always so cheerful and he enjoys teaching SO much! fav prof all-time! PRS rulez
Really nice prof with a sense of humor that's actually funny.
he's so funny! and it's true, you really gotta love the accent!
He's more of an entertainer than a prof, and VERY well prepared.

He is entertaining and helpful...an awesome prof.
Very funny, well-prepared and intelligent
Organised, friendly, fun, funny!
Funny guy, very dedicated, uses own time to help students learn!
So nice, he's such a good prof
Very enthusiastic and helpful prof. But hard to understand at times.

make a very clear and understable lectures...funny and nice
awesome prof! understanding, funny and makes physics interesting!
cool, funny, dedicated... very thoughtful of students... but studying is needed
I got 100 on all midterms, easy class, very nice guy. Always dressed up!
nice person, funny, smart, well-prepared, good prof
Very funny! Hard to understand accent tho...but he's very considerate and very willing to help, very approachable. Excellent prof!
Best Prof at UBC peroid.
Definitely one of the best profs I've had at UBC.. Javed is hilarious! His physics demonstrations rule.. Roe sub all the way!
talks like Apu. Very well dressed all the time. Was trying to be fairly easy. I didn't like the way he spent too much time on topics people didn't get, not realizing he was weeks and weeks behind, then near the term really rushed to finish the course.
This guy is the best!
THE BEST PROF EVER!! Amazing teacher, extremely dedicated. Just awesome. This guy's going to heaven.

the best prof ever!!!
worth planning your other courses around!
I graduated years ago and this is the only prof I still remember. Amazing lecturer: animated, approachable and smart. He's also hot!
great
I don't like him
Kick ass demos, and not boring at all..
the best prof ever!!!
Dr. Iqbal is good. He has nice demos and his writing is clear. Also considerate of students. It's just that I'm not a physics person and physics is not my thing.
He is a good lecturer and has a lot of really good demos. He also is very approachable and really seems to care about his students.
i've been at ubc for 4 years not and dr. iqbal is by far the best prof i've ever had...
Really good prof...very dedicated and makes sure his students do well...but sometimes I can't really understand what he's saying because of his accents
he knows what hes talking about and he knows how to communicate it effectively: an awesome teacher
He is nice, and easy. However, he has a strong accent. Most will do good in MT but screw the final. He does try to help his students, and is considerate to them.
funny guy. overrated, but good. makes himself available, but I wouldn't bother taking his help. first year physics scales up like crazy, so it doesn't matter if iqbal half-asses the last part of the course and you fail the last two pages of the final.

good sense of humour, really helpful and clear, tries really hard to make sure everyone understands the course. one of the few good physics profs
Very dedicated and very helpful. Easy midterms and final exam. Tries hard to make Physics interesting.
Had this prof for my first year physics and I have to say that he is possibly one of the best teachers I have ever had. Really really really enjoyed this guy's lectures.

An amazing man....easily the most engaging professor I have had in my five years at UBC. Thanks Dr. Iqbal!
best prof ever. cool sense of humour and very helpful. helps out students out of his own time. totally cool prof.
Very good prof, knows what he's talking about. And his in-class experiments were a hoot. Definitley a keeper. ;)
Awesome prof. It doesn't matter if you hate physics you'll still enjoy his lectures! Get him for first year phys if you have the choice!
I agree with the person who said he was overrated. He was good...but not great. Mid-terms were easy, but final was tricky. Lectures were mostly enjoyable.
A terrific prof..notes are good..midterms are rather easy..effective lectures..one of the best profs ever
if this is one of the best instructors UBC has to offer then help us please!!!
You just can't get a better prof than this guy, just sit in his class and listen to his lectures you can get at least 90% w/o studying. He makes the other profs look bad.
Funny Prof~
This prof is hot, one of the best i've had. He doesnt bore you, he's helpful, just a great prof y'all.
