He was one of my favorite professors! Gives you study guides that are exactly like the tests! Yes, you do have to study for this class, but it isn't too bad. The only homework is Webwork and one problem you hand in for attendance.
Jay is Great! One of my favorite professors. Extremely helpful.
Very good professor. Very helpful and makes math about as fun as possible.
Jay is great! He teaches at a really fast pace and tends to reuse jokes, but he does make class enjoyable. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! Working in person with him will help you out tremendously. Attendance is based on a homework problem each day.
He is the greatest and best teacher I have ever met. Very helpful. Teaching with enthusiasm. Choose HIM!!!
This teacher is great! He is very animated and loves his coffee. He makes math fun and keeps everyone involved. He tries not to leave anyone behind. Choose this teacher.
Great proffesor. Took the 5 week summer session and he consolidated what we needed to kno for the tests. test average was always 80. Stay in class, do the webwork/dailys, take advantage office hours(he is extremely helpful then), and realize the examples he does in the notes will be the same on the test except for changes in numbers.
Great professor! Made Calc 2, an otherwise difficult course, manageable. Do the homework, show up to class, and write down every practice problem and you'll do just fine. I wouldn't have any other prof if I could choose. Hilarious. Makes jokes or facetious remarks all the time, and they're actually GOOD!
Jay is a great teacher, better than my precalc through calc 2 teachers. He is very clear about what is going to be on the tests. I didn't find him to be especially helpful when I was stuck on problems, and had to use the math tutoring center. Homework and webwork were not too difficult, and they DO prepare you for his tests.
Awesome teacher!, Very clear and concise during lecture and for review guides on tests. Also very funny, makes jokes to keep the class focused. TOP NOTCH!!!
So good at what he does! His lectures are crystal clear and easy to follow. I really enjoy his class and thats saying a lot because its calculus.
Jay is great! I did not get my required C, but with this guy I was able to understand much more about Calculus as far as concepts and other material discussed in class. He was super fun and had a great sense of humor, which got me more interested in the course over time. He teaches at a fast pace, but explains it very well - recommend to anyone!
I really liked Abramson. He explains things really well and does a lot of examples for each section. His tests aren't too bad either. You definitely have to study for them though. He was a really funny guy and I would definitely want him as a teacher again.
Jay is awesome! It takes a lot of work to do well. The tests are hard, but study your notes like crazy cause some of the questions will be directly from them. He explains things really well and is very helpful during office hours. I'm currently taking his MAT 271 class. He tries to learn everyone's name which is cool since it's such a huge class.
Jay is a great math teacher. He explains the material very well and does not get bogged down in details. His lectures show a real knowledge of the subject. He's also a great guy. Highly recommended.
Sorry but the guy wanders off often . But is good at explaining stuff.
Bottom line, best teacher I've ever had. He makes you enjoy math. You do have to work for a good grade but it's worth it. Highly reccommended.
JAY is the best math teacher ive ever had BY FAR! I sucked at math in high school and ive got a 97 right now.. if you go to the test reviews, he goes through each type of question on the test, just with different numbers. Tests are easy if you go. Funny guy too.. he cracks me up without even trying. TAKE MY MAN JAY YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!
Jay is the BEST teacher I've ever had. This dude has the craziest patience in the world and when asked to clarify he responds in the Upmost amicable manner. He has a funny (insane) characteristic to so because he speaks fast just WANT to learn and youre guaranteed an A. Most clear teacher EVER when it comes to tests too!
Great professor, he makes calculus interesting. Hilarious in class and excellent at explaining the material. He is a bit quarky but it makes you want to go to class. Definitely take him for any math class!
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! He knows his stuff, he is extremely helpful, and he knows how to keep your interest. Abramson is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. I highly recommend!!
Jay is really awesome! Not only does he give alot of examples, and is extremely clear about what to expect on tests, but hes funny too! From my experience hes one of the best professors at ASU!! Super helful! Take him :)
Personable and willing to help during office hours. Answers any questions that come up during lecture. Funny and nice guy.
Great teacher. Wants students to succeed. Tests are more to see if you understand the concepts than testing to see if you can do the hardest problem possible. Again awesome teacher wished he was teaching Diff EQ this Fall.
Professor Abramson is AWESOME. Best math professor I've ever had-- and taking notes actually helps in this class, because he writes everything down. I was nervous to take calc III in 5 weeks, but it was probably the best decision I made :-).
Best Math Professor EVER! He was such a crack-up and really knew what he was talking about! His different teaching styles in and out of the classroom were phenomenal! If you have trouble in the class, I would reccomend going to his office hours because they really help.
Professor Abramson is great! He's quirky which makes calculus worth staying awake for. The homework and lecture notes are more difficult than the tests which is a plus--there are no surprises. He's incredibly nice and answers all questions respectfully.
To be successful in this class you need to be able to teach yourself or recently had calculus or something very close. I don't recommend this class for a senior trying to fill a requirement. Study hard and go to every class, but honestly I don't recommend him to anyone.
Abramson was one of my favorite professors. I really don't have any interest in calculus, but he was animated and entertaining, and gave very helpful lectures. The homework was all online, so it was possible to get a 100 on all assignments. I never used the textbook.
