HES HOT AND COOL AS HELL

Great teacher!! Very nice and funny, not to mention very, very cute!!! We took lots of notes, but his tests were everything that we convered in class. I would totally take another class with him...he is hot.
What a nice teacher! He is really funny, and genuinely cares about his students. He makes time outside of class to meet with them, and is so helpful. I really recomend this teacher! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
he's awsome! one of the best teachers eva! he gives alota notes but take the notes and dont buy the book! very nice! TAKE HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Awesome teacher!!! A lot of note-taking but makes the class fun. Current events discussed on Fridays, takes attendance, 3exams. He's funny, fair grader, his notes are interesting. NuFF said!
Great!!! Fun guy, plays jazz before class to loosen you up. Really knows his stuff!
Best history teacher - knows and loves what he is teaching. Watch and read the news, take notes and you'll do fine.
Awesome prof! Take notes, go to class, and you can get a good grade. Very helpful, nice, good conversation about current events. Recommended!
Dr. Jay rocks. This class has made me interested in History. It is funny to watch the girls oogle at him, as he is a cute little guy. I'd take any class Dr. Nelson offered. You will learn a lot in here. Just go to class. Dr. J rocks!

This teacher is awesome he made me like history a lot more. Lots of notes though but it does help on the test and showed a movie as well. Best history teacher I know so far, way cool and he is extremely helpful in anything you need. IF YOU CAN TAKE HIM!!!
Very Nice Teacher
He is such a nice guy, makes history interesting. Watch some movies and takes lots of notes, but they help on the tests. He is very laied back and you can tell that he wants his students to enjoy the class as much as possible! If u cant get into this class take it... itll be worth your time! best History teach ive found!
he gives you 90% of the answers to the tests on his review day. if u want an A, do the reading. 5pg paper due at end of 1/4. His lectures are fast & furious but he lets u out of class early. great class, solid prof, really relates to students. u dont need the minutemen book.
Best teacher i've had at depaul. He's really funny and an easy grader. My friend couldn't stop talking about how she wanted to marry him!
One word-****ing amazing! I LOVE him! He was totally chill, funny, and helpful. He has SO much personality, you just can't help but fall in love with him. He's a sweetheart, and he has a great sense of humor! Watch the news and come to class prepared to talk about current events-he loves you if you participate! Such a cutie! Pretty easy too ;)
Awesome professor. I was impressed at both his knowledge and neutrality with a variety of topics. If you need/want to take a history class, I highly recommend him.
He tells you like it is. He is very clear in what he wants and expects from his students. He tells you what you need to know for the tests and even has a review to make sure you have the notes. If you don't have a good record for going to class, don't take him. You have to be there to get the notes. He is very fun and very knowledgeable. Take him.
This is pretty much the best professor at DePaul. His class is so straightforward and interesting. He is willing to help you with anything. The tests are a little hard, but if you study you can do B level. Take this professor! He's AMAZING!!!
HOT HOT HOT! what a stud. oh yea, and a good teacher too.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Wants to see every student succeed so he will meet with you wherever you want at any time that fits you best. Class was great and his lectures kept the class interesting. If you have to take HST282 make sure you get this guy. Tests are only difficult if you miss class and miss the review day. TAKE HIM!
Do not dare miss a class, and make sure you pretty much jot down everything he says. Seriously. Make sure you have your notes studied by heart in order for you to do well. That being said, awesome. Best history professor so far, and he makes his point across while being funny. If you can't handle waking up early though, reconsider it.
He is the best professor I had so far! Keeps lectures interesting. Wants the whole class to do well. Make sure if you have a question about anything on his grading on your test ask it. Very helpful. Also, looks like House!
oh my gosh. he is so hot. he is a wonderful prof and he keeps the class verrrrry interesting. take him!
Best teacher ever! And I don't even like history!
Interesting class itself, but this guy is really good at teaching and explaining. Very straightforward, nice, and cracks jokes about the material all the time. He wants everyone to get a good grade, plus he gets the point across no problem. An all around great professor.
