I took the online class. The work load is a bit intense. Definitely not an easy class. In fact, I think it's next to impossible to get an A. I learned a lot, and he's very nice and helpful though.
Just took Prof. Walker's on-line class. 1to2 chapters a week, 1 assignment, 1 quiz(multiple attempts), and 2 discussion boards each chapter. If you are looking for an easy A don't take this class BUT if you want to learn something and take a teacher that is willing to help you then take this class. If you put in the work you can get an A, I did.
he is strict on grammer! in the quizes and exams, i put Lysosome instead of LysosomeS and he marked it wrong. he is very chearfull and explains very well, he has powerpoint lectures online that you can print out to follow along with his lectures. his labs are easy and group choice is up to you. he gives awesome examples and tries to work with you.
This teacher, while adorable & funny, likes to give trick questions. He is strict on spelling but you can have him check your spelling if you're in doubt. I got a B on 1 exam, C's on 2 more exams, failed 1 exam, & failed the final. However, I did every lab (easy), every online quiz (difficult but OPEN BOOK), & came out with a high B.
Professor Walkers class was very intresting. I personally could care less about Biology but he made his lectures fun and he is also very easy on the eyes : ) Do the master study guide and his exams will be a breeze. Oh Never Be late to lab or lecture at that it really bothers him.
He's an amazing teacher! He's extremely informative and very excited about this class. his labs are fun and educational. If you have any slight interest in this kind of class, you'll enjoy it. He does expect you to learn the information but you never really mind because he makes it interesting. You'll get an A if you pay attention and do the work.
Amazing! Very passionate about his class and makes it so interesting. He's funny and understandable. He still has high standards for the class but he makes it all fun to learn. Definitely take this guy!
Do not take with a full course load. The assignments take hours of research. Saw about 25% of class dropped within the first two weeks. Expects the internet to be your teacher when the assignments that he gives needs teacher instruction. He is nice but not a great teacher.
Took this class online. Class is not a hard class howeve his worksheets (which were given with EVERY chapter) can be very time consuming. You have 1 or 2 discussion every week based on chapters that are covered, a quiz for each chapter, 4 exams and a project. Very Passable just not with a full work load.
I chose this professor based on ratings-I really regret it now. The Lab worksheets are very long and the instructions are quite obtuse or non-existent. After the first one was graded, I made sure to email him on every Lab to be sure I was doing it correctly - and I wasn't. He would give me further instructions in email that wern't on the worksheet
Great teacher!! Super nice, dorky likes to make jokes. Definitely had my attention all semester "looks wise" lol really helpful when I had questions and only made me feel retarded if he was joking. All together a great teacher! Definitely recommend
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WISH To SUCCEED! He is a nice person, but terrible with teaching. His labs are super long and confusing. Instruction is minimal and he never tells you how your doing. I never got more than a D on a test and i knew the material. He never once showed me my tests either after grading. It's also mostly open answers. >:(
Dr. Walker is THE BEST professor I have ever had. He is extraordinarily passionate about Biology, and his enthusiasm bleeds into every class and lab. However, his classes are challenging. He actually expects you to know the material. However, if you follow the "Master Study Guide" religiously and drill them on notecards, making an A is possible.
AWESOME PROFESSOR. I took Dr. Conner for BSC2010. While she is nice, Dr. Walker is much more organized. He has online videos of his lectures. He gives you the Powerpoints for the whole class. Just be sure to know the information on the study guide for the exams. He is making his own labs, which are super helpful at reinforcing lecutre material.
Professor Walker is an extraordinary teacher. His class is very rewarding if you put the time into it, but it is by no means an easy A. I especially appreciated his lecture videos on youtube. Check them out: youtube_dot_com/urbanecologist
Great Instructor for his online Biology class! Too much work thrown at you for his Summer Bio-Lab class- I dropped the Lab. It is a fast paced class; to point, we had 2 weeks where there 3 weeks worth of work that was due each week... each week! If this is your only class, Take him; He is a great instructor. If you have a full schedule, good luck.
The information to learn in this class is easy. The workload is a bit excessive. I am taking this class along with 2 eight week fast pace classes. There is far more work involved in this one class than my other two combined. The work is very time consuming. If you have a lot going on, you might want to skip this class for now.
Dr. Walker is an extremely organized, passionate professor. All his lectures are online. He provides a study guide, which if you REALLY study, you will do well on his exams. He is currently writing his own lab manual, which seamlesslessly integrates information from lecture in a hands on format. While his class is demanding, he is eager to help.
The best professor I''ve had yet! His style of teaching made the course interesting-clear and very informative. Loved the class!! He cares about his students and wants to see them pass. He will help with anything, anytime you need it! Dr. Walker makes class interesting while piling on a heaping helping of knowledge. He is an exceptional professor.
Though I don't care for science much, professor Walker is one of FSCJ's best instructors.Like many below me have said,PowerPoints, lectures, and study guides for every chapter are available from the onset of the class. If you do all of your homework and really study for the tests an A is very obtainable.
Professor Walker is awesome. He really goes in to depth with out being long winded. All of our work consisted of labs and on line quiz which were relatively easy because we mostly everything in groups. I wouldn't say that his class is easy but there is no reason why you should get at least a B in his class. But if you miss 3 labs you auto/fail.
Dr Walker is sweet, very helpful, and funny. He has a passion for biology that is clearly seen when he lectures. His four tests come straight from the master study guide that he provides. There are weekly multiple choice 10 question quizzes on blackboard. There are weekly easy labs. Lots of extra credit. Moderately easy class.
Discussion board is horrible. He expects you to follow a grading rubric that doesn't give you all of his expectations on it. He takes them WAY to seriously for an online liberal arts bio lab that is only one credit hour. I tried my best on them and still he was harsh! Almost an A to knock me out of 4.0
WAY too harsh on grading. Took the biology and bio lab class at the same time online both taught by him. He expects way too much in his discussions. I didn't receive a perfect score on anything besides the quizzes I took myself. I do not recommend him. Way too complicated.
Extremely hard on discussions. Follows the rubric to a T. You get 2 chances to take the quizzes and he takes the higher grade. 5 Assignments that aren't too hard. Quizzes and Exams are pretty easy but discussions are a killer.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I had a full course load and his mountains of work made this semester pure misery. He is a HARSH grader. Discussion boards and assignments are a huge part of the grade and he refuses to give full credit where it's due! NO STUDY GUIDES or help at all! I'm a 4.0 student and barely passed with a B. Class entirely self taught.
There are two Jason Walkers that teach biology at F.S.C.J.. The Instructor that I took taught at Kent Campus. Professor Walker is awesome. He's very passionate about his work and uses a sort of Socratic teaching style while he lectures. He does not use discussion boards and no textbook is nessacary. We took 3 test only and he drops the lowest grade.
DR.Walker is a very excellent professor. I was a struggling student when it comes to biology but the way he teaches and is so helpful he made learning biology fun and easy to comprehend. I AM THANKFUL FSCJ HIRED AN Amazing (AND VERY HANDSOME I MIGHT ADD) TEACHER LIKE DR.WALKER.please take him, you will never regret it!!