I believe to succeed in this course you need to have a great deal of time to teach yourself/get help or have taken it recently. I do not recommend you take this if you are not extremely confident in your math skills. This prof is condescending at time and generally has a poor teaching method. Find another teacher for Calculus.
I LOVED Professor Abramson. One of the best math teachers I've ever had. He was very fun and quirky which made the class fun and interesting. The online homework was easy even before we took notes on the lesson. I finished with a 97 on the final and over 100% overall.
Jay is one of my favorite math teachers I have ever had. He is a complete goof which keeps his class exciting! I hate math and I never found myself bored in his class. Very funny goofy teacher who loves what he teaches. A++!!!
Abramson is an awesome prof; very, very knowledgeable and clear. Has a nasally voice, and is a quirky guy. He explains everything in detail and offers many examples in class. If you take notes well and understand, you should be well off for the tests. He doesn't curve, but the tests are pretty straightforward.
Took this class as part of a summer program with Abramson. He's aight i guess. Good teacher, class was aight too. What sucked was the homework. about a 100 problems every night. I thought that was very ridiculous and unnecessary.
Jay is an amazing teacher! He's so crystal clear when it comes to calculus. Although the concepts are not the easiest, Jay makes you understand them and provides everything you need before every test. He gives you a 'study guide' in class before every test which makes sure for no surprises on the tests. Highly recommended!
Great! Answers every question and makes the class fun
Very good teacher and very helpful. Some parts are hard but after doing the homework it is become clear. Very useful homework and study plans.
Very good Professor that knows how to properly teach. Everything that students need to know to ace all the exams are on the notes. This professor is very kind and willing to go out of his way to make students pass. He has great passion and talent for math.
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!! Knows exactly how to explain things, and notes are very easy to take. MAKE sure to take notes and go to review sessions because all test problems are straight from there. The online homework is really just there to BS because like I said problems are straight from his notes. So just pay attention in class and get an A :)
You wouldnt want to take calc from anyone else. Seriously the best!get there early so you can sit in the front!
Had him for Freshman year. Went to his Office Hours once and learned more there than any Math class i took, he is a really nice guy to get know.
This guy is amazing. I could go on and on about how great this professor is. Gave you every opportunity to succeed in the class. Just pay attention in class, take notes, and study the notes. Do all of that and you're set.
funny, smart, helpful. great professor. the hybrid course is awesome. do your homework, go to class, listen to the reviews and you'll be fine. wish all math professors would be like this.
Math has never been this easy to understand until I had him as a teacher. He is very clear with the lectures. He is flexible and and easy going. If you need outside help he is willing to meet with you but will not be necessary if you are going to class. There are daily quizzes but are honestly easy and highly helpful.
He is only the world greatest math professor
wouldnt want to take calc from any other teacher. The homework and test are examples almost identical to the notes. He makes every thing so clear. Plenty of examples. I was told not to take calc2 over the summer because it would be hard, but with him it was simple. He teaches everything that will be on the tests and finals. no surprises ever!!
Great Professor, really nice! This course is not an easy A, as you must attend class and do the HW. But the exams are extremely fair. There are no surprises, as everything on the exams come directly from lectures and the recitation HW. His explanations are so clear because he breaks topics down in a way that you can understand.
I have never gotten math until I took this professor. I'm really slow in math and took Algebra 3x and got C's all times except when I had him and it finally clicked with his teaching method and I got an A. He's awesome. I miss him.
Not an easy class at all. Jay is an amazing professor who will go out of his way to help you. Tests are graded very fairly. Great professor if you're looking for a challenge. Very talented lecturer. Stops for questions when needed. No surprises when it comes to your grade or exams. You get the grade you deserve!
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Calculus isn't an easy subject for everyone, but Professor Abramson breaks it down and teaches in a way that guarantees you'll understand what is going on. He is also a very dynamic speaker so he keeps your attention during class. Wonderful class.
Jay is a wonderful instructor! His class isn't easy, but not extremely hard either. It takes a good amount of effort. He's funny, nice and very friendly. His office hours are incredibly helpful for those who are stuck. I recommend this teacher to anyone who doesn't like Calculus! He makes it bearable if not fun :) btw, you NEVER use the text book.
Awesome class! You just sit on a computer in class and go at your own pace. Jay is super helpful and nice! You have to stay "on track" to finish on time, so that sometimes includes some time outside of class, but not much if any. Once you finish the online course, he stops taking attendance for you.
Best professor to take a math class from! He will let you retake a test if you miss it . He teaches in a way thats easy to understand but you must go to class to take quizzes which are a huge part of grade.
I took the hybrid class and I loved it. The tests quizzes and homework are simple, juts make sure you stay on top of everything. Jay is definitely a character. But hes very nice and an AMAZING teacher. I would definitely recommend this class.
This teacher was absolutely amazing. I hate math. With a burning passion. But Mr. Abramson has been one of the greatest math teachers I have ever had. He explained everything so clearly, and was very easy to approach with any questions. Dont get me wrong, this class was very difficult, but he helped me pull through, learning the whole time.
Hybrid class was amazing. Useful if you are pretty good in math and just need the brief overview. WebAssign was easy and in class "dailies" were just a review of the lecture given to make sure you actually understood what he was saying. Loved his witty humor.
Wow. I've only had him for 3 weeks so far, one day per week. So far, so good. He's really good at understanding and he's the first math professor that knows how to get students to learn. He lets us interact with one another on the daily quizzes and sometimes if the online videos are unclear on a topic, he teaches the topic again for clarification.
