Dosent help with rough drafts at all!!!

Horrible teacher. Puts class to sleep. Very rude to students and strict on grading. Singles people out and is very narrow-minded. I got and A in the class, but had to work my but off for it. I would not take him ever again.

I failed this class because on the day of a test I was in the hospital with torn ligaments and was getting put in casts. I brought the hopistal note to him and he said he didn't care. I couldn't make the test and therefore would fail the class.

every one im my class got a 60 somethin on thw first rough draft he doesnt tell u what he wants. put qoutes in your essay's because he wont give u better than a C without them. screw J.

he is one of the worst teachers I have had, if you want to feel like a failure as soon as you walk through a door , take his class. He is the most pessimistic, negative, hateful ugly person I have every met.

My boyfriend and I have nicknamed him Darth O'Leary.

I would have to say he is the worst teacher at S.F.C.C. he is not helpful and don't ever miss his class b/c he will flip and he rip all ur papers to shreds he is evil stay away!!!!!

He's one of the worst professors I've ever had the misfortune of having. He doesn't teach you anything, he just assigns homework without clarifying instructions and grades based on his personal opinion of the student, not on the writing. No one in my class is happy with him.

It is obvious that this professor is rating himself in response to the negative reviews. Gives no clarification on instructions in class. Getting a grade in his class is like being on "Let's Make a Deal," you never know what is behind door #3.

WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. I LOVE ENGLISGH, BUT HE HAS THE ABILITY TO MAKE U HATE IT. VERY BORING! HE DOES NOT SEEM HAPPY ABOUT BEING A TEACHER, AND I HOPE HE QUITS

he does not give you the benefit of the doubt. it is his way or the highway

Mr. O'Leary is a very nice person but not so good at his job. He grades in a harsh manner and is not clear on the assignments that are given. His essays make no sense and he rambles in class instead of helping on the topic matter. I do not recommend him to anyone who wants a grade above a C.

The instructor is not very helpful and grade too harsh. I attended every class and completed most of the HW. The HW count very little. He is a funny guy, but not a great teacher.

I took his class and felt that he was rude, biased and totally useless as a professor/human being. He doesn't like to teach. He doesn't like people. He just wants you to magically know how he feels about something, write it, in ALA format and never ask questions

DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Double standards, and his office hours are used for his own personal time and not for professional time. Harsh grader and an all around lousy teacher. Wont even let you use the bathroom during class but will stand in the hallway during the first five minutes of class talking on his cell.

should not be teaching. Gives you absolutly no help and grades are very much influenced by his likeing of a person. An extremely unclear teacher, gets frustrated very very easily. Expects to say it once and never have to repeat. Also gets frustrated when asked too many questions, the limit is about 3-4 per class. would never recomend to anyone.

horrible teacher. very hard to understand. starts out class by mentioning how many students didnt pass his class, i dont recommend him to anyone. if you get him i recommend u drop asap.he should not be a teacher.i had to drop a month before the semester was over because i missed 5 classes even though i had a B in his class

This teacher made understanding the work extremly differcult. He wasn't that funny but he always came into class with lame jokes. He grades papers at last minute. He didn't give me credit for one of my assignments causing me to receive a D in this class. I contacted him about the missing grade and received no response. Terrible teacher.

Please, stay away!! Do not take his class if you do not know anything about the MLA format. He expects you to already know it. He's a harsh grader, doesn't give you a chance to revise papers, and he takes FOREVER to grade them. Do not take!!!

NO! Just no. Do not take him. He is very boring and is terrible at helping his students. If you want an A in this class, you will have to be okay with a C. I am an A student and barely got a C. Also when he grades essays he will take offense to whatever is in it and that will result in an even lower grade. PLEASE do not take him for your own good!

He is a horrible teacher!!! he makes you read long passages out of they say/ I say and you'll have write ridiculous essays. he doesnt teach you how to write an ENC 1101 paper,and his class is very boring. he also starts side conversations that has nothing to do with class. NO, NO, NO dont take his class. SAVE YOUR MONEY, AND TIME!!!!!!!

On your essays he does not give feedback it tells you what is wrong with your paper but won't show you exactly in your paper where you messed up at. Is a very slow grader. I was taken his class in the short course and after about 7-8 assignments that we already done he only graded 2, so you won't know if you need to drop or not. I DO NOT RECOMMEND

O'Leary was one of the worst teachers I have had. He grades ridiculously hard and if your put your opinion in an opinionated paper and he doesn't agree he drops your grade a bunch of points. His lectures were very boring and he is very strict. I wouldn't recommend taking him. He gives no feed back either and doesn't care if you fail.

Horribly inconsistent teacher. Makes up material to discuss on the fly and never has lesson plans. Monotonous and unprepared. Please don't pay money to have this pretend to teach you.