Love him, he's great. he has humour and thoughtful presentations that give you a new look on physics and does not comprimise the details needed for a profound understanding. Best prof, makes me like physics, which believe me is hard
Awesome prof, really couldnt ask for better. Not only does he know exactly what hes talking about, but he presents it in an engaging and interesting way. Best prof I've had in my 2 years at UBC so far!
hes hot
hes the best prof ive had. makes concepts easy and simple to understand
Javed rocks my socks
dr. iqbal was possibly da best & most personable prof i've ever had so far in UBC! not only is he an excellent lecturer, he also truly cares abt his students (YES, 250+ of us!) - u'll c wut i mean if u take his class =) lectures were interesting, he actually made me LIKE physics 4 da 1st time in my life! MTs were pretty easy but final was tricky>0<
The best physics prof ever! I've never liked physics but he breaks the concepts down so they are easy to understand. Explains the topics very clearly and is fair with midterms.
BEST TEACHER AT UBC. Made learning interesting, genuinely cares about his students, has a good sense of humour. Easy midterms. I hated physics, but I loved this class. He's AWESOME!
A great teacher. Amusing and very understanding. He goes easy on marking and explains thing competently.
Awesome prof.. midterms were pretty easy.. lectures good.. although at the start hard to understand but u get use to it.... but final was a killer.. n he made the final i believe.... but then again.. he sent out email (aww how nice) statin he understands that it was hard n he will do his job.. (ie scale...)
Struggled a little with his accent at first but I got used to it. Great sense of humor, explains things thoroughly, and uses physical demonstrations to prove concepts. Might be a little bit too easy during the term though. I got 100 and 96 on my midterms but the final was *way* harder than anything I'd seen during the course.
reminds me of an awesome highschool teacher i had...irani...seems to have a great personality...don't know how iqbal's exams are like yet...i'll find out soon
This guy is hilarious.
I wasn't in his class, but I had the benefit of having him in my tutorial class, and I must say he is one of the most helpful professors at UBC. He personally does not have to help in tutorial classes but he takes his own personal time to come in and help students with problems. I haven't seen another professor as dedicated as him.
He is sooooooooo nice !!!
he is THAT good. Best prof in UBC so far!!! (had some pretty good ones too, but he is the creme of the crop! YA! lol k that was a bit extreme, but u get wt i mean)
Awesome teacher. Makes Physics seem a lot less intimidating. Lectures are enjoyable to go to; midterm is easy. Very approachable, and excellent at explaining new concepts. Teaches the reason behind formulas - makes it easier to learn and remember. CAN be hard to understand him sometimes due to accent, but a very good prof. Definitely recommend.
He makes it his top priority to ensure that you understand the material - even in a class of 300 students. Easily the best professor i have ever had.
Javed is AWESOME. He's got a great teaching style and he made physics so interesting. He has a fantastic accent too. Definitely try to get him for Phys 101. He prepares students well for the midterms and challenging final.
JAVED is my world. he is soo freaking sweet the prs questions were on the freaking exam. It was as if he taught me everything on the exam. ALthough the only problem for my class was taht he didn't teach a small section. BUt he really willing to help when you need it and he'll answer and make sure you understand the info as if he was preping you
Great prof. Seemed like teaching was his favorite thing in the world. He made his students a priority.
Prepares you well for easy midterms. Lots of usefull handouts and many examples. Accent is understandable, and he says things really funny. There are ALWAYS demos, which are really helpful. he is truly Iqballin'. Best prof for physics.
Always made himself available for help, especially through e-mail. He e-mailed reading assignments and posted every lecture online. He knew every face in his class of 250 people, he could spot out others and would ask them to leave. Sincere and really wants you to love and understand physics like he does.
Humerous teacher.
He's very nice.
I LOVE THIS MAN. hated physics in high school, love it now. awesome prof. his notes were always clear, easy to understand, and he taught us everything we had to know for the course. he made phys 101 a breeze. HANDSOME, i love the way he says "eeeeemail"
Fantastic teacher, highly recommend him! In highschool, I did not like physics in the least, but Dr. Iqbal made the course manageable and easy to learn.
always hated physics but iqbal is so stellar. his love for teaching is obvious in every lecture which he tries to keep entertaining (as much as possible as it is physics). he has a great sense of humor and is probably the best prof i've had so far at ubc. GET INTO HIS CLASS.
Javed was amazing. Looked forward to hearing him talk in each lecture because of his great accent. Made it easy to get a good grade.
even though he has a considerable pakistani accent, he was crystal clear with his notes and his lectures. the accent and his teaching style truly defined him. very helpful and wants his students to do well. one of the best physics profs around. iqbal is truly iqballin'.