What a phenomenal professor. Failed MAT 210 twice, then took it with Abramson. So clear in lectures, and explains things so that every student knows what is happening. Best math professor at ASU.
He is a very good teacher who puts a lot of time in to making sure his students understand the concepts. He is very approachable and he has a week-in-review every thursday night that is optional and very helpful. He is also funny and makes the class more exciting. Take this class if you can.
Really great teacher! Before this I hated Math, but he makes it all so easy! One of the best professors at ASU. I mean he is super chill!
Awesome teacher for hybrid classes. Definitely reccomend.
Prof. Abramson is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He is great at explaining concepts and puts a lot of effort into making sure his students understand what he's teaching. Not to mention his quirky sense of humor makes the class entertaining and he is literally one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Abramson is very, very clear and will make sure everyone understands the information before moving on. The subject is difficult but his lectures are clear and helpful. Make sure to do the online homework if you take the hybrid class.
Best professor i ever had! i had him for calc 2
Jay was personally one of my favorite teachers this year, he always brought humor into the class room, and tried to make you involved. While math is challenging for me at least, he tried making sure everyone passed by always writing out similar quiz questions before the test. If you attend class, and do the homework, you are at least going to pass.
great prof. goes way too fast in lectures for my liking but as long as you get all the notes down you should be fine. exams are basically just like the notes. if you study from your notes you should get an A.
The pro is very good, if you watch the video before the class, you will do better in daily quiz. The test is extremely easy, and you can obtain extra credits in final exam, so it means your final score will surpass 100,like mee LOL. I strongly reccomend him !
Took this class as a hybrid and received an A+. He is one of the best math teachers i have had so far. He is clear in his notes and all of his tests are online except for the final (which is exactly like his lecture notes). Very nice guy and makes math easy. TAKE HIS CLASS
Jay is easily the best professor I've had at ASU. He takes time to learn students names, injects energy into the classroom, and makes his class manageable. His lectures are fast paced, but he gives no surprises on his tests. If you can take him, you will not regret it at all. Jay is the man.
I hadn't taken math for 3 years and jumped right back in with Calc 2 and Dr. Abramson. I'm not going to lie, the class was tough for me, but he was an excellent professor. Speaks clearly, responds to emails immediately, and is the most engaging member on the Piazza help boards. Had I taken any other professor, I wouldn't have passed. Thanks Jay!
VERY VERY GOOD PROF. ALSO VERY HELPFUL PROF . IN HIS LECTURE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE MATERIALS AND IF YOU COME BACK HOME AND STUDEY WHAT YOU GOT IN THE LECTURE , YOU WILL NOT FORGET THE MATERIALS .... TRUST ME !!!!
I've taken Calc more than 5 times... seriously. Calc for whatever reason doesn't stick. I've had every calc professor ASU can offer. Zhu, Reynolds and others but I can assure you if you are good or not good at math TAKE jay. Study the notes and what's on the notes is on the test. Do the hmwk and go to class. You'll get a C minimum that's a promise.
A good professor.
Best Math teacher I've taken at ASU. His commentary is hilarious and he remembers his students. He teaches the concepts extremely well and understands where students get confused. If you put the effort in, there is no reason you can't get at least a B.
Great professor. Talks 1000 words per minute.
Very good math teacher
great professor
Jay is great! He's weird, but the man knows Calc. I took him for 210 and 211 both hybrid. One in class assignment after the lecture, a few video quizzes per week that are direct examples from the videos. Homework can be sort of hard but tests are just like the notes and are online. Hardest part is the closed notein person final worth 25% of grade
Great teacher
Jay builds good rapport with his students. They respect him, and he respects them. He is quirky and he knows it, and he is one of the funniest professors I have taken. There are group quizzes daily on the material done in class, which, if you're paying attention, will help your grade. Tests are moderate in difficulty. Homework is not excessive.
I took his class at 7:30am and would show up late on most days because it was hard to wake up. He made it entertaining and he is very funny. He has review sessions before tests and goes over what is on the tests during these sessions. Office hours really help and he will help on tests if you're really stuck. Study! the first few tests mess you up.
This professor is absolutely amazing. One of the best at ASU. If something important comes up and you have to miss class, if you just talk to him he is totally understanding and will do anything to help you get back on track. I had an A+ the entire semester except I bombed the final. The final is tough, but his class is worth it!
Jay is probably my favorite professor at ASU. I was in his 7:30 he learnt everyone's names and was chipper and cracking jokes all semester long. His tests are literally EXACTLY from his notes. Once a test question was an exact in class problem. Take him if you don't want to struggle in calc.
Jay is a great professor and the nicest guy with a PHD. Ive ever met. If you take his hybrid for MAT210 or 211 attendance is SUPER mandatory, if you miss a daily quiz, your grade will drop considerably. Also, you can only be absent twice. All tests are online except for the final. The tests are open note, so take them with friends!
If you get Jay as your professor, congratulations! He is THE best calculus teacher. Material is clearly presented, and he makes math fun. Would love to have him again! This class is difficult which is why I am so glad I had Jay.
Very easy class as long as you attend class (he has in class problems for quizzes). I didn't watch any of the online videos since he covered everything in class. Quizzes were easy and the final exam was a piece of cake.
