He is very enthusiastic and his lectures are really entertaining. It takes a little time to get used to his energy and funny comments he makes during class, but he's very fair and he makes calculus almost seem fun.
Awesome teacher!!
Hands down THE best math teacher I've ever had. Jay is awesome and does a great job of teaching the material. His work is neither too hard nor too easy. HIGHLY recommended.
don't miss a chance to have this teacher.
This Professor is by far the best math professor i have ever had, he is exptremely talented at explaining the material, do not hesitate to take his class
very clear and helpful and straight to the point
I had Jay for 270 and 272, and I tried desperately to get him for 271. He is one of the best math teachers I've ever had.
Jay lectures great. he cares about his students and is very friendly during office hours. his tests are extremely long but fair. His HW are a joke and his lab are ok too. he grades papers very quickly. he is very confindent and it passes onto his students
Really nice guy!!!
Jay is the best teacher I have ever had. He's insanely friendly, enthusiastic, funny, entertaining. I could go on and on. I recomend him to everyone I know and am trying to get into his Calculus class now. Wonderful wonderful teacher!!!!
his classes are really easy and always helps out
Great teacher who understood college. Great for a first college math teacher. If you participate he makes it alot easier on you as an individual. Very good math teacher.
great teacher always willing to help and does not give alot of homework. Not very many test and easy quizes.
Amazing teacher with a lot of energy. He keeps his students attention and explains everything very well.
Great teacher!!! Very clear and wants to help.
Best math teacher I have ever had!
Prof. Abramson is very clear about what he expects from his students. He is very helpful and encourages questions/participation during lectures.
This guy is a fantastic teacher. By far the best math teacher I've ever had. He paces the class exactly after the homework and has great reviews for the tests. I would recommend taking this guy even if you don't have to.
Great teacher, very enthusiastic, very helpful, very clear in his teaching.
BEST MATH TECHER I EVER HAD
great class and is always in a good mood! great teacher!
I hate math more than any subject. But I got a B in Mr. Abramsons class, because he is an amazing teacher. Nicest guy in the world and he makes such an effort to get to know everyone and make the class fun. Write down all the notes because there EXACTLY like webwork and the tests. Your lucky if you have him!!!
great teacher
I failed math before. I was not excited about taking it again. He helped me so much and I actually learned and had fun too. I took it over the summer and I am even taking another class with him again. If you have to take this class he is great.

By far the best professor I've had at ASU. I took Calc 1 as a requirement for my program, and ended up taking 2 & 3 with him and decided to minor in the subject. Always in a great mood!
This guy rocks!

Speaks fast as****, squeaks 'HI!!!" when you have a question. Don't miss a class cuz he friggin flies through the stuff, but he's clear as crystal, and easy to understand. He makes a lot of sense and is mad willing to help you out.
He get's the job done

Jay Rocks!
The man is a genius!!! When you learn something in his class you really learn it!!!
if you thought u could never get an A in math...u will with this teacher!! he is the best of all time!! hes got a great personality and he loves what he does....math is fun and you get what u deserve!!
The class is a cake walk compaired to CALC III but jay is by far the best math teacher in the department
Jay rocks the house! beats the hell out of any calc teacher out there!
Jay is THE****. He was the most interesting and quirky math teacher I have ever had. Always kept it fun, yet you actually learn the material. You would be stupid to take any other teacher for those classes.
Jay is amazing. If you have to take all your Calc classes, take them from him!
Jay is the best professor ever. He makes everything an ease, no matter how hard the subject material is. He doesn't move on until the material being covered is understood. Teaches in an unorthodox, original way, but it's very effective. A++
Jay is RIPPED. And he's a math powerhouse, god i love that guy. He's funny as hell too, I've never had such a good math teacher.
I cannot give a teacher higher praise.
All I can say is this is the best math teacher in the world! I had to take this class over, and he was so helpful. If I would have had him the first time around I know i would have past. He keeps classes interesting, and he teaches at your level, he doesn't try to impress, he's there to help!
Very nice and patient with all of his students.
This is by far the best mathematics teacher I have had in my life. He is always very interested in teaching new material and makes it a lot of fun (something most math teachers don't do). Test material is reviewed a week before the test so that it can be looked over by the student. I wanted to take calculus III with him, but I couldn't ;-(
Best math teacher I have ever had. He does a geat job making the information presentable and interesting. Tests reflect what is taught in class. He is very easy to get a hold of outside of class for help if needed and is more than willing to spend some extra time with you so that you understand everything. I would highly recommend!
I thought this guy was a psycho. He made me feel uncomfortable when asking questions.