Love his class, he is a great teacher.
i agree hes very very hot!! but overall, hes an awsome teacher SO funny...really ur gonna be cracking up, and of course very helpful. he wants u to do good so he helps u make that happen. ALWAYS reveiws b4 tests and the paper is pretty simple and easy as long as u read wut he gives u
I agree with the other comments that the class is entertaining but found it to be really difficult. Every class I felt like I was writing everything he said down because he expects alot on his tests. No textbooks just his notes so dont ever miss class. Three tests one paper. Paper was very easy.
Professor Nelson is a great guy. Very entertaining and the amount of work is not too bad. He looks like Dr. House from the television show. Best History teacher I have ever had.
He's a really good teacher. His tests are hard, so you really need to study. Not a ton of reading. And hes really hot...
I took him twice-two different classes because I enjoyed him so much. It is all lecture so attendance is crucial, but I promise not painful. Yes he's good looking, but very witty and insightful. He stays objective, gives history a new light, and so so helpful. One of the nicest and more approachable professors at depaul. A must if you love history.
Professor nelson is very good at what he does. One day a week class is tough, dont miss class. Keep good notes, visit often during office hours. test are not easy, due to the amount of information. 3 tests on class lectures and 3 books. Also additional book and book report.
Great teacher! He really enjoys what he teaches. No textbook, but two required books that were interesting reads. Don't miss a class, because he talks fast and gives us so much info in just one class. Tests are straightforward. Just make sure you read the books assigned and take good notes!
This guy is a horrible teacher and would never recommend him. His tests are deplorable, which produced a class average of a "D''. If that is the sort of grade you want, then I would take this class, you'll most likely learn something even though it is a high school level. He is also very rude, he will not let you speak at times.
I need 4 words to best describe this man-one of a kind!He is so very helpful, funny and handsome. Very fair grader, answers emails quickly, will always make you smile. He used to make my day. Has the most hilarious laughter ever! Too bad he won?t be teaching anymore and he is married.
I really loved his teaching style. There is a gargantuan amount of notes, so if you're an A student, be prepared to deal with a B in this course because the tests can be somewhat tricky. Otherwise, he's one of the best professors at DePaul. I love that he opens each class with a 15 minute discussion on current events. He's pretty witty as well.
Great teacher and knows alot about history. One day a week he speaks about current events for about 15 mins. The whole class is note taking so id suggest bringing your laptop or a recorder. I STRONGLY SUGGEST SEEING HIM IN HIS OFFICE TO ASK ON HOW TO STUDY FOR THE CLASS AND WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE TEST. great teacher and a good guy.
its a lecture class so write down everything he say or bring your computer. He so helpful, if you got to his office and ask what to expect on the test he will give you about 90-95 percent of the test. Also go to his class and ask how you should study for his class. I got a B because i bombed test then went to office hours and got A's on the rest.
He is a great professor. His entire class is a lecture so bring your laptop and expect to be typing the entire time. With that said, his lectures are VERY interesting and easy to follow. His tests are straight from his lectures and if you listen, you'll do well. Awesome guy.
A lot of reading from different historical books was necessary - 4 books total. However, his lectures are very interesting and he's a cool guy.
Jay Nelson is on of the best teachers you can get. His lectures will get you interested in history, and he's often available if you need help with anything. This is a mostly lecture based class, but you just have to show up and jot some things down. he also reviews before so no confusion. He sometimes talks kinda fast but that's my only complaint
Its nice to see prof that want to actually teach, and care about the students knowledge. Its was a pleasure to be in this class. I highly recommend.Go to class take good notes you will do well! its a fun class, enjoy it there are not that many classes like that. My advice do the first paper only 5 pages u will understand once u get in the class.
Had him for HST 111. One of my best professors so far. Extremely funny and the lectures make learning easy and fun. I would absolutely take any class he taught.