Jay is THE best math teacher I have ever had in my entire life. He genuinely wants to help you. I took this as a hybrid class and it was the best thing I have done. The tests were very straight forward and the way he teaches makes it easy to understand what is going on.
Jay is the man. He's extremely nice and makes material clear as day. Without a doubt the best Math teacher I've ever had & the best Calculus prof. at ASU. I went through some tough personal things early in the semester and got really off track. He was extremely understanding, and worked with me to bring me back up to speed. All around great guy.
Jay is an awesome math teacher. He explains it in a way to make sure you get it. I took the hybrid class and the tests were online which is nice. Don't miss out on easy points such as hw and quizzes. The final is in person and is only 20 questions. At the end of the semester he will tell you exactly what you need to study. You don't need the book.
I was in his hybrid class. he was such a great teacher! he was very easy to talk to and helped whenever needed. you can tell he really cares about his students. I would say that participation does matter because he would give us about 3 questions to do and turn in at the end(super easy by the way) I would definitely recommend this class! EASY A!
Prof Abramson was really great, I took his hybrid class and my only regret was not putting enough time into studying/HW outside of class. He is very clear when he lectures and he makes sure that everyone understands each concept. He is always available to help and class has a very clear set up every week it is the same. Would definitely recommend.
Jay is easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is always happy to help, he keeps his lectures entertaining with subtle jokes, he will never make you feel stupid for asking a question, and he teaches math in a way that no other teacher here can compare to. On top of all that he is the most genuine guy. GET HIM 4 MAT 210-211, at all costs
Abramson was honestly such a good teacher. I took his hybrid class. I had to drop my last math course, but Abramson explains everything so well. If you don't get it you can ask him or the TA for help, and they both help a lot. Get him for 210-211 at ANY cost. It's the best decision you will make. P.S. Webassign can tank a grade.. do it well.
I had Abramson for both 210 and 211 - got lucky with finding a random spot in his hybrid section the first semester and that was the best decision ever. He's of the mindset that you don't need to be hammered with lecture after lecture to learn. He makes little jokes and tries to make the class enjoyable. Whether you like math or not, take him!
Just take him
Awesome math teacher
I like Jay, you can tell he cares about students and puts a lot of effort into his courses. Only faults with his class are the pace he explains topics in his lectures (I stopped watching them and go directly to Professor Leonard on YouTube). Also, the webwork system is pretty terrible compared to MyMathLab, not sure that's his fault though.
Great teacher! You can tell he knows what he's doing. I took his Hybrid, he doesn't waste a minute of class. Never boring, goes just the right pace. Gives daily quizzes you can work with your neighbors, easy 20 points every class. Caring and will ask you how your day is going when you greet him. Failed 210 and am passing with his class with a 98!
AWESOME! Knows his stuff, genuinely cares about students. Lectures are crystal clear; writes out color-coded notes on projector, will let you take pictures of them after. Online HW is brutal, but has unlimited attempts; going to tutoring is a must. Answers to video quizzes are in the pdf. All tests except final online, but final is 25% of grade.
Jay was hands down the best professor I've had at ASU. He cares so much about his students and he truly wants everyone to succeed. If you ever have questions you can always reach out to him for help. He is a quirky guy, which makes for entertaining lectures. If you have the opportunity to take him for any math class, do it.
Best math teacher at ASU period. You can tell he really cares about his students. I have never taken a calc class before and was fully expecting to be lucky to get a C, but I managed to get a B- because of the teaching skills of Jay. He's really kind and respecting to all of his students, just make sure you go to class.
Probably the best math teacher at ASU! I took the hybrid, which by the way is amazing! Tests are all online and you can use your notes. It's math, so obviously there's homework, but it prepares you for the final. Final is in person, but it was very easy and it was exactly what he said it was going to be. At all costs, get him as your math teacher!
I have never met a teacher better. Calculus is hard and I actually learned it! Wish I could take every class from him. I took the online class that meets once a week and has online homework and tests that you do with notes without a webcam. The final is in person but not terrible.
Abramson is AWESOME! Best prof ever: explains concepts clearly & simply, provides tidy, color-coded notes, tells you exactly what will be on the exams. Also genuinely cares about his students & is always willing to answer Qs. HW & tests are tough, but doable. Go to tutoring, and make flashcards to study for exams - I got 100 on two exams doing this
Overall amazing guy, really wants to see his students pass. Every class there is a daily quiz worth 20 points that you can collab with the class, 2 video quizzes, and 2 homework assignments. Super easy work load and he makes the lessons clear and easy to understand.
Professor Abramson was great! Most of the class is easy points and the tests are online and open note! Gives great examples in lecture and explains everything very clearly. Final is exactly what he tells you it will be; do the review and you'll do well. As someone who almost failed algebra in high school, I was able to receive in A in his class.
I took his hybrid class. He posts videos online that you can watch and then does an overview in class with a pop-quiz after EVERY class. The class was simple and well-instructed. Make sure you attend class and take down careful notes. I liked that he color-coded the life out of the notes. Exams are online and can refer to notes. Study the WebAssign
Jay is an amazing professor who cares about his students. He lays out material in the clearest way possible. As long as you attend classes, passing is inevitable, and you have a good shot at getting a decent grade.
