he is a great teacher...the way he teaches his class is very clear. if you are wondering which teacher to take for math 110, he is the best.I strongly recommend him.
he is a great teacher. he gives a lot of quizzes, which are very helpful, come test time. i wish i took him for 252; i would have understood it more.
Lehmann is a wonderful professor. He seems like he actually cares about his job as a teacher. He has so much true-to-life information that can be used mathematically. He wrote the math book we had for 120, so it was a neat! He makes math fun!!!
If you are no good at math than this is the teacher for you...I suck at math & yet somehow he still makes it understandable...great teacher...relates abstract equations to real life making it easier to understand...
Excellent professor. He makes the material very clear and understandable. He is a wonderful Math teacher..........
To put it simply if you don't take Lehman; you're a fool. He is hands down the best teacher I have ever had.
Lehmann made everything very clear and easy. He approached problems to make it very understandable. TAKE LEHMANN!! you'll be glad you did.
Wow, guess mine will be the only negative comment. Jay was easily frustrated, generally rude, hot tempered, generally unclear with explanations, and just really unpleasant to be around. Wouldn't take him again.
i suck at math and he didnt help me much. i had to drop his class b/c he was going super fast.too many tests and not much time.
he asks his students if they have any questions and usually we did, but he'd do one problem or if it is a long one he tells us we dont have time right now and just skips to the lectures. he isnt helpful and a bit corny
Lehmann is not easy, but he's fair. Do the homework and you'll pass no problem. HE WROTE THE BOOK, SO HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT! He's got funny stories about his personal life, so that takes the edge off the fact that you're studying Math. Unlike that Russian dude, who's hard to understand!!!
not a good teacher. he is not helpful at all. very unclear about assignments. test questions are not stated clearly and will take points off because he assumes you should know what he wants.
very great teacher, easy to understand, explains everything very well and very clear, super nice
no good.!! this guy is horrible. period
he is a great teacher. he explains clearly and in words we can understand, gives time outside of class to teach you, and though he is a bit short tempered, as long as u go to class on time, and be quiet while he is talking, you will be fine. his tests are not surprise, as long as u do the hw, get a
He offers help in class but after doing 1 or 2 problems and moves on to a new section of the chapter EVERYDAY. He'll make you meet with him in his office for further help which is inconveinent when you have a class during his office hours. Wasn't helpful. Not clear on what he wants either. Don't tak
Pretty good teacher, but the tests are what get you. His test questions are pretty unclear at times and he grades extremely hard on them. Sometimes he will emphasize topics that he claims will be on the test but ends up leaving them out. He's a good and bad teacher.
Great teacher. very clear and organized. I really enjoyed this class. I would reccommend him over any other math teacher at csm. He is very concerned about his students doing well and i enjoyed his sense of humor.
For tests, it helps if you attend class regularly and pay attention when he says something is important. (he says it a lot but at least he says when topics are likely to be on the test) He moves fast but the interactive style acts as a check. (plenty of teachers just keep writing and writing)
I took the accelerated class. Nice guy and clear teacher, however this class demands at least four hours of work a day. The homework is the most important thing in terms of helping you learn, and theres a lot. I found that I understood the basic concepts, yet the tests were overwhelming.
Explains concepts very well, and asks questions to verify that the class is with him. Tests are moderately hard - if you understand the homework problems you will do very well. He does not put random stuff on tests - problems are all stuff we've seen. I would highly recommend.
pretty nice guy. grades fair. pretty helpful. explains topic pretty well. very good professor in general
Good teaching skills and explains things clearly. His tests are hard, and he is really stick. He has no compassion, no emotions, if you try to beg him to get a C, NO WAY. I do not like his personality at all.
His tests were freaking hard. otherwise everything is ok.
For this class, the tests were harder. The course was taught at a fairly challenging (though not overly so) level and he tried hard to avoid grade inflation. His lectures were good, and he is available in his office for help. Sometimes the tests had tricky questions that were not covered in class, but they forced students to apply the knowledge.
Be prepared to do lots of math projects where you have to find data...make your own graps and equations. This class sucked so bad. Take Mr Hom...he rocks!
hescool and understanding. class is hard though but not boring.