An amazing prof, he does tend to spend a little too much time on easy topics due to several individuals hes always there to help and the two midterms + the final he gave was dead easy, id definitely recommend him.
Iqbal is one of the best profs I could ever ask for! Even though he has an accent and takes some time getting used to, he explains things extremely well, and has a really positive attitude. I'd recommend everyone to take his class, because I know I did last year :D
He has such a strong accent which makes me fall for him.
Although he has an accent(cute), you can easily understand him and his lectures are crystal clear if you do prereading. He sends regular emails, tries to improve(asks us for feedback on his teaching) and holds extra problem solving sessions, which are very helpful. Such a nice guy too. Midterms are easy if you study! Won't regret taking his class!
he is great
Prof. Iqbal was the best teacher I've ever had from elementary school to current university, if you don't understand physics, definetly go with Iqbal. Where there is an Iqbal there is a way!
He's a great teacher~he gives hand out but u still need to copy some notes~
Just an awesome professor. He showed real commitment to students' learning. He sent regular emails, held problem solving sessions, and made sure you understood the physics -- why he was doing everything he could. Verbal explanations were very good in conjunction with his old-fashioned pen+paper notes feat. ppt. SO good. Made me like physics again!
He is the best teacher I have ever had. He gives crystal clear explanation with cute accent~~~He is just so nice and responsible for his teaching~~~ definately choose him when u have physics 101.
He's great!! Really cares about his students and what they learn. Definitely a professor to look for.
Javed is the man to look for! I HATED physics b4 I took this course, but hes such an active teacher that I couldnt help but listen 2 what he had to say! Hes passionate about teaching! & hes good @ staying ontop of things! He sends emails asking 4 feedback on his lectures, his notes are neat/clean & he always posts them online! U will not regret it!
Physics was my absolute WORST subject until I was taught by Javed. I managed to get an A in his class and our section has the highest average among all other physic 101s. Very active and helpful in the student's learning. He's not boring. You might find him difficult to understand at first b/c of his accent but you'll get used to it. He's the best!
Dr. Iqbal explains well, has a great deal of patience, makes lecures interactive and ensures that his students understand the course material. The exams balances math with conceptual understanding. The labs will likely hinder your marks, but your lab marks will be scaled eventually. This is in fact one of the classes I will miss for life.
100% best prof in the world. You might wanna sit near the front because his accent can be a tiny bit hard to understand at first but other than that he's AWESOME.
He is an a rly good prof. He even sometimes give u a bit more time on exams if u need it!
i can't think of a word to describe how good this prof is.if you take phy 101 from him, you wont regret it. he is very nice, passionate about his specialty, always willing to help, explains every concept super clearly, inspires his students and hes kind enough to hold extra office hrs to help his students. AWESOME PROF!
AWESOME PROF!!
He is simply the BEST!!
If you are taking Physics 101, GET INTO IQBAL'S CLASS. He is very compassionate, and most importantly, wants you to learn. This semester he even held extra problem solving sessions. If you do everything he says, it's pretty easy to get an A.
If you hated physics in high school, guaranteed you will love it after you take Physics 101 with Dr. Iqbal. His notes are exceptionally organized, and he always posts them online. So you will never need to write anything down in class. Just sit back, and relax - you will be in good hands with this professor.
Great prof and prints lecture notes for you and brings them to class! Clear and helpful and not a very hard grader. Cares about his students and how they are doing in the class. He even held an extra lecture each week (other than the scheduled 3 hours) for those who wanted to attend for extra help with solving problems!
Extremely compassionate and caring. Gave us a pep talk before the final, and genuinely wants his students to do well.
Awesome prof! Physics sucks, but this prof definately makes it a bit better. He's nice, approachable, and clear. He really really wants everyone to understand everything and to do well. TAKE HIS CLASS!
The best prof I had last term. He was really helpful and tries really hard to make class interesting and applicable. Takes a bit of time to get used to his accent but he writes everything out so it's good. Holds extra reviews session all the time. Take physics with this prof! no regrets!
If you have to take PHYS 101 TAKE IT WITH HIM!!
