He is very confident about the material and eager to teach students.
very helpful, do the homework and the reviews. reviews are very similar to tests and his assignments are fair. definitely recommend
Good professor, clearly knows the subject matter and is engaged with students.
Extremely helpful professor. Aims at conceptual understanding rather than just running through the problems.
Homework is easy, teaches class well, doesn't take himself too seriously but keeps to the material
The class is very interesting, give it time to grow on you. The professor is superb, and also try reading the textbook it helps a lot.
He is a good teacher and he has fun in class. If you show up and pay attention you should get an A. His reviews are the most helpful reviews ever.
Lectures are clear and comprehensive and notes will be extremely helpful when doing homework and studying for exams. Only criticism would be that he tends to lecture pretty quickly so it can be difficult to catch up if you fall behind with your notes. But this is a minor issue, and you definitely won't regret having him as a professor. He's great.
This professor is the easiest possible Linear Algebra Professor. Anyone who didn't give him a 5 on easiness is flat out lying. This is a professor who will teach you nothing if that's what you want. You do not need to learn anything to pass with an A. However, this does not mean that he isn't a great professor. He can teach you A LOT if YOU try.
As others have said, he is a great professor and the class is easy. This combination actually is perfect for learning the material if you try. He does move pretty quickly in class, but he's more than willing to answer questions. I think he's funny as well =)
One of the best professors I've had at this university. Willing to help students, unlike some teachers who live to make their students' lives miserable. His reviews are very helpful and grading is fair. Good sense of humor.
Weekly homework assignments, worth 40% of final grade, are sometimes gone over before the assignment is due. Exams are based off of the textbook review. Provides review sessions for exams. While he isn't the best teacher, he is understanding. Total comprehension of material isn't emphasized so the class is easy.
Homework is worth 40% of the grade and there is quite a bit of extra credit. Even though the class is easy, you learn a lot because he focuses on the basics before moving ahead.
Greatest math class I had so far for 4yrs of school. He is very nice and willing to help students and explain stuffs very well. Take his class he is the best.
Great professor! Explains concepts in class very clearly and cracks a joke or two just to make sure everyone is still interested. He is also very understanding and helpful during special circumstances.
Javid is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. He is VERY easy to talk to, simply a nice person and just a fantastic teacher overall. If you can take a class with him...DO IT!
Javid is a really helpful and clear teacher. His lecture notes are helpful and he doesn't try to trick students. He definitely keeps the class laughing and the exams and homework are very fair.
Javid is one of the best professors in UIUC. Difference from other professors is that he explains all concepts using examples. Because of that, I have understood the concepts easily. Grading system is fair, which is 4time exams (15pts each) and homework (40pts). If you are in the entire lecture, you can definitely get good grade :)
Awesome professor! Goes through concepts thoroughly and really helps you understand the material.
Dude is a great teacher to have for a course like Math 415. He's willing to help and takes the time to make sure his students understand the concepts. Makes lectures fun with his natural charm and sense on humor.
Favorite math instructor I've ever had. Though I have a very limited interest in Linear Algebra, I found the class consistently engaging. He makes great effort to impart true understanding of the material in the most accessible manner, but at the same time doesn't take himself too seriously. Going to class is crucial, but if you do, an A is easy.
The professor has natural sense of humor, and his delivery of the lecture is awesome! Easy explanations, good examples. I really like attending this class even if it is not mandatory.
This class is enough of a challenge so that I'm not bored, but is easy enough to where it doesn't cause too much extra stress in my life. Validashti is an awesome professor and I'm so happy I am taking MATH415 in his class and not in a different professor's class.
Great class! Great professor who is funny and very nice!!I enjoyed his class!!
Professor Validashti is the best math professor I have had thus far in my engineering workload. He is funny and easy to understand, and he genuinely cares about his students. Very good teacher, highly recommend him!
Professor Validashti is great! His main focus is on the HW, which is great. Also, he's always willing to help. Lastly, you will do well on the exam if you study his review problems.
Funny guy, very responsive to feedback from students.
Interesting professor. Teaches well.
I can't figure out where is he getting all these energy from. He's very smart, teaches well, and very nice. If you do the homework and the exam reviews you should be fine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Enjoyed this class thoroughly. Lecture is not entirely necessary, but in the end will save you time (versus learning through the text). Professor Validashti does his best to make his students happy, and is extremely helpful.
The best Math professor I ever had in U of I. He makes boring stuff really interesting. He is extremely energetic and helpful! I recommended all of my friends to take his class!