I love him
Really enjoyed class
Best teacher ever..
Great
Super good teacher knows what he is doing
He's extremely cool.
Hybrid class, easy lab great teacher (:
You're awesome!!!! Great Teacher. Take him.
Easy class. Cool guy. Do the work and you will pass.
The professor is very laid back, cool, and understanding, made this class very fun and very interesting and worthwhile. Definitely recommend taking this professor.
Great professor, good sense of humor, easy labs. Quizzes were online and they were open book/notes/online anything. Exams were alright if you watched his lecture videos(:
Makes information abundantly available and very easily accessible. Course doesn't require a chemistry background, but I would strongly recommend getting through CHM 1 before attempting. Dr. Walker is an awesome person who has conducted some remarkable studies.
Mr. Walker truly was an amazing professor! :) I enjoyed having him teach biology! I am taking him in the summer for the second half! He made learning easier :)
Dr. Walker is a very good professor. KNOW the study guide and all the details. If you do not know a detail, ask him and he will help you. There are weekly quizzes that are easy. The labs are easy. 3 lab quizzes. Offers some EC. Very ease class if you study. He offers online videos too to help.
Mr. Walker was a very helpful teacher. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions!
This is a very we'll guided class. He takes the time to make sure that everyone has a chance to get a full understanding of the information.
He is a good understanding professor that doesn't require so much. Always allows you the opportunity for extra credit and makes the class understandable without using the textbook.
Jason Walker was very helpful. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions.
Good professor, the work is a little tough but he genuinely has an interest in the material and will answer any of your questions. I liked how he set up the class and would take any other subject he taught if I needed it. I highly suggest him if you learn better independently from other students. Plus he seems like a cool guy.
Great teacher easy and straight forward, also will love to help you if you have any questions or concerns. The he teaches Bio makes it easy and fun.
Biology is not my strenght, but professor Walker made the class as easy as he could for our group. I loved the activities, and definitely helped my learning, they were also great study guides. You definitely have to make an effort in watching the slides and answering the questions, but the professor will answer any questions IN DETAIL.
Prof Walker's class was the best summer class I've taken so far. Instead of condensing an entire textbook into one short semester he focused on one specific topic so we actually learned in detail the content which we were being taught. He made awesome study guides, didn't exclusively use blackboard (YAY), and really answered questions in detail.
2nd attempt at this class. Prof. Walker changed the structure of the class which in my opinion was much better. Lectures were online which made it easy to go back and review. Class activities were hands on with small packets that also aided in review. Quizzes are online and open book with no time limit. Do the work and you'll pass the class. :)
Technical names are very difficult to assimilate, need to have a method to simplify technical for species.
Very good class. It was hard, but if you study you will do great.
This class was interesting, Prof.Walker is great, and helpful. his format is a little different , He post lectures, I would prefer an inclass lecture just so I can get clarity immediately. He provides a study guide which is helpful. Liked the class .
Good teacher. Always give you better opportunity to understand everything. Very helpful. No mandatory attendance
Jason is a pretty laid back Professor that wants his students to succeed but will not do the work for you. His class is great for the self motivated indivudal who does not need a lot of guidance. I would highly recommend his class, you will not be disappointed.
Proff Walker is extremely insightful and even more helpful. The only thing I didn't like about this class is the fact that the lectures are online, you can however ask questions about the lectures before each class begins.
Really good professor and gives multiple extra credit opportunities to help boost your grade.
Walker is very down to earth and understanding. Quizzes are online. In class labs and drawings. EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES!!!
Although this was a condensed class I felt it very informative. Mr. Walker is exceptionally knowlewdgeable on the subject and has no problem going into further detail. I would recommend the guy for future students!
Great teacher. Willing to help a student with any question to better understand the concepts. Gives you the tools to complete the work, its just up to the student to follow through.Get all the work done, study, and ask questions to guarantee an A or B.I recommend him for anyone who hasn't taken bio yet.
Professor Walker is a very interesting, fun, and knowledgeable guy. I took this class during the summer in 6 weeks so the material was very condensed. Not a hard class if you do the in class activities and study guides( some are 60 questions long) they will help you tremendously on tests. Class was laid back but again you must study.
IJUST LOVE THIS PROF. He's VERY SMART AND WILLING TO HELP. I HAVE A NEW APPRECEATION FOR BIOLOGY, THANKS TO PROFF WALKER!!
Great professor to take biology with. Hands-on activities with self-directed readings offer a fresh take on biology rather than monotonous lectures. Highly recommend for those interested or with little to zero interest in biology. Don't be late
Jason Walker overall is anexceptionl professor. He keeps things interesting and its pretty straight forward. And for the most part its a laid back class and if you stay on track you will do good.
Jason Walker biology course was a great learning environment. I really enjoyed the extra credit opportunities he offered . There wasn't a lot of test and he didn't just lecture all the time but instead the class watched video, the class drew examples of plants and animals for work and he also had study guides on blackboard for the test he gave out.
I feel he was very friendly and easy to approach with questions. He would explain the content thoroughly and make it easily understandable. I would suggest however to not take a Summer course due to the material being so condensed. Overall I enjoyed his class.
Dr. Walker is a very cool professor. I would have made a much better grade if I would have studied harder. The only way you fail this class is you don't study. the material is there for you if you apply. easy A.
Jason Walker is a great professor. Video lectures and labs are very helpful towards exams. The most important thing I would say is completing the study guide. Format of the course is great and he is there to answer any questions you have.
Professor Walker Is easy to approach with questions. Here will explain it so the material is easier to understand. Taking the class in the summer requires more studying, but overall study and the class is easy.
One of my favorite teachers that I have had in over three years of college. The class is easy, fun, and simple. If you do as he says and study the study guide you will pass the class. And the text book is online and free but you may not even need it.
This class is very easy to follow. He is very helpful when someone doesn't understand. He makes every effort to make sure that everyone understands the material.
Professor Walker is very laid back and comes into class very enthused. He wants the students to actually learn the material so studying is the key to passing his class. If you come to class do the labs, don't miss any quizzes , and study the study guides he has prepared for you it will be hard to fail this class. I enjoyed his energy cool/funny guy
Professor Walker is an interesting teacher. I very much enjoyed the class, although I could have gotten a better grade, it is my fault as I could have done more for my grade.. The exams, for me seemed to be worded weirdly, I often came across problems that I had no recollection of from the study guide. I did feel a bit intimidated being in class.
He is awesome and super cool! He always comes to class with a smile and is willing to help if you need it. All the material is basically online and he answers any questions in class. Just study the study guides and you'll be fine. Labs are also pretty fun but can get confusing sometimes. He's an all around awesome Professor!
Relatable and enthusiastic. Good use of analogies in lectures. Quizzes adequately hard in preparation for tests. All around solid.
Professor walker is a pretty cool teacher, the class is very easy. All you have to do is study and you can pass the class. He presents the material very well and clear, and gives us all the information needed to succeed in the class. He's easy to approach with questions and for the most apart he answers the question I ask. Overall good teacher.
This was definitely a challenging course but Professor Walker was there to walk you through anything you didn't understand the whole time. Everything was very organized and followed a specific routine each week that made it much easier to follow the material. I would recommend him to anyone, especially if you aren't confident in a science class.
