Jawad Ali is really cool. I enjoyed his Writing 1 class that I took him for Writing 2. He has open discussion in class and will crack jokes. Good teacher, good guy.
He is the Best Writing teacher, EVER. Good Job Jawad Ali
This guy is the best. I loved his class and learned so much. I can't wait to take another one of his classes.
He's awesome. Only assigns a fes short essays. Only prof who doesn't make you do a long term paper.
Easily distracted by pretty girls.
there aint anything wrong to be distracted by pretty girls. he teaches well = funny, allows discussions, doesnt stick to plan, shows interesting films.
he's pretty cool. few essays, not too hard
hum 1 in the summer was easy. the class was mostly discussions and we did not read much. The syllabus looked scary but we read maybe 20%. Participation counts. There was some extra credit. Easy A.
I enjoyed the lecture discussions with this teacher. He made it easy for students to participate in the discussions, but knowing me being a chatterbox, made it even more enjoyable. I recommend taking this teacher for WRITING 2, no one else!!!!!
F***ING HOT!
Mr. Ali is really cool! He really takes time to help all of his students. Even the ones that do not know how to write well. Good guy!
The best professor by far at IVC.
Oh My God! He's so hot. The class is easy. He is not too picky about the homeworks. Just show up and show him that you care about hummanities, that would be enough to get an A. He is CUTE! I had the biggest crush on him. He's nice, take it with him. no homework. just 2 take home exams and final was take-home as well. Pretty cool class. I loved it.
Ok, he's hot, but so what! He's a horrible teacher. Gives you the impression that class is easy, but that's deceiving. I got a B in his class, even though I tried really hard! That ruined my 4.0 GPA. He often digresses in his lectures, so you have no idea what his point is or if a point is being made at all! Heed my advice and do not take him!
He is a very good teacher , very nice personality .I like his character! Not distracted with pretty girls!
I’m taking his class right now during summer session! He is a great teacher! I’m learning a lot thus far. And he is so hot…that is the only bad part. It takes everything for me not to go and jump on him during class! HAHA! J/K but really he is a great teacher and you will learn a lot. O yes...and there is A LOT OF READING!!!!! But it’s cool!
I was very disappointed. His class was all about Christianity/Islam and nothing about the Renaissance era. He teaches about how to think and analyze, not about the material. Assigned 5 books we didn't use! Hard to tell what he wants on the essay exams. You can't do well by studying the material- must be an analytical writer.
lots of reading and all essays, not at all hot, very boring class you talk about the same story for hours
He is one of the funnest teachers in IVC. he is considerate of everyone, and takes the time to get to know each of his students one by one. Everyone gets a second, or third, or fourth chance to turn in their paper late and still get an A.
the teacher is a****and not afraid to show it. overall the class is fairly easy, even without doing the reading. Lots of critical thinking.
VERY boring!!! He urges you to see him if you are having problems... don't tell him your sob stories he doesn't care! All reading and essays DO NOT take if you can't write. More like a literature class.
Summer course is too short for all that you need to read and write. alot of critical thinking, critical writing involved. Some really great stories though. Consider setting alot of reading and writing time aside if you plan on taking this course.
Jawad was by far one of the best professors I've ever had. He was passionate about the material, engaging, a truly fabulous teacher and extremly helpful.
Jawad who!! he doesn't know what the fu#@ he is talking about...just bull sh#@ for 4 hours in a row and makes u think about just shouting at him to shut the f#@! up for 1 min!! Do not take HUM, or WR with him, take those courses at saddleback...and by the way, who the fu#@ says he is hot!!
Great teacher. fun class. he is really relaxed and doesn't have a problem giving all A's virtually no homework and loves to talk about controversial topics.
He is not a very good WR 1 teacher our class went from 30 students to 10!!! He is a new teacher and is not very clear. He is a much better WR 201 teacher
Super easy class. He might seem unclear at first about how to write your essay but dont worry because he pretty much gives everyone A's as long as you turn in a decent essay. He is very lenient on deadlines, and he postponed the deadlines a lot too if the students say they need more time. He is easy going and funny. I would reccommend him.
Not a bad professor, just not for Writing 1! Other than WR 1, it's ok to take him...(I guess) WR 1 is more focus on skills, not critical thinking... Besides, he needs to work more on clarity, otherwise it's hard to follow his standards. Aside for an unskilled instructor, has a great personality. Think before you take him, or drop before too late!!