Very enthusiastic
Jay was easily the best math teacher I've ever had! He is a coffee junkie- which only added to his contageous excitement for mathematics. IF YOU NEED A MATH CLASS, TAKE HIS CLASS!!
HE was by far the best math teacher i have ever had. extremely helpful and really explains things well. I am aweful in math and i got a A+ in his class. If you keep up with all the work the class with be a breeze. Tests are also well planned out and he pretty much gives you whats on the test right before. GREAT CLASS!!!! : )
great teacher
I'm currently in Jay's College Algebra class and I can promise you that I will take EVERY math class possible from now on with this man. He is incredibly patient with the mathematically challenged, and he is extremely clear about what is going to be on the test way in advance. Do the homework and go to class for the quizzes...no problem!
awesome awesome teacher!
Great teacher!! really nice and understanding!!
Very good teacher....He uses his own book for the class, but it is because it is a VERY good book.
I had him in summer school and he was really great teacher. I went in thinking I was going to fail the class because it it was math, I came out w/ an A.
He was so nice! The class was really interesting and all the math was very interesting topics about everyday stuff. the tests are a little hard and there is an open-note open discussion quiz EVERY SINGLE DAY OF CLASS...they are 5 pts and easy to do good on but that makes attendance really important. the tests are ok-do the hw and attend class!
He is an amazing teacher! I always thought math was okay, not easy, but not hard. Jay managed to make my 7:40 class fun and almost worth getting up! The reviews are crucial because they are basically the test. TAKE YOUR CLASS FROM JAY!!! you wont regret it
I hate math but he made it easy to follow, graded more than fairly, and was willing to help whenever needed. He makes it clear, is kinda funny, and his examples make sense. Plus he draws pictures when warranted and also brings in real world points. An added freebie on each test was mathemetician facts -- no math required, just memory. A+++++++++

Took this class with a different teacher and got a D. Second time, took it with Jay and got an A. EASIEST TEACHER! Take him!!
Jay Abramson is by far the best mathematics lecturer at ASU. He will answer all of your questions and not make you feel stupid for asking. He is extremely helpful and he wants you to succeed. Come to all his classes because he gives a quiz at the end of class, however he allows everyone to help each other any use notes. All around awesome teacher!!
Awesome
great teacher. talks really fast but makes math funnish. exams are exactly like the notes so if you go to the class you'll ace the test.
Awesome teacher!! i took his class as a summer class and usually its harder but it wasnt it was great!!! i learned a lot!! Love this Teacher!!!! Take him if you can!!
Jay has been my favorite teacher in my two years, so far, at ASU. I had an 8:40 math class with him... soulds unbearable, huh? Wasn't. Ive always hated math and done poorly in it, but with I loved it with Jay. He kept everyone awake, and interested, and helped everyone understand anything they were confused about. Pick him as a MAT 142 teacher
Jay has to be the best math professor that I have ever had, I took him as a refresh course in college algebra before I went on to take MAT 265, 266, 267...because of his clarity and constant examples I was able to focus more on calc concepts and not get hung up on algebra..So you can credit by A's in both 265 and 266 to Jay.
he's really clear about what he teaches and is hilarious
Jay is a great professor. You'd be making a mistake by not choosing him as a prof for math. He doesn't have any negatives rather all positives. It's hard to get anything below a B in his class, given you do what is required.
Jay is a great teacher, the class is quite difficult but that is the case for mat 210. 30 percent of your grade is from homework which really helps you out since the tests are by now means easy.
best math teacher i have ever had. before his class i thought i was math-impaired, but i guess i had just never been taught in a way that was easy and well... kinda fun. super nice guy, he wins at life.
He's a little goofy, but he explains everything very well and will take as long as you need until you understand it. I wouldn't call the class easy, but as long as you show up, pay attention and do the HW, the absolute worst you'll do is a C. I only did about half the homework, and was half asleep most of the time (8:40 class) and I still got a C+
this guy is tight he is very clear and helpful and makes it sooooo easy... if u don't get an A don't blame anyone but yourself
Jay is one of the best math teachers that I've ever had. I am typically not good at math and have difficulty understanding calculus. Jay's lectures were very clear, and when I was still confused, I went to visit him during office hours and he was EXTREMELY helpful. I cannot recommend him enough. Asking questions in office hours turned my C to an A.
Abramson is the bomb! He's really good at explaining Calculus to a wide audience, as well as making the subject interesting. There is a lot of Mathzone homework and daily hw problems, but it's really to help you improve your math, not just busy work. He's also really funny and nice. You can tell he cares about his students!
He's a great math teacher. Don't expect a good grade if you don't put time in. My only complaint would be the short office hours
Great teacher. The class is really good and he is really fair. Watch out for the first test, it will be harder than you expect.