Jason walker is one of the best professors I heave had on this campus. He makes learning interesting, and your not just sitting there listening to a boring lecture for 3hours. He actually care about his students and wants them to succeed. I am taking his biology2 class next semester and I am looking forward to his smiling face again. Awesome class!
Prior to taking Principles of Biology 1 with Professor Walker, I didn't know a thing about Biology, but now I have learned so much. Professor Walker really makes it easier to understand certain principles in Biology, and also provides us with labs that are both fun and challenging in order help us to comprehend certain concepts.
Jason Walker is a great professor! He wants to help you understand everything in this course and always spends time in class for the students to ask him any questions. He also responds quickly to emails. I took a hybrid course with him. I really liked how the lectures can be found online and classes are for lab and questions. Highly recommended!
He's a very layed back and fun professor. But he'll also take as much time as necessary to make sure the students understand the work. And the class is easy if you listen and actually try because he really goes into detail about the subject. My only thing is that I was never interested in science subjects much, but he made it interesting and fun.
Professor walker class is very helpful. He gives us a website to go on so that we can listen to his lectures, but also he asks every class do we have any questions and he will take the whole entire class period if he has to to answer any questions that a person has. This was probably the most awesome class that i have taken take him he is great.
If you want an easy a and actually want to understand the content on which you made an a on this is the class for you he is helpful thoughtful understable patient relatable hilarious teacher.
Professor Walker was easy and clear. Enjoyed the class, and if you take the labs, quizzes and study guides seriously it's an easy A.
I took biology in high school and this is my first college biology and it kicked my butt. But if I have any questions or concerns about the work he is always availbe and helpful. The only thing I dibn't like is the lectures are online and not in class.
This was a good class. I just wish there were more lectures in class then online. But he was very helpful with answering any of my questions. This class was my most hardest class and yet it was okay.
Jason makes the class interesting everyday & is very easy going & relaxed. Lots of extra credit opportunities that help u in the long run. Took this class in 6 weeks & it was very accelerated, tests sometimes twice a week but it was easier than I expected from a bio 2 class. Take it!!!!
Great teacher. He is willing to work with you. Very clearly explains his ideas. The study guides are a must. Fun teacher to be around
Walker is very engaging and keeps a high energy level throughout the course. Responsive to emails and questions in class. Will pass if you listen to the lectures and do the study guides. Only complaint is that the videos do not match the slide/study guide sometimes - this caused some frustration while studying.
I have taken professor walker for both bsc2010 and 2011. I would take him for every possible class he would offer. His classes are engaging and easy to understand. He is very helpful and reviews before exams for extra clarity. Honestly the best professor I have had at FSCJ.
Professor Walker is very knowledge of the course study. He is very interactive with the class and easy to talk to.
Jason Walker is an awesome professor and was super helpful through out the course. He responds to email within a couple hours and the responses are actually helpful. He also plays music while we are working on labs which really helped my concentration. walker was clear about his expectations for the class from the beginning.
He is extremely helpful. One of the best teachers I have had. Always answers any questions and truly wants you to do well. Doesn't try to trick you on tests, quizzes aren't timed, lowest test dropped. He is easy to talk to and does a review before each exam. The hybrid class is quick so it's a lot of info but he does what he can to make it simple.
Very deligent professor makes sure that you understand all the material you have been given, even thought the tests are a little bit hard if you study the study guide you will definitely get an A
I took professor Walker for the summer semester (hybrid 6 was course). He gives you everything you need to succeed in the course. Study guides are fool proof and he is always eager to answer questions. You have to work though. This isn't an easy A subject. He obviously enjoys his classes and wants you to succeed. Would definitely take him again.
He gives a lot of extra credit. His voice on his online lecture videos is so soothing I fell asleep watching every one of them. He is pretty goofy, but it adds character. The test are not super hard, but you do have to study to get a good grade. He drops the lowest test score, and the labs are fun. Take the class, it's worth it!
Extremely easy to understand, passionate about what he is teaching, very funny. Any and all questions answered and plays smooth jazz during labs which is kinda distracting but different.
Short 6 week course, learned & retained a lot more information than expected. Class was interesting and entertaining. The extra credit opportunities enhanced the learning material. Book although cheap, was not that great.
Good professor. Very helpful and straight forward class. Only complaint is that he gives study guides out with anywhere from 100-180 questions on it. And then the test have anywhere from 12-25 multiple choice questions with about 5 shirt answer. So it is pretty discouraging to put so much time into the study guides and studying, for 30 questions.
This was by far one of the best teachers I've had. He is a lively person and it's obvious he loves what he does. I would highly recommend you take this class if you have the opportunity. He offers tons of extra credit which is great!!!!! Study and do the assignments and you'll be fine!!!!
The class was interesting and fun for a 6 week class. The one thing I would like to see improve on is the lecture slides. Even though the lecture video is there to help explain, some students like myself would rather see the details in the slides than watching the video. Also, the quizzes with pics. don't show up making it harder to answer.
This professor is one of the best I've had at fscj. I took the 8wks hybrid. He has all the chip lectures on YouTube just watch the videos. Also has a review on test day before every test. The labs are nothing more than handouts that you fill in. Lab quizzes are open book. Grade tests ~50%, quizzes ~30%, labs ~20%. Drops lowest lab and test.
This professor is great he provides you with all materials that means power points lecture videos and electronic book. If you come to class study the videos and notes you will succeed. He is very helpfull and is great at answering and explaining questions you my have. There is also opportunity for extra credit which is great. Excellent professor.
Dr. Walker is a great professor. He literally wrote the lab book for his class. He has created a web site to go with it along with YouTube videos for each lecture. Will go above and beyond to help you understand the material.
Great professor I would take him again!
I would take this class again to perform better as a student.
His class is amazing . I took him for both BIO 1 &2 . There are many opportunities for you get lesson online and study guild is a must to do.
Interesting lectures. Professor Walker's study guide is really helpful for you to prepare for the exams.
Professor Walker took a very hands on approach with his students. He is really great about spending one-one time with students who need it and further explaining the material in ways where everyone can understand.
Very good professor. Just be sure to study and do your work.
He gives you extra credit opportunities and the lecture videos really help with studying. Plus, the tests are based on the study guides and you get to use your lab on the lab quizzes.
Prof. Walker is the best at what he does. The lectures are simple, easy and not too long. Anytime you miss one, he already has them online along with the study guides. His teachings leaves you with a clear understanding of was taught.
Dr. Walker is very willing to help students who are proactive and seek help. He provides students with all the materialsinformation they need to succeed and invites students to reach out to him for additional aid or to search the internet. He is fair and genuinely wants students to learn and enjoy the class. He is both personable and approachable
The class was informative, held my attention , and the professor made the subject material very easy to wrap my head around. Professor will help with any questions and has extra credit opportunities in case you miss something. Awesome professor, and I would recommend him for any science class!!!
Best biology professor I've taken. He has YouTube lectures and study guides and asks the class if there are any questions from the study guide first thing. He's very nice and it's worth coming into class. I've taken him for both biology classes. Would take again!
