Mr.H made history about as cool as it could have been. Provides you a solid review sheet before midterm and final. Other than 2 tests class consists of 6 writing assignments based on readings. Overall prety good class, offers fair amount of extra credit which helps after somewhat difficult tests. Makes good efforts to help you succeed.
Everything was great about Mr Hester's teaching style; he was clear, funny, didn't get mired in details. His writing assignments were great and not overly time-consuming and he did not require any fifteen page paper as history profesors tend to do.
Long lectures. Lots of reading. Not a whole lot of HW. Gave study guides for each test. Knew his stuff.
Great teacher, very interesting, responds very quickly to email. very clear, doesn't push his political agenda which is a nice change. All around great perspn and nice man
This teacher is the best! It took me three tries to pass history and he finally got me to pass it. He puts in a lot of time to help you after class and doesn't give up on struggling students. He is funny too which helped me to stay awake.
Be prepared to read a write a lot! Took this class as a summer online course and it was very fast paced! His class would be much easier over a regular semester.
I took this class with Jay over the summer. His teaching style is just lecturing. So if you like a lecture class, then take this one. He is very nice and extremely helpful. He also responds to emails quickly. All in all it was a fun class
Horrible Teacher! Took this class online, discussion board questions are impossible to answer.
Great Professor! He really knows his subject and teaches it in an organized, easy to follow structure. Easy to approach and very attentive to his student's success. There are 3 or 4 main tests, and he has three other text he gives weekly quizzes on. its not hard as long as you do the reading and he offers extra credit
FANTASTIC teacher! Very understanding, helpful, and unique. He's fun, easy going, and very knowledgeable on his subject. Keep up with your work(just like any class) and it will be a breeze!
He's great. He know his subject well, keeps his bias out of the classroom, and is very easy to understand. Just make sure you go to class everyday, it's helpfull for the tests. Very approachable and open. My favorite professor at Sierra
This isn't a particularly easy class but the teacher is amazing. He is an incredible public speaker and his knowledge is astounding. I recomend this class if you are wanting an excellent teacher not if you want an easy A.
fantastic teacher, really knows his subject. Make sure you study the assigned readings and attend class (the exams are based off of his lectures)
Not an easy A by any means, but an amazing teacher! His lectures are very interesting (they kept me awake at 8am!) and packed full of info which WILL be on the tests, so take really thorough notes & STUDY. He's a great guy too; take him if you're up for the challenge, you will learn a lot!
A great teacher. he includes music, pictures and videos in his lectures. He is very nice and approachable. He cracks jokes at 8 a.m. I highly recommend him to anyone who has a small interest in American History. how to get an A: attend, take notes, interact, do e.c. and study. He always gives study guides and allows 1 3X5 card on every exam. ;)
He was by far the best professor that I have ever encountered. He believes in hard, honest work and truly wants to help you. He is very educated in his subject and his knowledge is evident in his lectures. He is interesting to listen to and passionate about history. There is no nightly homework but keep up on the reading, it helps! Overall; Great!
On-line class, eight week course. Find him to be a little bit of a control freak when it comes to on-line discussion board posts. Write, write, write. New in advance that it wasn't going to be cake, but "F" man! Test open book - Studied and notes, only a 69. Wierd testing style. Ex. question: Rhode Island? That was it! Doesn't add up. WEAK!
This class itself is hard. i took it with another teacher and had to drop it. this one is hard too, but it's a little easier because his lectures are clear and the tests he gives a review sheet of everything on it so you can really study whats important. he's a good teacher.
This is a very hard teacher. His lectures are very hard to understand as he expects you take notes from his on the board, but it very hard to remember what "1766" means. He writes o ne or two words for you to understand later. You really have to study for his tests as they are exmtemely difficult. I reccamend a different teacher.
Jay is a wonderful teacher. He makes history interesting, and you actually want to go to class! The best teacher i have ever had:)
Jay Hester is a fantastic teacher. The Class isnt easy but if you go to class participate in lecture and do the extra credit an A is cake! Honestly the best teacher i have ever had. i actually retained the information, plus he really makes it interesting. Funny Guy!
Great teacher if you are really interested in the subject. Exams were really hard because there was so much information to remember. Class average was always around 62%. You have to do the work and read every chapter of the book. He really is a great teacher, you just have to care about the class.
Has no problem changing the requirements of the class if he is unhappy with the lack of participation. Seems disorganized and over-worked, as he never grades the papers by the deadlines he sets for himself.
