Waste of money
Made History interesting and had the notes on a power point screen in class and posted them online, so if you missed any notes you could get them online. The tests were fairly easy. HE is a younger teacher so isn't one of those teachers that just stands and lectures for 50 minutes, there is a paper in the class. Which isn't to bad.
good teacher. yeah he puts all his notes online. really easy and interesting to learn from. one of the best history teachers.
awesome teacher, easy as crap, take this class you will get an A
Took this class intersession. He kept class moving at a decent speed so boredom did not set in. Pretty interesting.
I had a 3.9 GPA took his class online. Completed all the work he wanted (including reading a 200+ page book and reporting on it). He gave me a C+. Lowest grade I ever received in a class, he seems to like the women better then the men. But hey., I would to.
Great professor, very clear, gives hints for exam, study them, pay attention to his lecture, participate. GOOD TO GO. easy A HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR
Prof. Totten is a great professor. He makes history extremely interesting, and his stories make the class go fast. The tests are challenging but paying attention during discussions and studing the HINTS, you will be fine. I highly recommend this teacher, he is one of the best.
Took his course online and found him to be incredibly helpful and explanatory. He has a quirky personality that makes history interesting and fun to learn. Beware! don't take this class online if you are not prepared to write 500+ words a week on assignments!
Great teacher, keeps your interest even if history isn't your favorite. Just study the hints.
Great professor!Easy A if you study. Personally I hate history, so I took this class for intersession. Basically you need to come to class. He talks the entire time. For the exam he gives you terms that are on it. You have to write a paragraph on those terms, there's one short essay, and multiple choice. If you study you'll be fine. He makes it fun
At first he was a little overwhelming but once you get the hang of his classes you really shouldn't get a low grade. If you read and do all your work it's cake. I took him online over the summer and I really enjoyed history. He makes learning fun. You won't learn if you don't try though. READ your book or nothing will make sense. RECOMMEND!
Mr. Totten is certainly a character. He enjoys what he does and is good at it. You can tell he is a texan but he's still alright. Study the hints he gives and you will do fine.
He knows his stuff. his class is interesting and based on lectures. His exams are pretty hard you really have to study and know your stuff. Its not an easy multiple choice test. I would recommend him
Took the online class and it was interesting. If you do all your work you should do fine.
Prepare to learn a lot, especially things you wouldn't read in a typical textbook. Professor Totten constantly references history journals, and other resources, giving you a well-rounded view of U.S. history. There is a lot of writing, but Professor Totten is fair, and reasonable. I plan on taking HIST151 next semester. Great experience.
Took the class online over Intersession so it was intense. All assignments were posted on the first day of class so you could plan your time accordingly. Great teacher, really learned a lot and I only took the course b/c it was required. Great teacher, do all assignments and get an A.
Wonderful teacher, well worth his weight in gold
aaaaawesome teacher. he makes sure you know everything for the test. has crazy stories about anything in history. great class highly reccomend
Funny and energetic and makes history interesting, uses alot of powerpoint presentation and videos which help with paying attention to class, not just an easy class but makes you want to be there and paying attention all the time
Excellent professor - very knowledgeable and passionate about history. Took the class online, and it was very organized and his expectations were clear/reasonable. Overall, I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class. Put in some effort and you'll do well. There were weekly discussion posts, a midterm (essays), a paper, and a final (essays).
Took his class during the summer online. He offers very interesting comments on history that makes it more than your traditional boring history class. He grades fair (not easy). Use the text book on tests to get a good grade. Make sure you invest time on the film review too. (The film review was a lot more fun than I anticipated). Great Class!
I took U.S. History I over the summer, my second online class with Prof. Totten. After taking HIST152, Prof. Totten piqued my interest in history. He really makes his classes fun and interesting, and uses material outside the textbook. The film review was really fun too; I got to review Gangs of New York. Great class. Highly, highly recommended.
Mr.Totten tells you exactly what you need to do.All you have to do is listen. Fast with getting grades back and is fair. If your an idiot or you wait til the last second to post in the discussions you will not do well. My advice is post on the discussions right away and more than he asks you to.He likes when you actually have something tocontribute
The easiest class at bucks. All powerpoint notes are straight out of the textbook and you can access them online so you never have to take notes. Tells you question for question what's going to be on the test a week in advance. Four tests one 5-page paper. Definitely take him for history
Had Prof. Totten for Hist151 online. He was so wonderful and helpful. Any questions he would e-mail you back very quickly. If you did all your work and put fourth effort this class was very easy to work with. Did not truly want to take this class in the beginning. Loved the class so happy I had this Prof. I am planning on taking him again!!!