Clear examples, fun experiments in class and plenty of opportunity to get extra help. If you go to class, take good notes, do the question numbers and go to extra sessions when you need them ... you'll do great.
explanations are very clear
Very nice and comprehensible prof. Highly recommend him! He makes lectures interesting and concepts crystal clear!
Gives crystal clear lectures. Not very efficient at answering questions through emails though. Or he purposely ignored and wants you to go to his office hours. His midterms are alright, quite certain that he scaled the final up. He's nice but not impressed by his manners when he got impatient during labs because the TAs were late.
Okay here it is plain and simple. This guy isn't "The best prof" at all. He is just average. Lectures were boring, infact I started attending other lectures instead. I would personally recommend Mckay, solid notes and such a nice guy.
One fo the most awesome professor.Always enthusiastic about the material and eager to do interesting experiments. The mideterms and final are easy, as long as you do the online assignments and go to all lecutres. His slides and notes are extremely hopeful.
Amazing prof. I'm useless at physics but his explanations, lectures and not to mention weekly help sessions helped me pull off an A. Use of clickers really helped too.
fantastic prof.enthusiastic about material and have interesting experiments.as long as you attend lectures and do all assignments, midterm&fianl should be easy. STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!
Awesome =) Take him if you hate and suck at physics !
Awesome prof and a really cool guy. Cares about the students and is extremely approachable. Holds problem solving sessions out of class which are also very good and no other phys 101 profs do this. If your taking Phys 101 DEFINATELY take it with Dr. Iqbal
Very helpful and easygoing prof.
Great professor, the best I had in first year. He really enjoys physics and cares about his students. He wants everyone to do good. He is very helpful goes beyond what normal professors do to makes sure the students understand concepts. THANKS Dr.Iqbal.
This guy is a physics teaching god. If physics isn't your strong point, make all efforts to get into his class. Don't be scared off by his accent, you get used to it and he makes expectations very clear. Good humour and holds his own problem solving sessions that are literally questions from midterms/finals. Excellent teacher.
BEST PROF I THINK I WILL EVER ENCOUNTER IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously
Iqbal's a BOSS!!!!
One of the best professors I have ever had. He puts in the extra effort to help his students.
Simply the best. No university professors will feed you this much. As long as you attend his lecture and possibly attend his optional "problem solving sessions," you will ace this course :) Take him if you can!
Hated physics before, absolutely LOVE IT NOW. AWESOME PROF YOU'LL EVER HAVE. Get in his class!
excellent prof! the best ever! take his class! the average is really good! awesome prof!
This guy is absolutely awesome! He displays an incredible compassion for students and genuinely wants the class to succeed. He offers very helpful problem solving sessions once a week and his tests are very fair (easy even) if you keep up with the course material. All around a good guy and the best prof I've ever had.
Thanks for teaching so well!
How can you not do well in a class where the prof prides himself in his students' success?
Definitely the best prof I've had at university so far. His notes tell you exactly what you need to know and are much better than the textbook. Also, he held weekly problem solving sessions where he would go over old exam problems. The problems that he goes over are VERY similar to the ones on the midterms and finals. Awesome prof overall!
he is the GOD in teaching PHY.!!!!!
Pretty ridiculous how crazy his fan base is... poor professor, not what hes amped to be.
This man is my hero. I used to want to be a doctor, but now I want to be a physicist
Great prof! Clearly wants his students to do well.
best teacher ever, he will do whatever he can to help you. He even holds his own problem solving sessions!
FREKIN AWESOME!! WOULD MARRY HIM IF I COULD!!
Best prof on the planet! nice and caring ! i love him!
The best professor anyone could ever ask for! Left my binder in one of his lectures and he searched my name, found my email and told me to meet him somewhere to return it to me. Such a nice professor! Always excited to go to his class, truly wishes the best for all his students. Make sure if you take physics 101 it is was Javed!!
Good prof.
Great prof. Has an accent which makes the classes much more interesting. Not too hard to understand.
Great Proff. He really cares about his students, and his accent is awesome to listen to as well.
made my first semester experience at UBC amazing. Highly recommend him for phys 101.
This prof is amazing, he will make physics 101 a breeze and is incredibly helpful. Truly cares about his students and will make you enjoy the course. He has a great accent and is one handsome guy. 10/10
Honestly my favorite prof at UBC. He really engages the class and is just a very high quality prof. Take his class!!!