He screwed up some times and I felt that he was "ehh ." Assigns lots of work sometimes. Not ti89 friendly.
I took the 8wk 110/120 course. A lot of homework, Jay is a great teacher when it comes to explaining what your learning. Only take this course if you plan on working for it! This is not a free ride but he gives you the tools. His book is good but the fact that he wrote it helps him explain it better! If your determined you will pass w/ an A!
Jay is an awesome teacher. The best math teacher I have ever had. Great explanations. Makes you see the bigger picture when it comes to math. He wrote the books for the class, so the class seams to flow very well. I hate math but Jay made it fun. Overall GREAT TEACHER.
this is the greatest math teacher i have ever had. He explains things very well and has actually made ME of all ppl, like math class. He does go a little fast at some points, but easy to catch on to and he is sure to explain it all thoroughly. quiz and test every wk, hw everyday. HW IS EASY! but overall VERY GREAT TEACHER! HIGHLY recommended
He is a great teacher. MAKES MATH EASIER. you will like his class, but be ready for a lot of HW. If u study, you will easly get an A.
I Love this prof, he makes look so easy, a lot of homework but he is soo cool take him, if you don t understand math after Mr lehman you will find that math are the easiest things ever... Ask him also to sing his math songs..... HELLA GOOD TEACHER I LOVE HIM
Do homework every night.. a ton of it.. if you work or have a heavy load of classes its really hard to keep up with all of the work. If you have no life and put in the effort then you will do fine.
This was my first year in college and he is one of the best teachers i have ever had. He is extremely thorough and will help you if you need it. there's alot of homework but its good preparation for the upcoming tests and quizzes. He drops your lowest test and quiz's too. I recommend him! i rate him a 10.
Is very conceptual instead of practical. Students are required to pay to do their homework online and must complete lengthy assignments each night which have little or no connection to what has been taught in class. Tests are a direct reflection of his lectures which involve lengthy conceptual information typically inaccessible to students. Tries.
I took math 120 as a half semester course, and even at the accelerated rate he made sure everyone understood the concepts and would review them if anyone needed help. He uses my math lab, which does cost money and you do need computer access but it was very beneficial. Great teacher!
Would not take him again.
never been so stressed about passing a class in my life until him
too much stress, too much homework, not enough examples and too much talking! it so boring!really annoying, i feel lost when he teaches.
He's really nice and very helpful. He explains everything well. If you pay attention and do your homework you'll do fine on the tests. good teacher
I recommend this teacher to everyone! He is GREAT!I had him for Math 110 and 120 I took both classes in one semester. Which was completely worth it. If you don't understand math he will do whatever it takes to help you.He is super sweet and loves to teach. I would say 85% of his students pass his class with a B grade or higher. The BEST ever!
THE MOST AMAZING TEACHER I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!HE IS SO PATIENT AND CAN TEACH ANYONE HOW TO DO MATH.IF IT WASN'T FOR HIM I WOULD PROBABLY BE STUCK IN ALGEBRA STILL.BEFORE I TOOK HIS CLASS I WAS TAKING arithmetic and I learn more in his class then in my entire 12 years of grade school math. You do have to work for your grade but it will me worth it
GREATEST TEACHER EVER! HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND UNDERSTAND DOES REQUIRE HOMEWORK BUT IS WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU IF YOU NEED TO TURN IN HOMEWORK LATE. I PROMISE THAT YOU WILL NOT LEAVE HIS CLASS WITHOUT HAVING A BETTER UNDERSTANDING IN MATH. HELLA GOOD TEACH TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher. He explains things very clearly and his well-organized. He's also a funny guy, which makes the class all the more interesting. If you do all the homework and pay attention in class, you'll get a good grade.
He's a great teacher! He explains every thoroughly and answer any questions you have. I understood everything he was teaching. There's homework every class meeting, each week alternates with a quiz or test, but they are all extremely easy. He's the teacher to take if he's available for whatever math class you need to take.
Mr. Lehmann is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He explains topics as clear as possible and gives very clear and organized notes. The tests are difficult but as long as you pay attention and do the assignments you should do well. He is very approachable and his class is a pleasant place to be in:)
The tests questions come from the textbook (unassigned homework problems). Recommend going to every class.
