He's funny. He's sometimes unclear in his points during lectures.
Means well, but that doesn't help us who are history majors. Needs to be more focused and clear about his topics. Students need to read assignments before coming to class, otherwide they will get lost in fuzzy presentations.
Great Class, I would recommend it

His lectures are very scattered and he goes off topic a lot. Spends a lot of time on stuff he doesn't test about like Lewis and Clark (he's obsessed with them). His tests are beastly (3 hours). There's a lot of reading to do and the questions are specific like, "Who wrote this useless passage?"
While the class can be hard and unclear at times, if you take to him then he goes out of his way to help you get back on track. very nice and very helpful!
not really excietd about the class, but heard he was a good teacher..and he was great! he's nice and he's funny, and his tests are a little long he gives you a study guide. I LOVE him as a teacher. and he's a very nice man too.
Lectures can get pretty boring, but Dr. Buckley knows his stuff. He tries to make it interesting. His focus is on Western US history and Native Americans, so be prepared for a lot of that information. A lot of reading. I did well... it is easy to get an A-.
I enjoyed Buckley's class, organized with powerpoint outlines, you know what you need to know for the test. There is a term paper, and the normal reading for a history class. Incorporates more than just lectures. Get a study group in the beginning of the class and you'll do great.
Yuck. I took it in the Spring and had two and a half hour lectures at 8:00AM. Probably the worst experience of my life. He's a good guy but I hated the class and the TA was terrible.
Buckley is a very nice man but he is also very scattered and a bit disorganized. I never paid attention in lecture because they were so random and he is very difficult to follow. He doesn't teach the material well and it's hard to know what he wants sometimes. I hate to be rude because he is so nice but I don't think you should take his classes.
If you are a history buff, you will like Buckley's class. The course organization is good despite other's comments. He emphasizes the west so you must have an interest to enjoy the content. If you do the work, including readings, and form a study group you will do well in the class. He also has guest lecturers and films.
Dr. Buckley is a great professor. He cares a lot about his students and is willing to help.
Best class I've ever had at BYU. Fantastic subject, and Dr. Buckley is awesome--very knowledgeable and loves to share his interests with his students. The lectures were always very good. The book and film analysis instructions were a little ambiguous so it was difficult to do well on them, but otherwise it was a fair class.
Dr. Buckley is awesome. His lectures are mostly interesting, and he is always willing to do something corny to wake everyone up. Some unclear instructions on the film and book reviews, but that was a problem with the TA. The mid-term is really important, don't blow it off.
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!! Dr. Buckley is very helpful, lecture are interesting and enjoyable to attend. If you enjoy the West, this is a must...not very difficult.
He has a great sense of humor and I always enjoyed his lectures. He memorizes everyone's name and makes everyone feel very comfortable.
He had a seating chart which i found odd but that was to learn everyones name. He is funny and energetic, seems like he is nervous sometimes but a good professor i really enjoyed the class and would recommend him to others.
This class was interesting, but I found that the tests were really difficult. His study guides were short and not very useful. Pro. Buckley is a funny guy, but I didn't like his class at all.
It was not an easy class, but I learned a lot and he was a good teacher.
Very enthusiastic professor! Really nice lecturing style--and I appreciated his effort to include students in discussions. This class had a lot of work, but I really enjoyed it because of Prof. Buckley.
Dr. Buckley is a very nice person and is passionate about his subject, but his grading is something you can't live up to. He almost never gives out As. Plan to do well in the class before the final because he usually gives you the option of not finishing it.
Lewis and Clark was an awesome class. I wasn't too excited for it when I signed up, but by the first class I was hooked. He is a really hard grader, but he was always willing to help. There's tons of reading, but the class is extremely rewarding.
Dr. Buckley gave me the best feedback and criticism on my writing that I've ever received. I really developed as a writer and researcher during his class. He grades fairly, but expects preparation prior to class. I don't recommend passively going through his courses.
Dr Buckley gave me the best feedback on my writing that I've ever received. I really developed as a researcher/writer during his course. He grades fairly but has high expectations. Actively engage with the material and you'll get a lot out of this personable, helpful, knowledgeable professor.
