Cool & funny guy. Doesn't look like a biology teacher. Difficult class for someone who isn't a biology major. ATTEND EVERY CLASS, otherwise there's no hope of getting a good grade. Be prepared to take a million quizzes and only 2 tests. This is definitely not a class to fall behind in and NOT an easy A. A lot of material to cover & tons of notes.

J IS AN AWESOME TEACHER, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE STRUGGLING WITH BIOLOGY. VERY WILLING TO HELP STUDENTS WITH QUESTIONS AND MAKE SURE THEY LEARN WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW FOR QUIZZES AND EXAMS. The first day I left crying because I was sure that it was too hard, and now it's my favorite class, I didn't understand something he didn't call me out in front of class he came over and helped until i got it, if i didn't he tried a diff approach, i completely understand him, he filters out the crap, I HAVE VANILLAISM! (Genetic Inside Joke lol)

This semester was the first class he ever was absent due to family emergency which he advised of his possible absence 2 weeks in advance, and got a substitute so we wouldn't get behind, very helpful, doesn't look like a typical teacher but just wait and you won't be sorry, don't be afraid to ask 'stupid' questions either, he's good

J is, in my opinion, the perfect instructor. His lectures and help are so clear that young kids could learn Biology! He encourages you to study the pre/post lab questions in the book for the quizes and mid/final term exams, but does not require you to turn in anything. Show up to class, participate, pass weekly quizes+mid/final exams & your golden!

Jay has an awesome, somewhat unconventional approach to things. He makes this class fun and has really neat tricks to remember important facts. Do your pre- & post-labs and you'll do fine. He explains things clearly and responds promptly to ?'s.

Jason is a very cool teacher he helps you anytime you need it. Even if you need help on a day he is not here he just tells you to email him and he meets you as long as its after he teaches at UNM. He spends time with you to help you with anything you need. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn and not feel presured.

Great teacher explains things good and will help you if you have questions about anything. make sure you do all of your pre labs and post labs.

Jay was an good instructor, didn't really have to study for his quizzes, it covered most of pre-lab questions and very little material of previous lab experiments. Explains material very well and offers personal tips on learning the material. Do well on quizzes, i maintained a 90 on them and got a C on the midterm and final and passed with a B :)

Offered a lot of great learning mechanisms to tackle key concepts in bio. Good sense of humor. Always walked around and made sure everyone understood; he didn't just throw you into the shark pool (which is a common tendency for most lab teachers). I really enjoyed this class & highly recommend it.

This lab teacher is great. Easy to understand, helpful. If you do the labs you can pretty much pass. Midterm and final are a little difficult. Don't be late because he gives quizzes right when class starts. Read the pre-labs. Good experience.

Great teacher! He will explain everything and emphasize on the important things. He tells you what to study for, and what is just useful to know. Quizzes are easy if you do the prelab - almost exact questions. Easy grade and laid back class. Loved him! Wish he taught lecture too.

If you notify Jason when you miss a day, he will allow you to make up the lab in another lab class that week. Quizzes every week. Tests are the midterm and final. Homework are the post-labs if you didn't finish them in lab. He doesn't check your lab book though. Very clear lectures, you can tell he "dumbs it down". More than willing to help.

J was one of the most fun teachers I've ever had. He was always available to his students and wanted you to pass, but he won't beg you to do the homework. Do post and pre-labs before and after class and his class is a breeze.

J is an amazing and fun instructor. He makes Bio lab simple and easy. Do the prelabs and post labs and you'll have an A. Do not skip class or make it up if you have to be absent. He is happy to help you if you ask. I would totally take him again.

It should be a pretty straightforward easy class. He's really nice and friendly but he can be quite long winded. He can also be a hard grader.

GREAT professor. He's very flexible with you coming to another class on a different day if you have to miss a class. If you don't understand something he does not hesitate to help and give one-on-one time. I once was in class and the girl next to me had completely given up. She got up to leave and J wouldn't let her. He sat her down and explained.

Do your pre labs and take notes during lecture. He tells you what will be on quiz or test. If you don't understand something or need help he is very easy to talk with and is more than happy to help.

By far the best teacher I've ever had! Show up to class and you'll pass; everything you need to know is gone over in lecture. When doing labs he basically sets up everything for you so that you are not distracted from the purpose of the lab. He is hilarious and eager to help students.

This guy understands students. He is a lot of fun to have as a teacher, explains everything really well and offers easier ways of remembering things. He also offers extra credit. He is always encouraging you to come and talk to him if you don't understand something, really makes himself available to students and wants you to succeed.

I was very nervous to take Biology (I'm a business major and hate science) but Jason is such a great professor! He is always available if you have questions and makes the material easy and fun to learn. His labs are straight forward and simple to do. I would recommend him and would take him again if I could!

JZ is always approachable & helpful; asked for help multiple times without a scheduled appointment. Don't even know when his office hours were. He tells you directly what he expects. Do your work and you will do great. He provided a free online textbook. Score! And he's entertaining. You can tell that this guy wants his students to succeed.

