Attentive and approachable. Mr. Vitaich encourages interaction and welcomes varying opinions. He makes his rules and requirements very clear at the outset. The required group project was very interactive and a lot of fun. I really enjoy his style and enjoyed his class.
He's a very open-minded instructor who doesn't look down on his students for their views on politics and he doesn't push his views on politics either. He knows his stuff and does a great job of exposing the students into the world of politics.
Great Teacher, class will be hard if you don't show up. He lets you know most of what will be on the test if you show up for class, especially for practice exams. Somewhat challenging compared to other general education classes, but still one of the best teachers on campus.
Very honest teacher, will answer all your question. A tough subject, but he makes it seem easy. He'll let you speak your mind, but you may not ever know where he stands because he approaches issues neutrally. He makes politics seem like an educational necessity. All around great experience!
Jason's a great teacher, a lot of fun, imaginative and interesting, and he's not bad to look at.
Good Prof.
He is amazing. I thought I would hate the class but I loved it because he encourages discussion. Hes just really great and he knows his stuff!
Excellent professor. Clear and concise when explaining subject. He made the class challenging.
I wasn't expecting a political science class to actually catch my interest. Class notes are concise and to the point... there's nothing on the tests he hasn't covered in class, so pay attention. group project and jeopardy were fun! highly recommended =0)
He is really great. He goes out of his way to help you out with the material including practice tests!!!!! We all know how group projects are but you get through it. Lots of extra credit and a little studying the practice exams and the notes will get you a good grade.
Very Intelligent. He will get you thinking. If your having trouble understanding he will help. Wonderful teacher.
Not too hard. Hands out practice tests b4 all tests, helps a lot. Sometimes boring, sometimes fun. Lots of extra credit available. With little effort, you can get an "A". Writes LOADS of notes on the board, which gets a little tiresome. Not a "hot" geeky teacher like some said. Helpful and will explain anything you need.
Good prof for what I expected to be a blah GE class. Works with students and keeps class interesting.
pretty straight forward with what he's looking for. as long as you study you will receive a decent grade. tests are a little difficult but he gives you practice tests and EXCITING jeopardy review (with prizes!). doesn't like to be incorrect or corrected but has a good quirky sense of humor. if you don't like him initially, he'll grow on you.
Mr. Vitaich makes this class interesting. There are a lot of assignments and tests but he gives clear instruction and helps in any way he can. It doesn't hurt that he's hot and has a good sense of humor.
He is a very helpful teacher. He does write many notes, but it's for your advantage. This class is composed of: a couple term papers, group project, 4 exams, 5 current events, class participlation and attendance. Pracice exams help!! He does offer extra credit! So take up that opportunity because it will help your grade in the end.
Very helpful, make sure you ask questions, and give feedback, will help grade. Start the papers ahead of time can be time consuming.
He is a good instructor and is willing to answer questions and help in any way he can. With that being said, the class is a lot of work. If you are looking for something easy, this isn't it. You also have to do a presentation in front of the class as a group, lots of chances for extra credit.
I took his class over summer and I had to droped it because he gave so much that i wasn't able to do it.His exams are tricky and hard! Also he gives essay with each of them(like 5)and lots of articles.Don't take him.
Great prof! Even if you don't like Political Science you will like this class. He is very clear and open to questions. He encourages students to ask for help and gets to emails quickly. He makes lots of jokes during lecture and they are actually funny!
He is a great prof! I wasn't interested in POLS at all, now it is a diff story. He is knowledgeable and very informative on this subject. All around, you can get a good grade if you try. Very lax and not too stressful class.
Great professor. He is always willing to answer questions and offers great help; although, this class is definitely not easy. There are many assignments due as well as one presentation. It is not easy, but doable since he offers lots of chances for extra credit. He is a great university professor. This better be your only class. lol
He's a good teacher. His exams are TOUGH and kind of tricky but he does do jeporady for some exams so he makes it fun. Prepare for a LOT of note taking but he's extremely knowledgable. I wouldn't suggest taking it over summer because he crams a lot of info in the usual 16wks. 8wks would just be craziness!
Amazing professor. Please don't think about it anymore, just take his class. Political Science was hard for me but he was so helpful and so knowledgeable. He will do all he can for you if you just ask. Get to class early and take notes. Great teacher!
