Avila is excellent. He has great chemistry with his students. I love his class. He's witty and irreverent, but he values what he does and he does a wonderful job. I would definitely take another course with him.

Prof. Avila is a wonderful professor. I was so glad to have him for english 1 that I took him again for english 2. I love the way that he teaches and the way he views things. Plus he is easy on the eyes.

I really enjoyed his class, he made his lecture interesting with his reading selections. I would take the class over in a heartbeat. Very brilliant man.

This was the most fun I've had in a class. Dr. Avila's poetry selections ranged from ****inson to Bukowski. We even studied songs by Morrissey and poems in translation by J.L. Borges. It was a great experience. Dr. Avila is knowledgeable but down-to-earth. He is so funny, sometimes you forget you're in a classroom. By far the best prof I ever had.

this is one of the best professors i've ever had. For english 2 we talked alot, and the conversations were very enjoyable. Class is actually fun. Tests arent really hard and you have alot of stupid grades you can get to pick your grade up. YOU WILL LOVE THIS PROF.

Dr. Avila is not a teacher for everyone, and those who drop did so for good reasons. He is a brilliant man and having him as a teacher is something I am extremely lucky for. His incite is very educated and ability to involve the class to a point they enjoy is extraordinary. Avila teaches writing the way it should be taught, and I hope he continues.

I did online courses. You have to read short articles compare the two essays to show your point of view. There were several essays, but they were only difficult because it's harder for me to be taught things through email..im more hands on. He was very helpful!!! I really enjoyed this english class.

his assignments are pretty easy and he's a reasonable grader. if you need help, he will answer any questions you have. plus, he's really funny. a great prof, i'm looking forward to taking more of his classes!

Avila is the man! Best prof out there, by far. He is unorthodox in his style of teaching, but my God, we learn, and not just about English and lit, but about life. I love his class!

He is the BEST! There was not one class that I was not laughing during. This class unfortunately does not transfer for me because it was Computer Assisted, though we did not use the computers one day, but the tuition was worth the laughs!

He teaches everything you need to know about English, from basic grammar to poetry, and life. He is hilarious, has a great character, and is very talented in his work. I recommend him to everyone. Three rules,be considerate, do the assignments, and attend class, it is not worth missing his once in a lifetime and special lectures!

Avila is a great professor and a great writer. To really succeed in this class (poetry writing) requires a lot of reading and a lot of writing. Most of that work is independent, and you have to want to do it. It's worth the effort, though, because if you show Avila that you are working hard he is very willing to help you and offer great feedback.

Online class: Avila was awesome, wanted to make sure you write about your opinions and what you felt strongly about. Great character in person, ready to meet with you if you need help. Online discussions are fun!

Professor Avila is incredible. If you don't take jokes well and/or find yourself offended easily, I wouldn't recommend him. If you're easy going and enjoy a few laughs at what may be somewhat controversial content from time to time, you'll adore him like I did. Assignments were easy, but he does call people out if they're late, texting, absent, etc

When I am in this man's class, I forget about all troubles....he is THAT witty. Also has a passionate/sensitive side. He keeps it simple yet the quality of learning does not suffer. Less is more with this guy. Clever man; so glad I took his class!!!! Warning: he gets lewd and crude so those with weak stomachs need not sign up.

Such a chill guy. So funny. Talks more about his personal life and random stuff than the actual subject. Only gave a few short assignments, really easy grader. I turned in most of my assignments late and didn't even do my final paper and he still gave me an A on everything. Awesome guy. If you want an easy, chill class, take this one. Overall, 8/10

HIGHLY recommend this professor! He is brilliant, albeit sometimes crude. His classes are fun, entertaining, creative, but you also learn a LOT. Hands down, best professor at NCC!

Took this class online and found it to be stress free. There is a lot of writing but the topics are interesting. The schedule is posted for the entire semester and the assignments are clearly explained. You won't interact at all with him online unless you email him but if you do all of your work you will pass with an A no problem.

He is one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever had the opportunity to be taught by and he has such a fun/happy/interesting way to communicate to his students it allows you to have a desire to actually have his class

Dr. Avila is an amazing teacher. All of the assignments are available at the beginning with the dates due. He doesn't give feedback until the end but there is a method to his madness. His class is very thought provoking for a basic English class. Highly recommend!

This man changed my life in ways he'll never know. If you actually participate by reading your writings in the front of class that is how you learn through him. Some people don't participate at all and are sour about never learning anything WELL DUH! Oh, and don't take if you are easily offended. This class is the highlight of my week, seriously.

Good professor that will make you a better writer, but be careful if you're religious. He is an atheist and has a tendency to bash Christianity. If you can handle it, i'd recommend him.

Prof. Avila has been the highlight of my semester. Although sometimes we get into controversial topics, he means well and is just having fun. He makes you look forward to going to class. Treat his students as equals and is just a great guy. Highly recommended. If I needed to take another English class I would take it with him definately.