He's my favorite instructor! Really sweet, super funny. He lectures for a while in lab so we fully understand the material before hands on. He makes the lab class run it's full time span though and sometimes it doesn't really need to. Overall a great guy! I would strongly recommend him to anyone wanting a solid starting point in biology.

Best Bio Lab instructor out there! Simple, Mr. Zsemlye is the tasty fun cheese to the relatively bland macaroni that is biology. I looked forward to every class session, his lectures are always fun and on topic. He doesn't waste time, he manages to successfully integrate humor into the subject matter without devaluing it or getting off subject.

Best teacher I've had at CNM. I learned more about biology in his lab class than in lecture. There's a weekly quiz but does a great job preparing the class for it. Jason makes learning fun and is hilarious. Take him! You won't regret it!

Jason was awesome! I enjoyed his class a lot and that says something because I dislike science. He gives you a paper to fill out during his PowerPoint lecture and then he quizzes you the next class on the material on that paper. Not much homework was given and his study guides are great. I wish I would've taken him for the Lab too.

Mr. Z's lectures are really good, clear, concise, and has a great personality. I would recommend him as a professor to anyone taking A & P. He is a great addition to the teaching community at CNM.

Cool guy! No book necessary, all info on slides that you can print out. Graded on exams and review sheets before class that you'll get 100 on if you show up to class. Study guides provided for exams that kinda help, but reviewing the slides helps. Overall great teacher, wish he was teaching 2310 next semester

Mr. Zsemlye is one of the greatest instructors I've had at CNM. He lectures off powerpoints; which he makes available the day of the lecture. No assigned homework but a lot of studying and memorizing and looking up videos on youtube helps to understand the topics in depth. His very easy going and funny. Would definitely take again! Take him!

Great teacher for anyone who is able to study on their own. Lectures are engaging and entertaining, however you still need to be able to study outside of class. No homework, 3 exams and a final. One of the best teachers I've had in a long time.

Taking A & P with Jason was the best choice I could have made he is AMAZING!!!!!! He is super straight forward with what he will have on exams and final and is super accessible to answering questions, he even give you his cell phone number in case you have questions outside office hours. Jason gives extra credit every day, i could go on, take him!!

He sets you up for success by giving him basically every possible way to contact him, that he's always at CNM to meet with you if you need help. He gives 3 tests and one final. He explains everything really well. I never imagined I'd understand the concept as well as I did with him. Great instructor.

He is a great teacher. He gives you every conceivable way to contact him, both during school hours and outside. He will work with you to help you better understand something. He made concepts and vocab stick in my head that I never would have gotten with any other professor. I even went for help twice outside of class to get help on the Microscopes

His lectures are great and to the point. He gives some extra credit but he gives the same extra credit to all his students. Before exams he goes over his study guild with you and asks the hard questions so you have a better idea of what you really need to look over and study. Before an exam he will allow you to ask questions to clarify answers.

Jason is a great Microbiology instructor. He gives 6% extra credit on each exam, and the exams come directly from his lectures. You get points basically for showing up to class. It's clear he really wants his students to pass.

He is one of my favorite teachers up to date. He cares so much and is totally aware when he has to teach dry subjects and will do everything to speed through it or get the main points because even he is horribly bored. Hes hilarious and will bend over backwards to meet with you or help you understand anything you have trouble with

Best professor's among UNM & CNM, hands down. Jason is really efficient at what he does. He presents info. in non-overwhelming way. A&P I is rough but makes concepts clear. Answers ?'s without making you feel a bother and def knows his stuff. A professor for the students. Had for bio 1410 too. Text is online (free) gives out lots of resources too

I took a late start class with Jason, and he accommodated for the fact that the semester was a lot shorter. He is very engaging in lecture, and he gives out a few extra credit points. His exams are very straightforward, so if you study the PowerPoints, you will do well.

Great instructor! He made every lecture interesting. Attendance isn't super mandatory but if you miss lectures you miss test material. We didn't use a textbook because everything was in his lectures. 10/10.

Jason is great. Attempts to make a very lecture heavy class entertaining with dad jokes, and Simpsons references, and personal anecdotes. Very available for whatever you may need. I took A&P before taking this, and it was painfully easy. I would recommend the same, even though it's not required. Opened the book once. DO NOT BUY BOOK. Great class!

Jason is hilarious, he's a little goofy but that's what makes him, him. He is a great professor & really explains things to make it make sense! His tests are fairly hard but our test average was always 90%, you just need to study!

Jason was my absolute favorite professor hands down. I was pretty scared about taking biology but Jasons way of teaching is awesome. Show up, listen to lecture, complete review of class, leave. No homework. He presents the class in a way where I was excited to go and not have to worry about unnecessary projects, art designs, coloring activities, etc. Tests are focused and specific, but his lectures cover everything. Also gives you his personal cell to ask questions. Awesome guy

Professor Zsemlye had great lectures that were not only interesting, but hilarious and well-paced. He was available outside the classroom, answered any questions, and gave points just for attending. An A was definitely achievable on all of his tests (which had extra credit and were T/F, multiple choice, and matching). There was minimal homework.