Easy to comprehend what is taught however get ready to take a ton of notes. Class is not very difficult however the tests are graded with absolute vengeance and what he expects on them is absolutely unclear. If the class average falls into the D range their is obviously a problem. Class is enjoyable however stay clear if you like good grades.
He was very clear with what he expected from the three exams, which made them easier, but they were still difficult. There was only one paper that was easy to write if you attend class. His lectures are great!
He is a great lecturer
He's really interesting! You should record the lectures because he talks fast when he gets super into it. The tests are essay so make sure you know the little details. He gives really good test review though, he'll tell you exactly what's on the test.
There are 3 tests worth 25% of your grade each, a short paper, and participation. His lectures are interesting, but very long. He is a great professor who is always willing to help!
Professor Nelson is hands down one of the best history professors I've had the fortune of enrolling into. His approach to history is one that is light and fun which makes the material just that much more digestible. Furthermore, his class was consisted of 3 exams and a paper, what more could you want as a college student? Take him.
His lectures are very long, but he's really passionate about what he teaches so they were always really interesting. There was no textbook, just three short books and then an extra book you pick for a book report. Three exams based on the lectures and they are essay questions. It's a tough class to do well in if you miss a day and don't take notes
Excellent professor when it comes to teaching. He is a great teacher and you'll learn a lot. One paper which is not difficult, but three tests which are graded much too hard for a 100 level class. If you care about your grade I would steer clear. You will learn a lot, but likely at the expense of a good grade.
Jay is a great professor. However, I seriously struggled in this class due to the fact that his classes are STRICTLY lecture with no visual aid whatsoever. He talks very fast which makes it difficult to process the information and I had no idea what to study for the test. If you are a visual learner STAY AWAY or else you will FAIL.
Professor Nelson is the best teacher. He is very clear about what he wants and is very helpful. I'm taking him for HST 181 also. Highly recommend!
Jay was amazing! His class is somewhat challenging because there are no textbooks, lecture slides, or study guides. He is very clear on his expectations and the material covered, but you have to go to class and take thorough notes in order to succeed. Grade is comprised of 3 exams and a paper, and bring your laptop to take notes. Take this class!
Professor Nelson was awesome. The material for this class was easy but be ready to take notes in class. He works super fast just to cover as much as possible. This teaching style might not be for everyone but I think he does a great job. Some of the material is not always stimulating so he does his best.
He's a nice guy but his lectures are so fast. They're only oral and I can barely type fast so I record his voice but then get too lazy to listen back to many hours of his voice. His tests were hard to me because of this. He'll give you what is on the test but will leave some parts out and the tests are basically on what he says exactly.
Great professor with lots of energy. Lectures consist of him speaking fast, 3 tests, a paper and your participation. Take him but record all the lectures!
This has, without a doubt, been my favorite professor at DePaul. Dr. Nelson was absolutely PHENOMENAL in his instruction of HST 182 (US History--1800 to 1900). Although I used to really dislike history because I was never that great at it, I am actually considering a history minor after taking his class. Even as a math major, this guy is GREAT.
Gifted lecturer. Class was always interesting with a good balance between fun and challenging.
I really like this class and the professor. He does not have a textbook so in order to pass the class you need to show up and take good notes. That is a hit or a miss with people but I think it works for a history class. He does have a strict phone policy but you are there to learn from him so I can understand why he does not want phones out.
You're graded on 3 Tests and a Paper. The tests were graded pretty harshly and he would take off small points for each question that would add up. In my case I did worse than I thought on every test. Tests also included book questions from assigned chapters that were horrible to read. I studied the most for the class out of any other. Overall okay
The tests in this class were all short answer/essay questions, and he graded pretty tough on them. Then, there was a paper on a book report that wasn't too bad if you actually read the book from the time period of the class. Honestly, the lectures were boring. He was a good guy and knows his stuff but it was just a lot of memorization.