Just take his class, whatever it may be for you. He is the best Math professor at ASU, you won't regret it. I took his 6 week course in the summer, and while very fast paced due to the 6 weeks, he made it impossible to fail. Excellent guy, and you'll actually retain the information.
Great professor! I took the hybrid class, so every week there's a video for each chapter, plus homework on it after the lecture. If you need to hear the information many times to understand it, this class is perfect.
Normally I am descriptive with my professors reviews, but with Jay I don't need to be-- just take him. seriously. save your time on deciding. IF HE IS A CHOICE FOR ONE OF YOUR CLASSES, TAKE HIM. That's it. Clear lectures, loads of extra supplemental material if you need it, great guy. Thank me later.
This professor had really good lectures, he was engaged in the material and explained the content well. I took this class as a hybrid and I would definitely recommend it. The video quizzes were easy, the homework was all online, as well as the exams except for the final. Overall a very doable class.
I am the absolute opposite of a math person, and this class is definitely tough but if you are willing to at least try you are guaranteed to pass. He's super nice and willing to help, and even rounded my grade to a B.
Best math professor I've had at ASU. Jay is really chill and passionate about math. Going to class is really important because if you don't understand something, then he will help you get it. I'm the type of student who learns best this way and with a hands-on approach and Jay is great for that. I wish more math teachers were like him.
Professor Abramson is outstanding. He definitely cares and knows the material. Gives good notes, and color-coats for convenience. He is good about explaining the material, and allows for open-note tests through Webassign (hybrid class). Homework is easy and he prepares you very well for each examination. Take him at all costs.
He really does care about his students. I took a hybrid version, so we only met once a week. I had to attend each class meeting because we would do "quizzes" (you can work with people) and the rest was online, and I liked this set up.
I LOVE JAY! He is so cool and nice. He really cares about the success of his students. I was not that good at math in high school but I actually learned a lot from his class. I took him for 210 and 211. He is the best!
Jay was the best teacher ever!! if you have the option take him. All homework on webassign, 2 tests taken online and a final in person. His notes are color coded which is helpful. If you pay attention and go to class you will do well. Don't miss class because there are daily quizzes you take everyday( which you can do with people. )
If you've watched the MAT 170 videos - He is that professor. Jay is very good at teaching MAT 210, and the coursework is very manageable. I plan on taking him in the Spring for MAT 211. I failed MAT210 with another professor, but have an A in his class.
Two words... take him.
Amazing Professor! Makes math more understandable. With his lectures, the online lessons, and help from the tutoring center even a math-challenged student like me can learn the material. I liked taking the tests online because I had time to work through things. I got really anxious during the in-person final so make sure you are prepared for that.
Best professor at ASU hands down, no one can beat him on how he engages the students into actually liking math and understanding it. Color codes, video lectures (optional), and the lecture in class itself are extremely easy to understand and he does it at a slow pace that you can progress everything. 2 exams online and one in-class final.
Jay Abramson is by far the best professor I have had over the course of my college career. I took MAT 210 with him as well. He genuinely cares about his students and can explain calculus in a way that makes it extremely easy to understand. I take his 7:30 AM class and it is so worth it to go just to have a great professor.
People regard him as one of the best professors at ASU. He's a good professor, and I hadn't had many phenomenal math teachers - but I think he is overrated. Moves extremely quickly yet thoroughly, I do recommend him but only if you're able to really focus every class session.
I took the MAT 211 hybrid course this semester and absolutely loved Jay - he's hilarious. There are homework assignments and quizzes due every Monday night, but if you get them done 24 hrs in advance you get extra credit. All tests are online except for the final. There is an in-class quiz every day, so attendance is mandatory if you want a good gr
Took Abramson for 210 & 211 as hybrid classes and have nothing but great things to say about the guy. Truly wants his students to succeed and will prepare you to do so. Important to not miss a lecture though because he gives a daily "quiz" each week. Super organized and gives amazing color-coded notes.
On a personal level, he is a good guy. However, I don't think he realizes that many people aren't born knowing Calculus. This is my first time EVER taking it, and he goes entirely too quick for me to grasp anything. He basically just rewrites his notes on the overhead projector and fails to really teach much. Very difficult.
Honestly Professor Jay is the best math professor I've ever had. I had him for a summer program and he's extremely caring, does his best to make lectures interesting while interacting with his students at the same time. Whatever you need, he'll always be there to help you in any way. (Remember class might be challenging in some ways so work hard).
Very very clear and straightforward. He provided very good examples in class.
Always nice and welcoming in class. He did go through things quickly, but if you had a question, he would stop to clarify for you. The work was pretty easy and went along with the notes that we took in class.
He is a good teacher. A little fast at first, but over the semester you get used to it. There are daily quizzes but they are easy cause you get to use notes and work with others. Do yourself a favor and bring a pack of highlighters to class because he likes to color code notes, and they're really helpful to look back on when doing HW.
Took him for 210 & 211. Best math prof. Since it is a hybrid class there is a quiz every class, open note, and open to discuss with students. Around 2-3 weekly hw's that can be found on Chegg. First 2 tests are open note, not proctored. He hints at questions that will be on final, STAR THOSE. Then study those questions before final! YOU WILL PASS.