Iqbal is amazing!!! I hated this course and he made it bearable. He also cares so much about his students :)
he won't pronounce anything right, ever. but he's funny as hell and as long as you respect him and come to class he'll do everything he can to get you an A.
He is my favorite professor. He does anything to help his students learn and gives amazing lectures
He's a great prof and good at explaining the material. The exams were open book although I heard this was the first year for that (2014 fall) and definitely fair. He does lots of clicker questions and examples during class and there were also problem solving sessions offered every week for extra help.
He is an EXCELLENT prof who cares about his students and teaches with passion!
Very passionate about physics. Made the expectations for the course very clear. He had many resources available for students and did his best to explain thoroughly and effectively. His in class demonstrations were very useful. Used clickers occasionally and worked through many examples in class. Overall great prof, good class and super nice guy!
Honestly one of the most helpful profs I've ever had. I'm not a big fan of physics but having him as my prof really helped me get through the course. During the 2 lectures he wasn't there and we had substitutes, I realized just how lucky id been to be in his clas. Always there for you and willing to help. Highly recommend taking the course with him
WOW. Iqbal is a god. I praise him. I make sacrifices for him. I'm kidding, but I hope you get the point. His lectures are amazing; he does a good number of interesting demos. What makes him so amazing is his obvious passion and love for physics and his students. If you want to see how pro a physics prof can be, go sit in his class. Iqbal, 3
Has really useful help sessions that not many people showed up to. I would defiantly say go to them because it really helped me
Great prof! Definitely made my term better :)
His lectures are very engaging, and the textbook is a MUST. Many clicker and midterm questions were based on the textbook examples. He's definitely ready to help when you need it, and the material isn't too complicated either.
Physics is a tough class, but Dr. Iqbal makes it enjoyable for the time in the lecture. All notes are posted online, but usually he takes the time to go through a few examples methodically in class. Expect homework questions to be polled at the next lecture. In class demonstrations are interesting.
He is AMAZING! Clear lecture notes, super helpful examples, makes even the toughest concepts super easy to understand. Go to class, as his lectures are indispensable. 10/10 would recommend
AYYY IQBAL IS A GOD. IF YOU GO TO CLAS YOU WILL BE IQBALLIN' BECAUSE HE IS SUPER HELPFUL AND GIVES YOU LOTS OF PRACTICE!!!
Dr Iqbal was the best - being someone who dislikes physics, the way he taught made my semester! I am considering taking more physics classes just to have him again.
Extremely effective instructor. Went above and beyond for us. The class was also extremely easy, with a class average of 76%.
Javed is an amazing professor. His lectures are very clear and concise. I wish I'll see him again in my other physics courses.
I hate physics, but Dr. Iqbal made the class very bearable. Lots of picky online homework though, which is annoying.
He's such a sweet professor who truly cares about his students. He provided great review before midterms/for the final. He makes physics interesting and never fails to have a smile on his face. On the last day of class, you could see that he genuinely meant it when he told all of us that we are bright individuals and that we were built with dreams.
Great prof. Came into this course with little background on fluids and waves, but i managed to do well cuz Iqbal is an amazing lecturer. Lectures are filled with great examples and also provides lots of practice problems. exams are openbook so taking notes in class or printing out his notes are very helpful. Also wants people to do well in phys.
His way of teaching is very effective since he uses concepts we already know or studied and using them derives new formulas and shows proof for other new concepts. This makes you understand why formulas work and not just that they do, making it easier to use them and really get the physics behind it.
Javed is an awesome professor who helped made PHYS101 bearable for me. I don't like physics at all but Javed's humour and genuine concern for students made PHYS101 a pretty fun and easy course. He was very dedicated to students in the beginning of the semester but as time went by, he seemed to upload less and less solutions on connect.
Dr. Iqbal is an amazing professor. His lectures are never dull and it's clear that he really cares about his students. Make sure to go to his problem-solving sessions if you need help, he's very approachable.
He's just amazing, what can I say more. Iqbal made my most hated subject into my highest mark. If you do all the problem solving questions and section homework online, you'll definitely be alright. Iqbal explains the content in a fairly interesting way and he's scarily intelligent if you approach him during office hours.