Great Teacher. Learned alot from his class. The only people that do bad in his class are the slackers. If you want a good grade participate and study. Gave alot of extentions for the papers.
HE was nice if you did the work but if your forgot one week he would take your grade down. The test were very very hard!!!
I took his class online. He was an OK professor. His tests were difficult and it was really hard to care about the class because he didn't put much effort into the class. Towards the end of the semester he jsut stopped making actual lectures and just outlines of a lecture. So if you enjoy reading ALL about american history take this class.
I took 1A & 1B online with Prof Hester and thought both classes were relatively easy. You need to read, do your homework (on time for full credit - of course!) and participate in the discussion board and you will do well. Not for slackers or those who complain if they want an A for doing nothing... I recommend him and his classes.
Nice, cool guy, but difficult.
Super easy class, all the posts saying the tests and class was hard are slackers. Do the work on time and fill out test reviews and its an easy A. Lectures do fall short towards end of class but the last 3 weeks have less work and it makes it easier to focus on other classes.
Great professor. Fun course.
He's a great teacher and has the class well laid out but the tests are extremely hard and don't have much time to take them. Lots of work but stay on top of your post, and watch the deadlines
Took class online. You don't really have to use textbook, you can just read the lecture and still form a good enough answer for the discussion board questions. You have to log on at least 3 out of the 7 days to post and reply to other people's answers. You have to study for the tests, I usually get a B+. You have to write essays every 2 weeks or so
Took this class online. super hard tests. i am normally an A student but this guy had it out for me i swear. Even with reading all of the material and studying, its a super hard online class. maybe hes better in person... if you're taking this online, dont take him!
I took online during summer. He was a good teacher, the class was very straight forward. His tests were extremely hard but the assignments were easy. You had to log in 3 times a week. I got a C on the tests but still ended up with a B in the class. Do all the homework and log in and do discussion boards and you will do fine. I recommend him!
Took summer school class. Liked the subject, not the way in which it was taught. He's not great at teaching online at all. He doesn't respond to e-mail well either.
I also took the class online, I recommend it too! Read chapter, complete assigned assignments and blog on discussion board and you'll be done with history. Its the same stuff we learned in h.s, so nothing new, just online is better :)
Online class was challenging but learned a lot. If you are an independent learner who likes to teach yourself, his online 17-B class may be right for you.
I took this class online and let me tell you..... It's time consuming!! You have to log in all the time and the syllabus is confusing as to the posts and due dates. There is a lot of material to cover, at least double or triple of a normal class. Very little interaction from Hester if any at all.
Jay is an awesome professor! I really wasn't a big fan of History before his class, but he really gets you interested in it. If you want to pass, attend lectures and take thorough notes. And study for tests! If you have questions or need help, he is always there and really encourages talking to him. Overall, fantastic class.
Took Hist 17B and he made it very interesting. Is always willing to go the extra mile to help students succeed. Takes time out of his day to schedule a two hour review session for the midterm and final with all of his classes. He is easy to ask questions to, and is always receptive and understanding of how busy college is
I'm really glad I took Hester for this class. His class is all lecture so be ready for that, but he really tries to make the topic interesting and doesn't focus on detail so much as the overall picture. Also holds 2 review sessions before the exams which were VERY helpful with the essay portion of the test. Wish I had taken him for 17A too.
Good overall. He was very clear with what he wanted to be done and was always available when you needed help. He took the extra step to help his students. His class was heavily weighted on quizes and tests which i didnt like too much, but he offered extra credit throughout the course. Made all the lectures interesting with his jokes.
I absolutly loved this class! I don't like history so much but he made it interesting! There is no text book, a few small chapter books that you get quized on but aren't on the tests! Holds study groups prior to tests, records lectures and posts them. If you go to class and do the tiny bit of hw reading you will get an A or B! Awesome class!
I have no interest in history, and just have taken history classes because of the requirement to transfer. After being in Jay's 17B class, I have a genuine interest in the subject. He is very dedicated to his students and his course and will help you in any way possible. His class isn't hard as long as you're in attendance and study. Take Jay!
I took his online class and it is extremely ridiculous. We used two books and the amount of reading was overwhelming. The exams were very hard and the average on one of the exams was 57%; the high being 78%. That has to say something about his teaching style.
His class isn't difficult, however he is VERY unclear about his expectations for deadlines. Each time he deducts points he says " let me know if you are still unclear" but after 9 weeks into semester and multiple emails, he has failed be make himself clear about his expectations.