LOVE him. You dont need to understand any math the whole semester. You can use calculators for all the homework and first exams. For the final, you need to learn some stuff that hes very specific about. You have to go to class. He gives amazing notes. I took him for 211 and 210. So great.
I loved his class. His notes are extremely organized and color coded. If you attend lectures and take notes, then the tests and homework are extremely easy. The only downside is that there is a daily quiz at the end of every class period.
Jay is a real Mensch! His teaching is very clear and straightforward. His classes are actually enjoyable. Mind tap homework can be challenging but he is very fair on tests. He gives out excellent study guides and responds to emails fast. Never gets mad and will take time out of class to answer questions. Awesome teacher!!!
He will make sure you know the concept. His lectures are enjoyable and noteworthy. He really likes colored pens and just appreciates pretty noted in general (no extra credit, just fun fact). His videos are also available online if you miss anything or need to study.
He's a very good teacher, he is very passionate about math. I love all of his sasquatch t shirts he wears. It's a hard class but he wants you to succeed.
The professor makes the contents become easy for students to understand. I would take him again if I could.
I took him online so I can't speak to how he is in person, but he gets back to you very quickly via piazza and has very thorough lectures. He gives you very little time to complete homework/study for exams at the end of the semester, but it's not too bad. Five exams, three open book, two are proctored. You get two attempts for every exam.
I had several issues this past semester that were completely unexpected. As of the last one, Jay wouldn't extend a test for me when the system had some kind of glitch. Luckily ASU was willing to let me withdraw even though it was past the date.
Have you ever drank 2 energy drinks back to back? You're going to need to if you want to pass his class. This guy moves so fast that he rushes someone when they ask for help. If you are able to learn math quickly you'll be fine, if not, you'll want to drive to class without your seatbelt on-- like me. All exams except the last one were easy.
Jay is a laid back, cool guy. He really does care about the success of his students. You won't learn much from the prerecorded lecture videos but once he explains it in lecture, it'll click for you. Everything is unlocked in the course so you can work ahead. Will definitely be taking him for 211.
Professor Abramson is amazing! Calc can be confusing, but his notes and lecture videos are organized in a way that makes it so much easier to follow. He's a down to earth friendly guy, and if you don't understand something he's more than willing to help out during office hours. I highly recommend Jay, especially if Calc is required for your degree.
This is a very fast paced class covering 2-3 concepts per week. All assignments and tests were through WebAssign (Cengage). He had a lecture each week which he recorded. You literally just watch him go through his notes on Canvas. Tests are usually around 20 questions and mirror the study guide he gives you. Be prepared to study.
DON'T LISTEN TO ANY OTHER POSTS!!! He is the worst professor I've ever had; I don't know how he still has a job. Belittled and stereotyped me when I asked for help with my grades. Had to buy the textbook twice. Class is horribly structured; it's easy to miss assignments. 3 exams and participation for each class. Had to take a Y grade and got 71.02%
I took the hybrid class which only had lectures once a week for 75 minutes and I wouldn't recommend it tbh. He went INCREDIBLY fast through each lecture, didn't want students to use the chat for actual questions, and when I emailed him asking for extra math help he basically told me he can't help me. If you're a slow learner, do NOT take this class
One of the best Math teachers at ASU. Gives insanely detailed notes that are similar to tests and homework. In-class "daily check" quizzes every class period but are only like 3-5 problems. Homework can be tough but his notes help so much. Really caring outside of class and available to help. Uses respondus for exams but you're got time.
ABRAMSON IS THE BEST! I've always had a hard time with math, but Abramson made MAT 210 and 211 easy. His class is very routine with notes available to copy before class, a very thorough lecture (he color codes a lot!), and a daily quiz at the end of his lectures. Tests are just like the problems from the notes. 10/10 Prof!!
Calculus is not an easy class. He does the best that he can to make the material easy to understand. To be successful, you will have to work outside of class, but the workload is not heavy. I can not stress how outstanding this professor is! He is available for his students and has resources outside of his lectures. If you struggle, TAKE HIM!
Definitely do NOT take this class unless you are able to commit at least five days a week to class work/tests. This is one of the hardest classes Ive ever taken. The professor is a really nice guy and he tries very hard to help you in any way that he can, but there are no assignment extensions and theres a participation grade for an ONLINE class.
Had Jay for 210 & 211... he's the best it's going to get in the ASU math department! Weekly quizzes & HWs, 2 midterms, 1 final. Pros: he's consistent, structures class in a way where the expectations are clear from day 1! Cons: this course operates at lightning speed so pay attention - also tests are heavily weighted when calculating grades.
Jay is a very kind man. The course is a challenge, and requires a ton of time. His lecture videos are not that helpful, so be prepared to teach yourself. He is very prompt about responding to emails.
Dr. Abramson is an amazing professor. He makes math lectures engaging, even at 7:30am! His tests closely match the homework so will pass the test if you do the homework. He likes to crack jokes and explains concepts in interesting ways that allow you to understand why a concept works rather than just how to get an answer. Take good notes!
I had his internet hybrid class. I went one day a week, the rest was online. He is clear and concise, if you go to his class, you will pass. Because it was hybrid, he also had lots of video reviews online that you could watch if anything was unclear. I have a difficult time with math but, he always made his lessons very clear. 10/10 would recommend
jay teaches at the speed of sound. if you're a slower learner, do not take this class. it was fine for the most part, but every time i went to class it felt like i walked into an upper division course for a language i didn't understand. he's nice enough but he doesn't bend the rules for anyone. don't expect extensions or accommodations.