This teacher is one of my favorites ... He is very clear and helpful.. If you study the test and do the homework it's an easy A. Just wish he taught upper division because he is so clear.
Very clear explanations of material. Encourages questions during lecture, answers them clearly and without bias of the student. Even if the question is about material JUST covered, he still stops to explain it before moving on. Very patient. Quizzes before each class about material from the day before, but nothing major.
He is very easy teacher that get to know him easily.
he isnt the best teacher, i love math, always got a B or higher in my math classes, but the way he teaches is ridiculous...i would not recommend. He does not explain the concepts at all. he just writes them on the board and expects you to know the whole problem. Its irritating. Test are tricky alittle. make sure you go to tutoring and study study
Jay is awesome!! I had him for Calc I and now I have him for Calc II. He tells you exactly what will be on the exam, and his lectures are clear and detailed. I don't know what more anyone could ask for in a math teacher.
Jay is the best math teacher I have ever had. Calc 2 isn't an easy class, but jay definitely makes an A possible. Go to his office hours as much as possible and you will get an A for sure. My test average was a 99% and he always helped me with homework or recitation problems without making me feel stupid. also good for letters of recommendation
I loved this class. He makes it slightly entertaining, but it is math so he can only do so much. Has a review before each test and tells you exactly what will be on it. Overall a good class. I recommend him.
He is a fair professor. What he says is going to be on the exams will be on the exams
To get an A: Take good notes (or get them from someone), study ONLY what he says will be on the exam (he is very specific and nice here), see him in office hours (sometimes he straight up tells you what will be on the tests), do ALL and ONLY problems in class reviews/lecture notes examples of what he says will be on the test. Nice guy, TAKE HIM!
Fun guy, got C's in high school precal but got an A in Abramson's. Attendance is manditory, but usually a friend will check your name. Highly recommended
A bit hard test-wise but he's pretty interesting
Super easy class. Just go and he crams the information into your head. If you do the sample questions a plethora of times before the test, you'll get 100%. He literally gives you the test questions - sometimes the same numbers. You'll understand for sure. I received an A+ quite easily. Don't need the book at all.
Absolutely one of the best math teachers I have ever have. Glad that my 8 am class is with him because he makes me WANT to go to class! Ask questions if you need help because he loves helping you. Such a nice person and is absolutely hilarious with his dorkiness! Try to get in his class because he is seriously the best!
AWESOME PROFESSOR! He makes math class fun to go to, which is hard to do at 8 in the morning! Nicest professor I've ever met and treats all of his students, even the ones who ask stupid questions all the time, with respect. Just attend class and study what he tells you will be on the test (he's very specific) and you will get an A!
Great professor! Always willing to help. You get participation credit for attendance, if you make it every day and do the homework you'll do great! No exams in hybrid course, only final exam which was straight forward. After reviewing for the final in class, twice, I got an A on the exam.
By far, one of the best teachers I've ever had and one of my favorites. Because of credit transfer bull, I had to take calculus again, and the clarity from my last teacher to Abramson is a world of difference. He is extremely helpful and genuinely cares whether you understand or not.
Jay is one of the best math professors I have ever had and he's so sweet too! He made math interesting and fun and gave all sorts of real world examples as well as showing neat tricks and tools on the calculator! Everyone should definitely take a class taught by Jay
This is the sweetest teacher I have ever had! He's so nice and is always willing to help. The hybrid course for this class is very straightforward. He definitely makes math more fun and understandable! I recommend this teacher!!!
I pretty much loved Jay. He is a really funny guy. I thought he taught the material well. Sometimes it felt like he was going find of fast but you get used to it and then he is really easy to follow. Just take notes and he tells you exctly what is on the tests!
Awsome teacher! Definitely reccomend taking his class. I took calc 1 with him. He is so helpful, he extends his ofc hrs before a test to allow those students who cant attend his reg ofc hrs. He is clear what will be on his tests. he will answer email too. Go to class every day and take notes. tests are off his notes. Hard class, but he will help :)
Great teacher. Really knows his stuff. Makes his lectures fun and tests are easy. No need for book just go to class.
Great teacher. Helps you a lot and in very nice. He is always offering help and really knows his stuff!
Phenomenal teacher! Very clear, extremely helpful, wants every student to pass, clearly knows his stuff and is just an overall good guy. If you have the opportunity to take him for any class, I highly recommend him.
Best math teacher ever. Hes so helpful and makes sure the class understands. I love his method of teaching. He made me want to go on to higher levels of math than needed. He is an asset to asu.
awesome professor. take his class!
He helped me very much during my summer program! Great guy!