He was the best teacher!! He makes class fun and he's helpful and understanding when you need it. As long as you do the work, you will get an A. Wish I had him for more classes. Lays all the work out ahead of time for his online class, so you know what to expect.
Just finished Western Civilization 2 with this professor. Awesome teacher, very funny and helps his students. Test are based off of his powerpoints; powerpoints are very clear and understandable. Just make sure you attend most classes and study for an A or B. I studied alot for test and easily recieved high B's and low A's. Not a strict grader
Awesome and helpful teacher. He is fair, clear, and prompt in answering any questions. I took the class online and I hated history but I am now taking part 2.
Took Totten online. Great professor, willing to help and/or provide guidance and instruction. Don't hesitate to take Mr. Totten for an online course.
Prof. Totten is an AWESOME teacher!! I HATE history, but he was a great teacher and I learned a lot by doing research. He is very helpful with any questions you may have and extremely fair! I highly recommend him! SO EASY!
Great teacher! Nervous to take online course over the summer but Mr. Totten is clear on every assignment, due dates, and is always prompt with any questions. If you like history or you just need this class either way you will learn a lot and won't be overly stressed with Mr. Totten!
His class wasn't that bad, but his test is very hard. I'm an IEP student, got the notes printed out, extra time on test and it was still hard. He has you do 4 ID's(whatever they are), 1 essay and 15 mulitple choice(which are the worst). I've ever took a test that was so dang hard!!!
Awesome and funny teacher. Gives a lot of extra information and should have been a voice actor. He posts the power point outline on canvas and gives very accurate hints for the exam. All you need to do is read the outline and prepare for the 4 ID's and you will easily get an A.
I took history western civilization II with Mr. Totten. He made class enjoyable and kept the class interested. He gives an accurate outline before the test to help you prepare. As long as you study and pay attention you will pass his class. I recommend Mr. Totten. One of my favorite teachers by far!
Took Western Civ with Mr Totten. One of my favorite classes iv had in Bucks. Totten is a funny guy and his tests are only hard if you dont study. Highly recommend his class
Took hist152 online with totten. Just do the work and you will pass! Requires 4 posts per week on discussion board, three exams in the form of essay questions, and one film review of your choice. NO multiple choice ever!!! I was never late submitting anything and got an A+. Do your work.
Took western Civ with Totten, I highly recommend him. Hes a cool guy, keeps class interesting with his deep knowledge of history. Tests arnt easy unless you study for them. Final project is a film review. I put effort into it and he rewarded me with a A+.
Totten is a cool guy and his class is easy. He is pretty funny, but class get drag on during lectures. Very easy tests if you study and you only have to skim his power point notes. He is an easy grader.
Professor Totten was overall a good professor. He was very helpful (even through the internet) and an easy grader. May have been because I took him during intercession, not sure. But I liked him, and recommend him for anyone wanting to take this course. My only problem was he uses big words that made absolutely no sense.. but overall good professor
He was a very nice guy. Very easy grader as long as you complete the assignments on time. I barely did any of the textbook readings and I still got an A so it's not a hard class at all.
This professor was a great one! He was very helpful, and explanatory. If you do all that he asks of you, you will learn a lot and enjoy the class! I would recommend him to everyone!
He was the only one of my online professors who actually joined in on the conversations and posted on topics. Replies to emails asap. Great professor. He makes history fun.
Totten is a great prof. Had him my first semester for 113 (i'm a history major) and I'm taking him again for 114! His class is easy, never any homework except for a 100 word response on canvas. 4 exams through the semester, all on canvas and you have a week to take them. There is a 1k word film review as the term paper, but its really easy.
Very easy grader. Homework assignments are not hard by any means. Only have about two tests and they're not hard, you can use online sources and books.
Professor Totten is AWESOME! His class is very interesting. He participates in the posts, has a sense of humor, a passion for history and he knows his stuff. He shares a lot of interesting details that absorb you into this class. 3 Exams, 1 Film review and weekly posts. You have plenty of time to do them. Highly Recommend.
I had Mr. Totten for an online course and I personally enjoyed it. It was a short summer course but I did have to read, participate in a weekly blog, and complete one assigned project (which are all easy if you do it). Very cool guy, knows his stuff, and is always willing to help if you have trouble.
Good teacher, funny guy, knows A LOT about history. Prompt email responses. Makes information relatable to students.
I've had totten I think 4 times. the most out of any prof at bucks. He's always been the most consistent and fair grader, doesn't overload you with coursework, and you actually learn something from his classes. If totten teaches a class you're not fond of/didn't do well in, I'd recommend trying his class.
Totten is a cool guy and his class is easy to get through. Just be ready to do some reading assignments, but all of his tests are online!