Prof. Nelson is an incredible teacher. You will leave every class amazed with a full brain of knowledge. I genuinely enjoyed this class. You have to be in class to take notes! Make sure to attend review dates, he will go over exactly what is going to be on the exam.
I loved everything about Prof. Nelson's class. Attendance and note-taking is mandatory, but it's so worth it. Prof. Nelson is funny, engaging, passionate, and knowledgeable. I never expected to learn so much about Native American life. Because of him I changed my major to history and have never been more excited. Take him.
Awesome class and prof. Enjoyable lectures and challenging but fair class. I would take Jay's classes again and highly recommend him.
He is awesome. It's completely lecture based and your entire grade is based off the 3 tests he gives and 1 paper you have to do. He doesn't use powerpoint so you have to take notes as he talks. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE NOTES. The class before the tests he reviews and says exactly what's going to be on it. Be there and you can't possibly do bad.
Awesome professor, super knowledgeable and hilarious! He makes history fun, and the lectures (while an hour and a half) never feel too long. Tests are based completely on lectures so TAKE NOTES and do not miss class unless you can get the notes you missed from someone else. Definitely take this class though!
HIS 113 World history was a great class! Jay is a great guy who definitely knows a lot about history. Class consists of 3 tests (3rd test counts as your final), and 1 4-5 page paper. ALL tests are written and consist of about 8 qustions with 1 question being worth 25% of the test grade. NO powerpoints just spoken lecture. SO TAKE NOTES. DONT SKIP.
Hands down my favorite professor at DePaul. He is so enthusiastic, passionate, and makes history interesting to learn about. He divides the class into three sections - so three tests. Told us what chapters to read for the test, you HAVE to be there to take notes (mine were like 8-10 pages typed each class) and is a fair test maker and grader.
World History class - a lot of fun and quite a bit of studying. Great lectures, decent books. Would recommend him highly.
TAKE NOTES! you are going to need them. The whole lecture he talks and you really need to take notes in order to study and pass. The material was not hard at all, he was very helpful in going over until you got it and he is hilarious! You have the option to write either 2 small 3 page papers or 1 big one of 6 pages. He gives out 3 books to choose.
Prof. Nelson is by far the best professor I have had in a while. You can tell he enjoys history and is extremely knowledgeable. He is a bit lecture heavy but he makes it very interesting so its not as bad. He tells you exactly he wants on tests/papers; so no surprises. He also gave an extra credit opportunity. 10/10 I recommend him to everyone.
This guy is the worst dude ever. I had a 4.0 in my college career and he gave me my first C. I work so hard and this teacher clearly doesn't care about his students. He may also be the most mind-numbingly boring teacher ever. He lectures the entire class and talks way too fast for anybody to take notes. Literally have to record him. Worst class.
I took Prof Nelson twice and each class was similar, three exams and one paper. There is a review prior to each exam so if you don't do well in this class its on you, I would call it an 'easy B.' He never takes attendance but you can't miss class, your notes are crucial to the exams. His lectures are amazing anyway and he's hilarious. Take him.
Jay Nelson made 19th Century History a fun, interesting, and highly informative class. There is a lot of reading, but it pays off compared to other professors for this class.
Jay Nelson has been my favorite teacher at DePaul. Lectures are SO important because your notes are your study guide for tests! Tells you exactly what you need to know and makes class very enjoyable. Also super helpful if you need help outside of class. Hilarious and very sweet man, definitely want to take him again!
LOVED this class. I thought I was going to have a hard time with history but boy was I wrong. He is super smart! He's also super funny during lecture, which by the way, should not miss, he just lectures and has students take notes, no power points. Also bring in news once a week for a fun class discussion. PARTICIPATION REQUIRED
This guy really is the worst teacher Ive ever had. Im SHOCKED people like this guy. You need to be at every class and listen to every little word he says. If you miss one thing, its probably on the test. Cant find this guy outside of class either. Doesnt respond to emails and is the worst professor Ive ever had in my years of colllege.