Professor is very clear and explains the material well. If you go to class you will definitely get an A.
Professor Validashti is awesome! He explains everything very clearly and really knows what he's talking about. Highly recommended. Not to mention the fact that he gets a chili pepper ;) I only wish I knew what nationality he was so I could propose to him!
The must have professor for Linear Algebra. The homework is fairly easy and the exams are very fair.
Awesome Teacher, really helpful, and really funny
Funny, understanding, nice guy. Doesn't cover the material as well as other professors, but using the textbook helps a lot.
Fantastic professor, explains everything well and does plenty of examples. Makes jokes throughout the lecture without being corny. Highly recommended.
The ideal math professor for this class. Sometimes lecture material requires supplemental reading from the textbook, but all in all, he teaches the class very reasonably. Homework is comprehensive without being too difficult, and the exams test the material covered and nothing more. Nice guy, actually has a good sense of humor, and helps when asked
well, he is a good prof. and explains everything very clear. The exams are easy also.
LOVE HIM! He's an awesome teacher and, though I've missed a few lectures, he's very clear and good about reviewing and helping students. One of the greatest and best professors I've had in a long time. Keep it up!
Probably one of the nicest professors I've ever had. There is more emphasis on understanding the basic concepts, and he is very willing to help students who need it. Exams are fair - be sure to utilize the study guide and you'll be golden.
Helpful teacher. Good lectures
Funny and excellent teacher. Makes me enjoy being in class. Covers all of the material well in class. You don't even have to read the textbook. Exams are very fair and practice exams are a great guide to what will be on the exam. Not too much homework is assigned.
Great professor. Teaches the material well. Homework and tests are not bad. Good class.
It's truly a pleasure to go to class. He's friendly, approachable and a great professor who is sincerely interested in the success of his students. Lecture is extremely good because the examples he goes over help to better understand the concepts. They make things easier to visualize. He's definitely one of the best math professors I've ever had.
This teacher is extremely helpful and passionate about teaching. He is fair with the material he tests you on and is not trying to trick you. By far the best teacher I have had so far at U of I.
Good professor, gives good examples that relate to homework. Exams are a good reflection of lecture material and calculators are allowed. Grading is very fair.
The professor teaches very well. His class is easy to understand and the homework is not that hard. If you understand the homework and review problems, you will definitely get a good score.
One of the best professors I've met. He is very helpful and passionate. I really want to take another course from him.
Lots of charisma; fun to listen to.
Great Professor. Very helpful and teaches exactly what is on the test. examples are just like the ones in the homework. Overall one of the best professors I have had.
Validashti is a very fun professor good at keeping me engaged in the lecture material. I guess sometimes it's just a little difficult to decipher what the problems presented actually want you to do. It's not hard to get an A in this class, but since there's no minus/plus in his grading, I feel like I worry about this class a lot more than I should
Very easy and helpful professor. Explains concepts really well. If you attend the lectures and do the practice problems, its an easy A.
He makes it easy to get an A. HW isn't bad, plenty of chances for extra credit, the tests are short and mostly multiple choice.
Validashti is a great teacher. The homework isn't too lengthy and the class is easy as long as you come to class and do the homework. Reviews before tests are very helpful.
This professor makes lectures very enjoyable. He is clear and to the point and provides useful examples. Tests are very fair and if you pay attention in class you should do well!
great professor.doesnt make life too hard.at the same time teaches the material well.
Mr. Validashti is the kind of teacher who makes Math easy and understandable. His grading is very fair and his teaching style very clear. He has a good sense of humor which keeps you awake and interested in the lecture. Also, I loved the idea that hw was 40% of the grade and final exam was not cumulative. Highly recommend him!
This professor is very nice. He is interesting in class and sometimes talks jokes. He explains concepts and math problems clearly. Not like some other boring math professors who always make math boring and hard, this professor actually stimulate your interest for math. Super friendly and awesome professor that I ever had!
Really good professor, helps out students in need. Overall class is easy if you do the HWs and Review questions.
He explains topics very well
He's a really good and easy-going professor. Makes linear algebra easy and cohesive. Less stress on exams and more on learning! Must take class under him!!!
good guy.
this professor is awesome!
He is a great professor and makes the class interesting. He adds in random comments to keep the class on their feet. It is a decently easy class and i definitely recommend it.
Very helpful professor. His lectures are really easy to follow. Homework is a very large part of the grade compared to exams. Exams are not long and easy.