I took his hybrid pre calc class. I would highly recommend him. He is super healpful and prepared us well for the exam. I've never had an A in math and I got one in his class. He's probably the nicest and funniest teacher I've ever had. Jay rocks.
Amazing teacher. I went in terrified I would not pass due to a break in my education for the last 8 years and he blew me away! Go to office hours; he will bend over backward to make sure you understand. Best teacher ever.
Great professor, woudnt have passed math without him
Absolutely wonderful teacher. Math will never be fun to me but he is the first math teacher where I really felt confident I was learning. Very helpful and great guy.
Jay is the best math teacher I have every had!! He knows his stuff and unlike some math professors he actually knows how to teach it. All of his notes correlate to his tests that way nothing is a surprise. Go to class, speak up if you have a question, and go to the review session he or the TA's hold before each test and you'll be just fine!
Amazing teacher. Homework he assigns is easy and relates to things covered in class. Exams are also very easy as every question that shows up is a clone of one in notes from his lectures. Don't need the book.
Hybrid. Best math teacher at ASU. The notes you take in class directly correlate to your group quiz. You have 100 tries for each homework problem. Amazing teacher and super helpful. I would recommend him to anyone!
Was a great professor! I took MAT 170 during a summer program and he was always so helpful. He was super nice and even after I was done with taking his course he helped me when I couldn't understand another professor's math class. I definitely recommend this professor if you want to have a great experience with math classes.
Jay is by far one of the best professors at ASU. He is very clear about what he expects and tells you EXACTLY what you can do to pass his tests. Go to EVERY review session for the tests and the Recitation reviews as well, Jay notices and his appreciation for determined students is reflected in the grades he gives those students!!
He is amazing! Very enthusiastic about teaching! Awesome at what he does! Makes the course the perfect amount of difficulty.
Jay is the best professor at ASU , hands down. He makes it nearly impossible to do bad in the class, but you have to go to every class and take notes because there is a super easy open note quiz at the end. TAKE HIM WHENEVER YOU CAN!!!
Such an awesome teacher. Makes funny comments and keeps things interesting. If you take this online or as a hybrid, the test are online and open for a 24 hour window. Easy to use your notes on those test until the final. Very cool class and teacher for a Calculus course.
I had to retake this class and Jay blew my other professor out of the water. He goes pretty quick but if you take good notes and copy the example from the board its pretty easy. If you do get lost he is more than willing to help during his office hours. Super nice and an excellent math teacher.
Jay is the best. You can't go wrong with him, he's very helpful and he wants everyone to get a good grade. Please, if you have the opportunity to take him, just get into his class without thinking. I wish I could take more classes with him
By far the best ASU math teacher you will ever come across. If you have a change to take him do so you will not regret it one bit.
Take him and you will thank me fr rest of your life
Such a great professor! I never took Pre-Calc or Trig and I have an A in his class! TAKE HIM FOR SURE!
Jay is the best math teacher at ASU. He explains material well and is always willing to help. He also keeps you interested during lectures so it's easy to pay attention. I've struggled with this class (2nd time taking it) and I am hopeful that I will pass this semester because of him. It is hard material to understand but Jay makes it easier.
Best math teacher I've ever had. If you aren't naturally good at math, YOU NEED JAY
Jay is a very interesting guy to say the least, but one of the best math professors you will ever have. He has a way of teaching that is unlike any other and makes even the hardest subjects easy to understand. The tests are average and you will never see anything on a test that wasn't covered in lecture so TAKE NOTES and study them before tests!
Jay is the greatest math professor out there, hands down! He is so helpful, extremely clear on what will be on the tests, and he's hilarious. Makes calculus lectures as enjoyable as they can be. All test material is directly from the notes, attend class and study the notes and you cant fail. If at all possible, choose Jay as your professor!
Jay is awesome! He makes funny comments that just make my day, his class is the only one I look forward to. Know how to do the notes and you'll do great on every test. He is super helpful with question and does not judge "stupid" questions. Easy quiz points if you come to class.
Jay is great in lectures. Although the class only meets once a weeks he manages those 45 minutes to fit in well so that he is able to cover everything. He explains everything clearly, and is open for office hours.
Really nice guy, and even though the material is difficult he teaches it well. DO THE HOMEWORK. I was getting really good grades on all the tests and thought I could just skip the homework, wound up barely getting a C when I could have had a solid B.
Jay is one of the best math teachers. All the exams were from the notes with the exact same numbers. attend the class and write down what he says and you'll get A. Very hilarious Prof.