One of my favorite Profs ever at DePaul. Jay is super cool and fun. Review sessions allow you to catch up if you missed anything, but you won't want to miss most of the lectures. Three books and a writing assignment. Take his class and you'll be inspired to know more about the world.
Professor Nelson is a robot. His intelligence and compassion levels have been set at 11. He has much to teach us. We have much to learn from him. Long live our robot overlords.
I learned from this class, however, it was very difficult and was not appropriate for a 100 level class. The tests were based solely on the notes you tried to quickly write down during the lecture, with no powerpoint just him speaking. So if you missed class or fell behind writing notes it was hard to pass the test. You will need to study a lot.
Professor Nelson is undoubtedly one of the best professors Ive had at DePaul. I always had a disliking for history because of how boring my teachers would teach but with Nelson, its as if you want to go to class each and everyday. Everytime I left his class I felt like I knew more about history than I ever did. I highly recommended taking him.
My absolute favorite history professor at DePaul. I took his 1900-present class and it was by all means worth it. Professor Nelson is super knowledgeable and makes the stuff really interesting even if you don't like history normally. Lecture heavy class though. Just three tests and one paper.
Great instructor, especially online. I learned so much. 1 paper, 3 or 2 tests. Great History course
Best on line class I've taken. I am going to wait and take him again in the classroom it should be fun. 3 books, 3 exams, 1 paper. He give live lectures and records them as well so you have options.
Expectations are standard. Take good notes, pay attention, and you'll do fine. He makes the material engaging and seems to enjoy the work. A class act.
Jay Nelson has been my favorite professor of all my 4 years at DePaul, and if you have the chance to take any of his classes you really should (they're all good). He's great at lecturing and all you have to do is listen and take notes. The few bad reviews sound like they were from people who just didn't show up or pay attention. He's fantastic
Awesome professor, extremely fair and respectful. Loves to lecture but in a fun and interesting way
Seriously, if you come to class and take notes you're almost guaranteed an A on every test. He does talk fast, so be prepared to type for 1.5 hours straight, but he's funny and makes the lectures fun.
Not easy but worth taking. The lectures are awesome which is key because there is a ton of lecturing. Two papers is one too many for a 100-level class. Nelson is a great guy and probably my new favorite professor at DePaul. I left with a head full of history.
Lectures are super important with lots of information, you will be typing or writing down notes.. a lot of them. As long as you are there with notes you will easily pass this class
Going to his class felt less like a tedious lecture and more like hanging out with some friends and discussing an interesting topic. As someone with ADD who cannot read a textbook, this class was perfect. Who needs a textbook when you have an awesome professor who tells you everything you need to know in an interesting way. Essays were easy.
Love him so much. You are graded by a few tests, a few papers & 2 small assignments. You have to take good notes & study to get an A in the class but if you like history, you should have no problem enjoying the content. Not an easy A I guess but its not hard to do well if you pay attention and study. He's an amazing lecturer & cares about students
Jay is an awesome professor. He does lecture but you will enjoy as this prof. has a wicked sense of humor. He took the time to get to know every student in the first week even though he knew he was crunched for time. Has a clear grading criteria for tests. If you attend his office hours, you can review upcoming tests with him. Take his class ASAP!
Simply the best - I wish I'd found him earlier in my DePaul career. A couple of projects and short papers, with 3 exams that he has a review session for. Truly a nice guy, a great lecturer, and very funny. Take him early and often.
I would definitely recommend taking Professor Nelson for a history class! His lectures are so interesting and he is very knowledgable in the subject. I am a major history nerd and with taking this class, I learned new things I've never heard of before. I also enjoy that he does not use history textbooks and uses novels instead!
He's super hot with a great personality. I wish he wasn't married so I could marry him. Oh, and he's a good teacher too.
Great professor who's passionate, knowledgeable, and entertaining. Show up, take notes, do the readings, and the 3 exams and 2 papers won't have any information you didn't cover. He doesn't over assign work and turn around time on grading is very fast. I would 100% take one of his classes again.