Took him for English 2 and was pretty good overall. Assignments were relatively easy as long as you put time into them. A lot of poetry was included in the readings, which I dislike, but it's not a poetry class so you'll get by. Lectures were a breeze; they were a giant conversation.

I had Avila for English 2. He is a pretty chill dude. His lectures are interesting. Although he has a very negative outlook on life. He can be offensive at times, but that is his humor. No Textbook, he hands out a packet of poems that you will use every day. Only one test and a final. Short writing assignments. He knows how many classes you miss.

Absolutely the best teacher in Northampton Community College. He is hilarious, realistic, & easy to talk to. He makes poems interesting & puts them in perspective. If you want to pass, you must come to class to know the criteria & write his easy papers that are all based on your opinion. He is a fantastic prof.

He is really funny teacher makes the class fun and engaging. You talk about interesting poems and short stories. If you have opportunity to take him then you should jump on. He can say things that some would considered offensive. He provides you with the book. Also there is 1 midterm and final paper as your only assignments.

The actual class was fine - very easy, only 3 papers (or 1 test + 2 papers if you choose). This professor is very opinionated & I did not agree with many of his opinions, so I didn't like him that much personally. I also didn't find his jokes to be funny. Participation grade matters - I didn't say much because I didn't like him and got points off.

Great prof. His classroom setting is relaxed and he doesn't take everything seriously. He jokes a lot, so don't take his class if you're conservative. Refrain from texting in his class, and don't skip too often. He provides the reading material, and there is only 1 test. There were 2 papers given at the end of the semester. Easy A, overall.

Had Mr. Avila to take for an online english class. Many circumstances had come up and it became difficult to do my work for family reasons, and he was more than reasonable to let me get my work in. I first looked before signing up for his class on here, and he is BEYOND fantastic. Definitely would recommend.

I had heard nothing but positive things about prof. avila, so I took my first online class just to be his student and it was certainly worth it. He is such a great professor and very understanding. Any problem I had he helped me work through it. I would've never passed without his help. I will be taking him again and in person.

Dr. Avila was fantastic! Took him for Modern Poetry and I do not regret it one bit! We read various poems, discussed them as a class, and applied many of them to our own individual lives. A very inspiring, funny, genuine, professor and always willing to listen to what you have to say. Easily one of my favorites at Northampton Community College!

Avila is an amazing professor, the only way you fail is by not showing up but don't take is kindness for granted. He's comedic and intellectual and is always willing to help. I've taken him twice already prior to this and have him scheduled for the next semester. By far one of NCC's best professors.

Prof is the best. However, he does like to be treated with respect, so don't come to class and be on your phone or not paying attention. He has a way of tying the literature to everyday life. Also, he has taught me a lot, not only through poetry, but also through his life speeches.

The best professor here at NCC! He knows his stuff and tries his best to inspire his students while also teaching them about the skills they'll need to survive in the real world. The only way you can fail is if you don't even try to show up.

Only halfway through the semester and Dr. Avila managed to make me a better poet. He's funny, tries his best to help students succeed, and always has something good to say even if you didn't follow instructions. Make sure to read the text, and avoid using your devices in class.

Professor Avila is wonderful. I really enjoyed English 101. There was a lot a reading along with the writing of the essays and papers for the class. His topics were educational, interesting and quick to read. I will definitely take English II with Professor Avila. I highly recommend him .

Hes an incredible professor. I had him for online English 101, and the class was easy to complete while challenging your skills. I always had a good time writing papers and participating in discussions. 11/10. Easy A if you do what is asked.

If you participate and read the poems you write he gives great feedback! He has funny stories and jokes that make you think about life sometimes. You don't have to participate, but participation is key to getting the most out of this class. I was a good poetry writer going into this class, yet he challenged that. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Professors was pretty much fun when he is giving lectures to his students. he really cares about his students. The participation is important pretty much for every student in that class. I learned many kind of poetry writing from his class.

Professor Avila is an amazing professor there is only four papers. which for an English class in nothing. there is a weekly writing assignment but it's only like 100 words. if you do your best and answer all the prompts on the papers you will get 100. Do your best and you will succeed in this class. I would recommend this class to anyone.

He is very funny and creative and gives good feedback on your work, and the assignments are actually fun and help with writing skills. I only wish he offered more classes so I could have him more, and I wish there were more writing assignments in the semester. He can get a tad off topic so expect to not always talk about the assignments.

Professor Avila was the funniest professor I've ever had and always had a story to tell that often went off topic. However the class was graded by very few assignments but if you follow the thorough instructions provided you'll easily succeed. I just wish there were more assignments.

He does not have any required textbooks, instead he prints out any reading into a packet. His classes are really just him talking for an hour and a half filled with jokes, puns, and the occasional off topic rant. His class is by no means hard. If you show up for class every day and write what he says to write, it's really easy and enjoyable.

Professor Avila was an amazing educator and really took his time to show us that life is not always that serious. In class we would read a poem or story that he provided and then we would talk about it and he would make jokes. I would definitely take his class again.