Professor Buckley is a good teacher but do not take him for American History 220. His lectures are interesting but almost NOTHING he talked about showed up directly on his midterms. The majority of his lectures were where he just sat and talked to us. We also had 2 full text books he expected us to read and 3 books to do papers on.
I LOVE Dr. Buckley! He is really funny, especially when he makes fun of kids who think they know everything. He is open to questions and helping the students and is really nice. He grades essays on tests nice. The tests were rough though, the multiple choice didn't really reflect lectures in class, you have to read a lot, but I highly reccomend him
Dr. Buckley is has extensive knowledge of American Indians and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He is a very friendly guy with a fun personality, but his course was very challenging. Lectures could be hard to follow but his enthusiasm was always high. He will really push you in your writing, and most of the tests were essay questions.
Dr. Buckley is the best prof I've had at BYU. Class is interesting and he encourages participation. Not boring at all. He knows the subject incredibly well. It is time consuming--lots of reading, difficult to know what's on the tests, and no feedback on essays, so it's hard to know how to improve. But it's fascinating and he'll work with you.
Its true, you do have to do the reading to prepare for the test, so read through the chapters and be ready for the test. Professor Buckley teaches a really enjoyable and entertaining class, and no, he will not read out of the book for you, sorry. He is also very cordial and helpful if you are struggling in the class.
If you are not a textbook reader, this is not the class for you. Buckley is funny enough, but although I'm majoring in the subject I found his class painful. The study guide says, "Multiple choice from reading and lecture." That's it. Things that appeared on the test were in the reading but didn't appear on the lecture until after the test. Beware.
Professor Buckley is great! He really knows what he's talking about and he cares. Just do the reading and pay attention in class. His lectures are a little hard to follow, but he's funny. Definitely recommend!
warning to all those wanting to take HIST 220 to fulfill part of the American Heritage required credit--DON'T DO IT! Really, unless you already have an interest in American History, and I mean read books about it for fun and debate about it at lunch with your friends, you will not enjoy this class. AND NEITHER WILL YOUR GPA!
If you want to LEARN about history, then this is a great class. If you care about your grades or have scholarships you are trying to maintain, then this is not a great class. Please learn from someone who has been in your shoes--just take American Heritage instead. There are TA's to help, and a huge curve too! This class has neither.
I truly felt like I learned something important in this class. Not too much reading, fascinating lectures, slightly difficult tests but completely doable. Dr. Buckley is so funny. He has a really smart, dry sense of humor -- you have to listen closely to appreciate it. Thankfully, he also loves to dress up like Lewis and Clark. Great class.
Dr. Buckley is one of the best professors at BYU. If you go talk to him, he will help you learn the material and understand the concepts better so you will do well on his tests. It is AMAZING how much he knows about this subject. He is for sure an expert in his field. If you are willing to go to class and try, you will really like this class!
The test study-guides say "multiple choice from all reading and lectures" so you have to class to get all the information and do well. Make comments in class for sure!!! It is a smaller class which allows for more fun debates and questions and discussions among students. Dr. Buckley knows each student by name, and I would recommend him
Dr. Buckley is approachable, knowledgable, hilarious, and fair. His dry humor and surprising pop culture references make class fun, while his berth of knowledge makes it interesting. Dr. Buckley expects students to be responsible for their education. If you need help or have feedback for him, approach him. He's invested in his students successes.
Brother Buckley is a nice person, but there is no good way to study for this class. You have to read four books over the course of the semester in addition to the textbook and other assigned readings. Attendance is mandatory, but lectures don't cover majority of what will be on the test. If you decide to take this class, good luck.
Professor Buckley is a really nice guy who wants you to do well in the class. He expects a lot of reading. His lectures are long and hard to pay attention to. I found the readings a lot more helpful than his lectures. There are lots of short papers due throughout the semester that are not too hard. It's the pop quizzes that will get ya!
Beware! In the independent study class many of the quiz questions deal with picky details and material that is NEVER presented in the textbook or online course materials. Other questions are on material that isn't covered until a chapter or two later. Also, it's literally impossible to contact him if you're in the independent study class.
Do not take this class as an independent study course. He doesn't return emails. Quizzes have questions that aren't even in the chapter that you're being quizzed on. His "feedback" was so off-base and generic that I swear he must not have even read my essay but just sent a canned response. RIDICULOUS!!!!!