Not the easiest class in the world, but prof. Vitaich is very knowledgeable and helpful. Tests are kind of hard and there is a bit of work. Very interesting class though.
He is makes political science interesting and fun to those who want to learn. His instruction is very easy to follow, and Jason is very fair with grading. I recommend him to anybody who is not really in to political science.
Prof. Vitaich is a great instructor. The class is subject matter that is difficult for some people, but he knows the subject and helps people understand. A lot of work in this class, but don't be lazy and you will get a lot out of it.
Fantastic professor! He actually made a subject I had little to no interest in interesting and even fun. The work is time intensive and requires a lot of studying and research, but if you put in the leg work, you'll do just fine.
AMAZING teacher. So funny! Lots of notes, but he makes them worth-while. Group project is easy if everyone participates & final is not necessary (if other tests were taken). Best teacher at ARC, hands down.
I'm not a fan of government classes but he made it fun. He is very clear on what he expects and helpful when you need it. Practice exams and jeopardy review is extremely helpful for the tests. Group project try to keep it simple and interesting to all your group members otherwise it will be stressful. TONS of extra credit. Great teacher!
Great teacher! Very interesting, always very clear when answering student questions. Take notes on everything, and study hard for each test and you'll be fine. Even if you are just takiking POLS because you have to or got stuck with it, this guy will keep you interest in his lectures. TAKE HIS CLASS!
He puts questions on tests that are not even in the book, questions are tricky. Hard grader on the essays takes a lot of points off not even because you make a mistake but because your essays aren't long enough even though he doesn't specify how long he wants them to be.Explains well, not a boring class, good communication and overall good teacher
Overall good teacher. Essay and analytical term paper instructions need to be clearer though. Doesn't give clear guidelines for group project either. Be prepared to ask lots of questions to make sure you meet his expectations, which are fairly high. Makes the content easy to understand. You will need the book as some questions not covered in class.
He's probably the most enthusiastic (read: non boring) poli sci professor you can find in the region. Fair grader, great preparations for exams and funny. And I took this over the summer. Don't slack off and you'll get a lot out of this class and a decent grade too.
you have 5 exams multiple choice, tf, and essay question. he tells you the essay question in advance the last test your essay is take home. analytic paper was tough. everything else super easy!
I highly recommend this teacher for several reasons. First off, he is FUNNY! There were times during the lecture where I was wondering if I was in a comedy show or a class. Seriously, You will know exactly what you are expected to learn. Not for Slackers! Pay attention, want to learn, and you will leave more enlightened than when you arrived.
This professor has great class discussions. You definitely learn about the political process. The work load is heavy for a summer class. There is a major group project and a paper. I did enjoy the class but really worked for my grade.
I had taken a political science class the previous semester, came out with a D. Then I decided to retake the class with prof. Vitaich, came out with a solid B, and legitimately enjoyed the experience. Nuff said.
Really great professor who is helpful and knows what he's talking about. He's funny but it's hard to laugh when the class is at 8am. There is one group project but he gives you sufficient time to do it like all other assignments. Your grade is what you put in your work. Would take him again.
Prof. Vitaich is upbeat, funny and clear in his lectures. Grades on a 1,000 point scale to make things easy to calculate yourself. Gives you TONS of extra credit and makeups and works around busy schedules as long as you put in effort. 2 5 page reports due for the class along with Group Proj. but very easy given his grading criteria.
Took his hybrid 8-week class. VERY easy-going and funny. Five 2-page article response summaries, 5 exams (but drops 1), 1 group presentation, two 5-page papers, takes attendance. Gives all the material for the test and samples of previous papers on d2l, so no need to buy the book. Everything was turned in online. Grades quickly. Awesome professor!
For POLS 301 there are two 5 to 6 page papers due during the middle and end of the semester. If you hate group projects this isn't the class for you, he only gives one group project but it's worth ten percent. He gives five tests, the lowest test grade is dropped at the end of the semester and he gives lots of extra credit. Great professor overall.
he is very vague about important projects (group project, term paper etc.) hes funny/nice. would recommend if youre NOT a Pols major, would not recommend if you ARE a Pols major.