I took the online course and it is a killer, the reading is overwhelming and the tests are very hard 56 is the average grade the highest grade in the very low 70s.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! I took his online class and he takes forever to get back to you and he is still no help. He assigns TONS and TONS and TONS of reading and his exams are BRUTAL. I am usually an "A" student but failed to make an A in his class because his exams are SO difficult and do not relate to what is covered in lectures and readings.
The best history professor at this college. Jay is very good at explaining his lectures clearly as well as providing more modern examples in order to understand the lecture better. He is fun and entertaining. Be ready to read what's given for hw and attend class. Awesome teacher tho.
He is ridiculous! Way too much writing for a history class I mean seriously he expected more writing than my English professor. I dropped his class because he was impossible. He is not helpful or understanding at all. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
Great online teacher, medium amount of work required. Glad I took his class online rather than taking the class at school.
Very nice, and passionate teacher. Lots of homework, and assignments, but that's not unusual for College. I really enjoyed the class.
Jay teaches information AND application. Diplomatic; does justice to various worldviews, won't slam on your beliefs. Clear expectations, fairly easy workload, strives to help you succeed. Hilariously sarcastic, understanding, realistic. Quizzes, review sessions before mid-term and final exam, research paper; lots of extra credit. I learned SO MUCH!
Took online class. Enormous work to do. Got A, but it was difficult. Always points reduction. Do not recommend.
Favorite Teacher ever!!!
Don't know about others rating him low coz of load work.College def requires some reading & writing & understanding lectures bfore coming to class. He does require some written assignmnts but he gives the questions ahead of time. Even on quizzes, midterm and finals! He will give you the questions, period!Stop being lazy people. He is very helpful!
Take him!!! History is very difficult, and Jay made it very easy to understand. He gives questionaires ahead of time for exams, makes studying a lot more easier. Very cool and easy to get a long professor. I definitely recommend taking him if you care about your grade.
Professional instructor who took his job seriously. 2 Exams for semester which included 50 MC questions and essay questions. He did reviews outside of class for both exams which made studying very efficient for me. He required 8 page research paper to be done at end of semester. Also, you will have like 10 T/F quiz. Key to get A is take good notes
Jay is an amazing professor! He is very active in the campus and is also very considerate of the students and their busy lives. He does lecture everyday so don't miss them. He uses the voices of the people book to quiz you on but only has a midterm and final exam but does a whole review to cover any uncertainties.
Jay is a very nice professor. I wish I would have taken him for all my history classes. All his notes he writes on the board as he explains. Miss a day you have to ask a student for the notes. Questions on quizzes and tests come from notes and handouts. Dont procrastinate writing outlines for the mid-term and final essays. Thats half the test.
Failed to state on syllabus the full specifics on participation, spotty due dates of discussion board postings, etc. Very nice and responded quickly, but did not answer my questions directly or clearly; perhaps similarly to his syllabus layout. As a result, I lacked necessary, precise information needed to continue the class.
I have never submitted a rate my professor score, but this one was definitely worthy. I HATED this class and unforunately did not drop it before the start date. He is HORRIBLE at explaining the due dates. I take online classes because I am extremely busy and I had to attend this class WAY more than I would have had to attend a regular class.
Loved Hester! Very flexible and understands students busy schedules and always willing to help. Passionate about history and if you attend class and take notes you will pass. Lectures every day. All in all phenomenal teacher, take him!
Best, most genuine professor at Sierra College. Truly cares about his students and the world around us. Excellent lecturer, with a dry sense of humor. Grades tough, but if you pay attention, you'll ace the class (I didn't even use the book). If I wasn't a CS major, I would be taking classes from him every semester!
Jay's class was my favorite this semester, and I am no history buff whatsoever. He lectures the whole class, so good notes are a must, but his lectures are engaging and he's hilarious! There are 2 papers which are pretty big, but in q&a format so they're not bad, and a midterm and final with a few quizzes in between. Great prof! Take him!
I took his online class. The hardest part about this class was the exams. The exams do not test your knowledge but rather how fast you can look up random insignificant facts. The discussions and quizzes were straightforward and fairly easy and this is where I learned the most. The writing assignments were mostly busy work. Tons of reading required.