Professor Buckley is a nice guy and cares however, his classes are all lecture and very dry/boring. I basically just read the book to learn. He takes attendance every class and randomly gives pop quizzes. There are several short papers to write which aren't too bad. Midterms are multiple choice with a couple of essay prompts. I wouldn't recommend.
The tests don't have anything to do with the lectures, but you still need to come to class because he gives pop quizzes. The pop quizzes are only 5 questions and on really specific details, so if you miss even just one, it will hurt your grade.
Dr. Buckley is very knowledgable about the subject material. My only issue was that he can be an unreasonably tough grader, but really it's not that hard to get a good grade in his class. He encourages class discussion, and is respectful of students' opinions. I learned a ton from Dr. Buckley, I would definitely recommend him!
I never wanted to miss class.
Dr. Buckley is easily one of the best professors I ever had. Classes are very well organized and interesting. For the paper, several drafts that he grades pretty critically, but he fixes every little mistake. In the end you get a really great grade if you fix your errors. Very willing to help in all aspects of the class and life in general.
This is my second class with Dr. Buckley. He is a phenomenal professor. His grading criteria for the paper are clear. He is quite critical in drafts, but fixes every little thing so if you incorporate his changes you will do well. He spends lots of time one on one making sure you are on the right track. I would take another class in a heartbeat!!
I took this class instead of American Heritage and it was honestly the right choice! Lots of outside reading in addition to the textbook with papers that went with each book. They are only 500 words so not bad. Test questions came straight out of the textbook, NOT lectures although attendance is mandatory. Do the readings and you'll pass easily!
Now that I am working in Washington D.C. I really appreciate the things I learned in Dr. Buckley's classes. His classes have prepared me better for this experience than any others I have taken at BYU.
Dr. Buckley is one of the most accessible and caring professors. He is very authentic and cares a lot about his students' success, not only about class content. He is approachable, flexible, and reasonable. He makes class humorous and enjoyable. He does expect a lot of his students, but he rewards those who are willing to put in genuine effort.
I couldn't have chosen a better teacher/mentor to work on my capstone research paper with. Even though I chose to research an area outside of Dr. Buckley's emphasis, he helped me immensely by directing me to resources and by being available. He is great to work with and encouraged me to pursue additional opportunities outside of class.
Professor Buckley is great. He cares about his students and values education. He teaches great material and I always learn so much from his classes. If you do your reading you will be prepared for the quizzes. He grades fairly and if you put in the effort you will learn from the class and get a good grade.
Dr. Buckley is an enjoyable history professor. He teaches clearly and in a fun manner, dressing up as Lewis and Clark when discussing them. His class is definitely hard, and you have to work hard to receive an A, but you will learn substantially. I loved his class and would definitely take it again!
This was one of my favorite classes at BYU! Dr. Buckley is an engaging teacher and found ways to bring to life what he is teaching. He is also willing to work with you if you give effort. Not an easy A, but a good class nonetheless. If you don't love/moderately enjoy history, this is not the class for you. This helped me to love American history!
Dr. Buckley's class was always super fun to go to! It's rigorous, and you get a whole lot out of it. Be willing to go visit during office hours-he's definitely willing to help you to improve your grade as well as make sure you understand the material.
He is a great professor, he knows so much and cares about each of his students. You can tell he wants to know everyone even in large classes. However, because he knows literally everything about American history he covers a lot of information very quickly, so sometimes it can be difficult to feel prepared for tests but they are doable if you study.
Tests are difficult, and the class isnt easy, but if youre willing to work, it will help develop you a lot.
Professor Jay Buckley is a great teacher. I would take any of classes. Great lectures and material that prepares for the exams. Just review the material and stay ahead of papers you will write and you will do fine.
Loved the professor and the class. Made history interesting. Taught with positivity and a love for American history but didnt hide the uglier parts of it. Really left me with a broader and deeper understanding of our history. He really cares about his students and likes to get to know them.
Professor Buckley genuinely cares about you and what he teaches. The lectures are interesting and I always stayed awake which is saying a lot because I took his class at 8am! The multiple choice on the tests are pretty hard so you have to do the readings and pay a lot of attention in class. He is a very generous grader when it comes to essays.
