Kinda boring but real easy
boring b/c it is an hour 15min class
SO boring, but I got an A and hardly ever went to class. Decent man. Very helpful.
Very cool guy. Physics sucks, but he made it about as good as it could be
Interesting class...really easy. If you suck at math IT'S OKAY!!!
Easy class. Nice guy. Online HW once a week, weekly labs that you do on your own. He tries to make physics fun. Does get boring sometimes but he has occasional in class reading quizzes and occasionally takes attendance
Cool guy. Easy class. I recommend him
This professor is so awesome. The class is relatively easy. The focus of the course is the lectures, online quizzes, and the labs. Tests are easy and don't require studying. I got an A, and its PHYSICS!
Boring subject, but Jay makes it not so terrible. He's a cool guy, and likes to make it interesting. He's also clear about what he expects & is willing to help you out if you're having trouble w/the material.
The class is really boring, and there is a lot of reading but its not necessary. There are a lot of points given out, and he is really helpful when you need it.
Class has a lot of reading - and occasional reading quizzes worth 10% of your grade over the reading. Not too difficult for a physics class - emphasis on astronomy - but definitely not a piece of cake. Lots of opportunities for extra points are given, but still need to work for an A. Takes him forever to post grades!
Awesome teacher. Awesome for individual help, does whatever he can to make sure you learn the material. Makes the class really fun and interesting. As long as you take good notes you can ace tests. Homework quizes are rare. Do what you can to get in his class!
awesome teacher, knows how to make you understand things, homework is majority of your grade but is somewhat hard - doesnt go over examples in class, but uses mallard, so it makes it a little better, really nice guy, i would reccommend to all! doesnt really teach out out of the book, i wouldnt buy it if i could go back
hes really cool. He makes class interesting. The labs are SO easy. He doesnt get real technical on tests. He basically just wants you to know the basics. Hes very easy
He was cool...seemed kinda like a hippie at times..which I was totally cool with..he really tried to relate with the students.
He's a really nice hippie-esque teacher. His tests are ridiculously easy, but you have to go to class and lab to earn your grade.
Because it's physics, it's hard. I HIGHLY recommend attenting class, it'll help you a lot of the tests. The textbooks weren't very helpful. He explains things very well and knows what he's talking about. Watch out for the homework assignments, they make no sense.
If you aren't good at physics, you need to go with Dr. Jay! He makes it easier. Go to class and labs and do the homework. He's awesome!
I haven't had him for that long (my previous physics teacher resigned; he's our new teacher) but in 2 weeks he has already taught me more than my previous teacher. He's friendly, accomadating, and interesting. He gives examples that are easy to relate to and stays on your level..he doesn't act like he's greater than you because he's a professor.
Never went over anything that was on the test.
I would definetly recommend this professor. He definetly was a stoner back in the day but he is an awesome teacher. He uses a lot of demonstrations in class which makes it interesting. The hw is almost impossible but if you go to his office hours he gives you all of the answers and hw is 25% of your grade. Great teacher, definetly recommend him
dont take the T Th, the lectures are long and boring. He's a cool guy and he's enthusiastic about his class. but the homework is 30% of the grade and IMPOSSIBLE, I took it to the tutor, and they couldn't figure it out. if your bad at math expect alot of office hour time with him.
Awesome professor!
Great professor! Lectures drag a little but the class is easy! I recommend getting a group together for the homework assignments to make them easier. But overall Dr. J is a nice, easy-going guy.
cool guy, very helpful. when he answers questions he explains more than needed.
He is very enthusiastic and knows his stuff! Has a good sense of humor and doesnt take himself or his class too seriously. Do the homework. Reading the textbook isnt necessary if you listen to his lectures or read the powerpoints he posts online. Super nice and very willing to help students during office hours or appointments.
Dr. Jay will probably go down as one of the best teachers I will ever have at ISU, and I had him for my first semester freshman year. He's THAT awesome. He makes class as interesting as he can, and easy too. The final was a breeze. I had no love for Physics coming into this class, but we have to take 2 science courses so TAKE HIM!!!
Awesome teacher, one of the best i have ever had. The homework is extremely difficult, but if you listen in class the tests are easy.
Homework sucks!! Its worth 40% of your grade it its hard and it sucks. And I wish he woulda showed more videos, like the stuff he explained with power point could have been done a lot easier by showing us a video of "The Universe" on the history channel, or the new Stephen Hawkings show in discovery. But hes still a nice guy and a decent teacher.
Awesome teacher! Don't blow off the homework, it can make or break your grade. Class is very easy to get a good grade in.
This class is pretty boring but as long as you show up to class to answer the clicker questions, do the homework and the labs, and skim the readings for the in-class quizzes, you will be fine. You talk more about astronomy than physics though.
Awesome teacher!!! He is very helpful. I came into office hours all the time. The class is easy, but you have to attend class. He has homework assignments and quizzes and tests so you have lots of opportunities to get a good grade. He gives out book quizzes so you have to read the material.
Interactive teacher, not at all boring. Brings in displays of the material once in a while, which keeps the whole class (of about 150) entertained.