Professor Totten is a fair grader if you participate, do the work and turn it in on time your grades will reflect that. Also there is a total of 4 posts weekly, one essay, and 3 exams. Professor Totten always responds to emails, and answers and questions you may have about the class. In total i would defiantly take another one of his classes.
Professor Tottens classes are not for people that work full time and take more than one college class. His rules are very strict and seems hard to please as a previous student mentioned. He wants you to read an insane amount. I never read so much just for one class. This class is three classes in one. My advice is to choose a different professor.
Professor Totten changed my perspective on history and made something that can be boring into a very interesting class. However, there is lots of writing and papers and discussion boards involved. It's one of the toughest classes I've ever taken and you definitely have to work for your grade, but he's fair in his grading and communicates with you.
If you hate online classes, don't take Professor Totten's online classes. The discussion boards are amazing. I love writing my posts each week and engaging in interesting conversations with my peers and Prof. Totten. There are three exams in total(not a typical exam),and 4 posts due each week. He is very kind and will help you if you're struggling.
I took HIST151 online and honestly as long as you do your work every week youll be fine. The class is all discussion boards with 3 exams. The exams are 7 IDs at least 150 words with a 350 essay. Its not difficult but its definitely time consuming. I would recommend him, every time Ive messaged him he gets back within a day and is really nice.
Amazing professor, highly recommended! Although there's a lot of reading, it is a history course so I would expect nothing less! Once you figure out how the weekly discussions work, it becomes a breeze, 1 original post + 3 reply posts 500 words guarantees an A. Exams are lengthy but easy because you have ages to do them and aren't timed.
hard class, have papers, great professor, discussions every week, required to read the chapters every week, have tests
a lot of reading each week, have tests, hard class
hard class; have papers; readings every week; have tests; helps students when need help; discussions every week
took his summer course online, and professor Totten is honestly the best teacher ever (even though i didn't see him face-to-face). Super easy- pezzy! He always gets back to you, and gives awesome advice if needed! no need to buy a textbook-free online version is the way to go! Just be prepared to read a lot--but Highly- recommend him 10/10!!
Mr. Totten is a great teacher!!! You will have Four Exams and a Film Review Assignment to wrap up the semester. The class itself is an online based class, with discussions in occasion, and reading assignments. Gives feedback, and a very funny man!
Took on-line course, Prof Totten is very interactive with class, lots of work, if you put the time in, you will do fine. Enjoyed the class very much.
Totten is great. He reads through powerpoints each lecture but puts the outlines on Canvas so you can print them out to follow along and add extra notes. Had a total of 4 exams which were online and questions were directly from the notes plus a short essay at the end. End of semester 5 page research essay was surprisingly easy. Don't buy the book!
Honestly, one of the best professors I had. He is a very understanding and easy going teacher. If he misgrades something, he'll fix it for you ASAP. Late on an assignment? Just email him and he'll work through it with you. A very easy class, all you have to do for the most part is 3 discussion posts a week. Awesome professor and class!!
Gives a lot of work but very easy to keep up with it. As long as you follow the steps/deadlines you will get an easy A
This was my second class at Bucks and Professor Totten was awesome! I learned a great deal in the summer course. It is a lot of reading but I was able to accomplish it. Communication is key.
I made this account JUST for the chance to save a poor soul from taking this guy. He's one of those people who just hates giving out A's. No matter HOW well you write something he can AND WILL find something missing and take points off. utterly ridiculous.
This teacher is funny and all but please save the time and maybe money to not take this guy. I have written more essays in this class than all of my English comp classes combined. He will avoid at all cost to not give an A. This teacher feels the need to give maximum amount of work all because it is online. Don't let the good rating fool you!
I took this class as a last minute- get it out of the way- course. The work wasn't hard if you took the time to read the material he provided you with. Discussion boards every two days. He does have tests that you can work on over the course of a few days so it isn't overwhelming. You put in the work and you'll get a good grade!
I took Prof. Totten for four history classes, and I would have taken more if my degree required it. He's one of the best at Bucks. Yes, you have to read & write a lot of essays. I don't see how this is an issue for anyone, though. It's a college course. He gives such a linear path to an A, and you simply need to follow it. Great professor 10/10
Professor Totten is amazing teacher. He gives great feedback and is always ready to help you out.
Professor Totten was an amazing teacher. I hope in the future I will be able to take another one of his classes. He was very kind and very understanding. His class rules and expectations are really easy once you have it down. 10/10 reccomend
Class is boring, but simple enough, Film review was annoying, and the mandatory use of tools like EBSCOhost are always just annoying no matter what teacher you are. He's the kind of teacher that says Wikipedia isn't creditable and isn't a valid source of information, so take that as you will.