Professor Buckley is passionate about History, and it shows during his lectures. They are engaging and contain info important for the midterm/final. Tests include multiple choice and short essay questions. Like any class, it requires effort, especially in the reading of the textbook and other texts. However, Prof. Buckley is great.
Mr. Buckley is a great professor! He keeps lectures interesting and fun to attend. He does take attendance so it's important to go to class. You will learn so much in this class in a new and entertaining way, he dresses up and does accents. He is wiling to talk to and help students with personal issues, very understanding and considerate.
I was hesitant to take this class after reading reviews, but this class was NOT time consuming, NOT hard to get stuff done, and I NEVER felt intimidated to contact him about anything. My only complaint is that he's transitioning from paper copies to digital copies and sometimes there are discrepancies for requirements. Just clarify with him :)
Jay is the best! His lectures were always interesting and his assignments werent busywork, everything in his class had a purpose. He was always really caring and respected and treated all of us like family. It was a small class so you participated a lot, but everything was very flexible. Loved this class and would totally recommend it to everyone!
I don't recall a question ever being asked throughout the entire semester that Dr. Buckley did not know the answer to. He effectively cultivates an environment of respect, safety, and growth. His grading is tough, and his feedback very helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Buckley's class.
I would recommend Dr. Buckley's class to anyone looking to become more familiar with Native American history! He is one of the most approachable professors I have taken a class from, and he gave me really good feedback on my research project. Participation is mandatory, so plan on coming to class. Do readings, and ask him if you have any questions!
Professor Buckley is extremely knowledgeable, and cares a lot about his students. He is willing to meet with you and help you. He is a bit of a tough grader, and you should expect to work your grades, but not impossible at all. He gives a lot of assignments, but none are too large. I really enjoyed the class.
Professor Buckley is a nice guy who is very passionate about what he is teaching, however, it is impossible to pay attention in class. He is boring and dry. I have solely depended on my prior American History knowledge to get through this class.
He's one of those teachers who says he doesn't really give As. as in of you do everything you should do you'll get a 93. Getting a 100 is nearly impossible on an assignment. He really is a nice human being, but if you're just wanting to avoid taking American heritage, maybe pick a different class. There is 1 extra credit assignment that's worth 1%
This professor is very good. He knows a lot about history and is more than happy to answer your questions if you have em. The class was half online half in person so I wasn't sure how it would go but professor Buckley made it not only doable but Enjoyable. His exams are fair and he prepares you for them. Lots of papers, but that's to be expected.
Professor Buckley is a super cool person and he is super nice too. Pay attention in class and read and you should be fine.
Professor Buckley is one of the most caring and kind professors Ive ever had! The class is interesting, but there is just a lot of material so the tests were pretty hard as there was just so much to review. Overall though, a good class! Important subject matter that focuses a lot on Native American influence on American history.
Dr. Buckley is a fantastic professor! His class is definitely challenging but so worth it. He relies on material from lectures, the textbook and extra readings for midterms and the final so make sure you read and take good notes. He loves history and encourages participation and differing opinions from his students.
Professor Buckley does very well at making the course material entertaining and easy to remember. It is tricky when trying to take a half in person, half online course but professor Buckley makes it fun. I would definitely take from this professor again if I get the chance.
I don't think I could say enough good things about Dr. Buckley. The class is interesting and challenging, but not bad. As long as you do your best and work, you will do well in the class. He truly cares about his students and is there for help. I loved the class so much I am take another one next semester!
Professor Buckley is a nice person but his class was challenging. He is a very difficult grader. This class was heavy in reading and writing assignments. His lectures were dry and uninteresting. If history is not a subject you thrive in and don't enjoy then I would not recommend taking this class.
IF YOU PLAN ON GETTING OR MAINTAINING A SCHOLARSHIP LISTEN UP! You wont get an A you just wont, my class only had 1 student who received above 94%. He is extremely unfair in his grades, this isnt a me thing this is an everyone thing. He is kind in his words but his actions say differently. If you dont care about grades go for it.