Do not buy the book you'll never open it! Easy going, test are difficult although he gives lots of extra credit. Labs are very interesting! Lectures are not mandatory although he helps explains the information better. Drops the lowest exam and lab grade at the end of the semester.
Tests are difficult. Do the study guides and the lecture videos on his website are pretty helpful. Lectures are not mandatory becauSe of this. There's also a weekly online quiz due every Sunday night. He's a solid professor.
In this class you are going to have to work hard and study. All of his lectures are online if you ever miss a class, however actually showing up for the lecture helps you better understand the material because he goes more in depth in class. Don't miss a lab otherwise you won't receive points for it. Do the study guides!! They really help!
He is a good teacher but the course is stressful you have to put in a good amount of study time for test. Other than that the teacher is really good and willing to help.
This class is really easy to pass as long as you take the time to study for the tests, complete the labs, and do the online quizzes. He is very corny, but it helps make the lectures more interesting. If you have the chance to take his class, take it.
He is an overall good professor. He doesn't give much work, quizes every sunday night are easy, exams are quite easy as well. He is nice he will help you if you need any help but if you mess up he will let you know that its on you to pull yourself back up.
He is pretty chill and will help you if you have any questions. Come to lectures and do the study guide and you should get an A
This class is not an easy A but, you still can pass. Make sure you play close attention to his lectures and do the study guides as well. The study guides are long but they are worth it.
Don't buy the book. You won't use it. Also, show up for lectures and do the study guides and you'll be fine. Tests are hard but if you study, you'll pass.
The guy is cool, chill and funny but his study guides he give are fairly long
Overall a great teacher. I hated science but he makes it very interesting. I loved this teacher TAKE HIM! Dual enrollment students trust me too!
Participation is key in this class
Professor Walker is pretty cool! The class was very HELPFUL!!!
Lectures and labs are super important to attend. Tests are difficult if you don't do the study guide. Extremely personable and not boring.
Personally I had an extremely hard time with the tests in this class, the amount of content needed to memorize between all 4 tests was huge, which usually amounted to the information of 3-4 sometimes 5 weeks being compiled into one test. If a test a week was given on the lecture that week, many students grades would be much higher.
Prof. Walker is an awesome prof.! He taught us a lot of information and he teaches it in a way that helps me understand. The quizzes have been difficult for me and the exams are half multiple choice and half short responses. Just study, take notes and you will do great!
Dr. Walker is the best professor on campus by far. His lectures are very clear and he is really helpful. Do his study guides and will pass his tests no problem.
He was a very helpful professor, his tests are easy for the most part. Very easy to find out your grade he gives you a checklist, and overall he is a GREAT professor
Awesome professor! Hilarious! He has his own website with lecture notes and slides. Learnt a lot, I will definitely recommend him for biology. Not an easy class but once you do the work you won't regret choosing him
This professor definitely knows his material to present to the class. His personal website with lecture slides help with preparing for the study guides and tests. I personally struggle with science and struggled through this course, so it is challenging if you're not extremely interested in science.
Do the study guides and the tests are easy. Usually got out of class early.
His lectures are amazing. I didn't study for anything past the first two weeks of class and still was able to ace the exams. He also has his own website where he puts everything you would need to study effectively. Probably one of the most modern teacher I have ever had.
He is very helpful. He knows his stuff and is more than happy to share it to whoever will listen. His tests are a little hard but he gives you everything you need to pass them.
He's super clear on what is expected and gives awesome lectures. He has the textbook and study guides for each exam online (as well as shortened lectures just in case you miss class).
He is fun and energetic. He makes sure to make the lectures clear and answer any questions you have. If you miss a lecture they are all online. Exams are really easy if you make index cards with the study guides and actually study. I only spend a few hours studying and have made all A's! Great course! I'm definitely going to take his next course.
Walker is an interesting lecturer. The labs are fun and very hands on and he plays music during. The material is tough but he gives good study guides. If you don't study you won't do well. The earlier you start studying the better you will fare. He posts recorded lectures online which is super helpful! Currently have an A and predict to maintain.
Jason is a great professor. If you show up to lectures and take notes and actively pay attention you will do good. Labs are great and he will help you if you have any issues. The Tests are pretty easy if you take notes and re-watch his lecture videos online. I passed the class with a 100 avg. By re-watching his lecture videos.
Prof. Walker makes the material in his class very easy to understand. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed and has easy-to-follow lectures. If you miss anything, the lectures are online. The study guides are basically a copy of the tests so, FILL THEM OUT! This class is fun, and if you pay attention and do the work, you'll get an A.
Study and get an A
Professor Walker is an amazing professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches even if it isn't his main interest. He is easy to feel a connection with in class, and he made me love Biology even more than I already did. I don't really have any complaints, but I feel that his tests could be hard for others since a lot of it is short answers.
Love love love this class! Best teacher ever!
Very good teacher and always willing to help. The only con is that his 12 week class is a little rushed and doesn't give much room for error with his grading. He does provide roughly two labs worth of extra credit to help pad your grade and he drops the lowest exam and quiz grade. Overall the information he provides is very clear.
Get more computer friendly.
Labs could be more hands on and less reading and drawing.
Very straightforward professor. Makes class fun. His test are easy as long as you do your quizzes and study guides. Would take him again.
Great teacher, got straight to the point. No lengthy lectures, offered help when needed. Has study guides already made out for you to fill in. They typically line up with the tests, so do your study guided and you'll do well. He has a set calender in the beggining of the semester so you'll know what when things are due. Overall, great professor.
I like how make the class much easier that it looks, and his test are very easy, also ge gives enough credit that will help you recover the bad grades and change your grade from B to A
He really knows his stuff. Quizzes are tricky but very helpful. Take the notes and do the study guides and actually study them and you wont have any problems.
He is a good professor, but the class is pretty tough. I took hybrid so his lectures are online, at times it can be confusing but you have the opportunity to ask questions the next class. You just really have to focus and pay attention if you want to do well. This is my first hybrid class and I'm not sure I would take another one.
Really clear and willing to answer questions. Provides a relaxed stress free learning environment that makes learning enjoyable. I would have liked to see him post our grades online more to check my progress throughout the course but other than that, I would definitely take him again.
Prof. Walker gives you everything you need to succeed in his class. He breaks all of the information down into nice, easy to understand chunks, which makes the material much easier to understand. If you fill out the study guides he provides and do the online quizzes, you should have no problem getting an "A". You actually learn in this class.
Professor walker is a great teacher. Tests are reasonable but be prepared to study. Took it as a hybrid class so all lectures were online so you have to put in time outside of class.
I did not take Professor Walker for BSC2010, but after taking BSC2011 with him I sure wish I did! He gives study guides that exactly follow his lectures. He is quick to respond with the right answer to your question. He gives good feedback on quizzes too. The course was rushed but I got a lot out if it and I appreciate his help to my success.
I don't like biology, never have it's just tough for me to understand so it is a little harder for me. I had to study a lot but I am pulling of an A. Professor Walker has videos online which is great bc you can watch them as much as you want. They help a lot as do the study guides. The homework isn't bad at all and it helps. Great professor.