Great guy, knows what he's talking about, probably not the best teacher though. But he is passionate about the subject and if you are really interested in the subject, then definitely take his class.
ehh he is an easy teacher but a bit boring at times just get a lot of coffe and you'll be fine.
i love this class, he's very intelligent i love listening 2him talk he's very calming, funny, questions authority, agressive debator(but its so enlightening)watch movies, no tests,3-4 papers. INTERESTING topics-if u cant hang w/the realistic problems of the world get lost!opens ur eyes and tries 2push out opinions. he can tell when u try.fairly ez
I didn't like him at all. His personality sucks, and the class was SO SO SO boring. Very unorganized. He grades hard. Never expect to get an A. He just scribles essay topics on the board, and You have to copy them down. He's NOT helpful, NOT clear. He's a pre-law professor, and I don't know why he's teaching writing.

The best professor l'have ever had.He has really interesting material an sinsightfol thing to say.
grate teacher
He has special interest in the dark side of human being.
More of a critical thinking class than a writing class. He didn't do much when I told him that someone had plagiarized parts of my own paper (even though it was just the first draft). When many people didn't finish the paper, he gave us more time. Some class discussion. Minimal book use. Excessive leniency in some aspects, but decent guy. UCLA
Worst Writing 201 instructor ever. Hard grader, ignorant. Always plays with his iPhone while teaching. He's cool as a person but not as an instructor. Don't ask him for help. He only bashes you and fails to give any real help.
Worst teacher ever, he makes you feel stupid because he is a "law" teacher... honestly he has no idea what he is doing..
very hard. you gatta ask a lot of questions and be involved and you should be fine but very challenged. when you speak up in class be ready to be bashed, he will crush you, so prepare your thoughts well before talking to him
I would not recommend this class to most people, especially if you are not an English Major. He grades harshly and only 1 person got an A in our class. About half dropped out. He doesn't seem to like IVC students because he also teaches at UCLA. Make sure you already have strong writing skills because you learn little in the class. He's unprepared.
He's a difficult professor. Doesn't take any nonsense when it comes to essay writing, he knows what he wants from students and thats what he expects. He has good writing tips. But he has a taste for dark things so if you take the class, thats what you'll be having to read and write about, controversial and dark stuff.
He is the most intelligent, professional, helpful, and gorgeous professors I have ever laid eyes upon! He is always willing to help. You can't stump him either, as he knows everything. He has the most captivating teaching style; incomparable to anyone. However, he is not single, nor is he interested in flirtatious behavior, so don't bother.
I wanted to add that he chooses incredible novels and essays to read. You will never become bored. He also elicits such excitement in his students. He will make you think and you will leave his class a changed person. (For the better)
He is intelligent and good looking. It?s fun to listen to his class, since he is also rhetoric and he challenges your belief. But he is not a devoted instructor. He grades our paper without any comment. He should be an artist instead of a teacher, because his mind seems to be somewhere else.
I had Jawad Ali for Writing 301 in the summer. You could tell he couldn't give a crap about the class just by his attitude. He's only helpful if you get his attention. He's a perfectionist, which I like. His assignments are really easy if you understand his directions. No Homework. Just essays. His sarcasism is funny aswell.
I had this professor for writing. There is no hw only essays. He expects your essays to be perfect he critizes everything and never gives any good attitude. Since the class started all he told me was that i was going to fail!!!! I recommend you not to take this class with this professor not unless you are a perfectionist yourself.
He should be teaching psychology not Writing 1. He makes you feel dumb when you ask him a question, and he's pretty cynical in my opinion. So far, I have not learned one thing about writing. It feels like he doesn't really care about the class, like he's doing us a favor by showing up. He asks you to give your opinion, but ends up bashing you.
There's no homework, just four essays. He's a really hard grader, there is always something wrong with your essay. He will talk to you one on one to help you with your rough draft. You don't need to read the books except for maybe the essay book. He likes to poke fun at conservatives and Christians, but otherwise good teacher.
He likes to make fun of random people in class, not to mention anyone who has different opinions than him. He's basically an arrogant, conceited jerk who criticizes your writing but doesn't do anything to help you improve it. I would NOT recommend this class to any students who are serious about learning how to write.
He only assigned us four papers but the class is anything but easy. The papers actually require hours of research and work, you have a rather short time to them, and he grades pretty hard. But he makes you think and really does actually teach you how to write a good essay. You should only take him if you're prepared to put in some real effort.
Don't listen to the people who believe that he is "bashing" you for stating your opinion. He simply causes you to think more critically and deeply on the subject at hand. He is sarcastically hilarious. I recommend if you have an opinion and if you have any sort of *intelligence*. ND U DUN SPEEK LYKE DIS!@#
VERY good professor. Don't listen to anyone who says he talks down to students, they're merely angry that he makes them actually think about something themselves. If you enjoy thoughtful discussions, critical thought, and aren't going to be offended by someone posing a different viewpoint to make you think seriously about an issue, take his class!
this professor is the worst. He doesnt care about his students honestly dont know why he is teaching if you call it teaching. He is really hard not because of the work because every class should be work but because he DOES NOT help. If you want to get a good grade and want to succeed I suggest you to not take this class with him!