He is a very good professor. His concepts are clear and exams are fairly simple.
Excellent professor! Very good at explaining and very fair grading policy.
Great professor! class is reasonably paced. Final is only 15% of the grade, takes a lot of stress out of finals week.
Great teacher. Short homework every week. Fair exams.
He is very helpful and good in teaching. Besides, he is also a funny lecturer and you wouldnt have much pressure studying in his class.
Lovable professor. Really enjoyed his class.
His way of teaching is new and geniunely interesting. He also makes decent jokes during lecture. He really wants you to learn his material, and will definitely help you along the way.
Very good teacher! You'll learn everything you need in lecture, and the exams are very fair. A+++++
Really good professor, very clear and thorough in his teachings. Class is easy as long as you do HW's and Review questions.
Great professor! Very funny and makes lectures fun. Gives very fair exams.
Good lecturer. Very easy going and funny which keeps you focused in lecture. Exams are very fair, no secrets or ridiculous problems. Overall very good.
makes the class easy but still helpful enough to help students grasp basic concepts well
The professor is really funny and easy going and makes it very interesting to go to class. The home work is very fair and is a great preparation for the exam. The exams are fair and if you study well you should do great. Overall, I learned a lot from this class.
This was his first time teaching Diff Eq and he was pretty much learning it right along with us. And he was the absolute BEST professor I have had at U of I. Every lecture was crystal clear, tests were fair, the book was useful, and he's just a hilarious charismatic guy. It doesn't matter what he teaches, you'll do well and look forward to class.
Do not take 416 with him. He was terrible. I've had a lot of good professors in the math department and he was not one of them.
Awesome professor! Funny and makes the class fair.
He is humorous!
Funny, keeps lectures interesting, class isn't too hard and tests are a good assessment of what's been covered
He is cool
Seems like a pretty cool guy. Definitely knows what he's talking about, but goes a little fast paced sometimes. Not everyone came from a great high school where everything calculus was covered, and he assumes we know some things that some (me at least) don't, but otherwise a good guy and professor.
Solid calc 1 professor. He covers most of the stuff that will be on the exams, and they arent too bad if you study.
He is an excellent professor who teaches the concepts with utmost clarity. He's quite funny and interactive with the class, making the lectures really interesting. The candy is also a good motivation to answer questions first. :)
Absolutely amazing professor!
Absolutely great professor! Great humor.
He's funny and his lectures helps you understand the material very quickly! He gives out candy!!
Very good guy. Funny too.
I love this class! Thank you Javid!
Tries his best to keep class interesting and keep students happy
He is a fantastic teacher that has a passion for the subject.
Humorous teacher, offers treats if students performed well during class. Tells jokes sometimes, not always funny, but shows his passion.
He is a funny teacher, tells jokes, and gives out candy..watch out his aim isn't perfect...He is a good teacher with tons of examples. His tests are difficult purely because each question is worth so many points, but they are very fair, and he is incredibly just about averages and adding points. Overall a passionate and interesting teacher.
Javid is the bomb; he gives out Kit Kats, and teaches what ya need to know!
Let's put it this way: if Javid spent a single day in DC teaching our "government" calc, our economy would be saved and the government would still be running.
Interesting cool guy. Class moves fast - it is what it is. Don't slack off and you'll be fine
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Best Maths professor.
F@#k yea, im starting to like calc thanks to this guy! Thats gotta mean something! and his jokes in class is just the icing on the cake.
Javid's Calculus 1 class is very straightforward and clear. In each lecture he presents a multitude of examples that challenge our thinking. I'm glad that I took this class instead of a higher math class because I know that his teachings will create a good foundation for future math classes.
Javid has the best jokes and keeps the class interested. He also gives out candy. Candy is great.
He is a great teacher. He is very helpful, when explaining problems he is very clear and goes through all of the steps. He is super easy going and always wants to help. I am never afraid to ask questions in class! he is great!!!
Great great math teacher!
He's hilarious and kind of awesomely obsessed with his rating on this site! Besides being super cool, his class is not to difficult as long as you come to class and he's very good at explaining difficult topics!
He is not only humorous but also instructive. One of the best teachers!
Validashti is fantastic, and clearly superior to all other algebraists. No matter how much other researchers may copy his techniques!
Funny and informative, easy class to pass but you can learn a lot if you apply yourself.
funny guy
As someone from the "YOLO" generation, I've often struggled to find reasons to persevere through the eternal struggle of a middle-upper class suburban life. Then, I met the talented and handsome professor,Javid Validashti. Now I know that my life's purpose is to retake this class for all of eternity, regardless of my grade. I know it's worth it.