Jay is a really chill guy The hybrid class I took was fairly easy. Lectures were online and were decent. If you need more help this stuff is on youtube... I had class once a week and Jay quickly lectured over the material and then had the class complete a quick worksheet. He lectures barefoot which I thought was badass. Humorous guy.
Jay is the best math teacher I have ever had. I was really worried that I wouldn't do well--math has never been my best subject--however, Jay made everything extremely clear and was always willing to answer questions. Take him if you can!
Jay is the best teacher I have had at ASU! n lectures he give's tons of examples. At the end of each class he gave us 2-4 questions to answer and then turn in. These questions are the same thing we did in lecture you just have to swap numbers plus you get do use your notes and work with others. You just have to try and you will get a good grade.
He is one of the best professors I've take this entire year. He explains the material very well and if you have a question he'll be glad to answer. As long as you pay attention, do your homework and study, you should be able to get at least a B.
I took Jay for MAT 210 and he was awesome! Also he totally lectures barefoot! I feel like he teaches in a very clear and direct way and if you are participating and doing the in class quizzes (open note and you can ask questions and homework there is no reason you shouldn't do well. Plus tests are open note except the final.
I have never had a teacher who makes math so easy to understand. This was my second calculus class, and it was one of the easiest A's I have ever gotten. He makes the material so clear and so easy. He is always willing to help you before, during, and after class, and will spend as much time as the class needs covering topics. AMAZING!
Jay is by far one of the best professors I've had at ASU. He explains concepts very well and is very helpful during his office hours. The first 3 test are online which makes it easy because you have your notes handy. The final is in person with no notes or note card so you must study hard for the final. I recommend him to every ASU student.
Jay is one of the best professors I have had at ASU. He explains concepts very well in class and is extremely helpful during his office hours. The first 3 test are online which makes it easy for you to use your notes. The final is cumulative and in person with no notes. Make flashcards like he suggests as a study tool it. I highly recommend him!
You can't expect a easier MATH than that of Jay's. Just attend the class, listen, take up the quiz at the end of the class and get an A. Little work and A+. Exams are straight from lecture. **I got an A taking in Summer A along with Cal 2, then imagine how easy Jay would have made class for us**
Honestly he is the best educator I've ever had. Not that his class is easy, but he makes it incredibly understandable and everything he teaches is exactly what's on exams and homework. If you didn't get the grade you want it's your fault. Jay does his part and goes well beyond.
Absolutely the best professor I have ever had! He is always there to help and takes the time to get to know every student. He will tell you exactly what problems are going to be on the exams and only expects you to know exactly what he tells you to know. He is very quick to respond to emails and has grades up almost immediately. Jay is the best!!
He is a great professor, his videos on Blackboard are super helpful and the video quiz questions come directly from the video. If you can take him for MAT210 & MAT211 go for it!
Hybrid class was great- you basically get taught the material twice (if you watch the videos) and he's very nice/helpful when you don't get the material. Two online, open-note tests and the final. The class is so easy and Abramson is by far my favorite professor this semester.
I'm not really a math person but as long as you take notes during his lectures that shouldn't be a problem. He explains everything very clearly and will go more in-depth on on a subject if someone needs the help.
This was by far the best math class I ever had. Jay is a great professor and is the best one to have! homework each week online. 3 online tests weren't too bad. Make sure you take your time and them because they affect your grade greatly. Final in person with multiple choice and free response questions. Hard subject, great teacher. Get Him!!!!
Jay is awesome!!! I took him for MAT 210 and now 211. Teachers hybrid, so only attend once a week. Online HW and Exams except final (done in-person). If you have a problem, he is so quick to help. He makes difficult concepts manageable. I would recommend anyone to take him.
Jay is an INCREDIBLE Calc I professor. Having now taken some less-than-good Calc teachers in the years that followed, I can confidently say that Jay was one of the most caring, enthusiastic, and helpful professors that one can ever hope to have. The dude learns every one of his 300+ students' names. Go to class. Take. Jay. Abramson.
He is a great guy and willing to work with you. He responds almost immediately on the discussion board and does amazing online videos that are khan academy helpful! TAKE HIM!!!!!! HE'S THE BEST
Jay is the best professor I have had at ASU! I never write reviews about anybody, but he really deserves all the praise he can get. His lectures are clear and to the point. Final is always super easy, if you study. Definitely take him! I took him for MAT210 and MAT211, no regrets! If you need to change your schedule to fit him in, DO IT.
This class was very easy for one reason: Mr. Abramson. He made his lectures so easy that I could daydream half the time, and I still fully comprehended everything. His online videos were also very helpful and informative. Only the final wasn't take home, and it was very easy. Lastly, Abramson is very nice, sincere and gives you all his attention
I found his class to be very easy to understand. I took the course online, and his video lectures explained the concepts in a clear and concise manner.