I will not lie this class is hard. The professor is amazing and always willing to help. He will even do zoom meetings with you. He records lectures to go with the class material CNM created. He knows how hard CNM made the class during COVID and tries to help you out as much as possible. I wish he taught more Bio classes, I would take them all!

Pretty easy class. I had no issues. I would much rather do an in-person class, but this self-guided course was also a good alternative.

I loved Jasons class! Not only was he amazing at teaching this subject he made it so easy to retain the information and understand the material. He is funny & lecture heavy. He gives study guides which match the exams & extra credit, the quizzes you do in each class you do together, and those are good study guides for the exams! I learned so much!

Great teacher. His class structure is very easy to follow, and exams are almost word for word from the PowerPoints he uses. Super easy intro class. If you need to get a science credit out of the way, take him.

Book came purchased, but we did not use them for his class. He used PowerPoint slides of the BASIC information he wanted you to know and only focused on. EXAMS (4 total) were based of his slides and only that information. Lowest exam was dropped. I preferred his teaching method over the online course. NO HOMEWORK. NO READINGS. Just his PowerPoints.

Jay was a great teacher. Pay attention and you will do fine. I could tell he likes the subject and made his lectures fun and relatable. I will definitely take his classes again. He gives you study guides for tests and the final, know the terms and you will ace his class. He gives some extra credit and also 2 points each class for showing up.

He is my favorite teacher if you see him I PROMISE, take him. He is so easy and chill, I wish I could take him again but never see him on my list anymore ;(. If you take him you'll here "not for nothing" and its just funny how many times he will say it in a class, he made me love biology and was great for my first science college class.

Jason is an awesome instructor. Honestly, hands down one of the best instructor CNM has to offer. He gives good insight on what to know, which prepares you for the weekly quizzes. As long as you pay attention and study, you will easily pass the class. He is also accessible outside of class through emails. Also, the class I took was a 2225L class.

Great teacher! Only explained what was absolutely necessary for the class. Doesn't waste any of your time on info that doesn't matter to the course. Only thing he grades are ,attendance ,3 exams ,and the final.

I'm tempted to say that this man is my favorite professor I've ever had. He's funny and respectful. He is lecture heavy but it's not overwhelming. You're basically only graded on tests and his review questions (attendance). So of course you gotta do well on the tests. He is totally on your side though and wants you to pass! Lots of EC! Loved him.

I absolutely adore him. He's hilarious and super cool. He teaches well but is lecture-heavy. He only grades based on attendance and tests, so be sure to study! However, he always asks stuff that he has 100% touched on in class. Offers lots of extra credit on tests as well so plenty of room for error. Definitely recommended for any biology course.

This professor is the best professor I have ever had in taking bio classes. He teaches you what you NEED to know and is very clear on what you need to know for exams. His lectures are very clear and explained and he goes through them at a great pace.

Easy, esp if you want to understand developmentally fr ground up. Moderate Exams. Can be a bit weee squirrel, caring, will explain it from a dozen angles until you DO understand, esp in Labs. I took BIOL1140L, BIOL2210 Lecture, and BIOL2225L with him. If you need deep diving/conceptual/clinical, take Jim Nif, but Jason amazing in his own way!!!

Was a great professor! He does weekly quizzes of the material you've covered. If you want to do well then study the material terms. For A&P it's lots of memorizing but he gives you the terms and things that you should memorize.

Really kind hearted and genuinely cares/wants you to succeed. He makes the material easy to understand and much less intimidating than other professors make it out to be. You still have to put in the time to study but he breaks down the concepts in such a digestible way. Highly recommend.

I can't say enough good things about this professor. I work full time and I'm taking other classes so I took his course online. He records the zoom lectures and posts them. The lectures are great. He's funny and he cares. If you watch his lectures during the week you'll be prepared for his quizzes. Also very nice guy. He does give extra credit too!

Professor Zsemlye was great! He really cares about your grade and will do anything he can to help you. He provides lots of bonus questions/extra credit on all the exams to help your grade. No homework just 4 review questions after each lecture that he gives you the answer to in his lectures, with that being said the exams make up most your grade.

Professor Jason was great! He clearly explains what his expectations are for the term and his grading system. Extra credit is offered for each exam and will give quizzes after lecture in which is how he accounts for attendance. Professor Jason tries his best to be sure your understanding and connecting with each lecture. You will need to study!

Lectures are explained in great ways to ensure comprehension. End of class lecture review questions are worked on together as a class and will give you automatic points, also gives points for being present in class! Does Not give assignments/homework but 3 exams a semester that require studiying for. Good Luck, & thank you prof. Jason!!!