He Earns Respect Everyday And Does Smart Teachings. He Eases Strange Everythings. (read the first letter of each word):) I give him two thumbs up.
He is one of the best professors in U of I. He makes a lot of funny jokes. He is also very kind regarding grades and his exams are very easy. I definitely recommend taking a class with him.
J is wonderful! He explains every concept so well, examples included.
Javid is a great dude. Really loves his students and they love him too!
Javid is one of the best professors i have this semester. He teaches a difficult class very well and makes it fun with his sense of humor.
Overall good professor. Really rushed at times but I would take a class from him again. He's funny and keeps class interesting. The only thing is that the homework, lectures, and discussion material is all different at one time.. really confusing. But the tests aren't awful.
perfect.
Great teacher that keeps the class entertaining with his jokes. Javid does a really good job explaining the concepts gone over in class by providing many examples. He makes a seemingly difficult topic easy to understand and enjoyable.
One of the best calculus teachers at U of I. You definitely should take his class! Easy to understand and really funny.
He is fantastic. No other teacher here engages his students and keeps them focused like he does. Humorous. Intelligent. Energetic. Cannot ask for more from a professor.
Calculus does not come easily to me, but Javid makes coming to lecture enjoyable! The material is difficult and goes fast if you don't have much experience, but that means you need to work harder. He's extremely helpful if you go talk to him after class, and a really nice and funny guy.
Javid is a freaking champion.
I'd take his derivative.
VERY GOOD!
Great teacher, explains concepts really well and the tests are fair.
Great teacher. Really funny in class.
Great teacher! Great explanations and examples used in class to help understand material.
Javid is a great professor! He always makes lecture interesting with jokes and tossing candies at people. Would highly recommend him if you can fit his times in your schedule!
Really nice professor. Nice jokes, and the syllabus is nicely followed.
He's really helpful and organized in his explanation. Although I didn't take calculus in high school, I feel like his teaching is really easy to comprehend. The only con is that because he's so good looking, it's hard for me to focus in class.
This guy is AWESOME!!! He is always in a good mood, and he is always telling funny jokes! He explains the material in a way that sets you up for success. Do the hw, take the prac exams, attend his lectures, and you'll do well!
Total Badass. Love the guy
Great class, great teacher. Also, when I missed my webassign homework, I explained the reason to him and he reopened that homework for me. He is very humorous and good-looking as well.
Great professor! Always energetic and clear with his lecture.
Great personality which is an awesome combination with the great lectures.
best calc teacher ever!! make sure you take him if you can!! and also try to attend all lectures cause there might be surprises
Great professor. Very funny and a cool personality. Had a slight accent, but it was never difficult to understand him.
Awesome as person and a human being. He takes time to explain concepts personally if required, so long as you approach him. He even tried telling all of us a joke during a midterm.
Really helpful and likes the work on the examples. Actually really funny too. Hope I can get him for my MATH231 too.
He is handsome and awesome. We all love him.
Amazing Math Professor. Sets easy exams. Have to take him if you're a freshman.
awesome
He is a great professor. He gives reviews for the test and they are a big help.
He's awesome!! Can't say enough good things about him!
Professor J is extremely charming and charismatic, he makes coming to lecture enjoyable and has no problem clarifying when asked. His exams are extremely fair, and not much is required from you in terms of homework. As a freshman, it's safe to say he is my favorite professor, and having him is worth the 8 am discussion.
He's my favorite professor/teacher to date. He enjoys what he does and is always positive during lecture. His exams are very fair and he prepares you with challenging work prior to the exams. If you put the effort into fully understanding the homework, the exams will be a breeze.
Prepares you very well for the exams and is understanding of what students struggle with.
Great teacher.
Great professor, I like him
Professor Validashti has a positive attitude during lectures. He is understanding and friendly towards students. The class itself was also great overall and his explanation of calculus II was clear.
What an awesome professor! I took Javid for Calc I, and I modified my entire schedule to get into his section for Calc II. He gives crystal-clear explanations, and I love how he takes the time to derive almost every formula we use, but in an understandable manner. He also loves to tell jokes and throw candy to students! We'll miss you at UIUC!
The man can teach. If you work hard, you will do great. Plain and simple. Prof J. is funny and he definitely prepares you for the exams with the hw and the discussion material. Overall, if you have a chance to have him as a teacher, do it.