Professor Vitaich was amazing! He gave us enough time to do our assignments and seems to really care about students grades. Exams were easy as long as you did the study guides, studied the practice exams and jeopardy. I would take him again!
If you don't know a thing about government this is a great class. government is the last thing I am interested in and I actually found his lectures interesting. He makes expectations clear and his assignments are clear. most assignments you will get full credit if you follow directions and turn it in. lots of extra credit and NO FINAL!
Professor Vitaich is an amazing professor. I took his POLS 301 class in the summer for 8 weeks and I had a blast. He made the material more interesting; there were review games before tests. The tests had easy extra credit options that he told us about before the test so that we could prepare for it. I loved this class!
I think Professor Jason was a very cool teacher. Hes very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches and does a good job and lectures and provide you with notes to make your study easy. This professor is the best teacher that I have ever had in college other than one Jennifer scalzi.
Prof. Vitaich expects a lot from the students. There was a total of 2 essays/ writing projects. One group presentation. 5 exams. A lot of work if are taking other courses. Do not recommend to take it in the summer. 8 weeks to do 2 essays, 1 presentation and study for 5 exams. You are pretty much busy every week. 5 short essays as well.
Lots of work in this class not for non majors
Professor VItaich was good professor. He was very knowledgable in the subject. The tests were mostly lecture based. 2 essays, 1 group presentation, 5 tests. plenty of opportunities for extra credit. taken over summer. The class is mostly back loaded projects and presentations in the second half. He is a fair grader gave you the benefit of the doubt
Good professor, took him over summer, and breezed through material
Pretty good professor dont slack off bc its easygoing tho keep up with due dates
The extra credit will save you dont worry thanks prof youre amazing extra cred Jeopardy game was cool
Hes good no complaints from me
Honestly just pay attention to his lectures because that's what is going to be on his exams and you'll pass with an easy A.
He is a great teacher. Be ready to come to class and learn. He does reviews before the exam and gives a practice test. If you study practice test you will do fine.
I had Jason for POLS 301 over the summer. His grading criteria was very clear and offers extra credit which can boost your grade by a maximum of 5 percent. As long as you care and are willing to some work he is there to help. For example, you can give him assignments well before the due date and he will tell you how to make it into an A paper.
Professor Vitaich was a better teacher in person, once we went online he basically didn't do anything for our class. I found his syllabus confusing in regards to how he wanted assignments formatted and exactly what he was looking for, but if you are good at self managing and don't need a lot of help staying on track, his class might work for you.
Took professor Vitaich during summer semester online. He doesn't give much instruction but if you are good with online structure then I definitely recommend him. He is an easy grader. All of the info you need for the exams are provided within the module. Do the work and it will be an easy A. He also zeros out your lowest exam + extra credit.
I took this class online over the summer and it was pretty straight forward, he graded my work fast and was very lenient. Grade consists of a 5pg book analysis on a minority group, current event summary's, a group project, tests and a final 4-6pg essay. The tests are lengthy but he gives study guides and lecture notes, I hardly used the book.
The class is good if you like to work very independently. He switched this class to online and didnt make any accommodations for us. There is zero instruction for any assignments. You have to just look at the examples and figure it out. 5 exams, 2 essays, 1 group project, and 5 current event papers. The textbook didnt help me out at all.
I can't say for sure if it's because of the sudden change to online schooling, but this professor made it a bit difficult for me. He wasn't very clear on the instructions of the assignments throughout the semester. Although they were fairly easy notes and readings, there were about 5 exams and 2 papers, along with a group project.
Professor Vitaich made Government fun. Lectures are long, but he makes it clear on what the exams will be on and gives great study guides to work on. The lectures are also made on media player so you can pause and go back if needed. Lots of extra credit opportunities as well.
Ok professor. Fully online with exam lectures on the modules. If you enjoy self learning, this class is for you. Professor just reads off the PowerPoints. Two essays, one group project, four exams, and five current events.
Great professor, makes the class very easy!