Coming up on the end of the semester and of the 20 assignments we've had, 6 are graded. Posts assignments minutes before they're due. He's rude and doesn't give feedback on assignments. When asked specific questions he refers you to the text book.

Okay for starters I would like to say that he has been (no joke) the WORST professor I have ever taken. He is beyond unprofessional. He won't grade assignments until the end of the semester so you don't really know how you're doing in the class. Also, he gives no feedback what so ever on essays which is pretty ridiculous. He's always late to class.

This professor was did not explain things well, refused to answer questions, and degraded students. When a student asked a question about the unclear instructions given, he spoke to the student as though they were stupid for even asking. He was very biased on how he treated students, and showed no respect to others if they had differing opinions.

Professor O'Leary was the least helpful professor I've ever had in my schooling experience. He gave unclear instructions and even worse answers to any questions students had. He was very rude to students, causing multiple students to cry.

Took him in the spring everything was going well up until the last week of class. He has a mandatory attendance policy. The few times I missed class I sent hime emails and reasons but he refused to let them slide even though I was passing the class. I had a B before taking the final and then he failed me. I'd rather be slowly executed then take him

What ever you do. Don't take this a class with this guy. Horrible at explaining things. He is arguably the worst lecturer in the world. In my opinion spending an entire week without sleep and food would be more exciting then taking this class. Please what ever you do don't take this class. Even if it means waiting a semester.

If you need someone to help explain something a second time or need any type of consideration, don't take this person.

Professor O'Leary is hands down the worst professor i've had at SF. ENC1101 is a ridiculously easy english class, but if you're not his favorite, it is very evident in your grade. I do not recommend taking this class at all.

Just don't take a class with him. He would tell you to do something a specific way and when you turn in your assignment he would say that is not correct

He spent the entire class time talking and still made no sense when he gave assignments and gave hardly any feedback himself in class until after he graded the final drafts and even then it wasn't helpful.

The worst professor at SF. Everything is graded on his schedule so you never know what your grade is. He seems pissed if you ask a question. And when I and five other students forgot to print an assignment he had us walk across campus to print it out during class. And that was after he was done demeaning us & arguing with me in front of everyone.

First time I've ever felt inclined to write a review. DO NOT take his class. He's under the impression he's motivating students to try harder by grading super hard and handing out low grades. On the second week and 60% of our class is gone.

Professor O'Leary is an extremely tough grader. His class wasn't enjoyable at all. We would have homework for every class which he would read in front of everyone. The homework counts for participation so you have to do it. I would never take his class again. He is condescending and at times rude.

If you want to sit for over an hour bored out of your mind and wonder why this man is teaching then take this class! You do the same thing every class and you dont learn anything I would never recommend this man to anyone !

Didn't put in grades. Didn't show us our grades on canvas. He talked the WHOLE class period. I didn't learn anything. I did a lot of busy work and didn't get a grade for it. I would highly recommend you don't take him. He was rude and wasn't very understanding. No cite page for your essays, you would get a FAT zero. Treated us like high schoolers.

Mr Oleary is an incredibly tough grader and he does not know how to use canvas properly. His grading is a mess and he takes a long time to give essay grades, worst professor ive ever had by far.

He does not know how to use Canvas. I have a late grade for a quiz he didn't make available until midday when it was due at 8 am. He doesn't post the grading criteria for papers until a couple days before they're due, if at all. I'm a working software engineer; I promise I've written more technical comms than this guy and I'm probably getting a B+.

He does not keep up with grading. Feedback for rough drafts was often received after the final draft was due. He never responded to emails. I had a D at the end of the semester, but ended up with a B. If you want to feel alone and stressed out, then I suggest you take this class.

I changed professors then got an A because he spent about three classes explaining that anglo-saxon American English was the only correct, and best language. It was literally just a class about how if you are a POC you will never be taken seriously if you don't know perfect anglo-saxon American English. I was failing and I'm a published author.

If you can avoid this professor definitely DO IT!!!!! Takes forever to grade. His feedback is so vague and no matter how hard you try it will never be good enough. I was never a fan of writing but this professor made me hate essay writing.

Avoid him at all costs!!!! This was the most awful experience I have ever had in a class. There are no positive points to taking ENC1102 with this professor. I was never a fan of writing essays but he made me hate essay writing. Takes forever to grade papers and his feedback is so vague you end up more confused than when you started.

I took his class online and he doesn't understand how to use canvas. For someone teaching Tech Comm he has no clue how to respond to emails on time. His due dates make no sense and is extremely tough in regards to grading. Even if you read every chapter and follow every guideline he sets you'll get a B at best.