Awesome teacher. Very down-to-earth and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Definitely need to do all the labs, homework, etc. Mostly Physics rather than Astronomy.
Great teacher. Made physics interesting (which most people can't do). he cares about what you have to say and is always there to help!
really nice and helpful
Dr. Jay is the man. The tests are really easy as long as you look at the study guide. Definitely skim the reading because the random in class quizzes are 10% of your grade and can hurt you if you have a low percentage. Just go to class, do the homework, labs, etc and you'll be fine
He's awesome! Very, very helpful! Some parts of the class are challenging but he'll help you through. He makes physics interesting. Definitely take him!
Great teacher. Always willing to help. Uses multiple teaching methods so that everyone can learn it their own way.
I never took Physics prior to this class and I was nervous to take it. I did very well though thanks to Ansher! He explains the material very well and always answers whatever questions you have. The hardest part of the class is the online homework but you have a couple chances to change your grade. I got a B because of the reading quizzes in class.
He is an extremely helpful teacher!! Sometimes the homework is hard and but if you go to office hours he will walk you through the problem! The tests are a little difficult, but there is no math. He has said that he understands we don't want to be scientists/don't like science so he doesnt go too hard on you.
TAKE HIM! best teacher in the field everyone will tell you not to take physics because its so hard but he is so easy and really makes his lectures fun and enjoyable!
Probably the easiest teacher at ISU. If you have never taken physics, don't be afraid to take him. I haven't paid attention at all and, for instance, got a 100% on his last test. I do have a pretty extensive knowledge prior in physic though, so that may have contributed. TAKE HIM!!!
He's a very easy teacher. Goes over material very well. Encourages people to come in if they are having trouble. I had some prior physics knowledge, but not a hard class at all!
He is a really nice teacher and pretty easy if you put forth a little effort. I went to class and he explains things well. But he also puts all the powerpoints up after each week. It is a great option for a gened. I'd recommend him!
Honestly, one of the coolest teachers i've ever had. some of his homework is hard, but it is totally worth it to have him as a teacher! He makes class a ton of fun and i would definitely take his class again if i could!
Its obvious that physics and astronomy are his passions. He genuinely wants the students to learn and love physics as much as he does. He is willing to meet with students outside of class on a regular basis and is very clear, helpful, and knowledgeable. The homework will challenge you, but the class is not that difficult overall.
The class is pretty straight forward. He has it set up so tests don't count for too much of your grade. Labs are pretty good too, but the online homework can be a bit difficult. As long as you do what you are supposed to and ask him for help, you will be fine. FYI-He will lecture until the very last minute of class, which is extremely annoying.
He tends to ramble on and on and then he speeds up and tries to quickly get through the ends of the power points. Labs have extremely vague instructions and were graded like we were Physics majors. He was nice about it though and would help you out with something if you needed it. Overall not too difficult of a class, just extremely annoying.
He was a pretty decent teacher and the class was relatively easy and he gives a lot of extra credit however some of the homework is extremely difficult
He is the best teacher I have had. He is a very nice guy. Homework is a little hard, but he is always willing to help you with it. There are extra credit opportunities. I do not like physics, but I would definitely recommend taking this class only if you have him as a teacher. If I could I would take another class with him.
Dr. Ansher takes a boring subject and makes it interesting. The homework can be a little erratic. The same can be said of the reading quizzes. Overall a good choice if you are taking Physics.
Jay is a really nice guys but lecture is REALLY BORING. He is actually really funny but he never jokes around when he starts lecturing. Fairly simple class and Ansher is always available if you need extra help.
Awesome dude, boring as S#it. Easy B, I got an A by putting in a little extra time studying.
Very helpful! Nice guy! Talks a lot but overall he's a very good teacher.
This class was really easy! You have to attend class because there is participation points using clickers, but the tests were easy and straight from the lectures. The labs were also very straight forward and not hard at all. He is will to help out and is super nice and wants his students to learn. strongly recommend!!
Dr. Jay is the most chill professor I have ever had. He is always there to clarify something and overall a very friendly man.
Class seems to last forever. Its an easy class if you just read and show up
I think It was just the class, but I could be wrong. Dr. Jay was a cool guy, I really liked him, but the class was insane. A lot of stuff covered in one semester, almost too much. It was very hard. I wouldn't suggest the class for a gen ed. He was cool, the class, not so much.
Very respectful and cool dude. I got an 87 overall in the class and he bumped me to an A. The difficulty of the course increases exponentially toward the end of the semester so get ready to work! I love space and cosmology which helped me get through this course. No lab plus I never bought the textbook.
My favorite professor. Always willing to help me after class. Great guy. The daily readings aren't too bad and you actually learn a lot. Pretty easy A.
Dr Jay was a great professor who knew what he was teaching. Better yet, he knew how to teach. All of his power points were relevant for the test, and he was very clear on the topic. Tests were based on lectures too. He also recognized that PHYS 102 is an elective for most people, so he never got too strict. In all, he is a great professor.
Homework is online you get five attempts at passing it though with feedback. Two exams plus the final. Labs aren't very difficult either.
