Will make you work!
This class if fun and interesting. He is easily put off topic, but still very knowledgeable.
Interesting class, good teacher. If you have him for a hybrid course, make sure and do the online discussions. Easy grader on papers.
Make sure only talking about humanities, otherwise you'll feel like Hamlet, doing soliloquy all the time.
Interesting human professor of humanities, you'll learn what is written and said, you'll also learn what is not written and said, certainly about the humanities, and that's very interesting. Write your papers well, because he reads them.
I'm currently taking Humanities 1 with him my goodness, he is a brilliant teacher (not to mention he's got a gorgeous smile and beautiful eyes...). The class is very interesting and the hours usually fly by. teehee i loved his attitude :). I would definitely recommend him
have to say that Pro. Whitmarsh was very fair IF you did the reading and admitted it and participated in class. Otherwise he would give a pop quiz. Sounds ok right, well not if you get brain blocked when asked questions that you know the answers to. Also... Cell phones are NOT allowed not his fault you didn't turn it off.
Great Professor! Wonderful class! I absolutely love this class. I had no interest in Humanities before I took it. I had both HUM 2210 and HUM 2230 with him and recieved an "A" in both. His tests are intensive and he required two papers throughout the semester, but he makes the class so interesting. Just study and take notes!
I was not looking forward to this class, but it turns out that it has been my FAVORITE class I've taken in my college career. He is truly passionate about what he does and he speaks from experience. Professor Whitmarsh makes the subject quite interesting. You are graded on 2 research papers, attendance, and midterm/final. And he's hot.
2 Test, 2 Papers, that's it. Really entertaining! Speaks from experience, he's actually been to the places he's taching about!
Good teacher. Uses power point and follows it! Has every classes planed out and doesn't jump around. Is will to answer any questions and starts conversations. There are 2 tests and 2 papers. You have to study and work hard but it's easy to get an A.
I have taken humanities 2 before with a horrible prof and I hated humanities. The first day of class I thought Whitmarsh was really arrogant and rude. As the semester has gone on I've found myself really looking forward to class, he's very funny! Test are exactly what his power points are. Just study and you'll do fine.
Super awesome teacher! Hilarious! I never studied and pulled an A. I super recommend this guy!
Very knowledgeable. But grades hard on class participation. Two test and two papers graded fairly on that. Make sure your there for roll call! And don't be afraid to talk out loud in class. I am a respectful quite learner, and this hurt my grade. Grades rather subjective so be prepared to be judged on you character traits. YOU MUST NOT BE SHY!
Wonderful professor! As I finish up my undergrad at UNF, I'm still thinking what an awesome professor this guy was my first semester of college at SJR. He is extremely organized and honestly a great teacher. I learned a lot of information that has helped me in other classes to this day.
The class is very hard
Great professor! His lectures are super interesting and fun. He's extremely knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. Tests are easy if you keep good notes and study them. I really enjoyed this class.
He lectures from a powerpoint. The class is easy if you pay attention. If you study your notes you'll do fine on the tests. He is very laid back and always has funny comments. He grades fairly. I got an A in the class. Overall i enjoyed the class and plan on taking him again for humanities 2
I was told Humanities would be difficult, but I found it easy. overall, Whitmarsh is a good teacher, but he can easily get distracted.
This class was great. Whitmarsh is really interesting and I never felt bored. It IS important to read the textbook and all assigned readings because it will show up on the exams. I thought all assignments were fairly easy and the instructions were clear. If you're a strong writer then you will excel in this class.
Whitmarsh is a cool guy. He loves art and culture and likes what he does enough. He is easily swayed by flowery language and cliches which makes writing assignments a breeze. This is a very enjoyable class.
The worst. His class was very interesting. He's a great lecturer but too difficult to please with assignments. A person's grade depends on two essays and two exams with an essay portion. Receiving a good grade from him is very difficult and he requires too much detail to remember.
Overall, I was very satisfied with this professor. He was very helpful and knew what he was doing. Just remember to take his class seriously. Even though there are only 2 papers and 2 tests, he still has huge expectations for them, so make them count!
Good professor but tests are really hard
I really enjoyed this class. He's a tough grader but will help explain anything you need him to. His lectures are amusing and the paper isn't that difficult. Take notes and participate in discussions and the class will be a breeze.
I had the pleasure of having Jason Whitmarsh for both humanities 1 and 2 and both classes followed the same format, two out of class essays and two in class tests. His lectures are great and you get to have very colorful conversations making it fun and hard to forget. He will never test you on something he hasnt gone over or said might be tested.
I have taken this class in the summer and I must say, he's a really tuff grader. test's aren't too hard but they're not easy. he DOES NOT give extra credit. I have not received my grade yet, but by the looks of the grade on my research paper, I probably failed. again, he is a really tuff grader.