The tests are so difficult- He makes the first 50 questions worth 1 point each, then the last 10 (running out of time) are worth the other 50 points. Pretty ridiculous! If I knew that the first 2 exams I would've aced the class. There's a paper every week, 8 quizzes, 3 exams, and you must go on discussion board 4 times per week!! Do not recommend
When you take online classes it is because you need flexibility. Well DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. His week is Wednesday to Wednesday and you have to post once (meaning read sometimes up to 150 pages) By Saturday, and then 2 other times but not on the same days. I work, a lot, and I work two jobs I will barely get a B in this class due to that!
Passionate and fun, Jay really knows his history. He likes to lighten the class by making jokes every now and then. Lecture is interactive and he writes what he's saying on the board as he talks. Pop quizzes are a thing but if you show up to class you should get an easy A. Let's you know exactly what will be on tests. Lots of extra credit.
If you learn by visual (textbook/slides), rather than listening (lectures), I do NOT recommend this class. He is funny, but has horrible handwriting, and the tests come from the lectures, not the required textbook. Also, the powerpoint slides don't help since they are just pictures and maps.
You have to be willing to put in the work. The tests are tough if you don't study. Quizzes are easy and just test to make sure you are taking good notes and paying attention. PowerPoint is just a guide, so you have to notate what he writes and verbalizes. Very good teacher overall. I highly recommend him if you have any passion regarding history.
His lectures are long and sometimes his handwriting is difficult to read, but overall his teaching style is great & funny. He assigns two papers, chapter quizzes plus a midterm and final. A couple days before the midterm and final he schedules an after-school study session (and potluck) to go over test material. I highly recommend his class!!!
He's a very clear grader. The assignments are all pretty straight forward. Read the book, participate in discussions and write responses and put in the effort.
Great teacher. Gives a good amount of reading homework but its easy an worth it. Very funny guy and always good to be in his class.
hey guys.. took Jay's class online thinking it would be nice to just do the homework and carry on.. but boy was i wrong... he makes you check in 4 times a week.. post one homework assignment( out of three) before Saturday and is a hard grader too also takes points away for doing it all in one day... do not take this class if you want to live.
His class would have been a lot better if I did not take the fast track coarse online. It was a lot of work in a short amount of time. It wouldnt have been as bad if I wasnt loaded with other classes as well. Seems like a good teacher and the book was helpful. But dont take it unless you will have time to put in the work.
There are a normal amount of assignments, but they require a lot of work. you can not get by with a good grade if you don't read the textbooks. His exams are very difficult and based off of the reading. I personally do not have the best memory and had a hard time with this. If you can take this class with a different professor, please do.
Jay's online class was almost as difficult as my chemistry class, because he is the hardest person to see "eye to eye" with. His grading is not consistant and his emails arent clear 95% of the time. Probably the worst and most rudest professor I have ever had. He won't round grades,"you get what you get". He doesn't care if you succeed or not...
I took Jay Hester's fast track class online and I really enjoyed it. There is a decent amount of reading but if you schedule time in according to that you should be fine. I did not find Professor Hester's class to be super hard. If you put the effort in then you should be just fine.
I took the accelerated 8 week online course and while the professor gave you plenty of time to get the work done, it was a weird set up. Discussion Boards were due on Saturday nights and responses by 7 am on a Wednesday. Having things due on a weekend can be a hassle to remember. Quizzes were also difficult and the final is extremely hard!
Jay is a great teacher. I learned so much in this class. He had a midterm and final exam which are based on lecture and textbook. Along with the exams are essays, he lets you know what the 2 out of 3 subjects you will write about. If you read and study, not hard to get an A.
His class was a lot of fun. He is really funny and sarcastic. He loves what he does and tries to help you understand. Don't be afraid to raise your hand, he's really nice and cares for his students. You have 2 opportunities for extra credit, which are easy. Do the readings and you're good. The most difficult part would be the midterm and final exam
Worst class I've ever taken at Sierra. The due dates on the assignments are not accurate as every post has to be on a different day... It's hard when you have to work and be a part of such a needy 8 week accelerated class. Quizzes/exams were crazy hard, too. Don't take this class if you really need to pass.
Doesn't reply to emails right away, I got a 69.9% and wouldn't round my grade. Last week of class changes deadline from 11:59PM Wednesdays to 7:00AM. I turned in an assignment worth 100 points an hour late and he would not give me any credit as, "late work is not gradable." Assigns extra credit but it is a 4 page paper analyzing websites. Terrible.
I liked Jay's class. He's approachable, funny and his lectures are interesting. You will never be unsure of what lecture info needs to be written down and what doesn't, because he takes notes along with you. I was provided with all the resources needed to succeed.