He was honestly the best professor that I've had since being at ASU. He really does care about whether or not you understand the material. He is very specific about what you will be tested on and as long as you do the study guide and show up to class you'll do fine in the course. He also offers extra credit for the final and homework.
Prof. Abramson is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Literally took this course with a different professor and didn't pass, took it with him and he made the subject so understandable I was able to work and get an A+. Make sure to do the homework early, there's extra credit. Attend all classes for the group quizzes. Take him if you can!
Best math professor!!!! Makes calculus more easier.
Don't take math from anyone else! Jay makes calculus as easy as possible and there are enough assignments that if you do poorly on a test it won't kill you. every class period has a 20 point quiz so don't miss class.
Made math topics easy to understand. Tells you what is going to be on each test. Take him for math 210/211!
I am terrible at math and honestly it was a miracle that I got a C.
Jay was awesome. I've had to take this class a few times due to life struggles and Jay was the only one to answer questions on Piazza. Most of the others let the TAs and students answer questions. This is one of the toughest classes I've taken, not because of the material, but the time. Be prepared to study a ton. Tests are hard, but fair.
Even if you are not a math person, you will like taking a math class with Jay. If you don't understand the material, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He will respect the fact that you are looking for help and will do everything he can to help clarify the material for you. Very positive, cheerful, authentic, caring and logical in every sense of the word.
Best math teacher I have ever had. He's funny, but also a GREAT teacher. You can tell he cares about each and every student. I wish I could have him every semester.
TAKE PROF ABRAMSON AT ALL COSTS!! He cares about his students so much, his lectures are efficient and effective, and he gives you everything you need to get an A, while also actually learning the content. Best math prof I've ever had!
Such an amazing professor. Cares about his students!
Hybrid class once a week, online assignments on WebAssign due monday nights. "Quiz" on the lecture at the end of class but you can talk to people and use notes. Online WebAssign exams but in person final.
Great professor. His notes are so clear that you hardly ever have to ask questions. He doesn't make you feel stupid if you ask for help. Great guy he's always happy and welcoming.
Abramson is by far the best professor I have had. He makes the material understandable and is very approachable if you do not understand the content. Quizzes every class, exams are online and fair, final is not bad if you study. Overall he is a solid professor would recommend him to anyone taking MAT 211 or MAT 210.
Take him for math 210/211 you won't regret it
I took this class as a hybrid, which makes the course a lot easier since all the tests, except for the final, are online. Prof. Abramson is interesting because he walks around without shoes and always has an energy drink, but the class itself is fine. There is a collaborative quiz every class. Homework is easy. Final is in-person and easy.
Easy to reach out to. He really seemed to care about how the students were doing in his class
Highly recommend him and the hybrid class, he really cares about his students. Notes are straight to the point, daily worth 20 points at the end of each lecture. Video quiz 20 points for each section (answers from the notes) and exam are taken online and final in person.
If you have trouble with math, TAKE HIM. Very straightforward, simplifies everything so it is easy to understand. Video lectures always available online that go over topics in detail, in class he provides a ton of examples for understanding application. Eccentric guy but very helpful. FINAL is in-person, 25% of grade though, so beware the final...
Not clear grading criteria, the syllabus was very confusing to understand as a freshman. Also, you pay $180 for a WebAssign txtbook that you do not open once-- do not buy physical copy--only online version. He waits to upload grades because hw is on WebAssign so you don't know your final grade until he merges them together end of semester.
Best math teacher ever!!! He makes hard topics seem so much easier. He cares about the students. There is a daily quiz in class, but you can use your notes and work with the people around you. Overall great class and great guy!
great teacher bc he genuinely cares about the subject and his students! always a great attitude. attend class bc he doesn't post lecture notes online and you have quizzes after every class. the final is hard bc its exactly what he says it is. i failed both finals but passed class--they are deceitfully easy
Really Amazing!! Would recommend this professor to anyone. He was well respected amongst my peers!
He is very clear and good at teaching each concept (sometimes goes a little too fast). I highly recommend going to class and taking good notes. If you're good at math you'll probably do well in this class. That said, the classwork and homework is very self-explanatory but the content on the exams smacks you in the face with how different it is.
Jay has been the 2nd best Math teacher for me. He's been doing this for 36 years and has a heck of amount of experience. If you got the chance to take him DO IT! You won't regret doing so, I promise.