He does not care about his student's and made you feel stupid when asking for help. The only good thing about his class is the homework. Otherwise, he does not teach during class he just puts notes up and expects you to retain it all by the end of class and his final review is absolutely awful some of the problems don't even have examples.
Pros: all his work on WebAssign and exams 1& 2 His final is in-person last chapters only. and all the final was from his review study guide only, so just study it hard and you will be fine. Cons: I did not like teaching through written notes instead of writing on board. However, he will provide great video lessons on Canvas.
This professor was great. He really cares and understands when someone gets sick. He makes class exciting and worth showing up. I would definitely take him as a teacher again!
Prof Abramson is a good option for math 210. He gives great lectures and is very open for office hours. The class is hybrid, meaning you meet once a week and all assignments are turned in online through WebAssign aside from the final exam which takes place in-person during finals.
Nice guy, but not a good class structure. You watch the video lessons on his canvas page and he covers the notes in class. You meet once a week in person, attendance is mandatory. 3 exams total, 2 of them online, and the third exam in person. Learned almost EVERYTHING on my own. Only got an A because his coursework is easier than other teachers.
I would not listen to any negative reviews. Although he goes fast in lecture, he repeats almost everything, points out exactly where he's at, and answers any question with kindness. Tests are EXACTLY like the example problems in class, and the homework is unlimited attempts. He makes math interesting and has a great teaching style.
He teaches super fast, I'm only taking him again because all of the tests except for the final are online. If you struggle with math, get ready to go to the tutoring center constantly and do so much work out of class, and that didn't even save me. He is not good at communication. He paces in class which is super distracting when lecturing.
I loved Professor Abramson. His lectures were really fast, so you have to create the notes before you go to class in order to actually pay attention to what he is saying. This was a hybrid course, so we only met up once a week. We had easy daily quizzes and the exams were questions from the homework. There are 2 midterm exams and one final exam.
Abramson is a great professor and makes it very easy to succeed in this class. He provides examples where both the homework and test questions are exactly like the examples, just with different numbers. He makes it clear about what to expect on the tests. I suggest trying the homework before class because his lectures move fast.
If you are taking MAT 211 online, be prepared to teach yourself half of the course. His lectures on probability use different formulas than what you see during the homework and exams, and you will spend 20 hours a week doing practice problems that do not count towards your grade. That being said the exams are way easier than the practice problems.
I'm taking MAT211 online through ASU & I WISH I could choose someone, ANYONE else to be the lecturer. He is the ONLY "teacher" despite me choosing a different "professor" every time I've taken it. The lectures have little to nothing to do with the homework. The formulas & tables are totally different than on the homework. I hate every minute.
Jay Abramson is one of the greatest math teachers I have ever had. Some people don't like his style, but he makes the material as efficient to learn as it can be.
amazing professor, so so caring and understanding. Get ready to take notes and retain info quickly, but he makes this doable.
You can tell he really loves teaching and cares for his students. He wants you to succeed and is willing to inconvenience himself to help you out. His lectures are fast paced, but all class note are on Canvas. Watch the videos and take notes in class and you'll do great!
This professor did a stellar job at teaching what can be tough material. Lectures were fast paced but very easy to understand, I never felt that my time was being wasted while in class. Small quiz at the end of each class but you are encouraged to talk to your neighbors for help and I really feel like they are meant to increase comprehension.
Jay is a probably the Best Math Professor at ASU, If you get the Chance to take him do it.
In every lecture, Jay thoroughly explains the sections he is teaching and points out which examples are in the weekly daily, exams, HW, and final. He is more than open to helping you out with anything you're confused with!
Jay is literally the GOAT. He's very caring, fun to talk to, and wastes no time. His lectures are straight forward and easy to understand; however I would recommend printing out the papers to the lesson before the lecture because he goes through a lot of material. Tests are also exactly as he says.
Abramson is a great professor, if you have a chance to take his class, take it. Lectures move really quick but all of his notes are available on canvas from the start of the semester, so look at his notes before class. Questions on the exams are identical to the homework. MAT 210 can be a tough class but he does a great job explaining everything.
While there are online lectures, in-person lectures go through everything you will see on homework and on tests. He is very clear with expectations and what problems will be on future assignments. Try not to miss class, he has daily quizzes which are worth a fair portion of your grade. A great class and a great professor.
He is incredibly purposeful. Everything you need to know for exams, homework, and the final will be explained. When he says write your note and try out the homework before class, DO IT!(it will save your life if you struggle with math) note are liquid gold, if your stuck on anything it's in the notes.
Jay is a sweetheart, he really cares about the success of students. He has the mad scientist vibe and while I could not follow the lectures for the life of me, the entire course has pre-recorded videos you watch before class with unlimited attempts on homework. Mandatory attendance and in-class quizzes. 10/10 would take this class!
I took a hybrid class - you need to teach yourself and come prepared as Jay goes over the lessons quickly. However, he provides lecture videos and other resources for you to learn. There are daily assignments that can be discussed with other classmates and even the TA will check it before submitting. There are homework assignments and three exams.