Had him for Calc I and I made sure I got into his calc 2 class. If you get a chance take calc with him. He knows what hes talking about and makes sure we understand it. You'll be missed!
The best professor ever. I took calc 1 and 2 with him because he is awesome and funny. I enjoy attending classes + I understand very well from him.
I took Calc II with Javid! He prepares students for every exam! He knows how to teach, and you won't be bored in class because he cracks joke so often! If you go to every lecture and discussion like I did and study the practice exams, you won't get a bad grade!!
I really enjoyed this class. I feel like I learned a lot from it. There was a good balance that made the class both fun and challenging at the same time.
I started the semester extremely afraid of my calculus class. But it turned out to be the best class I've taken thus far in college and I would say that it was not due to the material but to Javid's nature as a teacher. Starting this summer I'm taking the necessary classes to obtain a math minor, largely due to his class.
One of the best professors I've had at university so far. His explanations of mathematical concepts were easy to understand and to the point. However, the course could've, and should've, been a bit more challenging. The professor only covered the bare minimum necessary to pass the class and gave tests that were outrageously easy to inflate grades.
handsome and nice
His accent is too good. It is a difficult course but he makes it seem easy.
He is the nicest guy and makes lectures fun, interesting, and helpful. Super friendly when it comes to asking questions or wanting extra help. I emailed him several times about homework questions and he thanked me for asking him!!
Prof J's awesome. He does his job and he does it so well that I lack the words to describe it. Simply the best. His exams are very fair and straightforward.
He's a great professor and I love his teaching methods. He remembers his students and is very easy to talk with. His exams are just like his practice exams. I went to the lectures so studying was very minimal for me. I took Math 231 with him since he is the best.
Sexiest professor on Campus. the class was fun too. Not too bad, be sure to take! passes out candy for each right answer in lecture.
Pretty awesome
Hilarious jokes in class
Professor Validashti is funny, intelligent, and definitely one of my favorite professors so far. His exams are fair, and there isn't much homework.
He is seriously the nicest, funniest guy! Treats students like his friends, but is also very willing to help! I find his tests very straight forward and easy if you understand the material. No curve balls like other professors do on their tests. Currently planning my whole next semester schedule around having him for Calc 2. Papa V all the way
Javid Validashti, what a man. What a man.
He's really a great professor who is able to connect with students. He has made my first semester much less harder than it needed to be because his tests and quizzes were straight forward and not overly difficult like other professors teaching the same class. If you have taken AP calculus, this class shouldn't be very difficult at all.
Javid really lets you know that he's a normal human being by making his class as enjoyable as possible. His practice tests are pretty true to the exams and as long as you take the homework seriously and try to pay attention in lecture, you won't have a problem. Easily my favorite professor this semester.
He is a great professor! Throws candy for right answers and just overall great
Great professor would recomend
I enjoy going to his lectures.
Great professor to have when dealing with the transition between high school and college.
Great Professor, gives candy for correct answer and makes sure he gets in a few jokes here and there each class
Overall, I thought the class was great. Some of the concepts covered in this course were the ones that I had struggled with before, but the way in which the material were presented made it clear and engaging, and I feel very comfortable with the concepts now and feel that I have a more encompassing understanding of them.
Great
This guy was the man. He was pretty funny and his class was super easy. I never went and got a 96 on the final. Would've gotten an A for sure but I never went
Validashti is the man. He's the funniest professor I've had and his jokes are on point. However, I'm not a great math student and I felt calc was my hardest freshman course. He teaches at a really fast pace, and be prepared to learn.
The biggest advantage to Validashti's class is his tests. Unlike the horror stories I hear from classmates about their tests, the tests are very fair and straightforward. Take notes at lectures and do the practice tests that he sends you and you should get at least a B. People with AP credit will still find this course as a nice refresher.
By far my favorite professor yet. I really hate to see him leave UIUC because I was hoping to sign up for his calc II class again. Everything in the class was pretty much perfect and made calculus very enjoyable.
Javid hands out treats for correct answers in class, it kept students like me engaged in the lecture. He makes funny jokes and narrate anecdotes, they kept the mood of the classroom lively and entertaining. Lectures were very thorough given the fact that there were so much material to cover in a short amount of time.
great teacher
This professor has a great teaching style. The lectures are engaging and the textbook is helpful. Using unstuck study alongside the course materials really helped me stay on top of the content. Would definitely recommend this class.