I took his class for summer 2015. He is a very tough grader. 1 missed point on the test because I spelled "primevira" wrong... His lectures are fun, however, you must do the online homework for each section everyday. it was hard to spend an extra 2 hours a night doing online stuff. I thought I was able to pull a high B, but I received a C. :
He made me love Humanities. He has such a good sense of humor, just don't take anything personally. I dreaded taking this but he made me love everything about Humanities even the music portion. The tests are very difficult though and I studied a lot for them. He makes this subject so enjoyable but make sure to take good notes from his lectures.
I love Whitmarsh and his lectures. I didn't know anything about humanities and did not know what to expect going into the class but Prof. Whitmarsh made it very interesting, thought provoking and intriguing. Very discussion based class and I loved that
Only holds a masters, but he should hold a doctorate. Very very intelligent. I am an older student who is 46. Not only is he very understanding as well as patient, he is an amazing professor. I really enjoyed his classes. I took two back to back and loved them both! Strongly recommend him.
He is a fantastic teacher, but not an easy A class. You must do the readings and study, if you do both you will be fine. Also be prepared to spend time on your papers. If you don't put in the effort your grade will be low. Absolutely loved this class, he is a bit of a smart ass but it makes his class fun. I would take him again
Prof Whitmarsh is the best lecturer I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. He is really funny and is very knowledgeable about humanities. However, his class is not easy. 2 tests, 2 papers, and online HW, and 10 quizzes. That is all that makes up your grade, so make it count!
This professor is funny, smart and compassionate. He does expect participation and will not spoon feed you. He gives great feedback on papers and quizes. I would take another class taught by him anyday!!!
He was a HARSH, RUDE, MEAN grader!Sorry I don't have PHD!Only gave a few minutes for his writing quiz, you have two writing papers. So if you fail one you will not pass the class he'll tell you that. I loved his lectures, he really get into them and he is very smart and know almost everything. He made humanities interesting.
Great professor! Listen to his lectures, do the online assignments (I got them out of the way quickly), read for the quizzes and take notes and you will have no problem in this class. He has a dry sense of humor but he makes it fun. I have a whole new appreciation for art now. Two papers, one is a research paper, mid-term and final.
Whitmarsh is a difficult professor he has few assignments so there isn't room for error. However, he is very clear in what he requires and what is expected of the student. His lectures are hilarious and a highlight of many students day. He has a particularly dry and sarcastic humor that fits in with some of the darker subjects discussed.
Rude and tough grader. Missing even the littlest things on your paper will drop letter grade. You dont do well on one paper you fail. Doesn't work well with you. Tests are hard, do not take if you value your GPA. Was a funny guy during lectures but that's the only nice thing about him.
He is super funny, and gives great lectures. He really knows what he is talking about, and class is not boring. He is a tough grader. There are two papers that must be done in Chicago format. If the citations are wrong, then you pretty much fail that paper. There are also two exams which aren't very difficult if you pay attention during class.
He's a great teacher & I would recommend him! Many say that he's a tough grader, but he grades you on the work/effort you put into his class. This is a college class, you will not pass if you put some/little effort in his class. If you put in real effort, study & do all the assignments you will pass. His lectures are great & he's funny as well.
Dude is hilarious, if you don't mind a few sexist jokes then you will do great, he is very open with class participation and encourages discussion.
Play by his syllabus & don't think you're going to be "pushed through" his class just for your effort. You have to show up to class on time, turn off your cell phone, reading the readings, make your voice heard during discussions, turn your papers in on time to pass. Tests are easy but he'll nail your grade hard if you don't follow paper outline.
His lectures are absolutely incredible and the man is just hilarious. However, make sure to study for quizzes and tests, and turn in papers on time. As long as you are willing to put in the effort this class is well worth taking.
Great professor who knows the topics and gives an enlightened insight of different cultures and beliefs. His lectures will discuss everything you need to know for the midterm and final. As for the papers; you are in college taking college level classes. He expects college level work. Do all the assignments and pay attention, you'll have fun.
Professor Whitmarsh is great! He has a sense of humor and makes class fun. The midterm and final are based on notes taken in class, I highly recommend taking this class.
Everyone has summed up what the work is like pretty well. As a teacher, he's hilarious and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
Professor Whitmarsh is great! I have him this semester for a hybrid class. For his class you simply have to read, take notes, learn art, complete my artslab (maybe), discussion post and listen to lectures. He is hilarious and his lectures are never boring, very interactive with the class!100/10 recommend! Great Professor
Great professor! Make sure that you attend every class as there is a quiz each week over the reading. As long as you read what he assigns which isn't that much, you'll pass the quizzes. His lectures are great and his class is never boring. Make sure you are taking notes from his lectures!