Most caring Prof I had the pleasure of learning from! Sent emails to encourage/remind us we have resources to help cope with Uni stress. A lot of reading but you learn valuable information! Papers for each book/one major research paper (ur choice) that he helps you prep for. Loved his class so much Im taking another! TAKE HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Buckley is an incredibly nice man, but his class was rough. He stumbles through old powerpoints every day and it's hard to pay attention. He is a tough grader, and a lot depends on your TA's. I had terrible TA's and they kind of ruined this class for me. There is a crazy amount of reading and you'll fall behind. So many papers that are graded hard.
Dr. Buckley cares about his student so much! He is a very kind person. I learned a lot in this class, but it wasn't very easy. The tests are pretty hard, and the textbook is pretty dry. But the papers were generally fun to write and the TAs are super helpful.
A HTG gets a bad rep, but trust me it is easier than HIST 220. The readings took me about 3+ hours A NIGHT and that is the only reason I got an A. There is an essay due nearly every week and the TAs grade extremely harshly but give very little instruction. The lectures are pretty boring, though Buckley is a great guy, and the tests are impossible
Could have gotten a solid A if I put a little more effort in; it is achievable. 3 exams, not cumulative. Exam MC is small details from lectures + textbook. Essay portion is main topics from lectures. TAs grade papers, don't be afraid to contest grades & ask for clear grading criteria. Prof is alright, lacks emphasis on some important concepts.
Prof Buckley was very kind and obviously cared a lot about his students. Definitely the sweetest prof! However, he definitely made you work for your grades. A bit frustrating that he would never give full points on assignments i.e. almost-weekly papers; the top scores would be around 94%- you would have to go above and beyond for a perfect score.
Dr. Buckley is a really good and caring prof. His class was really interesting and I learned a lot. It is reading heavy and a lot of work. There were about 6 papers and a ton of reading. Studying for the tests was hard because I didn't know exactly what would be on them so pay really close attention in the lectures! GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS IT HELPS!
Professor Buckley is a very passionate and enthusiastic professor! He cares a lot with about the students and designs assignments that help you gain an appreciation for the Native American community. Would recommend this class to anyone! His grading is tough but worth the challenge if you are trying to learn.
I love Dr. Buckley! He is incredibly kind, passionate, and cares about his students! His class is certainly not a walk in the park, but if you work hard, pay attention, and ask for help when you need it, you will definitely succeed. Dr. Buckley has your best interests at heart. His classes truly influenced my education and outlook on life!
Dr. Buckley is super knowledgeable and very willing to help students. Ask for help! There are a lot of little assignments and he usually doesn't give an A unless you go above and beyond, so make sure to put in the effort and he will be generous. Also, show up and participate. I learned so much in this class.
Dr. Buckley is one of the kindest professors I have had. I took his class during COVID and he was extremely caring and willing to work with us. The class wasn't super difficult but I learned sooo much. I've already signed up to take more classes from him!
Great class. Prof Buckley is willing to work with you on any circumstance and deeply cares about source material!
I took Dr. Jay for my capstone class my senior year. It was pretty reading-heavy but he is a history professor so that was to be expected. He has a great relationship with students and I laughed in this class probably more than one should in a university class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND- but don't expect to rush through papers. He expects quality.
Professor Buckley is an amazing professor! This was my first time taking a class about Native American history or even the intermountain west and he made everything so accessible and engaging. I learned so much and Professor Buckley was always very welcoming and understanding with his students. A fun class with clear and reasonable expectations.
I have taken multiple classes from Dr. Buckley and I have enjoyed every single one. This was a capstone course, so it was pretty writing heavy. Regardless, Dr. Buckley set us up for success by having us make drafts early on and giving us thorough feedback. He expects quality work but it makes you a better writer. He truly cares about his students!
Prof. Buckley is a great professor - As a Native American I was amazed at his respect when dealing with sensitive subjects. Not a hard class to keep up in - a few readings, but about interesting stuff, written tests (which were graded fairly), one bigger paper but not too hard, and a few group projects which were fun.
Dr. Buckley is an incredibly caring and kind professor. US History isn't my favorite but he went out of his way to help us engage with the material. The exams were reasonable, and he made sure we knew he was accessible out of class if we needed help with anything.
As a Native American, I was wary of taking this class taught by a white guy, but Dr. Jay is humble, sensitive, and able to teach history without bias or one-sidedness. Sometimes his lectures can get boring, but he tries to make it relatable. Tests are all writing, final is a big research project. I got by without ever looking at the textbooks.