I took Professor Walker's hybrid BSC 2011 class and it was a lot of work. It's viable, but definitely requires self-discipline, as most (90%) of his lectures are accessible from his YouTube videos. Tests are pretty difficult.
Professor Walker was an easy professor if you really tried. Not really my favorite person if I'm being honest, he kind of annoyed me, but he's an easy professor for sure. Skipping lecture days doesn't really effect your grade at all.
Great teacher and very helpful. Studying is required. Great teacher and will take him for biology 2
He doesn't lecture very well and his tests are very tough. His study guides are entirely too long and most of the questions on the study guide aren't even on the test. However, he is very helpful with whatever you need and his labs are a ton of fun.
There's a lot of information you will definitely have to study. The way the lowest lab and test is dropped really helps your grade. Show up to class and take notes to make sure you understand the information.
His teaching methods make it easier and more interesting to learn. He made the work understandable by turning it into stories and hand dances.
Professor Walker is a great professor, I would definitely take him again. My only complaint is that he should update the study guides to be more current with the book. He's pretty clear on grading and is very forgiving. Gives extra credit opportunities. If you do the study guides and the weekly quizzes you will definitely get a good grade.
Professor Walker is a fantastic professor. You can tell he is quite enthusiastic about what he teaches and always makes lectures fun. He is willing to help you whenever you need it, you just have to ask. Definitely recommend.
Its a tough class but he's there to help and clear up answers if you need help . You just have to work extremely hard for the grade you want.
His instruction is good. The tests are obscure and confusing. He is for open-book, open-student, or "open-internet" when doing Blackboard quizzes, which is awesome. Plus, it helps with results by explaining why you got something wrong. I wish the book would simplify the material somehow. It was a struggle and I tried. I was never a science person.
Right on professor, lectures are clear and productive. He will repeat himself enough for you to remember the material. He also has a lot of material online to help you pass exams such as: study guides, videos, lectures, and power points. There is no reason for you not to pass, he gives you everything you need.
I would retake him...
Great professor. Very helpful answer any questions. Quizzes are a bit confusing so read them carefully.
Professor Walker is an enthusiastic teacher and gives great lectures. He also has a useful website with many resources(including lecture videos). The material can be difficult so I recommend attending lectures and using the extra materials.
Great teacher. If you study and pay attention you can do well in the class. Although certain topics may seem too much if you go back and review you can understand.
I was afraid of biology, but Dr. Walker made it fun and and helped me to be eager to learn. The tests were difficult, but we had ample amount of extra credit work that we could do!
He's a good teacher. He explains everything you need to know and he always gives u time to ask questions. All of his lectures n notes are on bb. So if u miss a class u can still have all the info you need. He drops your lowest test score so if you fail a test u still have a chance to do good.
Hardest class I've taken next to Economics. Professor gives extra long study guides with a lot of questions that won't even show up on the test. He's helpful sometimes but he kind of brushes over topics in a general way.
Professor Walker is one of the best professors I've ever had. He gives you all the resources you need to succeed in his class. There are lectures online and PowerPoint slides, he makes study guides for exams, and he makes everything very clear. Will take again if I could!
Professor Walker is a good professor he makes his class easy, interesting, and fun. All of the lectures are online which is really helpful because you can go back as well as ahead.
Quizzes online but only 10 questions. Great lecture slides which are online also. I had a fun semester with Dr. Walker! Taking for bio 1&2
The tests are the hardest part. He provides plenty of study guides for each chapter which really help if you take the time to do them.
This was a great class for everybody, even if you don't like science. He makes the class fun and he has many resources available to help you.
He is great and cute ;)
Professor walker is a great teacher, he goes over everything in depth that will be on the test. He is hilarious and makes class actually fun, his labs are awesome too. Be ready for online quizzes though. Would definitely take again, don't miss out.
Professor walker is great he pushes you to be your best.
Professor walker gives you every opportunity to pass and makes the material as easy as possible. I thought his exams were kind of hard because you can't just memorize the material he makes you prove that you understand the concept. So remembering definitions won't help you
I absolutely love Dr. Walker's style of teaching. His in-class labs are fun and I found there was a definite sense of community in his class. That being said, sometimes I found it difficult to be engaged during lectures and I would've liked practice questions beyond quizzes for tests. He gives feedback and always answers questions.
Quizzes were pretty hard & tricky. Lectures could be long depending on the topic. Really have to study & even then you still might not get the grade you want on a test.
He's an awesome professor that i cant wait to take again in the fall.. He's really chilled and laid back and gives analogies for everything so ypu will remember it on the test.. He answers all questions so don't be afraid to ask
It's really great to have a professor who gets so into what he's teaching! He's very passionate about it and it shows during his lectures. He's always ready to answer questions and he'll go the extra step to help his students understand.
Dr. Walker is the best professor. He provides everything you need to pass the class from study guides to easy labs. Study for the test and do the labs and you have to get a good grade. You have to literally do nothing to fail this class
I loved Professor Walker. He really made me understand biology more that I did before. Pay attention, do the study guides and you'll pass. His class was AMAZING! He uses is own textbook which is easy to use. Labs and test are important part of your grade.
Awesome teacher! Biology isn't my favorite subject he will keep you involved with Labs and work. There will be a quiz every Sunday. LONG study guides for each test which help but they are so broad that sometimes the guide may not help with the test you have to KNOW the material. He also provides lecture videos which are great to review.
In the beginning it was unclear to me how to study for this class. it took almost half the semester to figure out that you must do the study guides, come to class and take good notes and watch the lecture videos posted online. Do those three things consistently and get a good grade. I wish that it was clear to me in the beginning.
I had great time in his class. All his lectures is on youtube and it base on the test. The labs are really fun, plus professor Walker loves to put a smile on your face and makes you laugh. But there is one thing that I'm not use too. The professor does not give you a study guide for the final, instead you have look over the 12 study guide. Beware
Dr. Walker is a genuine professor. He goes a bit off topic whenever a student asks a question, but if you go to him for help, he's there for you. His tests are about 40 questions long. MC and short answers. He has study guides. Lectures are online. There's a lab book. Don't take the 8 week class; too much info and not enough time. You won't learn.
Lots of work. I took 5 classes total and when I wrote out what was due each week for all my classes the amount of work due for this one class equaled the amount of work due for all four other classes combined. I did learn a lot though. Discussions are more like papers and be sure to source EVERYTHING! Discussion? Source it. Response? Source it.
I never understood science until I took Professor Walker. He makes his lectures and labs very interesting and easy to understand if you pay attention, and makes hard concepts easy to understand. If you don't understand something he really helps and makes sure that no one is confused. Do the study guides and you will pass the tests!
I don't know how he works on campus classes but he is not that good in online classes. he gives a lot of work (discussions, lab work, etc.) but beware. the discussions are due by Sunday of their respective weeks but if you turn it in after Wednesday you surely will get an F. he doesn't bother to tell you what you did wrong he just gives the grade
He is great! The lab got tricky at times but read through the syllabus well and do the assigned work and you will likely get a good grade!