The class consists of you coming in and taking notes for an hour. It is important that you contribute to the discussions held in class, or at least ask questions. You will be graded on participation, your mythology paper, mythology presentation, and midterm and final exam. Make sure you do the assigned readings and learn your key terms.
I loved taking his class. His dark sense of humor makes the class very enjoyable and makes the class fun. However, there is a research paper due towards the end of the semester but as long as your sources are cited properly you'll do fine.
I had an A all semester and then he took so long to grade the final project and I ended up with a B and didn't even know it until last minute when there was nothing I could do. Takes forever to grade and is not clear in instructions
Easy if you do the work
Online Midterm/Final questions are straight from the powerpoint, so you know exactly what to expect. One assigned reading/ essay quiz per week. A 5-6 page research paper on the life of a significant figure from the humanities due towards the end of the semester. He has some dark humor, but overall he is very clear about what he expects you to know.
As smart as professor Whitmarsh is, he is the toughest grader I have had. After working on a paper all semester, he grades it an F simply because it was not Chicago manual style and it was APA. He then refuses to give me any feedback on the paper, just says "Where did you learn how to cite?!". Would highly recommend AVOIDING this professor!
If you take good notes in his class, you will be fine for his tests. You can use your notes for the tests so its important to take good notes. He is funny in class and has a very unique sense of humor. The quizzes are easy if you do the readings and take the time to dissect and analyze them. I would take his class again
He doesnt know what he is giving to the students for assignments.
He used words that were not very polite to students. He made you feel as if you had no chance to catch up even. He has a discussion every Wednesday and he does not post it until 8 a.m. Wednesday morning and it is due the same night and there are 0 makeup opportunities. I had troubles with my text book mid way and he was rude about it. 0/10.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Grades are based on 4 things only. 25% textbook quizzes, 25% midterm, 25% research paper (AND IF YOU DONT MEET HIS STANDARDS FOR THE PAPER YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TAKE THE FINAL), and 25% final. If you email him do not expect a response till about 7 days later. With all this being said if u like to fail tak this class
Professor Whitmarsh is hilarious and gives great lectures. If you actually read the material that he assigns, take notes in class, and pay attention in his class you will pass his course. He wants you to put effort into your work, what a concept. He is challenging but I learned a lot in his class and I loved the course. Strongly recommend.
Whitmarsh is a great professor, I would definitely take him again if I had the chance. His humor is a bit darker but it just makes learning better. 10/10 would take again. Be prepared for a course paper :)
Not a lot of grades going in the grade-book, takes forever to respond back, doesnt let everyone take the final exam?? Like what. He is a very tough grader for the one essay we have to write if its not his way its wrong and will grade it a 50. Dont recommend this Professor.
very rude and TOUGH GRADER
Prof. Whitmarsh is indeed a tough grader, but he states his expectations in his syllabus and you initial the form acknowledging them. I think he wants his students to leave his class, not only knowing the subject, but also how to follow directions and time manage yourself. Lets be honest, we desperately need structure right now. I learned a lot.
This is a college teacher that expects college students to submit college level work. He clearly states what he expects and it is easy to pass if you pay attention. I went in person, and I would recommend not missing any class as his quizzes started and only lasted 10mins from the start of class. He will make you learn - but he's so funny too.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! I struggled in the first two discussion posts, but he gave me good enough feedback to where I would fix my mistakes in the last two. Again, he gives very detailed feedback, isn't suuuper harsh on grading, and is very reasonable. I took this class in the summer, so I wan't drowning in work. I definitely recommend taking him!
I took Professor Whitmarsh this past semester online and the class was extremely difficult. You have to know the book like the back of your hand and he does little to help. He removed the notes the week of the final exam, even when multiple students requested he post them. He is not great at responding either.
Want an easy A in Intro to Humanities? Professor Whitmarsh isn't the guy for you. If you have a strong writing background, you can effectively engage with his material. His examples during class are great and I love how you can analyze the literature from each era. However, he's not clear on the content of his finals. That is the only flaw he has.
If I could give this professor a 0 I would. He is an awful person and does not care about student success. He met with me and just belittled me and told me that my life doesn't matter. If you ever have a question, and email him, well don't expect a response for a few days, unless you are calling him out of course. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES
He treated me and all of my friends poorly and refuses to treat us like people. He violated the student code of conduct and expected me to go along with it. I am currently in an email battle with the dean about his poor actions that he took towards myself and my classmates I witnessed him verbally harass my classmate and she was in tears.
Horrible attitude. Don't provoke him or he'll drop you. Just a teacher notorious for having a bad attitude and treating his students poorly and he proved it. Take one of the other humanities teachers that provide an irregular class before taking him.
He doesn't teach. Nor does he care about students. He is condescending, and rude, and will make you cry regularly. Don't take his class. He will fail you just because he can.