He really was the best.
Buckley is awesome. He's one of my favorite professors. The work-load in his class was reasonable and the tests weren't very hard, just a lot of writing. Also, just wanted to add that Buckley is just a good person who wants what is best for his students and is always willing to talk to them. I would 100000000% recommend taking a class from him.
Fantastic professor. I took HIST 220 early in the morning, but I was still able to stay awake through it because he made it interesting. He is complete accepting of people and their comments in class, and is willing to work with you outside of class. Lots of lectures, lots of reading, and a little bit of writing.
Dr. Buckley is the nicest and most understanding professor I have ever had. He cares so deeply about the course and the students. His lectures are great and always entertaining. There's a decent amount of reading but it's really not that bad. He is very clear about assignments and tests and everything is organized really well.
He's great, Idk how he doesn't seem to be tenured. Class included lectures, papers, a research paper, 2 exams, and a fun visit to the MOA. It is manageable, but fyi he has high writing expectations for the papers. Truly cares about student success and is very knowledgeable, passionate about the subject, and very kind/approachable. Highly recommend.
Dr. Buckley is one of the most genuine and kind professors I have ever had at BYU. I have taken two of his classes because his lectures are so interesting and engaging. He is also really willing to work with his students and wants them to do well in his classes. Highly recommend
I loved taking History 490 with Dr. Buckley! He really cares about students' success and makes class fun and a joy to attend. He excels at helping students refine their ideas and polish up their final papers.
Dr. Buckley is one of the rare professors you are excited to find! He started the semester as our tour guide through history. It was fun and enjoyable lots of work but very worth it. I highly recommend taking this class. If you have two classes that conflict .. choose his. You won't regret it. He grades fairly and quickly.
Professor Buckley is the kindest man at BYU. His class had a lot of outside readings and the tests are all essay based. I struggle with essays, so I had to stretch but if they are your thing take this class. Very informative and very kind professor who helped me improve. Grading was occasionally unclear but that is my only complaint. Wonderful guy.
I have a 3.9 GPA and work very hard for my grades, but he completely setup our class for failure. His study guides were not like the test, and super vague. He never shared details with his TA, so even the TA wasn't a good source for help. He had a derogatory tone and made you feel stupid for asking questions.
Leaving a 2nd negative review for emphasis. This class is unfairly hard. Ruined my scholarship and now I pay full price for school because of Professor Buckley's ridiculous grading and inability to prepare you for tests.
He gives you ZERO heads up on what the tests will be on, and they are a huge part of your grade. Studied for like 10 hours and as soon as I started the test I realized I didn't study the right things because he doesn't provide a study guide or anything helpful. Even the TA was left in the dark so there were no resources to succeed.
Okay, Dr. Buckley is probably the nicest teacher on campus here at BYU. He genuinely cares for each of his students. However, there are questions on the tests that were never even mentioned in class. Just one midterm covers 7 chapters of a textbook. The test however would ask very specific random questions. You will NOT get an A in this class.
He told us the last day of class would be a "review" and I expected him to review the content for the class. Instead, he spent class asking "what was your favorite topics?" and "what skills did you learn?" and had us take a U.S. citizenship test. He never prepared us for the tests well.
Dr. Buckley is a great professor, easily my favorite I've ever had in a social Science major. Every day we learned something new that made an impression on me. He always worked hard to keep the class a fun learning environment while still sharing new groundbreaking perspectives from our Nation's History that really change everything.
I enjoyed his class, I learned a ton of relevant, interesting things. He emphasized parts of history that are often overlooked. I thought that the grading criteria was unclear at times, especially with essays. His tests are randomly specific and focus less on themes/events and more on people, and small details that were rarely discussed in class.
Dr. Buckley is a great professor who truly cares about his students. Be sure to take notes while reading the textbook, as information in the textbook can show up on exams. I learned a lot from Dr. Buckley and am grateful I was in his class.
I really enjoyed Dr. Buckley's class. His lectures were diverse in topic, focused on many perspectives, an engaging. The readings and write ups provided opportunities to learn and better understand history in an entertaining manner. He was helpful and gave great feedback.