Certainly cute in his own way,I don't know why he doesn't have a chili pepper yet. However, he seems to be an elitist. He is smart, interesting, and funny, but I have yet to see how he critiques my work.
He is a great professor! He really pushes students think critically and speak clearly. He definitely taught me how to write great essays. He is very helpful IF you put in the time and effort to go to his office hours and ask for help. He can come off as condescending but don't let it bother you. What you learn is worth the hard work.
I enjoyed taking the summer class. there wasnt much hw, a couple of 1 page reviews of documentaries watched in class; however, there are 4 essays. he's pretty funny. overall, my friends and I really enjoyed the class!
Amazing teacher. Very intelligent and passionate. Take this class if you truly are interested in becoming a better writer, put in the time and effort, and he will be very helpful.
He'll help you with your essays if you ask for help and want it. Fun class and discussions. Has a sense of humor that takes some getting used to, but overall interesting class. You'll do well on the essays if you put in the effort and he sees that you tried. Likes to challenge his students and you should make arguments to impress him.
Challenges you to think critically. Very smart guy. Easy on the eyes.
Hes unapproachable and thats where the biggest downfall is. I remember my writing class before this one, my professor was nice and caring yet stern. He was clear with what he wanted in his essays and Mr. Ali is not. He lectures on and on, repeats himself goes in circles and by the end of class I still wasnt sure what he wanted in our papers.
This class is in no way easy, but it's not supposed to be. He challenges his students to think critically and he grades very harshly. That being said, if he sees that you are putting in the effort and trying to improve he will boost up your grade. He is a very funny and intelligent man.
not an easy class, you'll have to write 4-5 essays(7-10 pages each). However the discussions in his class are amazing. You will talk about anything, which helped me stay interested. His class is all about thinking critically so be prepared.
Difficult class but he keeps you engaged and always uses real life examples, although they often lead into unrelated discussions. He doesn't teach any specific methods in terms of "how to write." You have to know what you're doing prior to the class...
Hard class. The professor himself is nice, but sarcastic. He makes the class a lot of fun with his discussions and keeps everyone interested. His only downfall is that he's not clear in what he wants from our research papers. You have to be prepared to think critically(which isn't a bad thing). I don't regret taking his class, though my GPA might.
Ineresting guy and very knowledgable. can come off as condesending but he is kidding, some people however cannot take the humor. Very interesting talks but he does not give very many A's. B's are easy however... overall not a bad class.
He was really easy.
Not an easy class. He goes off topic a majority of the class and doesn't make it clear what he wants on papers. He has an attitude so I would not recommend taking his class!
Really cool guy. In class discussions are barely related to English or the classwork but they' really interesting. He's very knowledgable and will challenge you if you're willing to do the work. Only grades in the book were 3 papers but he's willing to work with you on them. You're grade is basically up to you. Will give you an A if he likes you.
Professor Ali is simply a badass. He's a pretty laid back guy that cares extremely about his students. The class itself was pretty easy, just 5 or so essays, two of them being relatively short. He may come off as a bit condescending at first, but he's actually really chill. I would definitely recommend him!
Prof. Ali is amazing, I really enjoy his class. He is knowledgable, funny, and classy. I recommend him to anyone that want to be creative while becoming a better writer. xo
He is the best professor I have ever had. His classes are very enlightening, I wish I could take his class every semester. If you participate and work on your grammar you will do well in his class.
J. Ali is a unique professor that forces you to grow. He is very intimidating the first week or two of classes but once you get used to him, he really helps you adopt a more mature way of thinking and writing. If you are ignorant, immature, or irresponsible, he will call you out on it. Different style of teaching than any other professor I've seen.
In this class, you will cover hours of Ali's personal background and his personal opinions in regards to current world news. meanwhile you will buy books that you will not use...etc. Ali is not much of an english teacher. If this is your major or you have any desire to learn about English/Writing, you should try another instructor.
Professor Ali is nice but he is harsh grader when it comes to essays. Overall, I learned a lot from his class. "I don't regret taking his class, though my GPA might."