More interested in his book and band this semester. Gets frustrated when explaining problems to students and will not elaborate on problems in class when asked. Another 'go to the math lab' pass the buck teacher. Shed load of homework to be done and very little credit offered for it. This semester Jay really changed his priorities.
Had him for 251 and 252, good teacher. I already took calculus in high school so I knew everything, but still a good teacher! Hw basically everyday, but doable. He drops 1 test and 1 quiz at the end so there's a plus. From what I hear, he's better than most math professors at this school, so take his class!
Great teacher. he knows how to teach his students and is willing to help anyone in the class. :)
GREAT TEACHER. Had difficulty in Math 251 so understandably I was hesitant to take this class. However, he is very clear, helpful, and understanding. Highly recommend taking him!
Loved Jay's class though it was tough for me. His tests are basic and easy compared to Mr. Davis. Sometimes he gets confused in class lectures but still gets the point across. He is very nice and approachable and willing to give extra help. Doesn't seem to care if you are late. Doesn't give a lot of HW. I would recommend him.
By far the best teacher I have ever had. I struggle with math horribly, but was able to pass this class. As long as you do the HW each night, you WILL pass the class. The HW never takes more than a half hour to 45 minutes. He is great at explaining the material and making it understandable. He also trys to keep it fun.
Best math teacher I've ever had. He's really helpful and sometimes, especially for someone who hates math, the work might seem like it's a lot, but you really do learn in his class.
Took him last semester, he is an awesome teacher, he can be entertaining and he doesnt really check homework, as long as you completed all of the problems with effort he will give you full credit. The tests are relatively easy. As long as you practice and do all of the odd and even problems on the textbook before the test you should be fine.
Great prof. He explains each topics clearly. Homework grade on effort as long as you complete all/most problems, you will get full score. Tests and quizzes are not too hard.
Unless you take this professor for maths before you take another he will just not go over any stuff the other professor thought. He tends to start a new chapter without completing the other. Quiz and text every week and they can be tough. He is really into maths and even when bell goes he still has you sitting and taking notes!!
I completely loved Lehmann. He had a way of talking to us like we were 5 years old, but instead of it feeling condescending, it just made everything crazy easy to understand. In addition to doing all kinds of helpful examples, he also made terrible jokes all the time. The atmosphere made calculus fun and really interesting!
He is confusing and ask you to write essay for his class!! I hate it !! how wants write an essay for a math class?? come on !!
This is the all time best math teacher i have ever had. i have a learning disability and this teacher was so patient with me when i did not understand the material. I am so thankful that i took this teacher. He was very clear about his lessons and all of the homework had to do with the lessons. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND TAKING THIS TEACHER!
Helpful and fair. Enjoyed his class. Participate as much as you can even if you are wrong, he will notice that you are trying. Do all the homework and any extra assignments or extra credit.
If you're taking his math 110 online,be careful! just because you have an overall grade A or B from my math lab doesn't mean youre truly his class. after midterms double check if you're passing or not. He won't warn you if you're failing -____-
Being in his class was one of the best thing happened in my first semester at CSM! Don't miss being in his.
One of the best math teachers i have ever took. If you do your homework and study well for the tests, you'll do fine.
Simply put, this guy's a legend. It's been a long time since I had a teacher for math who was anywhere as great as Prof Lehmann. If you're interested in learning the subject and building a strong foundation for moving forward in the math calc series this is the guy to go with. Genuinely, a nice guy who will go out of his way to ensure you suceed.
His class is fun but sometimes his quizzes are test are a bit hard. OVerall a hard teacher
Not a great teacher overall.
Best math teacher I've ever had so far! He makes math easier to understand. If he sees that the class struggles with a certain topic, he takes time to try to explain stuff in an easier, more simple way. Gives review that is pretty similar to the upcoming test/exam. I highly recommend him!
Professor Lehmann is an awesome guy. He's patient & willing to spend time to make sure you understand the lectures. Attendance is mandatory to pass. There are 12 quizzes, 5 tests, & a Final. A homework assignment sheet with all problems for the entire course is handed out in the first week. Class is straight forward, no surprises. Recommended!