Probably the best professor I had in first year! He makes the material and his expectations crystal clear. Really helpful in and outside of class, and the questions in his "Weekend Fun" assignments are really reflective of the midterms and exam.
I couldn't fit in all the options, but this prof is the BEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD. He's hilarious, he has AMAZING LECTURES, he's caring, totally approachable, lovable, & he can make anyone who ever hated physics LOVE physics despite the difficult online homework. He made me consider transferring from science to engineer.
He's got such a great attitude during classes and is always excited to show us experiments and such
My best first year prof. He was absolutely amazing. He knows he subjective extremely well (he's apart of the team that WROTE the textbook), and he funny, and makes physics interesting. He also always tells his students they can achieve anything and told us on the last day of class "Canada has a bright future because of students like you."
Not enough good things to say about Dr Iqbal. He is by far the best professor I have ever had. He has amazing lectures and makes the material easy to understand and walks you through everything. The midterms are very reflective of the practice problems he gives out. Dr Iqbal GOAT.
Professor Iqbal was amazing! Hilarious and extremely passionate about what he teaches. He believes there is potential in every student and is very caring and considerate. Midterms and finals are standardized between all PHYS 101 sections, they are quite simple. Labs were a waste of time and had little to do with the course.
Best lecturer I had in first year. Enthusiastic, passionate, approachable and hilarious. The only reason I haven't gave up in first year.
Amazing professor! Dr Iqbal is engaging, enthusiastic, kind, and funny. He really knows his material and his lectures are content heavy but interesting. Make sure you listen to what he says more so though because a lot of important information will be mostly lectured instead of written - good way to force you to listen and show up to class. 10/10
He's my pick for PHYS 101 prof to take, since his lectures were so entertaining, with some fun demos. Has a slight accent, but you get used to it really quick and understanding what he says was never an issue. Exams are open book, although that doesn't help too much. Do click questions from the other sections since Iqbal doesn't post the answers.
Professor Iqbal is AMAZING. He really believes that all of his students have potential, and takes time giving explanations. I didn't too so well in physics in high school, but I got 100 on the midterms and ended with an A+ in the class (just for perspective). Sometimes readings were fairly dense, but his lectures help out a lot! :)
I was not in Dr. Iqbal's section, but because we were able to access help sessions out of class from any of the three PHYS101 profs, I always tried to attend Dr. Iqbal's help sessions. He takes a lot of care in explaining hard concepts, is extremely patient, and believes that all of us has the ability to succeed. Lecture slides are also very clear.
Way too overrated. It is hard to understand him through the accent. His lecture slides are great. It was hard to follow along.
if you come to him with an issue, he is very generous and flexible with fixing it.
Prof. Iqbal is different. His lectures are engaging and he is also extremely helpful. He even held once-a-week problem-solving sessions that did great help towards the tests. The tests are not hard, though, but challenging enough that one has to really put in his or her effort for it.
Best professor I've had at UBC so far. Does his best to make the material interesting, does the occasional experiment in class, and is clear in his presentations. I always looked forward to his lectures.
A great and nice professor! He thoroughly went over everything that he needed to, and midterm and final aren't hard if you pay attention, take notes, and review your notes!! He takes clear and organized notes with you so you can write them directly in your notebook and then its easy to study from since he wrote out everything you need to know.
Professor Iqbal gives amazing lectures that are straight to the point and solidify your understanding. He held optional practice problem solving sessions every week (I HIGHY recommend attending) that really helped solidify my understanding. Between the multiple choice exams and all the extra support, you should get a good grade as long as you try.
Dr. Iqbal is one of the best profs I've had at UBC. His lectures are great and he teaches everything in a way that really makes sense. He goes through tons of practice problems and goes through everything you need to know to do well.
Dr. Iqbal is so wholesome and caring. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and he wants them to do the best they can. He always stays after class ends and answers questions for as long as students need (in addition to his regular office hours). He is very thorough in his explanations and we went through many helpful clicker questions.
Often stays for 30 minutes or more after lectures to explain the topics to people who have questions and his teaching style online is really good. He writes his notes and uses slides (posted before the class) so you can go over the material. He also posts extra take-home problems in case you need more practice. Take physics with him if you can.