Jay is a very good guy. every class he lectures the material and then gives a quiz at the end of each class worth 20 points. honestly i dont think he grades them because i got 100% on all the qizzes and i think they are just taken for attendance . all tests are online and not recorded, and the final is in person. i recommend him
Jay is a great guy and a solid professor. Cares lots about his students, and teaches a structured, clear class. Attendance is mandatory and essential. Took his 7:30am class and regret nothing. The first exam is difficult, but the material following it is not nearly as bad. If you have to take 211, Jay is the way to go, hands down.
Jay is a cool prof! You have three exams (very heavy on your grade and he does not drop any low scores or curve whatsoever), the first two are online and the final (not Cumulative) is in person. Do your homework and video quizzes, also be prepared to take some good notes. This hybrid course was really fast paced, we learned 3-4 topics in one day.
Tests are short and fair. That is the only good part about this class. The homework is bogus. You must receive 75% on each individual HW section in order to open the quiz. The HW does not count towards grade and if you do not achieve 75% you have to redo a practice problem and mini quiz, Which is VERY time consuming. Horrible and lazy HW setup.
Hybrid class amounts to lots of time consuming, unnecessary hw through cengage, frantically taking down the notes in class bc he goes too fast, and a brief, vague response whenever you ask for help on the hw. Even if you do every assignment, attend every lecture and take notes, you still end up not knowing the material and MIGHT get a passing grade
Jay is awesome! He is the best math professor I've had. I'm in his hybrid course. His class is very consistent and is easy to succeed in-- if you pay attention. He will go over notes in every class and you are required to show your understanding by doing a "daily," which is like a ticket out the door. If you get the chance to take his class, do it!
Nice professor, always welcoming in class. Sometimes a little fast on lectures, but is nice when someone asks to repeat. Took his hybrid class and seemed to understand the material. The video quizzes and videos on Cengage helped a lot. The video quizzes are him teaching so no surprises. Pay attention and don't be afraid to ask for help.
One of the best math professors I've ever had. I took his hybrid class, and even though the lectures could be a little fast, I could follow them as long as I did the homework and the videos before class. Make sure to take good notes because there are daily quizzes. I would definitely take him again.
70% of your grade is from two exams, the mid term and the final. And you better memorize every single formula and step to solve every problem because he allows ZERO notes on the exam and it's proctored. I would not recommend this class in an online format.
Tough class if you don't pay attention. He is a good professor and knows what he is talking about. He does want you to succeed.
Abramson is a great choice for 210. He does go through lecture pretty fast but most material is pretty easy to pick up. Weekly homework through Webassign but you get 100 attempts so you can easily get 100%. Exams are not too bad. I've always been decent at math, but calc has never been my strong suit. Abramson really helped me understand calc!
Prof Abramson's class overall is not difficult if you show up to class and do the homework. Test and quizzes are identical the the notes and homework just different numbers. Attendance is mandatory because there is a graded quiz every class, however as long as you show up and complete the homework, you should get a good grade.
One of the best professors ever. If you ever take MAT210, I really hope you take it with Jay. His lectures are very important and you should always go to his class. The homework is just like the tests, so do the homework multiple times.
Amazing professor! He is very patient and will ensure that you understand all the material, even after class. As long as you use the resources he provides such as the videos, WebWork assignments, and practice problems from the notes, this class should be very doable!
Amazing professor! If you need to take MAT 210, take it with him! Lectures are mandatory since there is a graded quiz after every class but they are identical to the notes he goes over. The tests are very similar to the homework, just with different numbers. Exams are proctored. His classes only have 45 seats so make sure you get him quick!
Funny guy, lectures go by super fast and there isnt time to ask questions.
Overall this course wasn't hard, it was just time consuming because of the sheer size of the amount of homework. However if you do the work, and understand every problem on the mid-term and final exam reviews, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A in the class.
IF you have the opportunity to take him, do it! His lecture notes are identical to the homework on WebAssign and the exams as well. Quirky personality. You do have to show up for class because he does a quiz after the end of every class that mirror what was taught in class with different numbers for the problems. Exams are a big part of your grade
He is good, but if you are a slow learner his hybrid class is not for you. 2 chapters per week, and you have to watch 2 20 min videos to prep for them. the class is NOT easy, but doable. He goes EXTREMELY fast during class, I had to resort to printing out the notes before class because if I tried to write them by hand he would already be moving on
He is so great at teaching math. One of the most excellent mat professors for me personally.
This was the best math professor EVER! He is so kind and you can tell he truly cares about the success of his students. He has quizzes at the end of every lecture and they are super easy if you attend class. I would recommend this professor to anyone taking MAT 211. I wish he had more classes.
While this class was challenging, Abramson was a very good professor and taught all the material very well. It is a high paced class but if you put in the work and attend class every week you can do very well in the class.