Jay was a cool professor to have. He's very knowledgeable and introduced me to great readings. Participation in his class matters. He is very respectful to other's opinions and owns up to his mistakes. Down to earth guy, would take him again.
Great teacher. Honestly super easy, very note-heavy but go over your notes two days before exams and pay attention while he talks and you'll be getting an A no doubt.
the actual goat. funny, handsome, super knowledgeable and an easy grader. truly the whole package. not the easiest A, readings, 2 papers 3 tests and class participation assignments, but none of them took more than an hour and he grades super high across the board. he wants his time and effort to be respected and he will give it back. take him!
Prof. Nelson is really good guy and the class was enjoyable. But I struggled in this class. While the lectures were interesting there is just too much information. It's hard to process it and prepare for the exams. He expects a lot on the exams. The papers less so. But the exams are the bulk of my grade. And you cannot miss a class.
I would take him over and over again if I could! Words cannot describe how amazing and understanding he is. I recommend Professor Nelson because he is passionate about the subjects and cares more about creating a fun environment rather than a boring lecture. He is also super funny, knowledgeable, and a good person.
Professor Nelson's HIS111 class is engaging and informative. Attend lectures, take notes, and utilize resources like unstuck study to ace the exams. Manageable workload with fair grading.
Amazing teacher, he is funny his lectures are engaging and the environment he builds motivates you to listen. The lectures however are packed with info and he talks out the top of his mind, no slides just straight talking and pretty fast with little pauses so pay attention and write fast. There are reviews so tests can be prepared for easily
I enjoyed this class, but I am a history nerd. Heads up, you need to lock into his lectures and take really good notes to do well on the exams. His grading on the essays is light, if you hit all the points in the rubric, you will probably get an A on it.
this is literally my goat its not even funny i don't like history but i would 100000% take him over and over again he is genuinely amazing and his feedback is great
One of the best professors at DePaul. His witty lectures make it genuinely entertaining to learn history and he is such a down-to-earth guy. Class consists of 3 tests, 2 papers, 2 very easy projects, as long as you read the books to the best of your ability and take decent notes, you will be set for this class. Definitely recommend this professor!
100% best professor at DePaul take his class!! You need to definitely attend all the lectures. He explains history concepts well and is clearly well educated on history. No midterm or final, just 3 exams and 3 essays. He's so funny and always makes class entertaining. Would do anything to take another one of his classes again
Love this guy, he's my fav. In this course literally all the test content is from his lectures and only his lectures. So you do gotta go and take good notes. One of those history professors that you can enjoy listening to, and explains things in a nice concise way. This class is boarding on being fun, and I caught myself looking forward to it.
God, I love this man!! He knows his material and makes learning about U.S. history so incredibly engaging. Make sure you attend class (no lecture materials uploaded online) and take good notes. Had to write 2-3 papers and have 3 tests, no final!! TAKE HIS COURSES.
Professor Nelson is a good lecturer, but can talk fast at times, so it is best that you take notes attentively. There a no slide presentations, just straight lecture. There are three exams, 2 easy projects, and two easy papers. He's not a harsh grader at all and has a laidback and funny personality. Overall, his class was a decent experience.
For context, I am a freshman and just wanted to knock off my Historical Inquiry domain. This is the class to do it! I love history so it's a bit easier for me to be engaged & understand, but even if you're not super enthusiastic, Professor Nelson makes it interesting and easy to follow along. Just be ready to take notes and go to class.
Nelson is a good professor. You have to go to class because he does not post the slides and he may speak kind of fast at times, but he always offers a review before each exam. Always wants everyone to do good. Make sure to take good notes.
I highly suggest taking him for the history requirement!!! There are 3 exams, 2 papers, and 2 mini-projects. They're all really easy and super straightforward, so don't worry. Be prepared to take a lot of notes, as he doesn't post his slides on D2L. There are 3 books he'll want you to have, but I got most of them from Anna's archive.