I took this class asynchronous. Professor Vitaich gave little to no instruction on all assignments. I had to go back and look through the modules to get clear instruction. 5 exams, 2 papers, 1 group project, and 5 mini papers. Do the work and you'll get an A
Made political science via an asynchronous platform enjoyable. Took him through FLC. 5 exams, couple projects and essays, couple current events, and that's it. Really put your effort into every assignment for every point matters; there are just a few items in the gradebook. Really amiable and cool guy during office hours. Class was very easy for me
This professor should not call himself a professor. He lacks the basic teaching skills example being he only does voice text lectures not a single video rubric outline or piece of anything to help you with your assignments does not respond to emails honestly feels like he does not care if you take this class be prepared to be stressed and cry
Hes a cool teacher. Knows his stuff. Very manageable class. The instructions were not always word for word, however don't stress. Follow HIS EXAMPLES & U WILL SUCCEED. Also, he gives you what you need to know for Tests on handouts. Not too much work, however that is your grade. POLS is not my subject, however I am glad I took this class with him.
If you thought taking this professor's 8 week classes would mean avoiding group projects or large papers, think again. Voice only lecture that is hard to follow along with. Reads slides verbatim with little explanation or elaboration. Textbook "required", but not really used. Big group project, big paper, and 1 last minute take-home essay.
For this course to be a required general ed course was crazy! Pretty chill but the tests were really intense and difficult. The group project was difficult especially with my assigned group. Also took a little bit of time to respond via email and harsh grader!!! I am so glad this class is over!!
Gives good online reference materials, and for online classes you're pretty much independently have to complete everything. Does respond to email and is fair and allows extra credit, but you have to work for it.
Not a very engaging Professor. His lecturing is a bit dry. I will say that he is VERY knowledgeable in his subject. If you have a good attention span and genuinely want to learn - he's great. However, he is a very tough grader when it comes to his quizzes. In the sense of he expects you to remember minute details off his lectures. But workable.
A lot of these reviews are regarding the weekly "current event" papers. You write about something you saw in the news and give your opinion on it, nothing too big. Easiest teacher I've taken yet--im a junior at Sacramento State taking lower division. A++++ for Professor V.
This class' hw load is every week to every other week. there are small 1-2 paper reports on current US events, there's a unit exam every month (which are timed 2hr), and there's an analytical paper and a group project. If you really put effort into the assignments, you'll do fine. Prof Jason gives good feedback and overall, taught a good gov class.
Overall, enjoyable and pretty straightforward class. Professor Vitaich was very accessible and has useful resources for all of projects/papers we wrote. Grades pretty quickly too.
exams were on canvas: multiple choice and essay response. He provides the essay question in class before the exam, and the exam is open for 3 days. There's one group project, but he grades people individually. Would take attendance but did not grade it.
I don't particularly like politics but this professor is hands down the chilliest professor I've take both in city college and university. There is a presentation which is meh but everything is good.
The exams are very heavy and close together. I find that for his online class, the group project guidelines are not very well articulated. This class is not an easy one even for good students. If you aren't an avid studier then I wouldn't take this professor for this class.
Very good teacher! Very understanding. There is no reason not to get an A if you attend class. Offers so much extra credit. very friendly and doesn't assign too much homework. Allows late work if needed.
Vitaich is a nice guy, but he is a TOUGH professor. He was fairly understanding, but he graded harshly and expected a LOT of work. I took an 8-week class and feel like the workload was more intense than all of my other 8-week classes. Also, online courses are not exempt from a group presentation. Take it if you need it, but get ready.
I took his POLS1 class at Sac State. Very understanding and kind. Gives very clear instructions on assignments and provides lots of helpful materials on canvas.
Online class but I did go to zoom a lot, and he is so NICE. If you show you care about your grade, he will help you and actually care. I really liked him a lot just from the interactions I had during his zoom office hours. He also answered every question I had and NEVER got irritated with the number of questions, very patient and understanding.
This wasn't a bad course overall but it had a lot of writing. I wrote as much for this class as I did for my writing course. If you're okay with writing, you will be fine. The exams also have an essay question where you have to answer the question in detail otherwise he will take points off. Hard grader. This class also has a group project.
Had a group project that had 8 members. required 3 pages of information per group member. gave 30 mins to present but started the timer before the group even got up there. Forced the rest of the class to ask questions which also counted on the clock. No group was able to present everything and points were taken off the assignment as a result.
Only about 5 assignments, 1 group project, and 3 exams. Overall, best professor out of all the political science profs in Los Rios Colleges.