I had taken Professor walker about a year before this class, I I really enjoyed his Biology 1 class, so I decided to take him for Biology 2. He's changed his teaching methods now to be mostly online though, which, personally, I don't like. I find it easier learn from a professor face-to-face rather than online lectures. I would still recommend him.
This professor grades slowly, two weeks after due date. There's more work in this 1 credit hour lab than my other 3 classes combined. Expect discrepancies with lab manual & the syllabus. Complete the module reports by name, not lab #. Doesn't respond quickly. Expect 10-16 hrs/wk for 8 wk course. 18 labs, 3 are formal reports. Don't recommend prof.
This professor is unorganized and doesn't answer questions very fast. He does provide feedback on assignments. Although I would not take him again. There is too much work for this to be a 1 credit hr class.
An overload of work for a lab only class. Instructions are sometimes not clear. Follow the syllabus and make sure to ask questions as soon as you have them, he will respond. BB did not always add up to the syllabus but this professor goes by the syllabus. Professor Walker grades late but does give feedback on labs.
This class is extremely easy to pass, I only came on Thursdays for labs because it was required. Otherwise he has his lectures online. Just watch those and come for the tests and it's an easy passing grade.
I really regret not doing this early enough but Prof. Walker is one of the best professors I've ever had if not the best. He cares about his students. He posts lecture videos online and lectures in class. He caters to all students' learning types. Attendance is not mandatory for lecture days but labs are mandatory and missed labs can't be made up.
not clear
Beware, there are TWO Jason Walkers at FSCJ. I wouldn't recommend this biology class online or in anytime period past 16 weeks. The test are extremely complex and hard to understand. If you plan on taking this class then study up, because your gonna need it. He doesn't lecture in class but you have to sit and watch very boring lectures. HAVE FUN!
His lectures are interesting but his tests are near impossible... Even with hours of studying.
I've taken many online classes and this class was the most organized of all. He provides interesting lectures online, and study guides that synchronize with the lectures. I emailed him asking for clarification and he was always helpful and quick to respond. There are only two tests, so you have be well-prepared. They are not hard if you study hard.
I enjoyed doing his labs, especially culturing my own bacteria from home. The tests were proctored at an FSCJ lab and were very hard. He wasn't very specific with study guides at all. He grades the labs very easily and the quizzes were simple. Just study for the tests and you'll do fine.
I wouldn't take this class again. The professor wasn't very helpful and this class consists of a lot of work
Best professor I've had hands down. He gives you everything you need to succeed, but you have to work for it. Don't expect this is an easy class just because it is biology. I am practicing for the mcat and the depth at which Dr. Walker describes biological topics left me mastering that part of the practice exams. Take this guy if you are serious.
Maybe he is a better in class professor than online, that is not the place for him. His lectures are no help, he did not give good study guides for test prep. The guides he did use were all over the place, hard to pinpoint what points needed to be studied. His lab assignments were a joke. Would not take him for an online professor.
For an online class, I learned a ton from this class. His lectures are to the point and at times hilarious. Lectures synchronize with his study guide, which allows you to keep on point as you watch the lecture. Labs are fun and support the lectures well. Exams are challenging, but if you know the study guides you will do fine.
Awesome professor.
Itinerary of the best online classes I've taken. Professor Walker provides an integrative system if video lectures, study guides and hands-on labs that reinforce the material. His website is top-notch and he's always quick to respond to emails with questions about content. 2 exams, but if you prepare they are challenging but they are no surprises.
I liked professor walker and his class, however it was really difficult for me to understand the information especially because all the lectures were online. Before all the tests he would ask if there is any questions and would answer them but I didn't even know what to ask. Would not help with the labs told us to read the book for more information
He is very knowledgeable about biology and is good at explaining it. If you need to miss a lecture day, he has lecture videos on the class website, which is super convenient. Grades are only through quizzes, labs, and tests. He accepts late work, which is awesome. Very nice.
Professor walker has an awesome system for online learning. between the lecture videos, study guides and labs. They all go together. Exams are not that hard if you study well and pay close attention to the information in the lectures. Taken many online classes and this is the most put together one I've taken. and I learned a lot about biology!!!
my biggest gripe is that the labs in this class are essentially busy work that are not difficult, but take forever to do. The study guides are far too vague and overwhelmingly long to be helpful (and you have to find all the answers yourself)between these assignments and the weekly quizzes, I had little time to try and actually learn the material.
I thought I was doing terrible in the class the entire semester, but in the end extra credit and some participation grades bump you up at the last minute :)
Professor Walker is a really funny guy, but sometimes I feel like that would get in the way of his teaching. His lectures are really good and everything is on his website, the exams are killer. Make sure you get good grades on the quizzes and homeworks if you don't think you're gonna to good on the exams, they're intense.
Great class. Professor Walker is well organized and to the point. Make sure you know that study guide though. It's a lot to know, but there aren't any curve balls. I never really like biology before this class. His teaching style is enthusiastic and contagious.
Very good class. Professor is very down to earth and teaches at your level, so that you understand the concepts. No hidden agenda's, all of his work is straight forward and to the point. Study the guides that he provides, do the labs and you should walk away with an "A".
Overall it was a long class. Labs took awhile to do and sometimes it just felt like busy work. The test you need to study heavily, the study guide helped to a extent. That being said the test was extremely hard and didn't match up too the test. I would not recommend taking online. Maybe in seat would've been better for me.
Professor Walker is awesome. I suck at science and his labs were super helpful and helped me understand way more than I thought I could. He responds super fast and gives good feedback and help if you need it. I would definitely recommend him!
Dr. Walker is the best professor I've had yet. His style of teaching made the course interesting, clear and very informative. He cares about his students and wants to see them pass, always willing to help with anything, anytime you need it.
Professor Walker is awesome! He is the type of professor that really goes that extra mile to make sure his students have the resources they need to learn the material. You can tell that he really cares about his students performance and that he enjoys teaching. I didn't get an A, but I learned more from this one class than any class I've had yet.
He was an amazing teacher. He was awesome very intense in a good way! He goes in depth and makes the labs very fun! Like every class you need to pay attention but he makes the class so much fun like its not even work. I took a hybrid class. Online and at Kent campus! I recommend 100% I would take him again!
Dr. Walker's enthusiasm for biology is contagious. He pours his heart and soul into his classes. I've taken him for Bio 1 and 2, and have since switched my major to Biology for when I transfer to UF. The labs, lectures and study guides are all synchronous. And his lecture videos (especially the new ones) are professional quality education. 10/10
Had Walker for Bio 1&2 online; he has a class website full of info and his class is extremely organized. He created his own lab manual, which reiterates his lectures. He has a study guide for each chapter which if u know and understand, u can easily get an A on exams. His video lectures are pretty much all u need; FREE online text book.
Pass the entire class did not do well on the Exams FAILED the semester! He would say something one class and forget he gave us permission to do so next class! In class, he only answers QUESTION! You are expected to be taught from HIS website. Do NOT take if you are a visual/ hands on learner. Going to class was a waste of time! DO NOT TAKE HIM...
Great teacher! I took his hybrid class so lectures were videos he recorded. He is writing his own curriculum & it's unfinished so there are some mistakes sometimes but he is super helpful if you need clarification. He grades well (not necessarily an easy A) and fairly. You need to have the lab book and show up to wet labs.