Ali is a great teacher, leatures are just so inresting not about english but about news and ways to think. His prompts are not always clear, doesnt give you feedback on essays, but if you ask for help he will tell you EXACTLY what to look up and even do your thesis to get you an A. DO NOT BUY BOOKS only ways of readin. No midterm, one easy final
Professor Ali is very inspirational. His class discussions help students think critically about the research topic. He really wants his students to write good research papers. If you have questions about your paper or topic, he helps guide you to get started. He is engaging and good-humored. He was one of my best professors. Definitely recommend.
Not good
What can I say, Professor Ali is particularly awesome. He's what college professors should be: helpful, engages his students in class topics, smart, gives you feedback on your work. He really cares that his students learn to think critically. He even offered to help edit a student with their transfer essay to UCLA. He's beautiful. Take him. A+
Cool professor. He engages the class in lecture and promotes class discussion. Doesn't write much feedback on papers, but if you approach him for help he is more than willing to provide feedback. Proper grammarsentence structure is a must. I don't recommend buying the books, as most of the essays you read can be found online.
Ali is a great professor, that is true. But he expects ALOT of his students. Writing 2 is not a major requirement but a IGETC requirement which means it should aid you in general education. Instead, he expects writing majors; assigning FIFTEEN TO TWENTY PAGE papers to be completed in a few weeks. Get ready to spend all of your time on his class.
Took his writing 2 class last semester. He was a really cool guy. He is very sarcastic and speaks his mind. Lectures are interesting; he loves to call on people SO PAY ATTENTION! If you show up to class and show interest he will automatically like you. Essays are long but he isn't a tough grader. Definitely recommend him!!!
He is awesome. probably the best professor that I ever had in the college. you do not want to miss any of his lectures because he engages his students in class topics and it is not boring at all. He really cares that his students learn to think critically.
He requires his students to use their critical thinking in their papers. In this class, you will also spend time working with grammar. You will only really need one book which he might assign a paper from. You can revise one paper for a better grade. The final is not long and if you prepared for it, you should do well.
Jawad is a interesting man. If you are open minded his class is right for you. He is very educated on current events and is fun to listen to and argue with. He assigns LONG papers. Make sure you use proper grammar! Pay attention. Show up. Participate. And you should do well.
He's a real cool guy who helps you outside of class if you need it. He is very comprehensive and actually cares for his students.
He is good person and is understanding if you have a situation for class. For his class he is a pretty easy grader but the classes themselves are kinda boring he's smart but does not know exactly how to teach. His essay outlines he just writes what to do on the board and is not exactly clear but if you ask he will help more. Overall easy class.
Hands down one of the best writing professors ever. He is really helpful when he grades rough drafts. He tells you what you did well on and what you need to work on. He talks about current events and is very open about what is going on in the world. It is a writing class so you will have to write a lot but he will help you. Amazing guy!!
Awesome professor I Recommend his course during Summer very easy and Fast ... Did not open his textbook no more than 5x throughout the Summer course ... My class was from 11:30 to 1:45 every day he would let us leave at 12:30 very easy... very straight forward and talks about real world issues. Very easy/ Light Grader/ great feedback/ easy A or B
I am sure he is smart, but too smart.. If you want to learn and develop your English skill a lot, you can take him. But if you take this class for credit or transfer only, I don'r recommend this class. He is not an easy teacher. He really cares about grammars, so if you are not confident at writing, do not take it. It will be tough.
He is a well educated man. I believe he also teaches at UCLA. He very in tuned with different events around the world and will often have you write about them. He is extremely picky on grammar and sentence structure but it will improve your writing skills. He makes you analyze your decision and back it up with real evidence. Really enjoyed it.
Professor Ali may come off as unapproachable but he's actually interesting, easy on the eyes just has an assertive way of teaching. He has clear grading criteria & gives you ENOUGH time to write. Very smart man and super chic. He talks about current events; Trump and Twitter. If you take him don't drop the first day of class! Give it time he cool.
This man is a genius. He's very approachable and doesnt patronize you like some of the other professors will. He knows his stuff and the more he talks, the more you realize he's very knowledgeable in almost every subject. Super easy class. You can learn a ton from this man if you pay attention and listen.
He is delightful! the class was a breeze, tons of writing but he is so supportive. amazing lectures about social problems. and I can literally listen to him talk all day!! an intelligent man with a spark of sarcasm. what more can you ask for?
One of the best instructors I've ever had. He's genuine & upfront, so he may seem intimidating on the first day but you'll see that he's a great guy. Not a super easy A but if you want to get better at writing, critical thinking, and communicating, take this class. He's really funny and addresses relevant world issues. Very understanding. Take him!
Prof. Ali is one of the best professor I have ever had, his lecture is amazing, he cares a lot. just the thing that I didn't like is the grammar correcting and the critical thinking tests.
