Professor Jay is the epitome of a great professor. He genuinely wants everyone to do well in the class and he goes out of his way to do so. He is an amazing teacher, explains things thoroughly and it is clear that he has a passion for what he teaches. I wish he was here last year when I took the first 1/2 of A&P. Truly a star! 11/10 would recommend

Jay is very passionate about teaching. He wants all his students to succeed and tries to help us understand as much as possible. He offers a lot of extra credit when the class doesn't do well on exams. However, his exams are very difficult. You have to learn how to apply your knowledge in a lot of detail and relate many different concepts.

Professor Gump is very passionate about what he teaches and I can respect that. However, his tests are impossible and make no sense. He expects you to perform at a level much higher than required for A&P2. A lot of the class is failing. I would 100% not recommend professor gump, especially at a school with a population like umass.

Jay is an amazing person and he's very kind. He is passionate about anatomy but is almost too smart. This class is EXTREMELY hard and he asks students to apply anatomy. You can't just know the information you have to be able to think about things that he hasn't even talked about. Expects too much for an intro class. Very nice, but class is too hard

He wants us to succeed. The pre-class homework helps with lectures, and he has a decent amount of review questions. What you learn in class is what you need for the test, and he emphasizes it, too. He's got a Dad humor style, but it makes class better. However, lab is very intense, so be prepared for a LOT of memorization.

Gump fails to successfully convey any course material in a logical fashion. He stumbles through his slides and can't even explain how the most basic physiological mechanisms work. It's not even worth going to class - you're better off attending the SI. The HW he assigns is pointless and the exam questions are overly complicated.

Great professor. He just expects his students to put in effort, but many expect to excel without trying very hard. Gump is a very kind and knowledgeable prof. There is a lot of material in this class and you do have to take the time to understand it well, however it is very possible to get an A in this class. There are five exams (final, 2 midterms, 2 practicals) but in total only about 38% of grade. If you have any questions he's more than happy to help you

We could choose to take exams/final either in-person or on Zoom and all were open note. Two lab practicals: a lot of memorization but only 6% of your grade each. Would sometimes give extra credit for iClickers during lecture. HW 3x a week. Can be a lot of material but you're set up to succeed if you complete everything and with pretty easy grading.

He rambles in every lecture and goes on about things not even closely mentioned in the hour long mcgraw hill readings. Prelabs take forever. Exams and quizzes were open note so they are easy to pass and he gave extra credit for iclickers but I just could not pay attention to his lectures for the life of me.

HE'S HORRIBLE! It's so unfair because he literally made his exams open note and on zoom last semester and completely changed it this year. I feel like his class ruined my life. It's actually so defeating idk how anyone does relatively okay in his class. His exams are gibberish -- if everyone is getting a D average on the exam, professors; its you.

Exam is highly monitored. From the previous reviews from last year, exams were open book and some were taken at home. It's unfair to give other students options to use notes in exams. Let everyone use open notes. Exams are difficult and in class. Last exam the average was 66, if it could be open notes the average could be higher.

Jay is such a nice guy but he is the worst professor I have ever had. It is insane that the exams are in person with no open notes allowed. Aside from the insane workload, it is even more insane to expect students to retain all this information and be able to apply it to difficult conceptual questions. Exam average is never over the 60s wonder why!

Jay Gump is obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about the material. His lectures are very helpful, you just have to pay attention to the words he says, not just read off the slides. There is a decent amount of work for the class, but it didn't feel like busy work and is a necessary foundation for the material you will expand upon in class.

Lecture exams are 20% of your grade, so much EC is given just for showing up. If you put in the time, an A is basically guaranteed.

Kinda awkward but he's funny and caring. Regular textbook modules, lecture builds off material in a very specific manner, hw is meant to be a preface. Expectations are very clear, more abundant than difficult work. Lab is basically weekly pre labs and two relatively dense 'practicals' which are just 50q multiple choice quizzes on the lab material

Prof. Gump has to be the one of the highest quality professors I have ever had. I am now in an accelerated nursing program and without a doubt, these two classes have carried me through school. His explanations of concepts will stick with you for years. Exams can be complex but focused on understanding concepts rather than straight memorization.

Going to lecture isn't too helpful for me, but 70% of the exam comes from weekly quizzes like word for word so as long as you memorize those you'll get at least a 70 on the exams. The lab is harder and more dense where you have to memorize a lot of info but if you don't do well it won't ruin your grade. Very easy to pass with a good grade.