I took the 7 week hybrid. IT was intense but totally doable. Hes a super nice guy and goes the extra mile to help his students. I made a B but feel like I learned more from this class than any Ive taken at FSCJ or UNF. I cant wait to eke hi him for bio 2.
In his online class, everything is spelled out for you at the beginning of the course and as long as you keep on track week by week you will do fine. If anything comes up he is great at emailing back and even when you get things wrong his feedback is clear and often hilarious.
This class is easy if you turn everything in ON TIME. I finished the work for the week usually withing one day and exams need about a day of prep and 2 days of study. The professor is not easily available and when emailed he doesn't give very good responses. Just follow the instructions given and you are good. P.S. Crash course - YouTube.
Great class. Well organized. Prof is always willing to help. But you've got to be on top of the material to get an A. Labs are easy and help to understand the lecture material. Exams are challenging but if you know the info, they aren't too bad. I scored B's on the exams and got and A.
Took him in the fall semester, to summon all up in a week it's just working on a Lab and doing the weekly quiz for the chapter. All the info is his powerpoints, but it's a lot to take in. Especially on the mid term and final exam based on the half point of the lessons (1-6); (7-13). But it's an easy class, helps you out if you dont understand.
Overall, he was a great a professor and the class was easy to past as long as you study for the exams. There are two exams, which he does provide study guides for but its a lot of material to cover. The study guides are great because they are usually the questions on the exam and he use questions from the labs too.
I took Professor Walker for Biology 1 this past semester and let me tell you, even though the class isnt an easy A, he really cares about his students success and is always available to help them out. I definitely want to take him for Biology 2 next semester.
I took Jason's BOT1010 class online. It was my first college course after not having finished my degree roughly 20 years ago. I was super nervous to go back to college, especially taking Botany with a lab being the first, but it was great! Jason has a very detailed syllabus, course is clearly laid out in Canvas. He's quick to respond to email too.
Highly recommend not taking his bio 1 class online. You have to buy the book because its the only way to do the labs. Never responds to emails. He makes you buy lab materials. 2 exams and they are really hard. Regret taking this class
I decided to take biology in person so i could learn more but when you did go to class he didn't teach he just let you use the whole class to do busy work. overall hes a cool professor and nice but lacks when it comes to teaching and responding to emails. his tests are also extremely difficult.
Walker is an awesome teacher. I had him a traditional face to face class that got switched to online becasue of the corona virus. In class he is great, but once we moved to online i was really impressed with his online lectures. In class is better, but I learned alot even online.
I don't recommend this professor to ANYONE. If you don't pass his tests, you won't pass the class, even if you get 100% in the labs and quizzes. There's no extra credit. He doesn't make any comments when you have a wrong answer. Respond to your emails with just 3 words: "Welcome to college" (that's assuming that he responds) DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!
Honesty one of the best professors I've ever had. I'm taking his class right now during the summer. He is very understanding with everything going on and truly wants to help you. I think if you have the chance to take him you should.
Absolutely awful! I DO NOT recommend! Especially for someone NOT familiar w/sciences. He's condescending/not helpful. You'll have to teach yourself - leaving you to wonder what online info is right, or not. HE DOES NOT TEACH. I recommend YouTube, if not for YouTube, I never would've passed. No matter how you do on the wrk - the tests will ruin you.
Super cool professor, real lax. There is a "lab" every week, but it's just a packet of paper you fill out, convert to a PDF, and submit. Chegg tutors will help you fill them out. Quiz answers can be found online and exams are a little rough, but as long as you do all of your labs, you'll pass.
He gives were fun lectures, but this is not an easy class. Definitely study and make note card, because his exams are hard. Only gave 2 exam, which were open note.
I'm guessing that he is much better in a face-to-face setting, but the online class was almost impossible. There was no textbook other than the one he wrote himself, and it is wildly unhelpful. Lots of labs, half of which I still do not understand how they pertained to the material.
I took this class during COVID as "live online". Dr. Walker really brought as much enthusiasm as he could given the limitations. His class is really organized and he was super helpful answering any questions we had and reviewing the important information during our meetings. I worked and studied pretty hand and learned a lot. Great prof.
What a great class. I can't believe how much I learned for an online class. His lecture videos and labs go together. Study guides that follow the lectures. Just study those really hard for the exams and you'll do fine. If you get stuck on something, just email him. He usually gets back within a few hours and is super helpful.
All around fantastic professor. Read his lectures/watch the videos ahead of class. videos are short, concise, and engaging. The book is online but the lab manual is not. Scheduled class time is used to answer any and every question you might have. There is a lab and quiz for each chapter but only 2 tests. he does give you study guides for the test
Dr. Walker is the best teacher I have had in college. I'm not a science major, but I learned so much in this class. My favorite part was learning how DNA actually works at a molecular level and how that relates to genetics and inheritance. He is quick to respond to emails and his tests aren't too hard if you study.
Mr. Walker is a great teacher! I took his live-online class and had a great time! His lectures were great and the grading was very transparent. You can always reach him outside of class and he will help to explain it very well.
Mr. Walker is a very great teacher! You should have a good grade in his class if you do the work and study for the exam. He also gives you study guides to help you learn the material more specifically. He responds to emails pretty fast too. I learned a lot and would definitely take his class again. Totally recommend taking him for biology!
Awesome class. I took him for an online class. It is super organized. Basically one lecture one lab and one quiz a week. He gives study guides which really help for the test. He was always quick to respond to my questions and believe me I had a lot. 10/10
Doesn't teach half of what he tests on. I took it online and only got an A because of being able to google during quizzes and exams. He uses old lectures that are half-wasted on outdated jokes about Justin Bieber and Friends. Emailed him once about a question I missed and never got a response. His lectures are informative but useless for the tests.
I recommend taking this with some sort of live instruction, it's more fun and more details/explanation than in his video lectures. I took both a live online semester and fully online and did pretty well. He provides his own textbook and labs which are easy As. Weekly module quizzes and two exams. Great professor and class! Highly recommend!
Super fun class. I wish more of my professors put this much effort into teaching their classes.
Hard class. but I learned more than i expected. especially out of an online class.
Great instructor, very passionate, wants to help his students be successful. Not easy by no means and biology did not come easy to me. However, Dr. Walker did everything humanly possible to make sure that I got the information. Drirlling the lecture videos and study guides are the key to acing the exams which end up being about half of your grade.
Dr. Walker is amazing. I am in the process of getting special accommodations (private testing due to anxiety). He set me up in the testing center with a private room even though my special accomodation petition has not been finalized. I took his class where each week had a lecture and a lab.
Overall his class was great, the labs were easy and so were the quizzes. The only problem I had was the exams, they are proctored online so there the added anxiety of someone watching you along with the study guides do not match the exams. If you take this class I suggest making sure you watch the videos and study as much as possible.
Dr Walker is super cool, funny, and tries his best to make the class engaging. He obviously enjoys the material and really knows his stuff. You have to buy the lab manual, which he wrote, but it's pretty straight forward stuff. The class was written to be online or hybrid so you don't have to show up (he's lenient) but you really should.