Professor Buckley really cares about his students. He wants to make sure everyone will succeed. If the criteria for his projects are unclear, make sure you ask clarifying questions about the assignments! He is constantly reaching out to help students and wants to accommodate needs if possible. Just communicate with him.
Lecture slides are 100% not useful because they are vague. Tests ask extremely specific questions. There is no helpful material to study. Tough grading on papers. The TA was totally incompetent, only giving general answers to questions. Attendance is mandatory, and you'll learn absolutely no skills in this class that will help you in life lol
Might be my favorite teacher I've had through 3 years of college. I've never rated a professor before, I'm only here cause I love the guy. Professor Buckley is just the nicest guy. I'd very much recommend him.
Dr. Buckley is a genuinely spiritual, kind, and caring person! Although getting a good grade in this class was very difficult, he sets up the class that way so that his students can learn a lot. If you want an easy class for your GE credits, don't take this class, but if you want to learn and grow, I 100% recommend this class!
I learned so much in this class that I had never been taught in other history classes. Doctor Buckley does a great job at showing different perspectives not often taught. He is such a caring man and I really felt his love he has for me and all other students. Wonderful class. Textbook is provided, along with most required readings.
Dr. Buckley is a very kind, understanding person, but I learned just about nothing from this class. His lectures focus a lot on discussion & general historical trends, but his tests ask extremely specific factual questions. If you study textbook/lecture notes you'll still be very surprised with the test material. Very unorganized & unclear overall
Dr. Buckley was an amazing professor! I really enjoyed how he included the Native American perspective in U.S. history. There were a lot of papers, but if you start on them early they are manageable. The Study guides for exams were extremely helpful as the questions helped me review all of the important details.
Professor Buckley is an engaging instructor who makes history come alive. While the tests can be tricky, using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and lecture notes helps stay on top of the material.
Dr. Buckley is a great professor! He is extremely knowledgeable and kind. I wouldn't have taken my senior capstone from anyone else. He holds students to high standards but provided great, thorough feedback and a lot of time to improve our papers. He helped my paper be the best it could be. Take your senior capstone from him!
I loved taking my capstone from Dr. Buckley! It was super awesome to work on it throughout the semester in small chunks and have the draft done before the end of the semester. He gave great feedback on the draft and was super available to meet with for help throughout the semester!
Professor Buckley is immensely kind and caring. I am so glad to have taken his class and would recommend it to anyone. There are relatively few grades throughout the course, so be sure not to miss an assignment, and the grading can be somewhat harsh, but overall, it is an amazing class and teacher
Professor Buckley is obviously passionate about his field of study, which makes lectures enjoyable and interesting. The research paper is worth a lot of the grade and as long as you keep up with it you'll do fine. Fair chunk of reading, but what do you expect from a history course.
Amazing professor! This class was awesome and I really enjoyed learning all the content. I highly recommend.
Dr. Buckley is passionate about Indigenous history and catering to his students experience in his class. Be prepared to engage with your peers and with the professor in meaningful discussions--often based on the readings for that day. I found that this class was relatively reading "heavy" but the readings were enjoyable. Totally recommend!
I love Professor Buckley! He made me want to switch and be a history major. There were hardly any assignments in this class besides 4 tests and a couple papers which were easy. He is super funny, however studying for the midterms can be tricky. Do the readings though, or have chat summarize them and you'll be fine!
Professor Buckley is a wonderful professor! I can't imagine taking my capstone course from anyone better! He'll work with you and give you fantastic feedback on every aspect of your writing that helps you grow. It's not an easy class, but he makes the process of writing your bachelor's thesis both enjoyable and doable.
He is awesome! Would totally take his class again! :)
I had a very positive experience in Dr. Buckley's class. He is very kind and funny. He's willing to meet and work with students outside of class to help with assignments. His class was involved, but not difficult. It was easy to get a good grade if you put in the effort to do the assignments and study for the tests.
He is a great UNIV teacher and really cares about each student! He invited us over to his house and we had dinner and played games!
Professor Buckley was incredible! I could tell and feel that he cared about me and my interests and success. He is funny? A great listener, and a disciple of Jesus Christ. I'm grateful for him and for my time learning from him this semester.