If you take his class, you will be expected to write 4 essays that are 10+ pages with the final one requiring almost 20 pages. It is a lot of work but he is not a hard grader. He also has "editing quizzes" which are basically just grammar quizzes. It might seem like a lot of work but it really isn't. And if you put enough work, you will get an A
This professor is too strict about grammar and stuff that doesn't even matter unless you're aiming to be in some writing major. As someone who's never gotten lower than an A in an English/Writing class I found this class to be absurdly difficult. Participation also matters A LOT so if you arent talkative avoid this professor at all costs.
Professor Ali is by far my favorite professor at Irvine Valley College. He addresses many social issues in his lectures and is always interested to hear his students' thoughts and opinions about them. He is clear about what he expects in the essays and the workload is what you should expect for any college class. He isn't a tough grader either!
Oh man where do I start, he's a great professor he can seem intimidating at first but over time you will realize just how awesome, chill and genuine he is. There may be times where you might be offended but know that is just his process of making you more of an openminded individual. He will also work to help you in any way he can! Great Professor!
J Ali is a likable guy and is very straight forward. I took an 8 weeks course with him while all online and it was pretty organized compared to other courses I've taken in the past. There are a few main papers, a midterm, and a final. s. Grammarly premium for this class is a must, guarenteed A.
A high-quality professor! I genuinely enjoyed his class and was interested in the topics we'd discuss. He comes off intimidating, but he's a great instructor who is actually lenient. As long as you put in the work, you'll be just fine.
He was a bit intimidating and I didn't feel comfortable sharing my thoughts and ideas about the topics discussed. Tests were really tricky and hard.
Does not teach anything at all, one of the least organized professors I've ever seen. Never clear if there is reading material aside from discussion assignment. Didn't grade essays for over two months so 3 out of 4 essays turned in at the end of the course received no grade or feedback to learn from and use to adjust. Would NOT recommend.
Prof. Ali is a great professor! His class is not difficult at all! He's very lenient and not a tough grader. He addresses numerous social issues and tries to get his students to think critically. The essay topics were also really interesting! Overall, it's a great class! Highly recommend!
Professor Ali is truly one of the best writing professors at IVC. He encourages students to engage in critical thinking activities and discussions that hold relevance to us, such as current events. There are 4 papers that are 10 pages each, so be prepared to write, and make sure its a topic you're passionate about so you have something to write abt
Mr. Ali is a good choice for an English class. Lectures are boring but he gets the job done. There is a lot of reading you'll have to do but it's very, VERY, manageable. He gives an assignment due tomorrow, 11:59 pm after class but it's really easy. The main focus is his LONG essays. Make sure to plan them out to have space for your other classes.
In the short term, he's a great professor. You get one discussion after meeting and it's due the next day. Do them on time bc the discussion locks right after 11:59. But if you forget, email him if you forget he's chill. He can be a tough grader on essays, but you will be fine if you follow his suggestions. He also procrastinates a lot.
He is a good professor, the class was really just focused on argument-building and not too work-heavy compared to other WR2 teachers.
This professor was honestly really easy, I took him online and just make sure to actively participate in class and do the discussions and you will be just fine. He's not that hard of a grader, just make sure to follow his instructions carefully on the papers. He gave the entire class extensions on all the papers.
I got an easy A, but his WR2 course was still boring and work-heavy. If you are unfamiliar with his syllabus content, I would suggest you check out other teachers. Besides delaying final grades, his essay/quiz/test feedback is all cookie cutter. Please don't waste your book money. It is very much a grammar based, AP Lang type class so be warned!
not bad, ez A but MAN those papers T-T a lot of them, very grammar heavy like ap lang but again its just busy work, the A is not hard at all to secure. lectures are also LOOONG and get pretty dull but again if u need to complete for credit, just do it. not a bad option at all. also rmb to do MLA format! but good feedback and understanding/caring :D
His in-class activities are about discussing important issues. Take him for the easiest WR2 essay prompts (they are ultimately all just research essays). Very understanding, easy class for As.
in-class is just argumentative conversation (morality, ethics, etc), very rarely actual lessons about writing or grammar, does not give back any feedback from essays but somewhat easy grader
Classes were long and absurdly boring. Our original teacher got switched to him and I am so disappointed because of how horrible his classes were. He forces people to participate and I am very introverted so do not like to talk much. Assignments weren't hard but ultimately I ended up dropping for the sake of my sanity, I could not withstand this.
Prof Ali was honestly such a cool guy. He was so engaging he had a good sense of humor. He really tried to make the class as interesting as possible and he is a very easy grader. I really enjoyed his class, although he required a lot of sources for the essays.