Since this is an online history class it is a lot of reading and writing but nothing too overwhelming if you are staying on track. He has a set routine for assignments and is very organized. Overall he's a great teacher and can't wait to take more of his classes!
I had Professor Totten over a winter session class. He sets up the class very simply- minor assignments and major assignments. Minor assignments are over the course of 3 days and you have to post at least once a day. Major assignments are the "exams." Exams are open note, 7 short answers and 1 300 word essay. Never opened the book or powerpoints
I wish I can take more of his classes. He is straightforward with what he expects and is a very fair grader. He responds to emails relatively fast and for it being a completely online class he engages everyone in the topic discussions. Every week you had a new topic and have to write 500 words about it.
History has never been my thing so I was expecting this class to be painful, however, Professor Totten made it easy and actually interesting. Our class had weekly discussion boards and I found the material interesting and easy to write about. He gives a free online textbook which was awesome. Exams were lengthy but he gives plenty of time
He is an amazing professor, he grades stuff instantly, and you will have it back in like 2 days with feedback. The class is very straightforward, you actually have to pay attention to the due dates and his instructions on assignments and tests. Responded to my emails in an hour (during his office hours). Great Professor.
Go to class. Super easy grader and nice guy
Made the course really entertaining. Textbook is Free! Movie is free, too. He's a nice guy, just don't use Wikipedia. Exams are 80% of grade but open note!
The main class grade is based on a highly participation-driven discussion board. Word count matters for all assignments, but is reasonable. You will be teaching yourself, which is expected from an online course. He supplies the material and gives helpful feedback. If you follow the well-explained grading criteria, it is easy to get a good grade.
Great class, lots of reading!!!! well worth taking the class. Workload is very manageable. Everything is thoroughly explained throughout the class and the expectations. Would absolutely recommend taking this class! Prof Totten is extremely knowledgeable in history and makes the class more entertaining.
Somewhat confusing assignment format, but very interactive and willing to help. Super prepared canvas wise, and very discussion based.
This guy is awesome. Super funny, super knowledgeable. He communicates exactly what he expects from you, as long as you listen and follow instructions for assignments, you'll be fine. If you get the chance to take a class with him, you should.
Mr. Totten is a great professor I have had at Bucks which I took him a couple of times! This course was 100% online, no meeting times. Books are free from library databases. I got a B because I put a lack of effort into the work, which is open note, so if you talk to him, he'll help you pass and get an A.
Great professor. Probably my best all around professor. He teaches great, and he keeps the same energy and emotion with every lecture. He is a good grader and is very understanding in his grading. I had him for multiple courses, online and in person, and both were great. His best quality is his organization. Everything was very clear and laid out.
10/10! Not a huge history person, but Prof Totten made it fun! If you take this class online, beware of lots of discussion posts, which is totally understandable. He explains everything in such clear detail and always has reasons for why he does things. He is one of the clearest profs I've ever had and he is such a great guy! Take his class!!!!!!
I took 3 history classes with Prof. Totten, what an amazing teacher. When someone asks me question on history, the material i present comes from him 9 out 10 times. For some reason, his methods of teaching make it stick with you. He loves history and makes you want to love it too.
He's tough because he believes in his students. There was a lot of work, but it was all relevant. Lectures are fun and casual, bring a drink/snack if you're easily tired! I learned a lot of interesting information that no other teacher has provided; he is very knowledgeable and loves what he does. Communicate and work hard, he wants you to succeed.
i had mr. totten for history and really enjoyed his class. his lectures are amazing; he's overall very knowledgable about history, clear and funny when presenting. he brings an energy to the material that makes everything interesting. the assignments can be intensive, but they test what you've learned well. i would definitely recommend this course
Jason Totten is probably one of the better teachers at Bucks. His class set up is fair and straight forward. Class consisted of weekly discussions and four major assignments across the semester. He knows his coursework very well and provides good feedback. Bonus points for using a free online textbook!
Professor Totten's class is super easy as long as you keep up with the weekly discussion posts and also don't wait till the last minute for your film review essay assignments, this class is such an easy credit and he is a funny teacher and you can tell he really loves what he teaches. Plus, free textbook! We never used it tho.
Professor Totten is amazing. I've taken three of his classes and I definitely recommend them. There's a lot of reading (as expected with History classes) and be prepared for a lot of discussion posts. Also, he has a grueling movie assignment that takes a lot of time and work. Overall, he's a funny guy who clearly cares about what he teaches.
Professor Totten is probably my fav professor, I have taken a honors history with him twice and you can tell he loves his subject. Lots of weekly discussions and such but everything is easy including tests and the film review essay. His class is death by lectures though, will say that. Overall, he is a great professor who is always willing to help.