If you have the time to devote your life to his class or if youre actually interested in learning Biology take his course, but if youre trying to take a science class just for your pre-requisite classes Avoid him at all costs, he makes Biology harder than what it has to be, the tests are basically half your grade, and his study guide dont help.
I took Dr. Walker for Bio 1 during covid as a live online course and in person for Bio 2. Great professor willing to help, but you have to show initiative. He expects you to do the work and come to him with questions. The exams determine your grade at the end of the day, but there are no surprises.
All around good professor. He is passionate about what he teaches and genuinely wants to help. His lecture material is interesting and he goes off on some "out-there" tangents, which are quite entertaining to watch. The labs are fun most of the time and aren't really busy work. Exams aren't too bad, but I studied pretty hard.
Professor Walker's class was very difficult. All of his tests are taken with ProctorU which changes settings on your computer and requires camera + mic. He does not allow extra credit or retakes. He closed the class early with no warning. Requires you to buy an overpriced book that he wrote that contains 50% of your classwork.
This class has a lot of information and it is only separated into two tests. It is way to much information to retain. There should maybe be 4 different tests to break up all the information. He is a very nice person.
I really loved this class. Well organized. Each week has a lecture, a lab, and a quiz. The labs aren't just busy work, and the quizzes are easy especially if you use the internet :) And lol, what is this dude below me talking about. What professor in college allows you to retake an exam.
Man, what a class! That was by far the class I have learned the most from. His lecture videos are entertaining as much as they are educational and the labs were very hands on. It made it feel like I was in a classroom, even though the class was completely online. I am excited to take Bio 2 in person next semester.
I really enjoyed this class. He is really laid back and goofy, but it makes him much more approachable. The labs and quizzes are pretty straightforward and he allows you to work with other students to complete them. The exams weren't too bad, just a lot of studying the few days before. I really learned a lot from this class and had fun doing it.
lovely professor, took him for both biology 1 and 2. no dissections, virtually all labs done in classes, and he uses his own lab manual instead of any textbook (which is much cheaper). show up to classes for the labs and fill out his chapter study guides to prepare for exams and it'll be easy.
My classmates always said that they look forward to his class. He would always ask if there were any questions when he'd give lectures, and would pause his lecture to make sure you understood what he was talking about before moving on with the class's current topic. 2 exams all semester. He also has Discords for all his classes.
The curriculum for this class are YouTube videos he has made. The study guides are not helpful for the quizzes/exams. The material is greatly lacking in detail and a lot of information is implied rather that taught. I reached out asking for some extra help on something and he replied he felt his lecture explained it well and to google it.
Not good at explaining. Puts questions on tests that were not covered.
As long as you watch the the lectures and understand the study guides you will easily get a good grade on the exams. Quizzes are open book and the labs really help learning the lecture material. His lectures are interesting and funny. I emailed him several times a week asking for clarification and he usually got back within an hour or so.
Professor Walker was incredible, he makes class so much fun and he's clearly passionate about what he teaches. Yes you will need to purchase the book (it is your work book). He has you use his website to answer study guides to prepare you for your tests DO THEM. If you put in the work there's no excuse not to pass. He's super chill/understanding.
His exams aren't too bad but they're closed book and he expects we study the study guide on his site. Which is 40 questions per chapter. I wish he would've condensed them into something realistic. I got a c because i failed both exams. The rest of the work is relatively easy to do. I personally wouldn't take him again but he isn't a "bad" professor
Professor Walker's class could be one of the best/worst experiences depending on you. Study the study guides, pay attention to lectures, and follow the labs and you'll do fine. The quizzes are open-book, but not the exams (study guides help here). Email him if anything, as he is quick to respond. Pay attention and ask questions when needed.
his exams has questions that were not talked about. nice guy but his teaching is complicated. if u wanna dedicate ur life to science then this class is for you. quizzes and labs were easy
he is terrible . don't get him for the love of god. don't take biology unless ur going for a science degree or a bachelors.
Dr. Walker is enthusiastic about biology. Has his own website which includes videos, ppt, and study guides for each lecture. Was able to ace the tests w/ the study guides. Many opportunities for extra credit. For lectures he draws on a whiteboard. Make sure drawing skills are up to par. I suck at drawing and found myself quite frustrated at times.
If you take his course, please come with a ready to go mindset. It will be either the hardest or easiest semester depending on how much you participate and ask questions. He cares about his students and has a passion for what he does. Don't be afraid to ask questions and ask a LOT of them to pass.
He provides the material online through videos, scripts, and slides. Two major exams. Multiple extra credit opportunities. Exams are hard if you don't apply yourself but he provides study guides so you have plenty of options. Labs are tricky but he allows partners. quizzes after every lecture and you can only take it once but they are open book.
His curriculum is random. You will be doing a lot of random Google goose chases for quizzes.
Amazing professor. I finished his C-session course during the summer with an A. He will respond to every email in a great timely manner, He gives so much extra credit that wasn't hard to do. Professor walker gave us 2 exams which follow the study guides and the videos. I passed with an A by studying his videos. Id take his class again if I could!!!
This class is not an easy online class. would rather take in person
This class should not be taken online. Take it in person if possible. The online content is alright, but it was really hard to fully understand every topic. Professor Walker is super understanding and helpful, and I'm sure he'd be much better in person, but stay away from the online version of this class.
Cool guy. Lectures & studyguide didn't prepare me for the exams even with lots of studying. There are 2 exams and your grades rely on that. The exams are M/C & if you miss it for whatever reason (family health emergency) & he allows you to retake it, its all short answer. Tough grader & takes off points for small things. Labs & quizzes are easy.
Dropped this class because the expectations seemed unreasonable. Was not told I needed to buy a $50 physical lab book (no digital version) until the day class started. No textbook and the two tests are based primarily on his lectures. There was a syllabus quiz but the syllabus was not provided. The workload seemed reasonable for a B12 session.
This is a class where you HAVE to get 100% on the exams in order to get an A. There is A LOT of content that you are expected to memorize. The homework, quizzes, and labs are extremely easy but don't do much to strengthen your grade as the exams are 200 points and 65-66 questions each. A lot of dedicated time to this class is needed.
Professor Walker is a great teacher. He makes tough topics easy to understand, cares about his students, and keeps class interesting.
Easiest A ever in history of online classes. Just trust.
Incredibly difficult to fail this class. Exams make up 400 points of class, (open) quizzes/labs make up the rest and are not hard. Start exam prep early & actually do the study guides they really do help, I didn't catch on until the final, which is not cumulative. Many extra credit opportunities, fun/interactive class, and Great professor!
Great Professor! Took him for both Biology 1 and 2, ended with an a A and B. Did not take much effort for the good grades. The labs are set up great. You will do great on quizzes if you do the lab and read the chapter. The only thing is "hard" is the 2 tests, but with study you will do good.
I've taken Professor Walker for three classes: BSC2010C, BOT1010C, and BSC1005, all online. I like him. The proctored exams in BSC2010/11 and BOT1010C are a heavy part of your grade, and the study guides don't help much; just take good notes. He grades very easily, corrects mistakes, and responds to emails promptly. A $50 lab book is needed.