The class centered around weekly discussion board posts, and a few extra assignments out of the book. There were only 3 exams which were not that hard, but you'll probably need to have your book and lecture notes handy. It was a pretty interesting class and pretty straightforward. He offers extra credit which is a website analysis but it is easy!
Cares about his students & their success. Readily available if you need help. LOTS of reading. Gives you a study guide for Midterm and Final. Midterm & Final are extremely challenging if you didn't study or do the reading. Fair grader. Offers 2 extra credit assignments.
Really easy class. Make sure you go to class & take good notes on his lectures, because he does give pop quizzes, but they are open note & an easy 100% which is very helpful actually. 2 writing assignments which I got 100% on because you just answer questions from the book. Funny guy who makes lecture interesting &only 3 quizzes from the reading
Prof Hester was a great instructor on the 8 week online course. His syllabus was very clear with the due dates. Read your chapters, post your DB and respond to 2 posts on time. Its not that hard. He gives 2 extra credit assignments. The exams and quizzes can be challenging if you dont set enough time to read and understand the chapters assigned.
Jay is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is funny! He is available during office hours and is a fair grader. He gives pop quizzes based on lecture and they are open note so as long as you are attending and taking notes you will get 100% on them. There were two exams. There were opportunities for extra credit. I highly recommend!
I took Jay's online 17a & in class 17b. His class is very well organized & to the point. I personally enjoyed his lectures as he is very knowledgeable & passionate about history. He gives open note pop quizzes which is great for easy points. BUY THE BOOK! His quizzes are based off the book, & they're super easy. The essays are super easy too
Amazing teacher! Took him for my African American History class and he is the best! Readings, lectures, and videos are all entertaining ! I would highly recommend!
Great professor, knowledgeable, and caring. He gives you all of the tools to succeed and do well in his class. I took a "crash" history class, so it involved a lot of reading, which would be less if you took the full semester class. Interesting Material, great class, highly recommend.
Good but Disorganized. I feel that I learned a lot from this subject. There was a lot of content about the 18th and 19th century that was new tome. The issue I have is that he's disorganized sometimes changing schedules for tests I've already studied for and then dropping some on me by surprise without them being in the syllabus.
This guy is doing wayyy to much, setting up these silly requirements for how many times we have to post. For example, he requires you to space out your posts for the week even if you have completed all the assignments on the first day or he will mark you down. My guy some people have better things to do than dwell on your silly online class all day
Do not recommend this guy he has nothing better to do than nitpick each student down to they smallest unimportant detail. The term MICROMANAGER comes to mind when thinking of this dude. His class requires an hour of brainpower per week but wants his students to waste way more time than necessary. Your'e doing to much guy and your ticking people off
This professor has set up some silly guidelines that should not affect your overall graded but since he has decided to grade on silly details such as posting on multiple days even though his students can complete the same content in one day. Also, this guy is not open to change and could care less about student feedback. Not recommended!
His DB posts are pretty easy. His lectures were kinda boring to read, but he did provide videos to help. He provided study guides for the midterm and final, but I feel like he didn't cover anything on the study guide, and the exams were pretty hard for me. You're gonna have to self teach in order to do good on the exams.
Took online class. Not really a teacher. Sent a syllabus with reading assignments and brief chapter outlines. It was all about reading two different books (one not bad, the other total CRAP!). All he did from that point was make sure that people posted online. If you want to learn something go elsewhere, otherwise enjoy your posting!
His test are incredibly hard and the study guide is unhelpful. Several questions on test are not on study guide. You pretty much have to memorize the test book, which is impossible. Otherwise, there is not a lot of homework and discussion questions are not hard, but they don't always match the textbook chapter that the Professor says they go with.
Professor Jay is amazing. He is very down to earth and helpful. His lectures are very interesting and informative. He has pop quizzes which are super easy if you attend class and take good notes. His Midterm and Final are too harsh. They are a ton of work and study and they are almost unpassable.
Took his 8 week summer course. Lots of reading but I only read the sections relevant to the DB. Check in to the DB EVERY DAY and remember to respond and you should be fine. Midterm and final weren't too bad. Used two books, one useful and the other just weird. Will tell you straight up how his class works. Offered extra credit at the end.
He's a nice guy but he talks SOOO much. It's hard to keep up with the class when the class is only based on lectures. He doesn't give out any paperwork assignments really, all the assignments are like 1500 word typed assignments. He has a lot of pop quizzes and tests. I find that this class would be more interesting if he did not lecture as much
This class is super easy if you go to class and take good notes during his lectures. He gives pop quizzes but he usually gives them the class after he finishes a lecture on a chapter. Final and midterm are not hard as long as you study the terms on the study guide and the outlines for the essay. Lots of extra credit, great prof, highly recommend!