Dr. Iqbal's lectures are really great; he proves formulas and does practice problems that are similar to exam question format so you don't have to read the textbook at all. Also hosts many office hrs before exams and answer questions rly well. Definitely pick him if you can !
Dr Iqbal was the sweetest prof! His lectures were super useful due to the use of clicker questions. Personally, I found the fluid unit confusing at times (it may just be a more abstract unit in general), but he explained the rest of the course perfectly! I could tell he cared about us a lot and if you put work into this course you will love it!
Professor Iqbal is an amazing and caring prof. The course material might be difficult to understand at first, but his slides and in class clicker questions will prepare you for any assessment. His slides could almost replace everything in the textbook, its concise and well written with all the examples/information you would need. AWESOME!!
While I hate physics, Dr. Iqbal's support definitely helped me pass this class. Explains all material to his best and genuinely wants all of his students to pass. The inspirational speech he gave to us before our final exam will always be remembered.
I only went to live lectures for his GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! If I worked harder I would have received a better grade, but you can still get a decent grade with bare minimum studying.
sometimes goes too fast, but overall very experienced prof. notes/ppts are quite organized
prof iqbal is so sweet i loved him
Dr. Iqbal is an experienced and caring professor. He makes his lectures clear by annotating his slides and working through problems. He also gives time for the class to attempt the problems before going over them. He always does his best to find time to answer students' questions and listens to feedback regarding his teaching.
Alongside Professor Gregor for CPSC 110, he is the greatest professor I have had so far. His lectures are extremely concise and clear, he makes me love physics. Would pay double the amount of money I paid just learn my other courses with him had he been a computer science professor. 10/10 Love this dude. Straight G.O.A.T.
My FAV prof. He's a real gem.
you can tell he really cares about what he teaches and he really cares that we all pass his course. he even sent out emails to the students saying to talk to him if we were struggling. hands down best prof I've had this semester.
Dr. Iqbal was a very engaging professor. As a student who did not previously like physics, I really liked this course and was able to achieve a great grade.
Dr. Iqbal is an absolute gem, I had him for 2021W1. He is super sweet, funny, super patient and helpful in office hours, and fun lectures! Very useful clicker questions for studying, no surprises on exams, records extra study sessions, and always willing to go the extra mile for his students. He made me become not afraid of physics! 100/10
Dr. Iqbal is absolutely the best Uni Prof that I have ever met. He gives awesome lectures with experiments (visual demonstrations), he spends his personal time to give students extra Midterm review sessions. No surprise on Midterms, review session covered everything so far (just had one yesterday). Thank you Dr Iqbal!
I'm not enrolled in Javid's class, but I attend the lectures. His lecture are the best physics lectures one can get in UBC. The textbook is an online interactive textbook on edX, so you don't have to buy anything. The lectures are very clear, so if you attend the lectures and pay attention, you are definitely going to get a good grade.
Lectures are well structured consisting of great explanation and derivation of important concepts, as well as many example problems that help on exams. Assignments, tutorials, quizzes, and exams are all very fair
Tons of clickers, but this guy does them the RIGHT way. Loved the in-class demos, general enthusiasm, and accessibility on Piazza/after class. I am not a physics person and have come close to failing physics courses in the past, but I enjoyed this course more than the courses I'm taking for my actual major this term.
Literally the greatest Physics professor of all time. He is a true inspiration and I do not believe any physics professor can be as great as Prof Iqbal.
Absolute best prof! Very patient and cares a lot about his students. Gave us bonus marks for participating in a survey, and gives very interesting and clear lectures.
The BEST first year physics course to take, easily understandable content and good grade breakdown. I greatly enjoyed having Dr. Iqbal as my prof. Strongly recommend this class
goat prof 10/10
Dr Iqbal must be protected at all costs, he is the most wholesome, kind, and caring professor. He teaches well, content is easy to understand and follow along, and he loves to teach which is evident in how he lectures. Take his classes, "they will be very simple, yeah."
he is such a loving and caring prof. I loved his demonstrations. The way he explains physics concepts in class is always very clear. He not only explains the concept, but he is able to connect knowledge dots together and give you a holistic idea of the bigger picture
I loved going to his lectures since all the course material was explained very well. Content taught in class was also fairly represented in midterms and exams. Definitely recommend!