Lectures w/ Prof. Whitmarsh were amazing! He was funny and really passionate about the topics. Apparently he used to do like essays for Intro but stopped doing that. We literally had 5 grades in the gradebook, four tests and one hw average grade of all the assignments. Tests are lecture based, you only need the book because the hw is in the book.
Not a very caring, nice guy, but a pretty good teacher. He has a great sense of humour and clearly cares a lot about what he teaches. The online assignments were a bit of a pain but nothing too extraordinary. He really needs to learn to have respect for other people, though. First class he stated that he didn't care about us or any personal issues.
Following the instructions can get you a 1 out of 10 in his exam essays. Do this twice and it's impossible to get an A. He wants to validate his career field, so he makes exams difficult. Ramble and include concepts from the chapter even when he doesn't specifically request it in essay instructions.
I enjoyed his sense of humor. Take notes during his lectures, participate in discussion. Do your reading before class, do your easy quizzes. He is available for tutoring Mondays and Wednesday take advantage of the resource. Did great on my essays because I went to tutoring. He is very knowledgeable.
My GPA was a 4.0. Algebra, Anatomy, Microbiology, Child Development, Emergency Medicine, all A's. Scored an 84 on the multiple-choice part of final #2. Essay question vaguely asked for one of 7 sins in the story. I listed 6 out of 7 sins. Whitmarsh adjusted my grade down to 71. Could not pull my grade back up to an A. Lost my honors designation.
Prof Witmarsh has a sassy and rude tone, he doesnt care about you. Study guides are useless and tests are designed to fail you. Feedback will be generic and pointless but make sure your essays are flawless and PHD level! You can never study or try hard enough for this man. He comes across as bothered to even be teaching.
Professor will be in a bad mood and not answer your questions or help students. He will drop you from his class (i.e. not acknowledging a syllabus) and then he will add you back into the class a month later, claim per the attendance policy, he can give you an academic warning. Then place you on attendance warning?????????????????????????????????
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! He just gives me a 0 on everything I do for no reason. Don't take any of his classes.
prof. whitmarsh is rude and inconsiderate. i took intro to humanities it was fairly easy but god forbid you have a family emergency or any personal issues and you will fail his class because he has no sympathy and does not care. things happen its life that we cannot control and we need less professors like whitmarsh. 0/10
Mr. Whitmarsh was a great professor and I recommend him highly. He was clear with instructions about the course and had some really funny lectures. He does have a little dark humor but it made the class more fun because students have dark humor; he also really knew and loved what he was talking about and was able to answer every question.
Terrible professor. Takes no consideration for your situation, whether it be financial, family matters, or personal matters he will not care. If something is not in his liking in your assignment you will get a 0. If the similarity score is a little to high for his liking you will get a 0. Don't tryn email him as he will no change his mind.
Worst professor I've had. So snarky and so rude constantly, no compassion whatsoever. DO NOT take his online class, it gives you almost nothing to work with. He also does absolutely nothing to help his students succeed in his class. 80% of the grade rests on 4 exams. His bias towards his in-person students is evident. Would rate 0/5 if possible.
He is a radical conservative man. I'm not going to lie. He is a little funny, but he is so rude. I had an A all through the semester until I took the final, and he gave me a zero for the writing portion of the test and commented that we didn't learn about what I talked about, and I 100% know we did. The class is easy, though.
Whilethe class itself wasn't too bad the professor was infuriating, I would honestly take a class with him again but try not to interact with him much since the class itself wasn't really difficult. However I was a hybrid student so this may not apply to all people.
He's super dry and mean but he's funny. Fantastic and engaging lectures, too. Don't expect him to care AT ALL about you or your personal life, though. With all of that said, he's not completely soulless, as he just *barely* let me take an exam after I slept in and missed the due date... twice.
Professor Whitmarsh is a cool teacher. He did engage with the class often and there was always a lot of conversations. Homework was easy and tests were easy. Just do the work on time and you'll get an A.
The lectures are the best way to learn and understand the material and the prof. gives interesting analogies and interacts with everyone, plus he is funny. You'll have an A if you read and do the work on time. THIS IS A COLLEGE COURSE, the prof. doesn't necessarily have to "care" about you; he gives the lectures and you do the work. Very simple.
The class is not bad overall, but he gives a lot of reading. The tests are very hard. He uses the online textbook and assigns a lot of reading and quizzes.
This professor is absolutely horrible. I do not recommend him at all. He gives you a grade of 0 even for the simplest mistake.
online class not set up clearly/ assignments not showing timely with correct due dates and then due to initial assignments (that weren't visible) not being turned in, was dropped for "attendance" issue for an online class! Emails to class were rude and dismissive telling students if they didn't like to drop and sign up for another professor...
This guy is the worst professor I have ever had! He'll give you a grade of 0 on any assignment you complete for absolutely no reason at all.