His class is alright. You learn something new every single day. One day review right before test days. Homework is assigned everyday. He tries to be funny. Recommend if you're okay - strong at math. He doesn't really explain, he just shows you how to do a problem and expects you to know how to do it next. I wouldn't really take the class again.
His lecture and notes are very clear, and he is very patient that he will make sure everyone understand the subjects. Finish the homework so that quizzes and tests would be just piece of cake.
Very engaging teacher, clear notes and no surprises on tests/quizzes. Straightforward and overall a great math teacher. I would highly recommend
Yes, in a community college there are much better teachers than him, but once you transfer and try the second or third calc things become a nightmare and that's when you should say "I wish Prof. Lehmann could simplify this for me in a song" or "I miss those review sessions before exams" or the fact that you get used to his types of questions. MIssU
stats is a hard class in general, but prof. lehmann makes it as easy as possible. homework assigned everyday online, and 10 quizzes but do them and you should do fine on the 5 tests! i honestly loved his class and thought he was a great math teacher. very clear examples too that match exactly what the homework is. didn't really need the textbook
Quiz every week. But if you attend classes, it won't be a problem. Expect homework everyday. Professor Lehmann will check your work during the quiz. He is a very funny teacher. If you take his class, you will fall in love with math and get a easy A in calculus.
For Stats he was AMAZING! he made everything simple and easy! For trig, he was still a great teacher. He always encouraged to never be afraid to ask questions. Tests are pretty tough and they are only 1 page front to back. He does a lot of in class group work. HW and Quizzes are online. Overall, he is not an easy teacher, but he made math fun.
I took Professor Lehmann for pathway to statistics, he was great. He's very clear and is really helpful. He does a ton of examples to make it clear to understand what's going on. Show up to class to stay up to date since the classes move pretty fast. Overall a great teacher!
Jay is a great transition to the latter calculus classes and his exuberant energy is what propels the class to persevere through the course. Many math teachers don't delve deep into logic and theory as he does which helps many students understand topics more easily. He is not easy, but will lead the way through the most difficult material.
Class is everyday, and you really need to go to all the classes. Tests and quizzes every week, and the questions are drawn pretty much straight from the homework.
Professor Lehmann is the probably the best math teacher I've ever had. He gives very clear lectures and is very approachable if you have any concerns.
He's extremely organized. easy to understand, and open to questions 100% of the time. He makes series Integration look easy. but beware the class is still hard...
Honestly the best math teacher I had, he's so patience and will repeat his explanation until students get it. He gives really helpful examples during his lecture and even for someone that hates math I feel like I learned a lot. Make sure to attend class daily and do all the work he really makes you work for it!
I've took Calc 1 with Jay, and since having him as a teacher I've had 4 other math teachers at his school. Jay was great. A conscientious teacher. His lectures were well laid out and not rushed. He'd pause for a bit after asking the class questions. Interested in students understanding the material.
Lehmann is a patient professor who is willing to delve as deep as any student wishes to go into the logic behind many mathematical principals. He uses homework from the textbook and doesn't assign an exorbitant amount but your responsibility to do more if you need it. Very clear grading criteria and has occasional extra credit on tests. Great Class
Great professor for a tough subject! Attendance is important because of the difficulty in understanding course material. Tests are based on lecture and homework, do both and you will pass with a C or higher. Asking for help and studying are NECESSARY, he will not pass you if cannot prove you can solve medium difficulty equations. He helps everyone!
if your not a math person then don't take his class even though majority of the math teachers at csm have accents jay is easy to understand but get ready to actually study hard and put time on your hw since his test are based on the class progress
Jay is the best math teacher I have had at CSM, he is funny and outgoing ( a rare skill in the math world). Show up to lecture everyday and do your homework and you will pass. His class layout is very clear and specific there is a quiz every Friday and after 2 to 3 quizzes there is a test. Very little homework over the weekend
Great Professor. He's funny and doesn't make math a total pain. Pay attention to homework problem as similar problems will show up on the weekly quiz. The tests aren't as difficult if you're attentive in class. Sometimes he's nice enough to let Friday quizzes be take-home quizzes. Going to miss him as a professor :)
Jay breaks down the semester very clearly so I always knew what to expect. Theres hw nearly every night, he takes 1-3 days to cover each section, quizzes every Friday, offers office help daily, & wants to see everyone succeed. I will miss him, hes the most respectful & thorough teacher Ive ever had. Really made me enjoy the class/subject!