BEST PROF EVER! Dr. Iqbal is the most wholesome and caring prof and is super funny, he does everything he can to get you an A. The lectures are funny and clear, and the midterms were relatively easy, but I found the final a lot harder. I highly recommend this prof!
Super caring about his students, lectures are great and enjoyable, and exams are super fair. A lot of help is available to students. I only took this course for requirement and after the course I remain not a huge fan of physics but prof Iqbal made my experiences going through phys extremely smooth. It was not as nightmarish as I expected.
Best prof! He cares a lot about his students and makes sure that we are all very well prepared for exams. Everything is straightforward in terms of material. As someone who did not like physics very much, he made everything understandable and I actually had a lot of fun taking this course with him. Exams were straightforward.
great prof!
my boy
as someone who sucked at physics in high school, javed was literally the best. so kind and so wholesome!! his exams are super straightforward, and his lectures are genuinely entertaining. this will easily be your favourite course if you take it, trust me
He is the best prof ever !! He loves his subject and makes every class fun by practically illustrating the concepts. He is available outside and is super caring and motivational. I started loving physics. Def take his class, no one teaches the way he does;)
Genuinely cares about you and wants you to succeed. Never been a physics fan myself but I had so much fun in his class. Hope everything good happens to Dr. Iqbal.
Prof Iqbal is one of the most caring prof I had. He cares about the students and try to make the classes as fun and engaging as possible. He is also very approachable after classes.
Best prof ever.
Javed is definitely a 5/5 prof. I loved his lectures, demonstration, and passion for physics. If you're taking a physics course, Javed is the first choice.
Great prof. Exams were straightforward and easy. Only time I had trouble was on the final, but I think the other section's prof (Plotkin) made most of the questions because I could tell which questions were from Iqbal and which were from Plotkin and Plotkin's was a lot harder. Pretty sure final was scaled and course avg is 80%.
Amazing lecturer, very caring and engaging, and exams were very straightforward. All the material you need to know is covered in his lectures. Highly recommend!
Very clear in his lectures! Made the content easily understandable.
Dr. Iqbal is passionate about teaching and he really care about if his students understand the concepts. He is very good at nuclear physics and also very good at teaching nuclear physics, which is a trait that not many people possess.
His grading scheme is clear and the tests were very fair. The only thing that I disliked was the textbook, but you could get by and get a good mark without reading it as his slides are well made and clear.
Amazing professor - lectures are crystal clear and tests are fair. Didn't need the textbook much, as the slides are super helpful. Unstuckstudy AI was great for practice too.
he was so amazing, not my prof but i only watched his lecture over my own prof.
If you're considering taking Physics 131, take it with Professor Javed don't even hesitate! His lectures are clear, engaging, and incredibly well-structured. He explains concepts so effectively that you won't need to reteach yourself at home. The exams are fair, and his passion for teaching shows. One of the best professors at UBC!
Dr. Iqbal was the best professor I had during the semester. His lectures are really engaging & clear, and I found this final and midterm the easiest to study for. All the lectures and material are available online which made reviewing course material easy. You get to realize that he cares for all his students and gives it his all. Highly recommend
Iqbal taught in a very understandable way and always found a way to include demos when he could. He was often very funny and just an overall silly guy. The courseload - while there was quite a bit - not too hard as most deadlines are very soft and do not give reprecussions. Midterm and final were VERY fair and mostly like the edX.
10/10 best first year physics prof. the goat.
i would let him adopt me
Kind prof. Very good at teaching.
Dr. Iqbal was awesome, you can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed in the course. I took this class alongside 4 other first year sciences in my 1st semester at UBC and found it fairly easy to keep up with the content. Just a tip - you should stay on top of edX, do NOT let it pile up until the end of the semester! GL!
He teaches the content very clearly and goes through problems step by step, making lectures easy to follow. Overall, he is a very caring professor who genuinely wants us to succeed.
Really knowledgeable and passionate; super committed to helping students succeed. Fun lectures with lots of demos. He really wants students to get a strong understanding of the material, which is not difficult in the way he presents it. Do the edX and his weekend fun exercises. Exams were really fair.
