recognition. He's friendly and funny. You need to study for the exams, otherwise you should be good if you follow the guidelines for the speeches you have. The course could be structured a little better, but it's not bad.
Dr. Teven's class is really easy. You take notes on the lessons from the book, which he normally presents slides during class. The speeches are fun and easy as well, not a thought greater at all. You are guaranteed to pass the exams if you pay attention during class, but you don't necessarily have to take notes since it's all just common sense.
Dr. Teven truly cares about teaching communication and about his students. My main qualm with his class was the amount of assigned reading (450+ pages). If your other classes have minimal readings, take 304 w/ Teven; he's very kind with his grading. However, be prepared to go over the textbook in detail for the midterm/final.