Took this class last semester and was glad I did. He made lectures interesting and fresh and always offers to help you out. You get five attempts at the homework. Pop quizzes were not that bad. Usually offers extra credit throughout the year. The labs are not that bad as long as you read the instructions. Overall, take him!
Really cares for you and for the subject. Super nice guy. Sometimes got a little wordy which took me off track, but he is a great guy. The class is interesting for the most part as a whole.
I would not say the class is easy, however Dr. Jay will help you along the way. Always went the extra mile to help students. Even had a 3 hour long study session for the final and with pizza. You gotta put it in some work, but by no means too much.
Dr. J is very nice and caring. His classes are very lecture heavy, but he does a nice job at keeping them entertaining. There are 2 tests and a final. The homework is pretty easy (get 5 tries and its online). Labs are easy as well. He drops the lowest lab, hw, and reading quiz scores which helps a lot. Good class, but you have to work for a B.
Very, very lecture orientated. He is a very nice and respected man, just the lectures can get very boring. Reading the textbooks are mandatory as he gives random reading quizzes. I thought the class was kinda hard sometimes, but not the worst.
Dr. Jay is an excellent, intelligent professor that has a fun sense of humor! :) He makes lectures exciting by doing cool demonstrations to make the lessons come alive. The tests were pretty challenging, but you learn a lot and he is always happy to help his students. Before each test he has an optional review session where you can ask questions.
Prof Jay has been my fav teacher at ISU. He's been the only teacher I've had who truly cares about his students and how busy a student's schedule can be. Not only is he a great teacher but this class was interesting and I learned a lot. I haven't enjoyed any classes at ISU but I loved this class. If you get the chance def take with prof jay!
I took physics during the 8 week summer course, it was very fast paced. The material was pretty boring. Homework was tough and tests but the final was easier. He offers a lot of participation points and drops your lowest lab and homework score! Physics isnt fun but jay is a good professor.
Look. Physics can suck. It's a hard class. But Jay is one of the most supportive, kindest professors on campus. I took him last spring and I was having a really hard time in life, and he not only cut me some slack, but made a genuine effort to connect with me. If you're required to take physics, take it with him!!
Great teacher, but class was kind of boring during covid. a week consisted of a lab and a homework. homework suck as he never explains how to do the problems. often find myself working on it with 30 other people as we are all confused. Tests aren't too bad but you defiantly need to study for them. Class feels harder then it really needs to be.
he accepts late work for up to a work and the equations are always posted on each test so it isnt that bad, you can tell he really values his job and appreciates when students participate. the homework was really hard and i got pretty bad grades on them but theres a lot of fluff work so i was able to keep a B
dr. jay is one of my favorite professors ibe had. he cares about his students. his lectures help a lot and he also provides a decent amount of extra credit assignments. this class was an easy a for me.
Very middle of the road professor to me. He gets the job done, he is knowledgeable and passionate about physics. His lectures aren't super interesting, and there are pop quizzes. He makes you purchases two books for his class which you can 100% take the class without.
Good professor, but very easy to fall behind in the class. The lectures are a bit slow but contain a lot of information.
My favorite professor this semester. Super approachable, makes lectures pretty interesting but there is a lot of fluff included. Nearpod participation questions every day and pop quiz reading assignments that are easy even if you don't do the reading. Super caring and a good soul.
Dr. Jay is a very knowledgeable and approachable professor. His lectures can feel long. There are pop quizzes and graded participation, but they're easy points. He tells you what'll be on the test and provides study guides. He also does some live demonstrations of the content which is fun. The labs can feel pointless but they're easy grade boosts.
He is super nice and you can tell he cares a lot about his students. He offers more than enough help and also offers extra credit. He is always willing to sit down and explain something if you are confused. He is so fun too, good vibes.
professor ansher has a great personality, but is hard to follow in lectures sometimes. the reading and homework are sometimes hard to grasp and labs are required every week. I personally don't like science so I didn't necessarily enjoy this class but he is approachable. attendance is mandatory with pop quizzes and points
Easy to get a good grade if you put in the work. Show up to class because he does do pop quizzes, but they're easy. The content is based on lectures but he posts the slides, so you can catch up if you miss something. Buy the cartoon guide textbook if you're actually going to read it, but not the other one, it's not worth it.
He has pop quizzes, but other than that he's really easy, and you can have your phone out. Don't bother buying the second textbook, only the cartoon one. Everything on the tests are on the lectures, if you can memorize and are willing to, you should have no issues.
Dr. Jay was a very easy going professor. He kept things real and fair within the class. He encourages students to go to his office hours for help. He was super helpful. Don't stress about his pop quizzes, he uses them to gauge how well he's teaching. I liked his physics demonstrations. Lecture notes didn't always match the exams though.
the dude was buns and his class was mid and I would not take again
He's a helpful and caring professor, and a forgiving grader. Lectures are very hard to follow though and I often did most of my learning outside of class. I feel that whether you succeed in this class depends on if you find physics interesting, which I unfortunately don't. I'm at least glad I got him as a professor.