MAT210 is a hard subject itself but Abramson trys to make it as clear as possible. I took his hybrid class and felt learning 2-3 lessons in an hour was a bit too much. He tells you exactly what to expect on the tests and final. Tests are on canvas not proctored but final is in person. Attendance is mandatory!!
Prof Abramsom is the BEST math teacher I have ever had. He has ALL of his lecture notes available on canvas. I would recommend writing them down in your own notebook either before or after class because you can't follow along during lectures since he does move at a fast pace to cover all the material. He makes this class very easy to pass!
Professor Abramson is amazing! He has a set structure for his class, go over notes/examples, and take a daily "quiz" (you can work with classmates). He flies by on the lecture, so he recommends to go over notes before class. There are assignments due once per week, online homework (that are exactly like the tests) and video quizzes. Easy A class.
Abramson was a great choice for me. Fair workload, clear grading criteria. 4 Tests do make up 70% of your grade though, which can be stressful, but if you go to class, then you should be fine.
From day 1 he will tell you exactly what he holds up on his end. Throughout the semester he is frequently available, and responds to emails quickly. He teaches at the speed of lightning so if you are not familiar with these concepts make sure you learn it. He's a kind person but a real mathematician so he does not make exceptions
Although his lectures move really fast, if you show up to class and pay attention the homework will be really easy. He has office hours every week where he is more that willing to help. Overall an amazing professor who made 211 feel easy!
Fast talker, long lectures, overall good experience!
Great, kind guy. He sets the bar and tells you EXACTLY how to get to it. Very selfless, not arrogant at all, very entertaining and animated lectures. He deserves all the praise. The hybrid format is actually perfect for 211, no outside lectures or work needed.
Jay Abramsom is the epitome of what being a good professor is; he has multiple in depth slides and documents for every chapter and subsection (with plenty of practice problems). He also uploads every single class meeting and videos of himself solving problems. Day 1, he was straight to the point and was extremely kind to every student. Best at ASU.
I took the hybrid class with Jay and it was the best thing ever. Midterms are online and not recorded but the final is short and open question tho. Lectures are super understandable and practical. He has a couple of assignments but they really help you learn especially for the final. Taking him again for 211
This professor was great however you do have to teach yourself a lot so if you are not good at math I would not recommend this teacher.
the BEST teacher at ASU. HW you have 100 attempts per question. First two tests online with lockdown, and last one in person but if you go to his review session he goes over EVERY question that will be in the final. He only wants his students to learn and he is an amazing teacher. Seriously the best class and an EASY A!!
Jay is one of my favorite teachers ever! I took him for both MAT210 and MAT211. In class he goes over his lecture notes which are also posted online. All of the homework and exams are online except for the final. Although he had mandatory attendance, I enjoyed going to his class since he is quite the character and also tends to end them early.
Professor Abramson's class was challenging but rewarding. Attend lectures, use the free textbook, and try Unstuck study - it really helped me prep for the tests. Overall, a solid math course if you're willing to put in the work.
Abramsom actively records review videos for exams, and answers questions daily within the discussions section. The HW was done through Edfinity. There are module lessons within Canvas, but tbh they were sort of pointless. Just watch the HW videos in Ed and you should be fine. Exams were only about 13 questions each and worth about 8 or so points.
This class is heavy and difficult to do while working ft, but bc of how organized & clearly structured the material was it made the class easier to get through. I used the calendar to do the assignments, watched the videos, WATCHED ALL EXAM REVIEW VIDEOS, took good notes, and passed. The videos helped the most and watch them as early as possible.
Overall this professor was great! He has test reviews and ensures that students have everything they need for the tests. The reason I received the grade I did was because I did not realize how test heavy the material was and did not prepare myself accordingly. If you prepare yourself and watch reviews and practice you will be fine.
Honestly, this guy is a great teacher based on my experience. He is also dedicated, he dropped a review video on thanksgiving. You get 5% extra credit on homework if it is done early, so do it. He provides 3 different practice exams for each test. Super responsive and understanding. 10/10 stand up guy
He is an amazing professor! Explains material very clear. Only drawback is there is no partial credit given, but I highly recommend watching his review sessions. By far one of the best math teachers I've had at a subject that can be deemed "not easy". This was my second attempt, from failing to a B this should tell you why you should choose him.
I would not recommend this professor. Even though I received an A, I would not take this class. It's not even his own work or lectures. The course is very unorganized as he releases incorrect dates and emails that obviously were used from previous semesters. One of the worst professors I have ever had.
Abramsom was a great teacher. He was one of the only professors who hosted weekly review sessions that were so good for studying for the tests. You can tell he truly cares about his students and tries to see you succeed.
He's great. He made me understand Calculus in a way I never have before.