Bad with canvas. Multiple choice on quizzes are buggy. Gives late feedback and its always refer to the book. Hes unclear in what he wants from you and hes teaching a communication class... Tough grader and you wont learn anything. Hard to game for an A, takes solid effort for a B, and a C with normal effort. Skip this teacher!

I would never suggest to anyone to take a course with Professor O'Leary. Worst experience ever.

I would not recommend taking his class. He is not helpful and he is a tough grader. He is also not a very nice.

He doesn't really tell you what he thinks you're doing wrong. His discussion posts come with 'second postings' and 'third postings' where you have to reply to at least 3 classmates, yes three, and rate their work according to his given criteria. I kid you not, just one of the replies that he asks you to do is just as long as the assignment itself.

Definitely would not recommend taking this class with this professor. Is quite rude and not very helpful. He's a tough grader and never really tells you what you did wrong. 0/10

As far as I can tell he simply does not care. His assignments are vague at best and his feedback is short and simply ineffective, while somehow still being a tough grader. His criteria makes no sense and you teach yourself completely through the textbook. Avoid.

HORRIBLE!!! Do not take this professor! He gave me an F for assignments that were tuned in before the due time.. and his reply was assignment was turned in 11 days late. I have proof showing my assignments were on time and he refuses to respond to my emails.

Man is lazy as hell. I could not log into an assignment so I took a screenshot and sent it to him saying I needed help. He never responded. It kept going for 2 weeks. I kept asking him about help finding the class in person and still, nothing. Finally when he did respond he wants to snap at me like I did something wrong.

Unfair grader, insensitive. Said the harder he is on us the more we learn. Not true. Group projects bring your grade down because no matter what you do personally if your group waits until the last minute to respond you are penalized. Avoid this teacher at all costs.

He did not know how to use the online format. He grades hard and the grading system is "E- Excellent" "S- Satisfactory" and "N- Needs Work" which is a terrible system. He was unwilling to help me and told me I needed to follow directions, even though I was. He wanted all assignments to be done perfectly. He only taught by the book. Avoid him.

He's just so bad. I can't even explain it.

We only had 4 assignments for the class. He goes over student's works on the board in front of the whole class, and and will tell you if he doesn't like your work in front of everyone. He complained about how students are late to class, and and was 15 mins late the next day. A student forgot the format to something and he asked if she had amnesia.

I could write an entire book on why he is a big no. He's boring, mean, can't figure out technology. He spends most of class time going on political rants and complaining about the way people dress or act. The textbook is terrible and the essays he assigns us to read are written poorly. I cannot emphasize enough: do not take one of his classes!

There is so much I want to say, but I simply cannot fit all of my complaints. Do not take this professor. You will learn nothing, you will have to teach yourself, and you will be yelled at and disrespected in class. He also will stare at you multiple times while he's on a tangent about politics and it is incredibly uncomfortable.

currently in the first week of his class and I did my hw handwritten. i explained to him that I couldn't afford to keep paying for printing and explained to him my financial situation. he brushed me aside and kept doubting me even going as far as to mock my situation. he turned out his pockets and handed me 45 cents and said "look you're all set."

if you ask him a question he either gets all defensive or says refer to the textbook. (dude definitely sleeps with that book) his insensitiveness and lack of accommodation or willingness to work something out with you gives you all the red flags to run. taking him in a 6 week program with 110 minute classes (1 hr 50mins) is death.

he bores you out with long political or demeaning monologues. he also grades your hw on the projector in front of the class and if he doesn't like the topic he will chew you out if front of the class.

Definitely do not recommend! Will spend half the class time talking about politics and how much he dislikes republicans. Singles out students by grading work openly on the board in class and calls you out in front of everyone. In theory not a hard class but the way he grades is strange and he contradicts himself a lot.

Grumpy old man who grades way to harsh and barley lectures, I got B's on most of my papers. Spends majority of class talking politics, can be rude to students he doesn't favor. Just take someone else and put in the work with them.

I thought this class would be easy. However, I was completely wrong. He is very rude to his students, and does not like to help when questions are being asked. Would give a lot of attitude. I went to his office hours to ask questions on how to improve my essay, literally told me "just add good stuff" and "i dont have time to read all of this".

I honestly don't even have words for this professor. He grades way too strict, barely lectures, he wastes time for an hour and 30 minutes just talking about random stuff instead of teaching. VERY contradictory. Grumpy, and WILL call you out for anything and everything. Left several things out of syllabus. Not accommodating unless he likes you!

I learned nothing in this class. Comments are made that are rude and not detailed. Things are never explicitly said. Assignments are rarely posted on Canvas he never grades either. I have spent $300 on a class that is garbage. He gives so many personal and biased stories that it's ridiculous. This is genuinely the worst class I've taken.