I can say with absolute confidence Professor Abramson is the best math professor at ASU. If you have the option to take his class, take it, no matter what day or time, take it. I would not be able to pass Calculus 210 or Calculus in general if I wasn't in his class. He walks you through everything in a clear and concise manner.
I am not kidding when i tell you Jay is the best math professor here at ASU. Math is my worse subject, but jay is the only reason why i did so good in this class. He teaches in a way that makes everyone understand and he tells you exactly what is on the tests. As long as you go to the class and pay attention, its an easy A. Definitely take it!!
I highly recommend Jay Abramson as your MAT210 professor. Calculus is a different language for me and I still passed first try
AMAZING GUY! great at lectures and he will make sure you walk away understanding every last thing. I couldn't have had a better math teacher.
Exams are easy cause they are online and not on lockdown browser! Nice guy
Such a great guy! Took him for 210 and 211 as hybrid courses. He is the Prof you want at ASU! Hoping to TA for him next year
This man is a legend. The absolute goat. If you have the opportunity to take him make sure you do. One in a million no joke.
A professor that really stood out to me in college. His way of teaching was awesome.
Professor Abramson is the GOAT of math. His lectures are super clear, and as long as you attend class and use resources like the free textbook and unstuckstudy, you'll nail the exams. It's a tough class, but totally doable with his guidance.
It seems like his course has changed a lot from the last ratings. The exams ARE proctored - unlike other ratings say. He does not use any of his own material. He does not care about anything else going on in your life, so be aware he does not provide extensions. Changed due date and lied about it despite proof of time stamps.
I have never rated a professor before, but Jay was the absolute best. I had not taken a math class in over 10 years and Jay made it super easy to comprehend. He responds quickly, he's funny and shows respect for his students. Really understands the material and loves what he does. Would take him again in a heartbeat, no doubt about it.
This was a pretty hard class, but it wasn't so bad. Basically you are teaching yourself everything. There are 3 assignments and 1 quiz each week, there are 3 exams total, one of which is the final exam. NO multiple choice, all proctored (webcam/honor lock) exams. Everything else has unlimited attempts. 70% of the grades is exam, 30% is assignments.
Everytime a student decides to not take his class, an angel cries in Heaven. This guy made math so comprehensible. I don't think I'll have the privilege of having another professor as commendable as him. Took his last semester and felt like I needed to come back and leave a review. Didn't know how good I had it.
I do not recommend taking this course. Even though I received an A, this professor has no idea what he is doing and most of the material isn't even his. He sends out incorrect dates and the course is just a complete mess. One of the worst professors I have ever encountered.
This professor is actually really nice and responsive. Unfortunately I had to drop calculus because of work and life. He answered every email, and cares about students.
One of the best math instructors I've ever had, he made Calc 1 actually enjoyable. Great lectures and always would have a Zoom meeting to review before exams. Gave extra credit if homework was turned in early.
I feel cheated by these good reviews. I'm not sure what everyone is seeing in him. He doesn't care. Everything is done on Pearson. The amount of work will make you want to die and none of it's for credit. 3 exams are ALL that matter. No curve. & Honorlock with zero notes. I wouldn't recommend the other Math 211 teacher either though, so good luck.
He doesnt offer any extensions at all and he just seems to not care. exam reviews are rushed and he doesnt take questions during. Youre essentially learning everything on your own and the test material covers stuff thats different or more difficult than what youre told to study. exams are also proctored with no notes so good luck
This was an online class, so it relied heavily on making sure you understood the homework assignments and practiced a lot as you would with any other math class. Abramson's review videos and practice tests will pretty much show a version of everything on the tests, which was a HUGE help.
Best professor I've ever had! I failed calc 1 the first time but taking it with him the second time helped me actually understand and enjoy calc. Very helpful outside of class and loved his exam review.
Plan to spend a lot of hours watching videos and doing homework. Course is heavily weighted towards tests. Good: Online review before each test and several practice exams. You have a chance to correct missed questions on the test (a lifesaver!). Bad: 20% of the questions on tests not covered in reviews or practice exams. He seems to care, though.
Great professor. Quickly responds to any questions and is very helpful each week with reviews.
Pretty fast paced but explains concepts very clearly. He seems intimidating at first but very goofy and caring guy. Homework is very manageable and relates directly to lectures. He gives you exactly what you need to succeed, nothing more nothing less. Tests can be hard, but his reviews are exactly like the test. Study the hw and you'll be fine
Jay made me actually want to show up to class everyday and I actually began to enjoy Calculus. If I had studied more I would've easily gotten a B+ or higher. His office hours conflicted with my class schedule and he was more than happy to meet with me outside of his scheduled hours for me to complete a missed quiz due to an appointment.
Professor Abramson is a great math professor—super clear, helpful, and a really good guy. Take good notes and review his in-class examples; they help a lot on homework and exams. He explains concepts well and truly wants students to succeed. Highly recommend!
This was a difficult class but Dr. Abramson was genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are very easy to understand and follow, I felt like I actually learned during lecture. He is also very caring, gives every question a lot of attention and explains clearly. You can tell he wants his students to learn and do well.
Jay is quite funny and energetic, he lectures quickly so review material beforehand. He is always willing to answer questions inside or outside class. Daily quizzes are given after every lecture (very simple), just pay attention and take good notes to help guide you. Try and do homework early for extra credit! He always provides solid exam review.