Professor is NOT understanding at all!! He is unprofessional. A lot of assignments! Look for another professor TRUST ME!!!
The class was only manageable because I did the work early into the week rather than later. This class is tough if you don't have a good work ethic. There is a lot of work; that being reading.. Other than that, there are a lot of outside resources available.
Mr. Hester had the wrong textbook that was needed, so when an assignment came up that needed the right one I couldnt do it. Told me that he couldnt make up for MY ERROR like wtf its not my fault that the textbook I need isnt clear enough, and I know multiple people in the class also didnt get the right one. Also makes assignments due at 7am
Read the syllabus, participate every week in class BY SATURDAY at MIDNIGHT. Less than half the class did that, which I know is because they never read the syllabus. All he ever grades is on these discussion boards, which is easy, and occasional quizzes and exams. We also did written assignments that were just answering questions. Real simple.
Took his 8 week class and it was hard for someone who doesn't like history, he gives extra credit and you need two books. Had a few exams but nothing crazy. Overall he is a solid teacher if you need someone.
I took his 8-week course. The class is mostly reading lectures and reading a few chapters a week. The biggest thing for me was that the quizzes and tests did not allow you to go back on your answers, what you answered is submitted as soon as you go to the next question and they are timed quizzes. They were open note/book though.
Took his online 16-week course, and I will say there is heavy reading, usually a quiz here and there and then an exam every month or couple of months. I can’t say he is a bad teacher but I can’t say he is a good one either as it’s literally just reading and discussion pots. I will say his Quiz’s and Exam’s do not match the reading.
Not forgiving, lots of tests and quizzes, writing assignments. A lot for a intro course in my opinion. But he has very clear directions and assignments.
Took his class in person, very hard teacher because there's BARELY homework assignments so you can't get your grade up, class is heavily based on quizzes + exams, exams are EXTREMELY HARD, there's 86+ terms, 30 pages of notes, including 2 video lectures, and 4-5 essay questions that are all on the final. Warning, don't take his class in person.
One of the best lecturers I have ever had the pleasure of having. There is a lot of at-home reading from the textbooks, but I have never had a history class I have looked forward to more than Prof. Hester's. If you need help, he is very accommodating.
Chill class, if you not a bum and just do the work, you'll have an A easy. All tests and quizzes are open note so it makes it even easier.
This class was awful. The lectures were long and hard to follow, I could not pay attention because his presentations were so dull. He also has weird and strict policies about using the Canvas page, especially with the discussion boards. I also had to submit something the last day, but the course completely closed and I had no way of messaging him.
Not very communicative to personal emails. His grading is way off any rubric.Just pass the class this was terrible.
Overall the class was OK, but it was very heavy in homework and quizzes. Lots and lots of reading and writing assignments, and the quizzes/tests didn't always match up with what was in the textbook. Professor himself was a bit odd/permissive and not very understanding when it came to questions. I don't think I would reccommend taking this course.
100000% reccomend taking his classes if you can breathe and blink you can pass his class easily. He emails every week about assignments and will even shout out students. Materials are extremely easy to comphrend. Truly this professor is hands down one of the most down to earth teachers I have taken do ittttt!!
Absolutely LOVED this class. Took it in person and his lectures were always interesting and engaging. I enjoyed figuring out the material. Participating makes it 10x more fun and easy. BUT if you don't like classes that are 80% lecture and 20% textbook, don't take him. Finals/midterms are completely based off lecture notes.
Prof. Hester is one of the best lecturers around. The class has a lot of reading, but it's engaging and worth attending. unstuck study and the textbook are helpful study tools. An easy A if you stay on top of the assignments.
Very unreasonable expectations for a gen-ed class!! Pop quizzes are only 5 questions (so you miss one and you get 80%) and he frequently asks about specific dates even though on the FRONT PAGE of his syllabus it says his course does not emphasize chronology! Also had us do a 1500 word essay on a topic he wasn't even covering in class!
Accused my essays of being AI right before the class ended, changed previous grades to a 0, resulting in a C in the class. I didn't use AI, and the only proof he had was some percent from an AI detector. He's obviously not smart enough to know how AI works. I wasted 8 hours of my life writing those essays for nothing. Just glad he's out of my life.