Such a nice guy. Very understanding, and he has a great personality. He loves group work and is always down to help you outside of class. I recommend him!
Math 252 with Lehmann was pretty hard, but that's largely because Calc 2 is a difficult subject in and of itself. He's very calm, no-nonsense, and you know what's expected of you. Show up to class everyday, if you skip class you'll easily fall behind in lectures. Attendance is a must. Quizzes and tests aren't easy, yet are also very reasonable.
Great teacher! In class, he teach his methods (which is easier to digest) of approaching the problems, and also assign homework which allow you to learn the textbook methods, each method compliments the other. He assign students to work in group on practice problems which is the first I have seen in math teachers and it works for me.
Prof. Lehman's way of teaching, in my opinion is intuitive and effective. Instead of everyone facing him, he makes us into groups of 4, and made us do problems in teams. He really makes you practice math by the way he designed his homework. 100% prop to the MAN.
Phenomenal teacher, he genuinely cares about hes students and you can see it in the way he directs his class. He genuinely wants his students to do well and succeed. Precalculus fast track is the usual work load, but this teacher makes learning it easy.
Hands down the best math professor I have ever had. The first person to ever get me to actually UNDERSTAND math. He's super cool and kind, just wants everybody to succeed & do their best. I cannot recommend him enough.
Professor Lehmann is SO organized and structured, which is such a nice quality to have in a teacher! I took this class in person and during the transition to Zoom. Encourages students to ask questions because he really cares about his students. Very professional, approachable, and overall a nice guy. Would definitely recommend!!
Prof Lehmann is the best, nicest math teachers I've ever had. He genuinely cares about you learning the content rather than just lecturing to lecture. But you have to stay on top of the content, because we were doing a section a day and will be hard to catch up if you fall behind (STUDY). Classmates, TA's, and the prof are always there to help.
Prof. Lehmann clearly outlines his expectations for students and the class from the start. Lessons are fairly fast-paced, so be on top of the lectures and homework. Very open to questions, advocates discussion among breakout rooms, responds quickly, helpful all around. Overall, a really nice prof who genuinely cares about his students and teaching.
Lehmann is a great professor. He truly knows his stuff and is a nice guy. Some things to note: 1. A good 2-4 hours of homework every week 2. You cannot cheat in this class (he does not deserve it either way) 3. Involves trig and geometry (which, if you're like me, has been long forgotten). Work hard and you'll do well, he's rooting for you.
Jay Lehmann is incredible. More than 20 years after taking his class, I still refer back to the vending machine analogy. He transformed fear into understanding + assimilation. Elementary algebra isn't hard per se. For me math strikes fear; connecting algebra to experience, a tub emptying, RSIs exponentially rising, etc. Take Jay's class; best ever!
He is a wonderful person, who tries his hardest to really explain the calculus concepts. There is a quiz every week and exams are worth 55% of grade. So even if you complete hw and do well on quizzes, your grade DEPENDS on the exams. This class is incredibly hard, even with his teachings. He's open to questions though and is generally very sweet.
I would definitely recommend Professor Lehmann. I have taken 2 semesters of calculus with him, and I really like his teaching style. He breaks down the concepts into digestible material. He gives quizzes every Friday. I liked that style of testing because it gives you weekly checkpoints to make sure you understand the material covered so far.
Professor Lehmann is a great teacher. He is quick in responding to emails, gives thorough explanations in class, and is usually available for office hours which really helps. This class goes through material pretty quickly so try not to fall behind. I would really recommend him!
Professor Lehmann is a real gem in the math department. At times, he goes a bit fast but it's very easy to reach him outside of class for office hours. There are 10 quizzes (once a week) and 5 tests. I liked the quizzes because it's like a little checkpoint at the end of the week to make sure you know what's going on in the class. 10/10 recommend.
